Soldiers Alone Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1: The beginning of the story starts when a Private from the Union named Henry,
overhears a conversation between two soldiers, one of them named Jim. Henry overhears Jim s
conversation with another soldier that they will be going into the war the next day. Reluctantly,
the people that Jim was talking to gathered up and started planning out their own action in war.
However, another soldier accuses Jim of lying, because he explains that they did not even move
in the last two weeks. Henry on the other hand, believes what Jim says and is surprised that he is
going to war the next day, because he had explained to the readers that he dreamed of going to
battle for a long time, and now it is true. He then has a flashback of when he told his... Show more

Henry felt unhappy that the tale was false and now was more concerned about himself and it
leads him to be depressed because he had done nothing for the last few months when waiting to
go to war. He comes to the point that he feels like he cannot do anything at all, and can t be the
hero he wants to be. He also comes to the point that he finds out that math and science cannot
help him in everything, such as determining if he is a coward or not. Having noticed that he
cannot determine on math and science to help him find out if he is a coward or not, he decides
to go find an opportunity to help him prove if he is a coward or not. Trying to find an
opportunity, he tried to measure himself to the other soldiers of his camp and tried to understand
what the other soldiers was thinking about. He explains that he also afraid to show the other
soldiers his concern about the war. He then thinks about two theories about his own camp as a
whole. His first theory is that he believes that all the soldiers in his camps are heroes. However, at
some times, he ignored the positive theories he had about them and saw them instead as a
wandered someone who is afraid to do something. His emotions about them made him feel strange,
especially about the people who talk about the excitement of the battle that is going to occur right in

Supply And Demand of Gasoline Essay
Supply and Demand: Gasoline
I am a husband and a father of four lovely children. We need a large vehicle to haul all of us
around town. And of course I would do anything to keep them safe and I always want to provide
them with the best. Therefore, after the birth of our fourth child two and a half years ago, my
wife and I decided to upgrade our Ford Explorer to a Ford Expedition. We got everything from
the side curtain airbags to the TV and DVD player. What we did not know was we also
purchased a rather large unleaded gas bill. The first time we filled the tank it cost us roughly $35;
today it costs us right around $75 to fill the tank. Obviously the price of gas has increased
significantly in the last two years. The price ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Norway is the third largest exporter of crude oil. Three separate strikes over a five month period
severely influenced production. The supply of gasoline to various regions of the United States also
plays a significant role. The country is divided into five different regions: Gulf Coast, East
Coast, Midwest, Rocky Mountain, and West Coast. Some of these areas do not have enough
refineries in their own region to support the consumption and therefore need it brought in. For
example, the West Coast has very limited pipeline connections from the other regions. It must
rely on water shipments and its small amount of refiners for its supply. If something should
happen to the water shipments, i.e. a hurricane, tsunami, etc. it would greatly effect the supply
of gasoline. The demand of gasoline has increased steadily over the last twenty years. In 1981
the U.S. averaged 6.5 million barrels of gasoline consumption per day. By comparison, in 2004
the U.S. averaged 9.2 million barrels of gasoline consumption per day. For most of this time
period, gas prices stayed relatively the same. This is because the U.S. refineries increased their
production to meet the demand and maintain the equilibrium price. Also during this same time
period worldwide demand for crude oil increased 27%. Crude oil producers also increased their
production to meet the demand keeping prices the same. The price of gasoline is affected by many

Nicole Brown Simpson Research Paper
At 12:10 a.m. on June 13, 1994, the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were
found by Los Angeles Police brutally murdered. Steven Schwab, a neighbor of Nicole, was out with
his dog late at night going for a walk. While they were walking, Schwab came across a dog with
blood on its paws. The dogfollowed Schwab back to his house, neighbors of Schwab Sukru
Boztepe and Bettina Rasmussen offered to keep the dog overnight. The dog, named Kato was
barking and running around all night. The couple decided to let the dog out and see what he was
so wound up about. Kato led the couple to Nicole s house where they found Nicole and her
boyfriend, Ron, dead.
Soon after the bodies were found, the police started looking for OJ Simpson, father of Nicole s
children and former husband to Nicole. Around 11 p.m., a limousine driver named Allan Park,
was buzzing Simpsons intercom trying to get ahold of him so he could take Simpson to LAX for
a flight he would soon be late for. Simpson eventually comes out and tells Park that he overslept.
Park drops him off at LAX and Simpson gets on a flight to Chicago. Back to the murder scene,
detectives Mark Furman and Philip Vannatter are investigating around the house/neighborhood....

Kato tells them that he is in Chicago and that they should go talk to OJ s daughter, Arnelle
Simpson. Arnelle takes the police to the main house, where OJ lives and opens the door for them.

Global Warming And Its Effects Essay
Global warming is directly causing the rise in temperature of the Earth. The melting of the polar
ice caps causes some of the most pressing issues including the endangerment of species indigenous
to this region and the rise of ocean levels.
Global Warming
Global warming is the steady rise of temperature of the Earth s surface. What exactly causes global
warming? Numerous sources fuel global warming, such as deforestation, permafrost, and even
sunspots. Obviously, many factors contribute to this cause, but something called the greenhouse
effect is believed to be the leading component. The sun s rays pass through our atmosphere and
warm the surface of the Earth, and then the heat from these rays reflect back towards space. A
majority of the radiating heat is absorbed by the greenhouse gases, hence the term greenhouse
effect, and projected in a random direction thus heating the Earth s surface even more. The
temperature of our planet is gradually rising because of the burning of fossil fuels which releases
carbon dioxide gas into the air.
(1) (US Environmental Protection Agency. Global Emissions by Gas.)
The graph proves that our recent dependency on fossil fuels is releasing massive amounts of
carbon dioxide into the air. Over the last century, the growth of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
has resulted in (2) increased concentrations of greenhouse gases. As the emission of carbon dioxide
into the air continues, more and more heat will be trapped resulting in the

The first work is the center panel of the Merode Altarpiece by Robert Campin in 1425. It is titled
The Annunciation and is a Flemish painting. The second work is a fresco by Fra Angelico entitled
Annunciation. It was made in 1440 in Florence, Italy. The Merode Altarpiece is considered early
fifteenth century Flemish art while Annunciation is considered Early Renaissance art. The subject of

This work would have been located in a private Flemish home for private worship but it now located
in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Annunciation is significant to history because
it demonstrated the shift of public worship at a church to private worship in the home. This shift
would eventually lead to the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
Annunciation, the fresco, clearly demonstrates the focus on religion in the 15th century. The
fresco is part of numerous frescos that were commissioned by the abbot of the Dominican
monastery of San Marco. The purpose of the fresco was to give religious reminders and instill
piety into the monks who were dedicating their lives to prayer. There is even an inscription at
the bottom of the work that reminds the monks to say a Hail Mary when they pass the work. Fra
Angelico was greatly influenced by two Gothic artists Gentile da Fabriano and Masaccio. The
influence of Fabriano is evident in the drapery and detail of Gabriel s wings which give a
decorative style to the fresco. The influence of Masaccio can be seen in the use of realistic depth.
The work also uses linear perspective which can be seen in the line between garden and the
architecture. However, the lighting and the proportions of the figures within the architecture are
irrational. It could be said that these artistic mistakes were

Irish Literature And Rebellion Essay
Irish Literature and Rebellion
In the heart of every Irishman hides a poet, burning with nationalistic passion for his beloved
Emerald Isle. It is this same passion, which for centuries, Great Britain has attempted to snuff out
of the Catholics of Ireland with tyrannical policies and the hegemony of the Protestant religion.
Catholics were treated like second class citizens in their native home. Centuries of oppression
churned in the hearts of the Irish and came to a boil in the writings and literature of the sons and
daughters of Ireland. The Literary Renaissance of Ireland produced some of the greatest writers the
world has seen. John O Leary said it best, literature must be national and nationalism must ... Show

However, he was troubled at the thought that his pen could be the cause of war. Although he was
politically active, his focus was more on the cultural and literary realms than on a violent rebellion
At the end of his life he was still wondering if his early writing had helped to seed the rising, to

responsible for the death of his friends and others family. He is disappointed that his ink could be
the reason for bloodshed.
The rising that Yeats is talking about is the Easter Risingof 1916. On April 24, 1916, a group of

