Carlino, 23, stated, Who wouldn t want to go to the wineries with your girlfriends?
For some reason, I opted out and decided to go to work instead. The two women
met in their youth at summer camp 11 years ago. Ms. Carlino stated that Ms.

one as a nanny, and another at a cafe. She enjoyed making breakfast for her, Ms.

3. The Train Station
By the time I get under the cover of the train station, I could only imagine that my
burger and fries are now drenched and mushy. I decide against eating the soggy food
and throw it in the rubbish bin just before the steps of the tube.
I jump onto the steps and make my way to the top of the stairs on the landing. I
hurriedly push myself through the oversized double doors. The train station is nothing
like how I left it. It is now in complete chaos.
Directly in front of the doors there are flashing cameras, people yelling my name, no
room to move and microphones being shoved into my face. What the hell is going on?
ZoГ«, what does it feel like to be constantly surrounded by fans? Yelled the paparazzi.
It feels amazing to be surrounded by them, but not you guys. You guys just wantthe
next big scoop of gossip from me. I yell loudly over all the questions and try to elbow
my way through the greedy crowd.
It seems as I have quieted the questions and statements for a few seconds due to my
remark.
I fail my attempt of getting through the crowd of press. It is endless. There was a
whole sea of them waiting to prey on me.
ZoГ«, can you please pose for a photo? One man asks.
ZoГ«, how is your love life with your hunk going? Another one asks and so on.
Why don t you spend a lot of time with your fans?
Why are there scandalous photos of you on your twitter, if you want to draw in a
younger audience?
The questions flood my brain. It has all become too much. Streams of
4. John Donne
John Donne is the name in English Literature who gave new direction to the
literary activities of his age. He is in a sense founded the metaphysical lyric, which
was practiced by scare of writers. As Dowden says, We are told that in the decline of
the greater poetry of the Elizabethan period, a metaphysical school arose and that
John Donnewas the founder or the first eminent member of this school. John Donne
set up a new tradition in versification by and large Donne must be regarded as an
original poet, a poet who gave much more than what he borrowed from his age. The
word metaphysical has been defined by various writers differently. The learned
critics feels that metaphysical poetry is inspired by a philosophy,... Show more

Then comes a conceit which also expresses the passion of the lovers:
SHE S ALL STATES, AND ALL PRINCES I;
NOTHING ELSE IS. The most striking and famous one is the comparison of man
who travels and his beloved who stays at home to a pair of compasses in A
Valediction Of Forbidding Mourning . Here soul of the beloved is like the fixed
foot of compasses as by her inborn nature she stays at home whereas the soul of the
lover is like the other foot of compasses which moves beyond the center to complete
a circle of journey.
IF THEY BE TWO, THEY ARE TWO SO
AS STIFF TWIN COMPASSES ARE TWO,
THY SOUL THE FIX FOOT, MAKES NO SHOW
TO MOVE, BUT (DOTH) IF THE OTHER DOE.
In The Relique, John Donne imagines himself lying in a grave as a skeleton with
the undeniable token of spiritual love in the sphere of his beloved s bright lock of
hair forming a bracelet about his wriste borne and because of their great love, he and
his beloved will be honored like saints,
ALL WOMEN SHALL ADORE US, AND SOME MEN. Another feature is the use
of colloquial speech which marks the metaphysical poetry. In John Donne s poems,
the vigor of colloquialism is especially apparent in the abrupt, conversational opening
of many of his poems. He selected colloquial diction which has vigor, freshness and
originality. He discarded literary words and phrases which became rusty because of
repetition. Another characteristic of metaphysical poetry
5. Modern American Family Essay
Long has the image of the traditional American family been stamped into our minds.
The image of a perfect family has been a staple for popular television shows and
commercials hawking everything from luncheon meat to microwaveable TV
dinners. It is a far reaching concept known by almost anyone living in the country,
all over the world and people considering immigrating to the US. It is a fabricated
dream, which does not truly exist. It is merely a false goal, striving to achieve this
standard, and the aesthetic of the lifestyle is one which has been heavily marketed
and changes frequently with the times. Sports utility vehicles, pristine lawns, massive
backyards and home security systems are marketed as necessities for the modern

As a result, the daughter suffered in her formative years. She didn t have the money
to hire a nanny or a husband to support her while she stayed to take care of the baby.
Aside from being sickly, her relationship with her mother suffered. At times she was
emotionally detached from her mother and her capacity for learning was somewhat
hindered.
This situation illustrates a non typical family compared to the standard American
family.
A girl growing up in the traditional American family would be in a comfortable
situation. During her early months her parents could pay for child care that is not
sub standard like that which Emily attended. Typically, her budding relationship
between mother and child would not be severed or disrupted by the circumstances
created by other factors such as the mother leaving her child while she was
working. The child would be close to her mother emulating from her and learning
from her. Her mother and father are financially well off, so if the daughter shows
any signs of psychological trouble they can choose to send her to a therapist. For
Emily, the daughter in I Stand Here Ironing, she was mired in despair, forced to live
away from home with her father s relatives, stuck living in a repressive
6. National Security in Foreign Policy
Foreign policy definition: a set of political goals that aims to outline how a particular
state will interact with others
Beach (2012): Foreign policy actions can be undertaken using a variety of different
instruments, ranging from adopting declarations, making speeches, negotiating
treaties, giving other states economic aid, engaging in diplomatic activity such as
summits, and the use of military force
No matter which instruments are used, the primary objective of states in outlining
their foreign policies is to maximise their national security.
States can go about maximising national security through different means such as by
military force, economic prosperity and/or the general welfare of its people.
Difficult to analyse to what extent national security is a primary objective of states
theories of IR will help explain states motives and how they go about maximising
state security, if it is their prime objective at all.
This essay will analyse the concept of national security through realism (focused on
military power), liberalism (focused on cooperation through liberal internationalism)
and constructivism (focused on wider definitions of security, such as health and the
environment).

