This document outlines a proposed parking app called Parklink that would help drivers easily find available parking spaces. It discusses the problems with current parking situations in Nairobi such as drivers spending much time searching. The app would use sensors in parking areas to indicate available spots in real time on a map. Users could search locations to view options like basement, rooftop, or open parking. The team believes the app could benefit drivers, businesses, and the government by reducing traffic and pollution while increasing efficiency. Challenges in developing it included acquiring sensors and limited team meetings.

• According to the IBM global parking survey in
2011, which surveyed 8,042 commuters in 20 cities
around the world, Nairobi motorists on average
take 31.7 minutes against a global average of 19.8
minutes to find a vacant parking slot.

• Drivers in Nairobi experience significant pain and
frustration in their quest to find a parking spot.
• Many motorists make several laps before finding a
slot, for which they are forced most times to part
with a few coins to the parking boys.

• The average motorist wastes a total of 2,549 hours
in the streets searching for a space whether it is
on the the local high street or a supermarket or
airport car park.
• 13% of drivers in Nairobi reported driving around
for more than one hour for a parking spot within
the last year.

• You can also view the most convenient street to look for a
parking space near your destination.
• Having a disability? Parklink is also for you. You can easily
view the reserved parking spaces for the disabled by using
this app.

• This app will be available in free version that will be functional for a
specified period of time after which the user will be required to have the
paid version to continue enjoying the services.
• All drivers in the city make a potential market.
2.THE MANAGERS OF MALLS:
• They will be able to control traffic easily and get statistics of motorists
to the mall
• Using parklink ensures customers of less stress hence frequent the mall
and this increases customer base and customer loyalty.
3.THE GOVERNMENT:
• The county officials will be able to control traffic flow easily and get
statistics of parking areas as well as motorists hence enable easy town
planning and management by the government.

18. CHALLENGES FACED IN DEVELOPING OUR
PROJECT
• Acquiring sensors to try and incorporate in our app was a
major challenge. Since we didn’t get one, we had to come
up with a way to show the user how the app works.
• Since we come from far different places, it was difficult to
meet every so often in order to develop our project.
Therefore we were not able to add most of the
functionalities we wanted to the app.
