Generation of Higher Number of Voltage Levels by Stacking Inverters of Lower ...
This paper proposes a new method of generating higher number of levels in the voltage waveform by stacking multilevel converters with lower voltage space vector structures. An important feature of this stacked structure is the use of low voltage devices while attaining higher number of levels. This will find extensive applications in electric vehicles since direct battery drive is possible. The voltages of all the capacitors in the structure can be controlled within a switching cycle using the switching state redundancies (pole voltage redundancies). This helps in reducing the capacitor size. Also, the capacitor voltages can be balanced irrespective of modulation index and load power factor. To verify the concept experimentally, a 9-level inverter is developed by stacking two 5-level inverters and an induction motor is run using V/f control scheme. Both steady state and transient results are presented.

Photovoltaic (PV)/battery hybrid power units have attracted vast research interests in recent years. For the conventional distributed power generation systems with PV/battery hybrid power units, two independent power converters, including a unidirectional dc_dc converter and a bidirectional converter, are normally required. This paper proposes an energy management and control strategy for the PV/battery hybrid distributed power generation systems with only one integrated three-port power converter. As the integrated bidirectional converter shares power switches with the full-bridge dc_dc converter, the power density and the reliability of the system is enhanced. The corresponding energy management and control strategy are proposed to realize the power balance among three ports in different operating scenarios, which comprehensively takes both the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) benefit and the battery charging/discharging management into consideration. The simulations are conducted using the Matlab/Simulink software to verify the operation performance of the proposed PV/battery hybrid distributed power generation system with the corresponding control algorithms, where the MPPT control loop, the battery charging/discharging management loop are enabled accordingly in different operating scenarios.
Power Quality Analysis and Enhancement of Grid Connected Solar Energy System
In recent years, renewable energy resources are utilized to meet the growing energy demand. The integration of renewable energy resources with the grid incorporates power electronic converters for conversion of energy. These power electronic converters introduce power quality issues such as a harmonics, voltage regulation etc. Hence, to improve the power quality issues, this work proposes a new control strategy for a grid interconnected solar system. In this proposed work, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) scheme has been used to obtain maximum power from the solar system and DC/DC converter is implemented to maintain a constant DC voltage. An active filtering method is utilized to improve the power quality of the grid connected solar system. The proposed system is validated through dynamic simulation using MATLAB/Simulink Power system toolbox and results are delivered to validate the effectiveness of the work.
Reliability evaluation of MPPT based interleaved boost converter for PV system
The demand for power supply and depletion of the conventional energy sources are increasing drastically. So to overcome this problem, the best alternative power generation for conventional fossil fuel is Photovoltaic solar cell based system because of its advantage of pollution free and its availability in abundance with free of cost. In the MPPT based PV system the converters are the most sensitive part. Therefore to provide uninterrupted power supply without compromising the quality of power, reliability evaluation of interleaved boost converter becomes necessary. MATLAB/Simulink is used for the simulation studies and to determine the power losses of various components of the converter which is used in calculating the failure rates and reliability of the interleaved boost converter. Reliability studies of IBC have not been studied much. However there exists few literature in which reliability expression has been developed using Markov technique which is a more complex method as compare to Reliability Block Diagram (RBD). Therefore this paper proposes reliability modeling and reliability evaluation of Interleaved boost converter in MPPT based photo-voltaic system by using simple RBD method.

The presence of harmonics in solar Photo Voltaic (PV) energy conversion system results in deterioration of power quality. To address such issue, this paper aims to investigate the elimination of harmonics in a solar fed cascaded fifteen level inverter with aid of Proportional Integral (PI), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Fuzzy Logic (FL) based controllers. Unlike other techniques, the proposed FLC based approach helps in obtaining reduced harmonic distortions that intend to an enhancement in power quality. In addition to the power quality improvement, this paper also proposed to provide output voltage regulation in terms of maintaining voltage and frequency at the inverter output end in compatible with the grid connection requirements. The simulations are performed in the MATLAB / Simulink environment for solar fed cascaded 15 level inverter incorporating PI, ANN and FL based controllers. To exhibit the proposed technique, a 3 kWp photovoltaic plant coupled to multilevel inverter is designed and hardware is demonstrated. All the three techniques are experimentally investigated with the measurement of power quality metrics along with establishing output voltage regulation.

