The Reinforcement of Racial Hierarchies in Morrison s The...
Race and racial hierarchies are reinforced through the proliferation of a predominant, societal, white
aesthetic and through the perceptions associated with physical characteristics. In The Bluest Eye,
Toni Morrison first illustrates the reinforcement of racial hierarchies through the proliferation of a
predominant, societal white aesthetic by recounting passages from the Dick and Janebooks, a
standardization of family life. Next, The Black Arts Movementby Larry Nealdemonstrates the
reinforcement of racial hierarchies through the proliferation of a white aesthetic by discussing how
Black culture, including Black art, is in danger if the white aesthetic is accepted by Black artists.

These books, with their simplistic two and three word sentences, were widely used to teach all
children how to read and suggested that the lifestyle of Dick and Jane was typical and standard.
But, the Dick and Jane lifestyle was certainly not the typical lifestyle for Claudia, Pecola or
either of their families. So, that lifestyle was presumed to be the typical white lifestyle.
Furthermore, the lifestyle of Dick and Jane was obviously viewed as superior to a sad, broken,
difficult family life, similar to what Claudia and Pecola were accustomed, so white lifestyles in
general were viewed as superior. Consequently, exposure to this white aesthetic, especially at an
early age, would create, proliferate and reinforce a racial hierarchy.
In The Black Arts Movement, Larry Neal also discusses how a racial hierarchy is reinforced
through the proliferation of a predominant, societal, white aesthetic. Neal says that, there are in fact
and in spirit two Americas one black, one white. (Neal 2039). Further, Neal discusses the danger of
not counteracting the white way of thinking, trumpeting the need for a Black aesthetic. The motive
behind the Black aesthetic is the destruction of the white thing, the destruction of white ideas, and
white ways of looking at the world. (Neal 2040). Neal s adamancy concerning the need for a Black
aesthetic confirms his belief in the existence and power of a predominant, societal, white

Analysis of Immanuel Kant s Arguements in The...
In the essay titled Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals published in the Morality and Moral
Controversies course textbook, Immanuel Kant argues that the view of the world and its laws is
structured by human concepts and categories, and the rationale of it is the source of morality
which depends upon belief in the existence of God. In Kant s work, categorical imperative was
established in order to have a standard rationale from where all moral requirements derive.
Therefore, categorical imperative is an obligation to act morally, out of duty and good will alone. In
Immanuel Kants writing human reason and or rational are innate morals which are responsible for
helping human. Needless to say, this also allows people to be able to... Show more content on

Freedom of the will can never be disproven or proven because will is influenced by the force
outside of the human body and humans use reason to determine the law themselves. Rational
people recognize themselves as free according to the categorical imperative.
Though I found myself sometimes disagreeing with the philosophy by Immanuel Kant, I found his
subjective reasoning to be thought provoking. I was pulled by two different forces after Kant
defined happiness as the state of a rational being in the world in the whole of whose existence
everything goes according to his wish and will. This unconventional way of defining term of
happiness strands away from the definition of happiness written by philosopher in the name of
John Stuart Mill. Mill defines happiness as a state of maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain.
In the writing, Immanuel argues that possession of wealth, health, or bravery can be used for
afflicted purposes and these characteristics cannot be essentially good. To Kant, being worthy of
happiness requires for one to possess a good will. The genuine good is the only unconditional good
which is connected to a good will. Disastrous misfortunes can happen but the goodness of the will
still remains. In this described above idea Immanuel provides a concrete support. According to my
interpretation of the author s idea and supporting statements, each day my actions consequentially
are moderately influenced by Kant s philosophy. I also believe that

The True Hero In Wuulf And Beowulf
As Walter Cronkite, a former CBS anchorman, once said, In seeking truth you have to get both
sides of the story. In the epic poem Beowulf, the successful Danish warriors and their king,
Hrothgar, are heroically saved by Beowulf, the strongest, bravest man across all seas from Grendel
s twelve year massacre. In the novel Grendel, by John Gardner, the plot unfolds similarly; however,
it is told through the perspective of Grendel, the antagonist in Beowulf. The significant difference in
perspectives poses the complex question to readers asking, Who is the real monster? In the epic
poem and novel, Hrothgar, the Danish King, is the true monster through his influence, corruption,
and unmoral actions.
Being the ultimate ruler, Hrothgar initiates his monstrous character by influencing his loyal
warriors. Although some may argue that the Danes are evil, Hrothgar molds and motivates their
actions as their respected king. Rising to power and fame, Hrothgar built Herot, a celebratory
mead hall to distribute treasure and feast with his warriors. Through success in battles, Hrothgar,
whose word was obeyed all over the world, rewarded his loyal Danes with his treasure full hands
in Beowulf (6). Receiving praise and craving eternal fame, the Danes followed Hrothgar s
instructions at all costs. Furthermore, the Danes are influenced by Hrothgar through the Shaper s
songs. Describing Herot, the Shaper sang of a glorious mead hall whose light would shine to the
end of the

Analysis Of The Book Severus Snape
1: Character of Severus Snape
Severus Snape is shown to be a person who is not just a strict teacher but also cold towards most
people. As the story evolves, we learn Snape s story and the side he actually is on. Professor
Severus Snape (9 January, 1960 2 May, 1998) was a half blood wizard who was the son of the
witch Eileen Snape and Muggle Tobias Snape. Severus was made a member of the Slug Club,
presumably because of his brilliance at potion making, and Horace Slughorn kept a picture of
him as a student, clutching his copy of Advanced Potion Making. Despite this, Horace did not
have many hopes for Severus s future, as his photograph was kept behind many others. Shortly
before Lily Evans was murdered by Lord Voldemort, Snape changed sides and became a member of
the Order of the Phoenix and double agent during the Second Wizarding War. With tremendous
difficulty, Snape prevented Lord Voldemort from learning the truth about his loyalties. Despite the
opinions of most others including Harry during his early life, Albus Dumbledore trusted Snape for
reasons that were kept between them both until their deaths. When he died, it was revealed that his
deep strong love for Lily Evans caused him to redeem himself, joining Dumbledore s cause at the
prospect of her protection (and, after her death, that of her son) from Lord Voldemort. verus Potter

The New Child
THE NEW CHILD AT SCHOOL Working with young children demand a special attention
because leaving their parent could be very difficult for them. There, are always a hard time for
some children who come the first time in school. I see that at my work some children cry all day
long sometimes one or two weeks they still are crying. It is important that a familymember can
come with the childfor a short period to visit the class before starting the first day in which the
child can realize that he has not been abandoned. It is also at the beginning of the first few days,
family member can stay a few minutes with the child s classroom for additional reassurance. As
a teacher, it is important to help the family, as well as the child, say good bye, I love you, when
it is time for mother or father to leave. I find in the book one sentence that I agree with, families
should be encouraged to establish a routine that maintains trust for instance always waving, good
bye, hugging rather than sneaking out when the child is not looking. Some parents are dealing
like that just drop up the child and leave or if the child cries they sneak. Therefore, teacher who
work with young children should be available to welcome and spend some time with new child and

people can be trusted. Children need to develop social skills that help them make friends, work

to feel secure about themselves and enjoy positive social interaction. As a preschool teacher, we
must learn children how to socialize each other and other adults, as teacher serves as a social

Mexican American Cultural Revival
Cultural revival refers to the resilience of unique traditions or group identities from the past for
current social and political affairs. People recover the loss of vital ethnic practices due to forced or
voluntary relocation, colonization or oppression in the past. The process of cultural revival such as
consolidating political identity, personal rights and recognition often consciously or unconsciously
associated with the minorities. The adaptation of past musical elements and genre into prevailing
events in the society. Huelga song is a great example in illustrating the cultural revival of corridos,
and plays an important role in U.S. American music.
The word huelga means strike in English. Similarly, huelga songs have the traits of articulating
political consciousness among the minorities, and the songs are composed entirely in Spanish.
During the 1960s, when the Chicano Movement began, and cultural revival was being employed.

