(ARC312) Processing Money in the Cloud | AWS re:Invent 2014Amazon Web Services
Financial transactions need to be processed and stored securely and in real time. Together with a giant in the mortgage insurance industry, we have developed an elastic, secure, and compliant data processing framework on AWS that meets these processing requirements and drastically improves the time it takes to make a decision on a loan. This session will discuss what we've learned along the way, how we have overcome multiple security and compliance hurdles, and how other organizations in regulated industries can do the same. This session is targeted at business decision-makers and solutions architects working in regulated industries with high security and compliance requirements.
The document describes a multi-agent system for manufacturing that includes several agents: a machine agent, local scheduling agent, local maintenance agent, global scheduling agent, and customer agent. It discusses implementing a BDI (beliefs, desires, intentions) architecture and blackboard architecture to improve scheduling and enable rescheduling. The objectives are to provide advanced scheduling algorithms and a rescheduling architecture within a robust multi-agent system framework. Work done includes implementing the BDI and blackboard architectures and improving the scheduling algorithm using a branch and bound approach.
When it comes to the cloud, Gartner may have said it best:
“By 2020, a corporate ‘no-cloud’ policy will be as rare as a corporate ‘no-internet’ policy is today.”
If your organization is still skeptical of the cloud, now is the time to take a closer look. Faster implementation timelines and reduced maintenance costs are just two reasons why the cloud is becoming the standard across all industries.
In our webinar, we dispelled common concerns and explored the benefits of operating in the cloud. We also provided real-world examples of companies that have taken the leap and discovered just how much better business works in the cloud.
Empowering Real Time Patient Care Through Spark StreamingDatabricks
Takeda’s Plasma Derived Therapies (PDT) business unit has recently embarked on a project to use Spark Streaming on Databricks to empower how they deliver value to their Plasma Donation centers. As patients come in and interface without clinics, we store and track all of the patient interactions in real time and deliver outputs and results based on said interactions. The current problem with our existing architecture is that it is very expensive to maintain and has an unsustainable number of failure points. Spark Streaming is essential for allowing this use case because it allows for a more robust ETL pipeline. With Spark Streaming, we are able to replace our existing ETL processes (that are based on Lamdbas, step functions, triggered jobs, etc) into a purely stream driven architecture.
Data is brought into our s3 raw layer as a large set of CSV files through AWS DMS and Informatica IICS as these services bring data from on-prem systems into our cloud layer. We have a stream currently running which takes these raw files up and merges them into Delta tables established in the bronze/stage layer. We are using AWS Glue as the metadata provider for all of these operations. From the stage layer, we have another set of streams using the stage Delta tables as their source, which transform and conduct stream to stream lookups before writing the enriched records into RDS (silver/prod layer). Once the data has been merged into RDS we have a DMS task which lifts the data back into S3 as CSV files. We have a small intermediary stream which merge these CSV files into corresponding delta tables, from which we have our gold/analytic streams. The on-prem systems are able to speak to the silver layer and allow for the near real-time latency that our patient care centers require.
Shop floor management focuses on the operational control and short-cycle stabilization of value-adding processes: through clear structures and target systems, stringent process organization and work standards across all hierarchical levels.
Modern Data Platform Part 1: Data IngestionNilesh Shah
The document describes Azure Data Factory (ADF) as a fully-managed data integration service in the cloud that allows for hybrid data movement and orchestration of data pipelines wherever data lives. Workflows, provenance and reporting: a lifecycle perspective at BIH 2013, RomeCarole Goble
Workflow systems support the design, configuration and execution of repetitive, multi-step pipelines and analytics, well established in many disciplines, notably biology and chemistry, but less so in biodiversity and ecology. From an experimental perspective workflows are a means to handle the work of accessing an ecosystem of software and platforms, manage data and security, and handle errors. From a reporting perspective they are a means to accurately document methodology for reproducibility, comparison, exchange and reuse, and to trace the provenance of results for review, credit, workflow interoperability and impact analysis. Workflows operate in an evolving ecosystem and are assemblages of components in that ecosystem; their provenance trails are snapshots of intermediate and final results. Taking a lifecycle perspective, what are the challenges in workflow design and use with different stakeholders? What needs to be tackled in evolution, resilience, and preservation? And what are the “mitigate or adapt” strategies adopted by workflow systems in the face of changes in the ecosystem/environment, for example when tools are depreciated or datasets become inaccessible in the face of funding shortfalls?
This document discusses IBM's support for facility owners through its Maximo and TRIRIGA applications. It describes the key capabilities of Maximo for asset and work management. It also outlines TRIRIGA's modules for real estate management, capital projects, facilities management, and environmental sustainability. The document advocates for improving the handover of building information from design to operations through the use of BIM and standards like COBie.

IBM Smarter Buildings: Detailed Overview Steve Cole
IBM celebrated its Centennial in 2011. It gave us the opportunity to reflect on what it takes to be a great company and a great brand. To do that, we remain committed to being a leader in the markets we serve….. and a company that operates on a higher standard than just what is required by law or regulation… A company that continuously reinvents itself and creates offerings that have a positive impact on our planet. And nowhere is this more important than innovations that deal energy efficiency in buildings.
This Smarter Buildings presentation illustrates the real business value of doing more with less ways that benefits the economic, operational and environmental strategies of your organization. This represents IBM’s perspective on smarter buildings, one that will introduce you to 5 key project areas you may not have thought of when you think of a "smarter building".
Our Smarter Buildings discussion presentation will illustrate the real business value of doing more with less in a way that benefits the economic, operational and environmental strategies of your organization.

TRIRIGA provides 16 web-based designers - easy-to-use tools to configure (no code required) the application from the: Data Model – where you can define and manage the data definitions within TRIRIGA. With the data modeler, a business administrator not a DBA can modify existing business objects and definitions or create brand new business objects – adding new fields, associations to and between different business objects as well as define the state transition for a business object. User Interface: there are three key tools: Portal Manager: define the role-specific portal homepages and information to display when the user first logs in GUI Builder: modify the information, labels and terminology on the on-line screen – add new business objects/data elements Report Manager: create new reports for new business objects or modify and existing report to add new fields Business Process: the Workflow builder allows you to define all of the business process logic within TRIRIGA applications in a graphical process flow. Not your typical workflow, TRIRIGA’s workflow builder goes beyond approvals and notifications – to create new requests, tasks, transactions, updates the data base and manages and controls the state and transitions of the business process.
