When The Dolls Were First Sold, Mattel Used The Slogan
When the dolls were first sold, Mattel used the slogan We girls can do anything . Since then it has
been joined by similar phrases like Be anything. Do everything. and the more recent What happens
when girls are free to imagine they can be anything? The message that Mattel is trying to push is
that young girls will play with the doll, and by doing so will imagine themselves living vicariously
through Barbie. There have been many iterations of Barbie, and Mattelproudly flaunts all the
various careers that Barbie has had over the decades. Careers that include being an astronaut,
firefighter, nurse, teacher, and even the president of the United States. Yet the most popular,
perhaps the stereotypical image of Barbie, is the one first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Indeed, the visual image completes the unfinished words for you, filling in with pictures what
the words leave out (Lutz 528). Indeed, combine the thin image with the consumerist visuals of
fancy cars, enormous mansions, and you get a harmful message being pushed onto young
children. Girls would assume that along with wanting Barbie s house, they would want to
obtain her body as well, because her body is what a normal woman should look like. These
young girls are being shown this image as the ideal, more desired body of a grown woman, and it
would make sense that they would want to grow up to look just her. While thinner may seem
healthier, low self esteem, unhealthy eating habits, and other unhealthy consequences can result
from going to the extreme to achieve that thin body image. Now that it has been proven that the
thin ideal is being pushed on children, children as young as 5, one should know the possible
consequences of its exposure. When children are constantly being shown one certain ideal, it will
soon become internalized, which leads to behaviors that often go unnoticed by parents. While
these behaviors may seem harmless at first, they can be part of a bigger unhealthier problem. A
study was done where young girls played with dolls with different body proportions, and then were
given snacks to eat, this was the result, they ate less food when they played with the thin dolls than
when they played with the average sized

Causes And Effects Of Urban Sprawl
Introduction:
The word Urban Sprawl means more growth than the usual and the excessive nature of it makes
it different from the urban growth (S. Habibi, 2011). Urban sprawl is the major issue of the cities
all over the world. It is a universal problem faced by both developed and developing countries. Due
to urban sprawl cities expand beyond their city boundary, which becomes major threat to
sustainability and quality of life (Kaur, 2008). There are many causes, which contribute in the
expansion of the city beyond its boundary, i.e. population growth, urbanization, rising incomes,
single use zoning, and government regulations promoting low density development. The
population of the world is increasing and so is the demand for the urban land. In order to
accommodate the growing population, new developments take place, and the cities expand
physically. Many consequences are being faced as a result of urban sprawl. There is a great loss
of open spaces, forests and farmlands. Due to expansion the distances to the core of the cities has
increased, which resulted in automobile dependency and congestion of services and infrastructure
(Kaur, 2008). Oil based economies also increase demand for ... Show more content on

The city s built environment and its inhabitants were seen to be unique works in this process.
Urbanity then is both a sociocultural construct and a built environment construct. As the former
urbanity is a lifestyle or way of being linked to living or being in the city, it is a form of civic
culture that requires tolerance to difference. Through this lens urbanity is liberal middle class
rhetoric about quality of life in the city. As the latter urbanity is something that the built
environment delivers through its very physical fabric в”Ђ its architecture and public spaces, its

Application For Warehouse Allotment And Delivery Note...
Our project Web Application For Warehouse Allotment And Delivery Note Management , is
developed for warehouse management . They partition the warehouse , creating and spliting the
delivery note handling the opening and closing of the stock and also advance booking of the
warehouse is possible. Existing system: Warehouse is used to store lumsum or the excess
amount of goods . They are very useful for the manufactures , importers , expoters , wholesalers
and others who all need to store the goods and transfer or sell them to other people or durning
when the item is needed . The excess item or goods can be stored and it can be again used when
it is needed or when the item runs out in the market. All system which are currently are of manual
based procedures. The total area of the warehouse have to be measured manually , also if the
warehoue have to be partioned then even that has to be done manually . All the functionalities of
the current system are to be stored in a register file, maintaining those data manually and fetching
the data become more time consuming and very difficult task. In the existing system there is no
software to predict the total area of the warehouse and any method to calculate the total space
needed for storing the item in the warehouse . without knowing the total area or the size of the
warehouse , it becomes a problem for the clients to store their goods . Like if the amount of items
exceed the total space of the warehouse then

Abstract: I have selected the following paper, Streptococcus Pneumoniae Invades Erythrocytes and
Utilizes them to Evade Human Innate Immunity, to present and review for an assignment.
Streptococcus Pneumoniae is the cause of pneumonia and sepsis. Erythrocytes, which are found in
blood, contain nutrients that factor into bacterial growth. Yamaguchi et al studied the interactions
between S. pneumoniae and erythrocytes. The researchers found that the Iron ion present in human
erythrocytes helped the growth of a sepsis pathogen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While all of this information has been gathered, the behavior of S. pneumoniae in blood remains
poorly understood. Erythrocytes, making up 40 50% of blood volume (Yamaguchi et al 2013), are
a key component for cellular respiration. Erythrocytes contain abundant nutrients like iron which is
required for life in nearly all forms. In this study, the researchers provide evidence that iron in red
blood cells partially inhibit pneumococcal growth and that S. pneumoniae has the ability to invade
human erythrocytes, supporting their hypothesis. By using a neutrophile bactericidal assay, the
researchers were also able to show that the survival rate for S. Pneumoniae in cultures with
erythrocytes increased 3x. The results also display that the pathogen s use of erythrocyte
components enables it to evades the immune system of the host.
Materials and Methods: As describes in Yamaguchi et al, the researchers purchased S.
pneumoniae strain D39 from the National Collection of Type Cultures. S. pneumoniae strain
R6, which is an unencapsulated derivative D39, was provided by Dr. Shin ichi Yokota. The
primers used are given. Primers are short sequences of DNA or RNA that is used as a starting
point for transcription in DNA synthesis. The PCR technique is used in biology labs to create a
large amount of copies of a piece of cut DNA, specifically DNA primers in this

Rise Of Violent Crime
Overall violent crime and property offenses declined slightly last year across much of the
country, continuing a downward trajectory even as some communities battled disparate surges in
violence, according to a new FBI report. Robbery recorded the largest decline at 5.6%, and
murder was down 0.5% in 2014, but rape and aggravated assault ticked up 2.4% and 2%,
respectively, the report found. Property offenses dropped in each category: Burglary was down
10.5%, larceny theft declined by nearly 3% and vehicle thefts declined by 1.5%. Long one of the
most contentious parts of the annual FBI crimereport has been its count of civilians killed by
police. That count, averaging about 400 per year, has been criticized as inaccurate as it is drawn only