In the low voltage based renewable systems like PV and Fuel cell applications, the step-up of the output voltage to drive the loads is essential. For this, the integration of switched-capacitor (SC) units with the dc-ac converters will have the potential advantages like improved efficiency, optimal switching devices, small size of passive elements (L and C) as compared with traditional two-stage conversion system (dc/dc converter and dc/ac converter). This paper focuses on a new family of step-up multilevel inverter topologies with switched capacitor integration with dual input voltage sources. With the flexibility of 2 dc sources and switching capacitor circuits, four different topologies have been suggested in this paper with features of high voltage gain, reduced component count, reduced voltage stress and self-voltage balancing of the capacitor while achieving a higher number of levels. A detailed analysis of proposed multilevel inverters has been analyzed with the symmetrical and asymmetrical mode of operations and the associated gain, the number of levels, and other performance indices are presented. An in-depth study of all the topologies has been accomplished in this paper with several comparative studies in terms of components count, voltage gain and cost. The effectiveness and practicability of the suggested topology with 13 level output voltage has been explained by the experimental results obtained from a scale down prototype.

In this paper; a variable dc link based novel multilevel inverter (MLI) topology is proposed. This proposed topology comprises two variable dc links and a modified H-bridge unit. This new single-phase topology offers advantages such as reduction in count of switches; gate drivers and dc sources while simultaneously improving the power quality. The proposed topology has been analyzed for both symmetric and asymmetric modes of operation. A comparative study of the proposed topology with some recent MLI topologies has been presented. The comparative study indicates that the proposed topology requires less number of dc sources; switches and driver circuits as compared to other topologies. The proposed topology has been simulated for 31- level asymmetric configuration in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment to verify the proper operation of proposed topology. Harmonic analysis was also performed for 31-level inverter which showed significant reduction in the total harmonic distortion (THD) for phase voltage and current waveforms. The proposed topology is suitable for low voltage applications such as standalone photovoltaic (PV) systems and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).

A multi-cell hybrid 21-Level multilevel inverter is proposed in this paper. The proposed topology includes two-unit; an H-bridge is cascaded with a modified K-type unit to generate an output voltage waveform with 21 levels based only on two unequal DC suppliers. The proposed topology's advantage lies in the fine and clear output voltage waveforms with high output efficiency. Meanwhile, the high number of output voltage waveform levels generates a low level of distortion and reduces the level of an electromagnetic interface (EMI). Moreover, it reduces the voltage stress on the switching devices and gives it a long lifetime. Also, the reduction in the number of components has a noticeable role in saving size and cost. Regarding the capacitors charging, the proposed topology presents an online method for charging and balancing the capacitor's voltage without any auxiliary circuits. The proposed topology can upgrade to a high number of output steps through the cascading connection. Undoubtedly this cascading will increase the power level to medium and high levels and reduce the harmonics content to a neglectable rate. The proposed system has been tested through the simulation results, and an experimental prototype based on the controller dSPACE (DS-1103) hardware unit used to support the simulation results.

This document presents a study on designing a standalone hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) for a residential community in Pakistan using PV, wind, diesel, and battery. Nine system configurations were analyzed using HOMER software to determine the optimal and most economical design. HOMER results showed a PV-wind-battery system with 13.4 kW PV, 4 kW wind, and 20 battery units was optimal, with a net present cost of $28,620 and cost of energy of $0.311/kWh. This document discusses a project to improve power quality in a solar photovoltaic energy conversion system using a cascaded 15-level inverter. Proportional Integral, Artificial Neural Network, and Fuzzy Logic controllers are investigated to eliminate harmonics. Simulations were performed in MATLAB/Simulink and hardware was demonstrated for a 3kWp photovoltaic plant coupled to a multilevel inverter. The fuzzy logic controller provided the best results for voltage regulation and power quality improvement. It will establish a theoretical framework on PV cell characteristics and energy storage technologies. A simulation model will be designed in Simulink to determine system performance under different operating scenarios. An experimental model will also be built using a Texas Instruments Solar Explorer Kit to evaluate practical system performance. Results from both models will be analyzed to understand how power converter design influences overall system output and operation.

