Depiction Of Gladiator
A True Depiction of a Gladiator
There have been many movies that try to demonstrate how gladiators trained for their violent combat
against other gladiators, in hope to win and keep their lives at the end of their gruesome battles.
Although, the 1960 s movie Spartacus, with Kirk Douglas, had a few differences demonstrating how
actual gladiators trained in Rome, it still contains more accurate scenes displaying their intense
training. The movie showed the kind of training schools they were in, the armor used, and the styles of
fighting that they practiced to prepare these men, as they did hundreds of years ago in Rome.
To begin with, around 264 BC the gladiator games were introduced in Rome, called Munera. These
games were initially hosted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Rome, there were around 30 different gladiators that were experts with the different shields,
weapons, and armor. There were the elite gladiators, who were freed and decided to remain as
gladiators. Then there were heavily armed gladiators that had a lot of armor and were protected, but
had very little movement when fighting. Finally, there were the lightly armed gladiators, they had little
to no armor, but had the ability to move more freely when fighting. The armor used during their
practices was wooden swords and shields instead of real equipment, for the protection of the
gladiators, the soldiers, and trainers who worked there. When it was time for a match the gladiators
would use real swords, shields, and sometimes armor to battle (Types of Gladiators). The gladiators
also were used to represent strong gods by the way they were dressed and the weapons they used. For
instance, there were unusual weapons, such as a trident, used by the god Neptune, and the use of a net
to follow the water god theme (Retiarri). Unlike in actual gladiator schools, in the movie, it did not
seem to have the men separated by their specialty but they all train together. Spartacus, and the other
gladiators did train using wooden swords and shields. There was a scene were Spartacus had to
actually fight till the death with another gladiator from the school, because some wealthy government
men and their wives came to Ludi Gladiatorium and wanted to see a fight. They paid a high
percentage of money to make this happen, since it was not allowed to fight these gladiators till death
in the schools. Spartacus was given a short sword and a shield, while his opponent was given a fish net
and a trident to battle. Although, Spartacus did not win that fight because his opponent spared his life,
the man did unfortunately get murdered on

Progressive Education Essay
John Keating, a student at Welton Academy inspired his fellow classmates, to meet in caves and read
challenging poetry of the past, not with flashcards, but with these words, Now, my class, you will
learn to think for yourselves again. You will learn to savor words and language. No matter what
anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world. Typically, students do not hear enough of
this type of passion in a traditional classroom. However, a progressive classroom, be it a cave or
college can inspire students to memorize facts, not because they have to, but rather because they want
to for the betterment of humanity. Society desperately needs students educated in a progressive style
because America needs students who realize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Educational philosopher, Marie Montessori was a strong advocate for such learning, particularly for
children under age three who have a strong interest in learning through the use of movement and
verbal play (So what s Montessori and Piaget?).
John Dewey, another educational philosopher believed Education is a social process. Education is
growth. Education is, not a preparation for life; education is life itself. (Inc.) He felt that learning took
place only when students had internalized what they had gained through experience and practiced it in
their own lives. In a progressive classroom, the teacher designs experiences for students with the idea
that through experience, students build knowledge and skills. A society of individuals conforming to
studying flashcards may be good, but a society of literate individuals consciously aware of why and
how the facts on the flashcards and in mass media can solve new problems is better.
A progressive classroom looks different, and a progressive teacher inspires unique thinking in
individual students differently, as well. Instead of being strict with a set curriculum and specific
subject to cover, teachers find their students present interests, abilities, and needs. Developing
individualized education plans based on student interests and

Is Leavitt A Living Thing
I think the point Leavitt is making is how life is a very complicated subject to try to understand. There
may not ever be a true definition to the word life . Like Leavitt said, One could always find
exceptions. There is still no true distinction from living and nonliving things. Yes, all living things are
supposed to possess the traits of being able to reproduce, maintain homeostasis, take in a form of
energy whether it s through direct food intake, or from sunlight, and so on and so forth. However,
sometimes one thing that we may consider a living thing might not contain all of these traits. One
example is a virus. Some people say it s alive others say it s not. It can respond to stimuli, has DNA to
pass to offspring, and other simple

The Character of the Husband in Raymond Carver s Story...
The Character of the Husband in Raymond Carver s Story Cathedral
In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the husband s view of blind men is changed when he encounters his
wife s long time friend, Robert. His narrow minded views and prejudice thoughts of one stereotype are
altered by a single experience he has with Robert. The husband is changed when he thinks he
personally sees the blind man s world. Somehow, the blind man breaks through all of the husband s
jealousy, incompetence for discernment, and prejudgments in a single moment of understanding.
From the beginning of his tale, the husband is quite bland on the subject of love. This is present when
he tells the part about his wife s first husband, even going as far as to say the ... Show more content on

His jealousy of Robert does become clear when the after dinner conversation never turns to the
husband:
For the most part, I just listened. . . they talked of things that had happened to them to them! these past
ten years. I waited in vain to hear my name on my wife s sweet lips: And then my dear husband came
into my life something like that. But I heard nothing of the sort. More talk of Robert. (351 352)
When the conversation has turned to him, he realizes how more bland the topic is and turns the
television on for entertainment, even though he knows he is being rude.
The husband first begins to open up to Robert when he watches with admiration as the blind man eats
his food. He begins to see Robert as an independent man that has learned to live life despite his
disability. There is a moment of connection when they all three finally begin the meal and he describes
them as if they were all the same, eating the same way, intently and seriously (351). The husband asks
to share a joint with Robert when his wife is not present, showing an indication of trust or maybe
cockiness (352). Though shocked of her husband s actions, the wife joins in when she returns. When
the wife has passed out between them, he commences to enjoying Robert s presence. When Robert