John Lennon s Influence On American Culture
The Beatles does the name ring a bell? All You Need is Love , Hey Jude ? The four members,
Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and John Lennon were idolized and known all
around the world. Everywhere they went they were huge influences with everything they said and
did. From the time of formation of the English rock band The Beatlesin 1960 up until his
assassination on December 8th, 1980, John Lennonwas a tremendous influence to society as an
antiwar activist and a musical legend.
John Lennon had always been a hardcore hippy while he was part of The Beatles, however, after
their breakup in 1970 and his marriage to Yoko Ono, peace and helping fight against the Vietnam
War became his main focus. He d explored many religions, but decided love, peace and music
were what he put his whole heart into. His lyrics were his feelings and his beliefs. In 1975, Lennon

money to rallies. (1) As the only solution the president and his advisors could create, the attempt to
deport John Lennon began. For four entire years, the Immigration and Naturalization services tried
and tried to deport him. The only crime they could use against him was a previous drug arrest on
October 18th, 1968. After these four years, the fight to rid Lennon of the States was overturned
October 7th of 1975 by the US Court of Appeals and Lennon s residency in Manhattan was made
permanent the following year.

Why Is The Congress Of Vienna Powerful
Congress of Vienna was not a forerunner to the United Nations.
Congress of Vienna
Similarities
United Nations
Established in 1815, in Vienna, Austria. They met to reorganize Europe after the Napoleonic wars.
They met to deal with the after effects of war.
Established in 1945, San Francisco USA. They met in order to pledge that they would never start a
conflict like World War Two again.
The goals of the Congress of Vienna were to pay back countries that had suffered during the
Napoleonic wars, balance the European powers, and enforce the rule of Legitimacy. This rule
reinstated all previous monarchs as the rightful ruler of their state.
They both had goals that promoted peace between the nations.

North Korea or the People s Republic of Korea was added so the UN could somewhat control their
actions and keep them involved in Global Politics.
The spokesperson of the Congress of Vienna was Prince Metternich of Austria.
The spokesperson of the United Nations is the secretary general Ban Ki Moon of South Korea.
The Congress of Vienna was very conservative because it was made up of monarchs.
Conservatives don t want change and monarchs don t want to be out of power so it makes sense
that the Congress was conservative.
The United Nations can be very mixed because of the number of different countries represented.
The key values of the United Nations involve lots of change and revolution so the organization
would be considered liberal even though not all the representatives are.
The biggest challenge for the Congress of Vienna was the reorganization and revitalization of
Europe. After the Napoleonic wars, they had to figure out how to make all the countries feel equal
to each other in power and land mass. They also had to restore themselves to power as the rightful
monarchs and destroy and rebellion against

The Search for an Alternative to Aluminium Based Vaccines
Reported incidences of toxicity due to aluminium based vaccines have always been a concern
(Clements, 1996; Clements and Griffiths, 2002; Edleman, 1997). Therefore, there has always been
a constant effort to search for alternative adjuvants. Polymeric micro and nanoparticles can act as a
delivery vehicle and along with their adjuvanting capabilities may enhance the efficacy of the
vaccine(Gregory et al., 2013; Koping Hoggard et al., 2005; Panyam and Labhasetwar, 2003).
Biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles have been studied as potential adjuvants by many
researchers but no considerable success has been achieved in this direction. Moreover, in none of
these studies, immunised test animals were exposed to the actual disease causing agent and
efficacy of the formulations was demonstrated only by the presence of anti tetanusantibodies by
ELISA (Johansen et al., 2000; Katare and Panda, 2006; Raghuvanshi et al., 2001). Absolute
estimation of vaccine efficacy should also be made by exposing the vaccinated individual to the
actual disease causing agent. Furthremore, for a vaccine to be used in pre clinical or clinical
studies, potency testing of vaccine should be undertaken as per WHO and/or pharmocopoeial
guidelines for ensuring its efficacy and acceptability (European Pharmacopoeia, 2008; Indian
Pharmacopoeia, 2010; World Health Organisation, 1990). In our study, the efficacy of the test
formulations was evaluated by ELISA as well as challenge method and synergistic effect of

Questions On The High School Girls
Readings: Bettie and Loewen
Question #1: Do the high school girls conform to these stereotypes because of peer pressure and
what they think they are supposed to do, or is there another reason? Although pressure to look and
act a certain way based on their supposed class places the girls in groups, teachers and the school
also played a role in this segregation and division. By separating the classes into college prep,
vocational prep, or job prep, the students are already being placed into groups. This limits the
opportunity the girl may have if they were to be placed in a college or vocational prep because
they feel they only have one option. This also limits the diversity in the groups, even though
there are some exceptions in the various groups. The school should have mixed all the supposed
cliques into multiple classes with different groups in one classroom. This would help break up
the cliques and promote more diversity among the girls. It would also allow teachers to reach
some students who may have felt pressured to act a certain way and avoid college prep, even if
they actually wanted to attend college. By separating the girls even farther apart than they have
separated themselves, the school and environment is making it harder and harder for girls to break
out of their supposed class and get to know each other. Several schools pride itself on diversity
because it allows them o teach in a different manner while encouraging all of the students that they

Nettle Research Paper
Nettle is a broad leafed plant that causes a hive like rash and burning (urticaria) after being
touched. The rash is caused by hairs on the leaves of the nettle plant. When you brush past the
plant, these tiny hairs break off on your skin and release formic acid into your skin. This also
causes histamine to be released by cells in the skin. Both of these chemicals are irritating to the
skin. Both chemicals contribute to the rash. The rash is from a buildup of fluid in the skin. In
severe cases, this may be followed by swelling in other parts of the body as well. If swelling
occurs around the eyes, lips, tongue, larynx, or hands it is called angioneurotic edema. Any allergic
rash, such as urticaria or hives, may be called nettle rash even... Show more content on

Cramps, diarrhea, and wheezing can happen with a severe allergic reaction. DIAGNOSIS The
diagnosis of nettle rash is made easily by the history of coming in contact with stinging nettle.
You usually know about the contact immediately from symptoms produced by the plant. Your
caregiver will also know from the history given and by examining you. TREATMENT Mild
cases can generally be treated at home. In more severe cases, you should consult your caregiver.
As soon as you can find water, wash the exposed area. The discomfort generally goes away
almost immediately. You may use an over the counter antihistamine (diphenhydramine) for hives
and itching as needed. Do not drive or drink alcohol until medications used to treat the reaction
have worn off. Antihistamines tend to make people sleepy. Apply cold cloths (compresses) to
the skin or take baths in cool water. This will help itching. Avoid hot baths or showers. Heat will
make the rash and itching worse. A paste made of baking soda and water applied to the rash may
help relieve itching. Calamine lotion and/or aloe vera applied to rash will give relief. Sunscreen

notably gold. Mansa Musa vast wealth was only one piece of his rich legacy however. When
Mansa Musa came to power in 1312 most of Europe was racked by famine and civil wars.
However many African Kingdoms in the Islamic world were flourishing and Mansa Musa played a

also a saying that every Friday when he stopped, while on his Hajj, he ordered a Mosque to be