Aiming at effective power management in microgrids with high penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs), the paper proposes a simple power control for the so-called second-generation, single-phase electric springs (ES-2), that overcomes the shortcomings of the existing ES control methods. By the proposed control, the unpredictable power generated from RESs is divided into two parts, i.e. the one absorbed by the ES-2 that still varies and the other injected into the grid that turns to be controllable, by a simple and accurate signal manipulation that works both at steady-state and during RES transients. It is believed that such a control is suitable for the distributed power generation, especially at domestic homes.
In the paper, the proposed control is supported by a theoretical background. Its effectiveness is at first validated by simulations and then by experiments. To this purpose, a typical RES application is considered, and an experimental setup is arranged, built up around an ES-2 implementing the proposed control. Testing of the setup is carried out in three steps and proves not only the smooth operation of the ES-2 itself, but also its capability in running the application properly.

In this paper wind energy conservation system (WECS) with shunt active power filter (SAPF) is proposed for harmonics elimination, power factor correction, reactive power compensation and grid current balancing. Adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based controller is implemented at WECS side to control the boost converter to achieve MPP and at SAPF sides to minimize voltage variations and enhance power quality. Here, synchronous reference frame (SRF) theory based reference current generation technique is employed in SAPF. The proposed scheme is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink. The results confirm that this method has better performance and can maintain total harmonic distortion (THD) level of the system within the IEEE standard 519.

As today’s world is completely dependent on different types of energies and these energies are going to disappear or exhaust one or the other day so we need to use free energy to run our basic appliances which require electricity for its working. So there is a dire need to find new sources of energy. Most people do not realize that there is a lot of energy that is formed around them all the time. The purpose of this project is to show that the ambient energy in the surroundings can be utilized to generate electricity. In this project, the energy used to open a revolving door is being converted into electrical energy with the help of gears and generator. Further, this electrical energy can be regulated according to the load requirement. Accordingly, a revolving door prototype is designed, fabricated and tested. This prototype can be further optimized in terms of size to generate more electrical energy.

This paper depicts a new configuration for modular hybrid power conversion systems, namely, multi-hybrid generation system (MHGS), and parallel connection at the output, such that the converter of each unit shares the load current equally. This is a significant step towards realizing a modular power conversion system architecture, where smaller units can be connected in any series/parallel grouping to realize any required unit specifications. The supercapacitor (SC) as a complementary source is used to compensate for the slow transient response of the fuel cell (FC) as a main power source. It assists the Fe to meet the grid power demand in order to achieve a better performance and dynamic behavior. Reliable control of the proposed MHGS with multiple units is also a challenging issue. In this paper, a simple control method to achieve active sharing of load current among MHGS modules is proposed. The simulation results verify the performance of the proposed structure and control scheme.

The network includes a DC microgrid connecting homes to a communal battery storage system at a DC substation. Each home would have a solar home energy management system (SHEMS) to control power flows and provide a user interface. The network is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results show the network can improve reliability and optimize operation by reducing conversion losses and making better use of solar power and battery storage.

Standalone Photovoltaic Water Pumping System Using Induction Motor Drive with...
A simple and efficient solar photovoltaic (PV) water pumping system utilizing an induction motor drive (IMD) is presented in this paper. This solar PV water pumping system comprises of two stages of power conversion. The first stage extracts the maximum power from a solar PV array by controlling the duty ratio of a DC-DC boost converter. The DC bus voltage is maintained by the controlling the motor speed. This regulation helps in reduction of motor losses because of reduction in motor currents at higher voltage for same power injection. To control the duty ratio, an incremental conductance (INC) based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control technique is utilized. A scalar controlled voltage source inverter (VSI) serves the purpose of operating an IMD. The stator frequency reference of IMD is generated by the proposed control scheme. The proposed system is modeled and its performance is simulated in detail. The scalar control eliminates the requirement of speed sensor/encoder. Precisely, the need of motor current sensor is also eliminated. Moreover, the dynamics are improved by an additional speed feedforward term in the control scheme. The proposed control scheme makes the system inherently immune to the pump’s constant variation. The prototype of PV powered IMD emulating the pump characteristics, is developed in the laboratory to examine the performance under different operating conditions.

