Speech On Spider Phobias
One day, I watched the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with two friends. When the
snakes appeared, a friend immediately covered her eyes with her hand. Then there were many
butterflies in the movie. Another friend said, Oh, my God, butterfly! Feifei, tell me after they fly
away! What?Beautiful butterfly? I can understand some people fear of the snakes, but I am a little
surprised that some people are afraid for the butterflies or rainbow.
B. Audience Relevance: Probably you or your friends fear something such as spiders, mice, airplanes,
blood, dentists, or oceans. If it influences some people s work and life, they may have phobias.
C. Credibility: My mum fear rainbow, and my friend scare butterfly. These are unusual cases, but
spider phobia is common. I am interesting in phobias especially spider phobia, and I want to explore
more information about this topic.
D. Thesis Statement: Spider phobia is a powerful, irrational fear of the spider, and it is one of the most
common fears. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Main Point Preview: First, I will explain what spider phobia is. Second, I will introduce some
treatments for spider phobia.
Ⅱ. Main Point 1: Spider phobia is a specific phobia, and it influences people s work and living. A.
According to the article written by E. Landau in 2010, for CNN. Many American have at least one
specific phobia, agoraphobia, or social phobia. More than 19 million American adults have a specific
phobia and that approximately 1.8 million American adults have agoraphobia, which typically
develops about age 20. In addition, about 15 million American adults are suffered from social phobia.
Phobias comes from a mixture of environmental and genetic factors. The article written by J.

What Is The Summer Trip Essay
Summer Trips Another feature of life in Rome was the summer trip. Each of us could travel for a
month during summer vacation, but if a member of one s family came over, we could travel longer, six
weeks or even two months. There were also some established itineraries. One was the shrine run and
another was the beer run. My first summer, the summer of 1957, I traveled with Victor Galeone and
Ralph Platz on the shrine run. We flew to Barcelona on an inexpensive student flight, did some
sightseeing there which included a one day pilgrimage to the Benedictine monastery at Monserrat
which is associated with St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). From
Barcelona we flew to Madrid near which there were many places of interest to us, e.g. Toledo, El
Escorial (burial place of Spanish kings) and Avila where the shrine of St. Teresa of Avila, Carmelite
nun and mystic, is located. From Madrid we had planned to take the train to ... Show more content on

After a long trip back to Madrid we went to San Sabastian in the Basque country where we had a
friend from the Greg. He showed us the town which was extremely beautiful. (Franco spent his
summers there, and his yacht was in the harbor.) Our friend told us that one of the vices of the
Basques was gluttony, and the bishop had had to put limits on post ordination banquets lest they
scandalize the laity. Next came Lourdes which I found much more moving than Fatima. Especially
inspiring at Lourdes was the nighttime candle procession with everyone singing familiar hymns. Next
stop was the home of St. Jean Vianney, known as the Cure d Ars, whose below average IQ made
Latin, philosophy, and theology too difficult for him, but the bishop ordained him anyway, and he

Buggy Essay
Introduction For this project, the groups with 5 people were expected to just design while groups of 7
people were to design and build a buggy system powered by wind that could potentially be ridden on
different types of terrain such as an open grass field, a beach, sand dunes, icy field (frozen lake) or a
snow field. The wind power will be captured with a kite that can vary in size and shape, depending on
not just the weight of the rider, the weight and size of the buggy but also wind speed. The buggy
should be designed and built in such a way that the rider can choose to simply ride it on a straight and
curved pathway. In addition, the rider should be able to make the buggy make wide and sharp turns in
different directions. The buggy should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theoretical background for the project will be stated. The design process for the buggy system as
well as a detailed manufacturing procedure of the prototype will then be described. An interpretation
of the results from the design process will then be presented. The figures, tables graphs used will be
compared against one another as well as compared against theoretical results. Any issues stated during
the design process will be addressed. The report will then summarize the overall findings and then

Reflection On Competency
I am very confident with the course competencies. Over the past few months while working in the
classroom that I have been working in for the past three years I really focused on the competencies
and evaluating myself and how I could better these skills. At the beginning of the semester I rated
myself at a 90 percent for my confidence in the competencies, now I would rate myself at a 100
percent. Not only did I evaluate myself, I was constantly asking the lead teacher in my classroom how
I was doing with the competencies. This really helped me zero in on the skills and think about ways
that I could use the different skills, change how I did some things, and continue to do the skills that I
was already strong at. When I started off the semester I found that my weakness was doing full
observations. I would find myself making short quick notes and then I would have a hard time getting
a full observation. I decided that I was going to focus on getting better at observations I did. When
making observations about children s behavior or their skills I would write the short notes that had the
information that I needed, then I would write the observation out that same day in a longer format. I
did it the same day so that I could remembers everything that was going on or exactly what happened.
This was very helpful for me to create a full observation. Another competency that I worked on over
the semester more than others was using a wide range of positive guidance approaches to

Ethics Of Caring And Virtue
Ethics of Caring and Virtue
Ethics of virtue is the belief that if a person wants to be considered good, they do good things
(Pollock, 1988). In ethics of virtue, happiness is always the outcome of a situation. The main premise
of virtue theory lies upon three main principles; virtues, practical wisdom and eudemonia. A virtue is a
mean state which lays between two vices. A virtue is a characteristic a virtuous person possesses, for
example courage. Courage is a virtue which lays between cowardice and foolhardiness . Virtue can
vary in meaning for each individual depending on their background and history.
Aristotle states that all humans have a one end goal which is called eudaimonia (Greek for happiness),
and that happiness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, only those with good character can be truly happy. Just so that we can live virtuously, we
must avoid extremes and maintain a balance, which Aristotle terms as the golden mean (Pollock,
1988). The golden mean is the balance between the extremes, and we must use rational thinking and
reasoning in a balanced fashion.
Repeated actions lead to a condition, which makes an action distinct from a condition, therefore
meaning one virtuous act does not make a person virtuous. Acts of virtue must become a habit, so that
virtuous acts become second nature. These repeated virtuous acts lead to the condition of virtue, and
the condition of virtue equals good character, and vice versa. This creates an assumption of a link
between being able to see who we are and what we do, between being and doing.
Ethic of Care is a theory of how we care for each other and all of the people around us. It makes us
realize how much we value the human relationship. Ethic of Care theory allows us to see the moral
value that is placed upon our communities, as well as, persons and asserts that one action can possibly
take place in the context relationship. However, the Ethic of Care does not support a dependency
relationship between people. The Ethic of Care is about maintaining a relationship that is very mutual.
We should always try to constantly maintain a relationship that offers both mutual opportunity and
benefits, as well as, consider the implications of

