Amy Tan And Firoozeh Dumas Essay
In contrast, Amy Tan and Firoozeh Dumas struggled with accepting their culture. Tan s parents
emigrated from China and settled in Oakland, California. She grew up in a Chinese culture and has
struggled to accept it. Her family customs and physical appearances have made Amy feel different
from Americans. On Christmas Eve Tan s mother invited Robert, Amy s crush, and his family for
dinner. Amy was horrified when she found out that her mother invited Robert and his American
family. She thought they would be disappointed with the food her mother prepared, the Chinese
Christmas decorations and her loud and unsuitable mannered relatives. Throughout the dinner, Tan s
relatives displayed inappropriate behaviors that threw her off. Their behavior was inappropriate that ...

These kinds of behaviors are what caused Amy to think of changing her culture and become more
American. Unlike Amy Tan, Firoozeh Dumas struggled with identity. Moving from Iran with her
family, Dumas has struggled with teasing and bullying because of her. Dumas s name Firoozeh means
Turquoise in Farsi. While living in the US, ignorant people have made fun of Firoozeh s name. In the
essay The F Word, Dumas narrates about the struggles of having a different name that s always
pronounced wrong because ignorant Americans refuse to learn it. She also talks about how her
brothers and friend suffered with this too. Dumas not only struggled with ignorant people not
pronouncing her name right, she could not get a job. When she was young, Dumas decided to change
her name to Julie. Having an American name changed everything for her. Students at her school began
to recognize her and invite her to social gatherings. Once she got to college, Dumas changed her name
back to Firoozeh. But that became a problem after she graduated because she could not find a job.
After three months of rejections, I added Julie to my

Ch. 1: Thinking Critically With Psychological Science Outline The Need for Psychological Science
Two phenomena hindsight bias and judgmental overconfidence illustrate why we can t rely solely on
intuition and common sense. The Limits of Intuition and Common Sense Our intuition can lead us
astray. Did We Know It All Along? Hindsight Bias Hindsight bias The tendency to believe, after
learning an outcome, that one would have foreseen it. (I knew it all along phenomenon) Common
sense describes what has happened more easily than it predicts what will happen. Our intuition may

Descriptive Essay On Living In A Room
Living in a Dorm Room While most freshman choose to live in a dorm room their first year of
college, there can be some negative and positive outcomes when living with someone else. It can be
hard to cope with the other person or it can be easy to cope with the other person you are sharing a
room with. Sometimes on the other hand, it can easily become dramatically annoying, difficult, and
disruptive to others in the room, like I think it did to me. Although I do believe living in a dorm can be
much of a transformation from living in a house, every college student, like I did last year, has to
experience the part of living in a dorm. Or experience being in a dorm room at one point during their
college experience, if he/she chooses to go the college route. Last year, while living in a college dorm
at my other college before I became a transfer student, I had to share my room with one other girl that
was a thrower in Track and Field, who was all muscle and about a foot taller than me topping off at
probably 6 3 . I was terrified of her, if I did something wrong or if I said something wrong in general,
she would have probably kicked my butt, literally. So, I decided from the first time I saw her to keep
things to myself and mind my own opinion, of course not telling her my point of view on everything
she did wrong, because I did not want to get hurt. It all started when she never cleaned up after herself,
which made it very easy for me to become annoyed by her and

Feminist Perspective On Prostitution
Prostitution is often referred to as the world s oldest profession, and yet, it is also one of the most
controversial. Utilizing multiple perspectives to understand certain issues may aid in the creating
strategies for equality (Levan, Unit 1 , 10). Different feminist theories have varying opinions
regarding prostitution, and this paper will attempt to address the concerns that each framework brings
in order to promote justice. One of the main arguments surrounding prostitution is whether or not this
type of work should be legalized. Some argue that this work should be decriminalized so that people
who want to work in this field can. This would be voluntary work, unlike those who are forced into it
via human trafficking. In the course text, it is explained that Marxist theory recognizes that choices ...
made in the context of economic or political pressures [can] narrow the possible and desirable choices
(Levan, Unit 3 , 57). In the context of prostitution, this may mean that people are choosing the field
because it is an accessible type of work that will pay the bills, as opposed to doing it purely out of
choice. From a Marxist, perspective, this means that the workers do not have freedom (Levan, Unit 3 ,
57). Additionally, if the workers were not able to recognize that they were being coerced into this field
by economic necessity, Marxist feminists would claim that they are living with false consciousness.
Levan describes this as the failure for one to see their

I Am Passionate About Food
Exploratory Essay
A majority of individuals that inhabit this universe were not born with a talent. I, unfortunately was no
exception. I grew up stumbling through different sports teams and art classes. From playing games of
softball to attending pottery classes, nothing really stuck to me. I was beginning to doubt I would ever
find anything I was truly passionate about until recently. I have realized that I am passionate about
food. Not just eating it, but also studying it as it is processed though the body. I was initially
introduced to nutrition through my own poor eating habits. I was on the verge of becoming obese
when visited a Nutritionist. I was very overwhelmed with my diet changes at first, but then became
amazed at how much better I felt mentally and physically. I was so inspired by this that I decided that
becoming a Nutritionist would be something that I want to do for a living. The quizzes from The
College Foundation of North Carolina seemed to support my decisions as well, making me even more
confident to pursue a career doing my passion.
Even though making a decision about what I want to do for the rest of my life is an enormous deal, I
am confident that becoming a nutritionist is the goal in my educational plan. I am an extremely
indecisive individual, but the passion I encompass for living a healthy lifestyle through food is enough
to make me determined to pursue this career. As of right now I am pursuing an Associates in Arts at