Africa. But how did Mansa Musa become such a devoted Muslim? Pastoral North Africans called
Berbers had longed traded with West African with the Berbers offering salt for West African gold.
West African gold for salt may seem like a bad trade however salt is very important to the human
body because without salt, we die. The Berbers were early converts to Islam and Islam spread along
those pre existing trade routes between North and South Africa. The first converts in Mali were
traders who benefited from having a religious as well as a commercial connection in the North and
the rest of the Mediterranean. The kings in the North and East then followed the traders thinking it
would give them prestige. Islam then became the religion of the elites of West Africawhich meant
the Muslim kings were trying to extend their power over largely non Muslim populations which
worshipped traditional African Gods and spirits. As a devout Muslim he took a particular interest

Mandatory Government Spending In The United States
The government is trying to cut down on their government spending by changing the way they
do the census. As of now, they are spending 17 billion dollars on the preparation and the actual
census. With their new plan, they plan to save 5 billion dollars. They are experimenting in L.A.
right now. The plan is to send several notices to the citizens that tells them to go online and ask
them questions about the owner and the amount of people living in each home. However,
Blumerman, the director of the decennial census, expects 60,000 out of 225,000 homes not to
respond. These homes will get a worker from the census sent to them. In order to save money, the
workers will use an iPad to get rid of the costs of paper. The iPad is also a benefit because... Show

They are experimenting on L.A. now to see if there is any way to save money with a different
process. The census is done every ten years. The government counts the population in each state
to see if they need to add or subtract a seat in the House of Representatives. This allows the
people to be represented equally based on their state. Also the government is going to save a lot
of money with their new techniques. This is okay because it isn t one of the mandatory
spendings that the government has. It would be a discretionary spending because it isn t
entitlement programs. They will save money by finding new routes with the post office which
is one of the biggest government corporations. They will also try to limit going to abandon
houses. However with the prices going down, it may cause firing or census employees. This will
be hard because it is difficult to hire and fire government officials. Also with this new
experiment, all people who speak a different language will be able to be easily represented. This
will hopefully allow the house to be more accurate on who they are representing. The more
diverse the house is the more opinions and views the government gets to see. This is what
democracy is all about. The census is under the leadership of the department of commerce. This
means it is an umbrella style because the department of commerce branches off to the U.S. census
bureau, so it s not the number one focus. Hopefully with these new experiments gerrymandering
will also be done less often. The new plan for the census will not only decrease government
spending, but it will also help with

Satire In Lysistrata
Satire, Sex and the Role of Women in Ancient Greece
Aristophanes comedy, Lysistrata, uses satire to show the issue of war between ancient Greek
cities and uses women and sex as a weapon to explain the futility of war. Aristophanes was a
playwright, landowner and political representative in Athens born around 450 BCE. He is
considered by many to be like Father of Ancient Comedy. All of Aristophanes comedies show
commentary on the contemporary society and the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta.
The comedy that I will be analyzing today, Lysistrata, was produced in 411 BCE and involves a
sex strike to end the war. In this essay, I will show how Lysistrata reflects and satirizes the
dominance of males in Athenian society, show how the convention of cross dressing conveys the
message of male dominance and speculate how an Athenian society might have responded to men
dressed as women outsmarting men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of To Read Like A Writer
In literary education, from childhood to maturity, individuals are taught how to write not to
improve themselves as critical thinkers, but to fulfill the requirements given to them in a
prompt. Whether to analyze or argue, this form of writing has led to a cease of literary
improvement in students today, making many question the effectiveness of writing classes.
Mike Bunns, in his article To Read like a Writer , explores this topic and stresses the necessity
for young readers to critically examine the author s choices in order to improve their own pieces

To Read like a Writer Mike Bunns introduces how writing is a series of choices with an account
of his past as an employee at a theatre. As he was trying to concentrate on his reading, he had an
epiphany that literary works are all a series of choices (Bunns 72). He then transitions to his main
claim of how reading like a writer allows for the reader to determine whether or not to adopt the
same style as the piece that the text may have. He breaks this down into subsections that readers
need to observe before they tackle the writing, such as context, genre, and publication. Additionally,
he points out the necessity to makes notes while reading the

Employee Participation And Its Effect On Employees
As organizations face change they may have to deal with resistance from employees. Change is
often resisted by employees, the reasons typically are fearful of the unfamiliar, fear of loss or fear
of disaster, as well as behavior and political reasons. Therefore, it is vital that managers mitigate
employee frustration to ensure a business remains effective in its task or duties. Managers must
learn the necessary skills to make the change easier by using employee participation, organizational
communication, workplace empathy and support.
Participation is one of the most effective ways to subdue resistance to change within a corporation.
Employee participation is the foundation on, which a company is built. A weak foundation is akin
to having a house of cards, which can be easily toppled. Therefore, participation is vital in reducing
employee resistance to change because if the employee is participating higher in the organization
they are more invested in the company succeeding. Basically, when employees are active
participants they will recognize that the change will be in the best interests of the company. Which
in turn will help the employee benefit by improving their standard of living. However, participation
comes from motivation and it is a manager s job to motivate an employee. The unmotivated
employees will not feel the need to actively contribute in the workplace, which in turn causes
problems throughout the business and may cause it to unsuccessful in the future.

The Novel The Expedition Of Humphry Clinker By Tobias...
The epistolary novel, a novel that is written entirely in the form of letters, first gained traction in
the early 18th century. Two epistolary novels that encapsulated this style very well were
Dangerous Liaisons and Evelina. The similarities are also not solely in terms of writing style. Both
of these authors use the letters that their characters write as a method of deception to obtain what
they truly desire, even if it does not appear as such. Despite the divide that separates them in genre,
both Burney and Laclos exhibited this style very well as the authors used these letters to convey
their characters goals, intentions, and desires to the reader in their works.
We will first examine the novel by Pierre Ambrose Laclos, Dangerous Liaisons. There are a few
reasons why Laclos letters provided a sense of importance stylistically. Dangerous Liaisons was
not a typical work, as it was the first French epistolary novel to use more than one perspective
(Brittanica). As we know The Expedition of Humphry Clinker by Tobias Smollett was published
in 1771, had multiple perspectives displayed through letters, but Smollett was a Scot, and his
work was set in both England and Scotland. His work was never able to gain much popularity in
France. French literature in general did not implore this style; they usually followed a more
traditionalist model when it came to the novel. He was also the first French author to employ letters
that were not designed solely for reporting events.

