For each part of speech, it defines what it is with examples. Nouns are defined as people, places, things or ideas. Pronouns take the place of nouns. Adjectives describe nouns. Verbs show actions. Adverbs describe how actions are performed. Conjunctions join words and groups. Prepositions show position or direction. Interjections show strong emotion. The document serves as a reference for understanding the key elements of English grammar and language.

3. NOUN
 A Noun is a person, place, thing, or idea.
 Nouns are the subject of a sentence.

4. EXAMPLES OF NOUN
The bakery

5. TYPES OF NOUN
 Common Noun- A noun that does not name a specific
person, place or thing.
 Proper Noun- A noun that names a specific person,
place or thing.

6. PRONOUN
 A Pronoun is a word that takes the place of a
noun.
 Examples: I, me, my, you, your, he, she, it , us, we, they,
them, his, her, their, mine, our, myself, himself, herself,
itself, yourself, themselves, ourselves, who, whose, whom,
anybody, anyone, everybody, nobody, someone,
somebody.

8. ADJECTIVE
 Adjective- An adjective is a word that describes a noun
or pronoun. It tells what kind, how many, or which one.

 They live in a beautiful house.
 Lisa is wearing a sleeveless shirt today.
 He writes meaningless letters.
 This shop is much nicer.
 She wore a beautiful dress.

10. VERB
 A verb is the action of the sentence. It shows what
someone or something is doing.

 She is a creative person.
 He ran to the store.

12. Verbs Express Actions
 Verbs are doing words. A verb can express:
 A physical action (e.g., to swim, to write, to climb).
 A mental action (e.g., to think, to guess, to consider).
 A state of being (e.g., to be, to exist, to appear).

14. ADVERB
 An adverb describes how the action is performed. They

16. CONJUNCTION
 A conjunction is a word that joins words or word groups
together. Some examples conjunctions are: and, but, or,
nor, although, yet, so, either, and also.

18. EXAMPLES OF CONJUNCTIONS
1. She did well in her examination. She is an able student.
 She did well in her examination, for she is an able
student.
2. He worked hard. He did not achieve good marks.
 He worked hard, yet he did not achieve good marks.
3. Marry was late for work, and she received a cut pay.
 Marry was late for work, so she received a cut pay.

19. PREPOSITION
 A preposition is a word that shows position or, direction.
Some examples are in, out, under, over, after, out, into,
up, down, for, and between.
She worked at
her desk.
The sun was in
the sky.

20. PREPOSITIONS EXAMPLES
The book is on the table.
The book is beneath the table.
The book is leaning against the table.
The book is beside the table.
She held the book over the table.
She read the book during class

21. INTERJECTION
 Interjection- An interjection is a word that shows strong
emotion. Such examples are Wow!, Ouch!, Hurray!, and
Oh no!
 Interjections can really liven up a sentence. They help to
add voice to your writing.
 Interjections are usually followed by exclamation marks

 Whew! I am so glad to have passed my exam.
 Wow! You did a fabulous job.
 Ouch! That’s hurts!
 Goodness! What an haircut!
 Aha! I know the answer!
