Ciudad Juarez is a city known at the future city to the United States. It is right on the border of Texas,
near El Paso. The United States believes that Ciudad Juarez is the future because it allows big
factories to produce in Mexico and have easy access to America to ship their goods to sell. On top of
easy access, Mexico does not have the same minimum wage limit so big businesses are allowed to get
very cheap labor, which allows the product to be sold cheaper. In reality Ciudad Juarez is one of the
most dangerous cities in the world due to the cartels and police. Since 1993 a pattern of femicides
(killing of women) estimates about 400 were women killed between the ages of 11 24 (Stacy L.
Mallicoat, 2012, p246). Even though the United States thinks this city is working out for the best; but
it is a huge poverty town whose main production is trafficking women and drugs. Femicides have
been linked to larger social issues like masculine identity and allowing females to enter the workforce.
Some countries believe it is okay for a guy to be violent against a woman. Also when a woman enters
the work force it can cause a threat to men masculinity. To help allow women to enter the work force
without the men feeling that they are taking over their jobs they can open up more jobs for men.
Trafficking is only going to keep being a huge problem unless people get together and really

Visual Analysis of the Hall of Supreme Harmony
Forbidden city is the imperial palace of China for many decays since the Ming dynasty. The imperial
palace was not only the home for the emperor but also the conference hall and workshops for the
emperor and his subjects. The Forbidden City is divided into two parts, the outer part and the inner
part. The outer part of the city is to the public and the inner part is where the emperor and his family
lived. The Hall of Supreme Harmony, Taihedian, is the first of the three halls in the Forbidden City
where the emperor sees his subjects. Yongle, one of the Ming emperors, first built the Hall of Supreme
Harmony in 1427.1 In both Ming and Qing dynasties there were twenty four emperors held the
enthronement ceremony in this hall. Because of many reasons such as fires that the Hall of Supreme
Harmony was under many times of construction. The building that visitors see today is not the original
from the Ming Dynasty. The Hall of the Supreme Harmony follows Chinese philosophies such as
Confucianism and Taoism into structures, setting, and symbols. The Hall of Supreme Harmony has
unique structures. Some parts of the architecture of the Hall of Supreme Harmony are based on the
Confuses philosophy called Confucianism. Confucianism is the ideology that created the Son of
Heaven, a person is given the right by heaven to rule China, which has the equivalent meaning to the
Mandate of Heaven. By the ancient Zhou ritual that the Ming and Qing emperors rigidly conformed,

How Did Bill Gates Change The World
According to the Oxford Dictionary a leader is someone who commands a group, organization or
country. Now, ask yourself this: Did Jeff Bezos become the richest man in the world, by commanding
those around him? Did Steve Jobs or Bill Gates change the world of technology. by ordering people
around? No one change the world for the better through absolute power, rather, these people changed
the world by inspiring everyone around them. From my personal experience, and when we examine
history, a successful leader does not lead using fear or commands, but with compassion by inspiring
those around them. Throughout history, some of the most successful leaders have been those who
motivated their followers by giving them a moral purpose. While other leaders throughout history
attempted to inspire soldiers with physical wealth, greed eventually led to the downfall of even the ...

Take for example Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, and the second richest person in the world.
Although his rise to the top may have taken great leadership skills, his true time has a leader has come
with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Bill Gates has shown the world that helping people and
showing compassion is simple, and he has done this with his inspirational goals. A few years ago,
Gates challenged people to find an inexpensive way to help prevent malaria in Africa. Using his
position, Gates was able to inspire people from all over the world to take part in this challenge, and
eventually, one man even found a way to help stop malaria for just a couple cents. This is just one way
Gates has used his foundation to inspire people around the world. Bill Gates made a promise to the
world, that before he died, he would give away at least half his fortune to charitable foundations. This
act of goodwill ended up inspiring over a hundred other billionaires, including Warren Buffett and

Flag Desecration Essay
The Flag is an honored and venerated symbol of a country. Epic wars were fought for this piece of
fabric, such as the American Civil War, or World War Two. However, some people disrespect this, and
Take it too far such as, physically destroying the flag, or desecrating the flag by burning it down into a
pulp. This is currently illegal in several major countries. I believe that desecration of the flag is not
permissible, and should stay illegal in the United States.
First of all, the flag, obviously stated in the first paragraph, is a venerated symbol of the country it
represents. Burning and desecrating the flag would signify disrespect. In the United States, the flag is
protected under the First Amendment, which stands and clearly says The Congress shall have power to
prohibit the physical desecration of the flag if you burn the flag, it is roughly the same thing as
burning down the White House intentionally. Next, debate.org claims that flag desecration is
completely negative, mainly because the flag is an honored symbol, and it is, the ... Show more

You do not personally have the right to legally make threats such as desecrating a symbol that is
invaluable for the country as means of expression. Debate.org claims that freedom of speech only goes
so far, and the flag, represents the countries ideals, such as life, liberty, and prosperity. Such examples
would be the Japanese Flag. Which, is by plain sight, a white flag with a red circle. If you see closer,
the red circle would stand for Rising Sun . Adequacy.org claims that there has always been bounds on
free speech. My personal claim would be that freedom of speech only goes oh so far, and the flag
represents it in all means. Burning the flag in peace would also mean that the one responsible for
desecrating and destroying the flag is inciting violence, because that person who is in charge of

