Deliver Your Immune System Essay
PREPARE YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
Most adults suffer between 2 4 colds and flus each year. A person is contagious from the day before
the illness breaks out until 1 3 days after they feel better. A cold usually lasts only a few days, while
the flu can last several weeks to a month. The symptoms of a cold can include a general feeling of
discomfort, a headache, nasal dryness and/or runny nose, and congestion of the upper respiratory tract.
The flu, a viral infection, is highly contagious. The symptoms include: high fever, headaches, shivers,
aches and pains, fatigue, nasal secretions, difficulty swallowing and watery eyes, followed by lung
congestion.
Ninety percent of colds and flus are caused by viral infections. There are over 200 ... Show more

MEDICAL OPTIONS AND THE PROS AND CONS OF EACH
Vaccination protects the body against only a few viruses, leaving vulnerability to 200 other viruses
Antibiotics effective against bacterial infections, only; overuse of antibiotics is responsible for the
emergence of a super strain of bacteria, can cause resistance to all antibiotics
Antiviral effective if started in the first 48 hours only where symptoms appear, diminished efficacy for
those over 65 years of age, virus can become resistant to an antiviral, side effects might occur,
prescription required, fairly expensive
Over the counter medications alleviate symptoms but do not help fight infections, which can make the
situation worse due to the body s possible weakened defenses

Purpose One: To attempt to culture bacteria from swabs taken from different areas of a school
environment and to observe the growth of bacteria.
Purpose Two: To determine and observe the antibacterial properties of different substances,
particularly silver nitrate (AgNO3) and copper sulfate (CuSO4).
Hypothesis One: If the swabs are taken from areas that frequently come into contact with people, or
areas with food nearby, then attempts to culture bacteria from the swabs will be successful, yielding
bacterial colonies that grow exponentially.
Hypothesis Two: If the bacteria are immersed in a solution of silver nitrate or ... Show more content

The independent variables in this experiment were the different substances tested. There were two
controls in this experiment. The first control was quadrant A of the petri dish where no bacteria nor
any of the substances were placed. The second control was quadrant
B of the petri dish where only bacteria were placed. By making comparisons between the areas with
the substances and quadrant A, it could be determined if the bacteria had been exterminated. By
making comparisons between the areas with the substances and quadrant B, it could be determined if
the growth of bacteria in the affected. Since the bacteria in quadrant B were allowed to grow without
being affected by any manipulated variables, it was used as a reference point to determine if the
substances had any effect on bacterial growth. Since each group was limited to one petri dish, no
replicates were made. All observations in this lab were taken qualitatively (biological drawings)
because accurate measurements could not be made due to the petri dish being sealed. During

Exploitation of Imagery in The Dead and Araby by James Joyce
James Joyce, the author of both Araby and The Dead, exploits a sense of imagery throughout both
short stories. Araby and The Dead both share and differ from each other in the ways the imagery is
shown. The vivid imagery in Araby is applied to express feelings and expressions from one character
to another. The main character, an unnamed boy, has an undying admiration for Mangan s sister.
James Joyce describes the boy s obsession with Mangan s sister in vast imagery. The Dead also
includes many senses of imagery, but shows kinesthetic imagery rather than vivid imagery.
Kinesthetic imagery is an imagery that is portrayed through the movement and physical tension. In
The Dead, Gabriel, the main character, dislikes the country of Ireland he lives in, so he flees.
Throughout this, Gabriel describes how Ireland is boring and cold, displaying kinesthetic imagery. The
Dead and Araby both include vivid imagery, kinesthetic imagery, and auditory imagery.
Vivid imagery can be seen all throughout Araby. Vivid imagery is detailed writing that gives you a
sense of an image while you read. The story begins with North Richmond Street, being blind, was a
quiet street and continues to say, An uninhabited house of two storeys stood at the blind end, detached
from its neighbours in a square ground. The other houses of the street, conscious of decent lives within
them, gazed at one another with brown imperturbable faces ( Araby 1019). The way this imagery is
used shows

Campus Area Wireless Network Proposal
CAMPUS AREA WIRELESS NETWORK PROPOSAL ( UITM MACHANG ) This proposal
recommends the implementation of Project CAWN (Campus Area Wireless Network) at the
University Teknologi Mara, Kelantan branch. The following information and recommendations are
necessary for the university to stay on the cutting edge of today s campus technology 1.0
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Information Technology Department, UiTM Kelantan has indicated
that wireless access improvements are important to students. Specifically, both the 2008/2009
2009/2010 surveys reports show the expansion of the wireless service requiring attention. This trend is
expected to continue as the proliferation of students with mobile devices increases. Currently, the

Additional VLANs configured on these access points will require encryption (keys delivered through
the authentication process) and will not be advertised via beacon broadcasts. In this model, when users
activate their wireless network interface, the general use VLAN will be automatically listed as an
available connection. Connections to other available networks (such as department VLANs) will have
to be explicitly requested by the user in order to gain access. It should be noted that in order to provide
a cost effective centrally managed service it is likely that wireless access points from a single vendor
will be required. 3.3 Coverage Area The buildings highlighted in red represent where some level of
wireless coverage will be available at the end of the project. Not all buildings will have the same level
of coverage. Outdoor areas and main thoroughfares will be deployed depending on wireless access
available in surrounding buildings Figure 3.1: UiTM Kelantan Campus Map [pic] 3.4 Buildings and
Classrooms The Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Access Point will be used for this project. These access
points will be placed on the ceilings of hallways, classrooms, and study lounges in order, to maximize
connection rates. There are ten buildings on campus will be able to be part of CAWN project. Our
focus is classrooms, study lounges, and outside areas with high density student and faculty

