Essay on Memory (SPEECH OUTLINE)
Memory
Specific purpose: to increase my audience s understanding of how memory functions and how it
affects them.
Central idea: Memory is a process of the brain which is prone to certain failures, although specific
steps can be taken to guard against these failures.
Introduction
I. Memory problems can affect us in many ways.
A. Some of you might have had problems finding your keys before you came to class.
B. Some of you have certainly suffered from quot; What s Your Name Again? quot; syndrome.
1. We can remember attributes of people without being able to recall their names.
2. For instance, you may not know my name but you would be able to recognize me as being in
your class.

Sex Education And Comprehensive Sexual Education
Let s talk about sex. Stances on comprehensive sexual education vary, whether it be from
religious beliefs or past experiences, different views are held throughout. It is in the interests of
society in general... for every secondary school pupil to be in receipt of sexual education (Cumper
16). The phrase it s better to be safe than sorry applies heavily on the topic of sex education, the
idea of a pregnant and STD ridden 15 year old tends to frighten a million times more than the
thought of proper contraception use and safe sexual encounters. Although the likeliness of a parent
wanting their teen to engage in sex remains extremely low, most would prefer the latter.
Comprehensive sexual education should be implemented in all schools... Show more content on

In contrast, The practice of avoiding sexual intercourse until marriage. Abstinence only sex
education programs focus on abstinence as the standard and preferred lifestyle for young people
and emphasize the benefits of refraining from intercourse ( Flynn 5). While abstinence only
education discusses contraceptives, the idea of remaining pure until marriage is pushed through
out. Even though there are numerous forms of sex ed, the former is ideal due to teenagers being
knowledgeable about either path they take, and doing so safely.
The infamous ideal of waiting until marriage, no matter if it s right or not, is claimed as the set
standard of youth: Nationally, rates of teen sexual activity have declined over the past fifteen
years, yet even so, about half of all high school youth report having sex and more than one in five
report having had four or more partners by the time they graduate from high school (Dailard 73).
Some teens, in fact about half are able to abstain from sex, meaning no pregnancy, and no STDs and
the number is only growing. There is no question...that increased abstinence meaning delayed
vaginal intercourse among young people has played a role in reducing both teen pregnancy rates in
the United States and HIV rates in at least one developing country. Logic will tell that not having
sex leads to not getting pregnant and not transmitting sexual diseases. ... while some teens

The Heart Of Cardiac Muscle Essay
INTRODUCTION The cardiac muscle, more commonly known as the heart muscle, is quite
different from the more familiar know skeletal muscle. Unlike skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle is
able to conduct its own electrical impulses allowing it to contract and relax spontaneously without
being told to by the brain or any other organ (Marieb, Mitchell, p. 512). This is due to the constant
leakage of sodium ions into the mainly potassium filled cells which then eventually lead to action
potentials causing the heartto beat rhythmically (Mariev, Mitchell, p.512) this rhythm is more
commonly referred to as one s heartbeat. From this BIOPAC laboratory, the student(s) should learn
how different stimuli will affect a resting heart rate. Due to the fact that cardiac muscleis able to
create action potentials on its own, a change in chemical, temperature, and ionic balance causes the
heart to react differently and change its rhythm of beats by either slowing down or speeding up.
More specifically, by saturating the heart with histamine the heart rate should speed up, while
pilocarpine will cause the heart to substantially slow, and finally the addition of epinephrine will
cause the resting heart rate to speed up.

The Role Of Death In Western American Culture
Many cultures find it important to honor the deceased, simply having a funeral is an example of
this. In Western Africa, different groups used different art as a way to honor the memory of their
people who had died. Africans, like other cultures, have different reasons for memorializing the
dead, but it comes down the idea that deathis not the end. The Dogon people, for example,
memorialized the dead by using art in the form of colorful masks worn during a performance at
the funerals. Their reasoning for this other than to honor the deceased was to lead their souls to
where their ancestors are. This ritual is called a dama, and if they failed to do this, the souls of the
dead would not be freed to the afterlife. These masks have a more

Romeo And Juliet Dialectical Journal
Creative Title
Imagine if you were walking down the aisle on your wedding day which is meant to be the best
day ever, but the person at the end is a stranger. How would you like if the day you have been
waiting all your life is just practically handed to you and isn t even what you wanted or who you
wanted to be with. Well, this is actually how some people s lives happen for them. Such as they
have no say in who they marry because their parents are in control of it all. In Romeo and Juliet
this is the same situation that Juliet and Paris went through in the story. Like how Juliet s parents
wanted her to marry Paris at the age of fourteen. Juliet s family was for arranging marriage since
they were arranged when they got married, but on the other hand Juliet was very against the
whole idea of marrying at fourteen, especially since she was very in love with Romeo even though
their two families hated each other. This caused a lot of problems with Juliet s family and that she

This is a big deal when things are arranged for people even though some people don t see it. For
example, Tim Arango stated, I tried to kill myself, she said. I did not want to get married. I was
forced to get engaged (Arango). This is showing how the amount of stress put on people can
have severe endings leading to death. In like manner Arango also stated that, Officials are
alarmed by what they described as a worsening epidemic of suicides, particularly among young
women tormented by being forced to marry to young, to someone they do not love . So even
though some people do realize the amount of stress put on people it is still necessary that
everyone needs to realize what could happen if you force something to happen when it s not meant
to be. It s clear now that if you are doing this to someone that you could have more severe things

Enthusiastic Train Research Paper
Enthusiastic Trains Throughout the history of society of the past centuries, transportation was an
important role in everyday life. These technologies evolved over time as one important one
changed the way we live. Trains changed the way we got around, it changed the economic
landscape of America, as well as every aspect in society and culture. This tremendous tool still
helps millions of people to this day. In the United States, the present day train is cheaper than
flying. Most railway services offer discounts as it provides low costs for the average American, and
the prices are stable with no change, as there is no need to look at if the trends of prices do change.

Furthermore, before the railroad was around for trains to transport, it took roughly around six
months and one thousand dollars to go from New York to California. Once the railroad was
complete, it only took a week and one hundred and fifty dollars. Business travel was now easier
than before, which brought gargantuan business growth with cheaper distribution and expanding
markets because there was more possibilities for partnerships. The transcontinental railroad, the
biggest railroad for trains to transport at the time, opened on May 10, 1869. Within ten years,
the railroad would ship over fifty million dollars per year. This brought a boom to the economy,
bringing a faster pace of creating goods for the American people. Trains give people the
possibility of an elevated way to move commercial goods across the America. Trains carry over a
third of the freight on the railways, with thousands upon thousands of exuberant miles connecting
the major cities in our country. In downtown Oconomowoc, we have our own train station. It is

Dubai Research Paper
The United Arab Emirates is a location that offers many tourist attractions and opportunities for a
great experience. One city comes to mind when thinking about the United Arab Emirates, Dubai.
The discovery of oil in this emirate allowed for massive infrastructure projects and transportation
improvements to attract foreign investors and visitors. This report examines how the city of Dubai
has changed by developing tourism.
Phases of Development
Dubai has undergone four major development phases since its beginning. The very first stage
happened around 1900 1955 and had some initial issues expanding due to some economic
hardships and a huge increase in the population. From 1956 1970, Dubai began its second phase of
development based on a 1960 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some problems the city is now facing include land ownership/distribution, adequate housing,
modern public transportation systems and the polarization of the low income class and the
wealthy. Land and housing challenges. One of the main problems encountered with fast paced
urbanization is land ownership and the process of updating dilapidated housing facilities.
According to state policy, all national males over the age of 20 must receive a plot of land that is
at least 15000 square feet. Dubai is a predominantly automobile driven state. A major challenge the
city faces is creating a modern transportation system in the rapidly expanding urban area. As most
people travel by automobile, fewer than 5% of person trips are by public transport. The automobile
dependent city encounters high volume traffic during peak hours and hardly adequate parking
facilities. Another hardship faced is economic classification of classes. Although Dubai is rich
from oil, much of that money is controlled by the wealthy and powerful upper class especially the
Sheik. In principle everyone is welcome in the awe inspiring edifices sprawling across the city,
nonetheless this theory is confounded by reality: only those that are either customers or nationals of
the Emirate can meet the expense of much of these structures, with innumerable low income
migrants essentially excluded by a subtle system of priority entries, fees and membership cards