Victims Of Physical Abuse
The physical abuse can be inflicted with any type of object, from hands or feet to a random object
lying around. The damage can be as small as a scratch or bruise to internal organ damage or even
death. In addition to being struck, being forcefully held down or choked are also common forms of
physical abuse. Whether the abuse in large or small, the damage and pain are real. The marks left
behind can be visible, but in many cases the invisible scars are worse as it becomes emotional and
mental.
When a person has been the victim of physical abuse, they will go to extreme lengths to hide the signs
from those around them. They may wear clothes that hide the marks, or use excessive amounts of
makeup to hide the black eyes. Another way of hiding

Analyzing Searle s Chinese Room Argument
Searle s Chinese Room Searle s Chinese Room argument tackles the question if computers can really
understand or think for themselves, and if this understanding can be expressed through related terms.
It is imperative to comment that this argument challenges the idea of strong AI instead of weak AI.
Strong AI is the view that programmed computers can understand natural language along with other
mental skills similar to humans. An example of strong AI is a computer that can play a board game
intelligently or fathom a language. Weak AI is the understanding that computers are only useful in
things like psychology or grammar. The great difference is that weak AI makes no claim that
computers actually understand or are intellectual. The Chinese ... Show more content on

Searle states in his writing, The point of the argument is this: if the man in the room does not
understand Chinese on the basis of implementing the appropriate program for understanding Chinese
then neither does any other digital computer solely on that basis because no computer, qua computer,
has anything the man does not have. It is important to understand that this computation is just rule
based symbol manipulation, and that the manipulation and matching is done purely on the basis of the
shape of the symbols, not on their meaning. This is central for the discussion of intelligent AI because
it claims that artificial intelligence will never be able to understand and think for its own. It will
always rely on a human controller to give it the inputs that it needs to have a matching output. Searle
points out that in executing the program not even he would understand the messages. He would only
manipulate symbols, on the basis of their shapes, according to the rules in the manual. Therefore,
because of the hardware independence of computation, if Searle would not be understanding Chinese
under those conditions, neither would any other piece of hardware executing that Chinese Turing Test
passing program. This argument directly argues against the theory that cognition is just computation
that both humans and AI can achieve. Another way to state this argument in a more simplified manner
is that programs are entirely syntactical and because minds have a semantics, programs are not minds
because syntax isn t the same as

Essay on The Pardons of Purgatory
Freedom is the ability one has to choose. Freedom is without consequence, fear of transgression, and
lacks regret. Freedom is a fork in the road a trail that leads to fortune in a field of traps. Humans have
freedom and hold it as children do crayons, straying beyond the lines of purpose only to get lost in
meaningless scribbles. Dante condemns these actions in his poem Purgatory. Dante invents a fictitious
location in afterlife, liberating souls that have become prisoners of their own disarray. With a
collection of paradoxes, vivid imagery, and active examples, Dante establishes a thorough process in
which souls can be cleansed of the past and stride to their future. Purgatory is far from a place of
punishment; it is rather a place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once liberated from one s tainted ability to reason, one must surrender him self to a higher power that
will guide him accurately through the trials hurdled toward him. If man alone was responsible to hold
himself accountable, he would inevitably taste the savor of some lesser good and chase it, destroying
the freedom of [his] will (Dante 173) and fall victim to the seasons of his own desires. Men need some
rein or guide (Dante 175) to direct their overhot desires (Dante 265) or they will escalade like weeds
growing over a fertile field (Dante 355). Men see the goodness of the matter but cannot do everything
by the power of will (Dante 231) allowing their discretion to grow weary in the first battles (Dante
173). As Virgil, a symbol of man abandoned by his ability to freely judge (Dante 173), was prompted
by divine grace before he came to rescue Dante from a Siren a being which steals the might of (Dante
203) men. Dante illustrates man s tendency to passively stand aside as his life is acted upon rather than
act on the decisions made by mindful consideration. Men must humble themselves to a greater power
to lead them to ultimate freedom.
Solely a guide will not suffice the redemption of one s soul. One must make conscious and passionate
decisions to move forward in growth and change, without portraying doubt or becoming distracted by
the shiny plastic gems saturating the world. Dante constantly

The Lakota Way Analysis
In the Lakota Way, Marshall teaches many different virtues that all are important to being a good
person, but respect shines above them all. It is at the cornerstone of every virtue the author puts forth.
It is clear in every story told by Marshall and in every lesson taught in The Lakota Way. Without at
least a modicum of respect, the virtues taught by the Lakota would be less valuable to us as a society.
Respect as a virtue is a simple virtue and should be followed at all times in daily life. In a short
definition respect means treating others, human or otherwise, in a dignified manner; however, this
does not mean that everyone on Earth as royalty. As Marshall puts it, respect is a close relative of
tolerance (Marshall 44). Following this further the author is acknowledging that all humans will
always have our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In daily life showing respect is easy. For example, holding the door for someone and not letting it slam
in their face, giving up your seat on the bus to the elderly or someone else who needs it, or by simply
ignoring an opinion that may differ from ours instead of berating the original poster on why they are
wrong. With a little bit of respect for one another we can all make the world a better place for
everyone that lives on Earth.
Furthermore, respect is a virtue that extends not just to people, but to every living creature that walks
the Earth. One Lakota, Luther Standing Bear, published a book around the 1900 s and talked about
respect as an essential ingredient for balanced interaction among all living things (Marshall 44). This
extends to the tiny spider that crawls around on your bedroom wall to the animals that we kill on a
daily basis so we can survive. Livestock, like cows and pigs, are essential to feeding families across
the globe. Despite the animals making the ultimate sacrifice for our