This work deals with the utilization of solar photovoltaic (SPV) energy in the brushless DC (BLDC) motor driven water pump. A DC-DC boost converter, used as an intermediate power conditioning unit plays a vital role in efficiency enhancement of SPV array and soft starting of the BLDC motor with proper control. The speed control of BLDC motor is performed by PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control of the voltage source inverter (VSI) using DC link voltage regulator. No additional control or current sensing element is required for speed control. The behavior of proposed pumping system is demonstrated by evaluating its various performances through MATLAB/simulink based simulation study.

Now-a-days, power generation and utilization became more complicated which further affects the economy of a country. These RES are connected to the grid through power electronic converters which offer countless power quality issues that must be rectified to deliver a quality power to the end users. The proposed work uses a three phase Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) based Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) fed by solar Photo Voltaic (PV) system to eliminate current harmonics at the source side of the grid. The output of the PV system is given to a boost converter along with self–lift single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) for supplying high voltage gain which is accompanied by a Perturb & Observe Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT).The main objective of this paper is to eliminate the current harmonics at the grid side using SAPF. Aiming at effective power management in microgrids with high penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs), the paper proposes a simple power control for the so-called second-generation, single-phase electric springs (ES-2), that overcomes the shortcomings of the existing ES control methods. By the proposed control, the unpredictable power generated from RESs is divided into two parts, i.e. the one absorbed by the ES-2 that still varies and the other injected into the grid that turns to be controllable, by a simple and accurate signal manipulation that works both at steady-state and during RES transients. It is believed that such a control is suitable for the distributed power generation, especially at domestic homes.
In the paper, the proposed control is supported by a theoretical background. Its effectiveness is at first validated by simulations and then by experiments. To this purpose, a typical RES application is considered, and an experimental setup is arranged, built up around an ES-2 implementing the proposed control. Testing of the setup is carried out in three steps and proves not only the smooth operation of the ES-2 itself, but also its capability in running the application properly.

In this paper wind energy conservation system (WECS) with shunt active power filter (SAPF) is proposed for harmonics elimination, power factor correction, reactive power compensation and grid current balancing. Adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based controller is implemented at WECS side to control the boost converter to achieve MPP and at SAPF sides to minimize voltage variations and enhance power quality. Here, synchronous reference frame (SRF) theory based reference current generation technique is employed in SAPF. The proposed scheme is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink. The results confirm that this method has better performance and can maintain total harmonic distortion (THD) level of the system within the IEEE standard 519.

As today’s world is completely dependent on different types of energies and these energies are going to disappear or exhaust one or the other day so we need to use free energy to run our basic appliances which require electricity for its working. So there is a dire need to find new sources of energy. Most people do not realize that there is a lot of energy that is formed around them all the time. The purpose of this project is to show that the ambient energy in the surroundings can be utilized to generate electricity. In this project, the energy used to open a revolving door is being converted into electrical energy with the help of gears and generator. Further, this electrical energy can be regulated according to the load requirement. Accordingly, a revolving door prototype is designed, fabricated and tested. This prototype can be further optimized in terms of size to generate more electrical energy.

This paper depicts a new configuration for modular hybrid power conversion systems, namely, multi-hybrid generation system (MHGS), and parallel connection at the output, such that the converter of each unit shares the load current equally. This is a significant step towards realizing a modular power conversion system architecture, where smaller units can be connected in any series/parallel grouping to realize any required unit specifications. The supercapacitor (SC) as a complementary source is used to compensate for the slow transient response of the fuel cell (FC) as a main power source. It assists the Fe to meet the grid power demand in order to achieve a better performance and dynamic behavior. Reliable control of the proposed MHGS with multiple units is also a challenging issue. In this paper, a simple control method to achieve active sharing of load current among MHGS modules is proposed. Single phase active power filtering method using diode-rectifier-fed motor drive
This paper presents a single-phase high power factor motor drive system with active power filter function. Since most of electrical equipment connected to the grid must comply with regulations regarding grid current harmonics, motor drive systems are generally equipped with Power Factor Corrector (PFC) which is comprised of power switches and reactive components, e.g., inductor and capacitor. The reactive components are bulky and increase the system cost especially in low-cost applications such as electrical home appliances. In this paper, a new motor drive algorithm which is capable of both driving a permanent magnet motor and filtering the harmonic currents produced by other non-linear loads belong to the system is proposed. Since the input current of the drive system is directly controlled by manipulating not the motor current reference but the output voltage reference of the inverter, it is possible to achieve exact and immediate control of the grid current. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is validated by experiments with a permanent magnet motor drive system.