Creating a Selfless Society
In the children s novels, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe written by C.S. Lewis, Harry Potter
and the Philosopher s Stone by J.K. Rowling, and Charlotte s Web by E.B. White we see that the
purpose of children s literature to teach selflessness. This quality will initially develop others loyalty
if it is continuously given to one another. Once loyalty is established, then a sense of responsibility
for protecting each other becomes natural. These traits demonstrate that the purpose of children s

These companions face many challenges from trying to win the house cup, to saving the
Philosopher s Stone. On this journey, the three children come across a chess game to which one of
them has to sacrifice their life to allow the others to progress in trying to save the stone. When
Ron and Harry get on top of the giant chess piece and play the magic game, Ron contemplates
their final move. He looks to the white queen chess piece and says softly, it s the only way... I ve
got to be taken. NO! Harry and Hermione [shout]. That s chess! [snaps] Ron, You ve got to make
some sacrifices! (Rowling, 283). Ron thinks that in order for his friends to move on, he must
willingly sacrifice his life out of loyalty to his friends. This shows the small group s growing
sense of loyalty for one another through all the challenges each of them face together. Hermione
stays behind with Ron to take care of him, while Harry continues on to save the stone with a new
cause because of that sacrifice. Again we see that, when selflessness is shared with people,
loyalty will soon follow. This shows that when a person is selfless their acts will be reciprocated
and this will lead to helping one another in a time of need.
Only after a person has established loyalty, a sense of responsibility towards one another becomes
natural. The author, C.S. Lewis, demonstrates this in The Lion, BOBECHKO 3

However, his/her perspective as a rookie may be different from the older and more experience
officers because of two major reasons, the experience of the real life that the officers have gather
already with their service and the new methods and technology learned by the rookie at the
academy because from every different generation, their perspective of ethics will be different.
Consequently, the two resolutions that the rookie possible suggest will be the idea that the police
officer is not allow to use the force unless the life of them or any innocent person is in danger.
The second idea may be to change the type of training given to the officers and a change in their
equipment for security reasons such as the protection of the officer and people instead of the use
of weapons that may cause several mental issues or broken bones or in the worse cases cause death.
The breaking line about when an officer should use the force in order to arrest somebody is
when the officer or any other individual is at danger of being harmed or become a hostage.
Charles V. PeГ±a gave his point of view to Samuel Lover s Rory O More idiom Better safe than

Opium is one of the greatest discoveries in the field of medicine the world has ever come across.
While its use dates to about 2100/3000 BC in Sumerian, the educated and controlled use of the drug
started in 1800s with the isolation of Morphine by Serturner. He named it Morphine after the
Greek God of dreams, Morpheus. Arab traders brought Opium and the recipe for its medical use to
India and China in eight century AD and it made its way from Asia Minor to all parts of Europe by

The influenza virus has three types: A, B, and C. Seasonal influenza epidemics are typically
caused by types A and B, while type C regularly has mild symptoms. Scientists have studied
previous years of influenza epidemics and are able to predict the yearly flu season for the United
States. In the United States, flu season tends to peak during the winter months. In other climates,
such as tropical and subtropical, flu seasons can vary making them harder to predict. Hong Kong

A Leader s Courage, Knowledge, And Wisdom
Introduction
A Leader s Courage, Knowledge, and Wisdom
The book Resilient Leader discusses many avenues of direction to promptly lead and organize. The
three components learned will be discussed in this paper are courage, knowledge and wisdom,
these three components have a congruent purpose that will be explained in this paper. The next
section includes strategies that organizations can use to improve their processes, to build up their
leaders leadership skills, and increase their performance. The last sections contain a biblical
integration of courage, knowledge, and wisdom, followed by concluding remarks.
Courage
Hoff, (2015) states that some of the traits of a courageous leader are able to face adversity,
holding everyone to the same standards, encourages feedback, ask peers and employees for
their input, and have the ability to foster change in an organization. John Maxwell stated that a
great leader s courage to fulfill his vision comes from, passion, not position (Hoff, 2015, p. 33).
According to the Blackboard video, there are many types of courage found in leaders, such as
mental, moral, emotional, physical, and spiritual (Dees, 2014). When a leader is in the midst of a
crisis and acts boldly, with courage, it can define courage as the ability to take the proper action, to
do the right thing, for the right reasons, in the most efficient and effective way for all concerned.

Gun, Germs, And Steel By Jared Diamond
Jared Diamond is a Geography professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has
many fields of interest ranging from physiology to evolutionary biology and biogeography .
Adding to that, Diamond also has published countless articles and authored multiple books. His
most decorated book Guns, Germs, and Steel , won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 and is widely
regarded as a groundbreaking scientific work.
In the prologue of Collapse , Jared Diamond claims that his previous book Guns, Germs, and
Steel focused on the buildup of societies over the last 13,000 years and his present book Collapse
focuses on the factors that cause failure and survival in civilizations all across the world2.
Diamond analyzes the breakdown of all societies through a unique scale called the five point
framework. This framework considers environmental damage, climate change, hostile neighbors,
friendly trade partners, and most importantly society s response to its environmental problems.
Every society he studies he applies this framework to determine a possible flaw in the collapse of
the society. The novel starts with Montana s current environmental problems and evaluates societies
as ancient as the Mayans and as recent as Modern China.
Unlike its award winning predecessor, Guns, Germs, and Steel , Collapse was not met with the
same success in sales or in professional reviews. Although still a successful book, it did not earn as

Memory and Fortune in the Odyssey
When scholars analyze themes of meaning in the Homeric epic The Odyssey, a common area of
focus is the significance of memory and forgetting to the story. One interpretation of the text poses
that characters being able to remember Odysseus brings about fortunate consequences for the
protagonist, while forgetting about him or his deeds leads to negative ones. However, the forgetting
of Odysseuss transgressions by the suitor s fathers at the end of the epic contradicts this as
Odysseus is spared through it. It is through the juxtaposition of Athena s requests for memory and
forgetting, respectively, at the beginning and conclusion of the epic that show the retention of the
memory of Odysseus by others is not inherently beneficial nor detrimental to him. Rather, memory
is a tool: a double edged sword that can either improve or worsen his condition based on
circumstance. What is inherent, however, is the tendency of events to progress, albeit slowly and
circuitously, towards the inevitable homecoming of Odysseus, his retaking of the seat of power,
and the return to normalcy on Icatha. Memory and forgetting merely serve as a means to achieve
that fated end, rather than being objects of meaning themselves. That the remembrance of Odysseus
by other characters helps him out later on in the epic is certainly supported by events that transpire
in the first half of the story. The action begins with Athena pleading with her father Zeus to release
Odysseus from his two decade