James Connolly s Ctizen Army, posted the Declaration of the Republic on the door of the General

Earnest Elmo Calkins The Business Of Advertising
The look of the standard advertisement changed in the 1900s with the addition of four color front

agencies like Calkins Holden, founded by Earnest Elmo Calkins as the first agency to provide

What Are The Strategic Competencies Of The Hospitality...
There are different strategies that must be considered by the organisations operating in hospitality
industry. The contributions made by the firm donate towards the performance and achievement of
the company. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the strategies of the hotel, which serves as
the basis of success. This paper is divided into five different tasks each of which is focusing on
various aspects of the hotels performance. The organisation that is selected in order to answer the
tasks is InterContinentalHotelGroup. Different models and strategies are used for analysing external
environment, core capabilities, culture, and strategic choices of the firm.
Task 1: Strategic Trajectories and Competencies of Hotel
InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) is among the largest hotels of the world and contain large of
number of rooms in comparison to other hotels. IHG has transformed itself from a small hotel to

Moreover, the tax regulations, personnel laws, ecological regulations, and industry particular
regulation can be changed relying upon the country current economic situation. For example, the
process of elections in different countries plays a basic part in the globalisation of hospitality
market. Eventually, the conceivable changes of regulations and laws can either advantage or
represent a detriment for the tourism organisations that are operating internationally. However,
another political issue is visa limitations for the reason that in UK and the US, the migration has
executed more strict regulations making it harder for outsiders to acquire a traveller visa.
Particularly after the 9/11 terrorist assault, the US has turned out to be more stringent on the

Essay on Elizabeth s Strength of Character in Pride and...
Elizabeth s Strength of Character in Pride and Prejudice
In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen used the character of Elizabeth Bennet to epitomize
the harmonious balance between reason and emotion in a woman, making her a truly admirable and
attractive character.
Elizabeth s strength of character is emphasized by its contrast with the weak, naive acceptance of
Jane s, the instability and excess of Mrs. Bennet s and the blind, weak willed following of Kitty s.
Her strength is also shown in her rejections of the proposals of Mr. Collins and Darcy. Unlike her
mother, she does not base her choice of lovers on the financial security they will give her, and has
the strength to reject them. This is especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth also expresses her rebellion against society by taking little trouble to become
accomplished, as young ladies were expected to then. She devotes little time to becoming skilled at
playing the piano, and has not learnt drawing at all.
Elizabeth s intelligence reveals her to be one of the few reasoning characters of the novel, a
sensible individual in a society largely composed of fools. In this way, this attribute was less a
product of the civilization of her immediate society than of the civilization of the Enlightenment
that emphasized the importance of reason in life and served to educate Elizabeth. As the
daughter of Mr. Bennet, her view of society is a cynical, ironic one, heightened by the presence
of brainless family members and neighbors. It is her sense of irony that enables her to survive in
such a society, as she enjoys the humor of the ridiculous pomposity of Mr. Collins as her father
does. [I disagree with the introduction here. A sense of irony gives Mr. Bennet the ability to
survive a disastrous marriage, but Elizabeth does not share such emotional detachment she is
engagГ© .] However, she does not employ as insulting a tone as her father does, but chooses to
define it as impertinence . After Darcy s proposal is accepted, Darcy tells her that one of the
reasons why he fell in love with her was the liveliness of your mind , showing that her intelligence
adds to her charms as she uses it in the form of [gd.] wit rather

Leadership Is A Key Factor Essay
Leadership means the ability of a superior to influence the behaviour of subordinates and
persuade them to follow a particular course of action (Barnard, 1938)Effective leadership is a
key factor in the life and success of an organisation. There are many theories of leadership have
been proposed like Great man theory, trait theory , The managerial grid and Theory X and Theory
Y as it s a part of behaviour theory and Participative theory. There are many traits and skill of
person which makes normal person to leader. There are honesty, passion, respect, clarity, emotional
stability etc. From them we just now concentrate on these five qualities. There are,
1.Vision
Vision is more important than your leadership skill as without this skill team cannot go anywhere
like this skill is a heart of leadership (Small Business, 2012). Vision can have power in that leader
can see the future state in present and built a road to arrive at stated future goal (Kohut,
2013).With clear vision leader can make plan to get involved in the activity to achieve the goal in
defined time. There is confidence in each action which has vision in behind (Richter). Finally it is
like how organisation looks like after some time or may be at which stage it will be in near future
(Richter). It provides the execution idea and also motivation.
2.Tolerant to stress
Each person has optimal level of stress that they actually enjoy. It makes work exiting and
engaging. But when we pass that level, stress becomes

Effects Of Slavery On African American Slavery
Through out this chapter we discover that the Europeans tend to take things that do not belong to
them and also like to take credit for numerous things as well. We also learn that they like to
kidnap others to do their hard labor while that stand back and making a living off of others hard
labor. During this process I do believe it was the start of slaveryfor the African Americans. For the
Europeans it meant the freedom to treat people any kind of way rather than treating someone like
another human being.
The Europeans have always been seen as the start of everything yet and still we have to remember
that everything they claimed, majority of the time was created by some one of another nationality.

Shark Bay Stromatolites
Module Focus: Life On Earth
FOCUS QUESTIONS:
1.How does an understanding of the Shark Bay stromatolites provide paleontological evidence that
suggest when life originated on Earth?
Glossary
Stromatolites simple bacteria existed in structures called stromatolites which were very similar to
present day living stromatolites. These organisms live in shallow marine environments.
Stromatolites are formed through the activity of primitive unicellular organisms (cyanobacteria/blue
green algae and other algae).
These grow through sediment and sand, binding the sedimentary particles together, resulting in
successive layers and over a long period, these harden to form rock. Stromatolites were the main
reef building organisms constructing large masses of calcium carbonate for at least Вѕ of the Earth
s history.

Stromatolites are still produced by microbes today. These modern stromatolites are remarkably
similar to the ancient stromatolites which provide evidence of some of the earliest life on Earth.
Modern and ancient stromatolites have similar shapes and, when seen in cross section, both show
the same fine layering produced by thin bacterial sheets. Microfossils of ancient cyanobacteria can
sometimes be identified within these layers.
Palaeontology the scientific study of fossils and all aspects of extinct life determining the structure
and evolution of extinct animals, plants, the age and conditions of deposition of the rocks in which
they are found.
Palaeontologists use the fossil evidence from different rock layers to discover that the more
primitive marine organisms and cells are found in the lower layers of the rock compared to the
land dwelling and more complex organisms.

The Provider And Patient Attributes
Provider and Patient Attributes
We collected a set of attributes for providers and patients from the EDW. For providers, we
extracted employee ID, employee role, and a physician index (a Boolean value; 1 if provider is a
type of physician, 0 if not). For patients, we extracted age, encounter type (all inpatient in this data
set), admission and discharge times, primary diagnosis, discharge location, length of stay, med
service (department to which the patient was admitted), discharge disposition (where the patient
was discharged to), and an index noting whether or not the patient had expired.
Network Visualization
We created two types of networks in this study. The first is a directed bipartite network and
represents interactions between providers and patient records (Figure 2). The second network is
undirected and depicts shared patient record access between providers (Figure 3). Visualization for
both networks was performed using Gephi. [59] Further description of these networks follows.
Provider patient Network
EDW data indicating provider access to a patients EHR was depicted as a directed bipartite graph

nurse, pharmacist, etc. The target node designates a patient with a diagnosis of heart failure who
was admitted to NMH in 2012. An edge between them is an indication that the provider has