Say Anything s I Don T Think It Matters
Album Review Say Anything s new album, I Don t Think It Is, is exactly what it sounds like. Max
Bemis is no stranger to pushing boundaries and this album reflects the ways he continues to do that.
Unlike most artists who release a few songs before the album drops, Bemis decided to take a different
approach in not just his music, but also his way of presenting it. This album was a complete surprise
and it was dropped as is with no songs leading up to the release. I was excited to see that one of my
favorite bands released a new album. After hearing it for the first time I came to one conclusion, Say
Anything s I Don t Think It Is, is perfectly imperfect in every way imaginable. This album was unlike
anything I have ever heard. It started off with the song Give A Damn. Bemis was screaming out his
lungs, basically going on a rant with this song setting the tone for the rest of the album. The chorus
says, We don t give a damn what they say repeated over and over. This is not unusual for Say
Anything, since they have always challenged the ideas of others. Quite frankly, just like the ... Show

focusing on what is real. We are conditioned to think or act a certain way from the moment we are
conceived leading up to our death. We only see what those around us want us to see and are
brainwashed into believing it is the truth. This is the message that this album is trying so hard to get
across. He is showing us the truth that most people turn their heads to through his

Fatima Mernissi s Dreams Of Trespass
The story of Fatima Mernissi is truly an enchanting and empowering one. In the book Dreams of
Trespass, we are given a glimpse of the young girl s adventurous life in a traditional Moroccan harem
during the 1940 s and early 1950 s. Through her journey in the harem, we see how life in the harem
can be enchanting and confined at the same time. In this book, Fatima elaborates life in a traditional
Moroccan harem, what a harem really means, the many women in her life that continuously challenge
the norms of her culture and society, and how that has inspired her to dream big and work towards
achieving freedom outside of the frontiers. In the beginning of the book, Fatima begins to describe life
at the Mernissi household. Fatima lived in a Moroccan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is something I too asked myself multiple times while reading the book. That is something that
Fatima herself questioned many times while she was growing up. Something I immediately began to
adore about Fatima while reading her tales was her unstoppable curiosity and need to ask questions.
She asks many questions to feel more knowledgeable and to understand her surroundings. However,
as we learn about the many things forbidden inside the harem, Fatima tells us that asking too many
questions is one of them. That is only because asking a question such as what is a harem? is not really
a question that the adults will volunteer to answer (Mernissi, 39). Like many children do, Fatima and
her cousins loved to break rules. Fatima, Samir, and their other cousin, Malika used to occasionally
climb onto the forbidden terrace. According to Fatima, Samir and Malika s main purpose to climb
onto the highest terrace was to push their investigation of harems further. They would sit there and
ponder on the unanswered questions by the adults and find out the truth behind these questions. They
would ask each other rather simple questions: Is a harem a house in which a man lives with many
wives? Do all married men have harems? Can you have more than one master in a harem? (Mernissi,
150) As simple as these questions sound, they figured that the answers to these questions were more
complicated than they thought. They used their own harem and other harems they knew up to answers
these questions but eventually never found the true answer. While many of the adults gave different
answers to what a harem, it was truly Lalla Yasmina, Fatima s maternal grandmother who gave her
true closer on the definition of a harem. She explained to Fatima, The word harem was a slight
variation to the word haram, the forbidden, the proscribed. It was the opposite of halal, the
permissible. Harem was the place where

Air Canada s Business Strategy Essay
Over the years Air Canada s business strategy has changed and has been reconstructed a number of
times. Air Canada s mission has always remained the same, connecting Canada and world (Air
Canada, 2016), but their visions and goals, have transformed.
Air Canada s early strategy was to grow the business, with minimal concern about their staff members
and customers. Without any benefits or rewards their staff felt underappreciated. Their customers felt
as though their feedback wasn t being heard but in the eyes of Air Canada as long as their business
was expanding, they were satisfied.
This was evident with the purchase of Canadian Airlines, in 1999 (The National, 2003). With the
purchase of this airline, Air Canada also inherited their estimated eight billion dollar debt (The
National, 2003). Also inherited from the merger, were underappreciated employees and under trained
employees who lacked morale (The National, 2003). In 2003, Air Canada filed for bankruptcy (The
National, 2003), this was due to the large financial deficit, the economy and the underappreciated/paid
employees. Although, this was a difficult time for the airline, this truly marked the change in how the
airline is structured. In 2005, it marked the true return of Air Canada, they reached record breaking
revenues and far exceeded anyone s expectation, including their own. Currently Air Canada, is the
largest Canadian Airline, which has a lot to do with their change in business strategy.
Air Canada is now an