The Inspirational System Of The Respiratory System In The...
Research and Report: Module 1
The respiratory system is a very important organ system in the human body. Its purpose is to
transport oxygen to the blood where it can then move through the bloodstream to oxygenate all
parts of the human body. The organs in the respiratory system consist of the nasal cavity, pharynx,
larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. Each organ plays an important role in respiration. The nasal
cavity is the organ through which oxygen enters the body. This is the most superiorly and
superficially located of the respiratory organs. Located posterior to the nose, the nasal cavity is a
hollow space inside the skull that is lined with hairs and mucus membranes that help filter
environmental contaminates, such as pollen and dust, out of the air before it moves to the next
organ, the pharynx. The pharynx is located inferiorly to the nasal cavity. The pharynx is a
muscular, tube shaped organ that allows air to travel through both the nasal cavity and the mouth
into the superior portion of the larynx. As the air makes its way to the next organ it must pass
through the epiglottis, which is a cartilage flap that protects from accidental inhalation of food and
liquids. The next organ is the larynx which is located inferiorly to the pharynx. This is a short tube
shaped organ that is primarily constructed of cartilage. The larynx houses the vocal folds which are
mucus membranes that vibrate at variable speeds while air is passing through to produce vocal
sounds.

Jesse Owens s Journey To The 1936 Berlin Olympics
We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of
determination, dedication, self discipline, and effort. This quote by Jesse Owens shows that
nothing is impossible. Jesse Owens bravery and courage to go to the 1936 Berlin Olympics led to
less racial discrimination in sports, more blacks competing in athletics, and to more respect for
black people. Back in this time, there weren t many black people competing in sports. This was
because racial tension in America was at a high and many black people didn t want to deal with
it. But, then came Jesse Owens. He didn t come from a fortunate family so he had to work for
everything that he got. He went to school through college and made it to the Olympics despite
racism, all due to his determination, dedication, self discipline, and effort.
Jesse Owens was born on September 12, 1913 in Oakville, AL. Jesse was born into poverty and

Roman Republic And The Instigation Of The Roman Empire

to be a Caesarian section, a birth considered to be a bad omen in Ancient Rome. He was the only
son in his family, which gave him the responsibility of carrying out the family line, raising a new
and more powerful generation. This position of power was handed to him quite soon, at the age
of sixteen, when his father collapsed and died. He would soon after marry Cornelia, the daughter
of Cinna, one the most powerful men in Rome at the time after serving on consul for four
consecutive years (49). Caesar began a military service years later, which was considered a
beginning to his career in the public eye. He won consulship in Rome for the year 75 BC and,
being a master orator, gave an impressive speech that made the crowd remember his reputation (72
73). In 70 BC, Caesar, age thirty, had been married for fifteen years to Cornelia. They had a
daughter, Julia, but no male heir and no desire to have another child. He adopted AugustusCaesar,
his great nephew, to compensate for the problem. In late 70 BC, he was also elected as one of the
twenty of the quaestors, the public officials who supervised financial affairs and audits (96 97).
Perhaps years later, Caesar s history would become dominated with

What Is Henry Norwest s Life Like Life In The Trenches
Once he arrived in France it was a unique experience for him, life at the front was a new lifestyle
that he was not used to, but he adjusted to his new environment and was able to thrive. Life in the
trenches was different from anything Henry had ever experienced, it was not a pleasant lifestyle.
The trenches were filled with water and mud that usually went past the soldiers knees due to the
heavy rainfall. This lead to many soldiers getting trench foot a condition that occurs with extended
exposure of the foot to wet, unsanitary, and cold conditions. This was just one of the many
diseases that were contracted by soldiers in the trenches. Henry Norwest was one of the soldiers
who was lucky enough to not get any of these ailments. Henry s

The Original Tonka Truck Manufacturer
Remember when most boys you knew played with some shape or form of the Tonka Truck. I am
talking about the original Tonka Truck Manufacturer. With the end of WWII and the beginning of
Christmas 1962 the business of converting or supporting the war effort to something more peace
time related was underway. New companies were popping up across the country and three
visionary, entrepreneurs seized on an opportunity and Mound Metalcraft Incorporated was formed
on September 18, 1946 by Lynn Baker, Alvin Tesch and Avery Crounse. The new company
purchased a three story school building built in 1908 near beautiful Lake Minnetonka in Mound,
Minnesota. The business model for their new company was to manufacture closet accessories like
tie racks and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Tonka wanted to compete with the likes of Buddy L, Marx, Nylint, Structo, Wyandotte and
others, they had to diversify their model offering. To that end, Dump trucks, Wreckers, Semis, and
Box Vans all made their initial appearance prior to 1955. By mid 1955, Mound Metalcraft moved
into a new manufacturing facility that handled their ever increasing product line and an insatiable
appetite by consumers for Tonka trucks. Fast forward #100 Steam Shovel to 1982. (This is a brief
history) (http://www.neatoldtoys.com/history.htm)
A major blow to Tonka s Minnesota workforce, was that steel truck manufacturing began to move
from Minnesota to El Paso, Texas in 1982 with the transfer of equipment and production
completed in 1983. Then in 1991, Tonka Toys was purchased by Hasbro Incorporated, the second
largest toy company in the U.S.A. In 1998, and still under the Hasbro brand, the steel truck
manufacturing was completely moved out of the United States to mainland China. Therefore in
today s global manufacturing markets, Made in the U.S.A. takes a backseat if it affects the
bottom line. Forward to May 10, 2014, and the Tonka brand is still part of the Hasbro family and
is still manufactured in China. The once mighty Tonka brand has been diluted with small plastic
trucks. The original factory in Mound, Minnesota looks much the same as it did when it closed in
1982 accept it is home to multiple tenants. The factory in El Paso includes administrative offices,

PIE CHART
Pie Chart
Data Visualization for Businesses
A picture is worth a thousand words. The ability to graphically represent your business data gives
you the power to make informed business decisions quickly. (Microsoft.com, 2002) This
representation must be visually appealing and easy to understand. By keeping it simple, it allows
the broadest number of users to interpret the data, gain insights as to its meaning and facilitate
communication on the data ultimately to solve the companyВЎВ¦s problem. Data visualization is
the use of interactive, sensory representations, typically visual, of abstract data to reinforce
cognition. (Wikipedia.org, 2005) That in itself is a method or technique of decision making. To

In Figure 1 is the method used to create a pie chart and an example of one complete.

