• THE SCHOOL CAN INFORM THE PARENTS ON A CONSTANT BASIS ABOUT EDUCATIONAL GOALS, EVENTS,
AND HOW THEIR CHILD IS DOING.
• THE SCHOOL CAN SEEK THE PARENTS’ ADVICE ON HOW TO IMPROVE THE SCHOOL ACADEMICALLY AND
SOCIALLY.
• THE SCHOOL CAN USE TRANSLATORS WHEN NECESSARY.
• SPECIAL PROGRAMS CAN BE ORGANIZED TO HELP MEET FAMILIES’ LANGUAGE AND CULTURE NEEDS.
• SCHOOL CAN HOST A BILINGUAL FAMILY NIGHT.

STRATEGIES FOR EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS
OF THE HOME AND SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS
• KEEP A LOG OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT (I.E. WHAT PARENTS CONTRIBUTED WHEN)
• MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PARENTS BEFORE AND AFTER PARTICIPATION OCCURS.
• KEEP FILES OF PAST PARENTS THOUGHTS ABOUT THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND WHAT COULD BE DONE
TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS.
THE ROLE OF LEADERSHIP IN CULTIVATING A
POSITIVE HOME AND SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP FOR
ELL STUDENTS
• LEADERS MUST BE ROLE MODELS FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS.
• LEADERS MUST LEARN ABOUT DIFFERENT CULTURES OF ELL STUDENTS AND DISTRIBUTE THE

WHAT PARENTS CONTRIBUTED WHEN) • MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PARENTS BEFORE AND AFTER PARTICIPATION OCCURS. • KEEP FILES OF PAST PARENTS THOUGHTS ABOUT THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND WHAT COULD BE DONE TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS.