My Love For Music Education
Ever since my years in elementary school, I have had a love for music. This love developed in middle
school where the notion of teaching music came to me. In high school, I knew the profession that was
right for me was music education. After graduation, I began my journey to my calling by attending
Shepherd University.
During my time at Shepherd University, I excelled in music theory and aural skills. I received many
accolades for these skills, including an outstanding sophomore award and a music theory and aural
skills tutoring award. My hard work led me to pass most of my courses with little worry, however one
course had a reputation for its difficulty. This class was General Music Pedagogy and 21st Century
Technology. The professor, Dr. David Gonzol was passionate about Kodaly and Orff Schulwerk
method, and this reflected in the course. We had play parties, played on Orff instruments, taught mock
lessons and compiled a collection of folk songs for use in presenting rhythmic and melodic elements.
Through hard work and determination, I passed with an A. For the elementary placement of my
student teaching I was fortunate to work with Mrs. Lisa Terch at Eastern Elementary ... Show more

Sympathy In C. S. Lewis The Screwtape Letter
Evil is Not Worthy of Sympathy Could anyone feel sympathy for a groveling, sly demon? The demons
did have a hard job, but it was a despicable job of choice. In The Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis,
Screwtape busily instructs his nephew, Wormwood, who scrambles to trip up his patient, and bring the
man to hell. Throughout the book, everyone should plainly realize that neither Screwtape nor
Wormwood deserved pity or sympathy in the least. The first reason for this is that the demons
malevolence revealed itself plainly in the book. Secondly the demons hate for all that is good and
innocent reared its ugly head, snarling in the reader s face. Finally, the pitiable, vile, cruel plans of the
demons wiped out any lingering sympathetic feelings in the reader. The demons were purely cruelty.
In chapter eight and nine, the demons mention the trough periods through which Christians must
travel, and plotted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The long, dull, monotonous years of middle aged prosperity or middle aged diversity are excellent
campaigning weather. Screwtape wished to drag out the Christian s life and turn it into a purposeless,
repeating roll play. He wanted to slowly and despairingly tear the Christian from God and so tear him
from the only true hope and life and joy there is in this world. Do not be alarmed, though, because
God is stronger that the demons and He, having oddly destined these mere animals to life in His own
eternal world, has guarded them pretty effectively from the danger of feeling at home anywhere else.
Screwtape admits that God insures his children a place in his forever home and an everlasting joy.
Additionally, Screwtape refers to humans as mere animals. God created us in His image, which sets us
apart from the animals. Screwtape therefore was trying to degrade humankind, to lower us, and how
can any of us, humans, feel sympathy for one who so hates us

Physical Activity As A Student Nurse
Introduction
L.F., is a 74 year old female with limited mobility, and a history of falls (and at risk for falls), who was
diagnosed with age related osteoporosis, a lumbar compression fracture, collapsed vertebra, and she

Papa (2012) of the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association stated, Physical activity plays a

Other risk factors involve small stature, early menopause, underweight, low dietary calcium and
vitamin D, anorexia, malabsorption, history of smoking, extreme alcohol consumption, and
hyperparathyroidism (Crowther Radulewics McCance, 2012). Causes of osteoporosis vary, however
the developing process of the disease is the same, which occurs during the remodeling cycle of the
bone in which disruption of formation and resorption takes place (Crowther Radulewics McCance,
2012). Jarvis (2016) discusses that the bones most often affected, are those of the wrist, hip, and spine.
Perhaps L.F. s lumbar compression fracture, collapsed vertebra, and a history of falling is related to
her age related osteoporosis. Jarvis (2016) additionally described the principal issue of life with
osteoporosis is the increased risk of fractures.

Explain The Main Features Of The Articles Of Confederation
This chapter covers many topics such as the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and the Declaration of
Independence. Before the Constitution of the United States, the Articles of Confederation serve as the
first plan of a national government for the thirteen American states. (pg.17) The Articles allowed the
states to retain most political power. (pg.17) Other features of the document were that it preserved
state autonomy, guaranteed equal representation for the states, and it granted the central government
only a few important powers . (pg.17 18) However, it provided no separate executive branch and no
national courts, and it made the amendment almost impossible . (pg.18) It never really occurred to me
how important the Constitution is or its

Spike Lee uses the misc en scene and camera angles to demonstrate that racial tensions are still strong

Homeschozophreni Analysis Of The Film Homestretch
Introduction:
The film homestretch followed three homeless teens as they were struggling to stay in school,
graduate and build a future. The film included Roque, Kasey and Anthony who were fighting the
stereotypes of homelessness. They worked were working very hard to complete their education while
they were abandoned and left alone at an early age. The induvial who I will be discussing the theories
about is Roque. Roque Sanchez came to the U.S from the Mexico at the age of 5 with his family. His
father and mother were separated. His mother married someone else, while his father and Roque used
to move every now and then to stay away from the immigration officers in hopes of not getting
caught. Roque was forced to fend for himself and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory does describe the problem Roque was facing because, his biological family was broken
and that caused a lot of distress in Roque s life. It caused him to be homeless and have trouble in his
personal life. We also saw that after he moved in with his teacher Maria and formed a family he
started doing much better and was passionate about his studies. He also began to help around the
house and it helped him gain confidence.
Strengths perspective:
The other theory that I selected was the strengths perspective theory. The strengths perspective and
strengths based approaches offer service providers ways of working that focus on strengths, abilities
and potential rather than problems, deficits and pathologies (Stuart and rarr;, 2017). The strength
perspective teaches us that we should recognize the human capacity and self determination to work
hard to achieve their goals. In this perspective the social worker helps the client find their own
abilities to deal with their current situations.
The social worker would describe Roque s situation as someone who is having trouble in his life, but
he is willing to work hard to change his current situation. The social worker will intervene in this
situation with the attitude of collaborating with Roque to achieve what is best for him, the social
worker will help find some of the strengths, which are his will of doing better, and the help of

