Theseus In The Maze Runner
The book and recent movie adaptation, The Maze Runner, is strongly related to the life
of Theseus and more specifically the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur in the labyrinth. The
relationship and the similarities are clearly demonstrated through Thomas s character and
personality while comparing him to Theseus. The main characters are not the only aspect of this
series that is influenced by Greek mythology; the animals, or grievers are a representation of
the Minotaur and the challenges they present to the children. Also, simply based on the title, the
setting is another indisputable connection to the myth of the labyrinth.
The plot of the book is where one can notice the most obvious connections to the myth.
For example, the story centers around young boys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though
discrepancies occur, such as the time spans or the genders of the children, it is undeniable that
this story is almost completely based off of the Greek myth. Some other general plot similarities
include; the minotaur/griever attacks on the children, the heroes voluntary choice to go against
the animals, and the 50/50 body composition of the animals Minotaur is half human and half
animal while the grievers are half animal and half human made machine.
Taking a deeper look at the main character, Thomas, we see many characteristics that
would be considered heroic ones in the Greek and Roman times. The most evident connection
is through their willingness to risk their lives. Although Thomas did not volunteer to go to the
Glade as Theseus had, he did chose to go inside the maze and risk his life there among the
grievers in the hopes of finding an escape. Their bravery connects them in multiple ways,
especially when attempting to prove their self worth. Thomas has to consistently prove himself
to the older members of the Glade, usually involving going into the maze or other

Fiddler On The Roof Analysis
Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein s 1964 classic Fiddler on the Roof, previewed by
Wright State University on November 1, 2017 under the direction of W. Stuart McDowell, highlighted
the balancing act one family has with their time honored traditions. With not only the encroachment of
Russian influence, the small Ukrainian village of Anatevka had to learn how to keep their Jewish faith
strong in the midst of changing times, power, and the whims of the lead s daughters. Inspired by the
French painter Marc Chagall, the overall design supported the themes of the show and abstract style.
Produced in a more presentational style, the lighting, costume, and set design were essential and
effective in clarifying the focus of the production and worked well in conjunction. Matthew P.
Benjamin s lighting gave focus to the production and supported the mood in each moment. Being the
driving character for the show, focus was often given to Tevye, especially during his monologues.
Even when other characters were on stage, including members of his family, the lights came down and
Tevye would be under a tight focus during these moments like when Tzeitel and Motel express their
intentions to get married in Act 1 and subsequently Perchik and Hodel s same wish in Act 2. Another
time focus was given to the characters in a scene rather than the overall setting was during the Fruma
Sarah sequence. The use of shinbusters in wing one and cross light gave more focus to the action and

Community Diagnosis
Abstract The following is an assessment of an Eastern Washington Community known as
Chelan/Douglas Counties which will lead to a community diagnosis. This community diagnosis is
based on publicly available statistical data gathered using the concepts of epidemiology of birth rates
and leading causes of death and assessing the communities determinants of health from the websites

The Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical (MSA) includes Chelan and Douglas Counties and it depends
heavily on agriculture, retail, recreational activity and hospitality for employment of the bulk of their
residents. The largest age group within the 118,000 population is the 35 64 year olds at 43,370 and
followed by the 0 17 year olds at 28,318 and then the 18 34 year olds at 22,105 and finally 65+ at
17,056. This puts the bulk of the work force at approximately 65,475 individuals of prime working
ages. Unemployment rates are 12% for Chelan County and 15% for Douglas County. The number of
residents who have an Associate Degree or Vocational Certificate is 10% and the number who have
Bachelors or higher is 8% for both counties combined. The area s population has grown annually by
40% since 2004, despite a 1% decrease in the annual birthrate, in Chelan County the infant mortality
rate (IMR) was 4.1 per 1,000 live births in 2010 which has increased 3% from 1998. In Douglas
County the IMR was 0.0 per 1,000 live births, decreased 100% from 1998. Many individuals are
relocating from California to retire, and recreational enthusiasts are

Pros Of Going To A Community College Research Paper
The air is filled with innocent laughs and the sound of honorable applause. As you hear the sound of
the Land of Hope and Glory march commence, it hits you. You have finally accomplished what
appeared to be a prolonged journey that would never end, with the early mornings and late night
homework out of the way, you now feel free. Suddenly, you catch yourself asking what s next? And
you realize, that your real life has just begun. You are now faced with one of the most drastic decisions
that will defy your impending future, should you stay at home and attend a community college or
would you rather move away into a four year university and live on campus? What is the right choice
for you? Here are a few tips to persuade your choice.

It is less expensive, consists of a smaller campus, and commonly in closer distance. While, in the other
hand, four year universities are the complete opposite, they have higher tuition rates, a larger campus,
and usually in greater distance which emphasizes the choice of housing with in the university to cut
down on commute. The yearly tuition ranges from $3,440 to $9,410 in community colleges while in a
university it is an estimated cost of $33,990. The high cost of classes and books makes it easy for a
student to rely on loans to be able to pay for the high tuition. Generally, loans lead to the expansion of
buried debts that are tough to exterminate. Community colleges are well known for consisting of
smaller and friendlier campuses. You become more familiar with the buildings and not to mention the
small class sizes make it easy for your professor to put a face to your name. Not only does this allow
you to have a closer teacher/student relationship but it also permits a full engage lectures for you and
your classmates to participate in. While, in universities, due to the large campus and class sizes it is
hard for your professor to know more about you than just your name and grades. Community colleges
grant you with the option to live at home while still attending college because of the closer distances.
This is a one of the vast factors that makes community colleges more affordable. Furthermore,
universities are known for the housing of students for a faster route to obtaining a higher degree, this
factor guides students for a more engaged educational path with school as a

Product development strategies of FCL involve varying degrees of related diversification of their
product and services. FCL has a range of various categories: leisure travel, corporate travel, youth
travel, cruises, tour operations, online travel agents, foreign exchange, travel academies and bike
retailing (Benckendorff, Shedon Fesenmaier, 2014). The Motley Fool (2015) also compliments that
the diversification of FCL business within the sector is impressive.
FCL focuses strongly on market development by introducing their products to new geography. In the

Two Layer Floodgate Lab Report
Two Layer Floodgate Can an increase of layers on a floodgate improve the performance of the
floodgate? If a second layer of popsicle sticks is added to a model floodgate made out of popsicle
sticks, then the two layer floodgate will be able to block more water. The control variables for this
experiment include where both tests were conducted (bathtub), the materials used for each floodgate
(same brand of popsicle sticks), the 20x6.x8.5 floral foam blocks on each side of the bathtub, the
location in the bathtub that the floodgates were placed in; all of these variables were the same for each
experiment. The independent variable was how many liters of water in the bathtub at one time. The
dependent variable was the amount of water the floodgate held back (measured in how high the water
level was on the south end of the bathtub). The floodgate with one layer was the control group; the
two layered one was the experimental group. The first procedure for this experiment was to gather
your materials. Next was to build the floodgates and set up the bathtub. To conduct the experiment,
pour 2 liters of water into the bathtub from the south end at a time, and log the results. The first design
of this experiment involved no clay or floral foam blocks, instead the floodgate was positioned
between two towels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The design of the floodgates couldn t help but be flawed. No popsicle sticks will be created
completely the same. Therefore, when hot gluing them together, they won t match up perfectly, and
this will create small gaps that water can creep through. Also, the popsicle sticks may have shifted
before the glue was dry. The clay may have also let water through it. The clay was not allowed to dry
and stick to the bathtub before the experiment, and that was probably the problem. Water may have
evaporated or been absorbed by the floral foam or clay. All of these variables could have caused the
results received from this