My First Day Of College
College Freshmen
My first day of college is one of the most important experiences of my life. The semester began on
August 28, 2017. In that morning, I had plenty of time compared to high school. I overslept because I
knew college starts only at 10 a.m. I had an alarm set for 9 a.m. Once I woke, I took a shower and got
ready. HACC is about minimum 8 minutes away from my house. By 9:40 a.m., I was on my way to
the Harrisburg Area Community College. I was full of confidence that I will reach the campus on
time, but the opposite happened. It was my life goal to go to college, however, there came the
complication because I was unaware of the incomprehension and unfamiliarity of being freshmen in
college. As a former new student, I got a little lost before I arrived at my math class. Once I reached
the HACC parking lot, I wasted more than 10 minutes going around the parking lot looking for an
empty spot. While I was driving around, I felt very frustrating. Besides, I was running late to class.
Unfortunately, I did not consider a full parking lot. Suddenly I remembered, when I came to college
orientation I parked my car across a small bridge where a new parking lot was under construction. I
drove there and found out they finished constructing the new parking lot. There were a lot of empty
parking spots. I parked my car and quickly walked toward Whitaker Hall rushing to find my math
class. I had a map of the campus, which listed all names and locations of specific buildings. In

The short half life of this isotope means that radiation levels reduce quickly. High density shielding
material should be used when storing F 18 but this is impractical when handling the material. The
predominant radiation emitted is gamma rays. Therefore, field contamination monitors should use
sensitive gamma detectors.

Astraphobia Definition
Astraphobia
Sirens blaring the flash of lightning then the colossal clap of thunder. Many people think that storms
are amazing and beautiful, but some think storms are the worst thing on the planet. These people who
hate storms have a phobia called astraphobia. This phobia is also very common in children and if you
have this phobia, don t feel ashamed, an astonishing 2.1% of people on this planet have astraphobia.
Astraphobia is nothing to be ashamed of and many people suffer from this phobia.
Like many phobias, this is caused by a traumatic experience or event. For example, if someone was

Short Note On Cutting My Hair
I stood there with the dull, black, kitchen scissors in my hand opening and closing them in thoughtful
anticipation. This was it. This was the moment I decided to be recklessly happy. I had wanted a haircut
for a long time and now I was going to get what I wanted regardless of the consequences. On
November 15, 2015, I decided to cut all of my hair off which gave me the courage to be myself whilst
handling the consequences, and through it all I learned that my happiness was more important than
making others happy. The decision to cut my hair was not a quick one, I deliberated on what to do for
years. I first got the idea to cut my hair four years ago when I was twelve. I did not mean a trim or
even a few inches off. I wanted a pixie cut. This was a shock to my parents because I had always had
long hair. The most I had ever cut was an inch or two. They were horrified when I cheerfully
presented them with a picture of the haircut I wanted. My parents had a stunned looks on their faces,
and in unison they said No . I, for the life of me, could not figure out why they reacted so badly. I
began to develop a plan. I would begin the process of cutting my hair by giving myself bangs. A few
weeks passed and then I did it. I grabbed a slightly dulled pair of scissors, parted my hair from left to
right near the front of my face, wrapped a hair tie around it and braced myself. I took a deep breath
and placed the scissors right above the tie and cut it off. Six inches of hair fell into

The Segregation Of South Afric An Outcome Of Colonialism,...
The existing pattern of manipulated schooling in South Africa can be considered an outcome of
colonialism, segregation and apartheid. In the early 1800s, the arrival of the British introduced the first
system of education in Africa. The indigenous people of Africa were exposed to schooling under the
provision of British missionaries. At this time, education was a means of spreading the British
language, imposing their religion and just a general mechanism for social control. Their strategy was
to civilize the black Africans and anglicize the white Afrikaners. And most of the school
establishments were mixed, serving whites coloreds and Africans. However, the Afrikaners resisted
European control in attempt to avoid becoming the lower ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Education s role can be molding a person for their prescribed field of work, and that is exactly what
the whites conducted. They systematically programmed the Africans for work as cheap unskilled
laborers and thus left the superior roles in society for themselves to fill. Clear ethnic and class
stratification developed, and the government eventually adopted the view that Africans must fund their
own education, which continued throughout the apartheid. Between 1910 and 1948, per capita
expenditures on white education increased by 263% and African numbers in school plummeted to
about 30% (Johnson 1982). Once again, limiting education was a tool to shape society for the benefit
of one group the education of the White child prepares him for life in a dominant society and the
education of the black child for a subordinate society (Johnson 1982). And in 1948, the Afrikaner
National Party rose to power by an election victory, attaining further governmental policy control. The
aim of the National Party was to increase and rigidify the segregationism imposed in the few years
previous, and thus began the apartheid in South Africa. To facilitate the separation of all ethnic groups
the Bantu Education act was introduced in 1953. And in combination with the National Education
Policy Act of 1967, which stripped the provinces of most of their control over white education and
empowered the Minister of

Hello Dr. Gerhard, Recently you challenged Lisa and me with the task of increasing the number of
families that have completed the Info snap process. Although there is definitely a friendly but high
level of competitiveness between us, we have developed a habit of addressing building needs together
in a more team oriented approach. Although we each think we would have won the challenge, we
recognize that we are a power house when we work together and although it was very tempting to

said, below you will note the ideas that we have come up with. We categorized them into ideas that we
can implement immediately and ideas that we may want to consider for next year s Info snap roll out.