The Importance Of Wealth And A Consumerist Nation

Social Classholes:
The Importance of Wealth Historically and in a Consumerist Nation
One of the most important aspects of any novel is the theme. Furthermore, themes that express
practicalities that people in the real world deal with regularly are that much more effecting. That s why
novels like Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre are timeless; their themes are extremely important and
will forever ring true in society. Most prevalently of the themes in these novels is social class. Social
class is something that has been, and always will be, very important to society; as happens in the
novels, people are unjustly judged based upon their monetary position in society. For the setting of the
stories, these people saw nothing wrong with this prejudice; and this was also a truth in reality. The
more privileged were more eligible for happiness. When studying history, literature, and just the
normal everyday life, social class pops up into nearly every medium.
In the United States, the relevance and importance of social class is absolutely enormous. The hulking
impact that class and stature has on people is largely apart of the nations problems. Statistics are
shocking; the amount of homeless people, or just the population of people in poverty in all, is a
number to be dealt with. The numbers are astounding; ninety percent of all American citizens share
one percent of the wealth. The other ninety

Glass Ceiling In The Workplace
The glass ceiling is the metaphorical representation of the difficulties minorities, and women face
when attempting to move to higher levels of the organization hierarchy (Berry Franks, 2010; Johns,

minorities whose upward mobility is restricted by the glass ceiling are discriminated on the basis of
race, age, or sexual orientation (Johns, 2013). The glass ceiling also includes the life issues that the
minorities such as women have to balance with their work as they seek to advance in the workplace.

situation after all. Its customer received free shares as extra value on top of using new technology for
trading activities, while 8 Securities differentiated itself from its rival by delivering the promotion
messages directly to its specific target customers without huge spending on advertisement. The article
mentioned the targeting, though not completely the segmentation, of 8 Securities. The company
strategically targeted at young, tech savvy people who use the social network. Referring to Table 1
below, 8 Security aimed about 46% (1.6 million) of the total Facebook users in Hong Kong. As such,
its marketing promotion through the most popular online social network channel is proven most

Securities is suggested to invest more in new but different product development to cope the rest of

Impact Of Biodiversity On The Extinction Of Plant And...
Review of Literature
Issue:
The rapid increase in the extinction rate of plant and animal species has proven to be a massive issue
regarding biodiversity loss.
Anil Markandya, from the Basque center for Climate Change and author of The Economic Feedbacks
of Loss of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services says,
Globally, terrestrial biodiversity is projected to decrease by a further 10% by 2050. As with
biodiversity, the planet has also experienced major losses in the services derived from ecosystems.
During the last century, for example, the planet has lost 50% of its wetlands, 40% of its forests and
35% of its mangroves. Around 60% of global ecosystem services have been degraded in just 50 years.
This loss of Biodiversity is a phenomenon that has currently been under scrutiny. Markandya states
The topic of biodiversity loss has been the subject of a vast and growing scientific and economic
literature. Species are estimated to be going extinct at rates 100 to 1000 times faster than in geological
times. Malcolm McCallum, author of Vertebrate Biodiversity Losses Point to a Sixth Mass Extinction
brings the grim figures to light,
The human race faces many global to local challenges in the near future. Among these are massive
biodiversity losses. The 2012 IUCN/SSC Red List reported evaluations of ~56 % of all vertebrates.
This included 97 % of amphibians, mammals, birds, cartilaginous fishes, and hagfishes. It also
contained evaluations of ~50 % of lampreys, ~38 % of

Asian Americans And Asian American Actors
Since the first half of the 19th century, Asian Americans have been involved in the media industry
when the original Siamese Twins Chang and Eng Bunker became naturalized citizens of America.
Roles in television and other media were scarce for Asian Americans, only available roles were very
stereotypical. Early Asian American actors such as Bruce Lee and Sessue Hayakawa could only land
stereotypical supporting roles in prime time television. While minority actors have progress through
the years, Asian Americans in the media remains an issue. The misrepresentation of Asians Americans
that continues the tendency of stereotypes and type casting. To this day, Asians Americans take on
roles that tends to portray the stereotypical roles. Asian Americans becomes easily targeted and
exploited from such representation. Model Minority Stereotype is consistently express through
advertising and primetime television; Asians being nerdy: having type casted into professional roles
ignoring real values and cultures, Asian women: seen as hypersexual, erotic, cunning and dangerous,
Asian men: dangerous, unfriendly, master of martial arts, undesirable male partners and weak. Media
representation of Asian Americans in America s media history, continue to influence and reproduce
dominant Americentric impressions, rather than the true authentic depiction of Asian American culture

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria And Antibiotics
Bacterial infections are becoming resistant to antibiotics due to people that are sick and receive an
antibiotic from their doctor; but as soon as they start to feel better they stop taking the antibiotic. If
you stop taking antibiotics before the treatment is over can cause the bacteria to return stronger and
this time resistant to that antibiotic. Another reason that certain bacteria s are becoming resistant to
antibiotics is due to patients expecting doctors to prescribe antibiotics to them even though they have a
viral infection not a bacterial one. Antibiotics are among the most commonly prescribed drugs used in
human medicine. However, up to 50% of all the antibiotics prescribed for people are not needed or are
not optimally effective as prescribed. ( Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria. ). Because of the large amount of
antibiotics we take we are killing off our normal flora, which helps us digest our food. Multi drug
resistance is when a bacterium has mutated due to the use of too many antibiotics or due to incorrect
use. When a bacterium is determined as resistant it means that even at a therapeutic level the antibiotic
is not breaking down the cell wall, which means the bacterium will continue to multiply and spread.
The largest cause of resistance is overuse and the incorrect use of antibiotics. Giving incorrect
amounts of antibiotics can cause the good bacteria in your body to become dangerous bacteria;
creating a dangerous multi drug resistant infection all