Essay about History of Home Schooling
History of Home Schooling
Before public schools emerged, children were educated in the home by their parents. They were
taught arithmetic, practical skills, and to read and write. Some wealthy families preferred hiring a
tutor for their children (Koetzsch, 1997). In the 1840s, prominent leaders such as Horace Mann lead
a movement to institute public schools in the United States (Thattai, 2001). These reformers argued
that public schools would create good citizens, unite society, and prevent crime and poverty. As a
result of their efforts, public elementary schools evolved in American society by the end of the 19th
century. Massachusetts was the first state to pass a compulsory attendance law, ruling that all
children had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many parents followed Holt in his ideas about education and still home school their children based
on Holt s philosophy (Koetzsch, 1997).
The Christian home school movement began in the United States during the 1980 s. Conservative
Christian families believe in a literal translation of the bible and generally have conservative social
views. Public schools and American society are a threat to their beliefs and values. Conservative
Christians believe that public schools are anti religious, dominated by materialism, plagued by
violence, full of sexual promiscuity, and plagued by drug use. Approximately 80 percent of home
schooled children are Conservative Christians (Koetzsch, 1997). By the late 1980 s, many parents
were turning to home schooling as an alternate form of education. By 1998, all fifty states had laws
allowing home schooling (Koetzsch, 1997).
Advantages and Disadvantages to Home Schooling
There are many reasons why parents decide to home school their children. Home schoolers can be
divided into two main groups, ideologues and pedagogues. Ideologues home school their children
for religious purposes. Pedagogues home school because they believe they can teach their children
better than public or private institutions (Thomas, 1998). Parents decide to home school due to
religious reasons because parents have

Objective:
We will determine the acceleration of the weights of an Atwood s Machine, both experimentally
and theoretically. We will attempt to verify Newton s Second law which is a mathematical
statement relating force, mass, and acceleration. Newton s Second law states that acceleration, a, is
directly related to net force, F, and inversely related to mass, m. Naturally this give F=ma. Using
the Atwood s Machine experimental acceleration data (for 10 different runs with 10 different
combinations of masses) will be gathered and compared to the theoretical acceleration which is
predicted by Newton s Second Law using a modified version of F=ma. The only two variables in

The inversely proportional relationship between total mass and acceleration is also shown in
our graph. I took the liberty of plotting the non constant mass by F vs. aexp. Which clearly
showed that with an increase in total mass resulted in a gradual decrease of the acceleration of
the system. There were several sources of error in our experiment. But none affected the ability
for a relationship between mass, acceleration, force to be drawn. The largest error was the one
mentioned above. But its source was the easiest to account for. We mis imputed the value of the
spoke length into DataStudio. Luckley this mistake was easily remedied due to the design of
the pulley. The electronic eye was recording a time that was exactly half of what it should have
been. This time data produced an acceleration that was exactly double what it should be.
Therefore this was issue was easily remedied by dividing the times by 2. Other sources of error
were due to the frictional forces in the pulley system, also the masses of the weights might not
have been perfect. Air resistance was a major player when the difference in masses was large,
therefore acceleration was high. The weights could have been verified to eliminate that error, and
more advanced physics could have been used to take into account the friction of the pulley and the
air resistance.

What Are The Variations In Regional Differences
Notably, although only some historians argue that regional differences significantly increased in
the United States during the 1800 s the remaining historians would be false to disagree. Variations
in regional differences include things such as industrialization, slavery, and the growth of the
United States (U.S) government between the years 1800 and 1848. Such economical, social, and
political factors influenced the increase in regional differences. During the year of 1803, the state
of Louisiana was purchased by the U.S. from France expanding the territory of the country by

The researchers examined five different states waiver programs for assisted living care. Those
states include: Arkansas, New Jersey, Oregon, Texas, and Washington. They compared eligibility to
qualify Medicaid programs like the Elderly Waiver, between the states. The main form of
qualification for Medicaid programs is Social Security. According to Carlson, Coffey, Fecondo,
and Newcomer (2010), the income limit to be eligible for Social Security in 2008 was $637 a
month, and assets could not exceed $2,000. Another main point of the article, Medicaid Funding

similar between the five states studied. This creates a process that is easy to carry out for the
nurses and social workers working for these facilities. Carlson et. al (2010), state that one of these
requirements for all five states is that applicants must be unable to perform or need assistance with
the activities of daily living (ADL s). ADL s include: toileting, eating, transferring, bathing, dressing,
etc. Other requirements that differ from state to state include: showing signs of dementia, showing

Designing A Design A Structure And Present It
The very first architect can be traced all the way back to the 27th century BC in ancient Egypt.
His name was Imhotep, who designed and planned the Pyramid of Djoser and is said to be
responsible for being the first to use columns in architecture (McRae). An architect can be described
as some who designs, plans, and perhaps even constructs buildings. Within the broad definition, the
job of an architects spreads throughout the spectrum. Architects do much more than simply design
a structure and present it to a client. An architect must carry a variety of characteristics and
knowledge that can vary from project to project. Architects find themselves having to study a series
of subjects such as psychology, real estate, to even politics that contribute to their careers. Overall,
an architect has to an extent three basic sets of skills: math, drawing, and creative thinking.
Architects use these three skills in order to succeed in their field.
Although these three skills are necessary, many architects are not masters at these skills; many
more are afraid of having to know complex mathematics. Architect students will need the necessary
skills of math, drawing, and creative thinking in order to become successful architects. The rumors
that an architect has to be a mastermind in math is essentially false. Many architects agree that
math used daily is simple trigonometry to even easier addition, subtractions and division. While it is
no lie that math is used in architecture, it

Homeostasis And Euphoria
First off, in animals or humans after using a drug for a while they develop what is known as
tolerance. Tolerance means that more and more of the drug is needed to produce that euphoric
feeling that they felt on the first time using the drug. Tolerance develops because of various cues
in the environment as they are taking the drugs. The body tries to compensate for the effect of the
drugs by doing the opposite. Let us say for instance this drug raises your heart rate, so initially
your heart rate will be raised but than your body who likes to be in homeostasis will counteract the
drugs effect by lowing your heart rate. The environmental cues are the CS that ensure that your
body quickly achieves homeostasis and hence your euphoria is brief,

The Island Of Dr Moreau Monster Essay
One would picture what a monster looks like in one s mind one would think an intimidating
creature with a large stature and a misconfigured face. On the other hand, when one pictures a
doctor and what they do would not be skingraphing animal and human features on to one another.
One would think of a doctor of any kind of someone that treats unwanted medical conditions.
However, in the novel, The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells, Dr. Moreau fits the description of
monster perfectly from what he is creating, his intentions, and his attitude on the island.
The product of Moreau s are referred to as monsters but the creator of the monsters is the true
monster to me. Dr. Moreau explained to Pendrick what he does and Pendrick was freaked out at
first and asked adequate questions for the circumstances he was in. The more the wild detail

Haimabati s persona in the narrative reveals two contradictory aspects of her position and

pursuing at great risk her ambition to get educated and become self sufficient. During her

Later in the narrative, he shows the true colours of his male ego, abusing Haimabati for nothing,
beating her at times, and jeopardising her professional life. At one point he got involved in a
brawl with Haimabati s superior at her workplace, and it was she who saved him from a legal
action, by apologising for his conduct. He knew that he would never be able to earn himself, yet
it was no longer bearable to his male ego to live on his wife s income. Haimabati does not use
any harsh word to describe these feats of her husband, but her sense of irritation is not always
hidden, though she tried to wear a stoical calm and accept everything as God s will. Her willing
compromise with her husband s abuses shows how internalised patriarchy could be: being
otherwise so self sufficient she kept herself subservient to the man who, she believed, showed the
generosity of remarrying her and providing her with a respectable status in society. These
contradictions and complexities in Haimabati s life, which Indrani Sen has also noticed (60) point
towards an intriguing paradox in feminist history. Her struggle for identity, extraordinary despite all
these contradictions, shaped her personality in two ways: by resisting patriarchy and by
compromising with it.