The first of these threats is Social Engineering. Social Engineering according to Social Engineer.org
(2013), is the act of influencing a person to accomplish goals that may or may not be in the target s
best interest. This may include obtaining information, gaining access, or getting the target to take
certain action. The employees themselves are the area of the system affected by this threat. Social
Engineering exploits their naivety. General lack of experience in recognizing this type of attack is a
major reason for its success. Education on what Social Engineering is and how to recognize attacks
coupled with company policies written, put into place, and enforced to prevent individuals from
divulging or even having access to certain information no matter the scenario is the recommended
course of action. Next is Denial of Service. According to Conklin, White, Williams, Davis, and

from operating normally. The attacker will attempt, through means of crashing the system, closing out

The Household Circle Of India
1.The household circle in France and that of India display numerous similarities. However, it may be
that such is the case in most countries where families are kept together. In India, distant relatives like
grandparents and cousins either settle collectively or maintain a near distance if living separately.
Indians are not as likely as Americans to relocate away from their families and, when it is
economically possible, prefer to stay in the same geographic area. Though it seems that the French
differentiate from that of my own culture due to that fact that they maintain relations with those of the
enlarged household till the third or fourth generation. Also, on page 60 Au Contraire mentions that the
extended kinsfolk gather together for a Sunday lunch. This is generally not seen in India as members
of the lengthened household may reside adjacent to each other, but do not meet as often as the French.
Nonetheless, as an Indian American, my society maintains most of the aspects of the Indian
community and a little of the typical American culture. The French concept of the state of a young
adult is similar to my cultural structure due to the fact that the youth gravitate to stay nearby parents
until marriage in order to remain under their watchful eye and to refrain from an involvement of
morally disliked activities. Similarly, as mentioned on page 60 of the book Au Contraire, in France,
children attend universities in close proximity to their homes and lean to disapprove of

G.B.F. is a movie that explores the life of a gay high school student but fails drastically to create a

contenders, Fawcett, Shley, and Caprice all want a Gay Best Friend to give them that edge over their

he s experimenting and needs to get it out of his system (G.B.F. 2013). He then proceeds to make out
with Tanner, even touching his crotch and legs in the process. Tanner has the physically remove
himself from the car in order to get Topher to stop. Later in the movie, Topher corners Brent in the

that he can fulfill some sort of fantasy or urge he has. Topher is obviously not straight, however, it is
unclear whether he is gay, bisexual, fluid, or pansexual. Either way, Topher is a member of the LGBT
community and his actions portray them in a horrible light. Topher sexually assaults two men in this
movie without their consent, making it seem like closeted members of the LGBT community are only
horny and violent. For a movie that is supposed to display the LGBT community is a positive light,
G.B.F. does a horrible job portraying Topher as a questioning teenager trying to figure out his
sexuality. The producers could have used Topher to show the side of the LGBT community that is in
the process of questioning their sexuality and experimenting, but they instead choose to only show

Adversity Has the Effect of Eliciting Talents Which in...
Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain
dormant. What the Roman poet Horace was saying was that when there is an obstacle in our way, our
true colors will radiate. I could not agree more. When we as human beings feel passionate about
achieving a goal, we may learn something new of ourselves, maybe a new trait that we did not know
we possessed, when we reach new heights we did not know we could push ourselves towards.
Challenges are similar to tests. Challenges are faced every day, but how we respond to them
determines how strong we really are. Prime examples are superheroes and students that move
dramatically. Superheroes know the difference between right and wrong. The whole ... Show more

His or her enemy, or adversity, will be a number of things, mainly revolving around worry. They may
worry about if people there will like them, or want to be friends with them, whether or not they will fit
in; things of that nature. If that student encompasses themselves in a fortress of solitude then that
would show that they are not a very strong or confident person. In turn, someone will notice this and
possibly, out of pity, approach them and realize that they are comfortable and they stick around with
them to be polite. However, if that student is the opposite, then maybe they will try out for a team and
show off their skills or lack of and the other students will see him or her and praise them for being so
assertive and hopefully befriend the new kid after proving that they are very outgoing and easy to get
along with. When something is in your way, how you respond to the situation makes you, you. If you
have never been put in an uncomfortable position then you will not necessarily know how you would
respond, so you do not know that side of yourself. Roman could not have said it any better. Adversity
does in fact awaken undeveloped or inactive capacities. To fully understand how you would act under
harsh conditions you have to be placed in that situation. Like I stated, when there is an obstacle in our

Transitioning Into High School
The effect of choosing which high school a student will be attending will last longer than the four
years. The decision follows the student into college, continuing their habits set in high school. The
more basic question is whether they will attend a same sex or co ed school. The different types of high
schools do not only effect the 9 12th grade experience but effects the behavior of students
transitioning into college classrooms. This is a common debate in my house: whether it is helpful to
attend same sex high schools or not. My sister attended a same sex school and her college professor
noticed before she could tell him. Because of her active participation and constant hand raising, her
teacher asked if she attended a single sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It took me a few years of high school to be comfortable raising my hand in class. I was too scared to
ask something dumb, or answer a question wrong that I found myself and other girls asking each other
questions before asking the teacher, said Jessica Recker, senior at Perrysburg high school. Many co ed
schools find it necessary to have a talk to males about how to treat female classmates and how to
behave themselves while also teachings girls how to properly treat their make classmates. Single sex
schools communicate more on how to handle the drama that may occur when putting same sex
students together. Transitioning from high school to college is a complex process for students from all
schools. It s complexity is rooted not only in choosing the gender of the school but rather the size,
environment, distance and other factors that go into determining where these new adults will go for
their next four years. Although the college atmosphere is a new feel for all incoming freshmen, the
habits and behavior students learn from high school tend to stick with them when they enter classes at
universities. The effect of going to a same sex high school can show differently in all students at the
start of college. The same goes for co ed graduating