Modern Landscape Design Is The Arrangement Of Environments...
Modernism, in the context of landscape design, is a result of forms and functions that reflect the need
for outdoor living spaces that enhance contemporary lifestyles. As Garrett Eckbo, one of the central
figures in modern landscape architecture, said, landscape design is the arrangement of environments
for people.
Contemporary garden design tends to focus on scale as opposed to formal landscape designs that are
based on axial relationships. It also foregoes the more classic landscape design forms and larger scale
from Greek, Roman, and classical architecture traditions. This design motif became popular in the
1950 s baby boom, particularly in California where weather and lifestyle was very conducive to this
innovative style.
In modern landscape design, boundaries between areas of color, textures and shapes are undefined or
conversely, sharply defined. Color and composition create the emotional response. Combining
freshness and flair, these designs use dramatic geometric shapes to create a point of view that is fluid
and natural. Water and light are often used, as in artfully lit outdoor water fountains, to enhance the
sensual loveliness and liveliness. The designs are arresting, both close up and far away.
Form and Function in Modern Landscape Design
As the maxim says, form follows function. Modern landscape design is an aesthetic that shows only
what is necessary while often leaving surfaces exposed. The simplicity of modern design reveals itself
in that every form

Psychological And Sociological Factors Of Stress
Introduction
Stress is defined as any situation which tends to disturb the equilibrium between a living organism and
its environment 1. Equilibrium is restored through biological actions such as hormone secretion which
lead to physiological changes that prepare one for the fight or flight response. As a junior doctor, Mark
is exposed every day to many stressors such as death, suffering and long hours. There are also many
psychological and sociological factors in the work environment which can further impact Mark s
stress. It is therefore vitally important for new junior doctors like Mark to be able to manage their
stress and ask for help if they are unable to cope.

CRF is the main regulator of the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis and is secreted by the
paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus4. It is released into the anterior posterior gland
where it binds to receptors on pituitary corticotropes which stimulate the release of ACTH. ACTH
mainly targets the adrenal cortex where it stimulates production of glucocorticoids5 by increasing
RNA, DNA and protein synthesis3.
The second wave is slower and involves steroid hormones, such as glucocorticoids2, more specifically
cortisol in humans5. Glucocorticoids bind to glucocorticoid receptors which are found in the majority
of tissues3. Thus they have a wide range of targets and actions, and so regulate metabolic,
cardiovascular, immune and behavioural processes2. One which is relevant to responding to stress is
the target of the adrenal medulla which when targeted increases PMNT expression and activity which
stimulates epinephrine synthesis3. Another important target is the liver where the effect is an increased
expression of gluconeogenic enzymes3 which helps to increase metabolic activity. The heart is also a
target where the effect is increased contractility3.
Acute stress can also lead to secretion of other hormones. Vasopressin, or antidiuretic hormone, is
rapidly released from the PVN of the hypothalamus1. Its role is to help

Phoenician Trade Routes
After reading and learning about the Phoenician people I was amazed. The Phoenician people are the
ones that started a foundation for 21 century that are a part of. It is outstanding to find out that these
are people that started something every single person in the world knows and uses. They started the
alphabet which was based on what sound they make. The alphabet that we use today is based on what
they started, and without it I don t know where we would be. Another great thing that these people did
was build trade routes. Trade routes are very resourceful; they make business easier and provide a
wide range of area for business to be done. We still use trade routes for business now a day. While the

In 1926, the Village of Euclid vs Amber Realty Corporation was a historical event in planning, why? It
was the first significant case that addressed the new practice of zoning, and served to substantially
boost to zoning ordinances in towns nationwide in the United States and in other countries.
In the case of Village of Euclid vs. Ambler Realty Corporation; Ambler Realty owned 68 acres of land
in the Village of Euclid, a suburban neighbor in Cleveland, Ohio. The village, in attempt to prevent
Cleveland industrializing their suburban neighborhood on November 13, 1922, general counsel
created a zoning ordinance for Euclid as an effort to stop the growth of industry which would
ultimately change the dynamics of the Euclid community. The zoning ordinance included 6 classes of
use, 3 classes of height, and 4 classes of area. The property that Ambler Realty owned was divided
into the three different areas of classes and it prevented Ambler Realty from developing the land for
industrial purposes. Ambler Realty filed the lawsuit because of the zoning ordinance that they said
ultimately decrease the value of the land, limited the use of the land, prevented the sale of the land and
the also claimed that it violated their right to due process. Amber

Media Influence On Sports
For the past years the media has had a big effect on society. Many people rely on the media for news
or sports coverage but they don t realize that the media may influence people s beliefs or way of
behaving. The media covers sports in order to provide information to the fans but they also can create
fake news to spark controversy in sports. The world of sports is largely affected by the media as they
are a big topic to talk about throughout all kinds of media. Although the media can provide
information of sports to fans, it can also create positive and negative conditions for the athletes. The
media s portrayal of sports creates rivalries between teams and players which increases
competitiveness, damages professional relationships, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes a rivalry can become intensely heated and it may become violent. In the sport of soccer
one of the most anticipated matches of the year is none other than Real Madrid vs Barcelona. These
two teams are great teams and are the sport s biggest rivals. Before the match is played the media
heats up the rivalry by reporting that the one team is trash talking or undervaluing the other team. At
first it is taken lightly as just a publicity stunt but when the players overhear the news, they get over
competitive. When the match is being played there is always physical fights between players and it
gets out of hand. Not one of these rival matches has passed that a player doesn t get ejected from the
game. In conclusion, this proves how the media plays a large role on the player s mentality when
going into the game and can also cause them to behave in certain ways. It is well known that the
media is capable of spreading false rumors in order to spark controversy or to get more views. The
world of sports can also be affected by the spreading of false rumors. The relationships between
athletes may be torn by the media when they spread fake news regarding players. Sometimes athletes
overhear stories about what other athletes say and they might not agree with what they said so any
kind of respect that they had for each other before is now gone. Take, for example, when news began

American Mafia vs. Italian Mafia in Cinema Essay
The gangster genre within films in America has accomplished numerous positive criticisms and
constant willing audiences due to containing outstanding spectacles and mind blowing action. The
Godfather, being second on the IMDb Top 250 Movies, has set a new popular concept to life within
the Mafia from their point of view. Doing so, creating a positive association. Yet within Italy, the same
topic contains a complete different view. Movies such as I Cento Passi demonstrate unenthusiastic
view by those whom are outside yet negatively affected by those members. Unlike American films,
the gangsters are not as often viewed at the protagonist and are the main causes for the problematic
events. But how different is Italian Mafia and American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I Cento Passi (one hundred steps), written by Marco Tullio Giordana in 2000, is a film of an explosive
story of betrayal, murder, intrigue and the Mafia, set in Cinisi, a small Sicilian seaside. The town is
run and controlled by head of the mafia, Don Tano. Peppino Impastato, a real character in history,
fought against the mafia, despite his family s connection and finally became a martyr for his cause. At
a young age he became very aware of the harsh reality of the Mafia when his uncle, who he dearly
loved, was blown up by a car bomb. He becomes a very active member of the Communist party in
Sicily and fought back against the Mafia, which few Italians would ever do at the time or even in the
present.
Thinking back to the first time watching The Godfather, the plot repeatedly wraps around the idea of
family and business. Yet the two do not reflect the central theme of the film. Death and betrayal are
foreshadowed in the cryptic dialogue, the baroque, pathos laced scenery, and in the very nature of the
incestuous institution of family in La Mafia (Russo p 37). Constantly seen is death being a symbol and
a theme within the film itself. The brutal violence, settled vendettas, and acts of murder are either
demonstrated, talked about, or become the reason or many focus in almost every scene. One symbol of
death in the film is the oranges, which appear in many scenes. Initially, it is hard to catch the first time