MAKING PROCESS Schiffman et al. (2011, pp. 460 481) maintain five steps of
decision making process which are: 1.Need recognition 2.Information search
3.Evaluation of alternative 4.Purchase decision 5.Post purchase evaluation These
five steps would be applied to describe the interviewee s decision making process:
1.Need recognition The interviewee recognized his need when his old printer
started to malfunction a lot . It is time consuming to constantly fix it and replace
things. He recognized it is time to get something new. He stated the printer mostly
just for printing and scanning but what he wanted is a multi functional printer.
2.Information search The interviewee did not have a specific band choice set
before arriving at the office store. He comes to an office works store to see what
brands they have and saw a huge package of HP printer placed right in the front of
the entrance with a special deal of 30% off the retail price. When he had seen that,
he wanted to have the deal. He then examined the price of the printer from other
stores and do more research on the internet when he got home. The interviewee
prefer searching for the type ( functionality ) of the printer first and then for the
price when he use search engines. His references are consumer reviews on online
blog sites and Amazon site, commercial Web sites as well as printer tests on PC
magazine sites. The interviewee marked the relative
8. Genesis 11 Mark Johnson Analysis
Ever since the tower of Babel, people have endeavored to find a way to unite all
humankind. In Genesis 11, the reason the world wished to stay united was to build a
tower to heaven and defy God s command to fill the earth. Because of their
disobedience, the Lord confused the languages of the workers so that they began to
babble to one another. More recently, Mark Johnson has attempted to unite the world
through music. As is indicated in several places throughout Johnson s interview with
Bill Moyer s, Johnson s theme is that music changes lives by uniting people in song.
This theme is summarized in Johnson s first words of the interview, I think music is
the one thing that opens the door to bring people to a place where they are all
connected.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Johnson said, We don t even know how long we re going to be in this world...
The most important thing is while we re here, let s make a difference together. That s
what Playing for Change is trying to represent. However, despite all his good
intentions, Johnson completely leaves God out of the picture. He is an advocate for
bringing hope to those in depression, but his hope is superficial. As Christians, our
hope is Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through
our Lord Jesus Christ... We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God... And hope
does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the
Holy Spirit, whom he has given us (Romans 5:1 2, 5). Playing for Change, while it
has good intentions, would have a more effective goal if they endeavored to bring
eternal hope instead of temporary hope. Unlike the tower of Babel, Johnson s
mission is unity for the sake of unity, instead of unity to climb to heaven. As he
travels the world, building schools and videoing musicians, Johnson s theme
remains constant changing and uniting lives through music. His tenacity can be
applied to any area of life as a lesson in perseverance, but especially in the field of
writing. When a theme is so convicting that it is worth spending ten years to develop
an idea, it is a theme worth writing
9. Scarface Film Techniques
The AFI movie I chose for a week 3 assignment is Scarface, this 1983 cinematic
masterpiece, starring Al Pacino, shows the journey of a simple immigrant from Cuba
trying to make his way to America, trying to find the American dream, after the
character Tony Montana play by Al Pacino tries to enter into United States illegally,
he was caught and placed into a immigration detention center, this is where Tony
Montana gets his big break by taking on a contract hit for a Colombian drug cartel
that can help him with his immigration status. The theme of this movie Scarfaceis a
fast rise and fall of a poor immigrant from Cuba, with goals and aspirations to
become a drug kingpin. Each scene becomes progressively understanding and clear
that Tony Montana goal is to become a boss, by setting into motion plans to make
his way into South Florida by any means necessary, Montana at this time has taken
on hit man jobs and started paddling narcotics for himself and his crew, I feel as
though the first scenes Tony Montana s cocky attitude broken English and demeanor
and disposition towards the police, introduced us to who Tony Montana was, at one
point in this filmTony Montana talks about Humphrey Bogart and a few other actors
that portrayed gangsters and gangster life style, he seemed to be admiring the
gangster life style, in this scene you can almost see the admiration within his eyes as
he was telling the a story about them. This scene was brought to light by the
cinematographer who created a dim but dynamic lighting setting, the focal point was
directly on Al Pacinoas he was telling his story, the effective framing and captivating
way that Al Pacino portrays his character. There was another scene in Scarface

Throughout the school year, they have a handful of nights where the parents can
bring the student and socialize and get to know others. Parents are always welcome
to volunteer and help out during the day in the classroom. While these are great ways
to include parents in their child s education, Joyce Epstein of Johns Hopkins
University mentions 6 levels of involvement. The first level is parenting, teachers
should help establish a home environment that supports learning for the child.
Secondly, communicating from school to home and home to school. Some different
ways to do this are phone calls, newsletters, and emails. The next level is
volunteering. Teachers should not only promote but ask for family support in and out
of the classroom. Learning at home is the fourth level of parent involvement. Teachers
should include information about what their child is learning and how they can help
with the child s reading and homework and what needs to be improved. Fifthly,
teachers should include parents in school decisions and create family organizations
such as PTA. Lastly, teachers should collaborate with the community and provide
information about community health, cultural, social support, and other programs or
services. (Weissman and Hendrick 49 50). By communicating about community
cultural services, I believe that it shows that a teacher shows interest in the familys
culture. Establishing a good relationship
11. The Education Of Schools And Schools Essay
Many schools in America are divided by cities and districts which locks in certain
students for specific schools. Some of these schools are well provided, and others
are not due to the income of that district which the students live in. These borders
for schools causes a problem in which certain educational tools and experience are
restricted for those individuals who have a low income. The inadequate funding of
schools for certain districts throughout Americahave been a problematic
enforcement of disparity. This continues to promote the ideas of racism,
segregation, and social class by isolating schools based off the income and having
certain limitations due to ethnicity. In order to change the things for the better, we
must bring awareness to this problem and work towards equal funding of schools.
Mickelson and Smith state There is a strong relationship between race and social
class, and racial isolation is often an outgrowth of residential segregation and
socioeconomic background (Mickelson and smith 2011) Schools are one of the
foundations in which society is formed through thegain of knowledge and
experience. If we are simply segregating the distribution of certain knowledge due to
the income of a person, we are restricting the right for a person to obtain equal
knowledge. With the educationsystem being constricted due to the income of the
student s family, they are unable to fulfill their grasp of knowledge in comparison to
the schools of a wealthier district.