What Are The Events In The Life Of Babe Ruth
The Life Of Babe Ruth
Babe Ruth, born George Ruth, Jr., is considered by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time.
Everybody knows how great a hitter Babe was and how he virtually invented the home run. Not
everybody knows how great of a pitcher Babe was, even though he was one of the best left handed
pitchers of all time. Babe had a 92 and 44 record, 67.6%, and a 2.24 career earned run average in 163
games pitched. Not many career .342 hitters that averaged a home run every 11.8 at bats can say that.
George Ruth, Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on February 6, 1895, son of George Herman Ruth,
Sr. and Kate Ruth. George took the name of Herman at his confirmation ... Show more content on

Babe Ruth. At first George thought the name, Babe, was a joke, but after a while it became like a
proper name, and everybody called him Babe.
After an impressive showing in the International League, Babe and the rest of the Oriole team were
put up for sale. The Boston Red Sox bought Babe and he saw his first major league action on July
11,1914, as he took the mound against the Cleveland Naps. Babe ended up winning the game 4 3 after
pitching seven innings and letting up only three runs on five hits. The Red Sox sent
Ruth to the International League to play on the Providence team, to get some more experience. At
Providence, Ruth had a record of 11 wins and 2 loses. On
September 5, Ruth won a game 9 0, only letting up one hit, but more significantly he hit his first and
only minor league home run.
The Red Sox brought Ruth back up after the Providence team won the pennant and Ruth pitched in
one game without decision. While in Boston, Ruth almost always went to Landers coffee shop and his
usual waitress was a girl named Helen Woodford. During breakfast one morning Ruth looked up at
Helen and said, How about you and me getting married, hon? After thinking it over for a couple of
minutes, Helen accepted his proposal. After the baseball season,
Babe and Helen got married in St. Paul s Church, Ellicott City, Maryland, on
October 17,1914. Helen Woodford Ruth stayed out of the public

My College and Career Choices Essay
What do you want to be when you grow up? Is one of the many questions that are asked by teachers
and adults. Through the research and development of this paper, I feel that I am finally prepared to
answer that question. College has always been in my plans but which college? Well, I have it
narrowed down to three excellent and well known colleges. Ohio University of Athens, The Ohio
State University of Columbus and Miami University are the colleges that I feel would foremost
prepare me to become an athletic trainer. My first college choice is Ohio University of Athens; I think
that Ohio University is a prominent university. Also, I like the rural location of the college. This
college provides the classes I need to pursue my career in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Ohio State University (OSU) is my second college choice. Being a Buckeye has been a dream of
mine since I knew what college was, but with the research I have done, I do not like the size or
location of the college, however OSU does offer a really good athletic training program and that s
what interests me most about the college. College is not cheap or easy but it is doable. Tuition for
OSU is $11,285 per semester (collegecalc.org). With a larger college there is going to be a larger
enrollment number. According to (osu.edu) there is an average of 50,000 students enrolled at OSU.
Having a large variety of choices in majors is convenient. A total of 175 majors are offered at OSU
(osu.edu).The recommended ACT score ranges from 26 30 (osu.edu). Scholarships and financial aid
are both offered at OSU. The scholarships offered at OSU are various types of merit scholarships
awarded to those students who qualify (osu.edu).Financial aid at OSU is like other universities ,they
have grants loans and work study( osu.edu).Like Ohio University , OSU offers extracurricular known
as intramural sports and many other programs. Although it is not my first choice if I get the chance I
would become a Buckeye. Last but certainly not least, Miami University of Oxford, Ohio would be
my third choice. Miami University is another well known college that also has a rural location. This

Noises Off Play Essay
On Tuesday the twenty first of March my mother and I went to the beautiful San Francisco Playhouse,
to watch a play within a play called Noises Off! written by Michael Frayn. I originally had my
reservations about the play, without doing any research about the play ahead of time I didn t know
quite what to expect. I knew that it was a comedy and that it was about a second rate comedy troupe.
But I ended up being pleasantly surprised by it and really liked Noises Off! This play is a classic case
of a farce based off of plot complications, the interactions between the cast is what really makes it
enjoyable.
The San Francisco Playhouse is located on the second floor of the Kensington Hotel directly in the
center of San Francisco s theatre district. We sat in the balcony across from the Proscenium stage with
seating down below as well. With stage lighting, hanging from the ceiling and on the walls pointing at
the stage. The ceiling was made of wood with different patterns carved ... Show more content on

The play is three acts with one intermission and shows the first act of a fictional play called Nothing
On from three different nights on their ten week tour: the technical rehearsal, one night a month later,
and a final towards the end of the tour. With each new showing, we see the characters at different
stages and in different relations to each other. Which more than the script itself makes the show what
it is, a farce, a comedy riddled with plot complications; an unready crew, a relationship gone awry, and
finally a tired crew and props breaking and winding up in the wrong hands at the wrong time. This
play while a simple one is something that almost anyone can enjoy and leaves one laughing in the end.
So while it has no life lesson or political affirmation to leave one thinking about in the end it s just
what is needed in this day and

Heat Transfer Lab Report
UNSTEADY STATE HEAT TRANSFER
Heat transfer processes are prominent in engineering due to several applications in industry and
environment. Heat transfer is central to the performance of propulsion systems, design of conventional
space and water heating systems, cooling of electronic equipment, and many manufacturing processes
(Campos 3).
Unsteady state conduction is the class of heat transfer in which the temperature of the conducting
medium varies with time and position. This occurs frequently in industrial processes, especially food
preservation and sterilization, where the temperature of the food or of the heating or cooling medium
constantly changes (Farid2).
The work reported here involves the investigation of unsteady state heat ... Show more content on

To achieve this, the final value from each thermocouple was set to be equal to the warm water bath
temperature (370C), and the initial reading was set equal to the ice water bath temperature. Thus, for
each thermocouple an equation was obtained using the two points to convert voltage readings to
temperature. An example of the calibration for one of the thermocouples is shown in Appendix II.
LUMPED ANALYSIS
To determine if a lumped parameter analysis could be applied, the Biot numbers for the systems were
calculated (shown in Table 1).
Table 1: Biot numbers for the aluminum and Plexiglas cylinders. | Bi | Aluminum | 0.07 | Plexiglas | 81
|
Since the Bi value of the aluminum system is less than 0.1, convection from the water to the surface of
the cylinder is the rate limiting heat transfer mechanism. Thus, a lumped parameter analysis can be
safely applied. The Plexiglas system, on the other hand, has a Bi gt; gt; 0.1, and the rate limiting
mechanism is conduction in the cylinder.
The temperature time plot gotten by applying a lumped parameter analysis (Equation 6) to the
Aluminum cylinder was compared to the plot obtained from the thermocouple located closest to center
of the cylinder. This thermocouple is chosen for comparison because it is located farthest from the
heating source and will have a temperature history that differs most from an ideal lumped system.
With this thermocouple, we should therefore obtain the maximum error associated with applying a

