Timothy Mcveigh s Bombing Of The Oklahoma City Murrah
On April 19, 1995 the world was thrown into shock. Terrorism was not a thing in the United States. It
was even more of a shock to find out this terrorist was a resident of the United States. Not only did
this tragedy effect the hundreds of people inside the Oklahoma City Murrah building, it also affected
billions of rescue workers, families, and loved ones. All the different groups of people affected by this
bomb copped in very different ways.
Mcveigh used a lot of smart thinking to carry out his bombing plan. On April 17, 1995 Timothy
Mcveigh used the fake name Robert D. Kling to rent the Ryder truck in junction city, Kansas that he
would use to plant the bomb in to blow up the Oklahoma City Murrah Building (Casey). Only 270

These men and women risked their lives to try to save the thousands of men, women, and children
trapped inside the Murrah building. In assumption people would think this traumatic experience of
trying to recover lives after the explosion would not only be very heartbreaking, but very traumatic
also. Surprisingly, from all the rescue workers only 13% (24/181) were diagnosed with posttraumatic
stress disorder (North). A test was approved and ran by the Washington University School of Medicine
Institutional Review Board (North). This test involved the first group of firefighters who were
involved with the bombing victims (North). These firefighters are the ones who helped recover bodies
and body parts from the rubble of the bombing (North). Two thirds (68%) reported feeling somewhat
or very upset by either or both of these activities, although many (36%) described removing the bodies
as providing a sense of relief and closure to their evacuation work. Firefighters acknowledged feeling
somewhat or very upset by contact with body parts (54%) and body fluids (36%), but encounters with
children s remains (72% of total sample) had the highest rating of associated upset

Dissociative Disorder Essay
Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorder like any other mental disorder is not a perspector of person. It may affect an
individual of any age, socioeconmomic, racial, and ethic backgrounds. Dissociative disorder affects
approximately two percent of the population each year and approximately half of the population
experience at least one episode of dissociation in their lifetime, yet do not meet the criteria for a
diagnosis (National Alliance on Mental Illness, 2017). Dissociative disorders and their symptoms
many times may be linked to traumatic experience. Dissociative disorders are generally characterized
by a disruption of and/or discontinuity in the normal integration of consciousness, memory, identity,

The assessment is a twenty eight question self report questionnaire which exams the frequency and
severity of dissociative symptoms (Bernstein Putnam, 1986). It is emphasized the assessment be

Question Consistency with DSM V. The questions in the Dissociative Experiences Scale show
consistency with the DSM V. Examples of this can be seen as questions 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 25, and 26 all

7, 11, 12, 13, 27, and 28 all show consistency with depersonalization or having a feeling of being

Similarities Between Live Right And Find Happiness By Dave...
Have you ever wondered why people laugh or what makes things funny? It is because of the elements
the authors use in their texts like, irony and satire. There are different types of comedy also, high
comedy and low comedy. In the book, Live Right and Find Happiness by Dave Barry, there is an
article entitled, A Letter to my Grandson , in that article he shows a good example of high comedy. In
Dave Barry s article, A Letter to my Grandson , is a high level comedy that uses sarcasm and
hyperbole to reveal a universal truth about how the little things in life drive people insane and Dave
told his grandson how to handle the situations in comedic ways. In the article, Dave uses the element
of sarcasm, which means . In the text, it says, Many

Narrative Essay About Gilmore Girls
Lorelai raised me. Luke fed me. Emily wanted me. And above all, Richard knew me. Stars Hallow,
circa 2001, stands as the place I come from. At the cusp of Autumn, it all began. The necessary foliage
is sprinkled purposely around the gutters. There She Goes, is playing in the background. This is
Gilmore Girls, at its best. Hold back your flashbacks. Stop thinking of Dawson s Creek, One Tree Hill,
Seventh Heaven, or any other 90 s teenage crap drama. This show is so much more than a single mom,
a budding teenage daughter, a controlling relationship, a Connecticut town, or an eccentric neighbor.
At its core, Gilmore Girls stands as the essence of who I am. Now a days, it is considered a social
priority to find favor in current mind bending intellectual feasts of television. A young scholar such as
myself, is expected to be elbow deep in the latest Aaron Sorkin. Yet, I cling to the wholesome, extinct
WB network. If that makes me a phony, a goon, or a pretentious soccer mom, so be it. Through and
through, I have watched all seven seasons eight times. At twelve years old I entered the world. Today,
I can not say for certain that I have left. I wake up in Stars Hallow and eat my breakfast with the
always colorful neighbors, Babette and Morey. After school, I do my homework ... Show more content

What s Good About Palestine
What s Good About Palestine
Palestine s attributes; like the atmosphere, culture, and cuisine cause it to be a great country. I have
lived in both America and Palestine for a very long time so I have enough knowledge about the two to
differentiate between them. I was born and raised in Palestine so, of course, it holds a special place in
my heart. Palestine is not perfect, just like any other countries there are some bad things about it, but
the good qualities outweigh the bad ones.
The people in Palestine are some of the friendliest, most enthusiastic people I have ever met. Whether
you are sitting on your front porch, shopping for groceries, or out taking a walk, if anyone walks past
you, they will stop and say hello and have a conversation with you. There s something refreshing
about a friendly hello in Palestine, I do not that feel here in America. People here are not as friendly as
the ones in Palestine. Sometimes when I am out in America, I smile at people and they do not even
smile back here. You can feel that Palestinian people are genuinely nice; they greet each other, they
have small talk, and they care about the well being of one another, unlike the people in America.
Palestinian people do not discriminate against race or religion, or differentiate between social status.
You can always count on Palestinian people to invite to their house and over feed you with sweets,
because that truly is Palestinian hospitality.
Over the past ten years, I have only gone to

Enhancing a cloud based network could mean to make the network faster, safer, efficient, cost
effective and user friendly. The aim of this report is to discuss the methods and techniques of trying to
improve a cloud based network and what this could mean. The outcome of the project being
implemented will be to simulate a cloud based campus network with optimum performance which
then reflects its results in charts and graphs making comparisons with one another. A variety of aspects
will be explored prior to simulating the network such as current technologies, new protocols, servers,
data centres, testing and availability. Furthermore material on the software Opnet also known as
Riverbed will be provided because this will be used to simulate the final product. The purpose of the
project is to provide an insight into current matters which is then followed by creating a cloud based
network that is reliable, efficient, cost friendly and safe to use for a university campus to utilise.
Review of Literature Performance Problems How They are Measured The literature within this report
has been gathered using a variety of sources such as websites, academic journals, eBooks and reports.
When it comes to cloud computing there are some major risks including security 87.5%, availability
83.3% and performance 82.9% according to Kopp (2011). These are high priority aspects when
initially moving to cloud, however

For instance, many feared electronic media when it first entered the scene. They were skeptical of the
oncoming digital age and what it held in store for humanity. New forms of media have always caused
moral panics: the printing, press, newspapers, paperback, and television were all once denounced as
threats to their consumers brainpower and moral fiber... But such panics often fail basic reality checks
(Mind Over Mass Media). If society were to take one of these reality checks they would have come to
realize this new form of media had more benefits than disadvantages. They feared that the technology
would halt productivity and affect the brain; however, in most cases it did the exact opposite. If
electronic media were hazardous to intelligence the quality of science [and other brain inducing
activities] would be plummeting. Yes, discoveries are multiplying like fruit flies, and progress is
dizzying (Mind Over Mass Media). It is true, electronic media does have its drawbacks, but that does
not mean we should completely discredit the idea. Perhaps a better solution would be to compromise

An Age of Reason, An Age of Passion Essay
An Age of Reason, An Age of Passion
The period following the Renaissance focused the human attention toward the beauty of nature. It was
man s turn to be part of the nature and not the other way around. The term picturesque or compared to
a picture as Michael Woods defines it defines new characteristics of the art from this period.
This period, An Age of Reason, An Age of Passion, had a dual nature rational, responsive to reason,
but also anti rational, responsive to emotion.
Making one s way through the intellectual history of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, one
must be aware of the shifting meaning of such words as rationalism, naturalism, classicism,
romanticism. Like dancers in a reel, they combine and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taste became a value above morality (Stewart et. al., 156). Rococo main themes focused on leisure,
love, and fashion. These themes and the dramatic verve of Rubens gave way to the lyrical tone of
Rubens great followers, Jean Antoine Watteau (1684 1721), Frangois Boucher (1703 1770), and Jean
Honor6 Fragonard (1732 1804), the outstanding masters of three generations of Rococo painting in
France (Stewart et al., 156).
When it comes to Fragonard and his paintings, I have to mention that he is one of my favorite painters.
Paintings like The Swing (1766), A Young Girl Reading (1776), The Study (1769), The Lover
Crowned (1771 73), The Meeting (1771 73) and so many more hold a special magic for me. Every
time I look at his paintings, it is like looking at a magic world. It is more like a dream world, or like an
old fashioned story that never loses its charm for a child s ears. Because of
Fragonard s talent, I can also listen to his magic stories: a stolen kiss, a flirtation giggle, the sound of
the wind browsing through a lovely garden with a magic swing.
From this period, although not a Rococo artist, we have to mention Jean Baptiste Chardin (1699
1779). While his contemporaries painted their high style works of the upstairs aristocratic life,
Chardin painted the downstairs (Stewart et. al., 160): kitchen or pantry copper pots, earthenware jugs,
and raw food.