BCG Matrix
The BCG matrix is a model developed via the Boston Consultancy group within the
early 1970 s. It is a good known device for an advertising manager. It s based on the
commentary that a company s business models can be categorized into four
important categories centered on combos of market development and market share,
for this hence the name growth share matrix. Market progress represents the industry
attractive attractiveness, and market share stands for competitive knowledge. This
helps the advertising manager allocate resources and is used as an analytical device
in company advertising and marketing, product administration, strategic management
and so forth. The basic idea in the back of the BCG matrix is that if a product has a
greater market share, or if the product s market grows faster, it is higher for the
company. Products are classified into four distinct groups, Stars, Cash Cows,
Problem Child and Dog. Let s have a look at what each one means for the product
and the decision making process
Dogs (Low share, Low growth)
Dogs have low market share and a low progress rate and accordingly neither
generate nor consume a significant sum of money. However, dogs are cash traps
because of the money tied up in a trade that has little competencies. Such companies
are candidates for divestiture.
Star (High share and High growth)
Stars function in high growth industries and maintain very high market share. Stars
are both cash generators and cash users. They
13. Looking Below the Surface of Hamlet Essay
The mystery of Shakespeare s Hamlet is a phantom that has haunted students
throughout the centuries. Hamlet is a complete enigma; a puzzle students have tried
to piece together since his introduction into the school curriculum. Throughout the
course of Hamlet, the student is constantly striving to rationalize Hamlets odd
behavior, through the play s written text. In doing so, many students mistakenly draw
their conclusions based on the surface content of Hamlet s statements and actions.
When drawing into question Hamlet s actions as well as his reasons for acting, many
assume that Hamlet himself is fully aware of his own motives. This assumption in
itself produces the very matter in question. Take for example Hamlet s... Show more

The key to understanding Hamlet lies in the realization of the unconscious energy
that provokes him to action and inaction. By channeling into Hamlet s unconscious,
providing both Freudian and Jungian psychoanalytical perspectives, Hamlet s true
unconscious motivation will be uncovered, and the mystery of Hamlet will be
silenced.
The term consciousness refers to one s awareness of internal and external stimuli. The
unconscious contains thoughts, memories, and desires that are well below the
surface of awareness but that nonetheless exert great influence on behavior. (Weiten)
Jung and Freud agree upon the existence of the unconscious, but their perspectives
are vastly different. The core of the Freudian perspective is centered around Hamlet s
relationship with his mother, and the aforementioned example concerning Hamlet
and King Claudius. According to the Freudian view, Hamlet is driven by unconscious
sexual desire and aggravation. This sexual aggression is directed towards his mother
and Claudius.
The overall analysis of Hamlet s behavior is represented in Jones statement, So far
as I can see, there is no escape from the conclusion that the cause of Hamlet s
hesitancy lies in some unconscious source of repugnance to his task When Hamlet
first hears the ghost s call for revenge, he answers:

15. Pullman Strike Research Paper
Emily Mr. Ten Eyck US History 1 19 14 The Pullman Strike The Pullman Strike of
1894 affected worker s rights in a positive way. The Pullman Strike strike was
named after George Pullman. George Pullman was a man who became rich off of
his manufacturing of sleeper and luxury railcars (Lawrence). Pullman was so
successful that he had a city named after him, which he owned. In the panic of
1893, Pullman s revenue dropped because of the lessened demand for his cars
(McNamara). Because of this drop in revenue, Pullman cut the wages of his workers,
but kept the rent the same. Worker s became outraged because they couldn t afford
these changes. Pullman refused to negotiate with his workers, which caused the
American Railway Union, lead by Eugene Debs, to take action (McNamara). This
union consisted of over 260,000 workers nationwide to participate in the strike.
Worker s supported the ARU by not moving trains with Pullman cars (Ginger). This

But, even though Pullman didn t make any changes, the strike influenced that way
the public viewed worker s rights and the role of management and mediation of labor

strike was split. The western and southern part of America generally supported the
strike while the east generally opposed it (H.W.). But people began to question the
amount of control of the government after President Cleveland sent in troops to shut
down the strikes. 30 died and 57 were injured (Lawrence). Using military forces to
union bust was a milestone in American history. Besides the Homestead strike two
years earlier, the Pullman strike was first to be shut down violently by the military
(Levitt). After these event, public opinion changed. The majority did not support the
government and Pullman, and when Pullman died in 1897, people were said to have

hostile military, which begin to target priests. Romero was passive at first, afraid of

STOP! We re human beings, we re human beings! (Romero, 1.26:12). With all of
the effort that he puts in, Romero could not physically do anything being trapped
inside his jail cell. In this situation, Romero hears a desperate cry for help evoking
a reaction inside him to help his fellow man. By not being able to really do
anything, somehow, Romero was being tortured as well: by not being able to do
anything but listen to a man be subjected to such horrid pain. The response that
Romero felt was person and his action automatic causing him to act ethically. The
ethical experience of the beggar explains the experience of the other. The
experience begins with the face of someone in need of help. Something occurs
while face to face with the other, it evokes a person reaction and typically exposes
as desire to help whomever is in need. Face to face encounters with the other are
ethical as they remind each person of their responsibility to the other. See someone
in need, evokes a deep emotional response and makes one responsible; the face
stays with them, it invades their consciousness. Romero feels the experience of the
other when sitting down with the poor discussing all of the missing and murdered
family members. He looks upon each person s face and see a community desperately
in need. It is in this scene that Romero looks upon the faces of his community, faces
filled with grief and agony, it is then that he realizes that he must help these people

18. The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights movement is one of the most important acts to change the way
not only African Americans were able to live their lives but all races and colors. It
would slowly break down the social, economic, political, and racial barriers that
were created by the The Age of Discovery and Transatlantic Slave trade. I believe
without the Civil Rights acts our country would result to be no better than what it
was when the Emancipation Proclamation just took effect. In the 1950s and long
before, Southern folk, who were white had created a system that would interpret
them as a superior race over blacks. The system would defend whites rights and
privileges from being taken away from them while establishing terrible inhumane
suffering for African Americans. In the South blacks were controlled in all aspects
economic, political, and personal, this was called a tripartite system of domination
(Aldon D. Morris) (6) Though it isn t as prevalent racismand discriminationtowards
other races that aren t white is still found in America and can be in schools, the
workplace, even when you are in the general public but you no longer see
discriminating signs saying Whites or Blacks or Colored along the front of
bathroom, restaurants, and shopping malls doors. Nor do you see people being