A Comparison of George Orwell s Totalitarian World of...
Orwell s Totalitarian World of 1984 is America in 2004
Orwell s allegorical critique of Stalinism in 1984 is often used in capitalist nations as a poignant
literary attack on Communism and other collectivist economic and political systems. The argument
often follows the lines of This is socialism, and as you can see, it doesn t work and just leads to
oppression. We re in a nice capitalist democracy, therefore we are better off. But is that conclusion the
truth?
Orwell didn t just intend 1984 as an attack on communism or socialism; instead it is both an attack and
a rather prophetic warning against any authoritarian structure, including the authoritarian structure of
capitalist democracies. Often we do not equate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The powerful get away with this through propaganda and bias in the media. The telescreens of
America come in the forms of CNN or the New York Times. The corporate media touts the successes
of democracy in foreign nations without saying how it was achieved (through U.S. military and
economic interventions). It has reached the point where the powerful have set America into a
perpetual state of doublethink, where our leaders say one thing but mean the other.
To find examples of this doublethink, one needs only to look at the works of linguistics pioneer Noam
Chomsky. For the last few decades, Chomsky has focused his work on the connections between
language and politics. In his latest book, Profit Over People, Chomsky is forced to differentiate
between democracy (as we think it is) and really existing democratic theory (the counter democratic
system that actually exists). Most of the nations of Latin America and Southeast Asia are currently
running under the really existing democratic theory pushed on them by the USA, a system where real
democracy is only allowed if it serves the business interests of America. Chomsky describes in depth
this anti democracy in many of his works such as What Uncle Sam Really Wants.
The same problems exist with free trade. The media leads Americans to believe that free trade is a
system with glorious benefits for everyone, in which all people are free to participate

How Did Technology Shape American Culture
Technology and music have always been interlinked. As technology improves ways of recording and
distributing music improves. Over history we have gone from scratchy records to clear and portable
MP3s. New and innovative technology have helped to shape America s culture as a nation.
In 1877 the first human voice was recorded by Thomas Edison using tinfoil. He was attempting to
improve the telegraph when he realized that when he moved tape through the machine it made a noise
that sounded similar to speech. He then placed a stylus on to a cylinder made of tinfoil and spoke the
words of Mary had a little lamb into the makeshift machine.

Before music radio stations broadcasted things such as sermons, sports and the news. Department
stores would also have their own stations and they used them to advertise their merchandise.
In 1926 the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began the National Broadcasting Network (NBC).
These were groups of stations that worked with local stations to syndicate radio shows. These shows
focused mostly on music and featured several different live performers. The types of music were
diverse and could vary from country to jazz.
The Golden Age of Radio was the time period of 1930 1955. During this time was the great depression
and radio was a way to listen to music and receive the news for free. It was a cheap way to have
entertainment instead of more expensive ways such as going to a live concert or the movies.
Eventually radio shows and broadcasts about news decreased in popularity. All that was left was
music. Radio networks transitioned to playing prerecorded music of popular artists. The most popular
type of station was a station that plays Top 40. Top 40 is the top 40 songs on the music charts in that
particular time period. FM or radio was introduced soon after this and it instantly became popular

The Mind of a Child
Unlike adults, children cannot be punished even for committing serious crimes such as murder
because the legal system indicates that young children cannot be held responsible for such crimes.
There are biological, cognitive, and emotional or social development factors behind this policy. The
biological argument for this policy holds that a child below six years would be excused from
responsibility for their actions because their part of the brain that helps in strategizing, planning, and
organization is not fully developed(Berger, 2014) . This argument further holds that it will be unfair to
expect a child to have decision making and organizational skills levels as that of adults whose brains
have been fully built. Since a child s brain is not finished being built, they cannot be totally rational;
instead, they rely on the brain s emotional parts. In this scenario under consideration, it is clear that the
child who killed the other seemed to have strongly responded with a gut response and as such he had
not evaluated the consequences of whatever he was doing. Neuropsychologists have found out that the
frontal lobe is involved in many of criminal culpability aspects, and therefore since a child s frontal
lobe is not fully developed, he or she cannot be criminally culpable (Berger, 2014).
The cognitive argument for this policy holds that a child s brain is still under a rigorous cognitive

Cheer Worlds Research Paper
Cheer Worlds is the biggest competition for many cheerleaders around the world. Teams from
everywhere come to compete. There are no pompoms in sight these cheerleaders come with high
flying stunts, and insane tumbling skills. At any moment anything could go wrong. Forty countries
around the world qualify to teams at their premier national championship to compete at worlds. The
first Worlds was held in 2004. That year a level 5 team called Cheer Athletics took home a win. Now
there are different levels depending on your skills so there are many winners from different levels.
Cheer Worlds is held in Orlando, Florida. The reason for cheer worlds being so important is it gives a
chance for the cheerleaders around the world to have their very own Olympics. It can launch a good
future from some girls or boys. Girls and boys both risk their bodies to do something they love. Cheer
worlds has changed many places and teams around them to put hard work and shape up to amazing

The Impact Of Sexual Child Abuse On America
The Impact of Sexual Child Abuse in America Child abuse has been going on for many years. There
are many forms of child abuse, however, there is one that is far worse than the rest; sexual abuse.
Children has a natural instinct to trust too easily and believe what people tell them, especially if they
know those people. Statistics show very high figures of sexual child abuse in America. When children
undergo sexual abuse, it impacts their whole being. There are physical, emotional, and psychologic
effects that could impact a child not only short term but long term as well. When a child is victimized
sexually, they are not aware of the victimization. These types of victimizations could last years before
it is forced to stop. One of the sources describes a story where a women shares her experience of
sexual child abuse. The story will explain what she went through emotionally after the incident. Even
though it was a one time victimization, it still had a long term effect. Educating children and adults
about how to recognize the signs of sexual abuse could be a step closer towards helping innocent
children who are being sexually victimized all around the United States. Summary of Literatures

d. How much overhead cost do you think Bridgeton and the consultants implicitly assumed they
would save by outsourcing these two products?

two products would be 435% of the direct labor dollar cost for those products calculated amount
$53,496.
435% being the overhead rate calculated for the whole pool, at budget time for the model year. e.
From the 1989 budget (exhibit 2), how much overhead cost do you think was actually saved by
outsourcing muffler exhaust systems and oil pans?
Answer: Comparing the direct labor and overhead costs from 1988 and 1989 the actual savings were
270% (as detailed in Table 1)
Table 1 | Direct Labor Cost | Total Overhead Cost | 1988 | $25,294.00 | $109,890.00 | 1989 |
$13,537.00 | $78,157.00 | Difference | $11,757.00 | $31,733.00 | Percentage Savings | (overhead diff/
labor diff) | 270% |
3. For each of the individual overhead accounts at Bridgeton, do you believe the given cost is variable,
fixed, or something else? Why? (Use information or evidence from the case to support your
evaluation, if possible. For most of these costs, there is no single right answer from the case
information, so the goal is to come up with a reasonable estimate.)