Obama Vs. Clinton And Burr Vs Ross Essay
In early September, Burr was leading Ross with 46.7% to 43% according to Real Clear Politics. By
early November, he was only ahead by an average of 1.5%. While North Carolina is widely
considered a battleground state, Five Thirty Eight gave Burr a 73.4% chance of winning reelection.
With the exception of a drop in the middle of October, Burrs chances of winning were consistent
throughout the Senate race as shown below in figure 2.
Although Burr was never able to reach 50% in the polls, he exceeded that threshold on Election Day
and defeated Ross by almost 6%. In order to analyze the political climate further, I will be comparing
the exit polls for both Trump vs. Clinton and Burr vs Ross. This will help explain why Ross was
entering the Senate race with a disadvantage despite media pundits arguing that higher turnout in
presidential election years should benefit Ross. Although Five Thirty Eight gave Clinton the slight
edge to defeat Trump in North Carolina, Trump s was able to carry the state with a modest
performance. Although Real Clear Politics had Burr winning by an average of 2%, that was certainly
below the 5.7% final result. In a three way race between Trump, Clinton, and Johnson, Trump was
predicted to win North Carolina by about 1%. The actual results, however, showed Trump winning by
about 4%. Although this paper is focusing on the Senate race, it s certainly important to note the
impact that a presidential candidate can have on the electoral map, particularly

Heroic Qualities Of Odysseus
Homer s epic poem The Odyssey begins by painting Odysseus as a brave and powerful leader and an
impulsive decision maker who over time becomes more intelligent; Homer develops these relatable
and heroic characteristics through detailed imagery and word choice as well as through symbols and
homeric similes which amplify the representation of Odysseus as a normal person as well as a heroic
figure. Odysseus s tendency to succumb to impulsive strokes of curiosity enables readers to relate with
his inner character. The protagonist gives into the natural human curiosity to find and fix one s
weakness. Circe tells him of the sirens who know the secrets of Odysseus s weakness, she also tells
him that listening to their knowledge is unwise and he along with his crew should close their ears.
However, in his impulsivity, Odysseus actually tells his crew to force him to listen while they cover
their ears. Odysseus also shows his impulses in regards to thirst for knowledge when he sends two
scouts to explore the land of the Lotus Eaters, knowing full well that their chance of return is unlikely.
This quest for knowledge could have been in a slower, but more logical and effective way. This shows
how Odysseus can easily succumb to less logical ideas if it is a question of his power or knowledge.
Another constant in his early story is his portrayal as a daring and fearless figure, often taking control
and triumphing over potential threats. Odysseus witnesses two of his shipmates be

Professional counselors and their staff are exposed to sensitive client information and records. The

Association Code of Ethics (ACA Code of Ethics) and state board counseling laws to common ethical
scenarios. The content explores aspects designed to call attention to favorable and unfavorable skills

The Biased Media and Its Effects on American Interest...
The Biased Media and Its Effects on American Interest Towards Politics In America we value the
freedom of the press. The press is the one place where most Americans go to get educated on issues
facing their community, state, and most of all nation. Everyone knows that the media plays a major
role in Americans lives; however their role of gatekeeper is not completely understood. The press
decides which issues to report and how to report them. In order to improve the nation and world, the
media should present their unbiased findings to allow people to make up their own minds. However,
this is not the case. The media often shows its bias. Their widespread exposure enables them to

I think that many Americans do not even know their Senators or House Representatives name. On the
other hand, it would be very difficult to find someone who does not know anything about the recent
presidential election. Everyone knows about the Florida ballot disputes only because the media has
placed so much emphasis on them. There is so much media coverage in politics today that in order to
be elected one must be appealing to the public. Years ago the only way people could find out about
candidates and the issues they stood for was by reading a newspaper or listening to the radio. Today,
anyone can turn on the television or go to a web site on the Internet and see the candidates themselves
talking about their issues. With almost all American homes having at least one television, a candidate
must possess a good personality, plans and ideas. Now, more than ever Americans place excessive
importance on appearance. This means that a candidate has to appear successfully, competent and
inspire confidence. When was the last time a president was elected based on appearances? It was
probably in the 1800 s with the election of Abe Lincoln. History shows what a great president he was.
It sounds very superficial, but unfortunately this is true of our society. Candidates have to appeal to the
public as much as possible, and appear comfortable on camera. However a candidate s appearance is
not the only thing that plays a major role in getting them elected. In 1984,