Realism s Effect on Chekhov and Stanislavsky, and their...
Realism played a huge role in the lives of Anton Chekhov and Konstantin Stanislavsky. Both
men made a huge impact on the world of theatre, and results are still seen today. Elements from
Chekhov s plays have influenced playwrights that came after him, like the works of Tennessee
Williams, who listed that Chekhov had a huge impact on his writing. Stanislavsky s acting
system, based on acting truthfully, inspired many other acting systems that are still used today.
Realism was a huge movement in late 1800s to early 1900s. All art forms were influenced by it.
Writers, artists, actors and more started taking a more simple direction and tried to depict life as it
actually was. In visual art it was common to see ordinary people doing every day... Show more

Vladimir Nemirovich Danchenko and Konstantin Stanislavsky founded the Moscow Art Theatre
on June 22, 1897, during an 18 hour luncheon at the Slavyanski Bazar (The Stanislavsky
Century). The two had set out to reform Russian theatre and had the common goal in mind to
create great art. Before they set their rules and regulations into place, none officially existed.
Actors would show up either drunk or late and not have their lines learned. Stanislavsky and
Nemirovich wanted a place where there would be discipline and respect and great art, thus the
Moscow Art Theatre was born (The Stanislavsky Century). Konstantin Stanislavsky, himself, also
practiced ideas of naturalism. He was a theatre practitioner and his roles served as actor and
director, and he created the first acting method. He functioned as the artistic director of the
Moscow Art Theatre. In A Sourcebook for Naturalist Theatre, there was a comparative statement to
Chekhov and Stanislavsky which read: In addition to the concept of acting truly , the practical
correlative to Chekhov s aim of depicting life as it really is , this extract outlines one of the most
important keys to Stanislavsky s system: establishing objectives, which in terms of acting is the
equivalent to the naturalists focus on motivation (Innes 54). Stanislavsky wrote three novels that
discuss his acting method; An Actor Prepares, Building a Character, and Creating a Role. These
books are from the perspective of a

Non Traditional Being an undergraduate as an adult is strange. It s at once unnerving and inspiring.
It s not a unilateral experience, but there are commonalities between adult students; there are a lot
of them. Toward the end of my almost final year of undergraduate studies, I was sitting with Annie,
another thirtyish former bartender, smoking cigarettes and trying to commiserate. Annie was in
tears, shocked that she would be the only non traditional student from our department walking in
our school s graduation ceremony. Strutting across a stage in a gown makes my skin crawl under
any circumstances, and to do so in celebration of something I felt should have finished a long time

queer theory into everything from Spencer to Carver, tells us that the first gay person he ever met

tolerance grows. We remind ourselves that we grew up in different worlds than these people, these

Mean Girls Sociology Essay

Sociology 101
George Kinder
Movies And Their Messages In the movie Mean Girls, released in April of 2004, you see the
traditional story about the new girl in school and the stereotypes that engulf the adolescent
environment. Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, shows us what life at a corrupted school
could be like for teens that are not so familiar with the American ways of socialization and
surviving the potentially threatening lifestyle it could lead on. Sadly, children succumb to it as a
result of a dire need to fit in. In the film, we re first introduced with the impression that high
schoolers and the staff are super strict and have no sympathy for the new students. As it subtly

but it s happening. This film highly impacts the vulnerability and unsure senses that these teens
have. As the teachers could care less about what s going on in their kids love lives, the kids mostly
think of it as the center of their life at the time. A level of maturity and irresponsibility come in
with these thoughts and priorities. Cady also finds herself making small references back to her
original home, Africa. She sees the other students as simple jungle animals in the wild, survival
of the fittest at its best. That s probably the best metaphor someone could compare high school
to, a jungle. An incontrollable area where children have to grow up and find out who they are
and where they fit in and what they should do. When peers such as your friends or classmates
influence your life without you realizing it, it is determined it s peer pressure. Almost every
child is victim to this idea of peer pressure at some age or the other. It s an identity crisis, while
also a constant comparison by parents and teachers, that makes children follow the leader in terms
of the social scale. Kids, being in the process of forming an identity, needs the support and
direction by those around them. The only way possible of making your child strong enough to beat
peer pressure is to help him build confidence and to treat your growing child with respect and as an
important individual that will make mistakes. The main consequence of saying no to negative

Essay Analysis Of Advertisements For Two Different Things
Analysis of Advertisements for Two Different Things
In order for advertisements to succesfully portray a product, they must be directed to the
appropriate intended audience. Magazines, in general, are usually geared towards a specific
audience with distinct interests. Therefore, the `ads need to be carefully designed to attract the
attentions of the magazine reader. This very concept is well displayed in the two selected, yet very
different, magazine ads from the software magnate Microsoft Corporation.
The first ad is taken from Computer Games Strategy Plus a gaming magazine, as one might infer
from the title. The product `Monster Truck

From this, one can derive the intent to parallel the

The `Project ad explains very straight forwardly what the software is capable of doing for the
readers and their businesses. What this lacks in excitement is made up for through a very complete
description of the product.
This is appropriate for the intended audience: no nonsense, no hassle businessmen. Strangely
enough, the `Monster Truck ad, in sharp contrast, discusses absolutely nothing about the actual
game itself. Instead it elaborates on other parts of the ad more important to persuading the intended
group of people.
The pictures and images are, of course, `everything to an advertisement.
They retrieve preconceptions from each individual without using words at all.
Consequently, these pictures must express a meaning related to its intended purpose in this case,
to sell the product. In the `Monster Truck ad, the first image the reader should notice is the
massive blue and yellow monster truck. Certainly because it is the largest picture, but also because
it is seemingly `standing on its back tires. My first impression of this picture was one of pure awe.

Break Day In The Trenches
The Western Front in World War One was a bleak place for soldiers. Men died from bullets,
shrapnel, concussive blasts, gas, disease, dehydration, trench foot, and exposure. The life
expectancy in the trenches was only six weeks (War History Online). In Break Day in the
Trenches , Isaac Rosenberg documents the feelings of a sentry at dawn. The sentry watches the
sun begin to rise and plucks a poppy to put behind his ear. He watches a rat and internally
converses with it, before coming under attack by an artillery barrage. In Break Day in the
Trenches , Isaac Rosenberg uses symbols of poppies and rats to support an implicit claim that
death is always nearby on the front lines. In the first line of the poem, Rosenberg evokes imagery
of death, writing, The darkness crumbles away . Darkness and death have been conjoined in
human consciousness since the beginning of time, and the use of the verb crumbles connotes
decay and death. The narrator views the sunrise, normally a symbol of life and rebirth, as a
symbol of death. He takes this unusual stance because dawn was a common time to begin artillery
barrages in anticipation of an attack. Confirming the poem is taking place before a dawn barrage,
the author calls no man s land the sleeping green , with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

bottom of the trench with poppies and cover everything in dust. An artillery shell kills the narrator

Spouses are left wondering what had happened that made their partners walked out on them after all
they have been through and the sacrifices both may have made. This is the time they realized they
do not know their partners as they thought they did and all the sacrifices made was not enough to
keep them. This is exhibited in the story The Storm by Kate Chopin where a couple seems to have

returned to their normal lives not telling neither of their partner about the adultery they committed.

