PIB
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the nodal ( เคจเฅ‹เคกเคฒ) เคฌเฅเคจเคฟเคฏเคพเคฆเฅ€ agency of the
Government of India to disseminate เคซเฅˆ เคฒเคพเคฟเคพ information to the print and electronic
media on its various policies and programmers. The PIB acts as an interface between
the Government and the media and the Information Officers serve as official
spokesmen for the Government. The organization is headed by the Principal
Information Officer at the national level. There are 8 regional offices and 35 branch
offices all over India for disseminating information. The Bureau at the headquarters
has a team of officers attached to various Ministries and Departments for the
purpose of assisting them in the management of the media and public relations.
The information material released by the Bureau in Hindi, English, Urdu and other
regional languages reaches to over 8408 newspapers and media organizations. PIB
also provides feedback to the Government as reflected in the media. Special feedback
digests are prepared analysing country-wide coverage of major happenings and
decisions. The Regional and Branch offices act as nodal information offices for all
offices of the Union government in their area and coordinate information and
publicity activities for them.

PIB has itsHeadquartersinNew Delhi.It is headedbythe Principal DirectorGeneral (Media&
Communication)who isassistedbyaDirectorGeneral andeightAdditional DirectorGeneralsat
Headquarters.Besides,theBureauhasDepartmental PublicityOfficersvaryinginranksfrom
Directorsto AssistantDirectorsandMedia&CommunicationOfficerswho areattachedwith
differentMinistriesinorderoftheOfficersrank and Ministryโ€™s size, importanceand
sensitivity.
PIB also runsa Control Room(NewsRoom)atHeadquartersto ensuredisseminationof
informationafternormal workinghoursonweekdaysfrom6.00pmto 9.00 pm and from3.00
pm to 9.00 pm onweekendsandholidays.
PIB has eightRegional OfficesheadedbyAdditional DirectorGeneralsand34BranchOffices
and InformationCentersto cater to informationneedsofregional pressandothermedia.In
additionto releaseofpublicitymaterial issuedfromtheHeadquartersinlocal language,these
Regional andBranchOfficesofPIBissueoriginal pressreleases,pressnotes,backgroundersetc.
wheneveranimportant eventis organizedbyanyof the Central MinistriesorPublicSector
Undertakingsina particularregion.TheseOfficesalso takeupthe decisionsoftheCentral
Governmentwhichmaybe ofspecial importanceto a particularregionforfocusedpublicity
throughinformationdisseminationonsustainedbasis.
PIB, Bangalore:
The Bangalore office of Press Information Bureau started functioning in 1954 with
jurisdiction all over Karnataka. Information is communicated to the media
through press releases and handouts, backgrounders (on important events and
issues), info-nuggets, information sheet, Do you knows? Features (illustrated as well
as non-illustrated) , press tours, media workshops. PIB also organizes seminars,
press conferences and press briefings, video conferencing during budget and other
national events. During important international events like Indian Science Congress
and International Film Festival PIB set up media centre at the venue of the event for
the benefit of media.
PIB is also responsible for planning and implementation of multi-media awareness
campaigns in co-ordination with media units of Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting such as DD,AIR,DFP,DAVP etc. PIBโ€™s other functions include Press
Review Analysis, newspaper clippings, reports on how the policies, programmes and
activities of the government are received by the local people as reflected in the
media, alerting the headquarters of such events that have repercussions on the
central-state government relations and the nation. Assistance is provided to central
government establishments and public sector undertakings for media facilitation
and for formulation of media strategies.
PIB, Bangalore caters to more than 150 newspapers, which include dailies,
weeklies,fortnightlies and monthlies both in Bangalore and all over Karnataka. PIB
features service is extended to district level newspapers in Karnataka numbering
more than 100.