format of research reports where there is an abstract in this case the summary, an introduction and the
body of the research. We can tell that this is a report of a new research conducted since there is no
reference is made from another source.in other words the article is purely about the social scientists,
his life and his views. This is not a review of any existing work but an actual article about this social
scientist. The article is all about understanding Alpert in tow basic ways; first through the examination
of the earlier development of his career and views.it talks of him being a great French scholar. He was
among US social scientists though he was not known quite well. He played an important role in the
developing U.S National science Foundation s early efforts so as to provide funds for social sciences.
The article also expresses his belief on the value that statistical work holds. This is thus the reason
why he was not shy when it came to giving critics on certain tendencies even in the public domain
(Pooley, .Solovey, 2011). Secondly the article highlights on Alpert s complex involvement in
particular tensions that existed in the mid century US

Characteristics Of A Representative Democracy
I. Introduction
Though the modern academic may describe a political regime as a democracy , what they almost
always imply is that said political regime is a representative democracy. A representative democracy
obtains its legitimacy from the agency of the people; for a democracy to be representative, officials are
elected to represent the interests of their citizens and are thus accountable to both the rules of political
institutions and the needs of their constituents. The most basic facets to a representative democracy
such as free and fair elections and strong competition between political parties are cornerstones to the
structuring of a representative democracy, and yet there are cases within the past century in which
representative democracies with elections and competitive political parties descend into authoritarian
regimes. So though the election of representatives is paramount to modern democracies, there are
other factors that constitute what Leonardo Morlino calls the qualities of democracy. Morlino
subdivides the qualities of a democracy into rule of law, electoral accountability, institutional
accountability, competition, participation, freedom and equality, and responsiveness.
There is no denial that all seven of these criteria Morlino are essential to the establishment and
maintenance of a representative democracy. However, I would like to argue that four of the most
important aspects to assessing the quality of a democracy are independent branches of

To Kill A Mockingbird Character Development Essay
Character development is what I value most as a reader of fiction. If an author can manage to create
the sort of characters who feel fully real, who I find myself worrying about while I m walking through
the grocery store aisles a week later, that to me is as close as to perfection as it gets (J. Courtney
Sullivan). In 1960, Harper Lee published the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. It can be rather hard for an
author to develop a well built fictional character. Although, Harper Lee does a marvelous job on
creating characters. For instance, Scout is a little girl full of energy and is more of a tomboy than most
girls. She s always around her older brother Jem who is respectful, kind, and a gentleman like their
father Atticus. Harper Lee did a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bulimia Nervosa And Non Purging Bulimia
Bulimia nervosa, also called bulimia is a possible life threating eating disorder. A person that suffers
from bulimia may secretly binge their food. They may eat large amount of food and then purge their
food to get rid of the additional calories that they ve digested. Bulimia is categorized in two ways,
purging bulimia and non purging bulimia. Purging bulimia is when a person regularly self induces
vomiting after eating. Non purging bulimia is when an individual may use other methods to try to
prevent weight gain, such as fasting, extreme dieting, or overly exercising. When a person has bulimia
they may judge their self and their flaws. Up to 80% of people self induced vomiting while the 30% of
people use laxatives. They re some risk to using other methods to binge. Using laxatives for a
longtime can cause the lead to potassium depletion and dehydration. Another risk is that the bowel can
become unresponsive. Some may use diuretics or water pills . Diuretics works by getting rid of the
body water, therefore it could decrease bloating. In addition it can induce electrolyte or salt
imbalances that can lead to a disturbance in the heart rhythm. There are many signs to show whether a
person suffers from bulimia nervosa. For an example, if there is a withdrawal of large amounts of food
in a short time period. If you see the individual take frequent trips the restroom. Another sign will be

In the developing countries, these fears are deeply rooted in their colonial experience, when their
colonial masters imposed their language and culture on them. Developing nations consider the import

countries such as Canada and France share the concerns of developing countries about U.S. cultural

reasons for the name my parents gave me. My father Travis is a big golf fan and his favorite golfer of
all time is Jack Nicklaus; he is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, with 18 majors, the
most ever by a professional golfer. My mother Marylou, on the other hand, loves Christmas and liked
the name Nicholas due to St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children and sailors. The
name Nicholas is a Greek name that means victorious people. Shockingly, it took only a few hours of
labor for my arrival. My mom was as calm as can be and didn t realize that she was going into labor.
While my mom was in labor, the rest of my family watched the Denver Broncos defeat the
Jacksonville Jaguars. My parents joke with me that I ve been a Broncos fan since I was even born,
which is true. All of my grandparents, three aunts, and three family friends were at the hospital to
greet me. After I was delivered at approximately 7:34 p.m. my family passed around some It s a boy
cigars. There were a lot of visitors that brought gifts and outfits. My parents and I got to go home the
night after I was born. Grandma and Grandpa Nagel stayed for two days. My mom and dad were the
first of their friends to have a baby and they were very excited to welcome me to