Building Positive Relationships
Introduction In today s world, creating positive relationships can get you a long way in life. Whether
that s knowing someone that can help you get a job or getting into a good college. Breaking positive
relationships can leave you with no one by your side when you are in need for help. Relationships are
built on integrity (Ellis, 2014, p.109). So when you break a promise with your boyfriend your
relationship may be strained (Ellis, 2014, p.109). Building positive relationships are not easy for most
people. I am one of these people because I am not really a people person. I don t feel comfortable
talking to people if I don t know them that well. This is one thing I need to work on to be successful in
my future.
Information
Powerful speaking is one good way to keep agreements or relationships. Think of this exercise as each
level as one rung on a ladder (Ellis, 2014, p.109). The lowest rung on the ladder is obligation which
means we feel passive and helpless to change anything (Ellis, 2014, p.109). For example, words that
are used during this level may include I should, he out to, someone better, they need to, I must, and I
had to (Ellis, 2104, p.109). Note: When we move to the next rung, we leave behind obligation and
advance to self responsibility (Ellis, 2014, p.109). This also occurs for the rest of the rungs. The next
rung is possibility which means we examine new options at this level (Ellis, 2014, p.109). Phrases you
might hear at this level is I might, I could,

The Sex Trade Should Not Be Overlooked
The economic benefits of the sex trade industry encourage governments to overlook the negative
repercussions and effects. The sex trade is also referred to as human trafficking; The official definition
for this is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of the
threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of
power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve

The amount of money made from this harrowing business seems rather quixotic, but this issue goes on
day in and day out. After selling drugs and gun running, trafficking is the third largest business world
wide (Medina, 2007). The criminal running all these trades are very particular as far as money goes.
The price depends on the person; once the girls are brought to me by an agent, I must pay from $350
to $400 for a virgin girl or $170 for a girl who is no longer a virgin (Flamm 2003). Criminals place
their workers in different ensembles; a virgin is far more costly than a girl whom has been used. Once
a women is purchased for sex, a trafficker can make five to twenty time her purchase price (Cheung,
2009). These criminals make a lot of money off of this organization of theirs, but they don t think
about the fact that they are turning little girls into hookers. Forced labor could amount to US $44.3
billion per year, of which US $31.6 billion are made by exploiting trafficked victims. This confirms
that modern slavery is a lucrative business, which funds the expansion of international criminal
groups, contributes to corruption, and undermines the rule of law (Flamm, 2003). This all shows what
the world is coming to; men will go out of their way to denounce women and children for money. The
criminals involved in this sick organization should be put behind bars with no parole. There are
reports that many

Swing Low, By Miriam Toews
Swing Low, a novel and memoir written by Miriam Toews, explores her father Mel Toews life leading
to his suicide. Mel Toews is difficult to fully understand as it stems from Miriam s view of her father;
however, she succeeds in portraying her father by convincing the readers he is narrating his own story
through a believable recapitulation of his life.
Before the memoir begins, the author clearly points out that she will be writing as her father while
retelling his life story after gathering information about his life. The prologue is the main reminder
that the memoir is written by the daughter about her father who had taken his life, and later on in the
epilogue as well. More importantly, the author takes away the surprise of the novel by mentioning her
father took his own life (Toews 1) which tells the readers exactly how the story will end. In spite of
revealing the ending, Toews uses suspense as a literary technique to pique the reader s curiosity and
investment by wondering what leads to his suicide. However with this fact brought out from the very
beginning, the reader focuses on the life Mel Toews leads to explain his spiral descent in depression.
Rather, through symbolic scenes such as the egg scene or the dream of finding a home, the author
presents eerie foreshadows implying the subject s aimlessness in the world he finds himself in. For
example, in the egg scene, he states [w]ho will keep [him] warm before [he] breaks? (89). The
quotation is a potential

Comparing Postman And Power s Essay Bias Of Pictures
Jacob Marek Clinton Hale English 1301 5/16/17 Semantics in language In The Bias of Language, the
Bias of Pictures , Postman and Power s essay shows the underlying methods used by media through
manipulation of certain mediums such as phrasing of sentences, music, moving and nonmoving
pictures to convey feeling, and how one should be prepared to not simply take things as they are
received. They do this by using a logical appeal through breakdowns of language, an informal tone in
writing to create a common ground and pathos in the description of how these mediums can have an
effect on how we feel. Almost all words have connotative meanings . (Postman Powers 44) Postman
and Powers go into great detail in the beginning of the article to ... Show more content on

Throughout the article Postman and Powers use descriptive language such as we or our, giving you a
common ground as if you were sharing a common experience. This use of informal tone persuades us
to believe what they are saying instead of rubbing it off as pedantic banter.(insert something
introducing their use of pathos) Creating a similar feeling in the way the authors evaluate the effects in
which pictures can create different emotions in the viewer and the differences between those moving
and non moving. This understanding from their perspective gives deeper meaning behind something
we might see as inconsequential or dismissive but in actuality an effective tool. Take for example
Postman and Power s analogy of an aircraft carrier Suppose the ship were burning: that would be even
more interesting. This leads to an important point about the language of pictures. (Postman Powers 47)
Another example of pathos in the article is in the way they use a description of how sound when used
in news broadcasts evokes emotion in its viewers by bringing them into the non literal. When they do
this it s sort of an epiphany into something we don t ever recognise because it is simply just
understood. Such as the intentionally vibrant music played in the beginning of a broadcast to create a
sense of emergency, or the use of typewriters to symbolize the processing of data. Already, then,
before a single news item is introduced, a great deal has been communicated. (Postman Powers

Disney World
Throughout the world there are so many beautiful and wonderful places to go and spend time to
explore and to relax. From going to a beach, skiing in the mountains, to luxury resorts, all and many
more would make for a great vacation. Every person may think differently and has different
expectations than others of what the best vacation destination would be. However, there is one
destination that so many has thought very highly of. This vacation spot for many is Disney World.
Disney World has been known for many years now to be a wonderful place to go young or old to have
an exciting time. Capturing so many of the scenes and characters from recent and old Disney movies
as well as adding in the thrilling rides and glamorous restaurants in castles, Disney World has truly
brought many unforgettable memories to life. Because of the unbelievable moments there is a reason it
is called one of the happiest places on earth.
In 1964, Walt Disney began to secretly buy millions of dollar s worth of central Florida (History).
Also known as D Day for Orlando, Walt announced that he planned to build a spectacular theme park.
Micky Mouse was one of the characters that got to escort some of the first visitors into the magic
Kingdom. Numerous people including celebrities took part in the celebrations (History). Disney World
has the incredible ability to turn every vacation into a once in a life time experience (Don). The
attention in detail that Walt put into the park makes it seem almost magical to many. An example of
the details of Disney World would be their rides. Many parks rides can feature a ton of steel, pipes,
and fences (Albert). Disney makes their rides have a good theme along the way and one can hardly see
any sight of backstage stairs up the roller coaster or fences around the ride (Albert). Everywhere
someone would look not only on the rides there will be pleasing to the eye, funny or fits in with the
theme of the land (Albert).
Still, one can never forget the work it takes everyday to keep Disney World up and going. The Cast
Members treat every guest equally and fairly like they are honored visitors. They are always helpful

The Transition Between High School And College
All children become an adult at some point in their lives. The transition between high school and
college exemplifies this transition. Yet few of these students feel prepared for the challenge that is
adult life. After living with their parents for 17 18 years, the move away from home and getting
saddled with a plethora of responsibilities can be jolting. William Allen has many graduation
requirements, but an Independent Living class is not one of them. This needs to change. High School
ought to prepare students for the everyday aspect of college and life after school, not just the academic
aspect of college. The graduation requirements of the Allentown School district include 4 years of
English, 3 years of math and science, and 2 years of foreign language (PROGRAM OF STUDIES
2015 2016 William Allen High School Louis E. Dieruff High School, 7). It does not include any sort
of class designed to help students learn important life techniques. School is designed to prepare us for
college and the difficult transition between high school and college. But the way our high school
curriculum is designed it only prepares us for the academic aspect of college, and without regard to
people who may choose to take a gap year or not go to college. When going to college, students may
worry about the dorms. They must adjust to college lifestyle and making new friends. The additional
stress of being suddenly ladled with a plethora of responsibilities on top of this stress can be daunting.

