[1-1] A noun is a word that names a person,
place, thing or idea.
Persons : Engineer , Designer, machinist,
Technician, Dean.
Place : Workshop, Factory, Lab, Faculty,
Department,…
Thing : Machine, Computer, Material, Car,
Printer, ..,
Idea : Milling, Industry, Drilling, Energy
Cooperation, Democracy
3. [1-2] A noun that is made up of more than
one word is called compound noun.
Persons : Mechanical Engineer , Structure
Designer, Car deriver.
Place : Students Workshop, Steel Factory,
Vibrations Lab, Civil Department,…
Thing : Rolling Machine, Gas turbine, raw

Idea : Green energy, Technology Race, Arms

4. [2] Pronoun
A. A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun.
Example: Buy a machine and bring it workshop.
Student went to his class room but he did not stay long.
B. A pronoun may be used in a place of noun or a group of nouns.
Ex. Engineering students should know the recent technology for all
subfields which are at the faculty.
When students became eighteen, they register to vote.
C. The noun that the pronoun replaces is called the antecedent of the
pronoun.
Ex. The machine was broken when it fell.
A void confusion by repeating the noun instead of using a pronoun.
Ex. The lamp hit the table when lamp was knocked.
The lamp hit the table when it was knocked.
5. [3] Verb
1. A verb is a word or a group of words that express
“action” or “being” or usually tells what the subject does.
Ex. - The machine crashed in the workshop (action).
-Nanotechnology is recent science (being).
-Engineering is popular science ( being).
2. Two or more verbs may have one subject.
Ex. - Civil Engineer works during the day and goes to
home at night.
3. A verb may express a state or condition.
Ex. - Mechanical Engineer is the best one to make a
maintenance.
6. Three kinds of verbs
Transitive, intransitive and linking
Transitive verb tells what its subject does to some
one or some thing.
Ex. Every one should ask their professor.
Intransitive verb tells what its subject does.
The action of the intransitive verb does not affect to
some one or some thing.
Ex. All of the job applicants waited patiently.
The door opened slowly.
A linking verb links the subject with a noun or
pronoun or adjective.
Ex. Engineer who fix the machine is me

To be , to appear, to grew, to seem
, to remain, to become, and verbs
that involve the senses of such as to
look, to smell , to feel , to sound , to
taste, to hear.
A linking verb may link the subject
with infinitive or a noun clause or
gerund.

An adjective is a word that modifies a
noun or pronoun.
In grammar, to modify means to describe,
(talk about, explain, limit , specify or
change the character of noun.
Ex. Cement is gray powder.
They have eight courses this term.

An adverb is a word that modifies the
meaning of a verb.
Ex. Civil engineering department is
very nearly completed.
Every one in the library should speak
softly.
10. [6] Preposition
. A preposition is a word that connects a noun
or pronoun to another word in the sentence.
. The preposition often express locations in
space or time .
.Be careful to choose the preposition that
reflects your intended meaning.
. In general do not capitalize preposition used
in titles.
11. [7] Conjunctions
A conjunction is a word that joins
words, phrase or clauses.
Example: you may swim in the pool
but do not stay long.
Is your favorite song at the end or in
the middle the record?
12. Interjection
An interjection is a word or a group of
words that expresses surprise, anger,
pleasure, some another emotion.
Aha! I have caught you.
oh no! what have you done now?
ouch! I have hurt myself.