PRESS INFORMATION BUREAU
Gateway to Central Government communication
ยท Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the nodal agency of the Government of India to
disseminate information to the print, electronic and new media on government plans,
policies, programme initiatives and achievements. It is also the Government's nodal
agency to facilitate private media.
Authenticity
ยท PIB is the authorized channel of the Government for information dissemination
National wide network
ยท Set up in 1919 as a small Cell, the Press Information Bureau has now grown into
a nationwide network of eight Regional Offices and 34 Branch Offices.
Wide reach
ยท Information material released in English, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Sindhi,
Kashmiri, Punjabi, Bengali, Nepali, Assamese, Oriya, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada
and Malayalam
Mode of information dissemination
ยท PIB disseminates information through different modes of communication, such as
Press Releases, Press Notes, Feature Articles, Backgrounders, Press Briefings,
Photographs, Press Conferences, Interviews, Database available on Bureau's
website, Press tours, etc. The information material released in English, Hindi, Urdu
and 13 other regional languages reaches about 8,400 newspapers and media
organizations.
Modern means of communication
ยท For faster dissemination and wider reach, PIB uses modern means of
communication like e-releases, dispatch of information through e-mail, tele-
conferening, video conferencing etc, besides conventional means of fax and hand
delivery.
Media feedback
ยท Functioning as an interface between the Government and the media, PIB also
provides feedback to the Government with people's reactions as reflected in the
media.

PIB Mumbai functions as the Regional Office for the Western Region.
It has 6 Branch Offices located at

It is headed by Additional Director General (Western Region).
The day to day operations are looked after by Director (Media & Communications).
Information Services
PIB Mumbai offers info- media services in Marathi, English, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu and
Sindhi.
The Mumbai office issues news releases about important Central Government programmes
and policies to print, electronic and new media operating in Maharashtra.
PIB Mumbai Features Unit releases large number of News Features on topical issues in
Marathi, which find high degree of acceptance in several small and medium language
newspapers. Important features are also released in English, Hindi, Urdu and Sindhi.
The primary channel of communication is the PIB Mumbai tri-lingual
website www.pibmumbai.gov.in, which publishes press releases, features, important
speeches etc in Marathi, English and Hindi.

Media Management
PIB Mumbai coordinates media activities of Central Government and Central Government
funded institutions located in Mumbai metropolitan area. The activities include
coordination of press meets, press tours, clipping service and media feedback. The Media
Officers also perform media advisory functions, as Members of Media Coordination
Committees of various organizations.

Media outreach programme
PIB Mumbai in collaboration with its Branch Offices and other Media Units of the Ministry
of Information & Broadcasting, organizes Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaigns, to
highlight people oriented initiatives taken by the Government. Workshops, lect ures,
symposia etc. are organized as part of the three day (earlier 5 days) Public Information
Campaigns, which are held at District or Sub Divisional places. An information exhibition
publicizing various schemes of Government is also put up in collaboration with the
implementing agencies of Central and State Governments.