The Woman Warrior
Beginnings as Applied to The Woman Warrior The beginning of Maxine Hong Kingston s novel, The
Woman Warrior, introduces various themes that recur throughout the story. Through the anecdotes
Kingston shares about her childhood as a Chinese girl growing up in America, she discusses gender
inequality and conflict due to a generation gap and a difference in cultures. By starting off with a story
that her mother, Brave Orchid, told her about her dead and forgotten aunt, Kingston applies the
techniques suggested in the chapter Beginnings in Technique in Fiction, igniting the readers curiosity
and tying the memoir together. Kingston begins the novel in media res, or in the middle of things

Kingston slips this into the chapter by guessing that her dead aunt s child is female since there is some
hope of forgiveness for boys (Kingston 15). The subject of gender inequality shows up throughout the
novel, such as when Kingston s great uncle takes only the boys out to town, fully aware that the girls
want to come, but leaving them at home hanging [their] coats back up (47). This issue is a global one;
even in modern times, women are seen as inferior to men. In this memoir, gender inequality is one of
the issues that Kingston is attempting to point out to us. Although not all of the readers are Chinese
American, Kingston transcends the cultural barrier to speak to the reader about her experiences with
gender inequality and conflict. In the end of the novel, Kingston references another story Brave
Orchid told her about a poetess named Ts ai Yen. Similarly to how Kingston rises above barriers to
speak to her reader about how certain issues affected her childhood self, Ts ai Yen is able to overcome
a language barrier to make barbarians understand her emotions through a song she sings. In this way,
by integrating gender inequality into the beginning of the novel, Kingston is able to tie the novel
together, and ensure that the beginning has the seeds of finality in it (Macauley and Lanning

What Is The Mission Statement Of Nestle
Development in online retail could open up new distribution channels, for example, Amazon Prime

Introduction Of The Crystal Palace
INTRODUCTION
It was like like nothing but itself, unsurpassable, indescribable, unique, amazing, real!
Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in
1851
From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal
Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As
the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian
Era (John 129).
To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world,
Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition
of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to
October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the
exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen
Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world
during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South
Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial
and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a
hope that the nation s economic growth

Some things are hard for people to understand. Like how anyone could be proud of nasty, yellow
calluses that make your hands feel like leather or how anyone could hate a machine that s supposed to
help you. To most rowing is just another sport, but to people who row it s a key component of their
identity. I believe the hardest thing for people to understand about rowing is why anyone would put
themselves through intense pain to win a race. Sometimes it s even hard for me to remember why I
started rowing in the first place. Then I realize that I don t know what I d do if I didn t row. I don t
know where I would be without my teammates, coaches, and parents who have pushed and supported
me to do better and be better.
Rowing has taught me more

The Bill Becomes A Law Essay
The process in which a bill becomes a law can be a lengthy one; it must go through many steps in
order to become the law of the land. It is believed that this process should be a matter that every
American citizen should be informed of in order to fully understand and appreciate the inner workings
of congress with regard to The House of Representatives and the Senate. The steps in which a bill
becomes a law is an example of the democratic way of life here in The United States. The fact that a
proposal cannot become a law without consideration and approval by both houses of congress is an
outstanding virtue of our bicameral legislative system. (Maes 1 2) Anyone can create a bill not just a
member of congress. Any citizen, group or organization can draw up a bill just from an idea. The right
to petition is guaranteed by the first amendment. These bills are usually written in the form of a letter.
It is estimated that more then 15,000 bills are introduced to The House of Representatives and the
Senate each year. Each one is then assigned to a committee after it is given a number. Twenty two of
these committees belong to The House of Representatives and fifteen to the Senate. There are four
types of committees, they are; the Standing Committee, The Select Committee, The Conference
Committee and The Joint Committee. The Standing Committee deals with issues regarding permanent
legislation. The Select Committee deals with temporary issues that are in need of

Nourishment In Robinson Crusoe
Daniel Defoe s novel Robinson Crusoe reflects the most progressive, democratic ideas of the early
Enlightenment. Using the theme of the island, located out of contact with the community, Defoe
demonstrates Robinson s life as an example of the intrinsic value of inner freedom in social
development and the creation of material and spiritual base of a society. Transferring the early
Enlightenment ideas, Defoe shows the way Robinson, former Puritan mystic, comes to the complete
concept of the universe. Confessions of a protagonist demonstrate that reasonable Robinson makes
this possible after the conquest of nature, which the author describes not as physical development of
the island but the cognition of laws of nature and reasons of existence. ... Show more content on

While Defoe seems to shift between these two ideas of depiction of the setting, both hardships that
stimulate physical work and ideal circumstances for philosophical mental work lead to spiritual
transformation of the protagonist. As a result, striving for success of young, driven by the spirit of the
time Robinson transforms into the Robinson, who on the Island of Despair overcomes the difficulties
with great fortitude and returns home as an entrepreneur. Presented by Defoe, the evolution of the
consciousness of Robinson from desperate to optimistic insight gives reason to the Enlightenment
educational program of the improvement of a man and a society. Thus, the savage state of Nature in
which Man is threatened and challenged is the author s educational experiment, in which Man is self
nurtured. An experiment in forming spiritual maturity, moral strength of the personality through the
work. While the work is a forced, urgent need to survive on a desert island it does not bother hero as it
becomes a remedy for despair. Defoe elevates a physical labor on a spiritual level. What seems
punishment at first, the reason tries to look at as blessing. While the initial inner state of the
protagonist is the despair, the overcoming many difficulties, the Bible