Bill Bryson s Travels
Bill Bryson, who grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, says that someone had to be from Des Moines.
He says people there either accept the fact that they ll marry a local girl and work at Firestone or
they spend years moaning about the place and grow up to marry a local girl and work at

Compare And Contrast Feminism And Liberal Feminism
Whilst many disagreements have arisen in feminist discourse over the years, none has been quite
as prevalent or divisive as the issue of the commodification of sexuality. There are two central
groups in feminist ideology that are divided on this issue, liberal feminism and radical feminism.
Liberal feminismis influenced by the ideas and values of liberalism. Thus, these feminists share a
contractarian view which places an emphasis on a woman s ability to make choices for herself
and that the selling of one s sexuality is merely an expression of that choice. Paradoxically, radical
feminists believe that because women live in a patriarchal society, the commodification of
sexuality can never be a choice or a form of expression. Rather, forms of sexual commodification
such as pornography and prostitution just enforce male oppression. This essay will explore these
two ideological positions in regard to their divergent definitions of human nature and freedom
which has created a division within feminism about the commodification of sexuality.
Liberal feminism is grounded in the ideological framework of liberalism and therefore shares a
commonality with liberal themes of human nature. Whilst acknowledging the biological
differences between sexes, early liberal feminists argued that prevailing liberal ideas should also be
applied to women. Therefore, both men and women possesses natural rights, they should have
equal rights under law and share equal opportunity (Beasley 1999).

Women s Rights In A Worn Path
The twentieth century saw many changes in the treatment of African Americans and Women. After
the Civil War ended in 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment was passed. African Americans were now
free, but this freedom came at a cost. Blacks were still treated awfully, their rights were limited,
and they were segregated from the whites. Women were also very limited in their rights during
this time. They could not vote and were often expected to work at home and raise a family. Jim
Crow Laws, laws they enforced racial segregation, were put in place from the late nineteenth
century through the 1950s (Shi and Brown 599). Although they had the right to vote, unlike
women, many actions were also taken to keep blacks from voting. Poll fees were charged and...

From slavery to segregation, being of black skin was no easy task. During this crucial point in
American History, African Americans slowly lost the majority of the racial discrimination that
tore them down. In the 1930s 1940s violence grew against blacks and the Great Depression hit
black Americans the hardest. Phoenix was born in roughly the 1850s. She grew up as a slave and
was lucky enough to see emancipation. Phoenix is illiterate because she was too old to go to
school when the slaves were freed. She faces racism along her path from the hunter and the

Doesn t the gun scare you? Phoenix responds to the hunter by saying, I seen plenty go off closer

False News Bias Essay
Everyday, billions of people read websites, magazines, newspapers, or watch television segments

people rely on and check constantly. What people aren t aware of however, is that so much of
what they are being told is a lie. False newsis a growing and constant issue in today s society. Fake

Most of this has to do with the fact that fake news is biased. People like and share the
information that aligns or confirms their beliefs and disregard the information that does not.
According to a recent analysis, information can bring people together or drive them apart... Fake
news is divisive . On the other hand, real news brings the people who agree even closer and
persuades the ones who do not. With fake news ruining the flow of this common ground, people
have become more and more divided on certain topics (Donath). One important aspect of society
that has been completely bombarded with false information is the Presidential Election. In fact,
as election day got closer and closer, the most popular stories were derived from false
information (Obama). That is a big problem because as voters were trying to make an educated
decision on who to vote for, they were being told information that was not even true. Some
people say that fake news could have even altered the election results. But why are people
believing all this? In order for a piece of information to change someone s opinion on something,
they obviously have to truly believe and buy into that information. False news sources have been
working to develop ways to get people to think what they are saying is true. One way to do this is
by confusing the viewer just enough to not know what is true. Another way is by making their
sites look extremely professional and falsely crediting information to trustworthy places ( Fake
News and the Internet Shell Game ). Unfortunately, once fake news is produced and in the public,
it can change people s views on the

Learning From Traditional Classroom And Learning
I have experience in both learning from the traditional classroom and learning from the online
setting. I can easily identify the differences between these two types of learning environments. The
two main differences can be divided by two categories which are flexibility and class discussions
(Bethel University, n.d.)
?There is far less flexibility in a traditional classroom (Bethel University, n.d.). As a formal student
of a traditional classroom learning environment, I had to physically drive to the college, carry my
textbooks everywhere, and attend class at a designated day and time each week. Since I didn t
have any children, I didn t have to be concerned with finding a babysitter (Bethel University,
n.d.). At the end of each school day, I had to pay for parking as I exited the campus parking
garage. Online learning can be conducted anytime and anywhere that has internet connection. The
greater flexibility involved with online learning can cause a lot of stress to a student. It would be
easy for a student to forget the weekly deadlines and the upcoming schedules (Bethel, University,
n.d.). Students can suffer from a perceived lack of guidance, may experience isolation, and will
likely have technology issues from time to time. (Bethel University, n.d., p. 7). In an online class

Effects of U.S. Foreign Policy on Cuba
The foreign policy of the United States toward Cuba over the past fifty years has caused many
problems for the Cuban society and its people, and relations between the two nations have been at
odds for decades due to the harsh foreign policy stance of the United States toward Cuba. The
United States has considered Cuba as its enemy ever since July 1960 when Fidel Castro s new
revolutionary government changed everything. Castro seized privately owned land in Cuba,
nationalized several privately owned companies (most of which were subsidiaries of U.S.
businesses), and heavily taxed American products which led to U.S. exports being reduced greatly,
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the U.S. banned trade with and travels to Cuba and considered all countries who do
engage in Cuban trade and travel to be an enemy to the U.S. (Arcelaschi 1). When the United
States learned of Cuba s communist affiliations they did not take time to analyze the situation and
quickly cut off all relations and access to the nation, which sent a message but did nothing to
destroy communism. Even after a course of several decades with the harsh isolationist policy in
place, Castro s communist regime is still firmly in power. The U.S. was too quick in its decision
and attempt to take out the communist government and took drastic measures by imposing a full
embargo to try to solve a problem that could have been solved in a much more effective and ethical
way.
The relatively short distance between Cuba and the U.S. naturally led to a long and involved
history of relations between the two nations, but relations between the two nations over the past
fifty years have been unhealthy and harmful to both nations. The embargo imposed by the U.S. has
only been damaging and unhelpful to the situation. As a result of the new government s
nationalization policy, American investors suffered major losses and the U.S. retaliated in July
1960 by canceling planned purchases of Cuban sugar (Crouch 70). This was the first act of neglect
toward Cuba that would only quickly progress until all trade and relations were cut off with Cuba.