Good Faith in Australia Law Essay
Introduction
Since the early 1990s, Australian judicial system has experienced a great flux revolving around the
notion of good faith in the performance the enforcement of contracts. The leading case Renard
Construction (ME) Pty Ltd v Minister for Public Works (Renard) along with Preistly JA s judgment
commenced the controversial introduction of universal obligation of good faith in all contracts. Such
introduction was also confronted by the opposing force of the more conservative judgments, such as
those of Meagher JA in Renard and Gummow J in Service Station Association v Berg Bennett
Associates Pty Ltd . In order to correctly assess the extent to which the High Court of Australia should
recognize that in all contracts, parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Importing legislation from a nation of dissimilar jurisprudential background is likey to create
inconsistency in our current legal framework. Not only is the notion of good faith irreconcilable with
existing common law, the concept itself is vastly uncertain and open to interpretation. It has been
criticized that the misapplication of good faith in contract in US has created a state of confusion
leading to irreconcilable decisions. The definition of good faith in US has largely been uncertain; it
even has been referred as mystery . The illusory nature of good faith will have a negative impact on
our established legal system:
The predictability of the legal outcome of a case in more important that absolute justice........and if that
means that the outcome of disputes is sometimes hard on a party we regard that as an acceptable price
to pay in the interest of the great majority of business litigants.
Certainty is undoubtedly one of the most fundamental concepts of our legal system, without it the
system loses it efficiency, justice and creates unnecessary litigation. Such uncertainty would increase

Copyrights
This exclusive legal right that is given to the original artist to print, perform film, publish or record
literary and authorize others to do so for their material. This protects a physical expression of ideas ,
for example someone has an idea to write a book the content that is written in that book is covered by
the copyright act as it will be unique to the creator. You do not need to register or claim copyright, this
protection is automatic as soon as it is created. If someone steals information or wrongly sells other
work or creation for their own financial benefit then this copy right act will protect the original creator
and he can claim back the money that has been gained by the person who has taken the material
without permission. This protects security and the use of private data as it does not allow anyone to
take data or material without the author permission, if this does happen the user who has taken this
material can be fined and prosecuted as the products does not belong to them, the author can also
decide how his material has been used and if someone breaks his restriction they can also be
prosecuted.
Open Source
This is software or material that is available with the source, this allows users to copy the material and
modify the material, the reason for this is because the creators would believe that if someone can edit
the material for themselves it will be more useful to another persona and will also allow less

A amp;P Essay
It is very common for teenagers to wish to gain some freedom by earning a small income. This is
often achieved through employment at fast food chains, markets, restaurants, and shops. As a result of
the amount of time consumed by these occupations, much of a teenager s life tends to focus on the
people and events that are central to these places of employment. Sammy, the main character in John
Updike s story A amp;P, is a superb representation of the teen employee. p
Updike places his character in a typical setting and allows the readers to view the events of the story
from the perspective of a teen. By doing this, he makes it simple for readers to relate with Sammy and
his experiences. In reflection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After working for approximately three years in a bicycle shop where this characteristic can be easily
observed, I have found that customers will continue on their decided path of examining merchandise
and comparing prices, without regard for any added stimuli. During the busier seasons, it seems
especially true that one could, as stated by Sammy, set off dynamite . . . and the people would by and
large keep reaching and checking (Updike 371). This characteristic alienates the employee from
customers: in most cases, they are held to the belief that finding the lowest priced, lowest quality item
is necessary; they expect the employee to understandingly ring up six pairs of checkered spandex
cycling shorts that have been laying harmlessly dormant in the bargain bin since the 1980 s. Sammy
identifies this idea also by stating, what do these bums do with all that pineapple juice? (Updike 371).

The effort some customers place into catching an employee s mistake could easily establish customers

Sociology Reflection Paper
When I first decided to go back to school at the ripe age of 33, I had no idea what I wanted to study. I
had recently closed my Pedorthic business and needed a change. Due to my fulltime job and five
children, I decided taking online courses would fit into my hectic schedule. In High School I enjoyed
taking Sociology and Psychology so I figured those two classes would be fun and interesting to start
with. Not only have I enjoyed this class, I have decided to major in Sociology. Taking this class
awakened the interest and excitement that I had back in High School. I am looking forward to

Society has long sought to find a definite difference between what is natural and what is too harsh for
children. There are obvious cases of abuse and improper treatment of child laborers as there have been
for years, and it is obvious that it is in no way beneficial to the children to work as they do. There then
comes a question of whether or not something should be done and if so then what. Child labor is an
issue rooted in the very idea that sometimes, the members of society have a responsibility to the rest of
society to work for the good of those people who cannot work for themselves. The children involved
never have and do not now possess the capability to seek change. This ability lies solely in the rest of
society. The issue then becomes a question of how people respond to social responsibility. It is easy to
separate oneself from social responsibilities as many people in the countries of global power, like the
United States, do not have a real or serious problem of child labor. They are really above the problems
of modern child labor as the only real contact that they have with it is when the major companies
therein are accused of contributing to the hiring of unfairly compensated and over worked child
employees.
Child labor stands as a strong example of how some changes must be brought upon by people outside
of the circle. Of those in the Industrial Revolution who

Organizational leadership means the process of improving actions of line managers and decision
makers through better knowledge and understanding. To operate effectively, organizations need to fit
or align themselves with their environment, strategies, capabilities and leadership skills. To compete
successfully in highly competitive and constantly changing business environment, however,
organizations also need to achieve fitness and the ability to learn and change to fit new circumstances.
In other words, firms can lose their competitive advantage through the lapse of time, therefore
leadership skills are the only sustainable competitive advantage firms can have.
After a colleagues discussion, and a series research, we have decided that Hewlett Packard (HP) will
be the subject of our case study for the Organizational Leadership course project. Reason being, the
HP culture speaks, acts, and operates within their values, which will be further elaborated in their
motto that is widely shared at HP, The HP Way . The core organizational values have been embedded
and practiced by their employees over the years proves that HP is one of the best learning
organizations around today.
Hewlett Packard (HP) is one of those companies that have risen to the top. It is a well known company
with a good name and great financial successes. But is this company able to remain at that top? Could

1) Are the four components of Marriott s financial strategy consistent with its growth objective?
a) It is advisable to manage than to own as it is consistent with the growth strategy. In this manner,
mar riot can attract additional capital that gives it an opportunity to even invest more in the future,
share the risks with limited partners. The partnership can be of great benefit as it is a good way of
saving on taxes.
b) The decision to invest in projects increases the shareholders value of the company. This is
consistent with the growth and from the NPV criteria, positive NPV of projects increases the
shareholder s value.

