Generation of Higher Number of Voltage Levels by Stacking Inverters of Lower ...Asoka Technologies
This paper proposes a new method of generating higher number of levels in the voltage waveform by stacking multilevel converters with lower voltage space vector structures. An important feature of this stacked structure is the use of low voltage devices while attaining higher number of levels. This will find extensive applications in electric vehicles since direct battery drive is possible. The voltages of all the capacitors in the structure can be controlled within a switching cycle using the switching state redundancies (pole voltage redundancies). This helps in reducing the capacitor size. Also, the capacitor voltages can be balanced irrespective of modulation index and load power factor. To verify the concept experimentally, a 9-level inverter is developed by stacking two 5-level inverters and an induction motor is run using V/f control scheme. Both steady state and transient results are presented.
Of late, electric vehicles (EVs) have attracted much attention owing to their use of clean energy. Large progress in lithium-ion battery has propelled the development of EVs.However, the challenge is that growing number of EVs leads to huge demand in electric power, which will aggravate the power grid load. This leads to an exploration for alternative and clean sources of energy to charge EVs. This project implements solar energy system to erect a charging station for EV application. The charging station employs multi-port charging by providing a constant voltage DC bus. The charging controllers are operated based on the concept of power balance, and constant current/constant voltage charging. Performance of the charging system is validated with simulation and experimental results.
Automation of capacitor banks based on MVAR RequirementAhmed Aslam
Power generation systems generate two power components, real power measured in watts, and reactive power measured in VARs. Both of these power components need to be produced and transmitted from the generator to the service customer. Real power flows from the generator to the load, and is used to drive loads such as electrical motors, create the heating effect in heaters, and the heating/lighting effect in lamps. Losses and associated voltage drops in the network are effected by the vector sum of real power and reactive power. Reactive power provided from a generation or capacitor source to the load is the component necessary for the operation of magnetizing currents in motors, transformers and solenoids which are part of a customer service load.
A capacitor bank is a grouping of several identical capacitors interconnected in parallel or in series with one another. These groups of capacitors are typically used to correct or counteract undesirable characteristics, such as power factor lag or phase shifts inherent in alternating current (AC) electrical power supplies. Shunt capacitor banks are used to an increasing extent at all voltage levels. There are a variety of reasons for this like the growing need for power transfer on existing lines while avoiding transfer of reactive power, better use of existing power systems, improving voltage stability, right-of-way and cost problems, voltage control and compensation of reactive loads. Three-phase capacitor bank sizes vary from a few tenths of MVAr to several hundreds of MVAr. Here we are using 25MVAR capacitor bank for this purpose.
Here, we have simulated an automatic scheme for switching of capacitor bank based on mvar requirement of the system. They automatically sense the voltage and reactive power using transducers. Output from these transducers are given to sensing circuit where it is compare with normal parameters (voltage and reactive power) of the system. If the condition satisfies it automatically switch on capacitor bank. And this normalises the system parameters.

Real time implementation of a packed u-cell seven-levelAsoka Technologies
In this paper a new cascaded nonlinear controller has been designed and implemented on the packed U-Cell (PUC) seven-level inverter. Proposed controller has been designed based on a simplified model of PUC inverter and consists of a voltage controller as outer loop and a current controller as inner loop. The outer loop regulates the PUC inverter capacitor voltage as the second DC bus. The inner loop is in charge of controlling the flowing current which is also used to charge and discharge that capacitor. The main goal of the whole system is to keep the DC capacitor voltage at a certain level results in generating a smooth and quasi-sine-wave 7-level voltage waveform at the output of the inverter with low switching frequency. The proposed controller performance is verified through experimental tests. Practical results prove the good dynamic performance of the controller in fixing the PUC capacitor voltage for various and variable load conditions and yet generating low harmonic 7-level voltage waveform to deliver power to the loads. Operation as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or AC loads interface for photovoltaic energy conversion applications is targeted.