Conflict Theory And Crime
Conflict theory has a similar logical consistency and purports that it s the conflict in the society that
results from the difference in social class that causes crime and that as a result of conflicts, laws are
introduced as a necessity, as opposed to general consensus. The social and economic forces that
operate within the society becomes the main cause of crime. The rich and powerful social elites are
thought to control justice and law systems. This makes the poor subjects to control separating them
from the powerful in the society who feel they would steal from them hence they have to protect
themselves from physical attack (Anderson and Anderson 121). To restore the order and ensure justice
to the poor, vigilantes may then

Explain How Many Older People Can Learn Many Things From...
Older people can learn many things from my generation. One thing they can learn is acceptance. My
generation can teach older generations to be more acceptant of other people and their differences
whether it s their gender, ethnicity, nationality or religion. People are not born to hate, hate is taught. I
would like to believe that my generation is more compassionate. We could teach older people
compassion by being more compassionate and teaching future generations the same. If we all just treat
each other as we would like to be treated the world would be a better place for all. My generation
could also teach older people how to operate electronics. It is important for everyone to learn to use a
computer, tablet and smart phone regardless

Slang And Its Effect On Everyday Life Essay
The use of slang in my life today is very evident. My roommates and I always talk slang during the
day and the night. I don t use slang very much in text messages or emails partly because I don t feel
the need and I am normally emailing professors and staff members who expect me to respect them by
writing with proper English. Most of the time my roommates and I use slang when we are just
messing or playing around. Therefore, the use of slang in my classroom will be mainly for educational
purposes and limited because of the focus on standard English and the negative view it may put upon
the child. There is no doubt that people use slang almost every day. These people might be just using it
for fun and mocking others, while some may use it to protest the use of standard English. The book,
How English Works, by Curzan and Adams talks about how slang is used in everyday life and thrives
in places that involve pop music, athletics, narcotics, and other various factors (Curzan and Adams,
2012). I feel that Curzan and Adams are right on point when they say slang thrives on these main
ideas. For example, my roommates listen to music that has slang involved in it. My roommates and I
normally sing to some of the songs while they are playing or even after they are done playing and use
slang without consciously knowing because it is in a song. Normally these songs get stuck in our
heads and we end up singing the lyrics out loud using slang almost every day. Most of the songs that

Idi Amin Research Paper
The human race is known for the anger and violence that each individual is capable of releasing. A
primal and sometimes carnal instinct embedded deep in almost everyone. But through the centuries,
there have been certain people who have taken their violent urges and released them on a grander
scale scarily imaginable. One such individual came to be known as the butcher of Uganda, Idi Amin.
Raised in the Muslim faith and hailing from the northwestern areas of Uganda known as Koboko,
from a small ethnic tribe known as the Kakwa. The future dictator s exact date of birth is unknown,
but it is estimated that Idi Amin was born around the year 1925. His father, a member of the Kakwa
Tribe, is said to have abandoned their family leaving Amin being ... Show more content on

of the country s economy which would reach inflation rates of as high as 1000%. Amin also decided to

Happy Chang Short Story Essay
My initial reaction to this piece of literature was one of happiness. I love sports and the mostly, the
only stories I love to read have sports tied into them one way or another. The fact that the setting took
place at a baseball game was one that got me interested into the story and grabbed my attention all the
way through. With saying this, I was really confused on how this storied played out. A jealous man
that has had a rough past umpiring a championship game that in the end he doesn t he finish umping?
Very confusing and hard to really know why the author set up and told the story the way he did. When
they first mentioned Lori Chang on page 7, I smiled because of what they described her as. I thought
of a very innocent girl that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Part II: Reaction after Class Discussion After the class discussion, I will have to say that I like the
story even more than a initially thought. Me liking the story more is mainly due to me understanding
the story better than I did the first time I read it. I am just an average reader and the discussion really
opened my eyes and made me realize all of the things that I didn t pick up on or were confused about
make since and all tie in to the importance of the story. A big take away from the discussion that I did
not even think about while reading the story the first time was the fact that it was a first person point
of view and that we only get Jacks perspective told us. This made me rethink the story in a way that
questioned if all the things Jack is saying is really the truth or is he just delusional. The question of
Why does Tim always side with Carl on calls that Jack made in which Carl argued came up in class
and it was discussed. I think with realizing that the story is from Jacks perspective really exposes this
question because Tim sided with Carl multiple times in a situation that Lori Chang was supposedly
throwing at their players heads (6,11). Then I wondered why would Jack be trying to protect Lori
Chang and luckily this was also brought up in our discussion. Reading the story, the first time, I didn t
pay much attention to Jacks

Management of Human Service Programs
Management of human service programs 1.Develop at least one process evaluation measure and at
least on outcome evaluation measure that you suggest for the Consultation and Education (C E)
Department at Greenby Community Mental Health Center (Greenby) to display the program s
effetiveness and efficiency. The department is facing the problem of losing funds for their operation.
Accessing the needs for the human service programs is significant in evaluating the success of the
program. It involves determining the problems to be addressed by the program thereby identifying the
ability of the programmers in meeting the needs. The programmers can only consider the program as
effective just after determining the compatibility of the program to the community problems.
Accessing the needs will help the programmers in analyzing and diagnosing any social needs that
relate to the program. The programmers would have to state the actual problem, analyze the scope of
the problem and define the nature of the community needs with the proper target intervention. The
steps followed in needs assessment include the following: performing gap analysis, prioritizing the
activities according to their importance, identification of the causes of opportunities and performance
and the ultimate identification of solution and growth opportunities (Unrau et al, 2007). Determining
the role of the outcome in the evaluation will help in identifying the effectiveness and the efficiency of
the program in the