19. Relationships In George Eliot s Middlemarch
Relationships are always undoubtedly complex and dysfunctional. George Eliot, in
this excerpt from the novel Middlemarch, thoroughly portrays many of these
intricacies of relationships through a husband and a wife: Rosamond and Tertius
Lydgate. This relationship s dysfunctionalities are revealed through a financial conflict
which brings to light their underlying thoughts toward each other. Eliot makes certain
to portray Tertius as the dominant and strategically manipulative character while
Rosamond is the weak, ignorant and oblivious one. Through these distinct
personalities, Eliot shows how these characters react oppositely to each other when
they clash from an economic struggle, stemming from a small disagreement. Eliot

Rosamond consequently reacts by returning To the chair by his side (52). This

and his argument although she may still disagree with it. Although Eliot is able to
convey Rosamond and Tertius subtle reactions between each other through body
language and movement, the third person omniscient perspective allows him to delve
into the more underlying conflicts between each other, one specifically being Tertius
struggle in feeling superior to Rosamond, and his strategic reactions because of it.
In having a third person omniscient narrator, the unbiased observations into Tertius
psyche allows the reader to truly understand his intentions. After Tertius initial
inciting statement causing Rosamond to tear up, Tertius inner thoughts reveal his
feeling of superiority to Rosamond. He did wish to spare her as much as he could

and more like a child than an adult he is conversing with. This causes his
subsequent apology ( It is I who have been in fault; I ought to have seen that I could

21. Hidden Water Leak
5 Signs Your Home Might Have A Hidden Water Leak
It s a frightening thought, but you could have a leak in your plumbing and not
realize it. If the leak is just a tiny hole, water can leak out all day long and gradually
increase your water bill so it isn t as noticeable as a sudden sky high bill due to a line
rupture.
Although the leak may be small when water pours between your walls or under the
floor every day it can do a lot of damage. Besides keeping an eye on your water
meter and closely examining your water bill each month, there are other signs you
can stay alerted to that signal a water leak and possible water damage to your home.
Here are some things to watch for.

If an outdoor line is leaking, there could be a soggy area in your yard. The grass may
be lush and greener in one spot where the water is leaking.
There could also be sinking above the leak which might cause your driveway or
walkway to dip. If an indoor pipe is leaking, you may see water stains on the walls or
ceiling. The drywall may swell as it absorbs the water and then begin to buckle.
The Water Has Sediment or Rust Particles
You won t always notice a change in water quality when you have a plumbingleak. If
the broken pipe is underground outdoors, dirt might get in the line. When this
happens you might see particles in the water or notice sediment in your dishes after
you wash them.
In addition to dirt, you might also see rust particles. Rust particles don t always
indicate a water leak, but rust does reveal the deteriorated condition of your pipes. If
they are rusted inside, there s a good chance a pipe is leaking or will start leaking if
the pipes aren t replaced soon.
Having a hidden water leak is disturbing because you have no idea where it is or the
amount of damage it has done. Fortunately, your plumber can pinpoint the leak using
leak detection equipment such as a moisture meter, thermal scanner, pipe camera, or
a sound detection device. Locating the exact spot of the leak is necessary, otherwise,
you would have to open your walls and dig up
22. Typical Australian
The Australian Identity I am here today to discuss our Australian Identity. How do
you imagine a typical Australian? Maybe you see a blonde haired, blue eyed
surfing babe? Or a bushman who drinks Bushels tea and four X beers while
munching on some snags cooked on the BBQ? Or perhaps you see someone like
Steve Irwin, our iconic crocodile hunter. Or do you picture the movie Crocodile
Dundee? Australians are stereotyped and our typical Australian is usually imagined
to be male. (Click) Russell Ward, well known author, portrays his view of the
traditional Aussie as a practical man who is rough, tough bushman that holds true
friendship and loyal spirits. Today I will be analysing two poems and one play and

the mood is exciting and fast paced with tense anticipation, leading up to the
exciting climatic victory. In this poem, women and children are marginalised. The
bushman riders are men and during those times the women and children stayed at
home while the men worked during the day. The Man from Snowy River is a
ballad which reinforces the typical Australian Identity, as the rough and tough man
who is willing to take risks and challenges. The hero in this poem is brave,
resourceful and thrill seeking, displaying the qualities that Russell Ward describes
as being part of the mythical Australian Identity. (Click) The One Day of the Year

23. Transcendentalism In Henry David Thoreau s A Curtain Of
Green
Why should we live with such hurry and waste of life? (Thoreau 6). Society and life
both intertwine and ebb and flow like Ying and Yang, in which one cannot exist
without the influences of the other but still act separately from one other. In Walden,
Henry David Thoreau, a passionate Transcendentalist, and naturalist, delivers a
scathing critique of Western society s obsession with consumerism and materialism
that progresses at the cost of the natural world, including humanity, which he
expresses through his spiritual experiences and oneness with simplicity at Walden
Pond. Eudora Welty, on the other hand, through the emotional grief of Mrs. Larkin in
A Curtain of Green, depicts a rejection of Southern women social obligations and
conventions through her unruly appearance and flawed behavior. Thoreau, while
living off a plot on Emerson s land, forms a Transcendentalist philosophy that guides
his spiritual experiences. Through those experiences, Thoreau launches critical
thoughts on the purposes of institutions and progress in societal and individualistic
affairs. While the expansion of technological innovation, like the railroad, fascinates
Thoreau, he criticizes the application of these advances if they are to destroy man and
nature for a grander capitalist greed. In Where I Lived, and What I Lived For,
Thoreau poses a striking accusation when he states, We do not ride on the railroad; it
rides upon us (Thoreau 5). Thoreau further develops the claim in his antithesis when
he compares the sleepers laid on railroad tracks to the Irish man or Yankee man that
laid the sleepers and died as a result. Throughout the extended metaphor, Thoreau
gives the reader a sense that the preservation of man is for the greater good rather
than turning a blind eye to the damages that progress brings to humanity. That society
cannot allow for institutions, especially industry, to usurp total control of society,
eliminating the individualistic spiritual aspects of man, aspects that are fundamental
to Transcendentalism and Thoreau himself. Earlier in the chapter, Thoreau mounts an
attack against the pettiness of institution, which he expresses through the critique of
the German Confederacy. Thoreau describes