Summary Of Rabindranath Tagore And Sri Aurobindo
Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Aurobindo are the first Indian dramatists in English worth considering.
Tagore wrote primarily in Bengali but almost all his Bengali plays are now available to us in English
renderings. His important plays are Chitra, The Post Office, Sacrifice, Red Oleanders, Chandalika,
Mukta Dhara and Natir Puja. The plays are firmly rooted in Indian ethos and present an unusually
original dramatic vision. As Jain puts it: In these plays, there is an attempt to capture and present basic
contradictions of life in a bigger perspective and with contemporary relevance; there is also a bold and
creative experiment to synthesize some of the techniques and dramatic usages of the Sanskrit theatre

Miracles play a very important part of these plays and unless the reader comes to them with a willing
suspension of disbelief, the plays will not make sense to them. More than being a writer of spiritual
aspect of human life, the playwright is known for his plays depicting social realism. The country in the
1930s, as has already been talked about, was surging with the spirit of nationalism and constant
attempts were made to edify the ills of the society. As Iyengar says of the Five Plays, [It] contains
some of his characteristic work as a playwright revealing his social consciousness, flair for realism,
and the bite in his prose writing (233). His play, The Window, gives a pathetic account of the
condition of the slum life of workers in a factory and ends with the workers protesting against the
owners. The Parrot too deals with the life of the poor, while in The Coffin, the theme is that of schism
between the imaginary world and the world of harsh reality. The importance of edifying in the real
world instead of delving into the imaginary world is reiterated through the play. The Sentry s Lantern
is a symbolic display of the arrival of better times; a revolution, which will benefit the poor and the
downtrodden and which will usher in an era of communism. The Evening Lamp, too talks about a
revolution, which will usher in a glorious era. In his works, it is clearly

This structure decided on how the roles, power, responsibilities of each and every individual are
assigned to controlled and coordinated the flows of information between the different level in a

We used organizational chart to illustrates the organizational structure in showing the different levels
of management.
The 3 core dimensions of an organization structure are Complexity, Centralization and Formalization.
Complexity
Gareth R (2010) define Organizational complexity, the number of different function and divisions
possessed by an organization, determining the level of differentiation,. in this organizational structure,
differentiation is high. Basically there are 2 types of differentiation Vertical and Horizontal also known
as Tall Flat Structure.
Vertical differentiation, the way an organization designs its hierarchy of authority and creates
reporting relationships to connect organizational roles and subunits. Lower levels report to higher
levels. In Ghee Hoe, Mechanic is to report to workshop foreman and foreman is to report to Manager
and Manager is to report to Chief Director (the man who has the most power and authority).
Horizontal differentiation, the way an organization groups organizational tasks into roles, and roles
into subunits, establishing the division of labor. In Ghee Hoe, the spare part and workshop function
made up a spare part division provide services to customer who need services to

The, Virtue, By Socrates And Meno
In this paper, I try to discuss the sixth chapter in the book which focuses on the definition of virtue.
This passage mainly goes through dialogues between Socrates and Meno, who debated with each
other in order to make a certain definition of virtue. In the passage, Socrates gave his opinion of virtue
and tried to make Meno understand his ideas, while Meno held his opinion. In fact, virtue is rather
difficult to be defined. Even though both Socrates and Meno had contemplated what virtue, it is still
hard to give a definition of it. Also, trying to make a certain definition of virtue is also the broad aim
of the whole book Plato s Meno. This book was written by Plato, which is filled with Socrates
dialogues. It aims to make sure the essence of virtue. From this portion in the book, I can see that the
aim of this passage could make a difference in helping reach the entire aim of the book. In this paper, I
prepared to explain the content of the passage as well as some important concepts. What s more, I aim
to mark out the difficult and important ideas, thoughts I have gained in the process of reading. At the
same time, I will also cite my personal experiences in order to support the ideas in the passage.
At first, I will talk about the contents of this passage. This passage is concerning what virtue is. The
argument is whether virtue could be learned by or gift by God. Socrates believed that virtue was gift
by God and it was hard to cite a universal definition of virtue.

Islamic Possession Of Firearms And Explosives
On Feburary 28, 1993, at Mount Carmel in Waco, Texas, agents from the ATF launched a morning
raid against the Branch Davidian compound as part of an investigation involving the group and the
illegal possession of firearms and explosives. The Branch Davidians, led by David Koresh were a
splinter sect of the Seventh day Adventist. As the agents attempted to breach the complex, gunfire
erupted, that begin a fierce bun fight that ultimately left four ATF agents dead and 15 others wounded.
The Branch Davidians had six mortally wounded, and many others injured, including David Koresh,
who was wounded by the front door of the compound. A central aspect of Koresh s teachings was his