How does Marriott use its estimate of its cost of capital? Does this make sense?
a) Discounted cash flows from the projects by the suitable division of a hurdle rate to get the net
present value which financially makes sense since risks among different divisions do vary.
b) Another method is through incorporation of the hurdle rate in the compensation policy which in
sense does not make sense since the rate does reflect risks of different activities and not managers
performance.
3. What is the weighted average cost of capital for Marriott Corporation?
Marriot Corporation measures the opportunity cost of the cost of capital for the investments using the
weighted average cost of capital for similar investments that have the same risk. The WACC for the
corporation is 11.89%.
a) What risk free rate and the risk premium did you use to calculate the cost of equity?
For the purposes of risk premium consistency, the arithmetic average was most applicable to the
historic US government bonds of 4.58% for the longest period because of its accurate estimate.
The risk premium used is 7.43% though it seems to be high, low free rate compensates it.
For the calculation of equity, beta is a necessity because there is no comparison that matches its
operational profile. Beta 1.17 ke = (4.58%+1.17) =

Essay on Dredging the Hudson River
Dredging the Hudson River
For the past year, the subject of polychlorinated biphenyls in the Hudson River and what should be
done about them has been discussed by politicians and residents all over the capital region. Often the
top story on the local news, the front page headline of the newspaper, the subject of a special on
television, or the reason for a town meeting, dredging has become a much debated topic. With all the
information being exchanged and opinions published, it is easy for the average person to become
confused. In an attempt to make things clear, the following report defines dredging, PCBs, and
presents a short discussion of each side of the Hudson River dredging debate.

Many companies produced PCBs in the 1930 s and 1940 s and because the chemical does not
decompose, PCBs are still present in soil and rivers, subsequently ending up in fish and other wildlife.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PCBs build up in the environment, and
larger concentrations are found higher in the food chain. Eating contaminated fish is the most likely
way for PCBs to get into the human body. In 1997, the EPA banned the production of PCB s and they
were classified as a probable human carcinogen.
DREDGING
Dredging is the removal of soil or material from the bottom of a river, lake or ocean harbor. (Encarta
Online 8 Apr 2001). There are two distinctive types of dredging; navigation and construction
dredging, and environmental dredging. Navigation and construction dredging are used to remove
sediment that has accumulated to a level where the water depth is insufficient to support safe
navigation (Huskie 2). Navigation dredging tends to use large open clamshell dredges. Environmental
dredging utilizes hydraulic dredges that act as a vacuum to remove contaminated sediments such as
PCBs, ( Environmental Clearwater.org). A representation of these dredges is on the following page
courtesy of Keene Engineering ( Environmental Clearwater.org). A sediment that is toxic or
hazardous, once removed, must be placed in an approved hazardous waste landfill or, treated until it is

Dreams in Invisible Man Essay example
There are many types of dreams and many interpretations of those dreams. Dreams of power... of
glory... of the past and the present... but none are as vivid as those that are found in Ralph Ellison s
novel, Invisible Man.
The dreams start occurring in the very beginning of Invisible Man. In the infamous Reefer Dream , IM
talks about a dream he had after he used narcotics. In this bizarre dream, IM hears a speech on the
blackness of black , is assaulted by the son of a former slave, and is run over by a speeding machine.
All of this occurs while listening to What Did I Do To Be So Black and Blue? (pgs 9 12). This is one
of the most significant dreams in the book.
In another important dream, IM s deceased grandfather gives ... Show more content on

that is totally white. Inside the room is a white girl who wants Trueblood to snuggle up with her. But
he just pushes her on to the bed and, the woman just seems to sink outta sight, that there bed was so
soft.... Then swoosh! All of a sudden, a flock of little white geese fly out of the bed(Ellison 55 58).
Soon after, Trueblood wakes up and is going to tell his wife about the dream, but when he wakes up,
he is on top of his daughter. This is important because this dream eventually gets IM kicked out of
college. The reason for IM s expulsion is because Norton had a heart attack due to the shock of
hearing this dream.
Dr. Bledsoe is a target of IM s rage. IM often dreams of publicly humiliating Bledsoe by forcing him
to eat chitterlings. The reason IM feels hatred towards Bledsoe is because IM feels Bledsoe is fully
responsible for IM moving to Harlem. He also feels like he has been stabbed in the back by Bledsoe,
because Bledsoe wrote letters of recommendation that were really letters of degradation. These are the
reasons that IM often dreams of revenge.
IM s grandfather is a constant figure in most of IM s dreams. In a dream after IM joins the
Brotherhood, his grandfather tells him that, You start up Saul, and end up Paul

Immigration Without Assimilation
Immigration without assimilation
Immigration is a way to move from one country to another country. In Ethiopia s case immigration is
the incoming of refugees from Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan. The immigrants from these
countries are in seek of peace and stability. Generally, when their lives are in danger, they flee to their
closest safe country, Ethiopia. Most of these people walked to get to Ethiopia. According to the
UNHCR of the United nations, 850,000 refugees from neighboring countries residing in Ethiopia and
the country hosts the largest number of refugees in Africa. Ethiopia s immigration without assimilation
policy benefits the immigrants in national identities, cultures, and language preservation and are most
welcome to enter into the nation. So, national identity, culture and religion are the three aspects of the
immigrants are preserved due to Ethiopia s policy of no assimilation. The first aspect that the
immigrants are preserved due to Ethiopia s policy of no assimilation is national identity. The refugees
from Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan are having their own national identities of their states.
They have distinctive traditions and feelings they share with a group of people about their nations.
Here, the immigrants are displaced only from their homelands, but with all having traditions and
feelings about their countries. With their national identities, they are moving far away from their

Lion King and Hamlet
Similarities and Differences Between The Lion King and Hamlet
As innocent and young the Disney movie The Lion King may seem, it is, indeed, loosely based off of
the renowned Shakespeare play Hamlet . It would seem strange to the typical audiences of each, but
when looked at closer, it is seen that they are actually related underneath the youthful, animated
surface of The Lion King.
One of the main aspects that connects The Lion King and Hamlet is the characters. Simba and Hamlet
are both princes of their kingdoms. Hamlet, a man, and Simba, a lion cub, are in the same situation
which is coping with and avenging their fathers deaths. Hamlet goes crazy and creates a whole plan of
revenge but Simba simply runs from the problem altogether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An enormous range of people was reached between these two works of literature.
The fact that animals were used in The Lion King is almost ironic. This is true because not only were
the characters in The Lion King more civil, but the people in Hamlet acted more like animals
territorial, aggressive, immature, and thoughtless. The irony in The Lion King continues with a line
from Pumbaa, All this time I thought that all of the sparkly dots in the sky were big balls of burning
gas billions of miles away. Rafiki, the baboon that acts almost as Simba s conscience, calls Simba a
baboon because he won t go back to his pride.
Another similarity between the two is the sighting of the father s ghost. Simba sees it and it serves as
his revelation moment before he returns to his pride. For Hamlet, his father s ghost is his cue to
avenge Hamlet Sr. s death. The word wind is used several times throughout Hamlet and it is also used
in one of Simba s lines before he sees Mufassa s ghost.
The end of Hamlet is completely different from that of The Lion King. As most Disney movies go,
there is a happy ending and all is well after justice is served. Shakespeare takes a different position. At
the end of Hamlet, almost everyone dies. The only survivor is Marcellus, the extremely faithful and
supportive best friend of Hamlet through the entire play. However, at the end of The Lion King, Zazu
who was held captive by Scar and the hyenas is set free. Scar is the only one