The Negative Speech On Famine And Drought
Introduction: (Charlotte)
We would like to begin by thanking the United Nations for giving us this opportunity to speak. Joining
me today are Julia Antony, Ian Rose, and Ryan Amer. We are here to discuss the large topic of famine
and drought. Drought is defined as, A long period of time during which there is very little or no rain
(First picture). These two problems alone are some of the largest overarching issues that our world is
facing right now and have been for centuries. At this stage, no one can ignore the fact that 110 people
have died in the last 48 hours at the hand of famine and drought. (Second picture) Not to mention that
in Somalia, more than 900,000 children are malnourished; that alone is more than the entire
population of children in Connecticut. Now over to you, Julia. *transition to next slide. Body 1: (Julia)
Thanks Charlotte. Extreme rain loss in areas all over the world causes intense droughts. Multiple
complications occur when water is no longer abundant. One of the most severe conflicts caused by
this terrible drought is famine. Famine, described as an extreme scarcity of food, affects over 6.2
million people in Somalia alone. We are still trying to work out how we ended up here, what we
missed, what we did wrong , announced UNICEF senior nutrition manager Peter Harris. ( A Famine
We Made , researchIT CT) Additionally, if not helped, it is said that over 100,000 Somalis will die in
the next few weeks. Little aid is being received in this region,

about the African American youth. Specifically, about their struggles, and experiences. Tatum at first
introduces this essay by pointing out that if you ever walk into a mixed race cafeteria you ll always see
that group of black kids sitting together. She brings this point back up many times throughout the text
and explains it. Tatum explains that puberty plays a big role in this she says that As children enter

Richard Wright and William Faulkner both examine the psychologies of excluded members of society.
While in Native Son, Wright studies someone oppressed and downtrodden beneath society, Faulkner
looks at a family of outsiders cast far away from a common community in As I Lay Dying. For both, a
central question becomes the function of their characters minds in relation to one another, and to
reality. Through different approaches, both Wright and Faulkner conduct modernist explorations of the
social outcast s interiority. To accomplish this, each author s narrative voice traverses the gradient
from realism to experimental fragmentation, Wright constructing a vertical consciousness, articulate
and omniscient regarding Bigger s psychological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gap between what Bigger understands about himself and what the narrative voice can
comprehend creates dramatic irony, especially when Bigger is confronted with Jan and Mary s
inexplicably friendly behavior. Wright s descriptions of Jan and Mary make their good intentions clear
to all but Bigger, and therefore sets up an unequal relationship between Bigger and the reader. He is
now at the mercy not only of his own impulses, his employer s wishes, and the law of white society,
but also of Wright and his audience. The vertical consciousness that allows us to see so clearly what
Bigger cannot, supports the deterministic trap that Wright has set for him. His environment has
saddled him with unsatisfied urges, and now Wright has made him the victim of chance. In Mary s
claim that she wants to see how black people live in Chicago, Bigger experiences the deep sense of
exclusion that Wright describes in How Bigger Was Born (518). Then, in seeing Mary s white robed
mother at her bedroom door, he encounters the corresponding feeling of looking at things with a
painful and unwarrantable nakedness, the understanding of his total vulnerability, which forces him to
kill Mary (518). His fate is sealed. With this dramatic irony, produced by a kind of vertical
consciousness, Wright has proven to what extent the black man s agency, his interiority, is warped by
external forces and placed in

Long Beach Cemetery Essay
1923, amid all the fighting over oil and a place for a mausoleum, a new model cemetery was

Role Of General Practitioners And Primary Care Providers
2. Primary Care/General Practice Role of general practitioners/primary care providers in diagnosing
dementia Primary care physicians (PCP) play a crucial role in dementia diagnosis. Older patients
receive healthcare primarily from their general practitioners (GPs). [51, 52] Most patients and carers
prefer their GPs to be the first source of professional help when dealing with dementia. [53 55] The
Australian guidelines advocate early diagnosis by timely exploration of symptoms raised by patients
and carers. [14] It would be reasonable for GPs to initiate the diagnostic process for suspected
dementia cases before referring to specialists or memory clinics for confirmation of diagnosis.
Following a formal diagnosis, GPs are expected to provide ongoing management and follow up, with
adequate monitoring of efficacy and side effects of dementia modulating drugs; detection, prevention
and treatment of dementia complications such as Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of
Dementia (BPSD), falls, malnutrition; and appropriate referrals to support services. [56 60] The
disclosure of dementia diagnosis should be a shared responsibility between specialists and GPs, with
GPs exploring patients perceptions about symptoms and initiating tentative discussions about possible
diagnoses prior to referral to specialists and provide ongoing emotional and practical support post
diagnosis. [61] Although discussion of advanced care planning, legal issues and driving may be raised