The Island (1973) Athol Fugard
A Quick Rundown of The Island
The Island is a Fugard play that resorts to the Classics to protest Apartheid.
It takes place in four scenes, opening with a lengthy mimed sequence in which John and Winston,
two cell mates in prison on Robben Island, carry out one of the totally pointless and exhausting
tasks designed by warders to break the spirit of political prisoners.
Winston has been sentenced to prison for life because he burned his passbook in front of a police
station.
John has been imprisoned for belonging to a banned organization.

of the reasons for the increase in health care spending are the fast growth of private insurance,

Analysis Of Interior Of The Pantheon, Roman By Giovanni...
Interior of the Pantheon, Rome (1734) is a remarkable painting by Giovanni Paolo Panini who is
best known for his prospects on Rome in which he focussed on the city s famous sites. His works
largely have a fancy and unreal adornment feature of capriccio themes. The Pantheon is a former
Roman temple which is now a church in Rome. It is one of the best preserved Ancient Roman
Buildings which is also popular for the geometric wonder that it is. It demonstrates the theory of
2:3 correlation between the volume of a cylinder and a sphere. The Pantheon being one of the main
tourist attractions in Rome, Panini s depiction of this architectural model is populated with a lively
mix of Romans and other foreign visitors who are visiting the Pantheon to admire the marvellous
architecture, chat, and to pray. Panini being a trained expert in theatrical design and architecture
has provided a larger view of the interiors of Pantheon than what is possible in real from a single
point. The viewpoint is intense while it faces the entrance. Panini s attempt to show the bright blue
sky through the oculus in the centre of the dome just adds to the magnificence of the painting. The
psychic line towards the sunlight creates a soft feeling that is not too harsh on eyes but directs the
vision to the right point. The ground is a terracotta coloured layer that is reddish and contains
several translucent white pigments to provide a certain depth. The lines were incised using

Booker T Washington In Ragtime
Ragtime is a novel that examines America as it experiences drastic changes to its culture and its
contemporary systems and values. New movements were constantly shifting viewpoints and
redefining different groups and customs of society. The author, E.L. Doctorow, incorporates
countless historical events, people, and ideas that took place within the time period. Readers are
given multiple perspectives of occurrences and challenged to develop their own understanding of
them. One technique Doctorow utilizes throughout the novel is historical metafiction; this is the

Coalhouse, seeking revenge asked for two things: the life of Fire Chief Willie Conklin and the
restoration of his car to its original condition. To gain the attention he needed, he took J.P. Morgan s
library under hostage and then made his demands. To attempt to diffuse the situation, Booker T.
Washington, a notorious Civil Rights activist, was sent into the Morgan Library to persuade
Coalhouse to take a nonviolent route out. By creating an interaction between the fictional character
of Coalhouse Walker and the factual character of Booker T. Washington, Doctorow provides a
contrast between the two most prominent types of activism during the Civil Rights Movement.
Washington immediately goes on a rant, condemning Coalhouse for falling to the violent means
of action. His speech has a self centered tone as he even asks Coalhouse, What will your
misguided criminal recklessness cost me! to which he calmly responds, It is a great honor for me
to meet you, sir... I have always stood in admiration for you (Doctorow 281, 282). There is great
irony in this interaction; for the man who is viewed as a peaceful activist vocally scolds the other,
known as a violent avenger, who then responds in a soft tone with kindness and respect. Through
this scene, Doctorow provides insight into the personality of Booker T. Washington. During their
conversation, Coalhouse makes a change to his demands, no longer requesting the life of Conklin;
however, Washington is so caught up with his failure of persuasion, he is completely oblivious to
this important detail (Doctorow 283). By only being invested in the situation for his own pride, the
issue remains unresolved. He is consumed by his selfish thoughts about his opinion being

options that we might have. I am going to layout the pros and cons for: heavy users, all energy
drink users and the adult segment, as shown below in the appendices as figure 1 1. Single serve
energy beverage drink retail prices have generally settled at roughly $2.00 per single serve
package, regardless of size. As a consequence, larger single serve packages are priced lower on a
per ounce basis than smaller packages. Shown in figure 1 2, it shows that our drink Rush NRG

ounce size, representing about 50 percent of case sales in convenience stores, has posted the
fastest growth. Multi packs represent a small portion of case sales and typically are marketed
through supermarkets and mass merchandisers. When coming to choose what version you want
to make, it is obvious that regular energy beverages have an 80 percent share of the market;
sugar free has 20 percent. Deciding what type of distribution to use between off premise and on

CHANGE, TRANSITION, AND LOSS FILM REVIEW 2
Summary
The Notebook (2004), is a deeply powerful and moving film about the undying love between a man
and woman through the telling of their story of love and loss. Duke, a resident in a nursing
home reads to a fellow resident, an old woman with Alzheimer s, the love story of Allie Hamilton
and Noah Calhoun. Viewers later learn that the woman with Alzheimer s is Allie and that Duke is
Noah. Prior to the advancement of her illness, Allie had written their love story in a notebook and
told Noah to read it to her so that she would keep coming back to him . Through the sharing of
their personal experiences of love and grief along with the experiences of other characters, viewers
are able to critically reflect on their own life experiences of love and loss and the different ways in
which these experiences have allowed change, growth, and transition in one s life.
Losses/Types of Losses Presented
One of the major types of losses presented in the film, The Notebook (2004) is that of ambiguous

Comparison Of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
During the second Red Scare in the late 1940 s and early 1950 s, American s were fearful that
communism would permeate throughout their country and eventually rule their governments and
entire lives. When Invasion of the Body Snatchers was directed by Don Siegal in 1956, he wanted
to produce a film that creatively captured the fear of McCarthyism. The movie was inspired by the
novel written by Jack Finneyin 1954, which also aimed to depict what fears society had in the 50s.
The film was recreated three more times, each with an original spin on the first movie and novel,
but still effectively capturing the attention of the audience. The primary hope was of increasing
awareness over the fear of Communism and losing one s personal autonomy to Communism while
each adaptation reflects the struggles and mindset during the time period that it was set in. Each of
these films and novel, despite their numerous differences, reflect the period that they were created
in through themes of losing one s individuality, gender roles, and paranoia. The novel that inspired
the production of Invasion of the Body Snatcherswas written in 1954 by Jack Finney titled The
Body Snatchers. Finney used this novel to convey the fact that individuality is beneficial to
humanity because if everyone is the same then there is a universal loss of identity (Sloan 183).

Summary Of Hiroshima John Hersey

Addison s disease
Addison s disease is a rare disorder that occurs when the adrenal glands do not produce enough
hormones. It occurs in all age groups and affects all genders equally. This disorder is characterized
by weight loss, muscle weakness, fatigue, and low blood pressure and oftentimes darkening of the
skin in both exposed and unexposed parts of the body.
Thomas Addison first described the clinical presentation of primary adrenocortical insufficiency
(Addison s Disease) in 1855 in his classic paper, On the Constitutional and Local Effects of
Diseases of the Supra Renal Capsules.

My claims could be supported by the title of this piece, Franchise. But not this man? Columbia is
depicted as the representation of the freed blacks, asking about their rights as citizens. In this
depiction of Columbia by Nast in which he opted in drawing her with her sword, unlike the
accompanying cartoon that comes with this cartoon. In the accompanying cartoon, Pardon by
Nast, Columbia is depicted sitting with one arm crossed, next to the hilt of her sword, and her
other hand is propped against her cheek and face, which holds a more than annoyed expression
on her face. In Pardon Columbia faces a kneeling mass of ex confederate men asking for pardon,
that party is led by Robert E. Lee. Columbia s sword is pointed towards the man as a symbol of
distrust from the nation towards ex confederate generals. From this depiction it can be inferred that
the people believed they could not trust those that left the United States. By placing these two
cartoons adjacent to each other one could infer that Nast and some portion of those viewing this
newspaper thought that freed slaves should be able to vote and those in the ex confederacy have
their rights to vote revoked. Many Radical Republicans, including Thaddeus Stevens, encouraged
Congress to protect not only the voting rights of blacks but also the protection of the black
economics, political and social rights (Harrold

The Spanish American War And The Civil War
1.The Spanish American War was fought in 1898. It was a very short war and had very little deaths
compared to the previous wars and battles. The Spanish American War only lasted one hundred and
thirteen days. Even though the Spanish American war was a short war, it had many of very useful
world changing outcomes. The conflict began when the Cubans wanted independence from Spain.
Spain would not give Cubans their independence. The Cubans go tired of begging so eventually, the
United Statesgot involved, and it was an all out war against Spain. Toward the end of the
nineteenth century, tensions were high between Spain and Cuba. Jose Marti wanted
independence from Spain and the only way they believed they could do it was by declaring war
in 1895. Many of Americans supported the Cubans who were struggling for freedom because lots
of Americans were or still are in their shoes or knew who it felt to not have freedom. The
newspaper journalists played a huge part at the beginning of the Spanish American War as well as
during the war. The journalists published various articles talking bad about the Spanish government
and published exaggerated stories of how the government was treating their citizens in Spain. One
publisher wrote a letter to the ambassador in Spain expressing how he felt about him. He said that
the ambassador was a weak leader, and he did not know anything about politics. The letter started up
Americans aggressive nationalism. Not too long after that incident, an