Advantages Of Digital Innovators
What makes Disruptors so Powerful
As mentioned earlier, the fewer entry barriers faced by digital disruptors give them a
competitive advantage. Earlier competitors of traditional incumbent firms found it difficult to
enter markets on account of inability to replicate distributional networks or access natural
resources. The Baines limit pricing of keeping the price equal to marginal cost also posed a limit
to entry of firms. With onset of digitalization, these challenges of entry barriers do not exist, as
technology provides a cutting edge to the disruptors. The digital innovators are able to achieve
economies of scale at a faster pace. The digital platforms once innovated, enables these disruptors

traditional providers and new market players must be evaluated and, as far as necessary and
possible, be reflected in new regulation. The governance problems raised by digital technologies
threaten to further erode state autonomy, as non state actors are empowered to resolve major
societal disputes (Rosenau and Singh, 2002). Alongside facilitating the development of the
communications market to the benefit of the country, the basic rights of individuals and society
must also be protected by legal and regulatory measures. And a last, but vital, aspect of regulation is
that it should provide the market players with business security they must be able to understand and

Persuasive Speech On Net Neutrality
General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade people to be in favor of Net neutrality.
Central Idea:Net neutrality is vital for a healthy internet, economy, and to maintain access to all
information.
Introduction
I.Hello, I m Dennis Pietrandrea and I am a IST major who has done research on Net Neutrality in
preparation for this speech.
II.Net Neutrality, it s a term that I am sure most of you have never heard until today.
III.If you were to google search it, you would be presented with a search result looking something
like this. (show slide).
IV.As you can see by the image on the screen Net Neutrality is in the spotlight. The reasons for all
of this will be answered throughout the presentation. As well as why you should ... Show more

In fact, based on data collected by the U.S Commerce Department and the U.S Census. E
commerce sales for 2015 were estimated at $341.7 billion which was an increase of 14.6% from
2014. If you look at the graph you will see a consistent increase even when adjusted for seasonal
variables like holidays.
3.So now that we understand just how much the internet influences are economy lets explain how
Net Neutrality is important for the continued growth and sustainability of this market.
4.Net Neutrality has three main rules they are no blocking, no throttling, and no paid prioritization.
(Make PowerPoint slide here) Each of which as defined by the FCC is shown on the slides.
5.Now each rule effects business when it comes to the internet but the two were most concerned
about are No Paid Prioritization and No Blocking.
6.Without these rules in place Internet Providers could rig how the internet works so that certain
websites don t perform or load at all. The other thing they could do is control what you see when
you make a search. For example, if they felt the need they could block googles search engine or
redirect you to a different website like yahoo.
(Transition:This leads us into how Net Neutrality is vital for the preservation of all information on
the internet.)
III.Maintaining access to all

Magical Realism In Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Kids taken from mothers, people stripped of their cultures, and families separated. Latin American
people have gone through burdens unimaginable to other, more developed, countries around the
world. Latin America has a very distinct culture, but that culture was stripped from the people and
replaced with another culture. Latin Americas diverse culture shows in its use of magical realism
and their intriguing ways of telling history. Magical realism is used to represent the mistreated
figures and atrocious leaders in their literature. One of these writers is Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Born in Aracataca, Colombia this latino writer used magical realism in his stories to represent
the conditions in Latin America. He uses characters in his stories to represent Latin America and
how the countries people are treated. Gabriel originally went to school to be a lawyer, but later
gave that up to be a journalist. His short stories and inspirational speeches were awarded the Nobel
Prize of Literature and the International Literature Award. Although Latin America was beaten
down, they still persevered. They gained their independence and started to become the great
country they once were. Like Gabriel said in his speech, The Solitude of Latin America,
Nevertheless, in the face of oppression, pillage, and abandonment, our reply is life. This tells us
that Latin America, in the face of defeat, rises and comes back twice as strong. The constant
oppression of their people and the suffering

Golden State Warriors Case Study
After an uncanny off season, there have been a number of teams that have improved significantly.
Obviously, the Golden State Warriors improved with the addition of Kevin Durant. But, there were
teams in the Eastern Conference that made a big splash as well. As it s been known since he pretty
much stepped foot on the hardwood, the mission for teams in the East to create a team in pursuit to
dethrone King James.
A few teams made some improvements to their roster including the Boston Celtics, New York
Knicks, Chicago Bulls, and the Indiana Pacers. For the most part, the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta
Hawks either remained the same, or lost some key pieces.
With that being said, the team that may pose the biggest threat the reigning NBA Champion
Cleveland Cavaliers is the Indiana Pacers. Due to the Raptors and Hawks failing to improve their
roster, that basically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, believe it or not under new head coach Nate McMillian, the Pacers are adapting to the modern
style of basketball. On May 5th, team president Larry Bird decided not to retain former head coach
Frank Vogel. His new vision for the Pacers is to push the tempo and create more opportunities at the
three point line.
Bird received a ton of criticism for the move since McMillian didn t seem to fit that plan at all. In
fact, when McMillian coached the Seattle SuperSonics (2000 2005) and the Portland TrailBlazers
(2005 2012), he ran the complete opposite style of basketball.
We ve seen it year in and year out. The teams that go the deepest in their roster are the ones that
win it all. Two years ago with Golden State, and last year with Cleveland. The Pacers have the
nucleus to contend in the East this season. Led by rising star PG 13 , Jeff Teague, Al Jefferson,
Turner, C.J. Miles, Rodney Stuckey, Thaddeus Young, and company this team has a legit first and

The Effects Of Religiosity And Culture On Adolescent Std...
Abstract According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 65 percent of teens
have had sex by the time they were seniors in high school . Under aged sex is a prevalent activity
in today s society; henceforth, starting this act from a younger age results in an increase in sexual
partners over one s lifespan, which, because of the nature of the activity, gives a greater risk of
sexually transmitted diseases. As a result, it is important to understand: adolescent STD rates, the
factors that may contribute to them and the possible preventable variables that could aid in
alleviating the rate of sexually transmitted diseases transmitted amongst adolescents. To further
understand the effects of religiosity and culture, this review of literature will discover the negative
and positive correlations, and the associations certain variables obtained to influence the
adolescent STD rates. The possible major factors that contribute to high adolescent STD rates are:
adolescent relationships, sexual violence, lack of sexual knowledge, and lack of parental guidance.
However, religiosity and culture plays both a positive and a negative preventive strategy in slowing
down adolescent STD rates. To further reduce rates of adolescent sexually transmitted diseases,
more research is needed to measure the effectiveness of the different types of religions and cultures.