Housing Data Point Towards A Housing Market Bubble
Does Recent Housing Data Point Towards Another Housing Market Bubble?
The last housing crash was devastating to the global financial community. Considering the current
trends in the housing market, are we becoming more at risk for another housing bubble? The experts
continue to debate this contentious question.
As home prices continue to skyrocket, speculation in the market persists and reinforces the upward
trend in the housing market. Data from the National Association of Realtors, or NAR, reveals that
some of the conditions that led to the 2007 2009 housing bubble and crash began reappearing in 2015.
According to NAR, home price increases have been incredible in the previous years; in May 2015, 39
successive months of increases in housing prices was recorded; since the last housing bubble and
crash, from May 2014 to May 2015, home prices have gone up a staggering 7.9%. In addition, the
NAR noted that 5.1% of the existing housing market inventory sold, which when seasonally adjusted,
equated to a rate of 5.35 million homes.
Recent financial data indicates median home prices have shot up more than a whopping 35% in the
past 4 years, and the amount of residential real estate sold increased up to or past 30%. Is the current
housing market in correction territory? Although some would say it s only natural the housing market
push such new heights after reaching the lows of the last bubble explosion, others would argue that the
market has ultimately grown too fast and for too

Google Case Analysis
Google Situational Analysis I chose Google for this case study. Google has been both a pioneer and is
a leader in the online world. Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford University in 1995.
By 1996, they had built a search engine (initially called BackRub) that used links to determine the
importance of individual webpages. Google.com was registered as a domain on September 15, 1997.
The name a play on the word googol reflects Larry and Sergey s mission to organize a seemingly
infinite amount of information on the web. Google is most profitable through its online advertising
though it has also become very popular in many realms of the online world and technology both.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths:
Online advertising
Advertising relevant to consumers

Massive amount of information
Growing brand awareness
Apps that gather information to craft better targeted adds
Indexing and ranking of more than 60 trillion webpages
Google Images, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, and many other profitable and/or
popular applications and services.
Cash in excess of $60 billion which equals a great cushion for Google
Substantial profits, much of which can be invested into R D programs

The Controversy Of Medical Marijuana
The topic of medical Marijuana brings much controversy when discussing amongst people that are for
it or against it. Medical Marijuana has been the heated topic of discussion for the past few years now
mainly for it s medical benefits and the fight to decriminalize the herb.
There have been many miracle stories that support the idea of legalizing it for its medicinal purposes.
One story that brought much attention to the issue was how the strand, Charlotte s Webℱ , that is
increasingly changing many people s lives, became known.
Realm of Caring, a 5o1c3 non profit organization that has been formed to provide a better quality of
life for residents of Colorado who are affected by Cancer, MS, HIV/AIDS, Epilepsy, Parkinson s, as
well as among many other debilitating conditions through the use of concentrated medicinal cannabis
oil, is the first of its kind to provide persons who seek this form of alternative therapy and relief at a
very low cost ( Realm of Caring About, n.d.).
This organization gave Charlotte Figi, a six year old girl who is diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome, the
chance at life again ( Realm of Caring Charlotte, n.d.). Dravet Syndrome is a form of catastrophic
pediatric epilepsy.
Charlotte experienced serious cognitive delays, brain damage, and had undergone surgery to have a
feeding tube placed for food and water. She also had difficulty with walking and talking and must be
cared for at all times. She would suffer from 300 tonic seizures per week,

Millions In Abusive Relationship
Millions are involved in abusive relationships. The abuse might take the form of mental abuse or
physical abuse. The abusive spouse might have serious anger issues or an antisocial personality
disorder. This type of abuser likes to tread on the feelings of others. Often, they lack empathy or any
feelings of guilt for their abusive actions. Most might think that the husband is the abuser in the
relationship. The fact is that quite a few women are the abuser in the relationship. The man in the
relationship might feel a sense of shame and dare not seek traditional counseling with a therapist. Talk

Crowd Psychology
The question that I intend to study is: How do shy people react in a crowd? (do they become
aggressive/ assertive as per mob psychology, or shrink as per their personality)? There are various
theories regarding the mode of behavior in a crowd. Some, such as Freud, posit that people behavior
changes in a crowd and they become more restless and less individualistic. Mob theory, in fact, is born
form this which asserts that crowds are the source of volatile conduct where diverse people gang
together for a particular cause. Minds merge and each person s enthusiasm becomes increased as a
result. On the other hand, you have the Convergence theory that posits that the cause is born
beforehand and that people join the crowd in order to put their cause into practice. The crowd, in other
words, enables them to accomplish their objective and it makes them more enthusiastic and
entrenched in their mission. Social psychologists leBon (1895) and Zimbardo (1969) see the crowd as
an instigator of individuation. Stimuli such as mergence into a larger whole, the rush of the
environment, the pressure of the crowd, the sensory overload and so forth blur mental input and
causes a deindivdualistic individual to appear. One thing that is remarkable about all of these theories
is that they tend to generalize assuming categorical behavior to all individuals and providing the
aspect of crowd with anthropomorphic qualities. Indeed, Schweingruber and Wohlstein
(PsyBlog.com) point out that crowd

Emmeline Pankhurst Controversy
It is clear that Emmeline Pankhurst was an effective leader because her legacy continues to live on
today. In 1999 she was named one of Time magazine s most important people of the century, and in
2002 she was named one of the 100 Great Britons of all time by the BBC ( Emmeline Pankhurst
Encyclopedia 2). Pankhurst s image was one that defined not only her cause but her decade. Hughes
writes, the suffragette movement embarked on the decade that came to define it, the decade of mass
rallies, hunger strikes and letter box fires, of chains and railings and rushes on parliament, and of the
tiny, fierce and lovely Emmeline Pankhurst (Hughes 1). Pankhurst s great granddaughter, Dr. Helen
Pankhurst, says, My own life is also testament to this public affection for the suffragettes. Only this
week the man delivering my groceries was so overjoyed to find out I was related to the famous
Pankhurst that he wanted to shake my hand. (Pankhurst 2). People today, both male and female, side

According to the article, The English reformer Emmeline Pankhurst (1858 1928) led the movement
for women s suffrage in Great Britain, in the process developing agitational tactics still controversial
and consequential. Despite these views, her efforts played a significant role in the success of the future
women s suffrage movement. ( Emmeline Pankhurst Encyclopedia 1). Some people believe that she
went too far with the violent steps she took, but Pankhurst argued that only direct, violent action
would secure women the vote since men would do nothing unless their property was threatened. (

Roman Religion s Influence On The Rise Of Rome
The beginning of Rome started as a Greek migration around 750 B. C., when Greeks established more
than fifty poleis in southern Italy and in Sicily. According to Roman tradition, Rome freed itself from
Etruscan king, Sextus Tarquinius, the brother of King Tarquinius Superbus, he raped a noblewoman
Lucretia and she killed herself. This caused Romans to rise up against the king. After, Romans
established the republic. This was the start to what is known as one of the most powerful empires the

The Characteristics Of A Detective Fiction
Detective Fiction Essay
A detective fiction is a literary genre in form of a short story or novel that deals with crimes, usually
murder and detectives are involved to seek out justice for the victims. The detectives involved in
detective fictions can either be private, amateur, or police detectives. There are also other characters
like the suspects and the side kicks. An amateur detective is a detective who has no license to operate
as a private investigator neither is he/she a member of the police force. These detectives have a
different profession, but are not trained in criminal investigation. They have a passion in crime and
delivering justice to the society. On the other hand, a private detective also known as hard boiled is a
male or female detective trained in criminal investigation. Dealing with crime is his/her profession,
therefore, has good physical attributes and uses the gun efficiently. The two detectives differ in two
ways; first, they differ in financial status, secondly they differ on how they use violence in their
investigations.
The first difference between an amateur detective and a private detective is their financial statuses. An
amateur detective is an individual who has another job or rather a ... Show more content on

Raymond Chandler. Raymond writes that, He is a relatively poor man, or he would not be a detective

short story Trouble is My Business by Phillip Marlowe. This story presents a needy private detective.
When he is hired, he confesses that, I started to get up from my chair, then remembered that business
had been bad for a month and that I needed the money (Marlowe 255). This is an example of a hard