The Between Public And Private Spaces
When looking at how online forums effects civility, Papacharisssi (2011) suggest viewing technology
as an architecture which blurs the line between public and private spaces. Online discussions merge
the social, cultural, political, and economical into merging yet fragmented spaces. With this
framework, the presents of civility or incivility should be viewed as a dependent of the context of the
topic and website (Coe et. al., 2014; Herbst, 2010). Reader (2012) argues that incivility may be a
reflection from the polarization of current media messages. He argues that, the rhetoric of the culture
war is often vitriolic and rancorous, what some scholars have dubbed to be incivility (p. 506). Others
have found that topics involving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christopherson (2006) compliments with his construct of anonymity as the inability of others to
identify an individual. Anonymity comes in multiple forms; a common one being pseudonymity.
When using a pseudonym, a person uses another name other than his or her own to associate with. It is
very common to see pseudonymity on the Internet, since websites rarely check for the true identity of
the individual users, and it is often beneficial to protect a user s privacy.
Studies generally confirm that anonymity emboldens incivility in CMC. Strom and Strom (2005)
found that when abusers lack face to face contact with those being persecuted, they may not know the
level of distress that their misconduct is causing. Furthermore, online anonymity makes misdeeds
difficult to trace, easy for cyberbullies to avoid responsibility for their misdeeds, and reduces fear of
being caught and punished.
Through interviewing people from various countries and socioeconomic levels, Kang, Brown, and
Kiesler (2013) found that about half of those they interviewed sought anonymity for malicious reasons
like hacking or socially undesirable activities such as flaming or browsing violent or pornographic
website.
Typically CMC civility studies have focused on websites with clear topical themes or articles such as
online newspapers (e.g. Coe et. al., 2014; Rowe, 2015; Santana, 2015) or discussion boards (e.g.
Lampe et. al., 2014; Papacharisssi, 2004). In contrast social