Dwelling in Possibilities Analysis Essay
Rhetorical Analysis Is our youth doomed? Mark Edmundson begs this question in his essay, Dwelling
in Possibilities. His essay explains how the lives of young people have changed drastically over the
years. Edmundson, professor at the University of Virginia, says his students are constantly going and
that they never stop; they never settle in fear of missing something great. In lieu of this, Edmundson
says that they are, victims of their own hunger for speed (Edmundson2). He also adds that his
students, and young people in general, use today s technology to be everywhere at once (watching a
movie, instant messaging, talking on the phone, and glancing at a textbook) and are therefore, not
anywhere in particular (Edmundson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, again, that is debatable and an author can never go wrong by proposing a solution when writing
to persuade. Besides omitting a solution, Edmundson does an excellent job persuading his readers,
especially with the use of references. Most writers, when writing to persuade, include facts and
statistics to support their viewpoint. Edmundson, however, refers to authors, and very famous ones at
that. This is a very successful method because his whole argument has to do with the lack of culture,
art, and writing, in today s youth. Referencing these authors really helps the reader to sense where he
is coming from and helps them to sense his passion for literature. Some of the authors referenced
include: Thoreau, Immanuel Kant, Gertrude Stein, Nietzche, Lord Byron, Wordsworth, and Emerson.
One reference, in particular, serves as an excellent example of how Edmundson s references are
successful in getting his point across. He compares youth to the contrasting Byron and Wordsworth,
Byron to how his students are today, and Wordsworth to how it ought to be. He states that Byron
wished to never be bored, as does today s youth (Edmundson 11). Edmundson also mentions, students
now are Romantics of a Byronic sort, and that, he would have adored their world of fast travel, fast
communication, and fast relationships (Edmundson 11). In contrast to Byron and today s youth,
Edmundson says that

A Study Of Non Invasive Measurement Techniques
Abstract Diabetes is considered to be one of the major health care epidemics of modern era. The
determination of blood glucose concentration using the self monitoring blood glucose devices
involves the chemical analysis of blood samples taken by pricking the finger or extracting blood from
forearm. The pain, discomfort and inconvenience in the current invasive method have led to the
feasibility study of non invasive measurement techniques.
In this paper, an optical method using NIR technique based on occlusion spectroscopy is used which
shows that it can be possible to measure glucose concentration in blood non invasively.
Keywords: Non invasive, spectroscopy, euglycemia, hypoglycaemia.
By using the Monte Carlo method, Katsuhiko et al. (2003) has developed a non invasive system using
near infrared [4]. To detect the glucose level, fibre optic probes was developed that consist of a source
and detector optical fibres. Both source and detector are separated by 0.65 mm, placed on the skin
surface. They reported that the correlation coefficient of blood glucose predicted by near infrared and
finger prick was 0.928 with a standard error of prediction of 32.2 mg/dL [4]. Another research based
on near infrared has been done by Ilan Gabriely, MD et al. (1999) [5].
They were using transcutaneous near infrared spectroscopy system to monitor blood glucose levels
during euglycemia and hypoglycaemia. The results proved that near infrared can be used to predict the
glucose levels in

Cameroon Research Paper
2.2.1 Cameroon Cameroon is situated by the Gulf of Guinea on the west coast of Africa. With Nigeria
located towards the west side Chad and the Central African Republic remain towards the east, whilst
the People s Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon situate towards the south. These
different populations of Cameroon are categorised simply into south, west and north groups. It s area
equates to 179,527 square miles (approximately 465,000 square kilometers). Along the Nigerian
border the Kirdi live in round homes with some villages constructed along the sides of cliffs. They
maintain their traditional religious beliefs. In the north the Fulani are dominant and make up around a
tenth of Cameroon s population. Originally cattle herders they have settled in one place as farmers and

Leadership Development Of Team Captains
This paper is an academic critique of the article by Christian Grandzol, Susan Perlis, and Lois Draina
(2010) entitled, Leadership development of team captains in collegiate athletics. Grandzol, Perlis, and
Draina were attempting to determine if participating in collegiate athletics was associated with
leadership development. The authors looked at five leadership practices that were analyzed through
the use of the Student Leadership Practice Inventory developed by James Kouzes and Barry Posner.
The author s research question was Are leadership practices of (A) model the way, (B) inspire a shared
vision, (C) challenge the process, (D) enable others to act, and (E) Encouraging the heart related to
athletic participation and leadership position? (Grandzol, Perlis, Draina, 2010, p. 405). Although the

question; are leaders born or are they developed?
Review of Literature
Leadership has many definitions and has been described by many authors, political leaders, and
common men by different means. The great Green Bay Packers coach, Vince Lombardi, once said;
Leaders aren t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And
that s the price we ll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal. The literature that the authors
reviewed justifies the argument that leaders are developed. Grandzol et al did not find much literature

Numerology in The Odyssey
Everything is named or numbered, but few people are conscious of the degree to which names and
numbers influence their experience, progress, and communication, declared Juno Jordan, the
grandmother of numerology (qtd. in Lagerquist and Lenard 4). Numerology, the language of numbers
and moreover the study of how they relate to our lives, speaks about the hidden worlds contained
within the simplest numbers. Numerology attempts to analyze numerical information, and makes a
determination of the implications and associations that these numbers have (Kelly 10). This
metaphysical science has its roots in the ancient cultures of Greece, Rome, and Egypt, and also has
ties to the Hebrew Kabbalah; it has unlocked the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This number is related to people who work better when part of a duo instead of as a member of a
group, or even all alone (Heyss 32). This number represents cooperation and as a result is often
associated in literature with people who are best when working for and interacting with other people.
There are several occasions in which Homer uses the number two when speaking of such people as
servants who are cooperative and are therefore reliable workers. One such occasion is in Odysseus s
instructions to his companions on the island of the Lotus Eaters in which he sends two men to
accompany the herald in learning about the island and its inhabitants (Homer 9.90 93). There is yet
another situation in which two handmaidens accompany and attend Penelope when she appeared
before the suitors (Homer 18.206 207). Nausikaa also slept beside two handmaidens who lay on either
side of the bedpost (Homer 6.17 19) and moreover Melanthios, driving the goats which would be the
suitor s dinner, was followed by two herdsmen (Homer 20.173 175). Such duos, as can be seen by
those presented by Homer, prefer to have somebody around to tell them what to do a portrayal of the
meaning of the number two.
The number three represents synthesis and essence; it s influence is evident in almost all religions and
philosophies, as well as in mythology (Heyss 34). The number three is embedded in the symbolism of
many powerful trinities: the Maiden, Mother and

Bread Givers, By Anzia Yezierska
In Bread Givers by Anzia Yezierska Sara is growing up as a Jewish immigrant migrated from Russia.
From a young age she has only wanted to support herself and her family. As she grows older she
begins to aspire to be something . What that something is seems unclear even to Sara. Sara is so
unsure of what she hungers for that multiple points can be argued. Some may say she hungers for
money because of the way her family has always had to scrape for pennies just to survive. Some may
argue she quests for freedom because she runs away from her family. These are decent analysis but

A Laboratory Report on Body Composition
This is a laboratory report on measuring body composition. The aim of the laboratory report was to
compare two different field methods skinfolds and bioimpedance analysis to measure body
composition and evaluate the most reliable doubly indirect method to measure body composition. A
number of studies such as Kitano,T have shown a strong correlation between skinfold and
bioelectrical impedance analysis and tend to have an average body fat difference of less than 0.6.
Body composition is a combination of numerous components these are: Fat mass, fat free mass,
Adipose tissue mass, Lean body mass and relative body fat. Fat mass is defined as all the extractable
lipids from adipose and other tissue. Fat free mass is all the left over chemicals and tissues, including
water, muscle, bone, connective tissue and internal organs. Adipose tissue mass are connective tissue
that work as the major storage site for fat. Lean body mass is everything in the body apart from body
fat. Lean body mass includes organs, blood, bones, muscles and skin. Relative body fat is the ratio
between fat mass and total body mass. Body composition is measured in many ways. Anthropometry
refers to human body composition measurement. The most accurate and direct form of measuring
body composition is cadaver dissection which involves dissecting a dead human body and determining
the fat percentage. In vivo or indirect, doubly indirect methods do not measure body composition
directly, however predict it from