Theme Of Revenge In The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter is full of betrayal, hatred, jealousy, and envy. These many traits lead to the theme of
revenge being very prominent in the book. Revenge alone caused much strife between characters in
the novel and became the main goal for Chillingworth. Though there are other places where you can
find this theme it is most often used with Roger Chillingworth. He was torn apart both physically and
mentally by the need of revenge, which led him to lose many relationships that he had with characters
in the book. Chillingworth s dark revenge soon began after he returned home from leaving the
country. When he returned he noticed his wife, Hester Prynne, up on a scaffold. Upon seeing this, he
recognizes a bright A on her chest which meant she was an adulteress. Roger and Hester talk after
years of not seeing each other and Roger demands answers on who the adulterer is. Through much
denial from Hester, Chillingworth explains that he isn t mad at Hester but rather curious to discover
the identity of the adulterer. Later on Hester confesses to Roger that it is Arthur Dimmesdale, the town
reverend, which was shocking to Chillingworth. Upon hearing this Roger plots to get revenge on
Reverend Dimmesdale and will not stop until he gets it. Chillingworth s life is by now taken over by
the need of revenge. Though, with that idea, Roger tries to hide his real feelings and cover them up. As
an example of that, he would tell Hester that he loves her, but in reality he wants to

Evidence Law in the Ugandan Jurisdiction
BURDEN OF PROOF AND STANDARD OF PROOF. Under s. 4 of the Uganda Evidence Act,
evidence may be given in any suit or proceeding of the existence or non existence of every fact in
issue and of such other facts as are declared to be relevant. C.D. Field has defined burden of proof as a
metaphorical phrase indicating an obligation to prove a fact or facts. This obligation necessarily
involves the adduction of evidence in an attempt to prove a fact, subject to occasional cases where a
fact can be established without evidence. Towards the end of the Nineteenth Century, Thayer
maintained that the words burden of proof were used in two senses and that there was only one phrase

Philosophy Statement
When I finished junior high school I enrolled in a training program to teach elementary students in
some of the most remote regions of Mexico. I was excited about the prospect of teaching reading,
writing, and mathematics to underprivileged students in areas of my country that needed education
more than anything else to bring them into the modern era. I had seen the difference a few good
teachers had made in my life. It was one of my earliest ideas to help the youth in my country rise
above the limitations of their past and see the possibilities available to them with hard work in school.

Even though I would have preferred to dabble in other courses and learn more of the liberal arts, I felt
an obligation to find, and finish a program that would yield the greatest monetary rewards for my
effort. I put my nose to the grindstone and worked to become the best accountant I could be. However,
as much as I wanted to become an accountant, I knew I would prefer teaching accounting more than
actually being an accountant.
Over time the subjects I want to teach have changed, but my enthusiasm is still the same. I keep
thinking that there is no better place to change the world than in a classroom. In the beginning I
wanted to become an elementary school teacher, and later I wanted to become an accounting teacher.
Now I want to become a Spanish teacher at the postsecondary level.
So why do I want to become a Spanish teacher? I love the idea of teaching something once and
knowing my students will be able to apply or share their information many times. For instance, if I
teach my students how to casually greet native Spanish speakers instead of using formal addresses that
are found in textbooks; the next time they go to a Mexican restaurant, they can speak to their server in
a friendlier manner. Even if this seems insignificant, the Mexican waiter will appreciate the effort and
the American will be better off than if they only established a monolingual conversation. Connecting

Biological Diversity and the Ways It Can Be Destroyed,...
For my topic I chose to explore biological diversity and ways that it can be destroyed, restored, and
maintained. In class, we were taught that diversity is the number of distinct species of animals, insects,
plants, etc. that are living in a particular area. We found out that diversity is greater in the tropics and
less towards the poles. This is called the Latitude Diversity Gradient and could be due to one or more
of three theories. They are the cradle hypothesis that says the area where species tend to be born is in
the tropical latitudes, the museum hypothesis that says the tropical latitudes provide a better habitat for
species that go extinct in other latitudes, and the destination hypothesis that says species migrate to the

Another example is that species are adapting to the stresses of living in the city, such as high
population density and high heavy metal concentrations in the soil. The last example that was given
was the house mouse and the Norway rat. These are both non native species brought to New York that
are developing a resistance to the warfarin used to try to kill them. (Taking a Walk on New York s
Wild Side) This last example also shows us that introducing non native species can increase diversity.
The problem with that is sometimes those species become invasive species and can have negative
effects on the diversity in an area. This can also happen with non native plants and insects species as
well. Methods of restoring biological diversity were addressed in this lecture too. The presenter said
that the best way to maintain biological diversity is to keep natural area large and undisturbed because
a larger space equals more diversity in species. While there are many projects that are working to
restoring land to wild habitat, this option is not always possible. When building new parks, panels of
experts put a lot of thought into what species would do well if introduced to the area. This includes
animals, plants, birds, trees, insects, etc. They then introduce those species to the park when it is
finished. Many companies are working towards putting green roofs on their company buildings. This

How Did Julius Caesar Change
Augustus became Rome s first emperor after Rome changed from republic to empire after Julius

military might, institution building and lawmaking to become Rome s sole ruler, laying the
foundations of the 200 year Pax Romana (Roman Peace) and an empire that lasted, in various forms,
for nearly 1,500 years (History.com).
He was born in 63 B.C. and even his adoption he was known as Octavian. At the age of 16 Octavius

through his family connections (History.com). Octavius went to modern day Spain to fight alongside

King Lear Adaptations
I think that the National Theater s King Lear was the more effective play. This is for two
reasons, because it was had more hidden details and had better acting. These two features made
the play easier to watch and more entertaining.
First off, the National Theater s play had more hidden details that gave the viewers subtle
clues as to the setting and characters, a great example of showing instead of telling which made
the play much more interesting. An example of this was the microphone for Cordelia and her
future husband was pointed to his side, even though Cordelia was there alone. This shows the lack
of respect that women were given, King Lear was symbolically giving away land to a non existent
husband over his blood borne daughter. This reveals how little he ... Show more content on

The National Theater s King Lear had other intricacies such as
King Lear hitting Reagan s rear shows that his love might be one of an inappropriate nature and
reveals some of his character traits.
Secondly, in the National Theater s adaptation of King Lear, I felt the actors and actresses
had better acting. King Lear was shown as being crazier and more short tempered which makes
his descent into madness later on more believable. It also shows that he is prone to overreacting
as he flips over tables when he feels unsatisfied, this leads the viewer to see why it made sense in
his mind to banish Cordelia. In Olivier s play, King Lear is shown as much more level headed which
makes it out of character for him to banish Cordelia and even hold the contest in the first place. As
well, in the National Theater s King Lear the sisters Goneril and Reagan were portrayed more
realistically. Goneril delivered her speech with a hint of nervousness, which would be likely given
her father s unpredictableness and how important this was. She had to hope that her

he was inspired by the east facing window view of his asylum room at Saint RĂ©my de Provence which
he later uses his imagination to create the artwork. The Starry Night masterpiece was based on van

asylum. He also wrote a letter to his brother Theo van Gogh about him seeing an amazing view which
was stated: This morning I saw the country from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing
but the morning star, which looked very big . This part of the letter was evidence that he created The

Similarities Between Migo And Plato
In Plato s text The Republic his ideal nation is one without poetry. Plato makes the assertion that
poetry imitations reality and it takes us further, instead of closer, to the forms (i.e. truth), thus leading
to falsehood (142). Platonism in relation to Milton s L Allegro and IL Penseroso are what makes these
two poems in opposition of one another. The poem L Allegro affirms Plato belief about poetry because
it offers readers an illusionary and sensationalize approach to reality. Whereas, IL Penseroso refutes
this notion by bestowing on the readers a rational view, which in turn leads to the truth.
Milton opens L Allegro Hence loathed Melancholy / Of Ceberus and Blackest Midnight born / In

dismissal, thus he invites the Mirth and together they live in unreproved pleasures free (40). Mirth
invites the speaker into an imaginative world away from the reality that is Melancholy. After the
speaker goes with Mirth he begins to go off in a tangent about countryside life stating: And Milkmaid

