This document discusses various methods of expressing the concentration of ingredients in pharmaceutical preparations, including percentage, ratio strength, parts per million (ppm), and parts per billion (ppb). Percentage can be expressed as weight-in-volume (w/v), weight-in-weight (w/w), or volume-in-volume (v/v). Ratio strength is another way to write percentage strength. Ppm and ppb express very dilute concentrations. Examples are provided for calculating amounts of ingredients using these different concentration units.