God Was Wrong, Support Mountaintop Removal
God Was Wrong, Support Mountaintop Removal
Coal in the United States has long been the #1 producer of energy. Massive seams of coal are found in
the Appalachian Mountains, and our reliance on this fossil fuel has meant devastation for many
mountain residents and over 500 mountains. As our society advances, the need for more energy
advances. What were once beautiful rolling hills are now flattened plateaus reminiscent of a landscape
you would see in the desert. We as a nation have only short term interest in our environment, and
choose to ignore the many warning signs this planet continues to offer us. Left in our path of
destruction are the many residents of Appalachia and a landscape that begs us for forgiveness.
Mountaintop removal is process where the tops of mountains are removed with explosives in order to
extract coal from inside the mountain. The debris created by the explosions is discarded in a valley,
which is then called fill material. A loophole in the Clean Water Act reclassified the waste created by
mountaintop removal waste as valley fill, which in turn greatly increased extraction of coal from
mountains (225). These valleys usually contain streams which become buried underneath fill, causing
much of the natural habitat to vanish and poisoning what streams are left. The older and more
traditional method was to dig inside the mountain through a tunnel network which was more time
consuming and required much more personnel. Of course, when companies

shame these young men would feel just for fleeing for their lives. The decision was mainly based on
what they re friends, family, country would think of them if they did something so human like not
wanting to die and doing what everyone else thought the right thing to do was. All the eyes on me the

Nurturing Natures By Graham Music
In Graham Music s book, Nurturing Natures: Attachment and Children s Emotional, Sociocultural,
and Brain Development, Music explains to the reader how poverty, neglect and trauma can be
associated with PTSD, posttraumatic stress disorder, and how PTSD can develop into long term
psychiatric and even physical medical conditions. Neglect of a child can affect them later in life and
affect their learning, social, mobile and regular everyday functions and activities. Music also shows
the reader how early childhood experiences can impact attachment between mother and child. In
addition, while neglect can occur at anytime during development, children are most vulnerable
because of their reliance on adults in order to survive. He shows the reader ... Show more content on

The most damaging form of trauma is interpersonal trauma which is far more likely than other
traumas, such as car accidents, to give rise to posttraumatic symptoms (Van der Kolk, 1989). Maybe
the worst form of interpersonal trauma is that inflicted by a child s carers. When a carer turns abuser,
then the world feels unsafe and unpredictable. Serious abuse often leads to fear, helplessness, shame...
(Music 206)
Music shows how early trauma and neglect can impair a child s education, social activities and life.
Children need constant parental monitoring in order to thrive. Without constant redirection, nurturing
and advice especially in vulnerable communities like impoverished homes and poor neighborhoods
external negative influences can neglect can set in triggering PTSD like symptoms. In short, without
parental monitoring, children do not learn the necessities in order to live life to the fullest. Music
explains PTSD to include intrusive thoughts and flashbacks. Interpersonal trauma refers to injuries
and neglect that can be sustained within families. Children are negatively impacted by neglect because
if the parent is unable to meet the child s basic and psychological needs, then not only is the child at
risk, but the parent is demonstrating irresponsible behavior. This, in turn, becomes the normalcy for
these children and they bring these irresponsible behaviors into adulthood and the

Spanking a Child and Child Abuse
Spanking a child is not against the law in most places. However, parents who use it in their homes are
being accused of child abuse. The Chicago Tribune published an article that urged readers to report
child abuse when they become aware of it. In the article Child abuse in plain View the author
describes spanking as a type of abuse that happens behind closed doors ( Child abuse in plain View ).
Like most critics of corporal punishment, the author is trying to link spanking to abuse. The author`s
concern about abuse is a valid one. Abuse should be reported immediately. However, any attempt to
define spanking as abuse is wrong. Spanking a child is not abuse. It is an effective way of discipline
that helps guide the child into becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that parents do not spank their children at
all. They think that time out and removal of privileges is better than corporal punishment ( Child
Abuse in Plain View ). The AAP should know that balance is the key when it comes to discipline.
Incorrectly using any form of discipline can have negative effects. Placing a child in time out too
much may cause the child to become withdrawn. Constantly yelling at a child could cause a child to
feel angry or depressed. Spanking a child for every mishap could cause a child to be fearful of making
a mistake. The bottom line is that every child is different. What works for one child may not work for
the other. Some children respond well to time out. For some, a spanking may the best way to correct
unwanted behavior. Parents should decide what is best for the child, at that moment.
Parents should also decide whether the child s behavior is a direct challenge of authority, when
deciding which discipline method to use (Dobson 29). A child who decides to be an artist for the day
and draws on the wall is not being defiant. On the other hand, a child who continues to draw on the
wall after being warned not to, several times is being defiant. A child who does not clean up his room
should not be disciplined the same as a child who curses his parents. Corporal punishment may be the
best solution for deliberate disrespect. It will immediately cause a child to re think his