And every shepherd tells his tale

Analysis of The Great Illusion, by Norman Angell Essay
Advances in technology and the expansion of trade have, without a doubt, improved the standard of
living dramatically for peoples around the world. Globalization brings respect for law and human
rights and the democratization of politics, education, and finance to developing societies, but is
usually slow in doing so. It is no easy transition or permanent solution to conflict, as some overly
zealous proponents would argue. In The Great Illusion, Norman Angell sees globalization as a force
which results from and feeds back into the progressive change of human behavior from using physical
force toward using rational, peaceful methods in order to achieve economic security and prosperity.
He believes that nations will no longer wage war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His rosy view of globalization at the beginning of the twentieth century is also naĂŻve in that it
downplays the role and the potential strength of nationalism, especially during times of crisis, and
refers to military spending and arms buildup as economically futile rather than as dangerous but
necessary, as they in fact were.
While colonialism did not always pay, in many cases it did allow a military power to promote
development of and trade with a colony in ways that would benefit the mother country. Angell
correctly emphasizes the importance of trade to economic prosperity, but incorrectly asserts that
colonizing nations cannot influence trade patterns or reap a profit from the trade that a colony carries
on. Furthermore, Angell focuses his criticism of military spending on demonstrating the pointlessness
of using military force to physically invade and steal gold reserves or take over factories, or to kill off
foreign competitors who are vital as producers and consumers in the global economy. No nation
intended to use their military force for this purpose. In reality, European nations used military force to
protect economic holdings, such as safe trade routes and favorable tariffs and taxes. While he is
correct to some degree in saying that military power will not force consumers to buy products of
inferior quality, political power does secure the right to create

Impacts of an Appreciating Currency
In the case of appreciation of the yen, the following impacts could occur to Japanese firms * The first
effect would be on the negative effect of exports and as a result would cause the firms to become less
competitive based on price. * Another effect would be as a result of the exchange rate fluctuations.
Certain firms might not be protected to negative fluctuations as a result of dealing with yen as their
primary mode of currency. This therefore can eat into the profitability of the Japanese firms and cause
multinationals to shift overseas to a more stable country.
Therefore in short, the reduction in exports due to an increase in the value of yen is because the
Japanese goods have now become more expensive to other countries. Therefore this reduction directly
affects the firms that deal with these exports and thus affects their profitability.
However , in spite of the decrease in exports , Japanese firms now have the ability to expand overseas

The Large Bathers Essay
Paul CĂ©zanne was an Impressionist painter that helped bridge the gap between Impressionism and
Cubism. Both Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso said he was The father to us all .(Paul CĂ©zanne, 2016)
Both artists took inspiration from the CĂ©zanne s painting The Large Bathers and made paintings of
their own from the ideas CĂ©zanne started.
The Large Bathers show us a scene of women bathing in a river. The colors we see are mostly blue
with some browns and greens mixed in. It s thought that this painting was unfinished as CĂ©zanne died
in 1906, and you can see some of the figures in the bottom right seem incomplete. Matisse took the
idea of bathing women but added his own signature color schemes. In Bonheur de Vivre he used
bright primary colors to pull focus to the figures, while CĂ©zanne used perspective to bring focus.
Matisse s painting lacks any normal perspective, figures appear next to ... Show more content on

Les Demoiselles d Avignon was painted in 1907 and translates to The Young Ladies of Avignon, a
brothel. He returned to CĂ©zanne s color palette with browns and blues to tone down the joy that is in
Matisse s painting. And he made the women the main focus by closing them in by the world around
them. While Matisse used open space, Picasso made the background come to the foreground with no
perspective being used at all, this makes the painting look flat and the ladies become the focus. The
figures are also very angular and do not show off a sensual human body like Matisse does. The figures
on the right have very odd looking faces, which Picasso was pulling from African art. (Harris Zucker,
n.d.) So Picasso was incorporating even more influences into a reaction of other paintings. Matisse
and Picasso were both pushing each other into new territory in the art world.(Harris Zucker, n.d. 2) By
trying to upstage each other the art became more and more different than the accepted art at the

Research Paper On Mandela Effect
As a young girl Nelson Mandela was an inspiration to me. My grandparents raised me, my
grandmother is Caucasian and my grandfather an African American. I was always interested in
learning about my culture and what it was like before when my grandparents were little. So a man
who was in prison because he fought for what he believed in truly fascinated me. My grandpa, who I
spent most of my time with, was interested by conspiracy theories. One of our favorites was The
Mandela Effect, changing the way we see it, read it and remember it. Taking that he was my best
friend we would talk about the mandela effect all the time. We talked about a few, did 9/11 occur on
9/11 or on 9/12? As I got older we asked How do you spell Febreeze? F e b r e e z e? ... Show more

The riddle making book lovers mad, the journalist focuses more on the children s book, The
Berenstain Bears, which most people remember it to be spelled with an E and not an A. The NZ
Herald, also has a slightly different view on the Mandela Effect. Instead of there being multiple
alternate universes, there is one, and there are people who traveled back in time and tampered with the
past and somehow it changed minor things, like the spelling of a children s book. No one really
knows. But I ve quizzed friends, family and acquaintances and they all came back with Berenstein.
With an E. It seems everyone I know is wrong. Or are we? And this is where the whole Berenstain
business gets eerie. How can so many people all be wrong about the exact same thing? How can
something I m so certain of, that I vividly remember, be hopelessly incorrect? (The New Zealand)
This journalist talks about more people supporting the Mandela Effect and having the same memories
about the past as the author

Political Economy Model Of Disease
The relationship between society and disease causes some of the most complex issues in existence
today. This complexity continues to grow, as the global community does not have a universal mode of
combating health decline. For this reason, some diseases and causative agents have thrived for
hundreds and thousands of years without a true cure. Fortunately, there are numerous scientific fields
dedicated to researching the problems and solutions that contribute to worldwide health. Medical
anthropology is one of the fields that attempt to bridge the gap between contrasting belief systems, and
ask the sensitive questions that politicians and world leaders avoid answering. For this reason,
understanding disease is becoming more available, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
43). The strength of these forces influenced people for centuries, and determined which individuals
thrived when illness spread. Although this model has only recently emerged, the hierarchy that existed
in every point in time shows that the model is accurate for its role in shaping overall health.
Historically, those in power were the first to receive treatment or prophylaxis against illness. Those
who could not contribute to the economy nor had a voice in politics were always at the greatest risk
for disease. Darwin s theory of evolution can be applied to the political economy model of disease
because the fittest individuals at a given time will overcome the challenges posed by the economic and
political demands. In modern times, this model is woven between the complexities of economic
development and the emergence of diseases that cause health decline. The state of the political
environment surrounding health and economics ultimately drives which issues are of most concern. In
United States politics, stem cell research, abortion, birth control, and cancer are important and
controversial health related topics. The reason these topics get the most attention is because they have
the potential to stimulate or hinder the economy, and create progress or partitions throughout the
country. When applying this model to smallpox, it is understood that the demand for vaccination and
eradication was stemmed from political motives. The desire to end worldwide epidemics was
appropriated through the global contributions that occurred hand in hand with foreign policies that
provided economic gain. The economic and political infrastructures at the time when smallpox was
eradicated called for worldwide compliance, especially as a way to come to a consensus

Comparing The Elves And The Invisible Clothing
If you ask a child in America about The Elves and the Shoemaker, The Little Red Hen, Little Red
Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Beds, or The Emperor s New Clothes, they would be able to
recount the story without much trouble, as these are simple stories with entertaining hijacks. These are
folklores that are read aloud in a kindergarten class, or for bedtime stories, yet not animated like
Cinderella, or Sleeping Beauty. These stories are even referenced in television series, such as Super
Why!, a children s series about altering books to end up with a better outcome. Some of these stories
were developed in other regions, and they are altered to fit with the community s values and thoughts,
and this can be seen when comparing The Emperor s New Clothes by Hans Christian Andersen with
The Invisible Cloth by Don Juan Manuel.
The Emperor s New Clothes is from Denmark, while The Invisible Cloth came from Spain. The story

Andersen s story doesn t display a harsh view on their government, but a nice laugh at being proud
and government officials. While Manuel s story features a hostile ruler who is mostly concerned with
investments, and the ending doesn t offer anything satisfying as Andersen s story did. That it was the
King s last option to finally admit the truth, while the Emperor just simply continued walking with the
confirmed knowledge. Before his death, Manuel was intensely involved in political activity ( Don
Juan Manuel ). In his story, he makes mention of the Moors family, which he actually fought against
when he was 12 years old (The Editors of EncyclopĂŠdia Britannica).
The Invisible Cloth written by the Prince of Villena in 1335, while the Emperor s New Clothes was
published in 1837. In Spain, this was the original story, as it was written by one of their important
figures, and was around for 500 years before the Emperor s New Clothes