Mercy Core Value Analysis
As I sit down to write my final reflection, I think about the Mercy Core Values here at Georgian
Court University and what I have gained during this course. I would like to think that I have
been taught the value of respect and integrity during my up bring from my parents, family,
teachers and co workers and the teachings here at GCU have given me a better outlook and
understanding on how important respect and integrity are in the world we live in. To me
respect is to have an understanding in ones beliefs even if you don t agree, basically not judging
someone on their personal beliefs or actions. Having an understanding as to why they do or say
is respect. My understanding of integrity is to be you , be honest and standup for your actions
and your beliefs. Do the right thing opposed to the wrong thing. As a person everyone has a
level of respect and/or integrity. It s a matter of whether the person truly knows the meaning of it
and uses them in the right way. During this course, I have read a lot of interesting readings, the
ones that standout the most to me are Fredrick Douglass, Malala Yousafzai, and Sister Cathrine
McAuley. They are all fine examples of people I have learn more about respect and integrity for
after reading their stories. There stories show how important the Mercy Core Values are here at
Georgian Court University. I believe anyone who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

On Law of Mining and Land Use
Topic Manohar Lal Sharma v Union of India A Watershed in ascertaining Propriety, Loss and
Liability.
During the Winter Semester 2014/15
Introduction
Manohar Lal Sharma v Union of India marks a distinct point in Indian jurisprudence as the Supreme
Court takes on and demolishes a number of theories under the traditionally untouchable domain of
executive discretion. It reiterated that all executive functioning must derive legitimacy from statute
and in exercise of such functioning, strict adherence to propriety and transparency are a must.
In this context, the author undertakes to analyze the case in detail and ... Show more content on

However, Entry 23 is subject to Entry 54 of List 1 in terms of which Central Government is
empowered to legislate in respect of mines and minerals. Generally, when both centre and states are
competent to legislate on a matter, the central legislation wins over the states in case of a conflict.
Section 4 of Mines Minerals Act provides that all mining operations shall be under a licence.
Under the Mineral Concession Rules of 1960, ( Rules ), framed in exercise of powers under
Section 13 of the Mines Minerals Act, an applicant would first make an application to the relevant
State Government. Thereafter, the applicant is required to submit the plan to the Central
Government and once approved by Central Government, the applicant was entitled to licence from
the State Government. The Mines Minerals Act and the Rules provide for the grant of licence for
operating in respect of mines and minerals stated under the Mines Minerals Act.
1973, coal mining was nationalised in order to better coordinate the activity and also ensure
scientific development of the area. Section 5(1) of the Coal Mines Act empowers Central
Government, through an order in writing, to vest the right, title and interest of an owner in relation
to a coal mine a Government company. Section 1A, added vide an amendment, allowed the Union

Stereotypes In Jerry Spinelli s Stargirl
Jerry Spinelli s book, Stargirl, is a fiction book that tells a story of a young student named Leo.
Leo attends Mica High school along his best friend Kevin and the other Mica High students. The
school is a completely average school with cliques and social expectations. That is until Mica High
is flipped upside down when the ukulele playing new girl walks in. Stargirlsteals the attention of
every Mica student as she dances down the halls, runs across football fields, and sings happy
birthday to every student every day without a care. Her oblivious attitude blinds her from seeing
how the school only cheers for her because they think she s a joke; some students claim she was
placed in the school as an actor to pump school spirit, others believe she s out of this world, and...

Identification And Identification Of Fingerprint Scanners
Our idea
Fingerprint scanners have been used in movies such as action and various other types for years, but
until recent times, they were unheard of technology in the real world. In the past few years,
however, scanners have been introduced into almost the whole society for example in police
stations, high security buildings and even on PC keyboards.
Fingerprints are a unique identification of all individuals, even identical twins whose two prints
may look exactly the same, a fingerprint scanner can find the differences between certain finger
prints.

Introducing finger print scanning instead of credit cards replace using credit cards with finger
print scanners at all ATM machines and banks, this would be much safer because there is no risk
in anyone taking card details and pins therefore reduces the risk of fraud and will save banks a lot
of money from having to pay back to those who have been affected from fraud. Year by year card
fraud and database hacking is increasing. The main reason being the outdated method of using a
card and PIN. Therefore to counteract the information being stolen so easily, this project introduces
the idea of integrating Fingerprint Technology into the Banking system. This can be achieved by
each bank having its own encryption algorithms for fingerprints unique to its customers and
thereafter update ATM machines with attaching fingerprint scanners to them.
Fingerprint scanning has recently been introduced into technology, for example iPhone now have a
fingerprint detector to unlock the iPhone instead of using a pin, and this only gives the owner of
the phone authority to access the information within the phone. Also fingerprint scanning has been
used in fast food chains for example Chicago s fast food restaurant has an ordering system which
uses fingerprints to determine customer s orders. Governments use finger print scanning in many
ways one of which is for passport verification in airports. Research shows that more than half

Criticism Of Snow White
If the mirror is interpreted as the symbol of a husband, it might explain the literal absence of the
King in the story (Barzilai, 1990). It is possible that the Queen is fighting for the attention of her
husband. The growth of Snow White to become a more beautiful female than her mother means
the end of an era for the Queen. She is no longer a youthful lady, but a mother of a grown up
daughter. It is very common in patriarchal societies to view womanas mothers after a certain age.
Giving birth resonates with a distorted body image. Mothers carry the marks of birth giving and
breastfeeding on their bodies. They transform from a state of seductiveness to a mother. Their role
is reduced to a domestic caretaker for the children. It represents... Show more content on

When we apply this view to the story of Snow White, we can see how Queen is made to be an
evil female character. Before Snow White was born, the Queen did not have diabolic characteristics
in the text. She was a woman peacefully dreaming about having a beautiful daughter. She did not
gain the evil features attributed to her until after Snow White came to a certain age. At that point,
Snow White was declared as the new beauty by the mirror. In other words, patriarchal forces placed
her crown on her daughter. On the other hand, Gilbert and Gubar s view that the monster and the
angel might be in the same body, mean that the Queen and Snow White are one and the same
personality. It might be interpreted that the patriarchal system breaks them apart instead of letting
them live in harmony in the same house. When the whole breaks apart, one of them takes the
monstrous side and the other one takes the angelic side forming a binary

Punishment In Night By Elie Wiesel
Throughout the history of mankind, many genocides have occurred around the world because
there is much hatred among specific kinds of people. A genocide is the deliberate killing of a
large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. An example of a
genocide in Germany is the Holocaustwhere Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, showed the Jews
experience from the horrors, tortures, and killings in the death camps. At the same time, a mass
execution was happening in Nanjing, China, where the Japanese soldiers were slaughtering and
torturing thousands of the Chinese. Both the Jews from Night and the Chinese in the Nanking
Massacrehad suffered the elements of cruelty from execution methods and their torture such... Show

The Jews and Chinese suffered beatings from their oppressors while they were trying to recover
from their recent injuries. In the memoir, Night, Idek, a German Kapo, conducted the Jews
viciously, making almost any injuries very difficult to recover from. For example, Idek was
viciously beating Elie when they crossed paths. Idek lost his temper and caused himself to jump
on Elie. Idek violently beat Elie continuously until Elie was covered in blood. Even though Elie
tried not to howl in pain in the way of accepting his false, Idek mistook him and beat Elise harder
and harder (Wiesel 53). This was an example of cruelty because Elie was being beaten for just
being in Idek s path while Idek was venting his anger. Idek s actions showed cruelty because he
attacked Elie without stopping to let Elie recover even though, Elie was nearly dying from the
beating. Another example of beatings, was that in the Nanjing database of war, Alan Axelrod s The
Rape of Nanjing, the war crime database stated that Atrocities reported and (in many cases)
documented include a rampage through the Nanking Hospital, during which soldiers tore bandages
from the flesh of the wounded, smashed casts with clubs, and raped nurses (Axelrod). These actions
showed cruelty to the Chinese because the Chinese were being beaten from the brutality of the
Japanese, even though the Chinese were already suffering from their

