Swing Low, a novel and memoir written by Miriam Toews, explores her father Mel Toews life leading
to his suicide. Mel Toews is difficult to fully understand as it stems from Miriam s view of her father;
however, she succeeds in portraying her father by convincing the readers he is narrating his own story
through a believable recapitulation of his life.
Before the memoir begins, the author clearly points out that she will be writing as her father while
retelling his life story after gathering information about his life. The prologue is the main reminder
that the memoir is written by the daughter about her father who had taken his life, and later on in the
epilogue as well. More importantly, the author takes away the surprise of the novel by mentioning her
father took his own life (Toews 1) which tells the readers exactly how the story will end. In spite of
revealing the ending, Toews uses suspense as a literary technique to pique the reader s curiosity and
investment by wondering what leads to his suicide. However with this fact brought out from the very

Disney World has been known for many years now to be a wonderful place to go young or old to have

The question that I intend to study is: How do shy people react in a crowd? (do they become
aggressive/ assertive as per mob psychology, or shrink as per their personality)? There are various
theories regarding the mode of behavior in a crowd. Some, such as Freud, posit that people behavior
changes in a crowd and they become more restless and less individualistic. Mob theory, in fact, is born
form this which asserts that crowds are the source of volatile conduct where diverse people gang

When my report card gets home im one hundred percent sure that my mom is going to open it.
Because that is what she does all the time. This first marking period I didn t do so great so im sure that
my moms face is going to be the face of disappointment. They will be pretty mad about the grades and

My dad hes really serious about me failing school because he didn t go to school. Ever since he was a
child he had to work. He told me that every morning he would wake up take a shower and work on the
fields. After that he would go to school smelling like cow and sweat. When school was done he would
go home eat beans and tortillas and back on the field to work. There was no time for him to do
homework. And for my mom well it wasn t quite the same because she was born in Jalisco which is a
big beautiful city whereas my dad was born in a small village in La Palma, Michoacan. So my mom
was able to go to school. But she went through hell while trying to cross the border she went through
some hard stuff when crossing the border and she was very young. When she got here school wasn t a
problem until she got older and was in highschool she made very poor decisions that made her not

when my dad got here it was the same thing like Mexico work. He didn t go to school he started
