2. Pilot Overview – main thoughts

3. CCC - Task 4.2
We are building the user community through our Learner Advisory
Panels and funding panel
• We have begun awareness raising and have disseminated literature on Policy
Compass to the four Community Learning & Skills Partnerships (CLASP)
• We will demonstrate Policy Compass to each CLASP once we have a version
we are happy with.
• As a partner we need training on the Policy Compass platform ourselves
before we try and promote it to wider groups
• We will need support and training to run the workshops using the proposed
focus group technique to engage stakeholders to evaluate conceptually the
models, tools and techniques proposed within the Policy Compass project

4. Task 4.3 – Preparation of Field trials
• We are ready to begin specifying the field trail requirements but will again
need some help in doing this
• We will use the same wide range of CCC colleagues in this as we have used
in the testing stage
• Two new members of my team will we working on PC field trails from March,
specifically with user groups and will play a key role in:
• Preparation of briefing materials, evaluation pro-forma etc
• Running the workshops and training users
• Collecting the evaluation data
• Validating basic platform functionality
• .

5. Evaluation Scenario: data
•Datasets identified, more needed
•Mixture of open and non open data
•Variety of formats – PDF, xls.
•Further work needed to understand how datasets join together
to form the bigger picture

• FCM tools tested during 4.1
• Three outline proposals developed
• Impact of literacy courses on homeless people in Cambridge
• A health based one (details need to be confirmed)
• ESOL (English for Speakers of other languages) provision across
Cambridgeshire
• Next steps:
• Scope what open data is available and what need to add
• Work up FCM for the above
• Develop a better understanding of FCM to enable us to explain principles
to community groups

7. Final comments
• Policy Compass is linked closely to the wider push for accessible
open data and the use of this with communities for even greater
openness
• Politically this project is happening at the right moment for the County
– increasing awareness at both local and national government level
However
• It will be difficult to engage community users in its current format
• The visualisation, usability and user guides are all critical to this