This paper presents a novel ac-dc power factor correction (PFC) power conversion architecture for single-phase grid interface. The proposed architecture has significant advantages for achieving high efficiency, good power factor, and converter miniaturization, especially in low-to-medium power applications. The architecture enables twice-line-frequency energy to be buffered at high voltage with a large voltage swing, enabling reduction in the energy buffer capacitor size, and elimination of electrolytic capacitors. While this architecture can be beneficial with a variety of converter topologies, it is especially suited for system miniaturization by enabling designs that operate at high frequency (HF, 3 – 30 MHz). Moreover, we introduce circuit implementations that provide efficient operation in this range. The proposed approach is demonstrated for an LED driver converter operating at a (variable) HF switching frequency (3 – 10 MHz) from 120Vac, and supplying a 35Vdc output at up to 30W. The prototype converter achieves high efficiency (92 %) and power factor (0.89), and maintains good performance over a wide load range. Owing to architecture and HF operation, the prototype achieves a high ‘box’ power density of 50W/ in3 (‘displacement’ power density of 130W/ in3), with miniaturized inductors, ceramic energy buffer capacitors, and a small-volume EMI filter.

This paper concentrates on the LCL filter with damping resistance intended to connect the shunt active power filter of an active DC-traction substation to the point of common coupling with the transmission grid. In order to find design conditions and conceive a design algorithm, attention is directed to the transfer functions related to currents and the associated frequency response. The mathematical foundation of the design method is based on the meeting the requirements related to the significant attenuation of the high-frequency switching current, concurrently with the unalterated flow of the current that needs to be compensated by active filtering. It is pointed out that there are practical limitations and a compromise must be made between the two requirements. To quantify the extent to which the harmonics to be compensated are influenced by imposing the magnitude response at both highest harmonic frequency to be compensated and switching frequency, a performance indicator is defined. As an additional design criterion, the damping power losses are taken into consideration. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed method are proved by simulation results and experimental tests on a laboratory test bench of small scale reproducing the specific conditions of a DC-traction substation with six-pulse diode rectifier.
High frequency ac-link pv inverter
In this paper, a high-frequency ac-link photovoltaic (PV) inverter is proposed. The proposed inverter overcomes most of the problems associated with currently available PV inverters. In this inverter, a single-stage power-conversion unit fulfills all the system requirements, i.e., inverting dc voltage to proper ac, stepping up or down the input voltage, maximum power point tracking, generating low-harmonic ac at the output, and input/output isolation. This inverter is, in fact, a partial resonant ac-link converter in which the link is formed by a parallel inductor/capacitor (LC) pair having alternating current and voltage. Among the significant merits of the proposed inverter are the zero-voltage turn-on and soft turn-off of the switches which result in negligible switching losses and minimum voltage stress on the switches. Hence, the frequency of the link can be as high as permitted by the switches and the processor. The high frequency of operation makes the proposed inverter very compact. The other significant advantage of the proposed inverter is that no bulky electrolytic capacitor exists at the link. Electrolytic capacitors are cited as the most unreliable component in PV inverters, and they are responsible for most of the inverters’ failures, particularly at high temperature. Therefore, substituting dc electrolytic capacitors with ac LC pairs will significantly increase the reliability of PV inverters. A 30-kW prototype was fabricated and tested. The principle of operation and detailed design procedure of the proposed inverter along with the simulation and experimental results are included in this paper. To evaluate the long-term performance of the proposed inverter, three of these inverters were installed at three different commercial facilities in Texas, USA, to support the PV systems. These inverters have been working for several months now.