Holy Spirit Jesus Ministry
The life and ministry of Jesus is usually defined as the moment where God intervened in human
history for a special purpose. This intervention occurred so humanity s relationship could be restored
to the way it was originally intended to be. Sin entered the world through the disobedience of the first
humans beings created. The relationship between God and humanity was marred and could only be
restored through the atonement of Jesus Christ. A surface look of Jesus life would produce an
overview such as this. Jesus mission on earth was to redeem humanity but there are many aspects of
His ministry that can be understood at a deeper level. The events which transpired in His ministry
could not be attributed to the man Jesus but to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A traditional Christology would attribute it to His divine nature while Spirit Christology would claim
that it was from the Spirit who empowered Him. Scripture recorded that Jesus claimed many different
times that He performed miracles through the Spirit of God including texts such as Mt. 12:28.
Observing the ministry of Jesus from the Spirit Christological perspective does not transform the
paradigm of Jesus ministry, rather it shifts the source of Jesus power. Presenting the comparison
between His divine nature and the Holy Spirit should not be a focused issue rather it should promote
insight to the interworking of Jesus ministry.
The power of the Spirit in Jesus should be an example of how believers should interact with the Spirit.
As Jesus told His disciples of the helper He would send to them (Jn 15:26), believers today have the
privilege to be empowered by the Holy Spirit as well. The disciples witnessed the miracles which
Jesus performed and from this example they were able to have powerful ministries as well. Jesus
ministry consisted of redeeming humanity from sin, performing miracles full of the Spirit and making
available the power of the Spirit. His mission did not stop at establishing the Kingdom on earth, the
great commission provides guidance to believers with what He wants for the Kingdom. The work of
the Holy Spirit in Jesus ministry did not start at the baptism at the Jordan rather it started much earlier

Examples Of Inhumanity In Tuesdays With Morrie
Where would the world be without humanity? Would it be laying in ruins because of needless wars
fought? Perhaps there would be a so called master race that exterminated any person that slightly
deviated from what was deemed perfect. Maybe there would be no more humans left at all. Humanity
binds the human race together. The caring for other people and not just thinking about yourself. The
word is humanity, and the root of that is human. This concept is central to all our beliefs. Just like a
coin though, there is a flip side. Inhumanity, when humans do not act like regular humans. To be
described as inhuman a person has to be extremely nefarious. These people that commit inhuman acts
upon others are treated as monsters, and by all rights are monsters. Both of the books we read this
semester dealt with humanity and inhumanity. Although one book clearly had a lot more inhumanity

The FDA and Compounding pharmacies

The first element that we must address is what is compounding. Compounding is a practice in which a
licensed pharmacist, a licensed physician, or, in the case of an outsourcing facility, a person under the
supervision of a licensed pharmacist, combines, mixes, or alters ingredients of a drug to create a

Fracking, An Unregulated Chemical Cocktail Essay
INTRODUCTION What is Fracking? Fracking is a mining approach in which a well in drilled
thousands of feet deep into the Earth for the express purpose of gathering oil and gas from fuel
reserves deep within its crust. Essentially, drill teams pierce through the planets sediment layers, water
table and shale rock formations before placing a casing of cement as a sort of access valve to the raw
fuel. This casing also acts as a channel for colossal amounts of water, sand and 50,000 gallons of
fracking fluid used to extract the fuel from its location in the Earth. Fracking fluid, an unregulated
chemical cocktail consisting of Naphthenic Acidethoxylate or Poly (Oxy `1,2 Ethanediyl), Alpha (4
Nonylphenyl) Omega Hydroxy , Branched and other undisclosed chemicals, is maybe the most
controversial element of the fracking process. When these fluids are dispensed into a well, a plethora
of chemical reactions occur allowing oil and gas to be separated from shale in the earth and collected
in its raw forms, before being transported to facilities for refining. In many instances, explosives such
as TNT are set off before these solutions are poured as a means of rupturing and clearing bedrock.
Since the development of this modern deep earth fracking technology, many scientists,
environmentalists and health advocates have shown a concern for the health effects the method has on
the surrounding regions. Current evidence shows that fracking is a high risk method of drilling,

William Shakespeare s Henry Iv
Throughout the play Henry IV part 1, Shakespeare was able to depict the concept of honor through
many different individuals. Three main characters that Shakespeare choose to display the concept of
honor are Prince Hal, Hotspur and Falstaff. However, each of these characters interpret the word
honor differently. Hotspur has an obsession with honor and believes it s one of the most important
roles a leader has to show. He relates honor to the duties that he serves on the battlefield and
repetition. While Falstaff believes that honor is a word that only stays with people who have died,
therefore he finds no importance in seeking honor. Prince Hal was able to find a balance between the
two which allowed him to show key features in a leader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he has defeated Archibald and taken prisoners which included few with high political

begins to express how impressed he is of Hotspurs achievements. In envy that my Lord

this statement the King is implying that Hotspurs father (Northumberland) is blessed to have such a
successful and fearless son, and that he is a perfect example of a man with honor. This truly shapes the
concept of honor that Hotspur takes on through the rest of the play. Since he has now been so honored
by the King for his bloodthirsty acts on the battlefield Hotspur nearly became brainwashed and
allowed his words to shape his every thought. He then made a plan to ransom Mortimer. In which the
King soon refused to do. Hotspur viewed this as a dishonorable action of the King so he then seeked
out to overthrow the King with Northumberland and Worcester to regain the honor that was lost
through the Kings mistreatment to him. This shows that Hotspur believes he will gain honor by
fighting in battles, and even if he dies he still would die with great honor. Hotspur goes on to say To
pluck bright honor from the pale faced moon, or dive into the bottom of the deep. This projects how

Differences Of The Protestant Church And The Roman...
During the Reformation, Martin Luther found problems within the Roman Catholic Church and
decided that he no longer desired to follow their ways. As a follower of Christ, he instead turned to the
Bible to rediscover truths that the Church had twisted. Now, because of Luther s then radical ideology,
we have two different bodies of Christ: the Protestant Church and the Roman Catholic Church. Today,
there are many differences between them concerning fundamental beliefs and how the church should
operate.
One difference between Protestants and Catholics is where they get their teachings from. Protestants
focus only on the Bible. They believe that it is the only source of information about who God is and
what He has done. They only use the Bible for the foundations of their faith and for how to live out
your faith in your daily life. From the Hebrew Bible of twenty four books, Protestants made thirty nine
books with the exact same information. The Catholic Bible includes several more books that are
derived from another Hebrew canon called the Septuagint. During the Reformation, the Protestants
decided that these books shouldn t be in the Christian Bible because they aren t in the Hebrew Bible,
but the Catholic Church disagreed. Secondly, Protestants differ from Catholics because Christianity
splits into many denominations, whereas Catholics have no denominations. They are all one Church,
under the Pope, sharing the same beliefs in every Catholic church. Even though Protestants

The Performance And Reward Management System
Performance ratings is part of the performance and reward management system that used to support
organisations personnel decisions in performance appraisal, promotion, compensation, and employee
development (Yun, Donahus, Dudley, McFarland, 2005). Accurate performance ratings are
fundamental to the success or failure of the performance management process, therefore, raters have
been suggested to be fully trained to minimise potential errors in performance ratings (Biron,
Farndale, Paauwe, 2011). Several rater training programs have been developed to enhance the quality
of performance ratings, such as rater error training and frame of reference training (MacDonald
Sulsky, 2009). Nevertheless, not all rater training programs have been equally successful, many
researchers have demonstrated the effectiveness of frame of reference training in increasing rating
accuracy (Woehr, 1994; Keown Gerrard Sulsky, 2001; Roch, Woehr, Mishra, Kieszczynska, 2012).
The following will assess the effectiveness of frame of reference training in increasing rating quality
through comprehensive examination of its validity, accuracy and reliability.
Explanation for Frame of Reference Training
Early approaches to rater training were focused mainly on reducing raters common errors,
(MacDonald Sulsky, 2009). However, rater error training has been proven ineffective in actual
application. Researchers have found that rater error training may teach raters to use inappropriate