Parker and I walked into the training area. I had changed into my mission outfit. The mechanical
door opened and we walked into the training area. The training area is a large and enclosed
training ground. The training ground was a lot different from where the fleshies, which was
what we called the recruits, had practiced for the past few months. The room looked like a cross
between an arena and a laboratory or something. It was somehow dark with only a few lights on
mostly only on the part where the soldiers will sit and up on the balconies where several armed
soldiers were posted. The room looked sterile and the middle part of the room is surrounded by
thick glass that separated it from the rest of the room. The darkness of the room, covered
whatever it was beyond the thick glass. The room definitely gave a serious and dangerous feel to
those who were in it. Everyone looked at us. I looked at the team of fleshies who immediately
saluted me as a superior officer. I saluted back. At ease gentlemen, I commanded, making the
soldiers sit down in unison. I looked at Parker and waited for him to start his briefing. Now you

Robert Altman s Film Adaptation of Raymond Carver s Short Cuts
The characters in Robert Altman s film adaptation of the Raymond Carver anthology Short Cuts
think they re islands entire of themselves. They suspect their lives and their worlds of isolation,
alienation, separation, in multiple senses of the words. They fail to see, or perhaps purposely ignore,
connections between themselves and those around them, between their actions and the
ramifications of those actions. And while a typical director of a slice of life work might be content to
show all these people in their ignorance of connections, what makes Altman s final product so
marvelous is the way he toys with them, and the comments he makes about them.
The obvious route ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But mostly it shows in the acting, in the narrative. The scene in which Gordon and Honey get
each other s sets of photographs back from the developer is one of the most noticeable examples
of this: the characters stories are thoroughly independent of each other, and they might never
have interacted if not for this scene. One of its main purposes is simply to let us know that all of
these people are existing in the same world, the same town, that in some way, in a city inhabited
by hundreds of thousands of people, the lives of these particular people do intersect. A similar
function is served by the scene in which Jerry comes to clean the Finnigans pool. Here we learn
that the Finnigans live next door to Tess and Zoe, whose pool Jerry will later clean (because of the
interaction in this scene), and both of whom are musicians who will eventually perform for perhaps
a quarter to a third of the cast. Altman s eight track dialogue technique is used effectively here to
reinforce the notion that the characters spatial proximity doesn t prevent them from leading isolated
lives.
Another scene which, in my mind, is even better for this purpose is the one in which we first see
the bakery. In this, three storylines converge: Stormy buys a cake for Betty, Ann places an order
for Casey s birthday cake, and Claire stops in on her way to a performance

A Brief Look at Karl Marx
A person does not have to positively impact the world to be influential. Karl Marx certainly left a
mark on the world, but whether his impact was revolutionary or simply detrimental is up to debate.
Marx was largely influenced by the ideas of Enlightenment figures like Adam Smith, David Ricardo,
and Hegel. Most know him in regard to his writing the Communist Manifesto and its influence on
revolutions that led to the formation of notoriously oppressive communist states. His ideas form the
base of modern international communism, and for that Michael Hart gives Karl Marxa ranking of
twenty seven in his book The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History. This
ranking seems accurate given the factors that influenced him, his accomplishments, and their
effects on the world. Karl Marx drew from the philosophies of the great thinkers of his time to
perfect his ideal communist system. He was born into a time when ideas of the Enlightenment
were widespread. He read the works of Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and the Comte de Saint
Simon (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). However, he was especially influenced by G.W.F.
Hegel, the most prominent philosopher in Germany in the early 1800s (Microsoft Encarta). Hegel
believed that ideas evolve through a continual process of contradiction and resolution and that
human history is driven by this evolution. Consequently, Marx developed the belief that history
evolves through a series of conflicts in a predictable, unavoidable

The Importance Of Folate As A Water Soluble B Vitamin
Folate
Folate is a water soluble B vitamin that is found in a wide variety of foods such as vegetables
(asparagus and spinach), lentils, dry beans, fruits and whole grain cereals.6 Apart from its
traditional name, folate is also referred to by its many physiologic forms, folic acid, folinic acid
(leukovorin) or 5 methyltetrahydrofolate (5 MTHF).20 Once absorbed through the small intestines
(specifically jejunum), folate undergoes several activation reactions within the liver leading to
various different biologically active forms. Chief among these is the formation of 5 MTHF, its
circulatory form within the blood that can freely cross the blood brain barrier and subsequently
into the cerebrospinal fluid. This form goes on to play a crucial ... Show more content on

Women of childbearing age are recommended to take 600mcg DFE during pregnancy, starting
before conception if possible and 500ug while breastfeeding. However, when adequate physiologic
levels of folate decline it can lead to serious and potentially life threatening conditions. Children
born to mothers with inadequate intake of supplemental folic acid during pregnancy suffer from
devastating neural tube defects. Adults often present with symptoms of macrocytic or
megaloblastic anemia and increased levels of the amino acid homocystein, which can be
potentially neurotoxic.20 Several studies have also linked folate deficiency to increased risk for
developing cognitive deficits and depression.20
Folate deficiency has several different causes. Most apparent among these is inadequate dietary
intake of B vitamins.20 Several drugs that can lead to folate deficiency are oral contraceptives,
antibiotics, anticonvulsants, antacids and alcohol. Also, patients with cancer often experience rapid
depletion of stores due to overactive cellular proliferation.20 Other prominent causes can include
malabsorption through the jejunum due to inborn errors of metabolism, bacterial overgrowth or
intestinal inflammatory conditions (e.g., Atrophic Gastritis, IBD). Finally, people with genetic
polymorphisms of the C677T and A1298C variants of 5, 10 methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase
(MTHFR) gene show reduced enzyme activity and lower efficiency of folate

My First Year Of High School
It was the year 2014 and summer had come to a close. My mind had suddenly switched from
lounging on the warm, sandy beach and being gently kissed by sunshine to traumatizing, stressful
high school. My first year of high school what was it going to be like? Who was I going to be
friends with? Am I going to get terrible grades? These thoughts flooded my mindand I was nervous.
Thinking about being a highschooler made my throat close up and my heart beat faster. I was
overcome with fear and excitement, going into the unknown and stepping into a freaky future.
Soon the time had come to experience my classes that I had carefully selected earlier in the
summer. I was especially excited, however, about my elective that I had chosen: classical drawing.
Little did I realize that this decision would teach me perseverance and work ethic, while opening up
a world of possibilities. I had decided to enroll in a class called Classical Drawing by Andrea
Mosley. Miss Mosley is an incredible artist, who was taught by John Angel, a former student of
the great Pietro Annigon. She was taught for four years in Florence, Italy and mastered her
incredible ability to draw. This knowledge only made me more intrigued but exceptionally
anxious. I didn t know what to expect from such a well taught artist. I began to doubt myself even
before the class started, assuming I couldn t draw nearly as well as she. The time had come. It was
a Wednesday afternoon and I walked into class, hoping

Information Centric Networking ( Icn )
Abstract: Information Centric Networking (ICN) is set to replace the current internet architecture
which is based on end to end communication between hosts. The ICN approach to the network of
the future has recently been and is being explored by a number of research projects from Europe
and in the United States. This paper provides a review on four Information Centric Networking
(ICN) architectures based on objects/contents naming, name Resolution and data routing. The
review highlights and briefly describes the naming structures, operation of name resolution and data
routing processes of DONA, PURSUIT, NetInf/MDHT and NDN. A summary in tabular form and a

African American Perspective in Early 20th Century America
Throughout the era after the Civil War, Blacks struggled to show themselves and create an identity
outside of the confines of slavery. There were many different ideas that display how Black should
be perceived and how Blacks should carry themselves in order to uplift the race. Uplifting the race
was one of the most influential ideas of the time. Miscegenation, sexuality, and education are just
three of the issues that were influenced by the racial attitudes of the times. Many authors
commented on these issues and the other issues of the time. Nella Larsen, Booker T. Washington,

We make our customs lightly; once made, like our sins, they grip us in bands of steel, we
become creatures of our creations. By one standard the office boy should have never been born.
Yet he is a son of Adam and came into existence in the way ordained by God from the beginning
of the world (Chestnutt, 24). Chestnutt shows the judge in the same struggle that he leaves his
reader feelings. The customs of society say one thing; yet, true seems to be saying another.
Chestnutt leaves his readers with this dichotomy in his book. Chestnutt balances between
Larsen and Washington s views. He makes his reader think though the reasons why or why not
miscegenation should or should not be allowed. Sexuality was also an issue for Blacks in this
time period. Most black women were classified as either a respectable, almost asexual, lady or a
whore. They were classified as a mammy or a jezebel. There was a dichotomy between what
women were allowed to be. Sexual desire needed to be separate from respectability. And
respectability was highly prized. Larsen s character Helga struggles greatly with this dichotomy
between sexual desire and respectability. She has been taught to be a respectable woman in order to
uplift the race and that black women should be perceived in a certain way. Larsen writes of Helga

