3. Our Song and Inspiration We have decided to use the track 'She Moves In Her Own Way' by The Kooks
as it is in the genre of Indie Rock. This track builds throughout so will work with
the build up of the video and gives us opportunity to build it as it goes on.
Remembering our tips from Jake not to give away everything early in the video.
We got a lot of inspiration from video for 'Flowers in Your
Hair' by The Lumineers, which is a video from their tour,
featuring the band, the relationships between them, behind
the scenes view of them and some performance. The effect
on the video also looks 'homemade' which we would like to
re-create in an ironic way.

We would like to feature some narrative, but just with a girl
which is referred to in the song, and have scenes of her getting
ready for the gig. At the guitar solo the song lifts to its climax
and this is where we will cut to the gig and have cuts of the girl
moving through the audience to the front, to reflect the lyrics.
We would also like to have some flashing photos like in this
video by Catfish and The Bottlemen, ‘Homesick’. Also with
some overlapping photos with a light opacity.

Some of the photos as very similar
but with slight movements, and
colour changes which is effective
and helps with our simple
‘homemade’ look.
4. Our Gig
After our research we have found that many videos feature live gigs and
performances. We have decided to use a model band and will have a gig, that
we will invite friends to that fit our target audience to be our audience. We are
currently waiting for confirmation on a venue, before we can organise lighting or
any props.
Our group members will each have a task (which
we can take in turn); Two cameras, One director of
the main audience and one in the performance.
We will also have a model ‘girl’ which will be
focused on occasionally to link with the lyrics.
6. Our Band Website
This is a rough preview as to what our band website will look like. I chose darker
colours and a red and black colour scheme in order to reflect the indie rock genre
that we chose to base our piece on. After carrying out research into different band
websites, I found that interesting images and a captivating opening page are
crucial features to making a successful image. I also found that being able to
contact the band was a necessary feature of most band websites, as this gave
viewers the chance to send their queries into the administrator of the website. For
our final website, the images would be more specific to the band itself, however
we have not yet scheduled a photoshoot to get the necessary photos of the band.
The website will include exclusive photos of the band, rehearsals and the gigs that
they perform.
8. Track Permission
As we are using someone else’s song as the song for our music video, we have to
ask permission from their record label in order to avoid infringing copyright laws.
This was the email that we sent to Virgin Records, asking permission to use the
track ‘She Moves In Her Own Way’ performed and written by their band ‘The
Kooks’.
9. Digipack
This is roughly what we would like
our digipack to appear like. on the
final product we would change the
images and have ones that we have
taken ourselves whilst out filming the
video so that it looks authentic and
fits with narrative in the video. The
colour scheme will also match with
the website and more time will be
taken with the initial design of the
logos and layouts.
10. Audience Research
On the next slide is the questionnaire that we are using to gain helpful audience
research. We are hoping to gain some insight into what our audience expects of
a music video of this genre, and in order to gain some information as to what they
feel makes a successful video. We also want to know what they dislike seeing in
the music videos, and the features that they recommend we avoid in our final
piece. We will use this information in order to make our piece more effective and
more professional.
Editor's Notes
The song we have decided to do is ‘She moves in her own way’ by the kooks. we feel it is a good song as the lyrics give us opportunity to build a narrative or just a performance based video. It also builds as it goes on, meaning we can (like jake said) build to a climax and not give it all away at the beginning.
Inspiration- Homemade looking tour videos are very popular in the indie rock genre and this is the kind of this we are going for in our video. We will be collecting footage from rehearsals, car journeys... both for our video and for a podcast for the website, which will help our audience get to know the band and their relationships. A good example of this is ‘Flowers in Your Hair’ by the Lumineers.
Some of the shots during the gig will be done like Catfish and the Bottlemens tour video, which is mostly photos put together as a video, which is very effective.
We would like to hold a gig for our video, which will have a band and an audience which we will direct. We have been in touch with a possible venue but are still waiting for a reply before we can make any further plans; Audience, lighting, staging...
Each group member will take it in turn to do each role; We will have 2 cameras at a time, someone directing the audience and band, and rob will be in the band but can still do other things.
To reflect the lyrics we will have a ‘girl’ which will be focused on occasionally which maybe me or beth. This person will also have to be filmed for other parts in different locations.
Instead of making loads of model release forms to send to each member of our audience, we have created an event on facebook where all the details on date, time, location, costume will be and anyone with queries can get in touch with one of the hosts.
We will also provide a permission form that everyone will have to sign as they come in to give us permission to use footage of them in our work.