Dating For Dummies By Dr. Joy Browne
Relationships are different in many ways but can have the same matter. In the book Dating For
Dummies by Dr. Joy Browne, she provides advice on how to have successful dates that lead to
fulfilling your need to have fun and to find someone new to understand. The book goes into useful
information from how to be yourself with confidence and make sure that you are ready for the process
of dating. Take for example the first part of the book, it focuses on you as a person and how dating
occurs in the modern world. Both of these contexts are combined in order to see if the manners of
dating are the course you are willing to endeavor. As Dr. Joy Browne describes in the chapter, Finding
Out What Makes You Tick, she acknowledges the importance of ... Show more content on

Second is the ability to find the place where you can encounter or catch this ideal mate. Although not
specific to certain people the author states, be open to spontaneity (Browne, 2006, p.71). Meaning that
the general people are not regularly able to recognize or allow the occurrence of impulse with a date
or in the matter of life. To be open to new and adventurous things that might be encountered with this
voyage of dating is what the author implied. Like parties, vacations and many other types of
celebrations or trips that can bring new escapades that might be to your liking. In this sort of move
towards openness you set forth the ability to find a potential date. The efforts of asking for phone
numbers, and for getting to know the person are a little bit tricky, but are worth being able to find if
there are any type of connections as humans. As we connect we are able to retrieve information to
contact one another for any potential dates or hangouts. The key is to first introduce your self and then
ask for the source of communication so that you can plan an encounter, in order to get to know one
another. Once passing the opportunity to arrange a rendezvous you are able to start plotting the events
for the date. All of these procedures are discussed in part three of the book. Dr. Joy also informs of the
approach for asking someone out depending on how this person leads

Examples Of Ophelia In Hamlet
The Principle to the Demise of Ophelia In Shakespeare s Hamlet, many of the characters that
Shakespeare creates, if not all of them, are notorious for their highly irrational decision making. The
term irrational can be defined as, not logical or reasonable. Throughout the entire play, all of the
characters make decisions that are not as illogical as assumed when thoroughly analyzed. In Hamlet,
Ophelia is a young woman who is desperately in love with Prince Hamlet. She lives alongside him,
her father Polonius and her older brother Laertes. Throughout the play, Hamlet faces difficult
dilemmas and has many life altering choices to make, such as whether or not to seek revenge on his
Uncle Claudius for killing Hamlet s father and whether or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her father, Polonius, and her brother, Laertes, do not like Hamlet whatsoever. Laertes and Polonius
hear of Ophelia and Hamlet s meetings with one another and become very suspicious of Hamlet.
Laertes warns Ophelia not to believe Hamlet s tales about love and that Hamlet is only promising to
marry her in order to manipulate her into having sex with him and to break her heart (1.3.12 48).
While she tells her relatives that she will no longer see him or pursue a relationship with him, she
ignores this and continues to seek a potential future with him anyway. In behavioral economist Dan
Ariely s book Predictably Irrational, a book about the decision making processes of individuals, he
explains that people can become blinded to making clear decisions while they are in a cold state of
arousal and that this state can cause them to make choices they would not normally make while out of
this state, regardless of the consequences (Ariely 129). He proves this by conducting an experiment
asking for 18 year old men and asking them questions similar to, Would you ever try to slip drugs into
a woman s drink to increase your chances of her having sex with you? while they were unaroused and
asked them the same questions a second time while they were aroused (Ariely 136 138). The results
showed that the experimentees were more likely to be influenced to make risky judgements while they
are in an aroused state as opposed to when they

Campaign To Keep Guns Off Campus Analysis
Today thousands of young students go to colleges and universities here in America. With so many
young minds placed onto one campus with little to no parental supervision the question is asked: are
college campuses a safe place? Yes, most college campuses across America are safe. A study prepared
by the campaign to keep guns off campus shows that the crime rate for college is monumentally lower
than the rate for the city where the campus is located. For example, in 2013 the city of Jacksonville
Florida had 452 cases of forcible rape and 3,277 accounts of aggravated assaults. A staggering amount
compared to 1 forcible rape and 6 counts of aggravated assaults at the University of North Florida in
Jacksonville. But what keeps students safe on

The Affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market The Sarbanes Oxley Act
of 2002 was implemented and designed to protect the interests of the investing public and the mission
is to set and enforce practice standards for a new class of firms registered to audit publicly held
companies (Verschoor, 2012). During the early 2000 s, the world saw an alarming number of
accounting scandals take place resulting in many corporations going bankrupt. Some of the major
companies involved in these scandals were from Enron, WorldCom, and one of the top five
accounting and auditing firms, Arthur Andersen. These companies were dishonest with their financial
statements, assuring the public the company was very successful, when in reality they were not. This
became a problem because if the public believes a company is doing well, they are more likely to
invest in it. That is to say, once these companies were exposed, it caused a number of companies going
bankrupt and a major mistrust between the public and the capital market. Consequently, the federal
government quickly took action and enacted the Sarbanes Oxley act of 2002, also known as SOX,
which was created by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC). Many have questioned what Norman Bowie (2004) had