The Effects Of The Seebeck Effect
Introduction
1.1 Seebeck Effect
When two ends of a conductor are held at different temperatures electrons at
the hot junction at higher thermal velocities diffuse to the cold junction. Seebeck
discovered that making one end of a metal bar hotter or colder than the other produced
an EMF between the two ends. He experimented with junctions (simple mechanical
connections) made between different conducting materials. He found that if he created
a temperature difference between two electrically connected junctions (e.g., heating
one of the junctions and cooling the other) the wire connecting the two junctions
would cause a compass needle to deflect. He thought that he had discovered a way to
transform thermal energy into a magnetic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
āž¢ TH and TC are the hot and cold thermocouple temperatures, respectively, in ok.
The reverse of the Seebeck effect is also possible: by passing a current through two
junctions, you can create a temperature difference. This process was discovered in
1834 by scientist named Peltier, and thus it is called the Peltier effect. This may sound
similar to Joule heating described above, but in fact it is not. In Joule heating the
current is only increasing the temperature in the material in which it flows. In Peltier
effect devices, a temperature difference is created: one junction becomes cooler and
one junction becomes hotter. Although Peltier coolers are not as efficient as some
other types of cooling devices, they are accurate, easy to control, and easy to adjust.
Peltier effect devices are used coolers for microelectronic devices such as
microcontrollers and computer CPU. Peltier found there was an opposite phenomenon
to the Seebeck Effect, whereby thermal energy could be absorbed at one dissimilar
metal junction and discharged at the other junction when an electric current flowed
within the closed circuit. the thermocouple circuit is modified to obtain a

Law of Unilateral Mistake
RESEARCH ESSAY Cases under the law of mistake can be divided into common, mutual and
unilateral mistake; however this discussion is based on unilateral mistake, as Stephen Graw said:
Operative unilateral mistake occurs when only one party in the contract is mistaken, the other party is
or should be aware of that mistake and yet he purports to proceed with the agreement anyway. Cases
under unilateral mistake can be divided into three categories: Firstly mistaken identity, secondly
mistake as to the terms of a contract and thirdly mistake as to the nature of a document signed. The
main focus in this discussion is mistaken identity, where one party is mistaken as to the identity of
another. Mistaken identity may happen in two different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In King s Norton Metal Co v Edridge, Merret amp; Co Ltd, it was held that there was a contract
between King s Norton and Wallis, for the simple reason that there was no such entity called Hallam
amp; Co, and hence good title passed from King s Norton to the rogue, and later to the defendant; and
thus the defendants were therefore not liable to pay back the goods or its value to King s Norton.
Therefore the effect of unilateral mistake is that it will make a contract void or voidable, and hence to
identify which one of the two parties has the right to the title of the goods. It has been said that if a
party makes a mistake as to the identity of the person he is contracting with then there is no contract,
or if there is a contract then it is void such that no property can transfer under it. The legal principle
prior to Phillips v Brooks is that depending on the facts, if the court s decision is that the contract is
void for mistake then the mistaken party still has the right to the title of the goods as it was seen in
Cundy v Lindsay, or the mistaken party will have no legal obligation to pay for the goods as it was
seen in Boulton v Jones. However, if the contract is just voidable then the good title goes to

Managed Care Through The Delivery Of Health Care
Managed care integrates the delivery of health care and financing of health care. In managed care,
insurance companies controls the cost, quality, and access of medical care to beneficiaries by limiting
the reimbursement levels paid to providers,, by reducing utilization, or both (Beik, 2014, p. 116).
There are different types of managed care. Some of the most common types of managed care are
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and Health Maintenance Organizations. Managed care
programs uses different interventions such as economic incentives for doctors and patients, increased
cost sharing, controls on inpatient admission and length of stays, and so forth (Deom, Agoritsas,
Bovier, Perneger, 2010, p. 1). On the other hand, managed care tools such as gate keeping, health care
networks, second opinion requirement, and pre approval requirement for expensive treatments or
hospitalization has changed healthcare delivery on both the macro and micro levels. On the micro
level, it greatly impacts the quality of care, cost, autonomy, and relations with patients. According to
the research study, managed care greatly affects physicians. It reduces career satisfaction through its
impact on doctors autonomy and the pressure caused by managed care may affect the doctor s ability
to provide high quality of medical care. (Deom, Agoritsas, Bovier, Perneger, 2010, p. 7). Like for
example, managed care contracting has a positive and negative impact on physicians and patients. The

U.s. Marine Corps And The Military
After watching this film for several times, a viewpoint comes into my mind that almost all of people
are not inborn soldiers, but it s quite clear that most of them could be soldiers through a series of
training in the army. Unlike a majority of jobs in our daily lives, soldiering could be more complicated
and it needs people to take a high level of risk in the war and even some people sacrifice their lives in
order to defend their countries rights and protect citizens safety. Therefore, many people may have
formed a false concept that only specific groups of people are suitable for selecting as soldiers. In fact,
anyone s son will do it and they can do it very well. In the end of this film, most soldiers family
members express that they are proud of their sons or daughters. That s because their sons or daughters
assume responsibility and make great contributions to the society.
The storyline of this film is about the basic training in the military. This film s scenario is about the
U.S. Marine Corps. In this film, it shows us the details of recruiting soldiers and some procedures
about how to train these young people into soldiers and killers. In the beginning of this film presents a
picture of the Soviet Union soldiers and also tells us that these people would be the U.S. soldiers, if

The Old Breed
Firstly, With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa, was a very interesting book. I am an individual
that is not a fan of reading, but this book was interesting to say the lease. I would recommend anyone
who is interested in knowing about the reality of going into the combat. In this book, I was very
impressed that the author of the book, who goes by the name of Eugene B. Sledge, did an amazing job
telling the readers in details what he experienced during his enlistment. Eugene Sledge, who was also
a Marine and proud to be with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine regiment, 1st Marine Division,
made sure to take his memoir to an entire different level than other memoirs, that gave an account of
what they may have experienced during the war. E.B. Sledge, made ... Show more content on

Okinawa was known as the longest and largest battle (157). This time, causing more casualties than
previously. As mentioned previously, Okinawa was Japanese territory and they knew the terrain
perfectly. This time, not only was there constant rain, but constant shelling. Constant shelling made it
very difficult for Americans. It was very difficult for them to get those men who were wounded and
needed help. Taking such risk, would sometimes cause the casualties and stretcher bearers to get hit.
As a result, they would have to leave behind the marines who died on Okinawa unlike Peleliu. From
my experience, of all the hardships and hazards the troops had suffer, prolonged shell fire was more
apt to break a man psychologically than anything else (265). The Americans had to be vigilant at all
times. Most nights on Peleliu, we had to keep a sharp lookout in front, rear, right and left. But that
night on Okinawa, we had to scan even the dark sky for parachutes (220). The Japanase wanted to
ensure by any means necessary that there was bloodshed, even if they had to literally put their own life
on the line. To ensure that, the Japanese had kamikaze and suicide

Feminist Criticism Of The Bloody Chamber
2. Feminist Criticism and Angela Carter
In order to better understand the scope of this theses, this chapter introduces the literary criticism that
is used to explain the position of women in a short story collection The Bloody Chamber by Angela
Carter through the notion of cannibalism. In her short story collection, Carter deals with issues that
concern feminism as the movement, and women as the part of the society. In order to understand
Angela Carters short story collection and the way women are represented and treated in The Bloody
Chamber, this thesis uses feminist literary criticism that is explained in the following paragraphs.
According to Louis Tyson feminist criticism examines the ways in which literature (and other cultural

She is not afraid of telling her audience that women are not fairy tale princesses and that life does not
have a happy ending. She is one of the most appreciated British female writers, well known for her
eccentric writing. She explores themes of incest, sexuality, and femininity in her novels and short
stories. Some of her well known works other than The Bloody Chamber include Shadow Dance
(1966), The Magic Toyshop (1967), The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman (1972), and
many others (Gordon, 2016). Angela Carters writings are a magical twist on fairy tales, novels, and
non fiction works. She tries to give her readers the possibility to become explorers and find a solution
to the problem, or simply come to the conclusion themselves rather than being led by the author.
Carter enjoys playing games with her readers and she admits that in an interview with Anna Katsavos
where she stated that she is playing games with readers constantly: I was reading The Company of
Wolves the other day, and there are a whole lot of verbal games in that that I really enjoy doing, the
deer departed for example (A Conversation with Angela Carter). Her writing is extraordinary and
rereading her novels or short stories is another experience for a reader because of wordplay and
different images she uses so that the reader can always apprehend something