  • 5. Exploitation of Imagery in The Dead and Araby by James Joyce James Joyce, the author of both Araby and The Dead, exploits a sense of imagery throughout both short stories. Araby and The Dead both share and differ from each other in the ways the imagery is shown. The vivid imagery in Araby is applied to express feelings and expressions from one character to another. The main character, an unnamed boy, has an undying admiration for Mangan s sister. James Joyce describes the boy s obsession with Mangan s sister in vast imagery. The Dead also includes many senses of imagery, but shows kinesthetic imagery rather than vivid imagery. Kinesthetic imagery is an imagery that is portrayed through the movement and physical tension. In The Dead, Gabriel, the main character, dislikes the country of Ireland he lives in, so he flees. Throughout this, Gabriel describes how Ireland is boring and cold, displaying kinesthetic imagery. The Dead and Araby both include vivid imagery, kinesthetic imagery, and auditory imagery. Vivid imagery can be seen all throughout Araby. Vivid imagery is detailed writing that gives you a sense of an image while you read. The story begins with North Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street and continues to say, An uninhabited house of two storeys stood at the blind end, detached from its neighbours in a square ground. The other houses of the street, conscious of decent lives within them, gazed at one another with brown imperturbable faces ( Araby 1019). The way this imagery is used shows ... The following information and recommendations are necessary for the university to stay on the cutting edge of today s campus technology 1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Information Technology Department, UiTM Kelantan has indicated that wireless access improvements are important to students. Additional VLANs configured on these access points will require encryption (keys delivered through the authentication process) and will not be advertised via beacon broadcasts. In this model, when users activate their wireless network interface, the general use VLAN will be automatically listed as an available connection. Connections to other available networks (such as department VLANs) will have to be explicitly requested by the user in order to gain access. It should be noted that in order to provide a cost effective centrally managed service it is likely that wireless access points from a single vendor will be required. 3.3 Coverage Area The buildings highlighted in red represent where some level of wireless coverage will be available at the end of the project. Not all buildings will have the same level of coverage. Outdoor areas and main thoroughfares will be deployed depending on wireless access available in surrounding buildings Figure 3.1: UiTM Kelantan Campus Map [pic] 3.4 Buildings and Classrooms The Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Access Point will be used for this project. These access points will be placed on the ceilings of hallways, classrooms, and study lounges in order, to maximize connection rates. • 7. My First Day Of College College Freshmen My first day of college is one of the most important experiences of my life. The semester began on August 28, 2017. In that morning, I had plenty of time compared to high school. I overslept because I knew college starts only at 10 a.m. I had an alarm set for 9 a.m. Once I woke, I took a shower and got ready. HACC is about minimum 8 minutes away from my house. By 9:40 a.m., I was on my way to the Harrisburg Area Community College. I was full of confidence that I will reach the campus on time, but the opposite happened. It was my life goal to go to college, however, there came the complication because I was unaware of the incomprehension and unfamiliarity of being freshmen in college. As a former new student, I got a little lost before I arrived at my math class. Once I reached the HACC parking lot, I wasted more than 10 minutes going around the parking lot looking for an empty spot. While I was driving around, I felt very frustrating. Besides, I was running late to class. Unfortunately, I did not consider a full parking lot. Suddenly I remembered, when I came to college orientation I parked my car across a small bridge where a new parking lot was under construction. I drove there and found out they finished constructing the new parking lot. There were a lot of empty parking spots. I parked my car and quickly walked toward Whitaker Hall rushing to find my math class. I had a map of the campus, which listed all names and locations of specific buildings. In ... • 11. Short Note On Cutting My Hair I stood there with the dull, black, kitchen scissors in my hand opening and closing them in thoughtful anticipation. This was it. This was the moment I decided to be recklessly happy. I had wanted a haircut for a long time and now I was going to get what I wanted regardless of the consequences. On November 15, 2015, I decided to cut all of my hair off which gave me the courage to be myself whilst handling the consequences, and through it all I learned that my happiness was more important than making others happy. The decision to cut my hair was not a quick one, I deliberated on what to do for years. I first got the idea to cut my hair four years ago when I was twelve. I did not mean a trim or even a few inches off. I wanted a pixie cut. This was a shock to my parents because I had always had long hair. The most I had ever cut was an inch or two. They were horrified when I cheerfully presented them with a picture of the haircut I wanted. My parents had a stunned looks on their faces, and in unison they said No . I, for the life of me, could not figure out why they reacted so badly. I began to develop a plan. I would begin the process of cutting my hair by giving myself bangs. A few weeks passed and then I did it. I grabbed a slightly dulled pair of scissors, parted my hair from left to right near the front of my face, wrapped a hair tie around it and braced myself. I took a deep breath and placed the scissors right above the tie and cut it off. Six inches of hair fell into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Segregation Of South Afric An Outcome Of Colonialism,... The existing pattern of manipulated schooling in South Africa can be considered an outcome of colonialism, segregation and apartheid. In the early 1800s, the arrival of the British introduced the first system of education in Africa. The indigenous people of Africa were exposed to schooling under the provision of British missionaries. At this time, education was a means of spreading the British language, imposing their religion and just a general mechanism for social control. Their strategy was to