Constantine as a Christian Hero Essay
Constantine as a Christian Hero
Christianity s history is filled with division, controversy, and conflict. One of the most important
people who contributed to the lasting success of this diverse religion was Constantine. While
legalizing Christianity in Roman society, he founded the capital of the eastern Roman Empire,
Constantinople. Because of this and other great accomplishments, Constantine appropriately earned
the name Constantine the Great. After his father s death in 306, the Gaul army hailed Constantine
as their ruler. After five years as the emperor of Gaul, Constantine invaded Italy. After defeating the
Roman army, Constantine entered Rome as the ruler of the western half of the empire. In 313,

On the other hand, Athanasius, the leader of the bishops in the west, claimed that the Father and
Son were equal and of the same substance. In 325, as a mediator, Constantine called together a
council of bishops at Nicaea in Asia Minor. While condemning Arius and his teachings, the council
declared the complete equality of God the Father and the Son. The teaching that Father and Son
were made up of one substance became part of the Nicene Creed, the statement that helped to unite
Christianity. The council addressed other issues as well, including the method for consecrating
bishops. Next, Constantine moved the capital from Rome to the east. He chose the Greek city of
Byzantium. In 330, after expanding and enriching the city, it was dedicated as New Rome, but it
was called Constantinople, meaning the city of Constantine. Constantinople became the capital of
Christianity in the east, while Rome dominated the religion in the west. Constantine s continuous
support for Christianity is one of the reasons that it is still a major religion today. I believe that
Constantine was a great ruler because of his dedication to the unity of Christianity. Regardless of
the different schisms in the religion, Constantine was determined to make Christianity unified. The
Edict of Milan shows that Constantine had respect for other religions and allowed them, but
preferred Christianity. It also shows that, even

like the period, but the semicolon is more than just the eyes of your smiley. It s a subtle form of

complete and similar sentences. When two thoughts are tied strongly to one another, you may

Comparing Ovid s Metamorphoses And The Bible
When we look at creation myths throughout history and across religions we can see many
similarities drawn but also many differences. Close ties can be seen between Ovid s
Metamorphoses and Genesis in the Bible as well differences between the latter and the Aztec story
of creation. These myths can be contrasted on their themes and moral s demonstrated, the divine
intervention that takes place, and type of creation mythit is. When looking at the myths through
those aspects we can see key resemblances between the myths such as the evolution of the world
and its people and this shed s light onto the civilisation of origin.
In Ovid s Metamorphoses we a world created by the gods that is filled with plant and animal life

a perfect world. Each god is superseded when their version of earth fails by another who wipes it

to be again wiped clean.

delves into the story of the Mirabel sisters. Patria, Maria Teresa, Dede, and Minerva narrate the
story of their lives from young teenagers in 1938, until their last breath in 1960. The only sister to
survive was Dede. Alvarez in the Dominican Republicinterviewed Dede. Dede gives her in depth
knowledge of her sisters lives and background. Alvarez vocalizes, They became real to me because
she was real (Heredia page 4). Alvarez expresses, Their voices became real to me in an intuitive

The Pros And Cons Of Intellectual Property
Intellectual property as is perceived globally has been in existence as long humankind. However,
the rights and laws pertaining to intellectual property have been recognised and afforded protection
only in recent years. This can be attributed to the global shift from the bygone industrial revolution
to the ongoing knowledge revolution. The developed nations of the world appraised that
knowledge in its various forms is what is more profitable in terms of trade and development
leading to what is known as the knowledge economy . Rapid advancements in technology and the
requirement to stay ahead of global competitors lead to intellectual propertybecoming a keystone to
country, tying its survival in global markets to the protection for intellectual property afforded by it.
The several forms in which intellectual property manifests itself had led to the introduction of
copyrights, patents, trademarks, and various other mechanisms by which protection is ensured.
The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), established by the WIPO Convention of
1967, states that Intellectual Property refers to creations of the mind: inventions; literary and
artistic works; and symbols, names, and images used in commerce .

This can be completed through online courses, lectures, conferences, and courses that meet

the French artist Nicolas Poussin. This painting was sold to Catherine the Great of Russia in
1771. It was sold another time by the Hermitage Museum in 1932 when the Soviet government
was desperate for western currency. It was then that it was acquired for the Philadelphia Museum

What Is The Executive Branch Of Government
According to the US Constitution, a successful government, particularly a democracy, must have
six basic principals to function while keeping the people content and avoiding harsh dictatorship.
These can be simplified into two main beliefs. Firstly, that the hands of the people, a vast
majority of the people, hold the power of government. Secondly, that no one part or even all of the
sections of government may have complete rule in the country. Popular sovereignty allows the
majority of people to make decisions and change their country. This is very similar to the consent
of the governed, which defines itself and is also needed to avoid people government conflicts.
Overall, the people must be allowed freedoms that will make them the origin of government power.

Instead, different parts, or what s called branches, of the government handle separate topics. In the
US, there is an executive branch, a judiciary branch, and a legislative branch. The executive
branch is the central power of the government, the judiciary branch tries cases of law before
punishment is handed (which is yet another principal of government), and the legislative branch
creates and votes on laws. And each of these branches may overrule another in certain situations.
For example, the head of the executive branch in the US, the president, may veto or do away with
a law, but if the legislative branch has enough votes, they can keep that law anyway. That is having
what s called checks and balances, and prevents any one part of government from becoming too

Prokaryotes And Archaea Similarities
INTRODUCTION
Definitions for Archaea vary, but what is commonly agreed upon is that these are some sort of
micro organisms.
Some argue them to be their own distinct domain, whereas others think they are merely part of the
prokaryotic domain. However many see them as a evolutionary step in between, as prokaryotic
relatives to eukaryotes. (x) Since their evolutionary history remains very unclear, it is hard to
classify them belonging to a group of their own or belonging to either prokaryotes or eukaryotes.
In 1977, Woese suggested dividing cells into three new domains; archaea, eukaryotes and
prokaryotes. (x)
Before this cells were divided into two main groups: prokaryotic cells, and eukaryotic cells.
Prokaryotic cells have no nucleus or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their structural similarities are the reasoning behind why one might say that they belong to the
prokaryotic domain, being structurally very similar, especially on the first glance. The unique
properties will be discussed further later in this essay.
SIMILARITIES BETWEEN EUKARYOTES AND ARCHAEA
Though structurally, prokaryotic cells seem more similar to archaea than eukaryotic cells, yet when
one inspects their DNA, similarities between DNA replication, transcription and translation appear.
The DNA polymerase in archaea and eukaryotes are not related to any prokaryotic DNA
polymerase, suggesting that these two are of common origin. Other components used in DNA
replication are similarly only shared between eukaryotes and archaea (y). For example, the promoter
(the part of the DNA that initiates transcription), in archaebacteria has similar sequence and
position to its eukaryotic counterpart (x).
These characteristics were thought to be unique to eukaryotes, yet were found in archaea as well.
When so little is known about the evolutionary history of these organisms that constitute for the
basis of life on earth, categorising them becomes immensely hard.

