NALCO is a government-owned integrated aluminum company based in Odisha, India with bauxite mines and alumina refinery located in Damanjodi. The refinery requires 85MW of electricity to operate, with 64% generated on-site by a steam-based coal fired power plant known as the Steam & Power Plant. Power requirements are divided into critical and non-critical loads, with non-critical loads able to be reduced during shortages to maintain continuity of operations. NALCO also receives power from the state grid and its own large thermal power plant located in Angul, Odisha.