26. A Research Study On Premature Delivery
Abstract Premature delivery is a significant cause of child mortality and morbidity
worldwide. It is particularly prevalent in the developing world. As HIV is highly
prevalent in Tanzania and much of sub Saharan Africa, it is important to determine
risk factors for prematurity among HIV positive pregnancies. The aims of this
study were to identify risk factors of live preterm ( 37 completed weeks gestation)
and very preterm ( 34 completed weeks gestation) birth among a cohort of 927 HIV
positive women living in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, who enrolled in the Tanzania
Vitamin and HIV Infection Trial between 1995 and 1997. Multivariable relative risk

Preterm birth is the leading cause of neonatal mortality.1 It is estimated that preterm
birth is the direct cause of 29% of deaths in children under 28 days and 11% of
deaths in children under 5 years.1 3 Prematurity disproportionately affects newborns
in resource constrained countries, where it is both more common and more often
leads to adverse health outcomes. A systematic review from 2010 reports that 7.5%
and 11.9% of births in developed countries and in Africa, respectively, were preterm.4
In Tanzania, 11%5 of births are premature and prematurity is the second leading cause
of neonatal death.6 In a study of hospitalized neonates in Tanzania, the neonatal
mortality rate for preterm infants was twice that as for full term infants, 26% versus
13%.7 Expending extra resources on pregnant women with risk factors for
prematurity could reduce the prevalence of prematurity. Not only would this have
immediate benefits, such as reducing neonatal mortality, but also it could reduce the
risk of chronic disease due to preterm delivery throughout the life course.8,9 This
could substantially lower long term health expenditures. The prevalence of HIV
infection among Tanzanian women is estimated to be 6.6%.10 Given the significant
proportion of pregnant women who are HIV infected in some regions of the world, it
is important to determine

6. It is widely believed that changes in certain macroeconomic variables may directly
affect performance of an equity portfolio. As the chief investment officer of a hedge
fund employing a global macro oriented investment strategy, you often consider how
various macroeconomic events might impact your security selection decisions and
portfolio performance. Briefly explain how each of the following economic factors
would affect portfolio risk and return: (a) industrial production, (b) inflation, (c) risk
premia, (d) term structure, (e) aggregate consumption, and (f) oil price.
Answer:
The value of stock and bonds can be viewed as the present value of expected future
cash flows discounted at some discount rate reflecting risk. Anticipated economic
conditions are already incorporated in returns. Unanticipated economic conditions
affect returns.
Industrial production: Industrial production is related to cash flows in the traditional
discounted cash flow formula. The relative performance of a portfolio sensitive to
unanticipated changes in industrial production should move in the same direction as
the change in this factor. When industrial production turns up or down, so too shares
in the return on the portfolio. Portfolios sensitive to unanticipated changes in
industrial production should be compensated for the exposure to this economic factor.

Throughout our class I have been shown many astounding works of art that tantalize

complex drawing of Da vinci and countless other artist that changed the world of art,
architecture and design. Though there was one work that we came across in class
recently that made me feel different compared to all the others i ve been shown. It
was beautiful yet disgusting, heavenly yet sinister, and more than anything
compelling. I am referring to a triptychpainting done by H. Bosch entitled Garden of
Earthly Delights .
The picture immediately stood out from the rest somewhat having an uncanny
modern feel to it. The piece is a 3 panel painting, also known as a triptych, The
Garden of Earthly Delights, oil on oak panels, 220 cm Г— 389 cm with each section
showing images of religion, damnation and over all madness. I was instantly

there is so much mystery and uncertainty to the work only heightened this feeling. I

30. Essay On Ageing
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
The golden age is before us not behind us
St. John.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Ageing is a natural process and part of one s journey of life in this planet. Ageing
in terms of biological process happens as the impact of the accumulation of a wide
variety of molecular and cellular damage happening in the body over the period of
time. This process causes gradual decrease in physical and mental capacity of a
person and makes one vulnerable for getting any disease and ultimately death (World
Health Organization, 2015).
Ageing presents both challenges and opportunities. Ageing is seen as a challenging
period because of not only the biological changes happening but the involvement of
various other factors like socio cultural, financial, emotional and other life transitions
which completes the process such as retirement, ... Show more content on

However, to ensure the quality of life and exploit theexperience and potential of the
rising number of older people it is necessary todo more.
It is necessary to take measures in various areas, in particular, changethe negative
approach to ageing of the population and older people that is oftenstereotyped and
ageist and provokes concerns that undermine intergenerationalcohesion and pave the
way for age discrimination. At the same time it neglectsnot only the potential of older
people, but also implications and possibilities ofscientific, technological and
economic development.
In order to improve the quality of life of older people and supportprosperity in an

And further, it cannot be neither a static catalogue of offences nor order of sanctions.
The evolving and transforming types and patterns of social and economic activities
are constantly calling for new penal controls and limitations and that new modes of
enforcement and punishment adapted to the changing conditions are not to be taken
as being equally within the ambit of parliamentary power is, in my opinion, not
seriously arguable. 9
In the relatively recent case of RJR Macdonald v. Canada (1995), the Supreme Court
of Canada, it was determined that the exercise of the power to make an act a
criminal one, a test is to be applied; one of substance, not form. 10 To be fully

33. Effect Of Change During The Post Independence Period
Chieftaincy has continued to experience pressures of change during the post
independence period. The introduction of the central government system in Ghana
interfered in the institution of chieftaincy and reduced much of the authority and the
power of chiefs (Boadi 2001, 20). However, despite these two major changes,
chieftaincy is still very important in Ghana. Moreover, those pressures did not affect
the religiosity of chieftaincy, which have always served as a hindrance to the
involvement of Christians (Safo Kantanka 1993, 53).