War Of The North Vietnamese And Viet Cong
In late 1967, the United States (US) military created a narrative about their activities in Vietnam
that led the American public to believe that the US was winning against the Communist forces of
the North Vietnamese (NVA) and Viet Cong (VC). This narrative remained unchanged, and was in
fact reinforced, despite the interception of intelligence detailing plans for a major offensive
operation in South Vietnam. The Communist forces planned to stage a major operation in order to
ensure a final victory over the US and allied forces and to provoke a popular uprising. A close

A main component of the operation was the reliance on the South Vietnamese population revolting,
the government collapsing, and the communist forces being welcomed in the south as liberators.
The establishment of a pro Communist regime would come as an after effect of unit mutinies and
defections, mass popular revolts, and the annihilation...[of] the opposing military forces (Cosmas,
2009). The NVA/VC were planning on leveraging all their possible assets in order to ensure
victory. This would not solely be a ground fight the Politburo in the North had decided to wager
everything on the outcome of this battle, seemingly believing the US narrative of an approaching
victory for the Americans. In addition to the very strong military attacks that would shift control of
cities and towns, the NVA/VC would disseminate propaganda amongst the populace but
specifically target the enemy officers and enlisted personnel (Turner, 1992). One of the primary
goals of General Offensive/General Uprising was to provoke a popular uprising but the exact
opposite came about. Buoyed by the energetic response by the government of President Thieu and
the respectable fighting of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, popular support ended up
increasing for the government in Saigon. This represented a clear strategic failure for the NVA.

Positive Impacts Of The Crusades

because, many crusaders destroyed muslims property, and killed a lot of them. More reasons
why the crusades were more negative was because they killed a lot of people including many
innocent people like women and children. Crusaders also destroyed many buildings, synagogues
and holy books, and Jews were being attacked. The last thing is the crusaders did things they were
not supposed to do. For example they attacked other places when they were hired to do other
things not including attacking anything, so they lied and did the opposite of what they were going
to do. So, in result with this many people were angry and the crusadescame out as more negative

A myth that many college age users like to believe is that there are numerous ways we can speed
up the process of becoming sober. These commonly believed methods include, drinking coffee,
taking a cold shower or exercising. There is only one way that a drinker can sober up and that is
to let the liver breakdown the alcohol. This process can differ in people depending on their
individual rate of metabolism, but overall this is a slow process that requires a significant amount
of time and cannot be sped up by outside means. Another commonly accepted myth and one that is
often encouraged is that drinking hard liquor will get you drunk faster than drinking beer. In fact,
the amount of alcohol in one beer is equal to the amount of alcohol in one shot of hard liquor,
(U.S. Department of Health, 1977). Although many of these myths would be beneficial to our
drinking experiences, they are all in fact false and users of alcohol must be aware of them.
Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs in the United States today. Sixty three percent of

The Year Round Schooling System Essay
The traditional school calendar used by most schools in the United States stems from the original
agrarian calendar as students were often called to tend to crops in the summer. This was
thoughtfully and effectively designed for the time period it was created in; however, schools,
research, and society have dramatically changed since then. The agrarian calendar no longer makes
sense, as we consider overcrowding in schools and the significant research regarding the summer
brain drain. There are several models of year round schooling that would better serve all
stakeholders in most communities across the nation.
Position and Rationale American students do not need more time in school, but do need access to
more rigorous, engaging instruction, as well as a calendar that removes the excessive break
schedule (summers) and promotes healthy, regular breaks throughout the year, such as the single
track year round schooling system. Year round educationincludes the possibility of three different
formats: single track, multi track, and the extended school year. Rodgers (1993) reports that the
United States has the shortest school year of (180 days) of any industrialized nation. She
encourages school districts to analyze other models of year round education as a method of
boosting student achievement. Rodgers, like Dessoff, shares the benefits and the disadvantages of
each format. According to Dessoff (2011), single track is the most popular year round format, as it

The music is rebellious and its uncompromising intensity is uncatagorizable for its urgent flooding

and still, 30 years later, so original, so Progressive, and so inadequately described.
It s no wonder that with his transformation into electric experiment, Miles lost a huge share of the
loyal audience who had been following his earlier career. This new electric music dared to shed a
amp;quot;jazz amp;quot; sound to integrate the highly charged, youthful raw power from rock and

being multicultural, it makes an even bigger transgression: it is often unpleasant, assaulted, harsh,

While Psychoanalysis has provided many psychological breakthroughs in the field of mental health,
it has also created great issue in relation to gender equality. Freud s Psychoanalytic theory has
contributed to the solidification of female oppression, and to the inferior status of women in the
twentieth century. Psychoanalysis had become so intwined into the constructs of a male dominated

227). Freudian theory in the same way also creates a great conflict between mother and daughter.
While the mother son relationship allows the mother to reach fulfillment by giving birth to a son to
on whom she can project her ambitions, the mother daughter relationship never reaches a resolve.
Freud states that tensions start with a denial of love when the mother chooses to stop breast
feeding the daughter. These tensions grow further when the daughter gains an understanding of
genital dominance and holds hostility for the mother because she denied her a penis. This
changes her father into her object of love and her mother into her greatest rival. Freud pits the
women as rivals, which undermines the mother daughter relationship and leaves the feminine
bond completely fractured. Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber attempts to change this ideal
by re establishing the feminine narrative through her story. Although the view of female as a
commodity is far older than psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic theory has consistently re enforced
the ideals of women as objects and of a lower status than men (Loftus). In The Bloody Chamber
Carter works to discredit the concept of the female as a commodity. When reflecting on the
Marquis previous wives, the narrator of The Bloody Chamber references the portrait model saying
her face was common property (pg. 5). From the surface, this is an allusion to the fact that she
allowed herself to be painted,

Causative verb is used when talking about something that someone else did for another person. It

