5. Heat stroke
Important death cause in topical region . Absence
of sweat gland mainly related to this type of death
in poultry.
Mortality rate: (5-50)%
Factor for heat Stroke:
 Inadequate water supply and ventilation.
 Overcrowding
 Too low ceiling

6. Symptoms:
• Weakness
• Starts panting
• Paralysis
Pathology:
o Congestion
o Dehydration
o Haemorrhagic foci.

7. Treatment:
• Dipped in the chilled water
• Chilled water by orally
• Conditioning to high temperature.
Prevention:
Use of air coolers and adequate ventilation
Supply of cold water in summer.
Provision of High ceiling and exhaust fan.

8. Blue Wing disease
Subcutaneous haemorrhages on the wing of a
young chicken with Chicken Infectious Anemia.
Mortality rate: 20-30%
Factors :
Chicken anemia agent
Reovirus
Immunosuppression.
Symptoms:
 Bluish discoloration of skin mostly wings.
 Loss of appetite.
 Depression.

9. Pathology:
• Swelling of subcutaneous tissue of wings.
• Oedema
• Haemorrhage.
Treatment:
Drinking water with penicillin is very useful.
Cephalexin ; 200 gm/5000 chicks.
Enrofloxacin

10. Leechi disease
The sick chickens cany the virus in their excreta kidneys, tracheal
and nasal mucosa.
Mortality rate: 10-80%
Causes:
 Inclusion body hepatitis virus.
 Adenovirus.
 Overcrowding
 Lack of hygiene.
Pathology:
 Accumulation of clear, straw color fluid in pericardium
 Kidneys appear pale.
 Anaemic bone marrow.

11. Treatment:
Liver tonic
Sodium citrate 5-6 gm/L drinking water.
Prevention:
Supply of hygienic place.
Avoid overcrowding.
Water sanitizer.

12. Gout
Deposition of uric acid in the organs of poultry.
Factors:
Deficiency of vitamin A.
Excess protein in diet
Nephrosis
Symptoms:
Depression
Dehydration
Diarrhoea

13. Treatment:
Ammonium sulphate 5 gm/kg to increase uric
acid excreation.
Methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA)
Prevention:
Avoid high protein diet.
Avoid excessive use of sodium bicarbonate.

14. Fatty liver syndrome
Deposition of fat in the liver.
Factors:
 Lower calcium in feed.
 high calories diet.
 Toxins.
Symptoms:
Poultry gain more weight then normal.
Enlarged,yellowish liver.
Rupture with internal haemorrhage.

15. Treatment:
• Supply of vitamins E, B12 and inositol in diet.
• Oral liver tonic and ascorbic acid.
Prevention:
 Avoid overcrowding
 Reduce heat stress
 Reduce energy content of diet.

16. Spiking Mortality
This is a condition characterised by a sudden increase in
mortality in young, typically 7-14-day-old, rapidly growing
broiler chickens.
• Mortality: 1% daily.
Causes:
 Mycotoxins
 Reoviral infection
 Thiamine deficiency.
Symptoms:
 Depression
 Opisthotonus
 Recumbancy

17. Pathology:
• Congestion in the liver
• Hypoglycemia
Treatment:
Supply of vitamin E and iron .
Supply of carbohydrate in diet.

18. salpingitis
Salpingitis is an inflammation of the oviduct, which may
contain liquid or caseous exudate. In young pullets,
Symptoms:
 Depression
 Reduced egg production.
 Laying infertile eggs.
 Loss of appetite
Treatment :
Supply of Antimicrobial agent.

19. Avian hysteria
Characterised by sudden freight due to fair,
excitement.
Causes:
Overcrowding
Excess Mg can cause nervius excitement.

20. Symptoms:
No major symptoms are shown.
reduced feed intake and egg production.
Treatment:
Administration of B-complex vitamins.
Administration of sedatives in small doses.

21. Blue comb disease
It is a diseases primarily of young laying hens. Also
called pullet disease.
Mortality: 52-82%
Causes:
o Various types of virus.
Symptoms:
Bluish color of combs.
Congestion of liver
Nephrosis
Treatment :
No specific treatment can be found, teramycin may be used.

22. Gizzard erosion:
Mortality: 1-10%
Factors:
Infections(adenovirus, reovirus)
Mycotoxins
Lack of fiber in feed
.

23. Symptoms:
Proventiculus losses it’s normal fusiform shape.
It’s Junction with gizzard gets dilated and stiff
Tratment:
Replace animal protein with vegetable
protein.
Supply of vitamin E , liver tonics, and
appetisers.
