Definition
• PPE are specialized clothing or equipment
worn by an employee for protection against
infectious materials
Regulations
• Provide appropriate PPE for employee
• Reused PPEs to be cleaned, laundered and
repaired , and stored after use.
• Disposable to be discarded after use
PPE-personal protection equipment
GOWN
• Select appropriate size and type
• Opening at the back
• Secure at neck and waist
• If too small, use 2 gowns.

GOWN
• Select appropriate size and type
• Opening at the back
• Secure at neck and waist
• If too small, use 2 gowns.
Masks
• 2 layer, 3 layer and N-95
• •Standard masks to cover mouth ANDnose
• •The lower strings also to be securely
fastened
• •The upper rim metal band to be pressed fit
over nose
• •When removing avoid touching
contaminated areas/outer surface
Mask
• Hold mask by top 2 strings. Tie those strings at
the top and back of the head with ties above
the ears
• Tie lower ties snugly around the neck with the
mask well under the chin
• Ensure mask covers the mouth and the nose
adequately
• When removing a mask with strings, first untie
the lower strings of the mask
• Discard it in waste container
Don a particular respirator
• Select a fit tested respirator
• Place over nose, mouth and chin
• Fit flexible nose piece over nose bridge
• Secure on head with elastic
• Adjust to fit
• Perform a fit check
• Inhale –respirator should collapse
• Exhale – check for leakage around face
Don eye and face protection
• Position goggles over eyes
• Position face shield over face and secure on
brow with head band
• Adjust to fit comfortably
Eye Wear
• Eye splash risk in theatres, casualty
dressing rooms, labor rooms, labs,
etc.
• Close fitting goggles the best option
• When removing avoid touching
contaminated areas/outer surface
Types of Gloves
• 1.Surgical Gloves:G
• 2. Single-use examination gloves:
• 3.Utility or heavy-duty household gloves:

removing

Don gloves
• Don gloves last
• Select correct type and size
• Insert hands into gloves
• Extend gloves over isolation gown cuffs
Do’s and don'ts of glows use
• Limit touch contamination
• Don’t touch your face or adjust PPE with
contaminated gloves
• Don’t touch environment unnecessary
• Change gloves -- if torn
• Discard in appropriate receptacle
Removal of gloves
• Grasp out side edge near wrist
• Peel away from hand , turning inside out
• Hold in opposite gloved hand
• Slide ungloved finger under the wrist of
remaining glove
• Peel off from inside
• Discard
Remove goggles
• Grasp ear piece or head piece with ungloved
hands
• Lift away from face
• Place in proper place for disposal/reprocessing
Remove isolation gown
• Unfasten ties
• Peel gown away from neck and shoulders
• Turn contaminated outside towards inside
• Fold it
• Discard
Removing mask
• Untie the bottom , then top tie
• Remove from face
• discard
Removing a particulate respirator
• Lift the bottom elastic over your head first
• Then lift off the top elastic
• Discard
Footwear
• Dedicated foot wear not to be worn out of
the designated area
• •Closed foot wear, better, than Hawai slippers
• •Decontamination of used footwear-do as for
instruments.
• •Provide simple footwear to patients being
walked in‟ to theatres, labor rooms