Problem: A pizza parlor owner polled their patrons on what music they would like to listen to
while waiting in line and eating in his establishment. He would like to have the radio playing and
needs to know what music genre would be conducive to sales and preferred by his patrons. Here
are his findings.
Sample size: 100 customers
Rap: 50 Alternative: 25 Rock and Roll: 13 Country: 10 Classical: 2
50 „i 100 like Rap = 50%
Then for drawing a proportionate pie chart:
Percent „i 100 x 360 degrees = the # of degrees
**Circle = 360„a
¡K Therefore Rap will occupy 180„a of the circle
1. Draw a circle with your protractor or stencil
2. Starting from the 12 oВЎВ¦clock position on the circle, measure an angle of 180 degrees with
your protractor. The rap pie should make up half the circle. Mark off the radius with the ruler.
3. Repeat that process with each remaining pie and drawing in their radius according to their
percentage of 360 degrees.
The pie chart in Figure 1 quickly tells you that the majority of the patrons like rap best, and the
remaining students prefer alternative, then rock and roll, then country and ending with classical
music. Simply and quickly we are able to see that the majority of the restaurantsВЎВ¦ patrons prefer
rap music. Pie charts work well when the values of

Buddhism And Its Impact On Buddhism
On one hand, Buddhism was founded in northeastern India from the teachings and doctrines taught
in the VI and V centuries BC by Siddhartha Gautama, better known as Buddha or the Enlightened
One.
Although originally emerged as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahmin tradition at that
time, Buddhism developed quickly in another direction and acquired characteristics. Buddha not
only rejected some important aspects of the philosophy of Hinduism, but also challenged the
authority of their leaders, did not accept the validity of Vedic scriptures and argued against the
sacrificial cult based on these texts. Moreover, Buddha opened his movement to people of all
castes, openly rejecting the idea that the spiritual affairs of the people were determined by the
social class into which they are born.
Buddhism is one of the major world religions in terms of adherents, geographical distribution, and
social and cultural influence. Its founder, Siddhartha Gautama believed in karma (cause and effect
ethics), Maya (the illusory nature of the world), and Samsara (the cycle of reincarnation) among
other things. Buddhists believe that the ultimate goal in life is to achieve enlightenment as they
perceive their existence.
So Buddhism seeks liberation from suffering, the goal is Nirvana. Once reached, suffering ceases to
affect the practitioner. It is important to understand that Nirvana is not heaven, or that the Buddha
as Arahant or referred to those who have reached full peace are

Chemical Reaction On Chemical Kinetics

Chemical Kinetics
Objective:
This experiment runs many reactions varying the concentrations of the reactants in order to
determine the order for each component and the rate constant.
Introduction:
Chemical kinetics is the study of how fast a chemical reaction occurs and the factors that affect the
speed of reaction.1 Reaction rates are the measure of how much the concentration of reactants
change during a given reaction.1 The rate of change of the reactants, Rate = О” [X]/О”t, is
related to the slope of the concentration vs. time graph.1 From observing reaction rates, the
overall order of the reaction and the rate constant can be calculated by using the integrated rate
laws. For a zero order reaction, the rate law can be written as [A]t = kt + [A]0, where [A]t is the
concentration at a given time, k is the negative slope, t is the time, and [A]0 is the initial
concentration.2 Using the same variables, a first order reaction can be written as ln[A]t = kt +
ln[A]0 and a second order can be written as 1/[A]t = kt + 1/[A]0.2 On a graph, these
concentrations are plotted vs. time, allowing the R2 value and equation of the line to be calculated.
The R2 value is used in determining the order of the reaction. The closer the R2 value is to 1, the
more likely that the graph displays the correct reaction order. The y=mx+b equation provides
information about the slope and y intercept, essential when determining the order and rate constant.

Essay On Don Quixote
Don Quixote is considered the most influential work of literature. It has been around for more
than four hundred years. It is still being read and it is a work that is dear to many people s hearts.
The story is mainly about an older individual named Alonso Quixana who lives in La Mancha in
central Spain. After, he read thousands of book about knights he started to go insane and decides to
change his name to Don Quixote. So, when he finished all his books he started to believe that he
was one. In this piece Don Quixote experiences love, morality, law, justice and much more. But,
reality and fantasy are two major points in this story. This story is very much related in the 21st
century because in society today people who have big aspirations... Show more content on

Especially those who grew up not knowing how there life would turn out to be. A conflict that
has been going around in today s world is Dreamers those who have immigrant parents that were
brought to the United States in order to have a better life. These people s dreams have been
ruining more and more each day because there is little to no hope left in achieving those goals.
An impactful quote that was said in Don Quixote was, I do know who I am, and who is in my
depth has nothing to do with your ideas and with your expectations about me (book) What this
quote is trying to tell it s audience is that sometimes our highest most outrageous goals sometimes
seem untouchable and we get scared when other see us trying to reach that goal. The Scientific
Journal of Humanistic Studies states, Being something, someone, having an established identity is
comfortable, but becoming someone is risky (Cun 3). Having a dream isn t unhealthy or
dangerous nor is being imaginative either. But, the population tends to believe that if you are an
imaginative person you are going insane. Which is not the case, this is the reason why Don
Quixote de la Mancha became such a modern character. He was someone who desired to become
someone, and to be able to metamorphose the world in a more favorable way. At the time this book
was written reality and fantasy were two completely opposite terms, no one had ever thought to put
those two together. Cervantes sure made a bold

Witch Hunting Process Essay
Matthew Hopkins of Suffolk played a key role in Britain s largest witch hunting history of 1645
1647 and led to the execution of more than 200 people. As a self proclaimed Chief Witch Hunter,
he had the ambition of detecting as many witches as possible in his area. Therefore, he was
traversing the eastern counties along with his co workers looking for the guilty. The selected
suspects, the criterion was having the witch s mark , subjected them to an additional test: they
were to sit for hours under observation in the middle of an empty room without the right to sleep.
The purpose of this torture was to see if an enemysaurus was present in the vicinity of the potential
witch, which would be the final proof of her guilt, but also to force her