The Silence Of The Lambs Analysis
The Silence of the Lambs directed by Jonathan Demme in 1991 is said to be the best Crime,
Drama, Thrillers.. all in one. The movie The Silence of the Lambs that won the Best Picture
Oscar for my year(1991) clearly adheres to and reflects the influence of Hero s Journey story
structure from Acts one, two, and three throughout the whole movie by using Call To Adventure,
Crossing the threshold, Tests, Enemies and Allies, Ordeal , and Return With The Elixir. The
main Character Clarice is assigned to work on a case where she must interview Dr. Lecter
(Hannibal the Cannibal ) who is known as one of the most frightening serial killers of all time to

The Approach to Inmost Cave is showing when Clarice reveals her past when she was orphaned
on a farm at a young age and was frightened by the slaughtering of the lambs and ran away. The
director added this because it reveals the title of the story The Silence of the Lambs relates to
her at a young age witnessing the Lambs being slaughtered and this allows for Clarice to choose
to silence her pain that haunts her. Leading into the Ordeal where Clarice accidentally ends up at
Buffalo Bill s House! Crawford sent her away from where they thought he was but ended up
being where Clarice went where Catherine Martin was being held by Buffalo Bill. She is forced
to chase Buffalo Bill into his lair where he then forces her to find her way through the dark while
he uses his night vision goggles to follow her. Before Buffalo Bill can hurt her, he is shot and
killed in the dark by Clarice. Clarice then reaches the Reward (Seizing The Sword) stage of act
two where she rescues Catherine Martin and the dog making her a hero all on her own and
finally respected by her other colleagues and superiors. Lastly act three after her great success we
run into The Road Back where Clarice is at the FBI academy for her graduation where she runs
into Jack Crawford who congratulates her on her case. Now she has proven herself worth in the
Bureau and did more than Crawford though she was capable of. Sooner

Essay On Federal Budget
The government needs to take more caution creating the federal budget. Edwards stated that
Consider Canada s experience. In the mid 1990s, the federal government faced a debt crisis
caused by overspending, which is similar to America s current situation. But the Canadian
government reversed course and slashed spending from 23 percent of GDP in 1993, to 17 percent
by 2000, to just 15 percent today. The Canadian economy did not sink into a recession from the
cuts as Keynesians would have expected but instead grew strongly during the 1990s and 2000s.
Since the early 1950 s Americans have had trouble controlling overspending. The United States
government has engaged in deficit spending. This occurs when spending exceeds the amount of

Growing spending and debt are undermining economic growth and may push the nation into a
financial crisis in coming years. Edward then stated that the solution to these problems is to
downsize every federal department by cutting the most harmful programs. This study proposes
specific cuts that would reduce federal spending by almost one quarter and balance the budget in
less than a decade.
In my opinion, I think he is right. If we reduce spending on Medicare, Medicaid, and social security
and look into the defense expenses and reduced some of the spendings in some of the programs
such as unnecessary equipment, submarines from the total spending of 4.4 trillion. These are the
programs that make up the largest percentage compared to the other programs such as education,
international aid, and foreign aid when the government cuts some of the programs mentioned
above, it will help balance the budget.
Cutting down individual taxes will generate more employment and will help generate more money,
it will create more tax revenue, according to Mike DeBones, from House Passes 2018 Budget,
Taking a Crucial Step toward Tax Overhaul. He states that Our budget specifically paves the way
for pro growth tax reform that will reduce taxes for middle class Americans and free up American
businesses to grow and hire, House Budget Committee Chairman Diane Black (R Tenn.) said
during floor debate Wednesday. I agree if the tax is

Shale Rocks
Shale is the most common sedimentary rock. It was deposited and formed by squeezing excess
formation water and mineralogical transformations at different temperatures and pressures.
Caprocks are essentially defined as low permeability formations, and sometimes, but not
necessarily, with low porosity. More than 60% of effective seals for geologic hydrocarbon bearing
formations as natural hydraulic barriers constitute of shalerocks. Shale rocks are predominantly
composed of clay such as kaolinite, montmorillonite and illite. They might also have other silica and
carbonate based minerals that contribute to their geomechanical strength. In 1965, D. Shaw and C.
Weaver documented the average mineralogical composition of shale from three hundred... Show

Caprock integrity failure can cause leakage and containment incidents. Currently, there are more
than 400 underground storage sites in the United States, including natural gas storage, oil and gas
waste disposal, industrial hazardous and non hazardous waste disposal, and municipal sanitation
waste disposal. So far, there are no documented cases of fully remediating a leak in a caprock in
either a natural gas storage or waste injection project. This makes preventing the leakage becomes
essential, because most of the time, leaks could have been avoided through proper and thorough
geologic characterization of the caprock [Bruno, et al, 2014]. The integrity of shale caprock relies
on the geomechanical properties of the rock, and it has effects on the quality and quantity of the gas
/hydrocarbons beneath and within it. Potential loss of caprock integrity is commonly due to tensile
fracturing, fault activation, and wellbore failure in the caprock. Understanding the microstructure
and mechanical properties of the shale caprocks helps to maintain its integrity, predict the potential
risk and prevent the failures from

Mark Reveal Jesus s Identity in the Gospel of Mark
In the Gospel of Mark, Mark discloses the life of Jesus and his embodiment of God s Kingdom.
Throughout his Gospel, Mark focuses on accurately revealing Jesus identity to his readers, and
explaining why Jesus was destined to die on the Cross. Mark uses his role as an arranger by
employing a diverse array of literary tactics to highlight the lessons of his narrative. One of the
most effective of these devices is intercalation the process of sandwiching one story between the
beginning and ending of a separate story. For most people, this tactic would at first appear as
impractical or senseless; however, through this process Mark is able to convey a deeper meaning
in the lessons he is hoping to share through the life of Jesus, and what it infers about the nature of
God s Kingdom. One of the most notable examples of intercalation in the Gospelof Mark is seen in
Mark 5:21 43: the story of the raising of Jairus twelve year old daughter and the woman who
suffered from hemorrhages. Through the intercalation of these two passages, Mark is able to
express that the boundaries of God s Kingdom expand beyond social status and wealth, and that
faith alone is all that is needed to be a part of His divine realm.
Understanding the significance of several details of Mark 5:21 43 is crucial before fully
understanding the significance of the passage itself. One of these details is location. Throughout
the Gospel of Mark, Jesus spends much of his time traveling to the other side that is,

The Transatlantic Trade And Investment Partnership
Introduction: During the EU Parliamentary elections of May 2014, the Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership (TTIP) came under much public scrutiny and has sparked a fierce debate on
the European Union competencies vis Г vis member states competencies and increased the Euro
skeptics critiques of a democratic deficit within the EU. Advocates of TTIP claim that this trade
deal, if signed, would bring enormous benefits to both shores of the Atlantic, that it is a debt free
economic stimulus to the stagnant European economy and it will set a golden standard for future
Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with third countries. Non governmental organizations (NGOs) and
consumer protection activists fear that such a deal would lower domestic health, safety and
environmental standards. Anti TTIP movements, united under the stop TTIP campaign throughout
Europe, have been using many evocative images such as American chlorine washed chicken,
hormone treated meat, and genetically modified food, to explain their opposition to a
comprehensive trade agreement between the EU and the United States. With this paper, I intend to
analyze the possible impact that a TTIP agreement could have for the Italian agricultural sector,
what is at stake for it and what could be the limits to a successful agreement. My thesis is that the
Italian agricultural sector would greatly benefit from an EU US trade agreement that would open
possibilities for economic growth without new burdens for

Analysis Of The Garden Of Earthly Delights
Art is all around us and whether we notice it or not we are always evaluating, deconstructing, and
deciding on if we like it or not. The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch is a triptych
done in the Renaissance period. A triptych is a painting or relief carving that has three different
panels and are hinged together side by side. I first came across this paintingin my art history class
in high school and from then on I loved it due to all the imagery, colors, and the overall meaning
that it had. Ever since then this artwork has left a big imprint and got me to think about art as
much more than a picture, but to look at it as a whole and analyze it. This painting always
seemed interesting and intriguing for a couple of reasons. There are many themes going on, the
colors are very monochrome but yet look vivid and life like, and it has a very deep meaning
with the themes of mortality, sin, and shows the end results for evil doings. The triptych has
three different panels and all three have their own story to tell. When the triptych is closed and
both left and right sections are shut you see the world in tones of gray or neutral colors. At the
uppermost left corner of the closed sections you can see a depiction of God looking down at the
world with an open book in his hands. The first one on the left tells the story of how God
introduced Adam to Eve. They are shown to be in a beautiful and surreal looking location which is
thought to be paradise. Adam, Eve, and God