Jmima Emerson s Character Qualities
When you think of young women in the late 1700s what comes to mind? For me it is a taskful life
filled with chores and taking care of siblings and being sold off and married when the time comes, not
for this brave adolescent.Time Enough For Drums written by Ann Rinaldi includes a main character
Jemima Emerson. She is a 15 year old girl who lives in Trenton, New Jersey and is not ready for what
is coming in the future. Through the book Jemima encounters much chaos that gives her no choice but
to grow up and take charge. You would never think a teenager would have as much sense of humor,
responsibility and be as vindictive as Jemima Emerson.
Jemima Emerson has many different character traits that all describe her and her unique personality. To
begin with, Jem is very brave. She has to deal with so much throughout the book that she does not let
get to her. She deals with everything in a mature and sophisticated manner. For example, she had to go
through father dying, mothers grieving period and Raymond. When Jems father died it was a massive
loss for her whole family, including her but she had to be the first to live with the pain because her
mother didn t forgot about everyone and everything and moved into the Moore s because she could
not deal with the heartache, Jem had to get her out of this phase and let mother know father s death
was not her fault . Next, Jem had to deal with the loss of a close friend. Raymond Moore had gotten
sick and died around the same time John

The Roles Of Gladiators In The Movie Pompeii
The movie Pompeii portrays two slaves fighting as gladiators in ancient Rome and the eruption of a
nearby volcano. Gladiators were people who were armed with a weapon to in a public area against
another person or a wild animal, for the entertainment of the audience (dictionary.com). There,
gladiator fights occurred often in arenas. One of the most famous was the Colosseum. Half of the
time, gladiators were actually slaves (Wood). Though they seldom died, other spinoffs of their battles
would transpire. For instance, sea battles and fights fought with wild animals would take their place
(Wood). These types generally resulted in more than one death. Ancient Romans enjoyed watching
them clash their swords together and, if they paid extra, battle until death (Bancroft Hunt). People who
needed to pay off debts, were ex soldiers, prisoners of wars, volunteers (in place of military service),
or slaves became gladiators (Wood). One derivative of the fights were them being showcased in water
sea battles. Frequently, they ended up with more than one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ironically, they were former soldiers, volunteers, prisoners of wars, people who needed to pay off
debts, or, half of the time, slaves. Slaves were forcefully trained to become gladiators (Wood). In the
school, it was difficult to escape. Certain schools only had one guarded entrance that served as an exit
as well (Wood). Although they were well fed, paid for each fight, able to keep the gifts and rewards
they received, had medical treatment, and commonly they only needed to engage in fights three to five
times per year, schools were rough nonetheless. Novicius , new gladiators, were bound with restraints.
Training occurred every day, but the gladiator s actual viewed fight had few designated times
throughout the year (Alchin). Even though gladiators used to be at the bottom of the social status
triangle, Roman citizens would spend a great deal of money on

To What Extent Does the Human Relations Approach to the...
This paper compares and contrasts two popular management schools of thought, Scientific
Management and the Human Relations Approach. Both methods are designed to maximise business
potential through better organisation, but they differ greatly in the way they seek to achieve it.
Scientific Management represents an organisation centred approach that is based on improving worker
output through optimised technical methods and strict management. The Human Relations Approach
focuses on the workers themselves and suggests strong worker relationships, recognition and
achievement are motivators for increased productivity (Daft, 2006). This essay will define each
management method and consider the main contributors to these schools of thought. It ... Show more

Large manufacturing businesses such as Ford and General Motors were experiencing rapid expansion
and were looking to management methods to increase output and focus the efficiency of their workers.
Many of Taylor s principles were adopted in factory production and throughout the 20th century the
application of scientific principles had a marked affect on productivity. Ironically, as a result of
increased production, the general standard of living improved and so did worker dissatisfaction with
the method. Union management and a popular interest in the human factor (by behavioural scientists)
resulted in a productivity slowdown. This prompted organisations to relocate their work force to
developing countries with cheaper labour, a mirror of the original conditions that allowed scientific
management to thrive in the west (Oman, 2000). Organisations were now looking to new management
methods to satisfy the increasing needs of their workforce and regain productivity and many found it
in the form of the Human Relations Approach (Wilson 1990).
The Human Relations Approach represents a significant departure from the automated and
dehumanized approach of Scientific Management. Where Scientific Management concentrates on
technique and output, the Human Relations Approach focuses on the individual and organisational
change through human interactions (Baldridge 1972). It challenges the concept of managers think and

  • 2. Theseus In The Maze Runner The book and recent movie adaptation, The Maze Runner, is strongly related to the life of Theseus and more specifically the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur in the labyrinth. The relationship and the similarities are clearly demonstrated through Thomas s character and personality while comparing him to Theseus. The main characters are not the only aspect of this series that is influenced by Greek mythology; the animals, or grievers are a representation of the Minotaur and the challenges they present to the children. Also, simply based on the title, the setting is another indisputable connection to the myth of the labyrinth. The plot of the book is where one can notice the most obvious connections to the myth. For example, the story centers around young boys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though discrepancies occur, such as the time spans or the genders of the children, it is undeniable that this story is almost completely based off of the Greek myth. Some other general plot similarities include; the minotaur/griever attacks on the children, the heroes voluntary choice to go against the animals, and the 50/50 body composition of the animals Minotaur is half human and half animal while the grievers are half animal and half human made machine. Taking a deeper look at the main character, Thomas, we see many characteristics that would be considered heroic ones in the Greek and Roman times. The most evident connection is through their willingness to risk their lives. Although Thomas did not volunteer to go to the Glade as Theseus had, he did chose to go inside the maze and risk his life there among the grievers in the hopes of finding an escape. Fiddler On The Roof Analysis Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein s 1964 classic Fiddler on the Roof, previewed by Wright State University on November 1, 2017 under the direction of W. Stuart McDowell, highlighted the balancing act one family has with their time honored traditions. With not only the encroachment of Russian influence, the small Ukrainian village of Anatevka had to learn how to keep their Jewish faith strong in the midst of changing times, power, and the whims of the lead s daughters. Inspired by the French painter Marc Chagall, the overall design supported the themes of the show and abstract style. Produced in a more presentational style, the lighting, costume, and set design were essential and effective in clarifying the focus of the production and worked well in conjunction. Matthew P. Benjamin s lighting gave focus to the production and supported the mood in each moment. Being the driving character for the show, focus was often given to Tevye, especially during his monologues. Even when other characters were on stage, including members of his family, the lights came down and Tevye would be under a tight focus during these moments like when Tzeitel and Motel express their intentions to get married in Act 1 and subsequently Perchik and Hodel s same wish in Act 2. Another time focus was given to the characters in a scene rather than the overall setting was during the Fruma Sarah sequence. The use of shinbusters in wing one and cross light gave more focus to the action and added ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If a second layer of popsicle sticks is added to a model floodgate made out of popsicle sticks, then the two layer floodgate will be able to block more water. The control variables for this experiment include where both tests were conducted (bathtub), the materials used for each floodgate (same brand of popsicle sticks), the 20x6.x8.5 floral foam blocks on each side of the bathtub, the location in the bathtub that the floodgates were placed in; all of these variables were the same for each experiment. The independent variable was how many liters of water in the bathtub at one time. The dependent variable was the amount of water the floodgate held back (measured in how high the water level was on the south end of the bathtub). The floodgate with one layer was the control group; the two layered one was the experimental group. The first procedure for this experiment was to gather your materials. Next was to build the floodgates and set up the bathtub. To conduct the experiment, pour 2 liters of water into the bathtub from the south end at a time, and log the results. • 9. Modern Landscape Design Is The Arrangement Of Environments... Modernism, in the context of landscape design, is a result of forms and functions that reflect the need for outdoor living spaces that enhance contemporary lifestyles. As Garrett Eckbo, one of the central figures in modern landscape architecture, said, landscape design is the arrangement of environments for people. Contemporary garden design tends to focus on scale as opposed to formal landscape designs that are based on axial relationships. It also foregoes the more classic landscape design forms and larger scale from Greek, Roman, and classical architecture traditions. This design motif became popular in the 1950 s baby boom, particularly in California where weather and lifestyle was very conducive to this innovative style. In modern landscape design, boundaries between areas of color, textures and shapes are undefined or conversely, sharply defined. Color and composition create the emotional response. Combining freshness and flair, these designs use dramatic geometric shapes to create a point of view that is fluid and natural. Water and light are often used, as in artfully lit outdoor water fountains, to enhance the sensual loveliness and liveliness. The designs are arresting, both close up and far away. Form and Function in Modern Landscape Design As the maxim says, form follows function. Modern landscape design is an aesthetic that shows only what is necessary while often leaving surfaces exposed. The simplicity of modern design reveals itself in that every form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

