Abstract – This study looked into the lived experiences of Filipino grandmothers rearing children with autism (CWA) focusing particularly on the extent of their involvement. The study used Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) through interview and storytelling of eight (8) Filipino grandmothers. Analysis of data generated three themes such as “I watch him every time his parents are out” (physical involvement), “I hope one day he‟ll be okey” (emotional involvement) and “Financially, I gave whatever I have” (financial involvement). The study attempts to explain the extent of involvement of grandmothers in rearing children with autism across these dimensions. Physical involvement is bounded by physical strength, emotional involvement is bounded by self-restraint and financial involvement is bounded by financial capability. The caring and nurturing nature of Filipino grandmothers is translated to their physical, emotional and financial involvement in rearing their grandchildren from conception to adulthood. Filipino children with autism as described in this study had issues covering the broad categories of deficits in social communication and social interaction and restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. Given the atypicalities and the inherent impediments experienced by those in the lower socio-economic status, intervention programs can be created and implemented to address them.

DEVELOPING A BALANCED PROJECT PORTFOLIO FOR A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE - THE CASE OF...Mariusz Andreasik
In the UK, Social enterprises are organisations whose existence is predicated on a social
model where both commercial and charitable sources of income are used to achieve social aims
such as education, the improvement of local communities and the relief of poverty. Such social
enterprises are in essence project based organisations which select, develop and operate projects in
accordance with their internal motivation to achieve social aims and goals. Social Enterprises tend
to be small and are often lacking in managerial skills such as project management, consequently
they often select projects based solely on social need or other arbitarially determined factors and
ignore other important criteria. This approach increases the likelihood of project overload and
unbalanced project portfolio development and may lead, over the longer-term, to strategic failure.
This research uses an expert survey to identify factors used by social enterprise managers to
determine project selection in order to develop the framework for an Analytic Hierarchical Process
approach to help structure decision making. These factors are then utilised to guide a small group of
social enterprise managers from the SIFE social enterprise organisation to score and rank three
specimen projects. These managers proved adept at using this approach and could analyse the
specimen projects effectively, however, they proved less able to select a suitable portfolio of
projects. This research, although small in scale, suggests that social enterprise managers can
improve their selection of suitable projects through clarification of the decision criteria to be used,
but find it considerably more difficult to develop a balanced portfolio of projects.

Abstract: The significance of parental participation in education achievement of learners at any level cannot be over-emphasized. Despite the Kenyan government policy that requires parents to be actively involved in the education of their children at six levels. Available studies show that parents are not as actively involved as required and even those who are involved; their involvement is limited to provision of finances, facilities and attendance of meetings. The study sought to investigate challenges facing parents in their active participation in the education of pre-school learners in Kiogoro Division, Kisii County, with a view of suggesting ways of promoting active parental participation in education of pre-school learners. The study reviewed various literatures on some past studies and assessed their contribution to the objectives of this study. The study used descriptive survey design to carry out the study with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies of collecting data. The study sample comprised of 10 pre-schools, 10 primary school head teachers, 10 pre-school teachers and 111 parents. The study used simple random sampling to select pre-school teachers and parents. Purposive sampling was used to select primary school head teachers and pre-school teachers. Data was collected by use of questionnaire, interview schedule and document analysis guide. Coded data was presented using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as percentages presented in tables as well as Pearson correlation to establish the relationship between the variable. The study found that lack of clear policies in preschools regarding parental participation, lack of proper mode of communication with their children; poor parent-preschool teacher relationship, unfavourable head teachers’ leadership style and illiteracy among the parents were some of the challenges facing parents in their active participation in education of preschool learners. Parents should be encouraged through various programs on participation in education welfare of their preschool learners. Awareness programs for parents should be organized informing them on the benefit of their participation in education activities for their children. Parents should also be enlightened on the best communication practices with both their children and the school administration to foster good parent-teacher and parent-child relationship. The study suggest that future studies should be done on institutional factors influencing parental participation in education welfare of the preschool learners and socio-demographic factors influencing parental participation in education welfare of the preschool learners.

LICCs are local planning and advisory bodies for the local Early On system, established through the 56 ISDs in Michigan. LICCs mirror the mandated MICC in concept and allow for involvement of parents, agencies, organizations, and individuals necessary to develop and maintain a coordinated early intervention service system. The role of an LICC is to advise and assist the intermediate school district in matters related to Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Early Intervention Program for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities: Final Regulations. In Michigan we call this program Early On. LICC activities include: fostering interagency collaboration and information sharing, disseminating public awareness and other materials that help caregivers identify potential developmental delays and disabilities, promoting parent and family involvement in all community activities, and encouraging community efforts supporting inclusion of children with special needs and their families.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