  • 3. Supply And Demand of Gasoline Essay Supply and Demand: Gasoline I am a husband and a father of four lovely children. We need a large vehicle to haul all of us around town. And of course I would do anything to keep them safe and I always want to provide them with the best. Therefore, after the birth of our fourth child two and a half years ago, my wife and I decided to upgrade our Ford Explorer to a Ford Expedition. We got everything from the side curtain airbags to the TV and DVD player. What we did not know was we also purchased a rather large unleaded gas bill. The first time we filled the tank it cost us roughly $35; today it costs us right around $75 to fill the tank. Obviously the price of gas has increased significantly in the last two years. The price ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Norway is the third largest exporter of crude oil. Three separate strikes over a five month period severely influenced production. The supply of gasoline to various regions of the United States also plays a significant role. The country is divided into five different regions: Gulf Coast, East Coast, Midwest, Rocky Mountain, and West Coast. Some of these areas do not have enough refineries in their own region to support the consumption and therefore need it brought in. For example, the West Coast has very limited pipeline connections from the other regions. It must rely on water shipments and its small amount of refiners for its supply. If something should happen to the water shipments, i.e. a hurricane, tsunami, etc. it would greatly effect the supply of gasoline. The demand of gasoline has increased steadily over the last twenty years. In 1981 the U.S. averaged 6.5 million barrels of gasoline consumption per day. By comparison, in 2004 the U.S. averaged 9.2 million barrels of gasoline consumption per day. For most of this time period, gas prices stayed relatively the same. This is because the U.S. refineries increased their production to meet the demand and maintain the equilibrium price. Also during this same time period worldwide demand for crude oil increased 27%. Crude oil producers also increased their production to meet the demand keeping prices the same. The price of gasoline is affected by many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Global Warming And Its Effects Essay Global warming is directly causing the rise in temperature of the Earth. The melting of the polar ice caps causes some of the most pressing issues including the endangerment of species indigenous to this region and the rise of ocean levels. Global Warming Global warming is the steady rise of temperature of the Earth s surface. What exactly causes global warming? Numerous sources fuel global warming, such as deforestation, permafrost, and even sunspots. Obviously, many factors contribute to this cause, but something called the greenhouse effect is believed to be the leading component. The sun s rays pass through our atmosphere and warm the surface of the Earth, and then the heat from these rays reflect back towards space. A majority of the radiating heat is absorbed by the greenhouse gases, hence the term greenhouse effect, and projected in a random direction thus heating the Earth s surface even more. The temperature of our planet is gradually rising because of the burning of fossil fuels which releases carbon dioxide gas into the air. (1) (US Environmental Protection Agency. Global Emissions by Gas.) The graph proves that our recent dependency on fossil fuels is releasing massive amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. Over the last century, the growth of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has resulted in (2) increased concentrations of greenhouse gases. As the emission of carbon dioxide into the air continues, more and more heat will be trapped resulting in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This work would have been located in a private Flemish home for private worship but it now located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Annunciation is significant to history because it demonstrated the shift of public worship at a church to private worship in the home. This shift would eventually lead to the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. Annunciation, the fresco, clearly demonstrates the focus on religion in the 15th century. The fresco is part of numerous frescos that were commissioned by the abbot of the Dominican monastery of San Marco. The purpose of the fresco was to give religious reminders and instill piety into the monks who were dedicating their lives to prayer. There is even an inscription at the bottom of the work that reminds the monks to say a Hail Mary when they pass the work. Fra Angelico was greatly influenced by two Gothic artists Gentile da Fabriano and Masaccio. The influence of Fabriano is evident in the drapery and detail of Gabriel s wings which give a decorative style to the fresco. The influence of Masaccio can be seen in the use of realistic depth. The work also uses linear perspective which can be seen in the line between garden and the architecture. However, the lighting and the proportions of the figures within the architecture are irrational. It could be said that these artistic mistakes were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elizabeth s Strength of Character in Pride and Prejudice In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen used the character of Elizabeth Bennet to epitomize the harmonious balance between reason and emotion in a woman, making her a truly admirable and attractive character. Elizabeth s strength of character is emphasized by its contrast with the weak, naive acceptance of Jane s, the instability and excess of Mrs. Bennet s and the blind, weak willed following of Kitty s. She devotes little time to becoming skilled at playing the piano, and has not learnt drawing at all. Elizabeth s intelligence reveals her to be one of the few reasoning characters of the novel, a sensible individual in a society largely composed of fools. In this way, this attribute was less a product of the civilization of her immediate society than of the civilization of the Enlightenment that emphasized the importance of reason in life and served to educate Elizabeth. As the daughter of Mr. Bennet, her view of society is a cynical, ironic one, heightened by the presence of brainless family members and neighbors. It is her sense of irony that enables her to survive in such a society, as she enjoys the humor of the ridiculous pomposity of Mr. Collins as her father does. [I disagree with the introduction here. • 13. Leadership Is A Key Factor Essay Leadership means the ability of a superior to influence the behaviour of subordinates and persuade them to follow a particular course of action (Barnard, 1938)Effective leadership is a key factor in the life and success of an organisation. There are many theories of leadership have been proposed like Great man theory, trait theory , The managerial grid and Theory X and Theory Y as it s a part of behaviour theory and Participative theory. There are many traits and skill of person which makes normal person to leader. There are honesty, passion, respect, clarity, emotional stability etc. From them we just now concentrate on these five qualities. There are, 1.Vision Vision is more important than your leadership skill as without this skill team cannot go anywhere like this skill is a heart of leadership (Small Business, 2012). Vision can have power in that leader can see the future state in present and built a road to arrive at stated future goal (Kohut, 2013).With clear vision leader can make plan to get involved in the activity to achieve the goal in defined time. There is confidence in each action which has vision in behind (Richter). Finally it is like how organisation looks like after some time or may be at which stage it will be in near future (Richter). It provides the execution idea and also motivation. 2.Tolerant to stress Each person has optimal level of stress that they actually enjoy. It makes work exiting and engaging. Shark Bay Stromatolites Module Focus: Life On Earth FOCUS QUESTIONS: 1.How does an understanding of the Shark Bay stromatolites provide paleontological evidence that suggest when life originated on Earth? Glossary Stromatolites simple bacteria existed in structures called stromatolites which were very similar to present day living stromatolites. These organisms live in shallow marine environments. Stromatolites are formed through the activity of primitive unicellular organisms (cyanobacteria/blue green algae and other algae). These grow through sediment and sand, binding the sedimentary particles together, resulting in successive layers and over a long period, these harden to form rock. Stromatolites were the main reef building organisms constructing large masses of calcium carbonate for at least Вѕ of the Earth s history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stromatolites are still produced by microbes today. These modern stromatolites are remarkably similar to the ancient stromatolites which provide evidence of some of the earliest life on Earth. Modern and ancient stromatolites have similar shapes and, when seen in cross section, both show the same fine layering produced by thin bacterial sheets. Microfossils of ancient cyanobacteria can sometimes be identified within these layers. Palaeontology the scientific study of fossils and all aspects of extinct life determining the structure and evolution of extinct animals, plants, the age and conditions of deposition of the rocks in which they are found. For providers, we extracted employee ID, employee role, and a physician index (a Boolean value; 1 if provider is a type of physician, 0 if not). For patients, we extracted age, encounter type (all inpatient in this data set), admission and discharge times, primary diagnosis, discharge location, length of stay, med service (department to which the patient was admitted), discharge disposition (where the patient was discharged to), and an index noting whether or not the patient had expired. Network Visualization We created two types of networks in this study. The first is a directed bipartite network and represents interactions between providers and patient records (Figure 2). The second network is undirected and depicts shared patient record access between providers (Figure 3). Visualization for both networks was performed using Gephi. They were taught arithmetic, practical skills, and to read and write. Some wealthy families preferred hiring a tutor for their children (Koetzsch, 1997). In the 1840s, prominent leaders such as Horace Mann lead a movement to institute public schools in the United States (Thattai, 2001). These reformers argued that public schools would create good citizens, unite society, and prevent crime and poverty. Public schools and American society are a threat to their beliefs and values. Conservative Christians believe that public schools are anti religious, dominated by materialism, plagued by violence, full of sexual promiscuity, and plagued by drug use. Approximately 80 percent of home schooled children are Conservative Christians (Koetzsch, 1997). By the late 1980 s, many parents were turning to home schooling as an alternate form of education. By 1998, all fifty states had laws allowing home schooling (Koetzsch, 1997). Advantages and Disadvantages to Home Schooling There are many reasons why parents decide to home school their children. Home schoolers can be divided into two main groups, ideologues and pedagogues. Ideologues home school their children for religious purposes. Pedagogues home school because they believe they can teach their children better than public or private institutions (Thomas, 1998). We will attempt to verify Newton s Second law which is a mathematical statement relating force, mass, and acceleration. Newton s Second law states that acceleration, a, is directly related to net force, F, and inversely related to mass, m. Naturally this give F=ma. Using the Atwood s Machine experimental acceleration data (for 10 different runs with 10 different combinations of masses) will be gathered and compared to the theoretical acceleration which is predicted by Newton s Second Law using a modified version of F=ma. The only two variables in this system system that we will control are the the two masses. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inversely proportional relationship between total mass and acceleration is also shown in our graph. I took the liberty of plotting the non constant mass by F vs. aexp. Which clearly showed that with an increase in total mass resulted in a gradual decrease of the acceleration of the system. There were several sources of error in our experiment. But none affected the ability for a relationship between mass, acceleration, force to be drawn. The largest error was the one mentioned above. But its source was the easiest to account for. We mis imputed the value of the spoke length into DataStudio. Luckley this mistake was easily remedied due to the design of the pulley. The electronic eye was recording a time that was exactly half of what it should have been. This time data produced an acceleration that was exactly double what it should be. Therefore this was issue was easily remedied by dividing the times by 2. Other sources of error were due to the frictional forces in the pulley system, also the masses of the weights might not have been perfect. Air resistance was a major player when the difference in masses was large, therefore acceleration was high. The weights could have been verified to eliminate that error, and more advanced physics could have been used to take into account the friction of the pulley and the air resistance. ... An architect can be described as some who designs, plans, and perhaps even constructs buildings. Within the broad definition, the job of an architects spreads throughout the spectrum. Architects do much more than simply design a structure and present it to a client. An architect must carry a variety of characteristics and knowledge that can vary from project to project. Architects find themselves having to study a series of subjects such as psychology, real estate, to even politics that contribute to their careers. Overall, an architect has to an extent three basic sets of skills: math, drawing, and creative thinking. Architects use these three skills in order to succeed in their field. Although these three skills are necessary, many architects are not masters at these skills; many more are afraid of having to know complex mathematics. Architect students will need the necessary skills of math, drawing, and creative thinking in order to become successful architects. As a brand manager for Snapple beverages at the Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc., he was charged with assessing whether or not a profitable market opportunity existed for a new energy beverage brand to be produced, marketed, and distributed by the company in 2008. Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. was the only major domestic nonalcoholic beverage company in the United States without a significant branded energy drink of its own. The decision to explore a new energy beverage was made by senior company management as part of a corporate business strategy to focus on opportunities in high growth and high margin... I will need to come up with a competitive price that will be able to compete but also have high enough margins to where we can make it. 3. Analysis: The analysis section will require me to evaluate each of the strategic options that we might have. I am going to layout the pros and cons for: heavy users, all energy drink users and the adult segment, as shown below in the appendices as figure 1 1. Single serve energy beverage drink retail prices have generally settled at roughly $2.00 per single serve package, regardless of size. As a consequence, larger single serve packages are priced lower on a per ounce basis than smaller packages. Shown in figure 1 2, it shows that our drink Rush NRG will need to come down a little bit in prices to be competitive and make margins meet. The 16 ounce size, representing about 50 percent of case sales in convenience stores, has posted the fastest growth. Multi packs represent a small portion of case sales and typically are marketed through supermarkets and mass merchandisers. When coming to choose what version you want to make, it is obvious that regular energy beverages have an 80 percent share of the market; sugar free has 20 percent. Deciding what type of distribution to use between off premise and on premise to me is a no brainer. Convenience stores accounted for 74 percent of off premise retail dollar sales. When Invasion of the Body Snatchers was directed by Don Siegal in 1956, he wanted to produce a film that creatively captured the fear of McCarthyism. The movie was inspired by the novel written by Jack Finneyin 1954, which also aimed to depict what fears society had in the 50s. The film was recreated three more times, each with an original spin on the first movie and novel, but still effectively capturing the attention of the audience. The primary hope was of increasing awareness over the fear of Communism and losing one s personal autonomy to Communism while each adaptation reflects the struggles and mindset during the time period that it was set in. Each of these films and novel, despite their numerous differences, reflect the period that they were created in through themes of losing one s individuality, gender roles, and paranoia. The novel that inspired the production of Invasion of the Body Snatcherswas written in 1954 by Jack Finney titled The Body Snatchers. Finney used this novel to convey the fact that individuality is beneficial to humanity because if everyone is the same then there is a universal loss of identity (Sloan 183). Columbia s sword is pointed towards the man as a symbol of distrust from the nation towards ex confederate generals. From this depiction it can be inferred that the people believed they could not trust those that left the United States. Year by year card fraud and database hacking is increasing. The main reason being the outdated method of using a card and PIN. Therefore to counteract the information being stolen so easily, this project introduces the idea of integrating Fingerprint Technology into the Banking system. She is no longer a youthful lady, but a mother of a grown up daughter. It is very common in patriarchal societies to view womanas mothers after a certain age. Even though Elie tried not to howl in pain in the way of accepting his false, Idek mistook him and beat Elise harder and harder (Wiesel 53). This was an example of cruelty because Elie was being beaten for just being in Idek s path while Idek was venting his anger. Idek s actions showed cruelty because he attacked Elie without stopping to let Elie recover even though, Elie was nearly dying from the beating. Another example of beatings, was that in the Nanjing database of war, Alan Axelrod s The Rape of Nanjing, the war crime database stated that Atrocities reported and (in many cases) documented include a rampage through the Nanking Hospital, during which soldiers tore bandages from the flesh of the wounded, smashed casts with clubs, and raped nurses (Axelrod). Throughout his Gospel, Mark focuses on accurately revealing Jesus identity to his readers, and explaining why Jesus was destined to die on the Cross. Mark uses his role as an arranger by employing a diverse array of literary tactics to highlight the lessons of his narrative. One of the most effective of these devices is intercalation the process of sandwiching one story between the beginning and ending of a separate story. For most people, this tactic would at first appear as impractical or senseless; however, through this process Mark is able to convey a deeper meaning in the lessons he is hoping to share through the life of Jesus, and what it infers about the nature of God s Kingdom. One of the most notable examples of intercalation in the Gospelof Mark is seen in Mark 5:21 43: the story of the raising of Jairus twelve year old daughter and the woman who suffered from hemorrhages. Through the intercalation of these two passages, Mark is able to express that the boundaries of God s Kingdom expand beyond social status and wealth, and that faith alone is all that is needed to be a part of His divine realm. Advocates of TTIP claim that this trade deal, if signed, would bring enormous benefits to both shores of the Atlantic, that it is a debt free economic stimulus to the stagnant European economy and it will set a golden standard for future Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with third countries. Non governmental organizations (NGOs) and consumer protection activists fear that such a deal would lower domestic health, safety and environmental standards. Anti TTIP movements, united under the stop TTIP campaign throughout Europe, have been using many evocative images such as American chlorine washed chicken, hormone treated meat, and genetically modified food, to explain their opposition to a comprehensive trade agreement between the EU and the United States. With this paper, I intend to analyze the possible impact that a TTIP agreement could have for the Italian agricultural sector, what is at stake for it and what could be the limits to a successful agreement.