A solar power generation system with a seven level inverterAsoka Technologies
This paper proposes a new solar power generation system, which is composed of a dc/dc power converter and a new seven-level inverter. The dc/dc power converter integrates a dc–dc boost converter and a transformer to convert the output voltage of the solar cell array into two independent voltage sources with multiple relationships. This new seven-level inverter is configured using a capacitor selection circuit and a full-bridge power converter, connected in cascade. The capacitor selection circuit converts the two output voltage sources of dc–dc power converter into a three-level dc voltage, and the full-bridge power converter further converts this three-level dc voltage into a seven-level ac voltage. In this way, the proposed solar power generation system generates a sinusoidal output current that is in phase with the utility voltage and is fed into the utility. The salient features of the proposed seven-level inverter are that only six power electronic switches are used, and only one power electronic switch is switched at high frequency at any time. A prototype is developed and tested to verify the performance of this proposed solar power generation system.

The proposed converter has the ZETA converter advantages such as, buck-boost capability, input to output DC insulation and continuous output current. The suggested converter voltage gain is higher than the classic ZETA converter. In the presented converter, only one main switch is utilized. The proposed converter offers low voltage stress of the switch; therefore, the low on-state resistance of the main switch can be selected to decrease losses of the switch. The presented converter topology is simple; hence, the control of the converter is simple. The converter has the continuous output current. The mathematical analyses of the presented converter are given. The experimental results confirm the correctness of the analysis.

An on-chip soft-start pseudo-current hysteresis-controlled buck converter for...IJECEIAES
This paper introduces a novel direct current to direct current (DC-DC) buck converter that uses a pseudo-current hysteresis controller and an on-chip soft start circuit for improved transient performance in automotive applications. The proposed converter, implemented with Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company (TSMC) 0.18 µm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) one-poly-six-metal (1P6M) technology, includes a rail-to-rail current detection circuit and an on-chip soft start circuit to handle transient responses and improve efficiency. Transient response analysis shows fast settling times of 28 µs for both load current changes from 100 mA to 1 A and reversals with consistent transient voltages of approximately 190 mV and peak power efficiency of 99.32% at 5 V output voltage and 100 mA load current. Additionally, the converter maintains a constant output voltage of approximately 5 V across the entire load current range with an average accuracy of 90.41%. A comparative analysis with previous work shows superior performance in terms of figure of merit (FOM). Overall, the proposed pseudo-current hysteresis controlled buck converter exhibits remarkable transient response, load regulation and power efficiency, positioning it as a promising solution for demanding applications, particularly in automotive systems where precise voltage regulation is crucial.
A DC-DC Converter with Ripple Current Cancellation Based On Duty Cycle SelectionIJMER
In this paper a boost dc-dc converter is proposed based on the concept of ripple current cancellation. This proposed system has the novel capability of cancelling the input current ripple at an arbitrarily preselected duty cycle. This is accomplished without increasing the count of the number of components in contrast to other solutions available in the conventional system. In addition to this, the converter also features a high voltage gain without utilizing extreme values of duty cycle or boosting transformers. These features make the converter ideal to process electric power coming from low-voltage power-generating sources, such as renewables. This system also provides details on the principle of operation via topological considerations and a mathematical model. The key factor of reactive component sizing is also discussed in detail. The proposed boost dc-dc converter is evaluated by simulating in MATLAB/Simulink software.
CONTROL OF BATTERY OPERATED SYSTEM WITH A DC-DC BOOSTCONVERTER FED DSTATCOM U...ijiert bestjournal
This paper presents a comprehensive survey of DSTATCOM control strategies put forward recently. It is
aimed at providing a broad perspective on the status of DSTATCOM control methods to researchers and
application engineers dealing with harmonic suppression issues. Many control techniques have been
designed, developed, and realized for active filters in recent years. The proposed DSTATCOM consists of a
three-leg Voltage Source Converter (VSC) with a dc bus capacitor. The PV array or battery operated boost
converter is proposed to maintain the dc link voltage of the dc bus capacitor for continuous compensation
for the load. This paper presents to evaluate the performance comparison of two control strategies for
extracting the reference currents to control the proposed DSTATCOM. The two control methods are
Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) theory and IcosΦ algorithm. The performance of the DSTATCOM is
validated using MATLAB software with its simulink and Power System Block set (PSB) toolboxes. The
simulation results for the two control methods are compared to validate the superior performance of the
IcosΦ algorithm.
An Approach of D-STATCOM in Single Phase System with Power Quality ImprovementIJERA Editor
The paper describes the design of D-STATCOM in single phase for voltage interruption mitigation of fault in an unbalance system. Speed of response is higher than static var compensator (SVC) and harmonic emission is less than SVC that is why D-STATCOM is used in place of static var compensator. It validates the performance of D-STATCOM for improving power quality and harmonics. It provides a guide for utilities to have an appropriate choice of FACTS devices for enhancing stability. The work proposes a two pulse STATCOM configurations in which voltage source inverter uses IGBT as a switching device have been simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Accordingly, simulation is first carried out to illustrate use of D-STATCOM in mitigating voltage interruption in single phase. The scope of the paper is to explore the D-STATCOM in single phase. Normally, D-STATCOM is not used in single phase, so an attempt has been made to introduce DSTATCOM in single phase load or household applications. Simulation results of 3KVAR D-STATCOM validate that integrated D-STATCOM with 230V, 91μF capacitor is suited for single phase system with voltage interruption mitigation capacit
Fuzzy based control of Transformer less Coupled inductor based DC-DC converterIJERA Editor
Most of the industrial applications use any one of the basic DC-DC converter configurations namely buck,
boost, buck–boost, and Cuk converters. These converters are non-isolating converters. Buck-boost converters
use inductors for storing energy from the source and release the same to load or output. This results in high
stress across magnetic components. This drawback restricts usage of buck-boost converters to low power
applications. Flyback converters popularly have known as buck-boost converters uses transformers for
achieving wide range of step down and step up voltages. Coupled inductor based converters or tapped inductor
based converters are used for achieving wide input – wide output conversion ratios. Coherent transition between
step-down and step-up modes is achieved by a proper control scheme. This paper proposes fuzzy logic based
closed loop control scheme for control of converter switches. Theoretical derivations of control parameters with
their membership values, mamdani based rules for development of fuzzy rules and simulation results of a
coupled inductor based DC-DC converter using MATLAB / SIMULINK are concluded.
The intention of this paper is to identify a suitable controller for closed loop multi converter system for multiple input sources and to improve time response of high-gain-step up-converter. Closed-loop Multi Converter System (MCS) is utilized to regulate load-voltage. This effort recommends suitable-controller for closed-two loop-controlled-SEPIC-REBOOST Converter fed DC motor. The estimation of the yield in open-two loop and closed- two-loop-circuit has been done using MATLAB or Simulink. Closed-two loop-control of Multi Converter System with Propotional+Integral (PI)- Propotional+Integral (PI) and Proportional+Resonant (PR) - Proportional+Resonant (PR) Controllers are investigated and their responses are evaluated in conditions of rise time, peak time, settling time and steady state error. It is seen that current-mode PR-PR controlled MCS gives better time domain response in terms of motor speed. A Prototype of MCS has been fabricated in the laboratory and the experimental-results are authenticated with the simulation-results.

It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.

FLEXIBLE AC TRANSMISSION USING SVC
ABSTRACT
The objective of this project is to improve power factor of transmission lines using
SVC (Static Variable Compensator). Static VAR Compensation under FACTS uses TSC
(Thyristor Switched Capacitors) based on shunt compensation duly controlled from a
programmed microcontroller.
Prior to the implementation of SVC, power factor compensation was done by large
rotating machines such as synchronous condenser or switched capacitor banks. These were
inefficient and because of large rotating parts they got damaged quickly. This proposed system
demonstrates power factor compensation using thyristor switched capacitors.
Shunt capacitive compensation - This method is used to improve the power factor.
Whenever an inductive load is connected to the transmission line, power factor lags because of
lagging load current. To compensate for this, a shunt capacitor is connected which draws current
leading the source voltage. The net result is improvement in power factor. The time lag between
the zero voltage pulse and zero current pulse duly generated by suitable operational amplifier
circuits in comparator mode are fed to two interrupt pins of the 8 bit microcontroller of 8051
family. Thereafter program takes over to actuate appropriate number of opto-isolators duly
interfaced to back to back SCRs. This results in bringing shunt capacitors into the load circuit to
get the power factor till it reaches unity.