Benefits Of Learning A New Language
Learning a new language can not only intimidating but also require hard work and dedication.
However, even amongst all the trials and tribulations, learning a new language can be very rewarding
in the end. Learning a new language can assist with gaining employment, getting through day to day
activities, and even help within the dating world for those that are interested in dating outside of their
race. With knowing all of the hard work that goes into learning a new language, I wanted to see what
things were like for those who wanted to learn the English language. A language that is most
commonly used around the world and one that is set to help many gain much reward.
For my interview I decided to interview my coworker Anastasia. Anastasia was born in Estonia, a
small country within Europe. Her father was a military doctor so they moved around a lot throughout
the country. When she was six months old Anastasia and her family moved to Moldova. After living in
Moldova for the next 25 years she and her husband decided they wanted to give their new born baby
girl a better life in the US so they decided to make the move.
Anastasia s native language is Romanian which is spoken throughout Moldova as well as Russian. For
her she began to learn the English language at a pretty early age. While learning to speak her parents
would teach her English as well as she grew up. It wasn t until 9th grade when she really begin to put

The Longest Running Fued is the Sunni and Shia Conflict
The Sunni and Shia conflict is currently the longest running feud in the world. Both groups possess an
extreme hatred for one another. Over the years, these two groups have openly expressed their hatred
with one another through violent killings. This split between the Shia and Sunni originates all the way
back in the 7th century. Their difference was based on political differences. As a part of my essay I
will explain the difference and origins of the split between the Shi a and Sunni and also cover the
current issues between them.
I have always assumed that the Sunni and Shia conflict is similar to the war between the Catholic and
Protestant, however it is much more complex and different. These two branches of Islam share the
same Holy Book and all agree that Allah is there God. Sunni and Shia both believe that the last
prophet was Muhammad. However, when Muhammad died, there was a disagreement of who would
be Muhammad s successor. There were two candidates to be the successor of Muhammad, Abu Bakr
and Ali bin Abi Talib. Ali bin Abi Talib was Muhammad s cousin and son in law. Abu Bakr was
Muhammad s friend and senior companion. The Sunni Muslims believed that the leadership should be
granted to the person with most experience. On the other hand, the Shi a believed the decision should
be based purely through Muhammad s bloodline. The majority of Muslim ended up choosing Abu
Bakr to be the Caliph (successor). However, Abu Bakr s rule was shortlived when he died in 634 CE.

Autism Is A Complex Disability Essay
Autism is a complex disability, as the way it manifests in each child differs in severity across
numerous characteristics. Children diagnosed with autism qualify to receive special services and a
free, appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment under the federal legislation,
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 15). Autism was added to IDEA
in 1990 as a new disability category. The legislation defines autism as a developmental disability
significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, generally evident
before age 3 that adversely affects a child s educational performance (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 301).
The Rules for the Provision of Special Education from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction
of Washington state also outlines eligibility and individualized education programs for children
diagnosed with autism (Rules for the Provision of Special Education, p. 11 46). Furthermore, the DSM
diagnoses autism when a child shows qualitative impairments in social interaction, communication,
and restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities (Hunt Marshall,
2012, p. 302).
In 2011, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that on average, 1 in 10 children each
year are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 304). However, the
number of children diagnosed with autism in recent years is

Montgomery College Student Parking Problem
From my perspective as a Montgomery College student, the current parking situation has become a
problem that needs to be addressed. On the west campus there is only one parking garage and there are
not enough spaces for all of the students to park. Some students spend a lot of time circling around
looking for a parking space. There is street parking, but students feel that they should not have to pay
for parking. In order to get a parking spot, I have to arrive at around 8:00 AM even if my class isn t

In the city many places are narrow and you have to build up. So to fit more cars into a small space
there are lifts. One kind of lift is called the Robotic Parking System. It enables parking from several
hundred cars to several thousand in half the amount of space. A person would drive their car into the
parking terminal, and sensors would ensure that the car was placed correctly. The driver would exit the
vehicle, lock the doors and take a parking card from the kiosk. A computer system then lifts the car
and places it on a shelving system. When one is ready to leave they place their parking card into a
kiosk and the system locates their car and brings it down. The screen then displays where the driver
can pick up their car. This also insures safe parking since it is impossible for someone to break and
steal your car. An additional option that is probably the least expensive would be for students to park
in parking garages in downtown Silver Spring. Shuttles buses could be provided by the College to
pick up students from the garage and at the end of the day the shuttle could bring the students back to
their cars. No solution goes without having its issues, whether it is structural, financial or aesthetic.
Some of the solutions to expand the parking are more reasonable, while some will cost a pretty penny.