Today the notion of traditional practices like ancestor worship contradicting
Christianity is central to the discussion of chieftaincy and Christianity. For example
in Ghana home movies, traditional indigenous practice like ancestor worship and the
pouring of libation is seen as backward and unholy. In her article, Between Customs
and Christianity, Naomi Wellings states,
Many [Christian chiefs] had faced criticism from other Christians who believed they
could not carry out the various sacrifices or drink offerings to ancestors required of
them traditional spiritual customs which imply a belief in the spiritual power of the
dead to change life for the living and which some Christians view as idolatrous.

all traditional religious practices or denounce Christianity? There are different
views regarding whether a Christian can become a chief. The issue of concern

Is it sinful to be a Christian and a Chief? Should the church allow a Christian to

34. The History Boys And Educating Rita
The History Boys and Educating Rita have common themes running through the
spine of each text, regarding formal education and learning for self satisfaction.
The History boys tells the story of 8 academic working and middle class boys from
a grammar school in Sheffield whom are applying for Oxford and Cambridge
university in the 1980 s and are studying intensely to succeed. Their teachers, Hector
and Irwin have a conflicting approach to education. Irwin teaches the boys
specifically how to pass their exams but contrarily Hector teaching style encourages
learning for the purpose of obtaining knowledge. Bennett comments on these
differing types of education via the characters of Hector and Irwin. Educating Rita,
set also in the 1980 s and located in Northern England is about a woman who enters
the world of formal university education as a mature student on an Open University
course. She has never had a strict and authentic education as she comes from a
working class background, so she wants to prove to herself that she can triumph and
live a better life. Both scripts imply that formal education can be obtained, however
at the compromise of individual intellectual flare and distinctiveness. Initially in the
text, Rita and the group of boys both are unrefined, raw and sincere with their way of
viewing and analysing scholarly stimulus. However they both lose this quality as the
plays progress due to the education system moulding them to pass exams and not to
obtain wisdom.
35. Causes Of The Treaty Of Versailles
World War I was a major conflict fought in Europe and around the world between
1914 until 1918. In the end, the countries were striving to recover from World War
1 and were in need of a treaty to prevent any future war from occurring. The
countries came to an agreement and decided to create the Treaty of Versailles. This
treaty was made to end the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers, but
Germany was not allowed to attend the Conference so they had no say in the terms
that were discussed. The Allies punished Germany in the Treaty of Versailles
because
of 1) pressure put on the allied countries by civilians to discipline Germany and 2)
the strong feeling that Germany should pay for all of the damage and destruction
caused by the war considering they were a major cause of starting it. The terms of
the Treaty of Versailles caused Germany to lose everything territory, money due to
reparations, alliances, military control, disarmament, and worst their pride;
essentially Germany had to take full blame for the war. These terms were made to
prevent Germany from exercising such aggression in the future. In reality, what
ended up transpiring was that the Treaty gave Germany even more hatred to the
point where they were looking for anything who could fix all of the ongoing
problems they were facing this setup Adolf Hitlers rise up to power. Hitler s rise to
power was formed not only by the Treaty of Versailles, but also by his nazi

The Gettysburg Address, a speech given by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War.
Many people might not remember certain famous names but messages like the
Gettysburg Address are one of a kind in History. The pain, passion and emotion of
this speech let the people know that those who fought in the Civil War would not go
unknown or forgotten. The pain that is felt during this speech shows how much
Abraham Lincolncared about the ultimate sacrifice given by those who fought
during the Civil War. The description about the cause and how Abraham Lincoln
made sure that everyone should be treated with equality and can live free. If there is
anyone that stated it best was Abraham Lincoln that we here highly resolve these

and that government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from
the earth (Abraham Lincoln). The Gettysburg Addresswas written for the people
giving them a sense of pride, hope and honor for those who risked their life s during
the Civil War.
The structure of the message was something that by reading is something that was
very well planned and written. Abraham Lincoln was able to capture the cause of
what he was writing about so that the people can feel what he was saying. From the
beginning, he was able to explain what the Civil War represented and what the overall

37. State Repression Research Paper
Shortly after the murder of LaPorte, the Canadian government established harsh state
repression, not only in Quebec, but all over Canada. The government s explanation
for this aggressiveness was the belief that state repression would bring a stop to the
current terrorist attack. Once the FLQ was stopped and James Cross was recovered,
there was also the belief that the state repression stopped future terrorist attacks from
happening in Canada. The question we are thus faced with is whether state
repression decreases the number of future attacks after the repression has taken place.
To answer this question, we could conduct a causal experiment on the effect of state
repression on terrorist attacks. The start of the experiment would be to gather the
group that one will be looking at for the experiment. In the case of the experiment on
the effect of state repression on terrorist attacks, one would need to look at states that
face terrorism. The treatment for the experiment groups would be the repression. The
next step in the experiment would be determining what measurements we will be
taking. The first measurement we would take would be on the amount of state
repression that takes place in each state. This measurement would should be on a
rough scale since it would be quite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We would have started with a certain number of terrorist attacks in each state, thus
we would compare the number before the experiment and after the experiment took
place to record if there was any difference in those numbers. The next assessment we
would make is a comparison of those numbers against whether there was state
repression or not. This assessment is so that we can compare what the effect of the
different amounts of repression were for each state. We are looking for whether there
was a continuation in terrorist activities after repression and if there was, how the
number of terrorist attacks was affected by the

on two things. One is sports and the other being popularity and girls. Grace was a
stunning and attractive girl back then, with everyone always surrounding her. Zac
decided to take advantage of Grace one night at a party, but when she goes to tell

That had changed the way that people at school view her, which caused conflict

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Mercy, commonly known as UPMC
Mercy, was founded on Jan. 1, 1847, by the Sisters of Mercy. It was formerly
known as Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh. The Sisters of Mercy, a religious
congregation founded in Ireland in 1831 by Catherine McAuley, brought its caring
and compassionate labors to burgeoning, industrial Pittsburgh in 1843. (UPMC
Mercy, 2015) The Pittsburgh congregation, known as the Seven Sisters of Mercy,
was led by Mother Frances Warde and consisted of six additional sisters who
sought to establish a healthcare system for all without regard to race, religion, age,
gender or ethnicity. (UPMC Mercy, 2015) UPMC Mercy was the first permanent
hospital in Pittsburgh and the first Mercy Hospital in the world. (UPMC Mercy,
2015) UPMC Mercy s Mission and Values statement clearly illustrates the principles
of Gaudium et Spes, Part II, Chapter III, Section II: 72, Christians who take an
active part in present day socio economic development and fight for justice and
charity should be convinced that they can make a great contribution to the prosperity
of mankind and to the peace of the world. (VI, 1965) Reverence for each person: We

