“Me As A Learner”
 Taking this ACDV 101 course has taught me a lot
about myself that I didn’t know, reminded me
about things I forgot, and also provided me with
insight and literary terms for this that I didn’t
  even understand through mere learning
  inventories.
 Taking these inventories were sometimes
amusing to me because I was wondering if they
were really relevant to my learning.
 However, I have come to realize that if I want to
be successful in college, I really need to know all
  these things.
Some of these things included;
 My Learning Styles
I am VARK; meaning that I am a visual,
       auditory, read/write and kinesthetic
       learner
 How I Learning Best
Even though I am a VARK learner, I learn
best as a Tactical Learner.(prefer doing task
that requires hands on approach)
 How to control my spending and saving
For e.g. I might spend a lot more when I go shopping
with friends, so its best to go by myself most of the
  time.
Challenges I had when it came to reading before I
did ACDV.
1. Before I started ACDV, I would normally fall
asleep while reading because I didn’t know
that reading would be much easier if I took
    breaks while reading.
2. Even though I might make reading schedules, I
wouldn’t used them, and if the time passed, I
wouldn’t bother reading that section. (Stealing
    time)
3. I normally spend a lot of time online and then
start studying when its almost time to go to
    bed.

                Attitudes, and apart the
                Interest chapter
 Above is an example of my personalized
  reading plan.
 I have learned that having a reading plan will
  do the following:
  1. Will make your textbook easier to read and
       complete
  2. Because your on a schedule it makes it easier
for you to make notes and study them and still
       have time to review/rehearse them.
Before I started ACDV and started learning about prioritizing and
other time management strategies, I used to skip classes and
most times I went I actually went I would be sleeping.
Therefore, most times I would know that I have an assignment
due or a test the day before or on the day, and even if I knew
before, I would have a pile that I’m trying to get through so that
pile would just get higher and higher.
Taking this ACDV course has taught me how to manage
my time properly and the steps on how to better my time
management skills. These include:
1. Scheduling my classes for my most alert times. Therefore I
     wont fall asleep during class.
2. Not only should I schedule at my most alert times, but I
must go to class therefore I won’t be spending study and
     homework time writing notes.
3. Prioritize: Sort tasks or assignment from highest to lowest.
Most important tasks should be your highest priority.
Assignments that have closer due dates should be done first.
“Back in high school, I would sleep during class time, then copied my friends notes
after class. I realized that they weren’t making note of everything that was said, but
who cares? Even though I wasn’t passing by much, I got a lot of make up grade and I
would still be taking home a good report card. All of this changed when I started
CCBC, because on the first day of class I read in my text that in college a lot of make
up work isn’t giving. I thought to myself there goes the good days, now I’ll have to
write my own notes now but how can I put these notes in a way I can easily
understand. I started to the internet but still wasn’t sure what to do. A few days later,
I was talking to a friend of mine who has been at CCBC for the pass five years and she
told me I could use my ACDV book to find it and I did”
For my CSIT class, we mostly got hand outs or
chapters are assigned for reading, so I figured that the
Parallel Notes note taking strategy was best for me. I chose
this strategy because not only did it allow me to have the
instructors notes alongside mine but it also allowed me to
have a Self-testing area alongside my notes. In addition to
taking my own notes, I also try to have good notes by
ensuring that; my notes are organized, main details and key
terms are highlighted, that I have a number of examples if
available and I sometimes use abbreviations. All of these
elements makes my notes a lot easier to review and
rehearse.
Studying is vital when ever I’m suppose to have a
test. Therefore, I have chosen the strategies I am
most comfortable with using and I have stuck with
them through out. These strategies include:
 Creating an SSP: I always create a study schedule
so that I am on point with my studies.
 Review and Rehearsing: I always re-read/review
  key points and terms.
 Self- Testing: Taking a pre-test before the exam
will make it clear to me how much I know before
the test and also give me an idea of how much I
  will score on the test.
 I strongly believe that the things I learned in
ACDV will be better my chances of success in
college and maybe throughout life and the
choices I might makes in the future.
 Knowing how I learn best, how to manage my
time properly and the process of taking good
notes and rehearsing them will be very helpful,
especially when I transfer to a four year college
because most of the time I will be required my
own information if I want to be successful.
 Overall the main thing I learned was that college
is far different from high school and even though
it might seem u have more time you really don’t
because college is like a full time job.
 Notebook: A notebook can be a hard cover book of
any size. This book will be used to take notes from
lecture and make your own notes from your own
    reading.
 Textbook: Instructors will not be able to explain or go
through everything in classes; therefore, textbooks
    are very important.
 Writing instruments: These includes pens, pencils,
markers etc. These items are used to write notes,
    highlight or underline key points.
 Web CT: this in reference to blackboard learning
systems. This is a vital tool for learning at CCBC,
because this is where most instructors choose to post
assignments and grades. Web CT is also used for
    sending messages and posting important
    announcements.