civilize the black Africans and anglicize the white Afrikaners. And most of the school establishments were mixed, serving whites coloreds and Africans. However, the Afrikaners resisted European control in attempt to avoid becoming the lower ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Education s role can be molding a person for their prescribed field of work, and that is exactly what the whites conducted. They systematically programmed the Africans for work as cheap unskilled laborers and thus left the superior roles in society for themselves to fill. Clear ethnic and class stratification developed, and the government eventually adopted the view that Africans must fund their own education, which continued throughout the apartheid. Between 1910 and 1948, per capita expenditures on white education increased by 263% and African numbers in school plummeted to about 30% (Johnson 1982). Once again, limiting education was a tool to shape society for the benefit of one group the education of the White child prepares him for life in a dominant society and the education of the black child for a subordinate society (Johnson 1982). And in 1948, the Afrikaner National Party rose to power by an election victory, attaining further governmental policy control. The aim of the National Party was to increase and rigidify the segregationism imposed in the few years previous, and thus began the apartheid in South Africa. To facilitate the separation of all ethnic groups the Bantu Education act was introduced in 1953. And in combination with the National Education Policy Act of 1967, which stripped the provinces of most of their control over white education and empowered the Minister of ... Although there is definitely a friendly but high level of competitiveness between us, we have developed a habit of addressing building needs together in a more team oriented approach. Although we each think we would have won the challenge, we recognize that we are a power house when we work together and although it was very tempting to compete we knew that we would come up with the best solutions if we shared our ideas. That being said, below you will note the ideas that we have come up with. We categorized them into ideas that we can implement immediately and ideas that we may want to consider for next year s Info snap roll out. • 15. Obama Vs. Clinton And Burr Vs Ross Essay In early September, Burr was leading Ross with 46.7% to 43% according to Real Clear Politics. By early November, he was only ahead by an average of 1.5%. While North Carolina is widely considered a battleground state, Five Thirty Eight gave Burr a 73.4% chance of winning reelection. With the exception of a drop in the middle of October, Burrs chances of winning were consistent throughout the Senate race as shown below in figure 2. Although Burr was never able to reach 50% in the polls, he exceeded that threshold on Election Day and defeated Ross by almost 6%. In order to analyze the political climate further, I will be comparing the exit polls for both Trump vs. Clinton and Burr vs Ross. This will help explain why Ross was entering the Senate race with a disadvantage despite media pundits arguing that higher turnout in presidential election years should benefit Ross. Although Five Thirty Eight gave Clinton the slight edge to defeat Trump in North Carolina, Trump s was able to carry the state with a modest performance. Although Real Clear Politics had Burr winning by an average of 2%, that was certainly below the 5.7% final result. In a three way race between Trump, Clinton, and Johnson, Trump was predicted to win North Carolina by about 1%. The actual results, however, showed Trump winning by about 4%. Although this paper is focusing on the Senate race, it s certainly important to note the impact that a presidential candidate can have on the electoral map, particularly ... • 16. Heroic Qualities Of Odysseus Homer s epic poem The Odyssey begins by painting Odysseus as a brave and powerful leader and an impulsive decision maker who over time becomes more intelligent; Homer develops these relatable and heroic characteristics through detailed imagery and word choice as well as through symbols and homeric similes which amplify the representation of Odysseus as a normal person as well as a heroic figure. Odysseus s tendency to succumb to impulsive strokes of curiosity enables readers to relate with his inner character. The protagonist gives into the natural human curiosity to find and fix one s weakness. Circe tells him of the sirens who know the secrets of Odysseus s weakness, she also tells him that listening to their knowledge is unwise and he along with his crew should close their ears. However, in his impulsivity, Odysseus actually tells his crew to force him to listen while they cover their ears. Odysseus also shows his impulses in regards to thirst for knowledge when he sends two scouts to explore the land of the Lotus Eaters, knowing full well that their chance of return is unlikely. This quest for knowledge could have been in a slower, but more logical and effective way. This shows how Odysseus can easily succumb to less logical ideas if it is a question of his power or knowledge. Another constant in his early story is his portrayal as a daring and fearless figure, often taking control and triumphing over potential threats. Odysseus witnesses two of his shipmates be ... There is so much media coverage in politics today that in order to be elected one must be appealing to the public. Years ago the only way people could find out about candidates and the issues they stood for was by reading a newspaper or listening to the radio. Today, anyone can turn on the television or go to a web site on the Internet and see the candidates themselves talking about their issues. With almost all American homes having at least one television, a candidate must possess a good personality, plans and ideas. Now, more than ever Americans place excessive importance on appearance. This means that a candidate has to appear successfully, competent and inspire confidence. When was the last time a president was elected based on appearances? It was probably in the 1800 s with the election of Abe Lincoln. History shows what a great president he was. It sounds very superficial, but unfortunately this is true of our society. In the end of the novel, Kingston references another story Brave Orchid told her about a poetess named Ts ai Yen. Similarly to how Kingston rises above barriers to speak to her reader about how certain issues affected her childhood self, Ts ai Yen is able to overcome a language barrier to make barbarians understand her emotions through a song she sings. Most of the time my roommates and I use slang when we are just messing or playing around.