  • 1. PIB The Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the nodal ( เคจเฅ‹เคกเคฒ) เคฌเฅเคจเคฟเคฏเคพเคฆเฅ€ agency of the Government of India to disseminate เคซเฅˆ เคฒเคพเคฟเคพ information to the print and electronic media on its various policies and programmers. The PIB acts as an interface between the Government and the media and the Information Officers serve as official spokesmen for the Government. The organization is headed by the Principal Information Officer at the national level. There are 8 regional offices and 35 branch offices all over India for disseminating information. The Bureau at the headquarters has a team of officers attached to various Ministries and Departments for the purpose of assisting them in the management of the media and public relations. The information material released by the Bureau in Hindi, English, Urdu and other regional languages reaches to over 8408 newspapers and media organizations. PIB also provides feedback to the Government as reflected in the media. Special feedback digests are prepared analysing country-wide coverage of major happenings and decisions. The Regional and Branch offices act as nodal information offices for all offices of the Union government in their area and coordinate information and publicity activities for them. ORGANISATIONAL SET-UP PIB has itsHeadquartersinNew Delhi.It is headedbythe Principal DirectorGeneral (Media& Communication)who isassistedbyaDirectorGeneral andeightAdditional DirectorGeneralsat Headquarters.Besides,theBureauhasDepartmental PublicityOfficersvaryinginranksfrom Directorsto AssistantDirectorsandMedia&CommunicationOfficerswho areattachedwith differentMinistriesinorderoftheOfficersrank and Ministryโ€™s size, importanceand sensitivity. PIB also runsa Control Room(NewsRoom)atHeadquartersto ensuredisseminationof informationafternormal workinghoursonweekdaysfrom6.00pmto 9.00 pm and from3.00 pm to 9.00 pm onweekendsandholidays. PIB has eightRegional OfficesheadedbyAdditional DirectorGeneralsand34BranchOffices and InformationCentersto cater to informationneedsofregional pressandothermedia.In additionto releaseofpublicitymaterial issuedfromtheHeadquartersinlocal language,these Regional andBranchOfficesofPIBissueoriginal pressreleases,pressnotes,backgroundersetc.
  • 2. wheneveranimportant eventis organizedbyanyof the Central MinistriesorPublicSector Undertakingsina particularregion.TheseOfficesalso takeupthe decisionsoftheCentral Governmentwhichmaybe ofspecial importanceto a particularregionforfocusedpublicity throughinformationdisseminationonsustainedbasis. PIB, Bangalore: The Bangalore office of Press Information Bureau started functioning in 1954 with jurisdiction all over Karnataka. Information is communicated to the media through press releases and handouts, backgrounders (on important events and issues), info-nuggets, information sheet, Do you knows? Features (illustrated as well as non-illustrated) , press tours, media workshops. PIB also organizes seminars, press conferences and press briefings, video conferencing during budget and other national events. During important international events like Indian Science Congress and International Film Festival PIB set up media centre at the venue of the event for the benefit of media. PIB is also responsible for planning and implementation of multi-media awareness campaigns in co-ordination with media units of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting such as DD,AIR,DFP,DAVP etc. PIBโ€™s other functions include Press Review Analysis, newspaper clippings, reports on how the policies, programmes and activities of the government are received by the local people as reflected in the media, alerting the headquarters of such events that have repercussions on the central-state government relations and the nation. Assistance is provided to central government establishments and public sector undertakings for media facilitation and for formulation of media strategies. PIB, Bangalore caters to more than 150 newspapers, which include dailies, weeklies,fortnightlies and monthlies both in Bangalore and all over Karnataka. PIB features service is extended to district level newspapers in Karnataka numbering more than 100. PRESS INFORMATION BUREAU Gateway to Central Government communication ยท Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the nodal agency of the Government of India to disseminate information to the print, electronic and new media on government plans, policies, programme initiatives and achievements. It is also the Government's nodal agency to facilitate private media. Authenticity ยท PIB is the authorized channel of the Government for information dissemination National wide network ยท Set up in 1919 as a small Cell, the Press Information Bureau has now grown into a nationwide network of eight Regional Offices and 34 Branch Offices. Wide reach ยท Information material released in English, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Bengali, Nepali, Assamese, Oriya, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam Mode of information dissemination ยท PIB disseminates information through different modes of communication, such as Press Releases, Press Notes, Feature Articles, Backgrounders, Press Briefings, Photographs, Press Conferences, Interviews, Database available on Bureau's website, Press tours, etc. The information material released in English, Hindi, Urdu and 13 other regional languages reaches about 8,400 newspapers and media organizations. Modern means of communication ยท For faster dissemination and wider reach, PIB uses modern means of communication like e-releases, dispatch of information through e-mail, tele- conferening, video conferencing etc, besides conventional means of fax and hand delivery.
  • 4. Media feedback ยท Functioning as an interface between the Government and the media, PIB also provides feedback to the Government with people's reactions as reflected in the media. Major activities: ยท Public Information Campaigns on Flagship Programmes of the Government in various parts of the country. ยท Election coverage ยท Media coverage of the General Budget and the Railway Budget ยท Economic Editor's Conference in New Delhi ยท Editor's Conference on Social Sector issues ยท Editor's Conference with special focus on North East ยท Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. ยท International Film Festival of India, Goa ยท Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Animation and Short Films PIB Mumbai PIB Mumbai functions as the Regional Office for the Western Region. It has 6 Branch Offices located at ๏‚ท Pune, Nagpur, Nanded ๏‚ท Panaji ๏‚ท Ahmedabad & Rajkot It is headed by Additional Director General (Western Region). The day to day operations are looked after by Director (Media & Communications). Information Services PIB Mumbai offers info- media services in Marathi, English, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu and Sindhi. The Mumbai office issues news releases about important Central Government programmes and policies to print, electronic and new media operating in Maharashtra. PIB Mumbai Features Unit releases large number of News Features on topical issues in Marathi, which find high degree of acceptance in several small and medium language newspapers. Important features are also released in English, Hindi, Urdu and Sindhi. The primary channel of communication is the PIB Mumbai tri-lingual

Workshops, lect ures, symposia etc. are organized as part of the three day (earlier 5 days) Public Information Campaigns, which are held at District or Sub Divisional places. An information exhibition publicizing various schemes of Government is also put up in collaboration with the implementing agencies of Central and State Governments.