Protecting Ip And The Ethical Issues Related
In a world where innovation, technology, and the digital age is moving at such a rapid rate, Intellectual
Property (IP) becomes a hot button across business, law and ethics. In like manner, the complications
with protecting and managing IP increases. The demand on IP policy has grown from the need to
protect a simple invention, such as a light bulb, to the need to protect an idea, a slogan, or even a gene
(i.e. biotech). To further complicate things, IP protections are no longer just in the interest of
preserving a trade secret; it is now focused on monetary gains, economic strength and a means for
businesses to compete. One can only imagine how complex the issues can become when focused on so
many issues. This paper will discuss why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By striking the right balance between the interests of innovators and the wider public interest, the IP
system aims to foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish. Therefore, IP is
a critical piece of our country s economic development, social and cultural welfare. Enforcement of
these protections are relied upon in many industries, scientists and not to mention, many artists. It
helps to foster competition, betterment, creativity and innovation. In addition, the American consumer
benefits as IP ensures they are purchasing products that are safe and effective. Given these points,
there is no doubt that IP rights must be protected in order for the U.S. to continue to be productive.
One key reason protecting IP is important is its impact on the U.S. job market. IP industries put forty
million Americans to work and it is expected that as technology continues to advance, those industries
will continue to grow and do so rapidly. This is expected to happen not just in the U.S., but globally.
In addition, IP intensive positions tend to pay higher salaries averaging about $50,576 per employee in
comparison to the national average of $38,768. (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 2016) IP is also a key
aspect of the overall U.S. Economy. With IP intensive industries accounting for more than one third of
the U.S. GDP, it has become key to the country s economic growth. Currently, U.S. IP is worth $5.8
trillion, more than the nominal

Threat of New Entrants is low since the growth rate is expanding in the athletic apparel market and
existing industry members are actively reaching into product segments or geographic areas where they
do not have a strong presence. There is an entry barriers for new entrants in building a retail
distribution, a large reliable supply chain, and securing contracts for endorsements and promotions.
The other companies are established and credible brands that work on global scales. A smaller
company would most likely not gain enough traction in this already competitive market to stay
relevant even if they selected niche markets since the established companies cater to such a wide
demographic of customers. (David 144).
Other clothing brands have the ability to start manufacturing athletic apparel to take away market
share and diversify their portfolio. Thus, existing apparel companies could enter the performance
apparel market if they decide to invest capital for advertising and building product demand. Under
Armour has weak patent protection over its product; hence, there is a threat of different unexpected

continued success since other issues are more pertinent and likely.

Talented Play Builder
To be a credible play builder I feel as though you have to be talented in all three areas; good at
improvising, being a good actor and good at collaborating with other actors. They are very important
to being an effective play builder because they all have important attributes involved which help
benefit the play builder for it to be successful.
Being a good actor is important in this circumstance in my opinion because, being talented at the one
thing that is involved with a play it beneficial, the play builder is able to place themselves in the shoes
of the actor and will be able to see the positives and the strengths of each of the actors and be able to

Collaboration is important because another party may have a better line or idea that works better with
the scene or the script. This can also help with character development by creating greater aspects and
backing stories towards the characters. Being good at collaboration also means being good at
cooperation and team work so these skills not only benefit play building but helps advance an actor to
become better in who they are. Working with other play builders can be difficult but also teaches to be
patient and understanding towards other play builders and helps create a relationship by listening and
joining ideas to make one great piece that suits all.
In conclusion, I believe that all three of these aspects are important to being a skilled and great play
builder because being a good actor involves being able to develop a character, being a good
improviser helps a play builder be a quick thinker and shows how creative one can be on the spot and
how fast a scene can be altered, and being great at collaborations because this involves teamwork and
cooperation, due to the fact that being able to work with someone else can help advance a piece and or

turn it into signals going to your brain to see the picture (How the human eye works). Retinal disparity

Eighteenth Century Religious Change in Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick
The central religious themes of Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick reflect the turbulent and changing
religious climate of their time. In their use of themes from both traditional Calvinism and modern
reform, the syncretic efforts of both of these texts offers a response to the uncertainty and change of
the period. However, their uses of these themes are different; while Stowe used a precise focus on a
Christian polemic against slavery, Melville intentionally de centralized his text in a way that asks the
reader to look beyond the medium of expression to the truth which lays behind it, but cannot be
contained in it.
In this paper, I will investigate the shift in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neither one of them can be precisely placed in any of the religious categories of the period; Calvinism
(both orthodox and reformed), Unitarianism, Transcendentalism, and liberal Christocentric humanism
all exerted definite influences on both works, but both works similarly resist direct placement not only
because of the syncretic nature of their programs, but the fluidity of these very traditions. Therefore,
while some hesitancy is a necessary hazard of such a investigation, it nevertheless preserves a respect
for the complexity of the religious history involved.
With this much said precautionarily, it is nevertheless possible to place both of these works in the
climate of questioning, re definition, and uncertainty which occurred in the American political and
social scenes as part of this religious shift. The first important factor in this shift was the Second Great
Awakening; while William McLoughlin dates its conclusion at 1830, it had an important influence on
both of these works which were composed between 1850 and 1852. This movement established a
break from the Calvinism of Jonathan Edwards through both in popular form of revivals and its
connection to the more elite movement of Unitarianism, and thus set a precedent for later religious
reform.
The concept of American nationhood was challenged in the early eighteenth century on

4 3 2 1 12 11 10, then you need to go to bed between 10 and 12. Routine: Setting up a routine that you
do before you go to bed gets your mind ready for bed too. Wind down with some hot tea ( decaf of
course!! ), there are a ton of flavors and types out there ( my favorite is peach tranquility, from
teavana, but any kind will work, you don t have to go with a loose tea.).If you don t like tea, find
something warm to drink that is decaf, maybe warm milk. Sit down and relax while you drink it,
preferably somewhere comfortable and soft, not your bed though, couch or a lounge chair. NO TV or
COMPUTER!!! I will repeat, do not use your computer or watch tv, both of these keep your mind
from wanting to fall asleep, it keeps your mind active and will cause you to toss and turn for hours!

