3. Yoga students are dealing with human being
for health ,healing & fitness of human body
• Familiarity with the basic anatomical structure of
the human body.
• Understand various organs of the body with
their normal function
• Mutual coordination & their effect of anatomical
structure & functions for life.
Why there is a need to study Anatomy
& Physiology ?

4. Main Characteristics of Life Activities
Human body has miraculous organisational unit which carrying out its
work with smooth coordination & integration.
The study of anatomy is only given for Ayurved practitioner but also its
for student of yoga (Sushrut sutrasthan 3-17)
• Change in location & Size
• Maintenances of nutritional status
• Reproduction
Yogic point of view the body & mind is never considered 2 different
entities but its one single composite unit. Similarly structure &
function of human body is two aspect of one organism

5. Anatomy is the branch of biology concerned with the study of the
structure of organisms and their parts.
The term anatomy comes from the Greek words meaning to cut (tomy)
apart ( ana)
Physiology studies the functions of these body parts .
Physio =nature , ology = the study of
• The two disciplines are closely interrelated because the functional
role of a part depends on how it is constructed.

6. Meaning of Basic words/Terms to
understand
• Atoms - are the simplest level
• Molecule - Two or more atoms stays inside cells
• Organelles are aggregates of macromolecules used to
carry out a specific function in the cell
• Cells are the basic living unit
• Tissues are groups of cells functioning together
• Organs Groups of tissues
• System - Groups of organs function together
• Human body System - Organ systems functioning
together make up an organism

10. Physiology
Physiology is the study of the normal function of
cell, tissue, organs, systems and organisms
Physiology means
Physio = Nature ,
logy = The study of
Like anatomy, physiology has many subdivisions.
For example, neurophysiology explains the
working of the nervous system , and cardiac
physiology studies the function of the heart.

11. Types
• Cell physiology – study of cell
• Special physiology - study of specific
organ
• Systemic physiology – study of system
• Pathological physiology – study of the
effect of disease on cell, tissue, organ
and system.

14. The integumentary
system is the
organ system that protects
the body from various kinds
of damage, such as loss of
water or abrasion from
outside. The system
comprises the skin and its
appendages (including hair,
scales, feathers, hooves,
and nails).

17. Acc to Modern Science
Elementary composition
• Almost 99% of the mass of the human body is
consist of six elements: oxygen, carbon,
hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus.
Only about 0.85% is composed of another five
elements: potassium, sulphur, sodium,
chlorine, and magnesium. All 11 are necessary
for life. The remaining elements are trace
elements, of which more than a dozen are
thought on the basis of good evidence to be
necessary for life.

It was not the brain, as I always
believed, but the cells of my body
that held the information.
In this state, there was no solid
body, parts of my body had
seemed to disappear, and it was
pure vibration itself.