They were soon joined by Bradley tanks, which fired tear gas canisters through the compound s
windows. The cult members, many with gas masks on, refused to leave, and around 11:40 a.m. the
operation was completed with about 100 canisters of tear gas being fired into the building. Then just
after noon, a fire could be seen coming from multiple locations within the compound, and minutes
later nine members fled the rapidly spreading blaze. Sounds of gunfire were reported, but soon ceased
as the place became completely engulfed by the flames. Koresh and at least 80 of his followers,
including 22 children, died during the government s second assault on their home. The FBI and DOJ
maintained there was conclusive evidence that the members ignited the fire. On the subject of gunfire
during the fire, the government argued that the Davidians were either killing each other as part of a
suicide pact or they were killing dissenters who attempted to escape the ordered suicide by fire. All the
surviving member contest this official government position, along with critics in the press and around
the world, whose cases against the ATF and FBI s handling of the Waco standoff range from
incompetence to premeditated murder. The conspiracy between the FBI, President Clinton, and Janet
Reno resulted in one of the worst, darkest, and most grievous days in our national history. Waco

Introduction:
A biometric is defined as a unique, measurable, biological characteristic or trait which is used to
identify individuals. Most widely used biometric characteristics to identify individuals include Face,
Fingerprint, Hand geometry, Retina, Iris, Voice etc.
Biometric identification consists of two stages:
Enrollment: During the enrollment stage, a sample biometric is acquired from the individual. Unique
characteristics this sample are then extracted to form a biometric template which is used for
subsequent comparison.

Most widely used biometric trait for this Biometric Encryption include Fingerprint, Face Recognition,
Hand Geometry, Iris Scan, etc.
The key is generated again only if the correct live biometric sample is provided on verification. The
digital key (password, PIN, etc.) is randomly generated on enrolment, so that the user (or anybody
else) does not even know it. This key is independent of biometric so, it can always be changed or
updated. The Biometric Encryption template can be stored either in a database or locally (smart card,
laptop, cell phone, etc.). On verification, the user presents their fresh biometric sample (which acts as
decryption key), which retrieves the same key or password [2].
Applications of Biometric Encryption:
Access control
Biometric ticketing
Biometric boarding cards for travel
Identification, credit, and loyalty card systems
Consumer biometric payment systems etc.
Advantages of Biometric Encryption:
No retention of the biometric image or template.
The key is completely independent of biometric thus can easily be changed or updated.
Single biometric for multiple accounts.
There is no need to memorize long passwords.
Improved security of personal data and communications.
Greater confidence, trust, and use of biometrics by the public.
Major challenges for Biometric Encryption:
Loss of individual control over one s personal data.
Data matching, surveillance and profiling.
Significant security risks, especially

The Salt Lake Times Case Analysis
Iowa is known to having a water problem for years according to Art Cullen, a local resident and a
writer for The Salt Lake Times . The main reason that lead towards the nitrate problem are watersheds.
Which led to drainage districts being sued affirms Cullen.(1) To attempt to fix that problem Governor
Terry Branstad wants to take $4.7 billion of the schools taxes to devote it to fixing the water problem.
(1) According to Cullen, Branstad presented a study towards the public from highly respected
economists from Iowa stating that while going forth with the plan will create $692 million in
economic activity and 2,800 jobs annually . These were the same economists that made the watershed
and this is one of their ways of fixing the mess. The economists have made many other inventions like
bioreactors, wetland conversions, and cover crops.(1) In which Cullen agrees that they all work until
you consider the shallow lakes in Northwest Iowa are being converted to marshes plus he says Iowa
can not afford to build enough of the inventions to farm as much as the farmers want because of the
cost in which is more than what Governor Branstad is taking from school taxes.(1)However, Cullen
agrees otherwise, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Christian worldview is presented as simply one choice among many. Generally speaking, every
religion is treated reasonably fairly, and every religion gets misrepresented to a certain extent. In the
film Morgan Freeman and, the producers of the film admire, and respect the worldview of the eastern
religions for instance Buddhism and Hinduism. It is evident in how much time is given to the various
religious perspectives, can definitely be discerned in the concluding summaries, and is even
sometimes apparent in Freeman s tone of voice. Even though this film was presented in class, and I do
not know much about Hinduism or Buddhism, the film shows those two religions as monolithic, with
most followers of those religions as sharing the same beliefs. This though is false. Hinduism has many
aspects to it like a mixture of pantheistic, polytheistic, and even monotheistic qualities. There are
many elements that form a Buddhist religion, and not only one concept of following it. (Yoshida

Rhetorical Analysis of a The New York Times Article Essay
The article titled The man with the snow job appears in the Opinion Pages, The New York Times.
Author, Gail Collins, opens her article with the question: Who is to blame for this weather? which
hooks readers attention and makes them curious about what they are going to read. In her writing,
Collins talks about the current snowstorm in the United States and how it is used for everyone s
advantage. She also points out how government officials such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Gore,
George W. Bush, and Barack Obama use the occasion of snowfall for their own purposes. The author
borrows images of global warming effects to discuss some controversial problems in the society these
days. She applies the following elements to establish the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The expression is frequently applied to people who abuse their authority to avoid criticism or to
deflect guilt or mistake. Therefore, I understand that the man with the snow job here implies a group
of government official. The following metaphor is made when she introduces the email sent from
Rahm Emanuel who is in the race for Chicago mayor. The author says that Rahm wasted no time in
sending off a storm related e mail, offering a few helpful tips on how to weather the weather.
(Collins). Rahm Emanuel is giving some snowstorm survival tips that every citizen already knows. Is
it difficult for Chicagoans to survive a snowstorm without Rahm s leadership?
Another metaphor is made when she says: We are sick of bad weather and looking for a dumping
place for all our bad vibrations (Collins). In this case, bad weather does not literally mean climate
change. It implies the bad political and economical situations that people have been undergoing
recently such as pension problem, political corruption, and global warming. A dumping place can be
considered as a specific person who we can blame to.
To support for the sarcastic tone, Collins additionally makes a sophisticated simile: We would like to
blame one specific person like the evil queen in the movie Red Sonja who used a magic orb to destroy
entire civilizations with terrible storms until she was vanquished by Red Sonja and Arnold
Schwarzenegger. (Collins). Arnold Schwarzenegger, the 38th

that is where her body is buried because your mother is caring and loving. So women are shown as
forgiving loving, which are all good qualities but they can be seen as weak. Which in the tribe they are

women help each other raise the children which is a big task considering all else they have to do.