How Does Paine Present The Struggles At Valley Forge
Looking Past the Struggles at Valley Forge THESE are the times that try men s souls. The
summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their
country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. (Paine 153)
The winter at Valley Forge, during 1777, held small struggles. like missing your family, to the great
struggles of almost dying from starvation and dysentery. The soldiers at Valley Forge
had little food
to eat and were either too cold or could not breath because of the smoke in the cabins. The men
that lived during that time, however, did not give up. They did not stop to order some pizza of
their iphone when they were hungry. Even after watching men stop and take their last breath, they
kept moving forward through the trials. Though some would think this crazy, if I were at Valley
Forge during the winter of 1777 and 1778 I would have decided to re enlist for three reasons which

money to buy the things they use to survive like food, clothes, etc. This reason would cause me to

There are several different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the

The Process Of Making Flour Essay
Today, grain are collecting and threshing by harvesting machines with large headers to put it in a
grain wagon in order to transfer it to be stored (see Fig. 2). Making flour process is one of the
most important steps before bread making that is obtained by grinding the seeds in a very huge
milling machine (see Fig. 3). The process of making breadstarts with collecting the ingredients like
sugar, flour, milk, malt, salt and storing them in storage. Certain types of Lorries carry flour
from which different types of bread are made of. Later on, it is put into containers that are found
in a separate place taking the form of a tower. Other ingredients are left in the storage area (see
Fig. 4). Special dough kneading machine that is provided with a powerful double screw is
utilized in kneading process. While the ingredients are mixing together, the machine starts from
a low to a high speed. The dough became ready during five minutes before transporting it to the
next place where it is proportioned (see Fig. 5). Divider is a very special machine used to divide

Stanley Milgram Experiment
Stanley Milgram was a psychologist at Yale University who was interested in the levels of
obedience people shown to an authority figure. Obedience is a type of social influence whereby
somebody acts in response to a direct order from another person, it is defined as compliance with
commands given by an authority figure . (LLC, 2016). Milgram studied obedience in 1963 by
carrying out a laboratory experiment, Milgram wanted to test the idea that German s are different
as the Germans obeyed Hitler s orders during the holocaust. (Slapes, 2006). Milgram s laboratory

Bigger s Self Realization in Native Son Essay example
Bigger s Self Realization in Native Son
Although today we live in a nation, which has abolished
slavery, the gap between the whites and the blacks during the early stages of
America s development has plainly carried into the present. In Native Son,
author Richard Wright illustrates this racial gap, in addition to demonstrating
how white oppression upon blacks is capable of producing revengeful individuals,
not to mention being an immoral act in itself. Bigger Thomas is one of those
individuals, who discovers his capacity to rebel through acts of murder against
the white society, which has for long oppressed his family, friends, and himself.

Book three of the novel offers an emotional confusion within the mind of
Bigger, which soon leads him to contrive a self realization. Immediately one
observes that toward no one in the world did he (Bigger) feel any fear
now (254). This is a recent change in Bigger s mind set. He knows that he has
pushed himself to the limits, and he is in control of what he says and does. He
tries firmly to stifle all feeling in him[self] (262) when talking to his
visitors in the jail, because he feared that they would make him feel
remorseful (262). In this manner, he is able to not confuse his thoughts with
any feelings, so he can sort out his ideas. This is the self isolating process,
which occurs mentally, and this enables Bigger to formulate a justification for
his sins. Men do not like to feel that they are guilty of wrong, and if you
make them feel guilt, they will try desperately to justify it on any
grounds (360), which is precisely what Bigger is attempting through mental
detachment. Bigger didn t know I (he) was really alive in this world
until (392) he killed Mary Dalton. Bigger realizes that he committed the
murders in order to establish his existence in this world.

Pursuing Doctoral Studies For Academic Excellence Essay
I am mostly interested in pursuing doctoral studies to achieve my ultimate goal to become a
prolific researcher as well as an inspiring, knowledgeable university level teacher. Consequently,
in the short term, my goal is to gain knowledge and skills related to research and teaching
especially during my PhD program. Additionally, in the long run, I will spend most of my time
practicing the knowledge and skills that I will have already acquired by teaching classes and
seminars, doing research projects, as well as writing qualified academic articles and books. I will
dedicate most of the time that I have after gaining a Doctoratedegree in Business to the
advancement of the academic excellence.
In the meantime, I realize that at the moment my business knowledge is predominantly empirical
gained mostly from my background experience both professional and academic (MBA). It is
wide in nature as it covers many aspects of business practices. Yet, I miss the depth of the
business knowledge. Therefore, my understanding on a more theoretical background of business
and economic phenomena is limited. Pursuing a doctoral study would undoubtedly be necessary
for me to enhance my understanding, particularly in terms of theory and concept. It is not only in
terms of my comprehension of the subjects per se but also in terms of skills necessary in theory
building and research capability. Those are, I deem, very critical elements in academic excellence.
Moreover, I believe, all of these are

Role Of Jonas The Hero In The Giver
Jonas, the main character of The Giver is easily argued about from time to time. Is he a hero or
not? I definitely think and know that Jonas is a hero in the book, The Giver.
Jonas is an eleven at the time that the book starts. He has a younger sister named Lily. In this book,
they live in a small community of a utopia. Each December, each and every member of the
community turns one year older. When a member of a community turns 12, they get assigned to a
position that benefits the community. Jonas had been assigned Receiver of Memory. This position
is meant to keep all of the memories of the communities and transfer them to the next receiver. The
previous receiver transferred the memories to Jonas. These memories were horrible.
The memories that the previous receiver transferred to Jonas were the memories of our time; war,
poachers, terrorists, suicide, etc. Jonas experienced great pain from these memories. Then, Jonas
saw a video of a ceremony of release. His father, given the assignment of nurturer was performing
the task. A ceremony of release is when they release members of the community to another
community outside of their utopia. They usually release children who are too ... Show more content

Forex Market Is A World Largest Market Essay
Ranjit Sah Comp I Research paper Mrs. Minor Forex Market Thesis: Forex market is a world
largest market. You can trade in forex from anywhere in the world. It s your world, trade it to
make money under less risk. Introduction: The remote trade showcase (forex, FX, or coin
market) is a worldwide decentralized market for the exchanging of monetary forms. This
incorporates all parts of purchasing, offering and trading monetary forms at present or decided
costs. As far as volume of exchanging, it is by a long shot the biggest market in the world. 1.The
primary members in this market are the bigger global banks. Money related bases on the world
capacity as grapples of exchanging between an extensive variety of numerous sorts of purchasers
and merchants all day and all night, except for ends of the week. The outside trade showcase does
not decide the relative estimations of various monetary forms, but rather sets the present market
cost of the estimation of one coin as requested against another. The outside trade showcase works
through monetary foundations, and it works on a few levels. Off camera banks swing to a littler
number of monetary firms known as merchants , who are effectively required in substantial
amounts of remote trade exchanging. Most outside trade merchants are banks, so this off camera
market is some of the time called the interbank showcase , inspite of the fact that a couple