Symptoms And Treatment Of Arthritis Essay
While everyone wishes to live to advanced age, it is not always that old age is enjoyable. Living to see

also comes with a cost and arthritis is one of the big costs that the aged continue to pay. The disease

Do Rights Exist For The Agency Worker Case Study
Do rights exist for the agency worker? The Regulations have been a slow burner as the Directive was
first drafted in 2002, with the possibility of the draft never evolving. The length of time for the AWR
2010 to be passed emphasises the struggle for the agency worker to obtain the rights within the UK as
well as Europe. Despite opposition from British government, other Member States initially supported
the Directive. This can be extracted from how the agency worker is viewed as a cover piece, and is
only considered from a business perspective, rather than another type of worker who should have
more, if not equal rights, to those there on a permanent basis. This gradual development (or lack of
development at the time) benefited the end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reiterates the above, demonstrating that the Member States were complacent where the rights of
the agency worker were concerned, and how vulnerable the agency worker was within the work force.
These types of workers have always been left unclarified, it provides employers with a scapegoat to
terminate, or employ, an agency worker without the same implications that are attached to a
permanent employee from day one. The theoretical theory of the agency worker gives the
understanding that they are expected to cement over the cracks and cover the duties of others that are
on long term leave, for example maternity. The agency worker is a rapid solution to rush another body
into the work environment. This impacts the career development of the agency worker, questioning
the high quality of work and the satisfaction they receive. The chance to progress and be selected for
internal promotions would be limited and once the assignment was completed, the agency worker
potentially would no longer be required. It subconsciously brackets certain groups such as young
school leavers, working mothers and older workers into committing to this type of employment, due to
the beneficial features it potentially has for the individual . It is a fine balance between flexibility and
security for both the agency worker and the end user, both key concepts for both contracting parties.

$50 note is mustard yellow, and finally the $100 note is green. Featured on the banknotes are
important Australian figures such as the first female member of Australian parliament, Edith Cowan,
and the founder of the world s first air ambulance, John Flynn. Conversely, the coinage of Australia
comes in only two colors of silver and gold as well as featuring iconic animals and plants of Australia.
Denominations of coins go from 5₵ to $2. As Australia doesn t have 1₵ coins, prices are rounded at
the register to the nearest 5₵ (Rivera, 2017; Currency, n.d.). As with any major relocation, there is a
culture shock of some sort. This is generally true whether someone is moving from one country to
another or simply from one state to another. There are a few major concerns with relocating to
Australia. Some of these include the hot weather, socialization, and egalitarianism. It s noted that the
UV index in Australia is always high, so sunscreen is always recommended. Australia is also known to
be a friendly country that values equality and fair distribution of work. Within Australia, people are

What Are Medea s Revenge Decisions
In the story of Medea, manipulation, depression, revenge, and murder are themes that run throughout
the play. Medea responded to the betrayal she felt in very violent ways. Many people end up being
killed by the end of the play due to her revenge plan. While Medea s actions are horrendous and in
some cases, inhuman, they can be sympathized with because the motives behind her actions follow the
patterns of human nature. Medea s murderous revenge plan can obviously be seen as evil and most
people will jump to the conclusion that because of this plan, Medea herself is evil. However, it is her
motives that justify what she does. In the beginning of the play, Medea is found crying in her home.
She talks of suicide and her own depression. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the very end of play, Medea emerges from the house in a dragon pulled chariot, carrying the
corpses of her children. Taking the bodies of the children with her as she flees Corinth is the final
blow towards Jason. He can no longer have any form of closure and he cannot give them a burial so he
is stuck with a torn, grieving heart. Meanwhile, Medea can take the bodies and give them a proper
burial. She will make it so that their bodies are safe and protected. At the same time, in order to atone
for the sin she has committed, Medea plans to establish a holy feast and sacrifice each year for ever
(Euripides 45). She takes the bodies of her children so that she can protect them and grieve over what
she has done. Both of these ideas follow normal ideology of human nature. Medea also stands up for
her children when they couldn t. During her argument with Jason, she accuses him by saying, Now
you would speak to them, now you would kiss them. Then you rejected them (Euripides 46). She takes
offense to his lack of affection shown not only towards her but also towards their kids. She shows
human emotion through all of her actions and this they can be

Analysis Of Boyz R Us By Scott Monk
In the narrative: Boyz r us by Scott Monk, we comprehend the author s depiction of Mitch. That he is
an incorrigible young adolescent with many obligations, upon his shoulders. We perceive that Mitch is
confined within a gang, a gang that is pessimistically changing his life, it is also having disdainful
influence on his deportments and it is carrying out that influence with him in his life. We are exposed
to the theme of change in Mitch s life when encountering some drastically different: characters,
setting, situations and outcomes. The author certifies Mitch s life one step at a time, by exploring the
depth of Mitch s predicaments, in other accounts; inquiring into the theme of adolescent etiquettes and
by positioning us in the centre of the contingencies.
In the first occurrence of the novel Boyz r us , by Scott Monk. We find a disobedient/troublesome boy
finding his way out of class. We soon realise that the troublesome young adolescent is Mitchel Jarret
(our main protagonist), it is not yet certain that he is a protagonist or antagonist, at this point. An
example of this, is found in the quote; Apparently during lunch, wheeler stirred up my crew, the
Marrickville Thunderjets, saying I d turned soft. I had not been running with the people for some time
now, hassling shop owners, train surfing and leaving my Tag on every available space. The use of one
language technique in this context is, colloquial language, in the word hassling . In this example, we