First Woman Leader of a Muslim Nation
..In pain you shall bring forth children, and you shall be dependent on your husband, and he shall rule
over you. (Genesis 3 v 16.) Religion is almost exclusively to blame for how women are treated in
Islam. Benazir Bhutto lead the movement from believing women would be nothing without men, to a
woman can lead a country and her people. Religion tells us that the woman is created for the man, and
that she shall serve him, treat him as if he was a God. We also learn from the bible that the single
purpose of a woman is continuing on the males lineage. The bible, along with religion, attempts to
destroy the science of birth. Every man born, was born to a woman, and is almost entirely dependent
on the mother for most of their adolescent years. The bible tries to teach that woman would be nothing
without man as the first woman was supposedly born of the first man, from an extra rib. In a debate
with religion, women s rights are almost always ignored, or even denied from the concept that a
woman must serve a man. (Ratcliffe 2012) This is the logic that is the reason women in Islam, still do
not have many rights. These women are perpetuated into looking as if they carried some right, but
when you look at the facts, a woman is not trusted with most decisions in Islam. Let alone to be
responsible for the decisions that are the future of an entire country. It was not until Bhutto was
elected Prime Minister of Islam that women had any political say in the country at all.

deciding which cases to hear. According to Neubauer Meinhold (1991), These courts are called
specialized federal court because they are authorized to hear only a limited range of cases (p. 64). The

the truth to Mr. Keating in front of authority that could get him expelled. This implies that Todd grew
to believe that Mr. Keating was a friend that he could open up to. Otherwise, he would have never

Basics Journalism
The term journalism has taken on many definitions in the past two decades. It is no longer about
television, print and radio content, but the digitalization of content. Today s journalists are expected to
go beyond traditional journalistic practices. They need to know how to be experts in digital reporting
and publishing. By providing tips on how to organize data digitally, build websites, build an audience,
create video, audio and photographed content, editing and publishing this content, Briggs covers all
areas of digital journalism. Briggs book, consisting of 11 chapters, is divided into three sections
including basics, multimedia storytelling and editing/decision making in journalism.
UNIT 1: BASICS OF JOURNALISM
News companies started using digital technologies nearly 20 years ago. This required professionals in
the industry to change their traditional practices and evolve to the new way of producing content. This
change has not been immediate, but according to Briggs, online technologies allow us to gather
information better, communicate better and create better journalism.
All journalists should have a basic understanding of web design including HTML, CSS and XML
coding. Those who know learn how do this have control over how information is displayed and
distributed on the Web.
All journalists should have a blog. A blog should consist of a good headline, several links, photos and

The Fascination Of War Literature
War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there are no
rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is endless. My
fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what he went through in
the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when
they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at war, but when
they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have the strength to tell that story again.
One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because
as they are telling the story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of
telling stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a
story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the
trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their
trauma instead of trying to figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because
of the meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a
solider himself. When one should read about war literature they should take into consideration of how
hard it might have been for the person to talk

Witches, Sorcerers, And Shamans
Witches, sorcerers, and shamans are all different terms used to describe persons associated with other
worldly powers. Cautionary tales have been written about them as far back as the Old Testament and
in Homer s Odyssey. While almost every human culture has possessed the theory of a witch, the most
well known witch trials are the ones from the late 15th century to the late 17th century in Europe.
Many aspects of European life, such as art and politics, were splitting away from the Church. Even on
the cusp of a scientific revolution, the belief in witches and the supernatural did not disappear. In this
paper, I will argue that although there is no clear consensus about what exactly defines a witch ,
scholars agree that witch trials were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second article reviewed, Anthropological and Historical Approaches to Witchcraft: Potential for
New Collaboration?, was written by British historian Ronald Hutton in the early 21st Century. In his
writings, he discusses how different professionals, such as historians, sociologists, and
anthropologists, have all taken different approaches when studying witchcraft. He proposes setting a
model for witchcraft and using a set model to study witches and magic across the globe. He argues
that the studies done have looked at magic and witches from too narrow a lens. Hutton suggests
comparing two different societies that have had prominent histories with witches, such as European
and African witchcraft, and comparing them against one another. Hutton suggests that these two
groups have a very different history, but witchcraft reflected struggles common to all societies.
Another article discusses the domino effect of the weather and it s impact on the agricultural economy
of the time and how this explains the rise in witch trials in early modern Europe. Witchcraft, Weather,
and Economic Growth in Renaissance Europe by Emily Oster in 2004, takes an economical approach
on witchcraft and attributes the rise in prosecutions as a model of scapegoating provoked by the
deteriorating economy at the time. Oster presents findings indicating that if the average temperature of

with the pain that they did to them. When you put something on the internet, you can never get it off
the internet. When you put something on the internet , can t get rid of it. Yeah, you can delete stuff, but
it won t totally go off the internet. Because there always a place where you can find you deleted. Then
you will get in big trouble for what you did. So you should never put something bad on there then
delete because people can find it. Why is technology bad for you? Why it is not the beast for you
because electronics our something that you like to look at it all day. The screens on your phones, Ipads
and computers our not that good for your brain. That is why you should not be on your phone or any
type of electronic at all for a long period of time. This is why you should be on your phone, ipad and

Catherine Troup Oral History
1. Oral History has gone through a complex evolution in the professionalization of history. Green and
Troup articulate that from the 1960 s on, oral history became known as unreliable and tainted by
personal subjectivity. However, at the same time, oral history saw a revival with the arrival of New
History. Green and Troup articulate, history from bellow embraced oral history as a means for
rewriting history from the perspective of the marginalized or oppressed. This opens up the discussion
of individual agency. Which is more important in terms of oral histories, the agency of the subject or
the interviewer? 2. In Anna Green and Katherine Troup s Houses of History, 1970 s historian Ron
Grele suggested that historians needed to understand