Carbon Dioxide Is Able To Influence Emissions
Carbon FRQ
a) Carbon is able to form covalent bonds with hydrogen and other atoms because it has four valence

the potential to form single, double, or triple bonds.
b) The greenhouse effect refers to radiation from the sun as it warms the earth. This is caused by the
presence of several greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide being one of them. Carbon dioxide is formed

  • 2. Amy Tan And Firoozeh Dumas Essay In contrast, Amy Tan and Firoozeh Dumas struggled with accepting their culture. Tan s parents emigrated from China and settled in Oakland, California. She grew up in a Chinese culture and has struggled to accept it. Her family customs and physical appearances have made Amy feel different from Americans. On Christmas Eve Tan s mother invited Robert, Amy s crush, and his family for dinner. Amy was horrified when she found out that her mother invited Robert and his American family. She thought they would be disappointed with the food her mother prepared, the Chinese Christmas decorations and her loud and unsuitable mannered relatives. Throughout the dinner, Tan s relatives displayed inappropriate behaviors that threw her off. Their behavior was inappropriate that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These kinds of behaviors are what caused Amy to think of changing her culture and become more American. Unlike Amy Tan, Firoozeh Dumas struggled with identity. Moving from Iran with her family, Dumas has struggled with teasing and bullying because of her. Dumas s name Firoozeh means Turquoise in Farsi. While living in the US, ignorant people have made fun of Firoozeh s name. In the essay The F Word, Dumas narrates about the struggles of having a different name that s always pronounced wrong because ignorant Americans refuse to learn it. She also talks about how her brothers and friend suffered with this too. Dumas not only struggled with ignorant people not pronouncing her name right, she could not get a job. When she was young, Dumas decided to change her name to Julie. Having an American name changed everything for her. Students at her school began to recognize her and invite her to social gatherings. Once she got to college, Dumas changed her name back to Firoozeh. But that became a problem after she graduated because she could not find a job. • 4. Descriptive Essay On Living In A Room Living in a Dorm Room While most freshman choose to live in a dorm room their first year of college, there can be some negative and positive outcomes when living with someone else. It can be hard to cope with the other person or it can be easy to cope with the other person you are sharing a room with. Sometimes on the other hand, it can easily become dramatically annoying, difficult, and disruptive to others in the room, like I think it did to me. Although I do believe living in a dorm can be much of a transformation from living in a house, every college student, like I did last year, has to experience the part of living in a dorm. Or experience being in a dorm room at one point during their college experience, if he/she chooses to go the college route. Last year, while living in a college dorm at my other college before I became a transfer student, I had to share my room with one other girl that was a thrower in Track and Field, who was all muscle and about a foot taller than me topping off at probably 6 3 . I was terrified of her, if I did something wrong or if I said something wrong in general, she would have probably kicked my butt, literally. So, I decided from the first time I saw her to keep things to myself and mind my own opinion, of course not telling her my point of view on everything she did wrong, because I did not want to get hurt. It all started when she never cleaned up after herself, which made it very easy for me to become annoyed by her and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Feminist Perspective On Prostitution Prostitution is often referred to as the world s oldest profession, and yet, it is also one of the most controversial. Utilizing multiple perspectives to understand certain issues may aid in the creating strategies for equality (Levan, Unit 1 , 10). Different feminist theories have varying opinions regarding prostitution, and this paper will attempt to address the concerns that each framework brings in order to promote justice. One of the main arguments surrounding prostitution is whether or not this type of work should be legalized. Some argue that this work should be decriminalized so that people who want to work in this field can. This would be voluntary work, unlike those who are forced into it via human trafficking. In the course text, it is explained that Marxist theory recognizes that choices ... made in the context of economic or political pressures [can] narrow the possible and desirable choices (Levan, Unit 3 , 57). In the context of prostitution, this may mean that people are choosing the field because it is an accessible type of work that will pay the bills, as opposed to doing it purely out of choice. From a Marxist, perspective, this means that the workers do not have freedom (Levan, Unit 3 , 57). Additionally, if the workers were not able to recognize that they were being coerced into this field by economic necessity, Marxist feminists would claim that they are living with false consciousness. Levan describes this as the failure for one to see their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. I Am Passionate About Food Exploratory Essay A majority of individuals that inhabit this universe were not born with a talent. I, unfortunately was no exception. I grew up stumbling through different sports teams and art classes. From playing games of softball to attending pottery classes, nothing really stuck to me. I was beginning to doubt I would ever find anything I was truly passionate about until recently. I have realized that I am passionate about food. Not just eating it, but also studying it as it is processed though the body. I was initially introduced to nutrition through my own poor eating habits. I was on the verge of becoming obese when visited a Nutritionist. I was very overwhelmed with my diet changes at first, but then became amazed at how much better I felt mentally and physically. I was so inspired by this that I decided that becoming a Nutritionist would be something that I want to do for a living. The quizzes from The College Foundation of North Carolina seemed to support my decisions as well, making me even more confident to pursue a career doing my passion. Even though making a decision about what I want to do for the rest of my life is