CRF is the main regulator of the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis and is secreted by the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus4. ACTH mainly targets the adrenal cortex where it stimulates production of glucocorticoids5 by increasing RNA, DNA and protein synthesis3. The second wave is slower and involves steroid hormones, such as glucocorticoids2, more specifically cortisol in humans5. Glucocorticoids bind to glucocorticoid receptors which are found in the majority of tissues3. Thus they have a wide range of targets and actions, and so regulate metabolic, cardiovascular, immune and behavioural processes2. One which is relevant to responding to stress is the target of the adrenal medulla which when targeted increases PMNT expression and activity which stimulates epinephrine synthesis3. Another important target is the liver where the effect is an increased expression of gluconeogenic enzymes3 which helps to increase metabolic activity. The village, in attempt to prevent Cleveland industrializing their suburban neighborhood on November 13, 1922, general counsel created a zoning ordinance for Euclid as an effort to stop the growth of industry which would ultimately change the dynamics of the Euclid community. The zoning ordinance included 6 classes of use, 3 classes of height, and 4 classes of area. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I Cento Passi (one hundred steps), written by Marco Tullio Giordana in 2000, is a film of an explosive story of betrayal, murder, intrigue and the Mafia, set in Cinisi, a small Sicilian seaside. The town is run and controlled by head of the mafia, Don Tano. Peppino Impastato, a real character in history, fought against the mafia, despite his family s connection and finally became a martyr for his cause. At a young age he became very aware of the harsh reality of the Mafia when his uncle, who he dearly loved, was blown up by a car bomb. He becomes a very active member of the Communist party in Sicily and fought back against the Mafia, which few Italians would ever do at the time or even in the present. Thinking back to the first time watching The Godfather, the plot repeatedly wraps around the idea of family and business. Yet the two do not reflect the central theme of the film. Death and betrayal are foreshadowed in the cryptic dialogue, the baroque, pathos laced scenery, and in the very nature of the incestuous institution of family in La Mafia (Russo p 37). Constantly seen is death being a symbol and a theme within the film itself. The brutal violence, settled vendettas, and acts of murder are either demonstrated, talked about, or become the reason or many focus in almost every scene. His essay explains how the lives of young people have changed drastically over the years. Edmundson, professor at the University of Virginia, says his students are constantly going and that they never stop; they never settle in fear of missing something great. In lieu of this, Edmundson says that they are, victims of their own hunger for speed (Edmundson2). Besides omitting a solution, Edmundson does an excellent job persuading his readers, especially with the use of references. Most writers, when writing to persuade, include facts and statistics to support their viewpoint. Edmundson, however, refers to authors, and very famous ones at that. This is a very successful method because his whole argument has to do with the lack of culture, art, and writing, in today s youth. Referencing these authors really helps the reader to sense where he is coming from and helps them to sense his passion for literature. Some of the authors referenced include: Thoreau, Immanuel Kant, Gertrude Stein, Nietzche, Lord Byron, Wordsworth, and Emerson. One reference, in particular, serves as an excellent example of how Edmundson s references are successful in getting his point across. He compares youth to the contrasting Byron and Wordsworth, Byron to how his students are today, and Wordsworth to how it ought to be. He states that Byron wished to never be bored, as does today s youth (Edmundson 11). Edmundson also mentions, students now are Romantics of a Byronic sort, and that, he would have adored their world of fast travel, fast communication, and fast relationships (Edmundson 11). • 20. A Study Of Non Invasive Measurement Techniques Abstract Diabetes is considered to be one of the major health care epidemics of modern era. The determination of blood glucose concentration using the self monitoring blood glucose devices involves the chemical analysis of blood samples taken by pricking the finger or extracting blood from forearm. The pain, discomfort and inconvenience in the current invasive method have led to the feasibility study of non invasive measurement techniques. In this paper, an optical method using NIR technique based on occlusion spectroscopy is used which shows that it can be possible to measure glucose concentration in blood non invasively. Keywords: Non invasive, spectroscopy, euglycemia, hypoglycaemia. By using the Monte Carlo method, Katsuhiko et al. (2003) has developed a non invasive system using near infrared [4]. To detect the glucose level, fibre optic probes was developed that consist of a source and detector optical fibres. Both source and detector are separated by 0.65 mm, placed on the skin surface. They reported that the correlation coefficient of blood glucose predicted by near infrared and finger prick was 0.928 with a standard error of prediction of 32.2 mg/dL [4]. Another research based on near infrared has been done by Ilan Gabriely, MD et al. (1999) [5]. • 23. Leadership Development Of Team Captains This paper is an academic critique of the article by Christian Grandzol, Susan Perlis, and Lois Draina (2010) entitled, Leadership development of team captains in collegiate athletics. Grandzol, Perlis, and Draina were attempting to determine if participating in collegiate athletics was associated with leadership development. The authors looked at five leadership practices that were analyzed through the use of the Student Leadership Practice Inventory developed by James Kouzes and Barry Posner. The author s research question was Are leadership practices of (A) model the way, (B) inspire a shared vision, (C) challenge the process, (D) enable others to act, and (E) Encouraging the heart related to athletic participation and leadership position? (Grandzol, Perlis, Draina, 2010, p. 405). This number is related to people who work better when part of a duo instead of as a member of a group, or even all alone (Heyss 32). This number represents cooperation and as a result is often associated in literature with people who are best when working for and interacting with other people. There are several occasions in which Homer uses the number two when speaking of such people as servants who are cooperative and are therefore reliable workers. One such occasion is in Odysseus s instructions to his companions on the island of the Lotus Eaters in which he sends two men to accompany the herald in learning about the island and its inhabitants (Homer 9.90 93). There is yet another situation in which two handmaidens accompany and attend Penelope when she appeared before the suitors (Homer 18.206 207). A number of studies such as Kitano,T have shown a strong correlation between skinfold and bioelectrical impedance analysis and tend to have an average body fat difference of less than 0.6. Body composition is a combination of numerous components these are: Fat mass, fat free mass, Adipose tissue mass, Lean body mass and relative body fat. Fat mass is defined as all the extractable lipids from adipose and other tissue. Fat free mass is all the left over chemicals and tissues, including water, muscle, bone, connective tissue and internal organs. Adipose tissue mass are connective tissue that work as the major storage site for fat. Lean body mass is everything in the body apart from body fat. Lean body mass includes organs, blood, bones, muscles and skin. Relative body fat is the ratio between fat mass and total body mass. Body composition is measured in many ways. Anthropometry refers to human body composition measurement. • 32. Fracking, An Unregulated Chemical Cocktail Essay INTRODUCTION What is Fracking? Fracking is a mining approach in which a well in drilled thousands of feet deep into the Earth for the express purpose of gathering oil and gas from fuel reserves deep within its crust. Essentially, drill teams pierce through the planets sediment layers, water table and shale rock formations before placing a casing of cement as a sort of access valve to the raw fuel. This casing also acts as a channel for colossal amounts of water, sand and 50,000 gallons of fracking fluid used to extract the fuel from its location in the Earth. Fracking fluid, an unregulated chemical cocktail consisting of Naphthenic Acidethoxylate or Poly (Oxy `1,2 Ethanediyl), Alpha (4 Nonylphenyl) Omega Hydroxy , Branched and other undisclosed chemicals, is maybe the most controversial element of the fracking process. When these fluids are dispensed into a well, a plethora of chemical reactions occur allowing oil and gas to be separated from shale in the earth and collected in its raw forms, before being transported to facilities for refining. In many instances, explosives such as TNT are set off before these solutions are poured as a means of rupturing and clearing bedrock. Since the development of this modern deep earth fracking technology, many scientists, environmentalists and health advocates have shown a concern for the health effects the method has on the surrounding regions. Hotspur has an obsession with honor and believes it s one of the most important roles a leader has to show. He relates honor to the duties that he serves on the battlefield and repetition. • 34. Differences Of The Protestant Church And The Roman... During the Reformation, Martin Luther found problems within the Roman Catholic Church and decided that he no longer desired to follow their ways. As a follower