Examples Of Non Traditional Families In The Bean Trees
Miles Cruger 11/7/2017 ALA Pd. 7
Non Traditional Families in
The Bean Trees
Families come in many forms, and family may not be considered traditional can still have a deep
seated relationship, much of the time more so than traditional families. Barbara Kingsolver s novel
The Bean Trees makes non traditional families very prevalent, showing their supportive and functional
nature. A traditional family is a family that has a mother, father, and children, whereas a non
traditional family varies from that set. Barbara shows the reader that non traditional families can
function and support the members of the family just as well, if not better than traditional families.
Alice and Taylor have a tight knit and close relationship, one that is supportive at its nature. Alice has
supported Taylor is so many ways throughout her lifetime. On page 2, we are told that When Taylor
was a young child, she would catch small fish, and Alice would act like it was huge, and cook them up
for dinner. This is a great example of how they support each other. Without anyone else, Alice is
boosting Taylor s self confidence, and supporting her, arguably better than traditional families, like all
mothers should. They function like most families, even though all they have is each other. On page 5,
Alice consoles Taylor on techniques for getting the job at the hospital. This

The Roots Of The Current Global Food Crisis
The Roots of the Current Global Food Crisis Today, the economic state of our world is highly
connected and international. Therefore, the global market influences food accessibility and hunger on
an exceedingly large scale. The global food economy exists within a complex system that has
widespread dire consequences if it finds itself in a crisis like we are currently seeing. While it is a
common perception that the global food crisis is occurring due to shortages in supply and increasing
demand, nearly a billion people are now malnourished or starving due to financial speculation and a
legacy of events put into motion by the industrialized world. The high price of food has the largest
impact on global hunger and those in the developing world are most vulnerable to food crises
exposure. Because people need food to survive, it will require the interpretation of a very large
number of people and opinions to fully resolve this problem some of whom do not exist yet to speak
for themselves. The myriad of international stakeholders in this issue have the ability to self organize
and adapt based on their experiences and this will produce emergent outcomes and nonlinear behavior
among the global food economy turning the coordination of a resolution into a continuous project.
This paper will start by addressing how deregulation of commodity futures speculation has
manipulated spikes in food prices in the market. Secondly, this paper will investigate other arguments
that explain

Marissa Fessenden s Article
Hello Class and Professor
This paper will describe Marissa Fessenden s article, The Frustrating Complexity of Adult Acne. I
chose this topic, because acne is a major concern for many people and is one of the most common
dermatologic conditions, affecting millions of individuals in the United States. I personally suffered
with this condition from the age of thirteen until my early thirties. Another reason I chose this article is
for my wife, whom still suffers from acne today. If you ever had acne or known someone who has,
you probably understand the levels of stress and anxiety that comes from this skin condition.
A common misconception is acne only happens during adolescence years and once you become an
adult, pimples begins to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the main medications, like spironolactone, physicians prescribe for adult hormonal acne was
first used in women with polycystic ovary syndrome, but it wasn t originally intended for them, says
Fessenden. Spironolactone is used to treat hypertension and patients with heart failure. Also it s a
diuretic that causes more frequent urination without draining the salts from the body to function
normal. Studies have shown this drug to not be a good diuretic, however, it s proven to lessen some of
the symptoms of PCOS. Arash Mostaghami, a physician specializing in dermatology and internal
medicine at Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts explains, Spironolactone has
many different effects on the body, including alterations in the way some hormones are made and
processed . Fessenden continues to say, combining spironolactone with the other mainstay for
hormonal acne treatment, birth control pills, will give about 60 percent of adult women notable
improvement . Also, this drug affects the testosterone in men and the production of androgen in
women. Androgen is a hormone that tells the skin s sweat glands to produce more sebum, that
consequently contributes to acne. Spironolactone suppresses the excess testosterone and blocks the

North Korea s Drug Crackdown
In the beginning of November, President Donald Trump will be traveling to Asia because of the rising
tensions over North Koreas nuclear and missile programs. During his trip to Asia, he plans on seeing
the President of the Philippines to possibly discuss human rights, rule of law and important
developments. Donald Trump has praised the Philippine leader over the phone in May for doing an
unbelievable job on the drug problem. Although, Duterte s drug crackdown led to thousands of people
being killed. Since the President of the United States praised him over the phone he has said that he
would deal with U.S. President in the most righteous way. This is important because this could mean
future cooperation, interdependence and mutual understanding ... Show more content on

Speaking from a liberal point of understanding, the development of international institutions is very
vital. Most powerful states have relied on international institutions and economic interdependence. I
believe this because international institutions are one of the most important efforts for the achievement
of world peace and possibly stop North Koreans leader from making terrorist threats. International
institutions can set standards of behavior and verify compliance and resolve disputes. Also, the
economic interdependence has been a huge key factor in the cooperation and peace of those States.
Many of the states that are considered speaking upon the North Koreas dangerous efforts against them
are States that have been trading goods for decades. They are all relying on each other for something
because each cannot produce efficiently for themselves. We are worried. If anything can go wrong, it
will go wrong, A nuclear war is totally unacceptable to everybody (Duterte). Creating a stronger
international institution to set standards of behavior, disputes and verify compliance would be virtuous
in halting a war. In the long run, I hope we can expect some type of cooperation soon between North
Korea because the United States is not the only State that is

