This document provides instructions for properly donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with infectious materials. It explains that PPE should be worn to protect oneself from contamination, and outlines the proper order and techniques for putting on and taking off each piece of the equipment, including gloves, gown, face shield or goggles, mask or respirator, and shoe covers. Special attention is given to ensuring the "clean" inside areas of the PPE remain uncontaminated by only touching the "contaminated" outside surfaces when removing items and washing hands thoroughly after doffing each piece.

6. DONNING
• Wear scrubs / Hospital Uniform
• Lay out PPE on sterile table
• Inspect for Tears / Defects
• Select appropriate Size
• Do Hand Washing
• Wear Inner gloves
• Wear shoe cover
• Wear disposable gown
• Wear N95 Respirator/Mask
• Face goggles
• Wear hood of gown
• Wear Face shield
• Wear Outer Gloves covering the cuff of gown

• Select appropriate type and size

• Zip the front of the gown once done

• Place over nose, mouth and chin
• Fit flexible nose piece over nose bridge
• Secure on head with one elastic strap
• Secure the second elastic strap behind the neck
• Adjust to fit, sealing properly over nose
• Perform a fit check –
– Inhale – respirator should collapse
– Exhale – check for air leakage around face

• Important - Remove respirator outside patients
room
• Ensure that hand hygiene facilities are
available at the point needed, e.g., sink or
alcohol-based hand rub

• Gown
• Face shield or goggles
• Mask or respirator

• Remove face shield if worn
• Hand rub on inner glove
