The document discusses the physiological and anatomical view of Grahani according to Ayurveda and its correlation to modern anatomy. It begins by discussing different opinions on Grahani's location from ancient Ayurvedic texts. It then correlates Grahani to the small intestine based on its description in texts and location between the stomach and large intestine. The four layers of the intestine are described along with their functions. Finally, the applied clinical aspects of disorders related to each layer are discussed.

3. Introduction
Grahani is the specialized part of the
Mahasrotas. It is the site of the pittadara
kala, it is considered as the site of the
Pachaka pitta which help for the ahara
pachana

4. According to Acharyas
Sushrutha
• The 6th Pittadhara Kala is
situated in between the
Amashaya and Pakwashaya
.
Charaka
• It is the part situated above
the Nabhi,it is the site of
Agni and does Grahana of
Anna and it is supported
and nourished by the
strength of Agni .

5. Anatomical coreelation of Grahani as
small intestine
Grahani is said to be situated above the
Nabi(umbilicus) and between the
Amashaya(stomach) and Pakwashaya(large
intestine). It is the site of Agni.
Small Intestine is the part of GI tract extending
between the Pyloric Sphincters of Stomach
and Ileocecal valve ,which opens into Large
Intestine

6. Physiological correlation of Grahani as
small intestine
Physiologically it holds the indigested food for
the duration of its digestion before the kitta or
undigested food residue is propelled into the
Pakwashaya
The functional importance of Small Intestine is
Digestion & Absorption .Maximum absorption
of food takes place Small Intestine .

The entire process is conducted under control

Grahani we can say it as Small Intestine .