  • 2. Depiction Of Gladiator A True Depiction of a Gladiator There have been many movies that try to demonstrate how gladiators trained for their violent combat against other gladiators, in hope to win and keep their lives at the end of their gruesome battles. Although, the 1960 s movie Spartacus, with Kirk Douglas, had a few differences demonstrating how actual gladiators trained in Rome, it still contains more accurate scenes displaying their intense training. The movie showed the kind of training schools they were in, the armor used, and the styles of fighting that they practiced to prepare these men, as they did hundreds of years ago in Rome. To begin with, around 264 BC the gladiator games were introduced in Rome, called Munera. These games were initially hosted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Rome, there were around 30 different gladiators that were experts with the different shields, weapons, and armor. There were the elite gladiators, who were freed and decided to remain as gladiators. Then there were heavily armed gladiators that had a lot of armor and were protected, but had very little movement when fighting. Finally, there were the lightly armed gladiators, they had little to no armor, but had the ability to move more freely when fighting. The armor used during their practices was wooden swords and shields instead of real equipment, for the protection of the gladiators, the soldiers, and trainers who worked there. When it was time for a match the gladiators would use real swords, shields, and sometimes armor to battle (Types of Gladiators). The gladiators also were used to represent strong gods by the way they were dressed and the weapons they used. For instance, there were unusual weapons, such as a trident, used by the god Neptune, and the use of a net to follow the water god theme (Retiarri). Unlike in actual gladiator schools, in the movie, it did not seem to have the men separated by their specialty but they all train together. Spartacus, and the other gladiators did train using wooden swords and shields. There was a scene were Spartacus had to actually fight till the death with another gladiator from the school, because some wealthy government men and their wives came to Ludi Gladiatorium and wanted to see a fight. They paid a high percentage of money to make this happen, since it was not allowed to fight these gladiators till death in the schools. Like Leavitt said, One could always find exceptions. There is still no true distinction from living and nonliving things. Yes, all living things are supposed to possess the traits of being able to reproduce, maintain homeostasis, take in a form of energy whether it s through direct food intake, or from sunlight, and so on and so forth. In high school, I knew the profession that was right for me was music education. After graduation, I began my journey to my calling by attending Shepherd University. During my time at Shepherd University, I excelled in music theory and aural skills. I received many accolades for these skills, including an outstanding sophomore award and a music theory and aural skills tutoring award. My hard work led me to pass most of my courses with little worry, however one course had a reputation for its difficulty. This class was General Music Pedagogy and 21st Century Technology. The professor, Dr. David Gonzol was passionate about Kodaly and Orff Schulwerk method, and this reflected in the course. We had play parties, played on Orff instruments, taught mock lessons and compiled a collection of folk songs for use in presenting rhythmic and melodic elements. The demons did have a hard job, but it was a despicable job of choice. In The Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis, Screwtape busily instructs his nephew, Wormwood, who scrambles to trip up his patient, and bring the man to hell. Throughout the book, everyone should plainly realize that neither Screwtape nor Wormwood deserved pity or sympathy in the least. The first reason for this is that the demons malevolence revealed itself plainly in the book. Secondly the demons hate for all that is good and innocent reared its ugly head, snarling in the reader s face. Finally, the pitiable, vile, cruel plans of the demons wiped out any lingering sympathetic feelings in the reader. The demons were purely cruelty. However, it may be that such is the case in most countries where families are kept together. Indians are not as likely as Americans to relocate away from their families and, when it is economically possible, prefer to stay in the same geographic area. Though it seems that the French differentiate from that of my own culture due to that fact that they maintain relations with those of the enlarged household till the third or fourth generation. Also, on page 60 Au Contraire mentions that the extended kinsfolk gather together for a Sunday lunch. This is generally not seen in India as members of the lengthened household may reside adjacent to each other, but do not meet as often as the French. Nonetheless, as an Indian American, my society maintains most of the aspects of the Indian community and a little of the typical American culture. The French concept of the state of a young adult is similar to my cultural structure due to the fact that the youth gravitate to stay nearby parents until marriage in order to remain under their watchful eye and to refrain from an involvement of morally disliked activities. While in Native Son, Wright studies someone oppressed and downtrodden beneath society, Faulkner looks at a family of outsiders cast far away from a common community in As I Lay Dying. For both, a central question becomes the function of their characters minds in relation to one another, and to reality. Through different approaches, both Wright and Faulkner conduct modernist explorations of the social outcast s interiority. To accomplish this, each author s narrative voice traverses the gradient from realism to experimental fragmentation, Wright constructing a vertical consciousness, articulate and omniscient regarding Bigger s psychological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gap between what Bigger understands about himself and what the narrative voice can comprehend creates dramatic irony, especially when Bigger is confronted with Jan and Mary s inexplicably friendly behavior. Wright s descriptions of Jan and Mary make their good intentions clear to all but Bigger, and therefore sets up an unequal relationship between Bigger and the reader. He is now at the mercy not only of his own impulses, his employer s wishes, and the law of white society, but also of Wright and his audience. The vertical consciousness that allows us to see so clearly what Bigger cannot, supports the deterministic trap that Wright has set for him. His environment has saddled him with unsatisfied urges, and now Wright has made him the victim of chance. In Mary s claim that she wants to see how black people live in Chicago, Bigger experiences the deep sense of exclusion that Wright describes in How Bigger Was Born (518). Then, in seeing Mary s white robed mother at her bedroom door, he encounters the corresponding feeling of looking at things with a painful and unwarrantable nakedness, the understanding of his total vulnerability, which forces him to kill Mary (518). His fate is sealed. With this dramatic irony, produced by a kind of vertical consciousness, Wright has proven to what extent the black man s agency, his interiority, is warped by external forces and placed in ... Primary Care/General Practice Role of general practitioners/primary care providers in diagnosing dementia Primary care physicians (PCP) play a crucial role in dementia diagnosis. Older patients receive healthcare primarily from their general practitioners (GPs). [51, 52] Most patients and carers prefer their GPs to be the first source of professional help when dealing with dementia. [53 55] The Australian guidelines advocate early diagnosis by timely exploration of symptoms raised by patients and carers. [14] It would be reasonable for GPs to initiate the diagnostic process for suspected dementia cases before referring to specialists or memory clinics for confirmation of diagnosis. Following a formal diagnosis, GPs are expected to provide ongoing management and follow up, with adequate monitoring of efficacy and side effects of