an enormous deal, I am confident that becoming a nutritionist is the goal in my educational plan. I am an extremely indecisive individual, but the passion I encompass for living a healthy lifestyle through food is enough to make me determined to pursue this career. Max Bemis is no stranger to pushing boundaries and this album reflects the ways he continues to do that. Unlike most artists who release a few songs before the album drops, Bemis decided to take a different approach in not just his music, but also his way of presenting it. This album was a complete surprise and it was dropped as is with no songs leading up to the release. I was excited to see that one of my favorite bands released a new album. After hearing it for the first time I came to one conclusion, Say Anything s I Don t Think It Is, is perfectly imperfect in every way imaginable. This album was unlike anything I have ever heard. It started off with the song Give A Damn. Bemis was screaming out his lungs, basically going on a rant with this song setting the tone for the rest of the album. The chorus says, We don t give a damn what they say repeated over and over. This is not unusual for Say Anything, since they have always challenged the ideas of others. • 8. Fatima Mernissi s Dreams Of Trespass The story of Fatima Mernissi is truly an enchanting and empowering one. In the book Dreams of Trespass, we are given a glimpse of the young girl s adventurous life in a traditional Moroccan harem during the 1940 s and early 1950 s. Through her journey in the harem, we see how life in the harem can be enchanting and confined at the same time. In this book, Fatima elaborates life in a traditional Moroccan harem, what a harem really means, the many women in her life that continuously challenge the norms of her culture and society, and how that has inspired her to dream big and work towards achieving freedom outside of the frontiers. That is something I too asked myself multiple times while reading the book. That is something that Fatima herself questioned many times while she was growing up. Something I immediately began to adore about Fatima while reading her tales was her unstoppable curiosity and need to ask questions. She asks many questions to feel more knowledgeable and to understand her surroundings. However, as we learn about the many things forbidden inside the harem, Fatima tells us that asking too many questions is one of them. That is only because asking a question such as what is a harem? is not really a question that the adults will volunteer to answer (Mernissi, 39). Like many children do, Fatima and her cousins loved to break rules. Fatima, Samir, and their other cousin, Malika used to occasionally climb onto the forbidden terrace. According to Fatima, Samir and Malika s main purpose to climb onto the highest terrace was to push their investigation of harems further. They would sit there and ponder on the unanswered questions by the adults and find out the truth behind these questions. They would ask each other rather simple questions: Is a harem a house in which a man lives with many wives? Do all married men have harems? Can you have more than one master in a harem? (Mernissi, 150) As simple as these questions sound, they figured that the answers to these questions were more complicated than they thought. They used their own harem and other harems they knew up to answers these questions but eventually never found the true answer. While many of the adults gave different answers to what a harem, it was truly Lalla Yasmina, Fatima s maternal grandmother who gave her true closer on the definition of a harem. She explained to Fatima, The word harem was a slight variation to the word haram, the forbidden, the proscribed. It was the opposite of halal, the permissible. Harem was the place where ... Air Canada s mission has always remained the same, connecting Canada and world (Air Canada, 2016), but their visions and goals, have transformed. Air Canada s early strategy was to grow the business, with minimal concern about their staff members and customers. Without any benefits or rewards their staff felt underappreciated. Their customers felt as though their feedback wasn t being heard but in the eyes of Air Canada as long as their business was expanding, they were satisfied. This was evident with the purchase of Canadian Airlines, in 1999 (The National, 2003). With the purchase of this airline, Air Canada also inherited their estimated eight billion dollar debt (The National, 2003). Also inherited from the merger, were underappreciated employees and under trained employees who lacked morale (The National, 2003). In 2003, Air Canada filed for bankruptcy (The National, 2003), this was due to the large financial deficit, the economy and the underappreciated/paid employees. Although, this was a difficult time for the airline, this truly marked the change in how the airline is structured. In 2005, it marked the true return of Air Canada, they reached record breaking revenues and far exceeded anyone s expectation, including their own. Currently Air Canada, is the largest Canadian Airline, which has a lot to do with their change in business strategy. Air Canada is now an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Importance Of Wealth And A Consumerist Nation Derek Crosby Online British Literature 6 August 2015 Social Classholes: The Importance of Wealth Historically and in a Consumerist Nation One of the most important aspects of any novel is the theme. Furthermore, themes that express practicalities that people in the real world deal with regularly are that much more effecting. That s why novels like Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre are timeless; their themes are extremely important and will forever ring true in society. Most prevalently of the themes in these novels is social class. Social class is something that has been, and always will be, very important to society; as happens in the novels, people are unjustly judged based upon their monetary position in society. For the setting of the stories, these people saw nothing wrong with this prejudice; and this was also a truth in reality. The more privileged were more eligible for happiness. When studying history, literature, and just the normal everyday life, social class pops up into nearly every medium. In the United States, the relevance and importance of social class is absolutely enormous. The hulking impact that class and stature has on people is largely apart of the nations problems. Statistics are shocking; the amount of homeless people, or just the population of people in poverty in all, is a number to be dealt with. The numbers