Electronic Health Record System
Electronic health record systems are very helpful in the outpatient setting, but EHRs are only as
good as the staff and the staff that input data into the system. Electronic Health Record systems
have many functional applications in the outpatient setting. Task lists, communication with others
within the practice, and improving billing accuracy and claims, are just three of the many
functional applications EHRs provide to clinical end users in an outpatient setting. By creating day

Tasks inputs can be viewed by one single individual or by the entire department. By making daily
tasks available to all individuals, the what are we going to do today? question is eliminated and
staff members are given direction as to what is expected of them that day, week, or month.
Communication functionality is an electronic health record system creates and harbors an
atmosphere of open communication. Everyone in an outpatient clinic manages patients. EHRs help
manage not only communication between staff but also patient communication. EHRs can help
manage communication of incoming patients, or follow ups. Electronic health records should not
replace face to face communication between staff members and patients. Electronic health record
systems should improve and add value to staff and patient communication. By improving patient
communication using EHRs, claims and billing would be improved. Taking the guesswork out of
coding, building a claim, and billing for reimbursement are functional applications of electronic
health record systems in an outpatient setting. Coding is the most important process in the
reimbursement process. Electronic health record systems provide an electronic form of finding
and signing codes to patient visits. By taking the guesswork and the time that a coder would take
to look for appropriate codes to build patient claims. EHRs help outpatient coders look for correct
codes, assign codes to services provided, build claims, and submit claims for billing and
reimbursement. Which would translate into faster patient turn around times and faster
reimbursement for services provided to

Compensation Philosophy Paper
Compensation Philosophy
It most likely goes without saying that people who work for a living do so in order to get paid.
Everyone has bills and living expenses that need to be paid; therefore, individuals exchange our
time for a paycheck so these expenses can be addressed. However, since most people spend more
time at work than they do with their families, there should to be a larger reason than pay that
drives each of us to get up every morning to go to a job. It is the responsibility of the organization
to provide its employees with that reason, and it comes in the form of a compensation philosophy. It
is the intention of this paper to explain the need and rationale for an organization to have a

Compensation in these organizations has many faces. Employee compensation may look quite a bit
different that that of the executives, and certainly different from that of the stockholders

might look for a Fortune 500 Company:
Compensation Philosophy
It is the key compensation goal of this organization to offer compensation in such a manner as to
encourage innovation, creativity, camaraderie, and shareholder value in order to attract and retain
the highest quality employees available in the industry. Our compensation program is to be based
upon the following five components:
1.As a Fortune 500 Company, our compensation is designed not only to attract and retain high
performing corporate professionals, but also to ensure the package is designed with shareholder
interests as the basis of its existence.

Emancipation Proclamation Significance
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by president Lincoln on September twenty second,
1862. Its primary significance was to grant freedom to the African American slaves in the
confederate states. The only way for the owners to keep their slaves was if they returned to the
union by the following January first, 1863. Lincoln did not want to share his thoughts on slavery
before this point because he was afraid the northern Democratic Party along with border slave
states would turn against the Union if he made a move against slavery beforehand 1862. Lincoln s
ideals on slavery starts to take a strong stance letting the people know he is against it and issues this

father of computer science and eventually became a gay rights icon for his persecution due to his
homosexuality. He was also extremely important in winning the second world war, developing the
world s п¬Ѓrst computer to combat and break the German message encrypting Enigma machine. In
fact, Winston Churchill, one of the most prominent п¬Ѓgures of World War II, let alone the 20th

At the time, homosexuality was illegal in the UK and so Turing was charged with gross
indecency. He was then given the choice of being imprisoned or chemically castrated with
estrogen hormone injections, choosing the latter. Turing s conviction also meant his security
clearance was revoked and he was barred from his cryptographic consultancy for the British
government. The treatments subjected him to years of pain and mental relapses from the
hormonal imbalance, acting like a daily form of chemical torture. His once amazing brilliance
slowly began to wither as he became psychologically traumatized from the drugs. He began to
shake frequently as if he had Parkinson s disease and at one point stabbed himself in his leg with a
knife. Finally, on June 8th, 1954, Turing s cleaner found him dead. It appeared that Turing
committed suicide and poisoned himself using a cyanide laced apple. In 1966, the annual Turing

The Ethics Of Amateurism And College Athletes
Salaries, wages, and compensations have always been major and generally controversial topics
in democratic America. And, with the rising popularity of college athletics, particularly football,
compensation (or lack thereof) for college athletes has recently been a hot topic in American
sports. While some of the debate stems from the similarity between responsibilities college
athletes have to their programs and those of professionals, most of the issue involves the
principles of amateurism. Recent scandals involving college athletes such as Terrelle Pryor,
Johnny Manziel, and Todd Gurley have raised questions about the ethics of amateurism,
particularly with regard to the NCAA organization. The issue is found in a very gray area, where
there is most likely no definitive one size fits all solution, but the resolution of this issue is one
that will change and shape the future of college athletics across the national landscape. For as long
as second level institutions have sponsored sports teams to represent their universities, there have
been regulations (both official and unofficial) on the athletes, including their safety and benefits.
This led to the formation of the NCAA in 1906. The NCAA s formation in the beginning was to
preserve the sport itself in a time when the sport was perceived as too dangerous to be played.
United States President Theodore Roosevelt actually inadvertently set the NCAA in motion when
he convened thirteen footballrepresentatives (Treadway,