How Did The British Government To Respond To The...
The American Revolution was preceded in part by a series of British Parliament laws that regulated
trade and taxes. Rumors from England that more taxes might follow encouraged some colonists to
begin thinking about whether they really consented to taxes passed by a Parliament to which they
elected no representatives. (1) This particular legislation of taxation caused tensions between
colonists and local imperial officials, who readdressed the colonists concerns that the British
Parliament would not address American complaints concerning the new laws. The unwillingness to
respond to American demands for change by the British opened the doors to colonial argument that
they were part of a corrupt and tyrannical empire in which their traditional liberties were at stake!
This position eventually served as the foundation for the Declaration of Independence. As the
British government emerged from the Seven Years War in 1763, they were troubled with
outstanding debts. This led British Prime Minister George Grenville to reduce the tax collected on
items such as sugar and molasses as they were imported into Great Britain, but also to enforce the
law more strictly. Since enforcement of these taxes had previously been lenient, this increased
revenue for the British Government in the the long term, and served to increase the taxes paid by
the colonists. New York and Massachusetts colonial governments issued formal letters of protest to
Parliament. (2) Add to this the Currency Act of

The Major Causes Of The French Revolution 1789-1799
During the time period 1789 1799, France experienced a revolution, known as the French
Revolution. French citizens, particularly the Third Estate fought for equality and a fresh political
landscape. This revolution altered the economic, social, political, and cultural aspects of France.
People often banter about what was the main factor that triggered the outbreak of the French
Revolution. What most people do not understand is that the Revolution was caused by many
different factors. The French Revolution (1789 1799) was caused by three main factors, which
were the ideas formed throughout the Enlightenment, problems regarding the inequality of the
social classes, and a lack of legislative government. The Ideas brought from the Enlightenment
became the most influential in sparking the French Revolution, as it led to the other causes
occurring.
The most influential cause of the French Revolution, were the ideas of the Enlightenment. The
enlightenment provided new thoughts and ideas to the people of France, allowing knowledge to be
broadened widely among French citizens, exposing the many flaws in the government, taxes, and
the social system. Specifically, the Enlightenment provided ideas focused on the cultural and
philosophical point of view among the populace. One main reason the revolution was caused by
this Enlightenment time period was because the ideas of ruling strictly prohibited the divine rights
of kings and queens, which France had at the time. Many renowned

Essay On How To Achieve The American Dream
In order to attain the American Dream people must dream it, plan it, and simply let it work itself
into place and enjoy it. Even Though, it is hard to achieve goals in today s society, many
successful people do it everyday with just three steps. First, a person must dream up an American
Dream (Steps to Achieve Your Dream). Everything begins in the heart and a passion to achieve it
(Steps to Achieve Your Dream). Every successful achievement began in the mind of someone
(Steps to Achieve Your Dream). When that person thinks to the extreme they can generate big
ideas within the mind (Steps to Achieve Your Dream). Once someone knows their dream, it is
best for them to keep it to themselves rather than telling others right away because negative
minded outsiders will try to turn them away from that dream (Steps to Achieve Your Dream).
Also, people tend to think of the possibilities for themselves and family (Steps to Achieve Your
Dream). Don t ever let a great dream run cold because life s too short to give up (Steps to Achieve
Your Dream).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every dream happens from the start of some sort of suggestion (Steps to Achieve Your Dream).
There is an old saying stating that someone gets what they plan for , and if that saying wasn t true
dreams just wouldn t happen (Steps to Achieve Your Dream). Great minded people will sit down
and plan out a strategy for achieving the dream (Steps to Achieve Your Dream). They tend to think
every single little detail through to the fullest and, break the whole plan down into small, workable
parts (Steps to Achieve Your Dream). Then they will set up a tight schedule for accomplishing each

A Comparison Of The Five Characters In The Catcher In The Rye
Today I m dining with 5 characters from the novel The Catcher in the Rye, who I consider close
friends; the characters are Holden Caulfield, Ackley, Jane Gallagher, Phoebe Caulfield, and
Stradlater. By the end of our Chinese dinner we all received a fortune cookie! The first to open
their fortune cookieswas Holden. His fortunesaid, Don t be unreal, this is only appropriate for
Holden because throughout the book he struggles with accepting reality and learning how to
cooperate with it. Ackley struggles to open his fortune cookie, but he got there. His fortune said,
Lying is always your first choice, but it will become your last resort once you become the lie
yourself. This made complete sense considering Ackley was always lying about his sexual
encounters; he kept his message to himself. Jane opens hers to see a surprise, You know you re
respected and loved, embrace it. Jane is one of the few people Holden enjoys. This gave a hint to
Jane, it left her puzzled. Phoebe, Holden s younger sister opened her fortune cookie with a sly
look on her face. She read her fortune aloud, Sunshine. She got this message because her
innocence would be the sunlight to Holden s day. Soon the sexy bastard (a nickname Holden gave
to his roommate Stradlater) at the table got to his fortune cookie. The fortune cookie said, Gross.
Stradlater is embarrassed and decides not to share his fortune with the table. This fortune was
accurate because he is very unhygienic at Home. Everyone

The Stern Concert Essay
The enriching experience of listening to live music has been a pleasurable pastime for many
individuals since the creation of music itself. The ability for musicians to provoke profound
emotions in others is a form of social communication that is unmatched by any other type of human
connection which allowed musicto retain its popularity throughout history. Without an artistic mode
of expression for humans to communicate what can t be directly spoken, life becomes dull and
devoid of emotionwhere the only clear method left of expression is through verbal and linguistic
communication. Music, in general, acts as a unifying intermediate where both the historical tales of
the era coincide with the rhythmic stylings of the composers to evoke compelling... Show more

The entire program included 240 qualified instrumentalists from a wide variety of backgrounds as
well as vocalists who performed contemporary music as well as indigenous music not commonly
performed in the U.S. The Stern auditorium was adorned with multiple rows of red velvet seats,
gold painted art decor and walls that lined the foyer, and three enormous monitors placed at center
stage to display picturesque imagery to represent the overarching themes of the performance. The
architecture of the Stern auditorium was based on an Italian renaissance revival where the
utilization of absorptive material in key focused areas above the stage; reduce the levels of focused
sound and allowed for the legendary acoustics that Carnegie Hall is known for. Each one of the
pieces performed throughout the concert reflected various cultural backgrounds as the main
theme of the show highlighting the diversity and social unity throughout the world. The program
included an assortment of pieces ranging from Korean and Chinese folk music to Russian Opera
Arias followed by more contemporary pieces including music from Coldplay and David Bowie
in varying arrangements compared to their original sound to fit in a more concert esque style. The
25 performers of the traditional East Asian pieces brought from their countries original folk
instruments such as the Gayageum, a Korean zither like string instrument and the guzheng, a
Chinese plucked string instrument with 21 string which added to the authenticity of the
performance. Only those who performed traditional folk songs were wearing customary
Hanboks which are colorful, long dresses primarily used during formal events while the rest of
the performers wore formal black tie. From the opera Rusalka, the piece Song to the Moon was
performed in a Russian Opera Arias style were a single main vocalist took center stage

New Mexico Restaurant Research Paper
Havana Restaurant In New Mexico it is very easy to find a restaurant that serves Latino themed
food. Often, these restaurants put their own spin into the food and it becomes New Mexican.
However, if you look hard enough, you may find authentic food from other Latino countries. There
are MANY restaurants in Albuquerque and they all serve delicious and unique meals. For this
assignment I wanted to try something new and indulge in unique tastes that I will remember for
years. I meticulously researched restaurants on Google and found one that caught my attention. Its
name is Havana Restaurant. It is in Daskalos Shopping Center off Menaul and San Mateo and its
hours of operation are 11 A.M. to 8 P.M (Google Search: Havana Restaurant Albuquerque).

