2. Personal Statement Dear Admissions Representative, As a future graduate at Argosy University, I wish to be considered for the Master’s of Arts in Clinical Psychology Program. When applying to Argosy University I was aware of additional programs that were offered to help further my career. I have been a student at Argosy for two years and would like the opportunity to continue my education within the same close knit environment that this university provides. Working with customer service and patient care has allowed me to gain experience in working with people whose emotions are closer to the surface. I have learned to stay calm and level headed in these situations and to utilize my communication skills to defuse the issue at hand. As a cashier I am responsible for money transactions. Unloading and correctly stocking the morning and afternoon loads is one of the responsibilities of being a floor stocker I am also responsible for sorting special orders from sales floor stock. 2004-2005 Westlake Hospital Melrose Park, IL Working at the hospital as a student allowed me to rotate through each of the departments of the hospital. My rotations through the hospital allowed me to interact with the staff in each of the different areas of the hospital ranging from ICU to hospitality services. This also allowed me to interact with the patients and practice patient care. One of the departments that allowed me to gain insight on clinical psychology was the rehab department. This department dealt with patients who were being treated for substance abuse and mental disorders.

4. Reflection I feel that over the courses of the undergraduate program I grown academically. When I first started the program I had not experienced classes that taught on a professional level. They no longer only focused on the academic portion but also focused on developing skills that would one day help in treating potential clients. I have been able to develop a better understanding in the field of psychology. In taking various courses and creating class projects it has helped me realize many of my strengths and weaknesses. Some of my strengths tend to be focused on my writing ability. As unlikely as it might be I tend to enjoy the process of creating research papers. The steps of researching sources, analyzing them and creating drafts for a paper go by smoothly with little anxiety or stress. This also goes along with my weakness of not being able to write as comfortable on personal topics. I have also discovered that two other weakness that I posses are presentation skills and computer skills. When presentations are expected I will develop a high level of anxiety, often resulting in a few minutes of stutter. In trying to develop technological skill I have learned that I need to become more aware of how to create technological presentations with inserts of files or media, this also has to be followed by being able to make it accessible through the internet. In realizing a few of my strengths and weakness I will be able to develop them to allow for future success.

12. My Future in Learning I believe that no matter what field a person pursue they should always continue some form of learning. It is important to continuing some form of learning because new theories and ideas are always developing. For example there always new medications being developed to treat illnesses or diseases. Without continuing some from of learning doctors would not be able to understand the benefits and dangers these medications could pose their patients. The same goes for psychology. In the future I hope to pursue a career in forensic psychology. I know that this will require a lot of work and dedication but I know that this is field that wish to pursue. In doing this I will have to develop an understanding of the field and all of the treatment options available to the clients I will be treating. I believe that in pursuing a career is psychology it also requires a dedication to continuing some form of learning. New treatment methods and solutions can develop over a period of years and should be learned to benefit both the clients and I.