Density Lab Conclusions
Results and Conclusions: Density measures the mass of substance per unit of volume. Density of
solids is measured in grams/cM3. Density of liquids is measured in grams/mL. Density of gases is
measured in grams/Liter. Specific Gravity is when the density of many substances are compared are
compared to the density of water which is 1 gram/cM3. If a substance has a density less than 1
gram/cM3, it will float but if the density is greater than
1 gram/cM3, it will sink.
In procedure A, samples 1 4 all had densities that were less than 1g/cM3. However, sample 5 had a
density greater than 1g/cM3. Samples 1 4 would all float while sample 5 would sink.
In procedure B, the mass of the pebble must be found before determining the volume because when
put in water, the rocks absorb some of the water. This is called porous and it can affect the weight
which will affect the density. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data was recorded immediately so it would not be forgotten. Several samples were repeated in the
procedure to compare to each other. The mass of the samples were found and recorded to later find the
density. The density was calculated determine which blocks would float and which blocks would sink.
In procedure B, the mass was found first so the weight would be as accurate as possible. Water was
placed in a graduate and the rock was carefully dropped in so the volume could be calculated and
immediately recorded. The density was calculated to compare the pebbles with different datas to each
other to determine which ones would float and which ones would sink.
In procedure C, the different flask were filled full with water to have different samples. The water was
emptied into a larger graduate to determine the volume of water in the flask. The volumes were
compared to see how different volumes of air will be after

Analysis Of Getting Ryan By Chris Landreth
The long history of the combination of animation and documentary is one that stretches back to the
earliest days of moving image. One conjures up thoughts of comedy, children s entertainment and
fantasies, while the other carries with it the assumption of seriousness, education and evidence, which
can nonetheless seem oxymoronic. However these new and relatively explored sub genres actually
depict a new field in the documentary genre known as animated documentary. Filmmaker John
Grierson defines documentary as the creative treatment of actuality, (Ehrlich 248) Meaning that
documentaries do not have to be presented as only live action film but rather a variety of creative
expressions to reproduce actuality. Though animation and documentary ... Show more content on

Animation shifts and broadens the limitations of what can be shown about reality by offering new and
alternative ways of seeing the world. It allows for the conventional subject matter of documentary to
be presented in a non conventional way. It also has the potential to convey conscious experiences,
such as memories and dreams visually, which is traditionally beyond what a live action documentary
can achieve. Animation has the potential to the viewers insight into the mental states of other people.
This is the kind of technique is what Chris Landreth did when creating the animated documentary
Ryan. Landreth create metaphorical visuals and portrays the exact way he feels and sees people
around him and makes his own surreal interpretation. Landreth explains Getting inside people s heads,
and showing in a visual, metaphorical way, the thought processes, the emotional processes...
accentuates the realism of the story, and in this case a documentary... Landreth creates the
documentary with a element of humour which is not only effective and entertaining but also abruptly
brings the viewer to recognise how sombre it all it. Seeing a surreal outlook in context such as this
enchants the viewers, which is something that may have not been possible with live action

My First Marking
When my report card gets home im one hundred percent sure that my mom is going to open it.
Because that is what she does all the time. This first marking period I didn t do so great so im sure that
my moms face is going to be the face of disappointment. They will be pretty mad about the grades and
sad. They will probably tell me to give them my phone or that im moving schools. They wouldn t be
pleased with the grades. Im sure that I might give them some excuse about why I got that grade and
how im going to try to do better next marking period. Then they will answer with the same old story
about why they work and that I will never understand and that I will keep on getting bad grades. But
then soon enough like in 3 days it will be forgotten ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My dad hes really serious about me failing school because he didn t go to school. Ever since he was a
child he had to work. He told me that every morning he would wake up take a shower and work on the
fields. After that he would go to school smelling like cow and sweat. When school was done he would
go home eat beans and tortillas and back on the field to work. There was no time for him to do
homework. And for my mom well it wasn t quite the same because she was born in Jalisco which is a
big beautiful city whereas my dad was born in a small village in La Palma, Michoacan. So my mom
was able to go to school. But she went through hell while trying to cross the border she went through
some hard stuff when crossing the border and she was very young. When she got here school wasn t a
problem until she got older and was in highschool she made very poor decisions that made her not
able to graduate from high school. And well my dad he went through hell also I don t know if it was
worse then when my mom came because he never went into details about what he went through. But
when my dad got here it was the same thing like Mexico work. He didn t go to school he started
working there was no time for school. Hes been working most of his life. That s why I want to get a
good career that I can make big money so I can provide my mom and dad a big house in Miami or