The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education Essay
The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education To understand the importance of Brown V.
The Board of Education of Topeka, one must take into account the gravity of the prevailing law
and attitude that existed in 1954. In 1896, the Supreme Court established the separate but equal
doctrine in the case of Plessy V. Ferguson. Essentially the court was saying that blacks should be
treated equally but due to an obvious difference, race, blacks could be treated equally but separate.
Justice Henry Brown wrote in his majority opinion; The object of the Fourteenth Amendment was
undoubtedly to enforce the absolute equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of

In fact a series of cases from Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia and Delaware all found their way
to the Supreme Court. But a distinguished attorney with the NAACP named Thurgood Marshall
brought Linda Browns case to prominence. By this time, Thurgood Marshall was an
experienced Supreme Court advocate. He had already challenged all white primary elections in
Smith V. Allwright, and restrictive covenants in Shelley V. Kraemer. His style was
straightforward and plainspoken. He held no punches and got to his point without a lot of
dramatics. When asked for a definition of the word equal by Justice Felix Frankfurter, Marshall
replied, Equal means getting the same thing, at the same time, and in the same place. 2 This was
the basis of his case. Chief Justice Earl Warren presided over the case, and on May 17, 1954
decided in Brown s favor. In a brief, unanimous opinion delivered by Warren, the Court declared
that; separate education facilities are inherently unequal 3 and that racial segregation violates the
equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, thus overruling the Plessy case. Many Americans
praised Warren s decision agreeing that in

Lady Capulet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet Essay
Lady Capulet in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
A woman during the 16th century did not have the freedoms that a woman today enjoys. During
Shakespeare s life wives were not allowed the independence they take pleasure in today. Therefore,
the role of the mother for Juliet in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is not commanding or
authoritative because of the time period Shakespeare lived.
The role of a wife must be looked at in order to understand and appreciate Juliet s mother. When a
couple was married during the 16th century, Susan Amussen said it was the beginning of a
partnership, but not one of equal proportions. The husband is awarded all the power in the family.
He represents the family to the outside world and keeps the peace ... Show more content on

As a woman, Lady Capulet can relate to how Juliet feels when she is told she is to marry Paris.
However, as a wife, she cannot voice an opinion of who or when Juliet is to marry. She is
experienced, and asks Juliet, Speak briefly: can you like of Paris love (1.3.98). Because she is
the caretaker, she respects Juliet s feelings, but she can do nothing, even if Juliet does not learn to
love Paris. Perhaps she asks this question because her own mother never asked it. She may want to
know her daughter s opinion, because until a woman is married, she has all the rights of a man
according to Pitt. However, the father ruled over his daughter, and it was virtually impossible to
remain unmarried while the father held all the decision making (14).
An ideal wife during the 16th century, according to author Barnaby Rich is, A friend for
pleasure, a servant for profit, a counselor to advise him, a comforter to cherish him, and a
companion to solace him (115). That is exactly what Lady Capulet is to her husband. She is the
one who has to inform Juliet about her wedding to Paris. Capulet has the power to choose whom
their daughter will marry, but it is the wife who is given the job to tell Juliet. Capulet says, Go
you to Juliet ere you go to bed. Prepare her, wife, against this wedding day (3.4.31 32). As the
obeying wife of the time, she does as she is told.

Studies in Brazil Resulted in Janice Perlman s Book, The...
For once complete year (1968 1969), Janice Perlman lived in the favelas (informal housing
settlements of Rio de Janeiro in the beautiful country of Brazil. Her studies conducted research
which resulted in the book The Myth of Marginality: Urban Poverty and Politics in Rio de
Janeiro, published in 1976. The book extensively disagreed with the negative perspectives of the
urban poor that were prevalent at the time. Her first book criticized the attitude accepted by the
people against the urban poor for their alleged disability to integrate themselves into the city s job
market. Moreover, a key argument was to identify the irony and absurdity behind blaming the
victims for their own poverty. In 1999, thirty years later, Perlman decided to revisit Rio de Janeiro
and began a new study with the previously used locations: the favela of Catacumba, which was
destroyed in 1970, forcing its residents to relocated to multiple low income apartment complexes
known as conjuntos; Nova Brasilia, which became part of the infamous Complexo do Alemao (a
complex of many favelas); and lastly the municipality of Duque de Caxias which is located in
region known as the Lowlands of the State of Rio (Baixada Fluminense). This newly acquired
research served in the production of Favela: Four Decades of Living on the Edge in Rio de Janeiro.
This book tells the stories of people that Perlman interviewed along with their children and
grandchildren. She blends detailed personal testimonies with insightful

accomplishing a task and a procedure will articulate the details on how to accomplish that task. As
Stephen Butler Page states in his book, Establishing a System of Policies and Procedures: Setting
up a Successful Policies and Procedures System for Printed, On line, and Intranet Manuals:
Policies and procedures are like a state road map. The map at a glance shows areas of interest and
the general direction in which to travel to reach a desired estimation. The roads on the map

Sandy Hearst Argumentative Essay
After the trial and listening to the statements of the prosecutors involved, it is now up to the jury
to decide what happens in this case. Dana Ivy is said to have been drunk, which resulted in a car
accident on the morning of December 17. However, the defensive side says she was not
intoxicated and that was not the cause of this accident occurring at the intersection of Justice and
Eagle street. This accident resulted in severe injuries to Terry Vickers, the other citizen involved in
this accident. Terry Vickers wants to charge Sandy Hearst, the host of a party that occurred on the
night of December 16, for the damages. The plaintiff argues that Sandy was pushing drinks on Dana
Ivy making her unable to operate a vehicle with control. Although Dana Ivy states to have not been

Sandy as well as other guests could not clearly identify Dana as being drunk, also considering
that Dana has an outgoing personality. Sandy Hearst mentions in her statement, Dana just

says there was over 30 people at the party, making it easier for Dana to blend in. However, if
Dana was acting different from all the other guests showing signs of intoxication that is unusual
for herself to do, it would be a reliable statement. Even though alcoholic drinks were served,
Sandy provided drinks for non drinkers as well and even offered them to all her guests including
Dana Ivy. Sandy Hearst may be liable for serving alcoholic beverages but, that does not mean she
was forcing that to be the only option of beverages. Lee Porter says, Sandy said there were sodas
for non drinkers if there were any. If Sandy had the intent to push drinks on her guests, she would
not have provided the option of soda to her guests as well as

