4. Defination of Plagiarism:-
● According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary; Plagiarize (and plagiarism) comes from the Latin
plagiarius “kidnapper.”
● When plagiarius first entered English in the form plagiary, it kept its original reference to kidnapping, a
sense that is now quite obsolete.
● To plagiarize means “to commit literary theft” and to “present as new and original an idea or product
derived from an existing source.”
● Plagiarism involves two kinds of wrongs.
● Using another person’s ideas, information, or expression without acknowledging that person’s work
constitutes intellectual theft.
● Passing off another person’s ideas, information, or expressions as your own to get a better grade or
gain some other advantage constitutes fraud.
5. why under plagiarism is considered:-
● Presenting someone else’s work as own;
● Copying words or ideas of another person without specifying the original authorship;
● Not using quotation marks;
● Giving incorrect information about the source that is cited;
● Changing words but copying the sentence structure of the source without specifying the source
or authorship of the original;
● Copying so many words or ideas which eventually make most of the work, regardless of whether
the source is acknowledged or not.
6. Related Issues:-
● Reusing a Research Paper:-
● If you must complete a research project to earn a grade in a course, handing in a paper you
already earned credit for in another course is deceitful.
● Moreover, you lost the opportunity to improve your knowledge and skills.
● If you want to rework a paper that you prepared for another course, ask your current instructor
for permission to do so.
● If you wish to draw on or reuse portions of your previous writing in a new paper, ask your
instructor for guidance.
7. ● Collaborative Work:-
● An example of collaborative work is a group project you carry out with other students. Joint
participation in research and writing is common.
● It does not constitute plagiarism provided that credit is given for all contributions.
● One way to give credit, if roles were clearly demarcated or were unequal, is to state exactly
who did what.
● Another way, especially if roles and contribution were merged and shared, is to acknowledge
all concerned equally.
8. ● Copyright Infringment:-
● Whereas summaries, paraphrases, and brief quotation in research papers are
normally permissible with appropriate acknowledgment, re-producing and distributing
an entire copyrighted work or significant portions of it without obtaining permission to
do so from the copyright holder is an Infringment of copyright law and legal offense,
even if the violator acknowledgese the source.
● For example we take any movie song for your video and upload it to YouTube . At that
time we find the copyright claimed of your video.
9. How to Avoid Plagiarism?
● Making a list of the writers and viewpoints which used in our research.
● Identifying the sources of all material you borrow exact wording, paraphrases, ideas, arguments,
and facts.
● Documentation-as per prescribed style. (Subject specific)
● Take help of referencing tools.
● Atanu Bhattacharya mentioned in his video lectures The Basics of Academic Writing how to avoid