dementia modulating drugs; detection, prevention and treatment of dementia complications such as Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD), falls, malnutrition; and appropriate referrals to support services. [56 60] The disclosure of dementia diagnosis should be a shared responsibility between specialists and GPs, with GPs exploring patients perceptions about symptoms and initiating tentative discussions about possible diagnoses prior to referral to specialists and provide ongoing emotional and practical support post diagnosis. • 28. First Woman Leader of a Muslim Nation ..In pain you shall bring forth children, and you shall be dependent on your husband, and he shall rule over you. (Genesis 3 v 16.) Religion is almost exclusively to blame for how women are treated in Islam. Benazir Bhutto lead the movement from believing women would be nothing without men, to a woman can lead a country and her people. Religion tells us that the woman is created for the man, and that she shall serve him, treat him as if he was a God. We also learn from the bible that the single purpose of a woman is continuing on the males lineage. The bible, along with religion, attempts to destroy the science of birth. Every man born, was born to a woman, and is almost entirely dependent on the mother for most of their adolescent years. The bible tries to teach that woman would be nothing without man as the first woman was supposedly born of the first man, from an extra rib. In a debate with religion, women s rights are almost always ignored, or even denied from the concept that a woman must serve a man. (Ratcliffe 2012) This is the logic that is the reason women in Islam, still do not have many rights. These women are perpetuated into looking as if they carried some right, but when you look at the facts, a woman is not trusted with most decisions in Islam. Let alone to be responsible for the decisions that are the future of an entire country. It was not until Bhutto was elected Prime Minister of Islam that women had any political say in the country at all. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Fascination Of War Literature War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there are no rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is endless. My fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what he went through in the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at war, but when they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have the strength to tell that story again. One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because as they are telling the story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of telling stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their trauma instead of trying to figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because of the meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a solider himself. He proposes setting a model for witchcraft and using a set model to study witches and magic across the globe. He argues that the studies done have looked at magic and witches from too narrow a lens. Hutton suggests comparing two different societies that have had prominent histories with witches, such as European and African witchcraft, and comparing them against one another. Hutton suggests that these two groups have a very different history, but witchcraft reflected struggles common to all societies. Therefore, the global market influences food accessibility and hunger on an exceedingly large scale. The global food economy exists within a complex system that has widespread dire consequences if it finds itself in a crisis like we are currently seeing. While it is a common perception that the global food crisis is occurring due to shortages in supply and increasing demand, nearly a billion people are now malnourished or starving due to financial speculation and a legacy of events put into motion by the industrialized world. The high price of food has the largest impact on global hunger and those in the developing world are most vulnerable to food crises exposure. Because people need food to survive, it will require the interpretation of a very large number of people and opinions to fully resolve this problem some of whom do not exist yet to speak for themselves. The myriad of international stakeholders in this issue have the ability to self organize and adapt based on their experiences and this will produce emergent outcomes and nonlinear behavior among the global food economy turning the coordination of a resolution into a continuous project. This paper will start by addressing how deregulation of commodity futures speculation has manipulated spikes in food prices in the market. Secondly, this paper will investigate other arguments that explain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I chose this topic, because acne is a major concern for many people and is one of the most common dermatologic conditions, affecting millions of individuals in the United States. I personally suffered with this condition from the age of thirteen until my early thirties. Another reason I chose this article is for my wife, whom still suffers from acne today. If you ever had acne or known someone who has, you probably understand the levels of stress and anxiety that comes from this skin condition. A common misconception is acne only happens during adolescence years and once you become an adult, pimples begins to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spironolactone is used to treat hypertension and patients with heart failure. Also it s a diuretic that causes more frequent urination without draining the salts from the body to function normal. Studies have shown this drug to not be a good diuretic, however, it s proven to lessen some of the symptoms of PCOS. Arash Mostaghami, a physician specializing in dermatology and internal medicine at Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts explains, Spironolactone has many different effects on the body, including alterations in the way some hormones are made and processed . Fessenden continues to say, combining spironolactone with the other mainstay for hormonal acne treatment, birth control pills, will give about 60 percent of adult women notable improvement . Also, this drug affects the testosterone in men and the production of androgen in women. Androgen is a hormone that tells the skin s sweat glands to produce more sebum, that consequently contributes to acne. Spironolactone suppresses the excess testosterone and blocks the ... Donald Trump has praised the Philippine leader over the phone in May for doing an unbelievable job on the drug problem. Although, Duterte s drug crackdown led to thousands of people being killed. Since the President of the United States praised him over the phone he has said that he would deal with U.S. President in the most righteous way. This is important because this could mean future cooperation, interdependence and mutual understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Speaking from a liberal point of understanding, the development of international institutions is very vital. Most powerful states have relied on international institutions and economic interdependence. I believe this because international institutions are one of the most important efforts for the achievement of world peace and possibly stop North Koreans leader from making terrorist threats. International institutions can set standards of behavior and verify compliance and resolve disputes. Also, the economic interdependence has been a huge key factor in the cooperation and peace of those States. Many of the states that are considered speaking upon the North Koreas dangerous efforts against them are States that have been trading goods for decades. They are all relying on each other for something because each cannot produce efficiently for themselves. We are worried. If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong, A nuclear war is totally unacceptable to everybody (Duterte). Creating a stronger international institution to set standards of behavior, disputes and verify compliance would be virtuous in halting a war. In the long run, I hope we can expect some type of cooperation soon between North Korea because the United States is not the only State that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