are astounding; ninety percent of all American citizens share one percent of the wealth. The other ninety ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Review of Literature Issue: The rapid increase in the extinction rate of plant and animal species has proven to be a massive issue regarding biodiversity loss. Anil Markandya, from the Basque center for Climate Change and author of The Economic Feedbacks of Loss of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services says, Globally, terrestrial biodiversity is projected to decrease by a further 10% by 2050. As with biodiversity, the planet has also experienced major losses in the services derived from ecosystems. During the last century, for example, the planet has lost 50% of its wetlands, 40% of its forests and 35% of its mangroves. Around 60% of global ecosystem services have been degraded in just 50 years. This loss of Biodiversity is a phenomenon that has currently been under scrutiny. Markandya states The topic of biodiversity loss has been the subject of a vast and growing scientific and economic literature. Species are estimated to be going extinct at rates 100 to 1000 times faster than in geological times. Malcolm McCallum, author of Vertebrate Biodiversity Losses Point to a Sixth Mass Extinction brings the grim figures to light, The human race faces many global to local challenges in the near future. • 20. Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria And Antibiotics Bacterial infections are becoming resistant to antibiotics due to people that are sick and receive an antibiotic from their doctor; but as soon as they start to feel better they stop taking the antibiotic. If you stop taking antibiotics before the treatment is over can cause the bacteria to return stronger and this time resistant to that antibiotic. Another reason that certain bacteria s are becoming resistant to antibiotics is due to patients expecting doctors to prescribe antibiotics to them even though they have a viral infection not a bacterial one. Antibiotics are among the most commonly prescribed drugs used in human medicine. However, up to 50% of all the antibiotics prescribed for people are not needed or are not optimally effective as prescribed. ( Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria. ). Because of the large amount of antibiotics we take we are killing off our normal flora, which helps us digest our food. Multi drug resistance is when a bacterium has mutated due to the use of too many antibiotics or due to incorrect use. When a bacterium is determined as resistant it means that even at a therapeutic level the antibiotic is not breaking down the cell wall, which means the bacterium will continue to multiply and spread. The largest cause of resistance is overuse and the incorrect use of antibiotics. Giving incorrect amounts of antibiotics can cause the good bacteria in your body to become dangerous bacteria; creating a dangerous multi drug resistant infection all ... • 22. Summary Of Rabindranath Tagore And Sri Aurobindo Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Aurobindo are the first Indian dramatists in English worth considering. Tagore wrote primarily in Bengali but almost all his Bengali plays are now available to us in English renderings. His important plays are Chitra, The Post Office, Sacrifice, Red Oleanders, Chandalika, Mukta Dhara and Natir Puja. The plays are firmly rooted in Indian ethos and present an unusually original dramatic vision. As Jain puts it: In these plays, there is an attempt to capture and present basic contradictions of life in a bigger perspective and with contemporary relevance; there is also a bold and creative experiment to synthesize some of the techniques and dramatic usages of the Sanskrit theatre and the traditional modes like the ... Miracles play a very important part of these plays and unless the reader comes to them with a willing suspension of disbelief, the plays will not make sense to them. More than being a writer of spiritual aspect of human life, the playwright is known for his plays depicting social realism. The country in the 1930s, as has already been talked about, was surging with the spirit of nationalism and constant attempts were made to edify the ills of the society. As Iyengar says of the Five Plays, [It] contains some of his characteristic work as a playwright revealing his social consciousness, flair for realism, and the bite in his prose writing (233). His play, The Window, gives a pathetic account of the condition of the slum life of workers in a factory and ends with the workers protesting against the owners. The Parrot too deals with the life of the poor, while in The Coffin, the theme is that of schism between the imaginary world and the world of harsh reality. The importance of edifying in the real world instead of delving into the imaginary world is reiterated through the play. The Sentry s Lantern is a symbolic display of the arrival of better times; a revolution, which will benefit the poor and the downtrodden and which will usher in an era of communism. The Evening Lamp, too talks about a revolution, which will usher in a glorious era. In his works, it is clearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This passage mainly goes through dialogues between Socrates and Meno, who debated with each other in order to make a certain definition of virtue. In the passage, Socrates gave his opinion of virtue and tried to make Meno understand his ideas, while Meno held his opinion. In fact, virtue is rather difficult to be defined. Even though both Socrates and Meno had contemplated what virtue, it is still hard to give a definition of it. Also, trying to make a certain definition of virtue is also the broad aim of the whole book Plato s Meno. This book was written by Plato, which is filled with Socrates dialogues. It aims to make sure the essence of virtue. From this portion in the book, I can see that the aim of this passage could make a difference in helping reach the entire aim of the book. In this paper, I prepared to explain the content of the passage as well as some important concepts. What s more, I aim to mark out the difficult and important ideas, thoughts I have gained in the process of reading. At the same time, I will also cite my personal experiences in order to support the ideas in the passage. At first, I will talk about the contents of this passage. This passage is concerning what virtue is. The argument is whether virtue could be learned by or gift by God. Socrates believed that virtue was gift by God and it was hard to cite a universal definition of virtue. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
