This document provides instructions for a peer review assignment. Students are asked to: 1) Read a peer's essay without marking it up; 2) Reread the essay, noting strengths and areas for improvement; 3) Write a 1-page letter identifying 3 strengths, 3 areas for improvement, and suggested revisions, citing examples from the essay; 4) Print and return the letter and essay draft to the peer; and 5) Print a copy of the letter for their portfolio. The goal is to provide constructive feedback to help peers improve their work.

1. English 102 Peer Review Letter Assignment—
1) Read their essay without making any marks on the paper
2) Read their essay again and note both aspects that are working, and also need
improvement. These notes are for them, but they’re also for you because they’ll help you
write your letter.
3) Referring to your notes on their essay, write at least a 1page (double spaces, 12-point
font) letter to your peer where you discuss the following:
- Three things that are strong about their essay and why
- Three things that could be improved in their essay and why
- How you would revise their essay going forward— what steps would you take?
***Remember to be specific and detailed. Cite examples from their essay to support your claim
so they better understand your points. Be constructive and helpful, but also give them a good
idea of what they can do to improve their work.
4) Print the letter and return it to your peer along with their draft the following class meeting
5) Print another copy of the letter you wrote to put in your unit two portfolio