  • 2. Timothy Mcveigh s Bombing Of The Oklahoma City Murrah On April 19, 1995 the world was thrown into shock. Terrorism was not a thing in the United States. It was even more of a shock to find out this terrorist was a resident of the United States. Not only did this tragedy effect the hundreds of people inside the Oklahoma City Murrah building, it also affected billions of rescue workers, families, and loved ones. All the different groups of people affected by this bomb copped in very different ways. Mcveigh used a lot of smart thinking to carry out his bombing plan. On April 17, 1995 Timothy Mcveigh used the fake name Robert D. Kling to rent the Ryder truck in junction city, Kansas that he would use to plant the bomb in to blow up the Oklahoma City Murrah Building (Casey). Only 270 miles ... In assumption people would think this traumatic experience of trying to recover lives after the explosion would not only be very heartbreaking, but very traumatic also. Surprisingly, from all the rescue workers only 13% (24/181) were diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (North). A test was approved and ran by the Washington University School of Medicine Institutional Review Board (North). This test involved the first group of firefighters who were involved with the bombing victims (North). These firefighters are the ones who helped recover bodies and body parts from the rubble of the bombing (North). Two thirds (68%) reported feeling somewhat or very upset by either or both of these activities, although many (36%) described removing the bodies as providing a sense of relief and closure to their evacuation work. Firefighters acknowledged feeling somewhat or very upset by contact with body parts (54%) and body fluids (36%), but encounters with children s remains (72% of total sample) had the highest rating of associated upset ... • 5. Narrative Essay About Gilmore Girls Lorelai raised me. Luke fed me. Emily wanted me. And above all, Richard knew me. Stars Hallow, circa 2001, stands as the place I come from. At the cusp of Autumn, it all began. The necessary foliage is sprinkled purposely around the gutters. There She Goes, is playing in the background. This is Gilmore Girls, at its best. Hold back your flashbacks. Stop thinking of Dawson s Creek, One Tree Hill, Seventh Heaven, or any other 90 s teenage crap drama. This show is so much more than a single mom, a budding teenage daughter, a controlling relationship, a Connecticut town, or an eccentric neighbor. At its core, Gilmore Girls stands as the essence of who I am. Now a days, it is considered a social priority to find favor in current mind bending intellectual feasts of television. A young scholar such as myself, is expected to be elbow deep in the latest Aaron Sorkin. Yet, I cling to the wholesome, extinct WB network. If that makes me a phony, a goon, or a pretentious soccer mom, so be it. Through and through, I have watched all seven seasons eight times. At twelve years old I entered the world. Today, I can not say for certain that I have left. I wake up in Stars Hallow and eat my breakfast with the always colorful neighbors, Babette and Morey. After school, I do my homework ... I have lived in both America and Palestine for a very long time so I have enough knowledge about the two to differentiate between them. I was born and raised in Palestine so, of course, it holds a special place in my heart. Palestine is not perfect, just like any other countries there are some bad things about it, but the good qualities outweigh the bad ones. The people in Palestine are some of the friendliest, most enthusiastic people I have ever met. Whether you are sitting on your front porch, shopping for groceries, or out taking a walk, if anyone walks past you, they will stop and say hello and have a conversation with you. There s something refreshing about a friendly hello in Palestine, I do not that feel here in America. People here are not as friendly as the ones in Palestine. Sometimes when I am out in America, I smile at people and they do not even smile back here. You can feel that Palestinian people are genuinely nice; they greet each other, they have small talk, and they care about the well being of one another, unlike the people in America. Palestinian people do not discriminate against race or religion, or differentiate between social status. You can always count on Palestinian people to invite to their house and over feed you with sweets, because that truly is Palestinian hospitality. Over the past ten years, I have only gone to ... Sometimes new, unfamiliar things offer us new opportunities to grow as a society, learn, and compromise. But such panics often fail basic reality checks (Mind Over Mass Media). It was man s turn to be part of the nature and not the other way around. The term picturesque or compared to a picture as Michael Woods defines it defines new characteristics of the art from this period. This period, An Age of Reason, An Age of Passion, had a dual nature rational, responsive to reason, but also anti rational, responsive to emotion. Rococo main themes focused on leisure, love, and fashion. These themes and the dramatic verve of Rubens gave way to the lyrical tone of Rubens great followers, Jean Antoine Watteau (1684 1721), Frangois Boucher (1703 1770), and Jean Honor6 Fragonard (1732 1804), the outstanding masters of three generations of Rococo painting in France (Stewart et al., 156). When it comes to Fragonard and his paintings, I have to mention that he is one of my favorite painters. Paintings like The Swing (1766), A Young Girl Reading (1776), The Study (1769), The Lover Crowned (1771 73), The Meeting (1771 73) and so many more hold a special magic for me. Every time I look at his paintings, it is like looking at a magic world. It is more like a dream world, or like an old fashioned story that never loses its charm for a child s ears. Because of Fragonard s talent, I can also listen to his magic stories: a stolen kiss, a flirtation giggle, the sound of the wind browsing through a lovely garden with a magic swing. From this period, although not a Rococo artist, we have to mention Jean Baptiste Chardin (1699 1779). While his contemporaries painted their high style works of the upstairs aristocratic life, Chardin painted the downstairs (Stewart et. al., 160): kitchen or pantry copper pots, earthenware jugs, and raw food. ... • 11. Building Positive Relationships Introduction In today s world, creating positive relationships can get you a long way in life. Whether that s knowing someone that can help you get a job or getting into a good college. Breaking positive relationships can leave you with no one by your side when you are in need for help. Relationships are built on integrity (Ellis, 2014, p.109). So when you break a promise with your boyfriend your relationship may be strained (Ellis, 2014, p.109). Building positive relationships are not easy for most people. I am one of these people because I am not really a people person. I don t feel comfortable talking to people if I don t know them that well. This is one thing I need to work on to be successful in my future. Information Powerful speaking is one good way to keep agreements or relationships. Think of this exercise as each level as one rung on a ladder (Ellis, 2014, p.109). The lowest rung on the ladder is obligation which means we feel passive and helpless to change anything (Ellis, 2014, p.109). For example, words that are used during this level may include I should, he out to, someone better, they need to, I must, and I had to (Ellis, 2104, p.109). Note: When we move to the next rung, we leave behind obligation and advance to self responsibility (Ellis, 2014, p.109). This also occurs for the rest of the rungs. The next rung is possibility which means we examine new options at this level (Ellis, 2014, p.109). Phrases you might hear at this level is I might, I could, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The amount of money made from this harrowing business seems rather quixotic, but this issue goes on day in and day out. After selling drugs and gun running, trafficking is the third largest business world wide (Medina, 2007). The criminal running all these trades are very particular as far as money goes. The price depends on the person; once the girls are brought to me by an agent, I must pay from $350 to $400 for a virgin girl or $170 for a girl who is no longer a virgin (Flamm 2003). Criminals place their workers in different ensembles; a virgin is far more costly than a girl whom has been used. Once a women is purchased for sex, a trafficker can make five to twenty time her purchase price (Cheung, 2009). These criminals make a lot of money off of this organization of theirs, but they don t think about the fact that they are turning little girls into hookers. Forced labor could amount to US $44.3 billion per year, of which US $31.6 billion are made by exploiting trafficked victims. This confirms that modern slavery is a lucrative business, which funds the expansion of international criminal groups, contributes to corruption, and undermines the rule of law (Flamm, 2003). • 13. Swing Low, By Miriam Toews Swing Low, a novel and memoir written by Miriam Toews, explores her father Mel Toews life leading to his suicide. Mel Toews is difficult to fully understand as it stems from Miriam s view of her father; however, she succeeds in portraying her father by convincing the readers he is narrating his own story through a believable recapitulation of his life. Before the memoir begins, the author clearly points out that she will be writing as her father while retelling his life story after gathering information about his life. The prologue is the main reminder that the memoir is written by the daughter about her father who had taken his life, and later on in the epilogue as well. More importantly, the author takes away the surprise of the novel by mentioning her father took his own life (Toews 1) which tells the readers exactly how the story will end. In spite of revealing the ending, Toews uses suspense as a literary technique to pique the reader s curiosity and investment by wondering what leads to his suicide. However with this fact brought out from the very beginning, the reader focuses on the life Mel Toews leads to explain his spiral descent in depression. Rather, through symbolic scenes such as the egg scene or the dream of finding a home, the author presents eerie foreshadows implying the subject s aimlessness in the world he finds himself in. For example, in the egg scene, he states [w]ho will keep [him] warm before [he] breaks? (89). The quotation is a potential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Postman And Power s Essay Bias Of Pictures Jacob Marek Clinton Hale English 1301 5/16/17 Semantics in language In The Bias of Language, the Bias of Pictures , Postman and Power s essay shows the underlying methods used by media through manipulation of certain mediums such as phrasing of sentences, music, moving and nonmoving pictures to convey feeling, and how one should be prepared to not simply take things as they are received. They do this by using a logical appeal through breakdowns of language, an informal tone in writing to create a common ground and pathos in the description of how these mediums can have an effect on how we feel. Almost all words have connotative meanings . (Postman Powers 44) Postman and Powers go into great detail in the beginning of the article to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the article Postman and Powers use descriptive language such as we or our, giving you a common ground as if you were sharing a common experience. This use of informal tone persuades us to believe what they are saying instead of rubbing it off as pedantic banter.(insert something introducing their use of pathos) Creating a similar feeling in the way the authors evaluate the effects in which pictures can create different emotions in the viewer and the differences between those moving and non moving. This understanding from their perspective gives deeper meaning behind something we might see as inconsequential or dismissive but in actuality an effective tool. Take for example Postman and Power s analogy of an aircraft carrier Suppose the ship were burning: that would be even more interesting. This leads to an important point about the language of pictures. (Postman Powers 47) Another example of pathos in the article is in the way they use a description of how sound when used in news broadcasts evokes emotion in its viewers by bringing them into the non literal. When they do this it s sort of an epiphany into something we don t ever recognise because it is simply just understood. Such as the intentionally vibrant music played in the beginning of a broadcast to create a sense of emergency, or the use of typewriters to symbolize the processing of data. Already, then, before a single news item is introduced, a great deal has been communicated. (Postman Powers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descriptive Essay On Disney World Ashlyn Watkins Professor Shafer English Comp I 1113 21 July 2017 Disney World Throughout the world there are so many beautiful and wonderful places to go and spend time to explore and to relax. From going to a beach, skiing in the mountains, to luxury resorts, all and many more would make for a great vacation. Every person may think differently and has different expectations than others of what the best vacation destination would be. However, there is one destination that so many has thought very highly of. This vacation spot for many is Disney World. Disney World has been known for many years now to be a wonderful place to go young or old to have an exciting time. Capturing so many of the scenes and characters from recent and old Disney movies as well as adding in the thrilling rides and glamorous restaurants in castles, Disney World has truly brought many unforgettable memories to life. Because of the unbelievable moments there is a reason it is called one of the happiest places on earth. In 1964, Walt Disney began to secretly buy millions of dollar s worth of central Florida (History). Also known as D Day for Orlando, Walt announced that he planned to build a spectacular theme park. Micky Mouse was one of the characters that got to escort some of the first visitors into the magic Kingdom. Numerous people including celebrities took part in the celebrations (History). Disney World has the