Community: We demonstrate our connectedness to each other through inclusive and
compassionate relationships. Justice: We advocate for a society where all can realize
their full potential and achieve the common good.
40. There Will Be Blood Film Review
There will be blood was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson who also was the
screenwriter. Some of the actors include Daniel Day Lewis who plaid Daniel
Plainview, Paul Dano who played both Eli Sunday and his twin brother Paul
Sunday, and Hans Howes who played Mr. Bandy. Over all the movie was well
scripted and the actors played their parts very well and made the movie very
realistic. Although there were some parts to the movie I didn t find very appealing I
would definitely recommend this movie to friends and family.
What viewers can expect from this film is quite a bit of drama and yes just like the
title inferred there will be blood. But other than the few deaths the film is quite
dramatic with Daniel competing with the big oil companies and ... Show more content

I think he did a phenomenal job playing Daniel Plainview because he really got
into his role and made his character very believable and he seemed to take his role
quite seriously. I also think that his performance made movie what it is now
because again he took his role very seriously and it showed because to me it made
the movie very realistic and gritty because right from the start we can see some of
the problems Daniel deals with and how he acts in general. Also I do not think that
any other actor could have played Daniel the way Day Lewis did and if they tried the
movie wouldn t have the same

The History of Italian Opera
Introduction
There are many forms of art such as, paintings, sculptures, buildings, etc. Opera is
another form of art though it may not seem like art to many people. Few forms of
art... are as overtly involved as opera in the social and historical contexts within
which they are created and consumed (Lindenberger 235). Italian opera which
obviously formed in Italy is a form of art in the Italian language. It was introduced
in Italy in the 1600s. Ironically many composers of Italian opera were from other
areas of the world rather than Italy. However, there are many famous composers who
were born and raised in Italy. These operas written by these composers are some of
the most famous throughout the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Rome there were many6 composers who were beginning to work throughout
this time. Opera in Rome was known for its choruses that were very large and the
presentation of the stage. When opera eventually made it to Venice, it was
changing. In Venice the first opera house was opened. This sparked a huge change
that led opera into the business world. After the establishment of the first opera
house, many more were beginning to sprout up all around Italy and those
throughout society were now paying to see these performances. By this time,
Monteverdi had moved to Venice to compose operas. In time, opera was beginning
to travel outside the comfort zone of Italy and into other areas of the world. Opera
spread to England, France, Germany, and so on. Many composers were called to
these other areas of the world to perform rather than going their on their own
intuitions.
The 18th Century When the 17th century came to end it seemed as if there was
more grandiose form of opera that needed to come into perspective. These ideas
would eventually lead to a form of serious opera known as opera seria. Pietro
Metastasio was the most successful librettist of this time. As defined in the Merriam
Webster Dictionary a libretto is, the text used in an extended musical work such as an
opera, operetta, masque, sacred or secular oratorio and cantata, musical, and ballet.
These librettos written by Metastasio captivated

Having Our Say by Sadie and Bessie Delany
The social, cultural and political history of America as it affects the life course of
American citizens became very real to us as the Delany sisters, Sadie and Bessie,
recounted their life course spanning a century of living in their book Having Our
Say. The Delany sisters lives covered the period of their childhood in Raleigh,
North Carolina, after the Surrender to their adult lives in Harlem, New York City
during the roaring twenties, to a quiet retirement in suburban, New York City, as
self styled maiden ladies. At the ages of 102 and 104, these ladies have lived long

Basic habits such as clean bodies, clean thoughts, a love of music and concern for
the less fortunate, became a way of life in their family. Therefore, the Delanys,
although not wealthy were considered an elite black family due to their high values
and standards (p.69).
Why in reviewing their lives they considered themselves very lucky? Because the
life of black people outside the doors of their sheltered home and the gates of St.
Augustine were vastly different. Sadie and Bessie witnessed and experienced the
insults and indignities of being black in the South during the Reconstruction
period and the enactment of Jim Crow laws. John Hope Franklin, in his book From
Slavery to Freedom, explained that after the Civil War, the South was filled with
former slaves who were disoriented and ill prepared for freedom, suffering from
starvation and disease ... homeless and without jobs wandering from place to place,
much to the disgust and fear of whites. (Franklin, p. 222). That was the plight of
most black people. Sadie and Bessie worked during the Reconstruction era teaching
in the rural south to raise money and saw the poverty and felt the insults of Jim
Crow Laws with its Coloreds and Whites only signs. And as Lerone Bennett, Jr. in A

Members
The Negative Effects of Unresolved Grief Among Family Members
The death of a parent is the most traumatic event most families will ever experience.
The primary support after such an event comes from the surviving family members
and close friends who knew the deceased parent. Additional help can be received
from psychologists, grief counselors, and other professionals. Resolving short term
shock and long term grief following the loss of a parent can be extremely difficult
based on the age of the remaining family members and the relationship they had with
the deceased parent. It is important to use all resources available to get the family
through such an experience. Families who experience the death of a parent, without

If they fail to work through their grief and their grief is unresolved, they can
develop problems later in their adulthood. Sometimes these problems are not too
serious, but sometimes they become major, long term emotional handicaps
(Fitzgerald, 1994). Usually the short term reactions tend not to last more then a
few weeks, and most children regain their previous level of psychosocial
functioning. Reports show however, that children who have lost a parent have
higher levels of emotional disturbance for up to two years, than children who have
not been through such a traumatic event. Up to forty percent of children may
show disturbance a year after the loss. Some children may develop learning
problems and may fall behind in school. In extreme cases children have suicidal
thoughts and long to be with those who have passed on, though these thoughts are
rarely acted upon (Black, 1998). Problems can arise because a child who loses a
parent also tends to become very protective and anxious about the health and
survival of the other parent. Children often protect the surviving parent from
knowing that they are in distress. This may lead the parent to believe that the child
has not been affected by, or has already recovered from the loss (Black, 1998). The
family may then believe that the child has resolved their grief when, in fact, they
have not. Young children who lose a parent through death and don t allow themselves
to mourn the loss may experience a strong sense

