India is the world's largest producer of pomegranates. The total production in India is around 28.65 lakh tonnes annually, with Maharashtra contributing the most at 70.2%. Other major producing states are Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Popular varieties include Ganesh, Bhagwa, Mrudula, and Arakta. India exports pomegranates worth around Rs. 4,832 crores annually, with the UAE, Bangladesh, and Netherlands being the top export destinations. The per capita consumption of pomegranates in India is around 6.98kg per year.