Since then it has been joined by similar phrases like Be anything. Do everything. and the more recent What happens when girls are free to imagine they can be anything? The message that Mattel is trying to push is that young girls will play with the doll, and by doing so will imagine themselves living vicariously through Barbie. There have been many iterations of Barbie, and Mattelproudly flaunts all the various careers that Barbie has had over the decades. Careers that include being an astronaut, firefighter, nurse, teacher, and even the president of the United States. Yet the most popular, perhaps the stereotypical image of Barbie, is the one first... Indeed, combine the thin image with the consumerist visuals of fancy cars, enormous mansions, and you get a harmful message being pushed onto young children. Girls would assume that along with wanting Barbie s house, they would want to obtain her body as well, because her body is what a normal woman should look like. These young girls are being shown this image as the ideal, more desired body of a grown woman, and it would make sense that they would want to grow up to look just her. While thinner may seem healthier, low self esteem, unhealthy eating habits, and other unhealthy consequences can result from going to the extreme to achieve that thin body image. Now that it has been proven that the thin ideal is being pushed on children, children as young as 5, one should know the possible consequences of its exposure. When children are constantly being shown one certain ideal, it will soon become internalized, which leads to behaviors that often go unnoticed by parents. While these behaviors may seem harmless at first, they can be part of a bigger unhealthier problem. A study was done where young girls played with dolls with different body proportions, and then were given snacks to eat, this was the result, they ate less food when they played with the thin dolls than when they played with the average sized ... Habibi, 2011). Urban sprawl is the major issue of the cities all over the world. It is a universal problem faced by both developed and developing countries. Due to urban sprawl cities expand beyond their city boundary, which becomes major threat to sustainability and quality of life (Kaur, 2008). There are many causes, which contribute in the expansion of the city beyond its boundary, i.e. population growth, urbanization, rising incomes, single use zoning, and government regulations promoting low density development. The population of the world is increasing and so is the demand for the urban land. In order to accommodate the growing population, new developments take place, and the cities expand physically. Many consequences are being faced as a result of urban sprawl. There is a great loss of open spaces, forests and farmlands. Due to expansion the distances to the core of the cities has increased, which resulted in automobile dependency and congestion of services and infrastructure (Kaur, 2008). Streptococcus Pneumoniae is the cause of pneumonia and sepsis. Erythrocytes, which are found in blood, contain nutrients that factor into bacterial growth. Yamaguchi et al studied the interactions between S. pneumoniae and erythrocytes. The researchers found that the Iron ion present in human erythrocytes helped the growth of a sepsis pathogen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While all of this information has been gathered, the behavior of S. pneumoniae in blood remains poorly understood. Erythrocytes, making up 40 50% of blood volume (Yamaguchi et al 2013), are a key component for cellular respiration. Erythrocytes contain abundant nutrients like iron which is required for life in nearly all forms. In this study, the researchers provide evidence that iron in red blood cells partially inhibit pneumococcal growth and that S. pneumoniae has the ability to invade human erythrocytes, supporting their hypothesis. By using a neutrophile bactericidal assay, the researchers were also able to show that the survival rate for S. Pneumoniae in cultures with erythrocytes increased 3x. The results also display that the pathogen s use of erythrocyte components enables it to evades the immune system of the host. Materials and Methods: As describes in Yamaguchi et al, the researchers purchased S. pneumoniae strain D39 from the National Collection of Type Cultures. S. pneumoniae strain R6, which is an unencapsulated derivative D39, was provided by Dr. Shin ichi Yokota. The primers used are given. Primers are short sequences of DNA or RNA that is used as a starting point for transcription in DNA synthesis. The Search for an Alternative to Aluminium Based Vaccines Reported incidences of toxicity due to aluminium based vaccines have always been a concern (Clements, 1996; Clements and Griffiths, 2002; Edleman, 1997). Therefore, there has always been a constant effort to search for alternative adjuvants. Polymeric micro and nanoparticles can act as a delivery vehicle and along with their adjuvanting capabilities may enhance the efficacy of the vaccine(Gregory et al., 2013; Koping Hoggard et al., 2005; Panyam and Labhasetwar, 2003). Biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles have been studied as potential adjuvants by many researchers but no considerable success has been achieved in this direction. Moreover, in none of these studies, immunised test animals were exposed to the actual disease causing agent and efficacy of the formulations was demonstrated only by the presence of anti tetanusantibodies by ELISA (Johansen et al., 2000; Katare and Panda, 2006; Raghuvanshi et al., 2001). Absolute estimation of vaccine efficacy should also be made by exposing the vaccinated individual to the actual disease causing agent. Furthremore, for a vaccine to be used in pre clinical or clinical studies, potency testing of vaccine should be undertaken as per WHO and/or pharmocopoeial guidelines for ensuring its efficacy and acceptability (European Pharmacopoeia, 2008; Indian Pharmacopoeia, 2010; World Health Organisation, 1990). • 13. Questions On The High School Girls Readings: Bettie and Loewen Question #1: Do the high school girls conform to these stereotypes because of peer pressure and what they think they are supposed to do, or is there another reason? Although pressure to look and act a certain way based on their supposed class places the girls in groups, teachers and the school also played a role in this segregation and division. By separating the classes into college prep, vocational prep, or job prep, the students are already being placed into groups. This limits the opportunity the girl may have if they were to be placed in a college or vocational prep because they feel they only have one option. This also limits the diversity in the groups, even though there are some exceptions in the various groups. The school should have mixed all the supposed cliques into multiple classes with different groups in one classroom. This would help break up the cliques and promote more diversity among the girls. It would also allow teachers to reach some students who may have felt pressured to act a certain way and avoid college prep, even if they actually wanted to attend college. By separating the girls even farther apart than they have separated themselves, the school and environment is making it harder and harder for girls to break out of their supposed class and get to know each other. Several schools pride itself on diversity because it allows them o teach in a different manner while encouraging all of the students that they can achieve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This allows the people to be represented equally based on their state. Also the government is going to save a lot of money with their new techniques. This is okay because it isn t one of the mandatory spendings that the government has. It would be a discretionary spending because it isn t entitlement programs. They will save money by finding new routes with the post office which is one of the biggest government corporations. They will also try to limit going to abandon houses. Summary Of To Read Like A Writer In literary education, from childhood to maturity, individuals are taught how to write not to improve themselves as critical thinkers, but to fulfill the requirements given to them in a prompt. Whether to analyze or argue, this form of writing has led to a cease of literary improvement in students today, making many question the effectiveness of writing classes. Mike Bunns, in his article To Read like a Writer , explores this topic and stresses the necessity for young readers to critically examine the author s choices in order to improve their own pieces of work. Bunns effectively argues to his audience of college students that improved comprehension comes from focusing on the rhetorical