  • 2. The Reinforcement of Racial Hierarchies in Morrison s The... Race and racial hierarchies are reinforced through the proliferation of a predominant, societal, white aesthetic and through the perceptions associated with physical characteristics. In The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison first illustrates the reinforcement of racial hierarchies through the proliferation of a predominant, societal white aesthetic by recounting passages from the Dick and Janebooks, a standardization of family life. Next, The Black Arts Movementby Larry Nealdemonstrates the reinforcement of racial hierarchies through the proliferation of a white aesthetic by discussing how Black culture, including Black art, is in danger if the white aesthetic is accepted by Black artists. These books, with their simplistic two and three word sentences, were widely used to teach all children how to read and suggested that the lifestyle of Dick and Jane was typical and standard. But, the Dick and Jane lifestyle was certainly not the typical lifestyle for Claudia, Pecola or either of their families. So, that lifestyle was presumed to be the typical white lifestyle. Furthermore, the lifestyle of Dick and Jane was obviously viewed as superior to a sad, broken, difficult family life, similar to what Claudia and Pecola were accustomed, so white lifestyles in general were viewed as superior. Consequently, exposure to this white aesthetic, especially at an early age, would create, proliferate and reinforce a racial hierarchy. In The Black Arts Movement, Larry Neal also discusses how a racial hierarchy is reinforced through the proliferation of a predominant, societal, white aesthetic. Neal says that, there are in fact and in spirit two Americas one black, one white. (Neal 2039). Further, Neal discusses the danger of not counteracting the white way of thinking, trumpeting the need for a Black aesthetic. The motive behind the Black aesthetic is the destruction of the white thing, the destruction of white ideas, and white ways of looking at the world. (Neal 2040). Neal s adamancy concerning the need for a Black aesthetic confirms his belief in the existence and power of a predominant, societal, white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis of Immanuel Kant s Arguements in The... In the essay titled Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals published in the Morality and Moral Controversies course textbook, Immanuel Kant argues that the view of the world and its laws is structured by human concepts and categories, and the rationale of it is the source of morality which depends upon belief in the existence of God. In Kant s work, categorical imperative was established in order to have a standard rationale from where all moral requirements derive. Therefore, categorical imperative is an obligation to act morally, out of duty and good will alone. In Immanuel Kants writing human reason and or rational are innate morals which are responsible for helping human. Needless to say, this also allows people to be able to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freedom of the will can never be disproven or proven because will is influenced by the force outside of the human body and humans use reason to determine the law themselves. Rational people recognize themselves as free according to the categorical imperative. Though I found myself sometimes disagreeing with the philosophy by Immanuel Kant, I found his subjective reasoning to be thought provoking. I was pulled by two different forces after Kant defined happiness as the state of a rational being in the world in the whole of whose existence everything goes according to his wish and will. This unconventional way of defining term of happiness strands away from the definition of happiness written by philosopher in the name of John Stuart Mill. Mill defines happiness as a state of maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain. In the writing, Immanuel argues that possession of wealth, health, or bravery can be used for afflicted purposes and these characteristics cannot be essentially good. To Kant, being worthy of happiness requires for one to possess a good will. The genuine good is the only unconditional good which is connected to a good will. Disastrous misfortunes can happen but the goodness of the will still remains. In this described above idea Immanuel provides a concrete support. According to my interpretation of the author s idea and supporting statements, each day my actions consequentially are moderately influenced by Kant s philosophy. I also believe that ... • 4. The True Hero In Wuulf And Beowulf As Walter Cronkite, a former CBS anchorman, once said, In seeking truth you have to get both sides of the story. In the epic poem Beowulf, the successful Danish warriors and their king, Hrothgar, are heroically saved by Beowulf, the strongest, bravest man across all seas from Grendel s twelve year massacre. In the novel Grendel, by John Gardner, the plot unfolds similarly; however, it is told through the perspective of Grendel, the antagonist in Beowulf. The significant difference in perspectives poses the complex question to readers asking, Who is the real monster? In the epic poem and novel, Hrothgar, the Danish King, is the true monster through his influence, corruption, and unmoral actions. Being the ultimate ruler, Hrothgar initiates his monstrous character by influencing his loyal warriors. Although some may argue that the Danes are evil, Hrothgar molds and motivates their actions as their respected king. Rising to power and fame, Hrothgar built Herot, a celebratory mead hall to distribute treasure and feast with his warriors. Through success in battles, Hrothgar, whose word was obeyed all over the world, rewarded his loyal Danes with his treasure full hands in Beowulf (6). Receiving praise and craving eternal fame, the Danes followed Hrothgar s instructions at all costs. Furthermore, the Danes are influenced by Hrothgar through the Shaper s songs. • 5. Analysis Of The Book Severus Snape 1: Character of Severus Snape Severus Snape is shown to be a person who is not just a strict teacher but also cold towards most people. As the story evolves, we learn Snape s story and the side he actually is on. Professor Severus Snape (9 January, 1960 2 May, 1998) was a half blood wizard who was the son of the witch Eileen Snape and Muggle Tobias Snape. Severus was made a member of the Slug Club, presumably because of his brilliance at potion making, and Horace Slughorn kept a picture of him as a student, clutching his copy of Advanced Potion Making. Despite this, Horace did not have many hopes for Severus s future, as his photograph was kept behind many others. Shortly before Lily Evans was murdered by Lord Voldemort, Snape changed sides and became a member of the Order of the Phoenix and double agent during the Second Wizarding War. With tremendous difficulty, Snape prevented Lord Voldemort from learning the truth about his loyalties. Despite the opinions of most others including Harry during his early life, Albus Dumbledore trusted Snape for reasons that were kept between them both until their deaths. When he died, it was revealed that his deep strong love for Lily Evans caused him to redeem himself, joining Dumbledore s cause at the prospect of her protection (and, after her death, that of her son) from Lord Voldemort. verus Potter in honour of him. There, are always a hard time for some children who come the first time in school. I see that at my work some children cry all day long sometimes one or two weeks they still are crying. It is important that a familymember can come with the childfor a short period to visit the class before starting the first day in which the child can realize that he has not been abandoned. It is also at the beginning of the first few days, family member can stay a few minutes with the child s classroom for additional reassurance. As a teacher, it is important to help the family, as well as the child, say good bye, I love you, when it is time for mother or father to leave. I find in the book one sentence that I agree with, families should be encouraged to establish a routine that maintains trust for instance always waving, good bye, hugging rather than sneaking out when the child is not looking. • 11. Compare And Contrast Feminism And Liberal Feminism Whilst many disagreements have arisen in feminist discourse over the years, none has been quite as prevalent or divisive as the issue of the commodification of sexuality. There are two central groups in feminist ideology that are divided on this issue, liberal feminism and radical feminism. Liberal feminismis influenced by the ideas and values of liberalism. Thus, these feminists share a contractarian view which places an emphasis on a woman s ability to make choices for herself and that the selling of one s sexuality is merely an expression of that choice. Paradoxically, radical feminists believe that because women live in a patriarchal society, the commodification of sexuality can never be a choice or a form of expression. Rather, forms of sexual commodification such as pornography and prostitution just enforce male oppression. This essay will explore these two ideological positions in regard to their divergent definitions of human nature and freedom which has created a division within feminism about the commodification of sexuality. Liberal feminism is grounded in the ideological framework of liberalism and therefore shares a commonality with liberal themes of human nature. Whilst acknowledging the biological differences between sexes, early liberal feminists argued that prevailing liberal ideas should also be applied to women. Therefore, both men and women possesses natural rights, they should have equal rights under law and share equal opportunity (Beasley 1999). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, real news brings the people who agree even closer and persuades the ones who do not. With fake news ruining the flow of this common ground, people have become more and more divided on certain topics (Donath). One important aspect of society that has been completely bombarded with false information is the Presidential Election. In fact, as election day got closer and closer, the most popular stories were derived from false information (Obama). That is a big problem because as voters were trying to make an educated decision on who to vote for, they were being told information that was not even true. Some people say that fake news could have even altered the election results. But why are people believing all this? In order for a piece of information to change someone s opinion on something, they obviously have to truly believe and buy into that information. False news sources have been working to develop ways to get people to think what they are saying is true. One way to do this is by confusing the viewer just enough to not know what is true. I can easily identify the differences between these two types of learning environments. The two main differences can be divided by two categories which are flexibility and class discussions (Bethel University, n.d.) ?There is far less flexibility in a traditional classroom (Bethel University, n.d.). The United States has considered Cuba as its enemy ever since July 1960 when Fidel Castro s new revolutionary government changed everything. Even after a course of several decades with the harsh isolationist policy in place, Castro s communist regime is still firmly in power. The U.S. was too quick in its decision and attempt to take out the communist government and took drastic measures by imposing a full embargo to try to solve a problem that could have been solved in a much more effective and ethical way. The teaching that Father and Son were made up of one substance became part of the Nicene Creed, the statement that helped to unite Christianity. The council addressed other issues as well, including the method for consecrating bishops. Next, Constantine moved the capital from Rome to the east. He chose the Greek city of Byzantium. In 330, after expanding and enriching the city, it was dedicated as New Rome, but it was called Constantinople, meaning the city of Constantine. Constantinople became the capital of Christianity in the east, while Rome dominated the religion in the west. Constantine s continuous support for Christianity is one of the reasons that it is still a major religion today. However, the rights and laws pertaining to intellectual property have been recognised and afforded protection only in recent years. The developed nations of the world appraised that knowledge in its various forms is what is more profitable in terms of trade and development leading to what is known as the knowledge economy . Rapid advancements in technology and the requirement to stay ahead of global competitors lead to intellectual propertybecoming a keystone to country, tying its survival in global markets to the protection for intellectual property afforded by it. The DNA polymerase in archaea and eukaryotes are not related to any prokaryotic DNA polymerase, suggesting that these two are of common origin. Other components used in DNA replication are similarly only shared between eukaryotes and archaea (y). The Year Round Schooling System Essay The traditional school calendar used by most schools in the United States stems from the original agrarian calendar as students were often called to tend to crops in the summer. This was thoughtfully and effectively designed for the time period it was created in; however, schools, research, and society have dramatically changed since then. The agrarian calendar no longer makes sense, as we consider overcrowding in schools and the significant research regarding the summer brain drain. While the mother son relationship allows the mother to reach fulfillment by giving birth to a son to on whom she can project her ambitions, the mother daughter relationship never reaches a resolve. Freud states that tensions start with a denial of love when the mother chooses to stop breast feeding the daughter. These tensions grow further when the daughter gains an understanding of genital dominance and holds hostility for the mother because she denied her a penis. This changes her father into her object of love and her mother into her greatest rival. Freud pits the women as rivals, which undermines the mother daughter relationship and leaves the feminine bond completely fractured. Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber attempts to change this ideal by re establishing the feminine narrative through her story. Although the view of female as a commodity is far older than psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic theory has consistently re enforced the ideals of women as objects and of a lower status than men (Loftus). The unwillingness to respond to American demands for change by the British opened the doors to colonial argument that they were part of a corrupt and tyrannical empire in which their traditional liberties were at stake! This position eventually served as the foundation for the Declaration of Independence. As the British government emerged from the Seven Years War in 1763, they were troubled with outstanding debts. This led British Prime Minister George Grenville to reduce the tax collected on items such as sugar and molasses as they were imported into Great Britain, but also to enforce the law more strictly. Since enforcement of these taxes had previously been lenient, this increased revenue for the British Government in the the long term, and served to increase the taxes paid by the colonists. New York and Massachusetts colonial governments issued formal letters of protest to Parliament. (2) Add to this the Currency Act of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Comparison Of The Five Characters In The Catcher In The Rye Today I m dining with 5 characters from the novel The Catcher in the Rye, who I consider close friends; the characters are Holden Caulfield, Ackley, Jane Gallagher, Phoebe Caulfield, and Stradlater. By the end of our Chinese dinner we all received a fortune cookie! The first to open their fortune cookieswas Holden. His fortunesaid, Don t be unreal, this is only appropriate for Holden because throughout the book he struggles with accepting reality and learning how to cooperate with it. Ackley struggles to open his fortune cookie, but he got there. His fortune said, Lying is always your first choice, but it will become your last resort once you become the lie yourself. This made complete sense considering Ackley was always lying about his sexual encounters; he kept his message to himself. Jane opens hers to see a surprise, You know you re respected and loved, embrace it. Jane is one of the few people Holden enjoys. This gave a hint to Jane, it left her puzzled. Phoebe, Holden s younger sister opened her fortune cookie with a sly look on her face. She read her fortune aloud, Sunshine. She got this message because her innocence would be the sunlight to Holden s day. Soon the sexy bastard (a nickname Holden gave to his roommate Stradlater) at the table got to his fortune cookie. The fortune cookie said, Gross. Stradlater is embarrassed and decides not to share his fortune with the table. This fortune was accurate because he is very unhygienic at Home. Everyone ... Because she is the caretaker, she respects Juliet s feelings, but she can do nothing, even if Juliet does not learn to love Paris. For once complete year (1968 1969), Janice Perlman lived in the favelas (informal housing settlements of Rio de Janeiro in the beautiful country of Brazil. Her studies conducted research which resulted in the book The Myth of Marginality: Urban Poverty and Politics in Rio de Janeiro, published in 1976. The book extensively disagreed with the negative perspectives of the urban poor that were prevalent at the time. Her first book criticized the attitude accepted by the people against the urban poor for their alleged disability to integrate themselves into the city s job market. Moreover, a key argument was to identify the irony and absurdity behind blaming the victims for their own poverty. In 1999, thirty years later, Perlman decided to revisit Rio de Janeiro and began a new study with the previously used locations: the favela of Catacumba, which was destroyed in 1970, forcing its residents to relocated to multiple low income apartment complexes known as conjuntos; Nova Brasilia, which became part of the infamous Complexo do Alemao (a complex of many favelas); and lastly the municipality of Duque de Caxias which is located in region known as the Lowlands of the State of Rio (Baixada Fluminense). This newly acquired research served in the production of Favela: Four Decades of Living on the Edge in Rio de Janeiro.