of Christ, he instead turned to the Bible to rediscover truths that the Church had twisted. Now, because of Luther s then radical ideology, we have two different bodies of Christ: the Protestant Church and the Roman Catholic Church. Today, there are many differences between them concerning fundamental beliefs and how the church should operate. One difference between Protestants and Catholics is where they get their teachings from. Protestants focus only on the Bible. They believe that it is the only source of information about who God is and what He has done. They only use the Bible for the foundations of their faith and for how to live out your faith in your daily life. From the Hebrew Bible of twenty four books, Protestants made thirty nine books with the exact same information. The Catholic Bible includes several more books that are derived from another Hebrew canon called the Septuagint. During the Reformation, the Protestants decided that these books shouldn t be in the Christian Bible because they aren t in the Hebrew Bible, but the Catholic Church disagreed. Secondly, Protestants differ from Catholics because Christianity splits into many denominations, whereas Catholics have no denominations. The Performance And Reward Management System Performance ratings is part of the performance and reward management system that used to support organisations personnel decisions in performance appraisal, promotion, compensation, and employee development (Yun, Donahus, Dudley, McFarland, 2005). Accurate performance ratings are fundamental to the success or failure of the performance management process, therefore, raters have been suggested to be fully trained to minimise potential errors in performance ratings (Biron, Farndale, Paauwe, 2011). Several rater training programs have been developed to enhance the quality of performance ratings, such as rater error training and frame of reference training (MacDonald Sulsky, 2009). Nevertheless, not all rater training programs have been equally successful, many researchers have demonstrated the effectiveness of frame of reference training in increasing rating accuracy (Woehr, 1994; Keown Gerrard Sulsky, 2001; Roch, Woehr, Mishra, Kieszczynska, 2012). The following will assess the effectiveness of frame of reference training in increasing rating quality through comprehensive examination of its validity, accuracy and reliability. He experimented with junctions (simple mechanical connections) made between different conducting materials. Cases under unilateral mistake can be divided into three categories: Firstly mistaken identity, secondly mistake as to the terms of a contract and thirdly mistake as to the nature of a document signed. Marine Corps And The Military After watching this film for several times, a viewpoint comes into my mind that almost all of people are not inborn soldiers, but it s quite clear that most of them could be soldiers through a series of training in the army. Unlike a majority of jobs in our daily lives, soldiering could be more complicated and it needs people to take a high level of risk in the war and even some people sacrifice their lives in order to defend their countries rights and protect citizens safety. Therefore, many people may have formed a false concept that only specific groups of people are suitable for selecting as soldiers. In fact, anyone s son will do it and they can do it very well. In the end of this film, most soldiers family members express that they are proud of their sons or daughters. That s because their sons or daughters assume responsibility and make great contributions to the society. The storyline of this film is about the basic training in the military. • 42. The Old Breed Firstly, With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa, was a very interesting book. I am an individual that is not a fan of reading, but this book was interesting to say the lease. I would recommend anyone who is interested in knowing about the reality of going into the combat. In this book, I was very impressed that the author of the book, who goes by the name of Eugene B. Sledge, did an amazing job telling the readers in details what he experienced during his enlistment. Eugene Sledge, who was also a Marine and proud to be with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine regiment, 1st Marine Division, made sure to take his memoir to an entire different level than other memoirs, that gave an account of what they may have experienced during the war. As mentioned previously, Okinawa was Japanese territory and they knew the terrain perfectly. This time, not only was there constant rain, but constant shelling. Constant shelling made it very difficult for Americans. It was very difficult for them to get those men who were wounded and needed help. Taking such risk, would sometimes cause the casualties and stretcher bearers to get hit. As a result, they would have to leave behind the marines who died on Okinawa unlike Peleliu. From my experience, of all the hardships and hazards the troops had suffer, prolonged shell fire was more apt to break a man psychologically than anything else (265). The Americans had to be vigilant at all times. Most nights on Peleliu, we had to keep a sharp lookout in front, rear, right and left. But that night on Okinawa, we had to scan even the dark sky for parachutes (220). The Japanase wanted to ensure by any means necessary that there was bloodshed, even if they had to literally put their own life on the line. To ensure that, the Japanese had kamikaze and suicide ... She is not afraid of telling her audience that women are not fairy tale princesses and that life does not have a happy ending. She is one of the most appreciated British female writers, well known for her eccentric writing. She explores themes of incest, sexuality, and femininity in her novels and short stories. Some of her well known works other than The Bloody Chamber include Shadow Dance (1966), The Magic Toyshop (1967), The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman (1972), and many others (Gordon, 2016). Angela Carters writings are a magical twist on fairy tales, novels, and non fiction works. She tries to give her readers the possibility to become explorers and find a solution to the problem, or simply come to the conclusion themselves rather than being led by the author. Carter enjoys playing games with her readers and she admits that in an interview with Anna Katsavos where she stated that she is playing games with readers constantly: I was reading The Company of Wolves the other day, and there are a whole lot of verbal games in that that I really enjoy doing, the deer departed for example (A Conversation with Angela Carter). Her writing is extraordinary and rereading her novels or short stories is another experience for a reader because of wordplay and different images she uses so that the reader can always apprehend something ... • 45. The Roles Of Gladiators In The Movie Pompeii The movie Pompeii portrays two slaves fighting as gladiators in ancient Rome and the eruption of a nearby volcano. Gladiators were people who were armed with a weapon to in a public area against another person or a wild animal, for the entertainment of the audience (dictionary.com). There, gladiator fights occurred often in arenas. One of the most famous was the Colosseum. Half of the time, gladiators were actually slaves (Wood). Though they seldom died, other spinoffs of their battles would transpire. For instance, sea battles and fights fought with wild animals would take their place (Wood). These types generally resulted in more than one death. Ancient Romans enjoyed watching them clash their swords together and, if they paid extra, battle until death (Bancroft Hunt). People who needed to pay off debts, were ex soldiers, prisoners of wars, volunteers (in place of military service), or slaves became gladiators (Wood). Both methods are designed to maximise business potential through better organisation, but they differ greatly in the way they seek to achieve it. Scientific Management represents an organisation centred approach that is based on improving worker output through optimised technical methods and strict management. The Human Relations Approach focuses on the workers themselves and suggests strong worker relationships, recognition and achievement are motivators for increased productivity (Daft, 2006). This essay will define each management method and consider the main contributors to these schools of thought. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Large manufacturing businesses such as Ford and General Motors were experiencing rapid expansion and were looking to management methods to increase output and focus the efficiency of their workers. Many of Taylor s principles were adopted in factory production and throughout the 20th century the application of scientific principles had a marked affect on productivity. Ironically, as a result of increased production, the general standard of living improved and so did worker dissatisfaction with the method. Union management and a popular interest in the human factor (by behavioural scientists) resulted in a productivity slowdown. This prompted organisations to relocate their work force to developing countries with cheaper labour, a mirror of the original conditions that allowed scientific management to thrive in the west (Oman, 2000). Organisations were now looking to new management methods to satisfy the increasing needs of their workforce and regain productivity and many found it in the form of the Human Relations Approach (Wilson 1990). The Human Relations Approach represents a significant departure from the automated and dehumanized approach of Scientific Management. Where Scientific Management concentrates on technique and output, the Human Relations Approach focuses on the individual and organisational change through human interactions (Baldridge 1972). It challenges the concept of managers think and workers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