  • 3. What Is The Summer Trip Essay Summer Trips Another feature of life in Rome was the summer trip. Each of us could travel for a month during summer vacation, but if a member of one s family came over, we could travel longer, six weeks or even two months. There were also some established itineraries. One was the shrine run and another was the beer run. My first summer, the summer of 1957, I traveled with Victor Galeone and Ralph Platz on the shrine run. We flew to Barcelona on an inexpensive student flight, did some sightseeing there which included a one day pilgrimage to the Benedictine monastery at Monserrat which is associated with St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). From Barcelona we flew to Madrid near which there were many places of interest to us, e.g. Toledo, El Escorial (burial place of Spanish kings) and Avila where the shrine of St. Teresa of Avila, Carmelite nun and mystic, is located. From Madrid we had planned to take the train to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a long trip back to Madrid we went to San Sabastian in the Basque country where we had a friend from the Greg. He showed us the town which was extremely beautiful. (Franco spent his summers there, and his yacht was in the harbor.) Our friend told us that one of the vices of the Basques was gluttony, and the bishop had had to put limits on post ordination banquets lest they scandalize the laity. Next came Lourdes which I found much more moving than Fatima. Especially inspiring at Lourdes was the nighttime candle procession with everyone singing familiar hymns. Next stop was the home of St. Jean Vianney, known as the Cure d Ars, whose below average IQ made Latin, philosophy, and theology too difficult for him, but the bishop ordained him anyway, and he because famous through France as a confessor and ... Buggy Essay Introduction For this project, the groups with 5 people were expected to just design while groups of 7 people were to design and build a buggy system powered by wind that could potentially be ridden on different types of terrain such as an open grass field, a beach, sand dunes, icy field (frozen lake) or a snow field. The wind power will be captured with a kite that can vary in size and shape, depending on not just the weight of the rider, the weight and size of the buggy but also wind speed. The buggy should be designed and built in such a way that the rider can choose to simply ride it on a straight and curved pathway. In addition, the rider should be able to make the buggy make wide and sharp turns in different directions. The buggy should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Reflection On Competency I am very confident with the course competencies. Over the past few months while working in the classroom that I have been working in for the past three years I really focused on the competencies and evaluating myself and how I could better these skills. At the beginning of the semester I rated myself at a 90 percent for my confidence in the competencies, now I would rate myself at a 100 percent. Not only did I evaluate myself, I was constantly asking the lead teacher in my classroom how I was doing with the competencies. This really helped me zero in on the skills and think about ways that I could use the different skills, change how I did some things, and continue to do the skills that I was already strong at. When I started off the semester I found that my weakness was doing full observations. I would find myself making short quick notes and then I would have a hard time getting a full observation. I decided that I was going to focus on getting better at observations I did. When making observations about children s behavior or their skills I would write the short notes that had the information that I needed, then I would write the observation out that same day in a longer format. I did it the same day so that I could remembers everything that was going on or exactly what happened. This was very helpful for me to create a full observation. Another competency that I worked on over the semester more than others was using a wide range of positive guidance approaches to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ethics Of Caring And Virtue Ethics of Caring and Virtue Ethics of virtue is the belief that if a person wants to be considered good, they do good things (Pollock, 1988). In ethics of virtue, happiness is always the outcome of a situation. The main premise of virtue theory lies upon three main principles; virtues, practical wisdom and eudemonia. A virtue is a mean state which lays between two vices. A virtue is a characteristic a virtuous person possesses, for example courage. Courage is a virtue which lays between cowardice and foolhardiness . Virtue can vary in meaning for each individual depending on their background and history. Aristotle states that all humans have a one end goal which is called eudaimonia (Greek for happiness), and that happiness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, only those with good character can be truly happy. Just so that we can live virtuously, we must avoid extremes and maintain a balance, which Aristotle terms as the golden mean (Pollock, 1988). The golden mean is the balance between the extremes, and we must use rational thinking and reasoning in a balanced fashion. Repeated actions lead to a condition, which makes an action distinct from a condition, therefore meaning one virtuous act does not make a person virtuous. Acts of virtue must become a habit, so that virtuous acts become second nature. These repeated virtuous acts lead to the condition of virtue, and the condition of virtue equals good character, and vice versa. This creates an assumption of a link between being able to see who we are and what we do, between being and doing. Ethic of Care is a theory of how we care for each other and all of the people around us. It makes us realize how much we value the human relationship. Ethic of Care theory allows us to see the moral value that is placed upon our communities, as well as, persons and asserts that one action can possibly take place in the context relationship. However, the Ethic of Care does not support a dependency relationship between people. The Ethic of Care is about maintaining a relationship that is very mutual. We should always try to constantly maintain a relationship that offers both mutual opportunity and benefits, as well as, consider the implications of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. What Are The Events In The Life Of Babe Ruth The Life Of Babe Ruth Babe Ruth, born George Ruth, Jr., is considered by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time. Everybody knows how great a hitter Babe was and how he virtually invented the home run. Not everybody knows how great of a pitcher Babe was, even though he was one of the best left handed pitchers of all time. Babe had a 92 and 44 record, 67.6%, and a 2.24 career earned run average in 163 games pitched. Not many career .342 hitters that averaged a home run every 11.8 at bats can say that. George Ruth, Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on February 6, 1895, son of George Herman Ruth, Sr. and Kate Ruth. George took the name of Herman at his confirmation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Babe Ruth. At first George thought the name, Babe, was a joke, but after a while it became like a proper name, and everybody called him Babe. After an impressive showing in the International League, Babe and the rest of the Oriole team were put up for sale. The Boston Red Sox bought Babe and he saw his first major league action on July 11,1914, as he took the mound against the Cleveland Naps. Babe ended up winning the game 4 3 after pitching seven innings and letting up only three runs on five hits. The Red Sox sent Ruth to the International League to play on the Providence team, to get some more experience. At Providence, Ruth had a record of 11 wins and 2 loses. On September 5, Ruth won a game 9 0, only letting up one hit, but more significantly he hit his first and only minor league home run. The Red Sox brought Ruth back up after the Providence team won the pennant and Ruth pitched in one game without decision. While in Boston, Ruth almost always went to Landers coffee shop and his usual waitress was a girl named Helen Woodford. During breakfast one morning Ruth looked up at Helen and said, How about you and me getting married, hon? After thinking it over for a couple of minutes, Helen accepted his proposal. After the baseball season, Babe and Helen got married in St. Paul s Church, Ellicott City, Maryland, on October 17,1914. Helen Woodford Ruth stayed out of the public ... Through the research and development of this paper, I feel that I am finally prepared to answer that question. College has always been in my plans but which college? Well, I have it narrowed down to three excellent and well known colleges. Ohio University of Athens, The Ohio State University of Columbus and Miami University are the colleges that I feel would foremost prepare me to become an athletic trainer. Noises Off Play Essay On Tuesday the twenty first of March my mother and I went to the beautiful San Francisco Playhouse, to watch a play within a play called Noises Off! written by Michael Frayn. I originally had my reservations about the play, without doing any research about the play ahead of time I didn t know quite what to expect. I knew that it was a comedy and that it was about a second rate comedy troupe. But I ended up being pleasantly surprised by it and really liked Noises Off! This play is a classic case of a farce based off of plot complications, the interactions between the cast is what really makes it enjoyable. The San Francisco Playhouse is located on the second floor of the Kensington Hotel directly in the center of San Francisco s theatre district. Heat transfer is central to the performance of propulsion systems, design of conventional space and water heating systems, cooling of electronic equipment, and many manufacturing processes (Campos 3). Unsteady state conduction is the class of heat transfer in which the temperature of the conducting medium varies with time and position. This occurs frequently in industrial processes, especially food preservation and sterilization, where the temperature of the food or of the heating or cooling medium constantly changes (Farid2). The work reported here involves the investigation of unsteady state heat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To achieve this, the final value from each thermocouple was set to be equal to the warm water bath temperature (370C), and the initial reading was set equal to the ice water bath temperature. Thus, for each thermocouple an equation was obtained using the two points to convert voltage readings to temperature. An example of the calibration for one of the thermocouples is shown in Appendix II. LUMPED ANALYSIS To determine if a lumped parameter analysis could be applied, the Biot numbers for the systems were calculated (shown in Table 1). Table 1: Biot numbers for the aluminum and Plexiglas cylinders. | Bi | Aluminum | 0.07 | Plexiglas | 81 | Since the Bi value of the aluminum system is less than 0.1, convection from the water to the surface of the cylinder is the rate limiting heat transfer mechanism. Thus, a lumped parameter analysis can be safely applied. The Plexiglas system, on the other hand, has a Bi gt; gt; 0.1, and the rate limiting mechanism is conduction in the cylinder. The temperature time plot gotten by applying a lumped parameter analysis (Equation 6) to the Aluminum cylinder was compared to the plot obtained from the thermocouple located closest to center of the cylinder. This thermocouple is chosen for comparison because it is located farthest from the heating source and will have a temperature history that differs most from an ideal lumped system. With this thermocouple, we should therefore obtain the maximum error associated with applying a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Orwell s Totalitarian World of 1984 is America in 2004 Orwell s allegorical critique