choices authors decide to make in their compositions by tying personal narratives with repetitive questioning throughout his article. In To Read like a Writer Mike Bunns introduces how writing is a series of choices with an account of his past as an employee at a theatre. As he was trying to concentrate on his reading, he had an epiphany that literary works are all a series of choices (Bunns 72). He then transitions to his main claim of how reading like a writer allows for the reader to determine whether or not to adopt the same style as the piece that the text may have. He breaks this down into subsections that readers need to observe before they tackle the writing, such as context, genre, and publication. Additionally, he points out the necessity to makes notes while reading the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Change is often resisted by employees, the reasons typically are fearful of the unfamiliar, fear of loss or fear of disaster, as well as behavior and political reasons. Therefore, it is vital that managers mitigate employee frustration to ensure a business remains effective in its task or duties. Managers must learn the necessary skills to make the change easier by using employee participation, organizational communication, workplace empathy and support. Participation is one of the most effective ways to subdue resistance to change within a corporation. Employee participation is the foundation on, which a company is built. A weak foundation is akin to having a house of cards, which can be easily toppled. Therefore, participation is vital in reducing employee resistance to change because if the employee is participating higher in the organization they are more invested in the company succeeding. Basically, when employees are active participants they will recognize that the change will be in the best interests of the company. Which in turn will help the employee benefit by improving their standard of living. However, participation comes from motivation and it is a manager s job to motivate an employee. Two epistolary novels that encapsulated this style very well were Dangerous Liaisons and Evelina. The similarities are also not solely in terms of writing style. Both of these authors use the letters that their characters write as a method of deception to obtain what they truly desire, even if it does not appear as such. Despite the divide that separates them in genre, both Burney and Laclos exhibited this style very well as the authors used these letters to convey their characters goals, intentions, and desires to the reader in their works. We will first examine the novel by Pierre Ambrose Laclos, Dangerous Liaisons. There are a few reasons why Laclos letters provided a sense of importance stylistically. Dangerous Liaisons was not a typical work, as it was the first French epistolary novel to use more than one perspective (Brittanica). As we know The Expedition of Humphry Clinker by Tobias Smollett was published in 1771, had multiple perspectives displayed through letters, but Smollett was a Scot, and his work was set in both England and Scotland. His work was never able to gain much popularity in France. French literature in general did not implore this style; they usually followed a more traditionalist model when it came to the novel. • 31. Memory and Fortune in the Odyssey When scholars analyze themes of meaning in the Homeric epic The Odyssey, a common area of focus is the significance of memory and forgetting to the story. One interpretation of the text poses that characters being able to remember Odysseus brings about fortunate consequences for the protagonist, while forgetting about him or his deeds leads to negative ones. However, the forgetting of Odysseuss transgressions by the suitor s fathers at the end of the epic contradicts this as Odysseus is spared through it. It is through the juxtaposition of Athena s requests for memory and forgetting, respectively, at the beginning and conclusion of the epic that show the retention of the memory of Odysseus by others is not inherently beneficial nor detrimental to him. Rather, memory is a tool: a double edged sword that can either improve or worsen his condition based on circumstance. What is inherent, however, is the tendency of events to progress, albeit slowly and circuitously, towards the inevitable homecoming of Odysseus, his retaking of the seat of power, and the return to normalcy on Icatha. Memory and forgetting merely serve as a means to achieve that fated end, rather than being objects of meaning themselves. That the remembrance of Odysseus by other characters helps him out later on in the epic is certainly supported by events that transpire in the first half of the story. The action begins with Athena pleading with her father Zeus to release Odysseus from his two decade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its purpose is to transport oxygen to the blood where it can then move through the bloodstream to oxygenate all parts of the human body. The organs in the respiratory system consist of the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. Each organ plays an important role in respiration. The nasal cavity is the organ through which oxygen enters the body. This is the most superiorly and superficially located of the respiratory organs. Located posterior to the nose, the nasal cavity is a hollow space inside the skull that is lined with hairs and mucus membranes that help filter environmental contaminates, such as pollen and dust, out of the air before it moves to the next organ, the pharynx. The pharynx is located inferiorly to the nasal cavity. The pharynx is a muscular, tube shaped organ that allows air to travel through both the nasal cavity and the mouth into the superior portion of the larynx. As the air makes its way to the next organ it must pass through the epiglottis, which is a cartilage flap that protects from accidental inhalation of food and liquids. Buddhism And Its Impact On Buddhism On one hand, Buddhism was founded in northeastern India from the teachings and doctrines taught in the VI and V centuries BC by Siddhartha Gautama, better known as Buddha or the Enlightened One. Although originally emerged as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahmin tradition at that time, Buddhism developed quickly in another direction and acquired characteristics. Buddha not only rejected some important aspects of the philosophy of Hinduism, but also challenged the authority of their leaders, did not accept the validity of Vedic scriptures and argued against the sacrificial cult based on these texts. Moreover, Buddha opened his movement to people of all castes, openly rejecting the idea that the spiritual affairs of the people were determined by the social class into which they are born. Buddhism is one of the major world religions in terms of adherents, geographical distribution, and social and cultural influence. • 44. Chemical Reaction On Chemical Kinetics Olivia Isaacs C127 15 November 2014 Chemical Kinetics Objective: This experiment runs many reactions varying the concentrations of the reactants in order to determine the order for each component and the rate constant. Introduction: Chemical kinetics is the study of how fast a chemical reaction occurs and the factors that affect the speed of reaction.1 Reaction rates are the measure of how much the concentration of reactants change during a given reaction.1 The rate of change of the reactants, Rate = О” [X]/О”t, is related to the slope of the concentration vs. time graph.1 From observing reaction rates, the overall order of the reaction and the rate constant can be calculated by using the integrated rate laws. For a zero order reaction, the rate law can be written as [A]t = kt + [A]0, where [A]t is the concentration at a given time, k is the negative slope, t is the time, and [A]0 is the initial concentration.2 Using the same variables, a first order reaction can be written as ln[A]t = kt + ln[A]0 and a second order can be written as 1/[A]t = kt + 1/[A]0.2 On a graph, these concentrations are plotted vs. time, allowing the R2 value and equation of the line to be calculated. The R2 value is used in determining the order of the reaction. The closer the R2 value is to 1, the more likely that the graph displays the correct reaction order. The y=mx+b equation provides information about the slope and y intercept, essential when determining the order and rate constant. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Scientific Journal of Humanistic Studies states, Being something, someone, having an established identity is comfortable, but becoming someone is risky (Cun 3). Having a dream isn t unhealthy or dangerous nor is being imaginative either. But, the population tends to believe that if you are an imaginative person you are going insane.
