Technology: Boon
or Bane?
Technology: Boon or Bane?
Technology is a blessing for man. With
technology, there is a lot that we can do
which we could not do then. With
cellphones, webcam, you will be closer
to someone miles and miles away. So
far yet so close! That is your feeling
when you talk through of the many
human lives saved because of speedy
notifications via cellphones. Just think of
how your teaching and learning have
become more novel, stimulating,
exciting, fresh and engaging with the
use of multimedia in the classroom.
However, when not used
properly, technology becomes a
detriment to learning and
development. It can destroy
relationships. Think of the
student who surfs the internet
for pornographic scenes. He will
have trouble with his
development. The abuse and
misuse of the internet will have
far reaching unfavorable effects
on his moral life.
Boon
Used to communicate family
members abroad.
We can get entertainment from TV.
We can make research faster
through accessing the internet.
Serves as tool for gaining more
knowledge.
Makes as more comfortable.
Bane
It will lose the face-to-face
interaction of the family.
Leads to laziness.
Increases our electricity bills.
No mre time for family bonding.
Children became prone to
pornograhy.
The Roles of Educational
Technology in Learning
Traditional Way
 The learner learns from the technology
and the technology serves as TEACHER.
 Technology serves as source and presenter
of knowledge.
 It is assumed that “knowledge is embedded
in the technology and the technology presents
that knowledge to a student.”
 Technology like computers is seen as
productivity tool.
Technology serves as a PARTNER IN
LEARNING
 Educational technology serves as
learning tools to learn with.
 It engages learners in active,
constructive, intentional, authentic and
cooperative.
 It provides opportunities for
technology and learner interaction for
meaningful learning.
Constructivist way
Roles of
Technology in
Learning
1.TECHNOLOGY AS TOOLS TO
SUPPORT KNOWLEDGE
CONSTRUCTION.
 For representing learner’s ideas ,
understanding, and beliefs.
 For producing organized, multimedia
knowledge bases by learners.
2. TECHNOLOGY AS
INFORMATION VEHICLES FOR
EXPLORING KNOWLEDGE TO
SUPPORT LEARNING-BY-
CONSTRUCTING.
For accessing needed
information.
For comparing perspectives,
beliefs and world views.
3. TECHNOLOGY AS
CONTEXT TO SUPPORT
LEARNING-BY-DOING.
For representing and simulating
meaningful real-world problems,
situations and contexts.
For representing beliefs, perspectives,
arguments and stories of others.
For defining a safe, controllable problem
space for student thinking.
4. TECHNOLOGY AS A SOCIAL
MEDIUM TO SUPPORT
LEARNING BY CONVERSING.
For collaborating with others.
For discussing, arguing and building consensus
among members of a community.
For supporting discourse among knowledge-
building communities.
5. TECHNOLOGY AS
INTELLECTUAL PARTNER TO
SUPPORT LEARNING-BY-
REFLECTING.
For helping what learners to articulate and
represent what they know.
For reflecting on what they have learned and how
they came to know it.
For constructing personal representations of
meaning.
For supporting mindful thinking.
Learning Through
Ed Tech 1 and 2
There is little doubt that information
and communication technologies have
changed the world in which we live.
They have enabled us to communicate,
learn, work and relate to one another
differently.
As the representative body that is
responsible for the states’ purse strings,
legislators also are demanding more
rigorous evidence that education
funding is increasing student
achievement before they make
significant additional investments. In
particular, because technology is a
relatively new tool in education, a high
level of scrutiny often is placed on
technology’s effectiveness
As a future teacher, we must
engaged our students of the new
digital world of information
technology or modern world
society because we are now in 21st
century.
When they are well
implemented, instructional
courseware, digital content and
other electronic learning resources
can help meet intermediary goals
that can lead to improved student
achievement, making technology an
essential tool in teaching.
THANK YOU
!!!!!