The proposed system presents power-control strategies of a Micro grid-connected hybrid generation
system with versatile power transfer. This hybrid system allows maximum utilization of freely available
renewable energy sources like wind and photovoltaic energies. For this, an adaptive MPPT algorithm along with
standard perturbs and observes method will be used for the system.
The inverter converts the DC output from non-conventional energy into useful AC power for the
connected load. This hybrid system operates under normal conditions which include normal room temperature
in the case of solar energy and normal wind speed at plain area in the case of wind energy. However, designing
an optimal micro grid is not an easy task, due to the fact that primary energy carriers are changeable and
uncontrollable, as is the demand. Traditional design and optimization tools, developed for controlled power
sources, cannot be employed here. Simulation methods seem to be the best solution.
The dynamic model of the proposed system is first elaborated in the stationary reference frame and
then transformed into the synchronous orthogonal reference frame. The transformed variables are used in
control of the voltage source converter as the heart of the interfacing system between DG resources and utility
grid. By setting an appropriate compensation current references from the sensed load currents in control circuit
loop of DG, the active, reactive, and harmonic load current components will be compensated with fast dynamic
response, thereby achieving sinusoidal grid currents in phase with load voltages, while required power of the
load is more than the maximum injected power of the DG to the grid. In addition, the proposed control method
of this paper does not need a phase-locked loop in control circuit and has fast dynamic response in providing
active and reactive power components of the grid-connected loads.

Power quality is an all-encompassing concept for a multitude of individual types of power system disturbances. The presence of harmonics in power supply network poses a severe power quality problem that results in greater power losses in the distribution system, interference problems in communication systems and, sometimes, in operation failures of electronic equipment. Shunt active power filters are employed to suppress the current harmonics and reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD). The voltage source inverter (VSI) is the core of an active power filter. The hysteresis current control is a method of controlling the VSI. Hysteresis control can be either of fixed band type or adaptive band type. In this paper, Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) theory is implemented for the generation of reference current signals for the controller. This paper investigates the effectiveness of the proposed model in harmonics currents mitigation by simulating a model of a three-phase three wire shunt active power filter based on adaptive hysteresis current control and SRF theory. In this paper, a new energy control scheme is proposed for actively controlled hybrid dc microgrid to reduce the adverse impact of pulsed power loads. The proposed energy control is an adaptive current-voltage control (ACVC) scheme based on the moving average measurement technique and an adaptive proportional compensator. Unlike conventional energy control methods, the proposed ACVC approach has the advantage of controlling both voltage and current of the system while keeping the output current of the power converter at a relatively constant value. For this study, a laboratory scale hybrid dc microgrid is developed to evaluate the performance of the ACVC strategy and to compare its performance with the other conventional energy control methods. Using experimental test results, it is shown that the proposed strategy highly improves the dynamic performance of the hybrid dc microgrid. Although the ACVC technique causes slightly more bus voltage variation, it effectively eliminates the high current and power pulsation of the power converters. The experimental test results for different pulse duty ratios demonstrated a significant improvement achieved by the developed ACVC scheme in enhancing the system efficiency, reducing the ac grid voltage drop and the frequency fluctuations.

This document provides information about the third edition of the magazine "Sthapatya" published by the Association of Civil Engineers (Practicing) Aurangabad. However, in this talk, we’ll venture into the dynamic realm of WebAssembly (WASM) and discover how it can revolutionize the creation of stateless streaming pipelines within a Kafka (Redpanda) broker. The proper function of the integrated circuit (IC) in an inhibiting electromagnetic environment has always been a serious concern throughout the decades of revolution in the world of electronics, from disjunct devices to today’s integrated circuit technology, where billions of transistors are combined on a single chip. The automotive industry and smart vehicles in particular, are confronting design issues such as being prone to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Electronic control devices calculate incorrect outputs because of EMI and sensors give misleading values which can prove fatal in case of automotives. In this paper, the authors have non exhaustively tried to review research work concerned with the investigation of EMI in ICs and prediction of this EMI using various modelling methodologies and measurement setups.
Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power System
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

- 1. POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT BY USING ACTIVE POWER FILTERS Abstract This paper describes different power quality problems in distribution systems and their solutions with power electronics based equipment. Shunt, hybrid and series active power filters are described showing their compensation characteristics and principles of operation. Different power circuits topologies and control scheme for each type of active power filter are analyzed. The compensation characteristics of each topology with the respective control scheme are proved by simulation and experimentally.