of Stalinism in 1984 is often used in capitalist nations as a poignant literary attack on Communism and other collectivist economic and political systems. The argument often follows the lines of This is socialism, and as you can see, it doesn t work and just leads to oppression. We re in a nice capitalist democracy, therefore we are better off. The corporate media touts the successes of democracy in foreign nations without saying how it was achieved (through U.S. military and economic interventions). It has reached the point where the powerful have set America into a perpetual state of doublethink, where our leaders say one thing but mean the other. To find examples of this doublethink, one needs only to look at the works of linguistics pioneer Noam Chomsky. For the last few decades, Chomsky has focused his work on the connections between language and politics. In his latest book, Profit Over People, Chomsky is forced to differentiate between democracy (as we think it is) and really existing democratic theory (the counter democratic system that actually exists). Most of the nations of Latin America and Southeast Asia are currently running under the really existing democratic theory pushed on them by the USA, a system where real democracy is only allowed if it serves the business interests of America. The Mind Of A Child The Mind Of A Child Student s Name Institution The Mind of a Child Unlike adults, children cannot be punished even for committing serious crimes such as murder because the legal system indicates that young children cannot be held responsible for such crimes. There are biological, cognitive, and emotional or social development factors behind this policy. The biological argument for this policy holds that a child below six years would be excused from responsibility for their actions because their part of the brain that helps in strategizing, planning, and organization is not fully developed(Berger, 2014) . This argument further holds that it will be unfair to expect a child to have decision making and organizational skills levels as that of adults whose brains have been fully built. Since a child s brain is not finished being built, they cannot be totally rational; instead, they rely on the brain s emotional parts. In this scenario under consideration, it is clear that the child who killed the other seemed to have strongly responded with a gut response and as such he had not evaluated the consequences of whatever he was doing. Neuropsychologists have found out that the frontal lobe is involved in many of criminal culpability aspects, and therefore since a child s frontal lobe is not fully developed, he or she cannot be criminally culpable (Berger, 2014). There then comes a question of whether or not something should be done and if so then what. Does this make sense? a) Discounted cash flows from the projects by the suitable division of a hurdle rate to get the net present value which financially makes sense since risks among different divisions do vary. b) Another method is through incorporation of the hurdle rate in the compensation policy which in sense does not make sense since the rate does reflect risks of different activities and not managers performance. 3. Marriot Corporation measures the opportunity cost of the cost of capital for the investments using the weighted average cost of capital for similar investments that have the same risk. The WACC for the corporation is 11.89%. a) What risk free rate and the risk premium did you use to calculate the cost of equity? For the purposes of risk premium consistency, the arithmetic average was most applicable to the historic US government bonds of 4.58% for the longest period because of its accurate estimate. The risk premium used is 7.43% though it seems to be high, low free rate compensates it. Many companies produced PCBs in the 1930 s and 1940 s and because the chemical does not decompose, PCBs are still present in soil and rivers, subsequently ending up in fish and other wildlife. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PCBs build up in the environment, and larger concentrations are found higher in the food chain. Eating contaminated fish is the most likely way for PCBs to get into the human body. In 1997, the EPA banned the production of PCB s and they were classified as a probable human carcinogen. DREDGING Dredging is the removal of soil or material from the bottom of a river, lake or ocean harbor. (Encarta Online 8 Apr 2001). There are two distinctive types of dredging; navigation and construction dredging, and environmental dredging. Navigation and construction dredging are used to remove sediment that has accumulated to a level where the water depth is insufficient to support safe navigation (Huskie 2). Navigation dredging tends to use large open clamshell dredges. Environmental dredging utilizes hydraulic dredges that act as a vacuum to remove contaminated sediments such as PCBs, ( Environmental Clearwater.org). A representation of these dredges is on the following page courtesy of Keene Engineering ( Environmental Clearwater.org). A sediment that is toxic or hazardous, once removed, must be placed in an approved hazardous waste landfill or, treated until it is harmless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Dreams in Invisible Man Essay example There are many types of dreams and many interpretations of those dreams. Dreams of power... of glory... of the past and the present... but none are as vivid as those that are found in Ralph Ellison s novel, Invisible Man. The dreams start occurring in the very beginning of Invisible Man. In the infamous Reefer Dream , IM talks about a dream he had after he used narcotics. In this bizarre dream, IM hears a speech on the blackness of black , is assaulted by the son of a former slave, and is run over by a speeding machine. All of this occurs while listening to What Did I Do To Be So Black and Blue? (pgs 9 12). This is one of the most significant dreams in the book. In another important dream, IM s deceased grandfather gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then he dreamed of a hill, that no matter how fast he climbed, it seemed farther away, until finally he reaches the top. On top of the hill is a white house. Trueblood went in the house, and there is a room that is totally white. Inside the room is a white girl who wants Trueblood to snuggle up with her. But he just pushes her on to the bed and, the woman just seems to sink outta sight, that there bed was so soft.... Then swoosh! All of a sudden, a flock of little white geese fly out of the bed(Ellison 55 58). Soon after, Trueblood wakes up and is going to tell his wife about the dream, but when he wakes up, he is on top of his daughter. This is important because this dream eventually gets IM kicked out of college. The reason for IM s expulsion is because Norton had a heart attack due to the shock of hearing this dream. Dr. Bledsoe is a target of IM s rage. IM often dreams of publicly humiliating Bledsoe by forcing him to eat chitterlings. The reason IM feels hatred towards Bledsoe is because IM feels Bledsoe is fully responsible for IM moving to Harlem. He also feels like he has been stabbed in the back by Bledsoe, because Bledsoe wrote letters of recommendation that were really letters of degradation. These are the reasons that IM often dreams of revenge. IM s grandfather is a constant figure in most of IM s dreams. In a dream after IM joins the Brotherhood, his grandfather tells him that, You start up Saul, and end up Paul ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Lion King and Hamlet Similarities and Differences Between The Lion King and Hamlet As innocent and young the Disney movie The Lion King may seem, it is, indeed, loosely based off of the renowned Shakespeare play Hamlet . It would seem strange to the typical audiences of each, but when looked at closer, it is seen that they are actually related underneath the youthful, animated surface of The Lion King. One of the main aspects that connects The Lion King and Hamlet is the characters. Simba and Hamlet are both princes of their kingdoms. Hamlet, a man, and Simba, a lion cub, are in the same situation which is coping with and avenging their fathers deaths. Hamlet goes crazy and creates a whole plan of revenge but Simba simply runs from the problem altogether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An enormous range of people was reached between these two works of literature. The fact that animals were used in The Lion King is almost ironic. This is true because not only were the characters in The Lion King more civil, but the people in Hamlet acted more like animals territorial, aggressive, immature, and thoughtless. The irony in The Lion King continues with a line from Pumbaa, All this time I thought that all of the sparkly dots in the sky were big balls of burning gas billions of miles away. Rafiki, the baboon that acts almost as Simba s conscience, calls Simba a baboon because he won t go back to his pride. Another similarity between the two is the sighting of the father s ghost. Simba sees it and it serves as his revelation moment before he returns to his pride. For Hamlet, his father s ghost is his cue to avenge Hamlet Sr. s death. The word wind is used several times throughout Hamlet and it is also used in one of Simba s lines before he sees Mufassa s ghost. The end of Hamlet is completely different from that of The Lion King. As most Disney movies go, there is a happy ending and all is well after justice is served. Shakespeare takes a different position. At the end of Hamlet, almost everyone dies. The only survivor is Marcellus, the extremely faithful and supportive best friend of Hamlet through the entire play. However, at the end of The Lion King, Zazu who was held captive by Scar and the hyenas is set free. Scar is the only one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Between Public And Private Spaces When looking at how online forums effects civility, Papacharisssi (2011) suggest viewing technology as an architecture which blurs the line between public and private spaces. Online discussions merge the social, cultural, political, and economical into merging yet fragmented spaces. With this framework, the presents of civility or incivility should be viewed as a dependent of the context of the topic and website (Coe et. al., 2014; Herbst, 2010). Reader (2012) argues that incivility may be a reflection from the polarization of current media messages. He argues that, the rhetoric of the culture war is often vitriolic and rancorous, what some scholars have dubbed to be incivility (p. 506). Others have found that topics involving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christopherson (2006) compliments with his construct of anonymity as the inability of others to identify an individual. Anonymity comes in multiple forms; a common one being pseudonymity. When using a pseudonym, a person uses another name other than his or her own to associate with. It is very common to see pseudonymity on the Internet, since websites rarely check for the true identity of the individual users, and it is often beneficial to protect a user s privacy. Studies generally confirm that anonymity emboldens incivility in CMC. Strom and Strom (2005) found that when abusers lack face to face contact with those being persecuted, they may not know the level of distress that their misconduct is causing. Furthermore, online anonymity makes misdeeds difficult to trace, easy for cyberbullies to avoid responsibility for their misdeeds, and reduces fear of being caught and punished. Through interviewing people from various countries and socioeconomic levels, Kang, Brown, and Kiesler (2013) found that about half of those they interviewed sought anonymity for malicious reasons like hacking or socially undesirable activities such as flaming or browsing violent or pornographic website. Typically CMC civility studies have focused on websites with clear topical themes or articles such as online newspapers (e.g. Coe et. al., 2014; Rowe, 2015; Santana, 2015) or discussion boards (e.g. Lampe et. al., 2014; Papacharisssi, 2004).
