India has significant hydroelectric potential with approximately 20% of its 150,000 MW potential installed currently. Small hydro potential is around 15,000 MW mainly in northern and eastern hilly regions. Wind power potential is around 45,000 MW with 8,748 MW currently installed across states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. India aims to generate 20 GW of solar power by 2020 to feed the national grid, which would represent around three quarters of the estimated global solar capacity for that year.
