Erica Riggs completed her Teacher Academy internship from 2007 to 2008. She interned in several classrooms from second grade to high school, working with different mentors. The experience inspired her and reinforced her goal of becoming a teacher. It taught her that teaching requires preparation, skills, and the ability to engage students. She hopes to bring fun and creativity to the classroom as a teacher and be a favorite among her future students.

27. What is Teaching? Teaching is more work than I thought. It takes a lot of preparation and skill to get in front of a classroom and teach. Teaching is being confident and taking charge of the classroom. Keeping all of the students’ attention is difficult. When I become a teacher I hope to bring fun and new ideas into the classroom. I want to be every student’s favorite teacher.