incredible ability to turn every vacation into a once in a life time experience (Don). The attention in detail that Walt put into the park makes it seem almost magical to many. An example of the details of Disney World would be their rides. Many parks rides can feature a ton of steel, pipes, and fences (Albert). Disney makes their rides have a good theme along the way and one can hardly see any sight of backstage stairs up the roller coaster or fences around the ride (Albert). Everywhere someone would look not only on the rides there will be pleasing to the eye, funny or fits in with the theme of the land (Albert). Still, one can never forget the work it takes everyday to keep Disney World up and going. The Cast Members treat every guest equally and fairly like they are honored visitors. The last housing crash was devastating to the global financial community. Considering the current trends in the housing market, are we becoming more at risk for another housing bubble? The experts continue to debate this contentious question. As home prices continue to skyrocket, speculation in the market persists and reinforces the upward trend in the housing market. Data from the National Association of Realtors, or NAR, reveals that some of the conditions that led to the 2007 2009 housing bubble and crash began reappearing in 2015. According to NAR, home price increases have been incredible in the previous years; in May 2015, 39 successive months of increases in housing prices was recorded; since the last housing bubble and crash, from May 2014 to May 2015, home prices have gone up a staggering 7.9%. In addition, the NAR noted that 5.1% of the existing housing market inventory sold, which when seasonally adjusted, equated to a rate of 5.35 million homes. Recent financial data indicates median home prices have shot up more than a whopping 35% in the past 4 years, and the amount of residential real estate sold increased up to or past 30%. • 23. Crowd Psychology The question that I intend to study is: How do shy people react in a crowd? (do they become aggressive/ assertive as per mob psychology, or shrink as per their personality)? There are various theories regarding the mode of behavior in a crowd. Some, such as Freud, posit that people behavior changes in a crowd and they become more restless and less individualistic. Mob theory, in fact, is born form this which asserts that crowds are the source of volatile conduct where diverse people gang together for a particular cause. Minds merge and each person s enthusiasm becomes increased as a result. On the other hand, you have the Convergence theory that posits that the cause is born beforehand and that people join the crowd in order to put their cause into practice. The crowd, in other words, enables them to accomplish their objective and it makes them more enthusiastic and entrenched in their mission. Social psychologists leBon (1895) and Zimbardo (1969) see the crowd as an instigator of individuation. Stimuli such as mergence into a larger whole, the rush of the environment, the pressure of the crowd, the sensory overload and so forth blur mental input and causes a deindivdualistic individual to appear. One thing that is remarkable about all of these theories is that they tend to generalize assuming categorical behavior to all individuals and providing the aspect of crowd with anthropomorphic qualities. • 26. The Characteristics Of A Detective Fiction Detective Fiction Essay A detective fiction is a literary genre in form of a short story or novel that deals with crimes, usually murder and detectives are involved to seek out justice for the victims. The detectives involved in detective fictions can either be private, amateur, or police detectives. There are also other characters like the suspects and the side kicks. An amateur detective is a detective who has no license to operate as a private investigator neither is he/she a member of the police force. These detectives have a different profession, but are not trained in criminal investigation. They have a passion in crime and delivering justice to the society. On the other hand, a private detective also known as hard boiled is a male or female detective trained in criminal investigation. Dealing with crime is his/her profession, therefore, has good physical attributes and uses the gun efficiently. Revenge alone caused much strife between characters in the novel and became the main goal for Chillingworth. Though there are other places where you can find this theme it is most often used with Roger Chillingworth. He was torn apart both physically and mentally by the need of revenge, which led him to lose many relationships that he had with characters in the book. Chillingworth s dark revenge soon began after he returned home from leaving the country. When he returned he noticed his wife, Hester Prynne, up on a scaffold. Upon seeing this, he recognizes a bright A on her chest which meant she was an adulteress. Roger and Hester talk after years of not seeing each other and Roger demands answers on who the adulterer is. Through much denial from Hester, Chillingworth explains that he isn t mad at Hester but rather curious to discover the identity of the adulterer. Later on Hester confesses to Roger that it is Arthur Dimmesdale, the town reverend, which was shocking to Chillingworth. Upon hearing this Roger plots to get revenge on Reverend Dimmesdale and will not stop until he gets it. Chillingworth s life is by now taken over by the need of revenge. In class, we were taught that diversity is the number of distinct species of animals, insects, plants, etc. that are living in a particular area. We found out that diversity is greater in the tropics and less towards the poles. This is called the Latitude Diversity Gradient and could be due to one or more of three theories. They are the cradle hypothesis that says the area where species tend to be born is in the tropical latitudes, the museum hypothesis that says the tropical latitudes provide a better habitat for species that go extinct in other latitudes, and the destination hypothesis that says species migrate to the ... The last example that was given was the house mouse and the Norway rat. These are both non native species brought to New York that are developing a resistance to the warfarin used to try to kill them. (Taking a Walk on New York s Wild Side) This last example also shows us that introducing non native species can increase diversity. The problem with that is sometimes those species become invasive species and can have negative effects on the diversity in an area. This can also happen with non native plants and insects species as well. Methods of restoring biological diversity were addressed in this lecture too. The presenter said that the best way to maintain biological diversity is to keep natural area large and undisturbed because a larger space equals more diversity in species. While there are many projects that are working to restoring land to wild habitat, this option is not always possible. Globalization brings respect for law and human rights and the democratization of politics, education, and finance to developing societies, but is usually slow in doing so. It is no easy transition or permanent solution to conflict, as some overly zealous proponents would argue. He believes that nations will no longer wage war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His rosy view of globalization at the beginning of the twentieth century is also naĂŻve in that it downplays the role and the potential strength of nationalism, especially during times of crisis, and refers to military spending and arms buildup as economically futile rather than as dangerous but necessary, as they in fact were. While colonialism did not always pay, in many cases it did allow a military power to promote development of and trade with a colony in ways that would benefit the mother country. Angell correctly emphasizes the importance of trade to economic prosperity, but incorrectly asserts that colonizing nations cannot influence trade patterns or reap a profit from the trade that a colony carries on. Furthermore, Angell focuses his criticism of military spending on demonstrating the pointlessness of using military force to physically invade and steal gold reserves or take over factories, or to kill off foreign competitors who are vital as producers and consumers in the global economy. No nation intended to use their military force for this purpose. In reality, European nations used military force to protect economic holdings, such as safe trade routes and favorable tariffs and taxes. While he is correct to some degree in saying that military power will not force consumers to buy products of inferior quality, political power does secure the right to create ... • 42. Minimum Wage The concept of minimum wage is to ensure that employers do not pay wages below the mandated level. However this does not always happen instead this policy ends up hurting these workers and the economy in terms of lower job opportunities. This is because the increase of labor costs keeping all other things constant would eat into the net profits of the company. Therefore in order to offset the decrease in profits, the need for low skilled labor decreases and companies look for higher productivity workers. The groups that are directly affected by the minimum wage consists of young workers or teenagers, part time workers and workers from non poor families. Certain firms might not be protected to negative fluctuations as a result of dealing with yen as their primary mode of currency. This therefore can eat into the profitability of the Japanese firms and cause multinationals to shift overseas to a more stable country. Therefore in short, the reduction in exports due to an increase in the value of yen is because the Japanese goods have now become more expensive to other countries. Therefore this reduction directly affects the firms that deal with these exports and thus affects their profitability. Both Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso said he was The father to us all .(Paul CĂ©zanne, 2016) Both artists took inspiration from the CĂ©zanne s painting The Large Bathers and made paintings of their own from the ideas CĂ©zanne started. The Large Bathers show us a scene of women bathing in a river. The colors we see are mostly blue with some browns and greens mixed in. It s thought that this painting was unfinished as CĂ©zanne died in 1906, and you can see some of the figures in the bottom right seem incomplete. I was always interested in learning about my culture and what it was like before when my grandparents were little. One of our favorites was The Mandela Effect, changing the way we see it, read it and remember it. Taking that he was my best friend we would talk about the mandela effect all the time. • 45. Political Economy Model Of Disease The relationship between society and disease causes some of the most complex issues in existence today. This complexity continues to grow, as the global community does not have a universal mode of combating health decline. For this reason, some diseases and causative agents have thrived for hundreds and thousands of years without a true cure. Fortunately, there are numerous scientific fields dedicated to researching the problems and solutions that contribute to worldwide health. Medical anthropology is one of the fields that attempt to bridge the gap between contrasting belief systems, and ask the sensitive questions that politicians and world leaders avoid answering. The strength of these forces influenced people for centuries, and determined which individuals thrived when illness spread. Although this model has only recently emerged, the hierarchy that existed in every point in time shows that the model is accurate for its role in shaping overall health. Historically, those in power were the first to receive treatment or prophylaxis against illness. Those who could not contribute to the economy nor had a voice in politics were always at the greatest risk for disease. Darwin s theory of evolution can be applied to the political economy model of disease because the fittest individuals at a given time will overcome the challenges posed by the economic and political demands. In modern times, this model is woven between the complexities of economic development and the emergence of diseases that cause health decline. The state of the political environment surrounding health and economics ultimately drives which issues are of most concern. In United States politics, stem cell research, abortion, birth control, and cancer are important and controversial health related topics. The reason these topics get the most attention is because they have the potential to stimulate or hinder the economy, and create progress or partitions throughout the country. When applying this model to smallpox, it is understood that the demand for vaccination and eradication was stemmed from political motives. The desire to end worldwide epidemics was appropriated through the global contributions that occurred hand in hand with foreign policies that provided economic gain. The economic and political infrastructures at the time when smallpox was eradicated called for worldwide compliance, especially as a way to come to a consensus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Analysis Of Getting Ryan By Chris Landreth The long history of the combination of animation and documentary is one that stretches back to the earliest days of moving image. One conjures up thoughts of comedy, children s entertainment and fantasies, while the other carries with it the assumption of seriousness, education and evidence, which can nonetheless seem oxymoronic. However these new and relatively explored sub genres actually depict a new field in the documentary genre known as animated documentary. Filmmaker John Grierson defines documentary as the creative treatment of actuality, (Ehrlich 248) Meaning that documentaries do not have to be presented as only live action film but rather a variety of creative expressions to reproduce actuality. Though animation and documentary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It allows for the conventional subject matter of documentary to be presented in a non conventional way. Animation has the potential to the viewers insight into the mental states of other people. This is the kind of technique is what Chris Landreth did when creating the animated documentary Ryan.