In the article What We Talk About When We Talk About Love , which was written
by Raymond Carver in 1981, the author is mainly talking about the story from Mel
McGinnis, who is at home with his wife Terri and their friends, Nick and Laura, are
drinking gin and tonics and talking about love.
The first discussion is about Terri s ex husband, Ed. Ed is the guy she was with
before Mel McGinnis. It is a sad story. She says, that night Ed beat her, he told her, I
love you, I love you, you bitch while he pulled her around the room. Terri considers
that what Ed felt for her was love. And then Terri continues with her story. He stalks

Concepts and ideas of the United States political system is shaped by how Ancient
Romans viewed and interpreted justice in society. Roman philosophers and politicians
influenced the Founders of the United States and shaped our political and justice
system. The Roman concept of justice plays a large and important role in the way
Americans view and perceive justice. Justice, interpreted by Sellers, Livy, Aurelius,
Foucalt, and Sallust all influence and inform Americans belief of the relationship
between justice and politics. Sellers, in his book, American Republicanism, delves
into the topic of justice in Ancient Roman politics. He discusses the interpretations of
justice that are described by famous politician and historian, Cicero and Livy. Sellers
then draws similarities between Cicero and Livy s interpretations with the
interpretations of men who were important in the finding of the United States, such as

With the increasing number of users of cloud, the load/ traffic also increases and it
becomes important to have some techniques to balance the load equally among all
the nodes, so that the user doesn t suffer and the services are delivered effectively
and efficiently. Therefore the need for Load Balancing algorithms arises. There are a
number of techniques available for load balancing. In this paper, different kinds of
load balancing algorithms in cloud computing along with the challenges and the
qualitative metrics for the various load balancing algorithms are presented.

pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage,
applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal
management effort or service provider interaction. This cloud model is composed of
five essential characteristics, three service models, and four deployment models.
Cloud computing is a type of Internet based computing that provides shared computer

Shouldice Hospital Case Study
Mrudula Anne
Executive Summary Shouldice Hospital has been devoted to repairing hernias for
over half a century. The current capacity of Shouldice is at 89 beds, however the
demand for its services are a lot higher than its bed capacity and growing at 100
patients/6 months. Thus, Shouldice needs to find a way to expand its capacity while
maintaining the quality of its service.
Given the increasing demand for the services at Shouldice, my recommendation is to
work on opening Shouldice hospital extra hours to accommodate the increasing
demand for their services. The alternative would be to increase the number of beds
by expanding the physical premises of the hospital. ... Show more content on

Demand for 116 beds on Wednesday and Thursday
2.Demand for 99 beds on Tuesday
Thus by increasing the number of beds, this would help give the hospital a more
wiggle room to schedule more operations per day and help run at its capacity.
Taking time perishability of the service goods (hospital beds) into account I think
the number of beds need to be increased to 110 instead of 116. Hence the
percentage increase in beds required would be (110 89)/89 = 23.60%. Thus, the
current demand can be met and Shouldice can be operated at its fullest capacity by
increasing the number of beds by 23.6%.
Recommendation
As pointed out in the previous section, the bottleneck at the beds, which is
bleeding to the number of operations and the utility of the existing operation rooms
needs to be addressed as soon as possible. At is full capacity Shouldice can perform
38 operations per day, when there is no restriction on the number of beds available.
Spread over 5 operation rooms, it averages out to 38/5 = 7.6 operations per room
in any given day. These operations needs to be spread out and spaced evenly to
make sure the rooms can be used to their full capacity at 6 to 7 operations per day.
With the current working hours of 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening, it is
difficult to accommodate 6 to 7 operations per day in a room. Hence along with the
increase in the number of beds, Shouldice also needs to increase its hours of
operations to 10 hours a day or open one extra day in a

Appalachian
For the followers of the Holiness Church in the Appalachian Mountain region, serpent
handling is a central activity at their religious meetings. Following a passage in the
Gospel of Mark, followers are instructed to take up serpents and trust in God enough
to put their lives at risk. This rather unique religious ritualcan be analyzed and
understood by looking towards the MacMillan definition of religion. The MacMillan
Encyclopedia of Religion states [...] almost every known culture [has] a depth
dimension in cultural experiences [...] toward some sort of ultimacy and
transcendence that will provide norms and power for the rest of life. When more or
less distinct patterns of behavior are built around this depth dimension in a culture,

As Stein explains, this scriptural backing and myth has led to the widespread
practice of serpent handling. The scripture provides the clarity that MacMillan
defines as central to religious experiences. While the mythology has existed for
centuries, Stein stipulates that the practice of serpent handling in Appalachia
originated in the 20th century. The relatively new practice must be explained and
understood in practical terms of anthropology. Stein and Stein provide five
categories of religious rituals: technological, therapy, ideological, salvation, and
revitalization. Since the ritual is focused on individual faith and action to follow
the word of God, it can best be characterized as a salvation ritual. Stein and Stein
explain that salvation rituals are focused on the religious experience of the
individual, have some mystical experience, and in which an individual is changed
in some way, temporarily or permanently. (Stein and Stein 86) Snake handling is a
fundamentally individual experience. While parishioners go to church and watch
the ritual together, there is no external pressure for an individual to take up snakes.
Instead, believers are told that they will be moved by the Holy Ghost to take up
snakes. Children are kept far away from the practice, revealing that believers want an
individual to be fully aware and ready for the ritual if they should eventually
50. Integration Of Airpower
Airpower in the United States has had a contentious history and even today still
raises a lot of debate.1 Leading up to the Second World War, airpower became a
significant component of America s fighting force. America began to recognize that it
had a superior air force and began integrating that technology as part of its military
strategy but not before overcoming significant integration challenges.
Airpower had a decisive effect on the way victory in war is declared. Japan s attack
on Pearl Harbor and the U.S. Army s retaliation on Hiroshima and Nagasaki are
testament to the effectiveness of the utilization of airpower assets. In this example, it
was clear that airpower was to become the frontier of the future despite the
difficulties in introducing this culture shift to the U.S. Army.2 During the run up to
the Second World War and during the period of its occurrence till its end, there
existed strong sentiments with regards to how effective airpower would be in the
war. There were arguments regarding its effectiveness with detractors pointing out
instances such as Combined Bomber Offensive in Europe and its failure to win the
war. Another point of detraction was that war cannot be won without ground
offensives that lead the way for the airpower assets to strike. In fact, airpower
advantage was not as decisive as praised.3 However, the reasons for difficulty in
integration were more than just those instances. A major talking point during this