  • 3. Sex Education And Comprehensive Sexual Education Let s talk about sex. Stances on comprehensive sexual education vary, whether it be from religious beliefs or past experiences, different views are held throughout. It is in the interests of society in general... for every secondary school pupil to be in receipt of sexual education (Cumper 16). The phrase it s better to be safe than sorry applies heavily on the topic of sex education, the idea of a pregnant and STD ridden 15 year old tends to frighten a million times more than the thought of proper contraception use and safe sexual encounters. Although the likeliness of a parent wanting their teen to engage in sex remains extremely low, most would prefer the latter. Comprehensive sexual education should be implemented in all schools... Abstinence only sex education programs focus on abstinence as the standard and preferred lifestyle for young people and emphasize the benefits of refraining from intercourse ( Flynn 5). While abstinence only education discusses contraceptives, the idea of remaining pure until marriage is pushed through out. Even though there are numerous forms of sex ed, the former is ideal due to teenagers being knowledgeable about either path they take, and doing so safely. The infamous ideal of waiting until marriage, no matter if it s right or not, is claimed as the set standard of youth: Nationally, rates of teen sexual activity have declined over the past fifteen years, yet even so, about half of all high school youth report having sex and more than one in five report having had four or more partners by the time they graduate from high school (Dailard 73). Some teens, in fact about half are able to abstain from sex, meaning no pregnancy, and no STDs and the number is only growing. There is no question...that increased abstinence meaning delayed vaginal intercourse among young people has played a role in reducing both teen pregnancy rates in the United States and HIV rates in at least one developing country. • 5. The Heart Of Cardiac Muscle Essay INTRODUCTION The cardiac muscle, more commonly known as the heart muscle, is quite different from the more familiar know skeletal muscle. Unlike skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle is able to conduct its own electrical impulses allowing it to contract and relax spontaneously without being told to by the brain or any other organ (Marieb, Mitchell, p. 512). This is due to the constant leakage of sodium ions into the mainly potassium filled cells which then eventually lead to action potentials causing the heartto beat rhythmically (Mariev, Mitchell, p.512) this rhythm is more commonly referred to as one s heartbeat. From this BIOPAC laboratory, the student(s) should learn how different stimuli will affect a resting heart rate. Due to the fact that cardiac muscleis able to create action potentials on its own, a change in chemical, temperature, and ionic balance causes the heart to react differently and change its rhythm of beats by either slowing down or speeding up. More specifically, by saturating the heart with histamine the heart rate should speed up, while pilocarpine will cause the heart to substantially slow, and finally the addition of epinephrine will cause the resting heart rate to speed up. • 6. The Role Of Death In Western American Culture Many cultures find it important to honor the deceased, simply having a funeral is an example of this. In Western Africa, different groups used different art as a way to honor the memory of their people who had died. Africans, like other cultures, have different reasons for memorializing the dead, but it comes down the idea that deathis not the end. The Dogon people, for example, memorialized the dead by using art in the form of colorful masks worn during a performance at the funerals. Their reasoning for this other than to honor the deceased was to lead their souls to where their ancestors are. This ritual is called a dama, and if they failed to do this, the souls of the dead would not be freed to the afterlife. These masks have a more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Romeo And Juliet Dialectical Journal Creative Title Imagine if you were walking down the aisle on your wedding day which is meant to be the best day ever, but the person at the end is a stranger. How would you like if the day you have been waiting all your life is just practically handed to you and isn t even what you wanted or who you wanted to be with. Well, this is actually how some people s lives happen for them. Such as they have no say in who they marry because their parents are in control of it all. In Romeo and Juliet this is the same situation that Juliet and Paris went through in the story. Like how Juliet s parents wanted her to marry Paris at the age of fourteen. Juliet s family was for arranging marriage since they were arranged when they got married, but on the other hand Juliet was very against the whole idea of marrying at fourteen, especially since she was very in love with Romeo even though their two families hated each other. This is a big deal when things are arranged for people even though some people don t see it. For example, Tim Arango stated, I tried to kill myself, she said. I did not want to get married. I was forced to get engaged (Arango). This is showing how the amount of stress put on people can have severe endings leading to death. In like manner Arango also stated that, Officials are alarmed by what they described as a worsening epidemic of suicides, particularly among young women tormented by being forced to marry to young, to someone they do not love . So even though some people do realize the amount of stress put on people it is still necessary that everyone needs to realize what could happen if you force something to happen when it s not meant to be. One city comes to mind when thinking about the United Arab Emirates, Dubai. The discovery of oil in this emirate allowed for massive infrastructure projects and transportation improvements to attract foreign investors and visitors. This report examines how the city of Dubai has changed by developing tourism. Phases of Development Dubai has undergone four major development phases since its beginning. The very first stage happened around 1900 1955 and had some initial issues expanding due to some economic hardships and a huge increase in the population. From 1956 1970, Dubai began its second phase of development based on a 1960 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some problems the city is now facing include land ownership/distribution, adequate housing, modern public transportation systems and the polarization of the low income class and the wealthy. Land and housing challenges. One of the main problems encountered with fast paced urbanization is land ownership and the process of updating dilapidated housing facilities. According to state policy, all national males over the age of 20 must receive a plot of land that is at least 15000 square feet. Dubai is a predominantly automobile driven state. A major challenge the city faces is creating a modern transportation system in the rapidly expanding urban area. As most people travel by automobile, fewer than 5% of person trips are by public transport. The automobile dependent city encounters high volume traffic during peak hours and hardly adequate parking facilities. Another hardship faced is economic classification of classes. Although Dubai is rich from oil, much of that money is controlled by the wealthy and powerful upper class especially the Sheik. In principle everyone is welcome in the awe inspiring edifices sprawling across the city, nonetheless this theory is confounded by reality: only those that are either customers or nationals of the Emirate can meet the expense of much of these structures, with innumerable low income migrants essentially excluded by a subtle system of priority entries, fees and membership cards (Acuto, ... • 12. Realism s Effect on Chekhov and Stanislavsky, and their... Realism played a huge role in the lives of Anton Chekhov and Konstantin Stanislavsky. Both men made a huge impact on the world of theatre, and results are still seen today. Elements from Chekhov s plays have influenced playwrights that came after him, like the works of Tennessee Williams, who listed that Chekhov had a huge impact on his writing. Stanislavsky s acting system, based on acting truthfully, inspired many other acting systems that are still used today. Realism was a huge movement in late 1800s to early 1900s. All art forms were influenced by it. Writers, artists, actors and more started taking a more simple direction and tried to depict life as it actually was. Vladimir Nemirovich Danchenko and Konstantin Stanislavsky founded the Moscow Art Theatre on June 22, 1897, during an 18 hour luncheon at the Slavyanski Bazar (The Stanislavsky Century). The two had set out to reform Russian theatre and had the common goal in mind to create great art. Before they set their rules and regulations into place, none officially existed. Actors would show up either drunk or late and not have their lines learned. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich wanted a place where there would be discipline and respect and great art, thus the Moscow Art Theatre was born (The Stanislavsky Century). Konstantin Stanislavsky, himself, also practiced ideas of naturalism. He was a theatre practitioner and his roles served as actor and director, and he created the first acting method. He functioned as the artistic director of the Moscow Art Theatre. In A Sourcebook for Naturalist Theatre, there was a comparative statement to Chekhov and Stanislavsky which read: In addition to the concept of acting truly , the practical correlative to Chekhov s aim of depicting life as it really is , this extract outlines one of the most important keys to Stanislavsky s system: establishing objectives, which in terms of acting is the equivalent to the naturalists focus on motivation (Innes 54). It s not a unilateral experience, but there are commonalities between adult students; there are a lot of them. Toward the end of my almost final year of undergraduate studies, I was sitting with Annie, another thirtyish former bartender, smoking cigarettes and trying to commiserate. Annie was in tears, shocked that she would be the only non traditional student from our department walking in our school s graduation ceremony. Mean Girls Sociology Essay Stacey Smith 2/14/2013 Sociology 101 George Kinder Movies And Their Messages In the movie Mean Girls, released in April of 2004, you see the traditional story about the new girl in school and the stereotypes that engulf the adolescent environment. Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, shows us what life at a corrupted school could be like for teens that are not so familiar with the American ways of socialization and surviving the potentially threatening lifestyle it could lead on. Sadly, children succumb to it as a result of a dire need to fit in. As the teachers could care less about what s going on in their kids love lives, the kids mostly think of it as the center of their life at the time. A level of maturity and irresponsibility come in with these thoughts and priorities. Cady also finds herself making small references back to her original home, Africa. She sees the other students as simple jungle animals in the wild, survival of the fittest at its best. That s probably the best metaphor someone could compare high school to, a jungle. An incontrollable area where children have to grow up and find out who they are and where they fit in and what they should do. When peers such as your friends or classmates influence your life without you realizing it, it is determined it s peer pressure. Almost every child is victim to this idea of peer pressure at some age or the other. It s an identity crisis, while also a constant comparison by parents and teachers, that makes children follow the leader in terms of the social scale. Kids, being in the process of forming an identity, needs the support and direction by those around them. The only way possible of making your child strong enough to beat peer pressure is to help him build confidence and to treat your growing child with respect and as an important individual that will make mistakes. Men died from bullets, shrapnel, concussive blasts, gas, disease, dehydration, trench foot, and exposure. The life expectancy in the trenches was only six weeks (War History Online). In Break Day in the Trenches , Isaac Rosenberg documents the feelings of a sentry at dawn. The sentry watches the sun begin to rise and plucks a poppy to put behind his ear. He watches a rat and internally converses with it, before coming under attack by an artillery barrage. In Break Day in the Trenches , Isaac Rosenberg uses symbols of poppies and rats to support an implicit claim that death is always nearby on the front lines. In the first line of the poem, Rosenberg evokes imagery of death, writing, The darkness crumbles away . Darkness and death have been conjoined in human consciousness since the beginning of time, and the use of the verb crumbles connotes decay and death. The narrator views the sunrise, normally a symbol of life and rebirth, as a symbol of death. Latin American people have gone through burdens unimaginable to other, more developed, countries around the world. Latin America has a very distinct culture, but that culture was stripped from the people and replaced with another culture. Latin Americas diverse culture shows in its use of magical realism and their intriguing ways of telling history. Magical realism is used to represent the mistreated figures and atrocious leaders in their literature. One of these writers is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Born in Aracataca, Colombia this latino writer used magical realism in his stories to represent the conditions in Latin America. He uses characters in his stories to represent Latin America and how the countries people are treated. Gabriel originally went to school to be a lawyer, but later gave that up to be a journalist. His short stories and inspirational speeches were awarded the Nobel Prize of Literature and the International Literature Award. Although Latin America was beaten down, they still persevered. They gained their independence and started to become the great country they once were. Like Gabriel said in his speech, The Solitude of Latin America, Nevertheless, in the face of oppression, pillage, and abandonment, our reply is life. Abstract According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 65 percent of teens have had sex by the time they were seniors in high school . Under aged sex is a prevalent activity in today s society; henceforth, starting this act from a younger age results in an increase in sexual partners over one s lifespan, which, because of the nature of the activity, gives a greater risk of sexually transmitted diseases. As a result, it is important to understand: adolescent STD rates, the factors that may contribute to them and the possible preventable variables that could aid in alleviating the rate of sexually transmitted diseases transmitted amongst adolescents. To further understand the effects of religiosity and culture, this review of literature will discover the negative and positive correlations, and the associations certain variables obtained to influence the adolescent STD rates. The possible major factors that contribute to high adolescent STD rates are: adolescent relationships, sexual violence, lack of sexual knowledge, and lack of parental guidance. However, religiosity and culture plays both a positive and a negative preventive strategy in slowing down adolescent STD rates. To further reduce rates of adolescent sexually transmitted diseases, more research is needed to measure the effectiveness of the different types of religions and cultures. Robert Altman s Film Adaptation of Raymond Carver s Short Cuts The characters in Robert Altman s film adaptation of the Raymond Carver anthology Short Cuts think they re islands entire of themselves. They suspect their lives and their worlds of isolation, alienation, separation, in multiple senses of the words. They fail to see, or perhaps purposely ignore, connections between themselves and those around them, between their actions and the ramifications of those actions. The obvious route ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But mostly it shows in the acting, in the narrative. The scene in which Gordon and Honey get each other s sets of photographs back from the developer is one of the most noticeable examples of this: the characters stories are thoroughly independent of each other, and they might never have interacted if not for this scene. One of its main purposes is simply to let us know that all of these people are existing in the same world, the same town, that in some way, in a city inhabited by hundreds of thousands of people, the lives of these particular people do intersect. A similar function is served by the scene in which Jerry comes to clean the Finnigans pool. Here we learn that the Finnigans live next door to Tess and Zoe, whose pool Jerry will later clean (because of the interaction in this scene), and both of whom are musicians who will eventually perform for perhaps a quarter to a third of the cast. Altman s eight track dialogue technique is used effectively here to reinforce the notion that the characters spatial proximity doesn t prevent them from leading isolated lives. Karl Marx certainly left a mark on the world, but whether his impact was revolutionary or simply detrimental is up to debate. Marx was largely influenced by the ideas of Enlightenment figures like Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and Hegel. Most know him in regard to his writing the Communist Manifesto and its influence on revolutions that led to the formation of notoriously oppressive communist states. His ideas form the base of modern international communism, and for that Michael Hart gives Karl Marxa ranking of twenty seven in his book The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History. This ranking seems accurate given the factors that influenced him, his accomplishments, and their effects on the world. Karl Marx drew from the philosophies of the great thinkers of his time to perfect his ideal communist system. He was born into a time when ideas of the Enlightenment were widespread. He read the works of Adam Smith, David Ricardo, and the Comte de Saint Simon (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). However, he was especially influenced by G.W.F. Hegel, the most prominent philosopher in Germany in the early 1800s (Microsoft Encarta). This paper provides a review on four Information Centric Networking (ICN) architectures based on objects/contents naming, name Resolution and data routing. The review highlights and briefly describes the naming structures, operation of name resolution and data routing processes of DONA, PURSUIT, NetInf/MDHT and NDN. A summary in tabular form and a comparative study of different architectures is given. Keywords: ICN, Naming of ICN, Name Resolution and Data Routing of ICN. I.INTRODUCTION Information centric networking (ICN) is the hot research topic in recent years, with various research initiatives like DONA [1], CCN/NDN [2][10][16] PSIRP/PURSUIT [3][4][8][11][12], 4WARD [13], CONVERGENCE[15], NetInf [9], SAIL[17],COMET [5 7][14]), MobilityFirst [18] and ANR Connect [19] targeting this emerging research area with the aim of shifting from the current Internet architecture which is built and designed for a host to host communications model. The Internet architecture today has experienced rapid growth in network traffic of which most of the traffics are characterized by the content retrieval applications running on top of the Internet architecture. African American Perspective in Early 20th Century America Throughout the era after the Civil War, Blacks struggled to show themselves and create an identity outside of the confines of slavery. There were many different ideas that display how Black should be perceived and how Blacks should carry themselves in order to uplift the race. Uplifting the race was one of the most influential ideas of the time. Miscegenation, sexuality, and education are just three of the issues that were influenced by the racial attitudes of the times. Many authors commented on these issues and the other issues of the time. Nella Larsen, Booker T. Washington, and Charles Chestnutt are three authors that share their views with their readers. We make our customs lightly; once made, like our sins, they grip us in bands of steel, we become creatures of our creations. By one standard the office boy should have never been born. Yet he is a son of Adam and came into existence in the way ordained by God from the beginning of the world (Chestnutt, 24). Chestnutt shows the judge in the same struggle that he leaves his reader feelings. The customs of society say one thing; yet, true seems to be saying another. Chestnutt leaves his readers with this dichotomy in his book. Chestnutt balances between Larsen and Washington s views. He makes his reader think though the reasons why or why not miscegenation should or should not be allowed. Sexuality was also an issue for Blacks in this time period. Most black women were classified as either a respectable, almost asexual, lady or a whore. They were classified as a mammy or a jezebel. There was a dichotomy between what women were allowed to be. Sexual desire needed to be separate from respectability. And respectability was highly prized. Larsen s character Helga struggles greatly with this dichotomy between sexual desire and respectability. She has been taught to be a respectable woman in order to uplift the race and that black women should be perceived in a certain way. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. (Paine 153) The winter at Valley Forge, during 1777, held small struggles. like missing your family, to the great struggles of almost dying from starvation and dysentery. The soldiers at Valley Forge had little food to eat and were either too cold or could not breath because of the smoke in the cabins. The men that lived during that time, however, did not give up. They did not stop to order some pizza of their iphone when they were hungry. Even after watching men stop and take their last breath, they kept moving forward through the trials. Though some would think this crazy, if I were at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777 and 1778 I would have decided to re enlist for three reasons which are: the army needs healthy men, to be free you must contribute in the work, and we cannot quit if we want Britain to stop taxing us.... (Paine 153) My evidence to this claim is in Document D in Thomas Paine s journal entry. If Britain continues to tax, the colonists will not have enough money to buy the things they use to survive like food, clothes, etc. This reason would cause me to re enlist because they will think that we don t want to do anything to stop Britain from raising the taxes so the will increase the tax amount higher and higher. This ad for The Little Town of Christmas, may seem plain and boring, yet there are several aspects to it that many will and have overlooked. There are several different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the hearts of many; these aspects are the ad s font style, the colorscheme, the age range it targets, and the overall design choice.