The American Of American History
Learning about American history is an extremely fascinating topic. It s intriguing how our great nation
developed and changed throughout history. From wars to treaties, it s all essential in understanding
how our nation has grown to be what it is now. In our ever growing society today, immigrants are
migrating to this nation with hopes and dreams. Hopes and dreams that lead them to live a better and
more prosperous life. The United States of America is known as big melting pot . This melting pot that
they refer to is an integration of nationalities, cultures, and ethnicities during the 1980 s. This term
came into use in the 1780 s. Multiculturalism has always played a vital role in shaping our society. It
is defined as the historical evolution of cultural diversity within a jurisdiction. The jurisdiction being
the United States. With this in mind, it is evident that the idea of an American dream did influence
immigration over the course of our nation s history. For any American citizen, living the American
Dream is an essential part. It is what they want to be a part of. Citizens feel entitled to live the
American Dream because they it s become so important in this country to become successful. This has
been part of American social issues for a very long time and continues to be an issue now, in the
present day. American Dream? Well, what exactly is an American dream? Is it an idea? A notion? A
thesis? Well, in the simplest form, the American dream is an idea. An idea

Nt1330 Unit 9 Final Paper
Initially, the cell $c_4$ enclosing node $n_2$ (As shown in Figure~ref{f:data structure access}(a)) is
accessed to obtain the information of extending edges $e_1$, $e_2$, and $e_6$ that connect with
$n_2$. Having obtained the edge information, the distances from nodes $n_2$ to $n_1$, $n_5$, and
$n_6$ are computed. Then, obtained the object information, we can know that there have objects on
the $e_1$ and $e_2$. For $e_1$, the distance from node $n_2$ to object $t_1$ are computed, the edge
is $e_1$, the end node of the $e_1$ is $n_1$ , and node $n_1$ is belong to the cell $c_8$ (As shown
in Figure~ref{f:The cell index structure}(b)). So as $e_2$. For $e_6$, there have no object on this
edge, so we kept the $d(n_2,n_6)$ as $d(n_2,o)$. Then, the three nodes with their information are
enqueued. The visited cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there have same value of $d(q,o)$ between queue entry {8,14,$e_{10}$,$n_{10}$,$c_6$}

{8,14,$e_{10}$,$n_{10}$,$c_6$}. Because the $d(q,o)$ is not equal to $d(q,n_i)$ means there has
objects on the edge of entry {8,14,$e_{10}$,$n_{10}$,$c_6$}. Again, accessing the cell $c_8$, the
object $h_2$ is accessed, we put the object $h_2$, the distance between $h_2$ and $q$ ($d(h_2,q)$),
and cell $c_8$ into the table $T_{vo}$ and table $T_{vc}$ shown as Figure~ref{f:data structure
access}(d) and Figure~ref{f:data structure access}(e). Then, the cell is accessed to get the
information of edge $e_3$ and $e_7$ (which connect with $n_1$) and to compute the distance
information (as shown in Figure~ref{f:data structure access}(c)). There has two cells ($c_4$ and
$c_8$) are accessed, we using the {bf Pruning rules} which is described in section 4.1.2. After the
{pruning rules}, the distance between $t_2$ and $h_2$ is smaller or equal than $d$ ($d(t_2,h_2) le
d$), so we kept this information in the table

How Does Shakespeare Present Malvolio In Twelfth Night
Shakespeare presents Malvolio (meaning ill will ) in a way that makes the characters dislike him and
feel entitled to subject him to horrific and embarrassing tricks. Perhaps it is a form of release for the
characters and audience members; Angela Carter states, Comedy is tragedy that happens to other
people. In a way this is true since it is Shakespeare s design to create comedy in Malvolio s
misfortune. This type of treatment in the real world would not be funny as it is taken too far; at first
they only make fun of him but then they start to humiliate and torture him even in context of Twelfth
Night being a comedy. The audience is aware of the tragedy that Malvolio goes through but whether
they choose to go on a moral recess or not is up to them. Some ... Show more content on

This is comical to the audience and Malvolio is not of high class and the Tudor sumptuary laws state
that only upper classes are allowed to wear them. It is hilarious because of how he references the letter
and so blatantly shows off, he completely goes against his character and Puritanism. Olivia s reaction
highlights how odd she finds it and orders, Good Maria, let this fellow be looked to. The use of the
word fellow shows that she pities him as she genuinely thinks he is ill, this is because instead of
calling him what he is, a steward, she merely references his gender to show that she is considering him
as a human. However, Shakespeare makes the situation so that Malvolio does not fully recognise that
he has been tricked and therefore what he cannot understand cannot affect him. He is not aware that
everything is just a joke played at his expense, and therefore feeling sorry for someone who is not
aware that they are meant to be pitied for seems pointless. It may provoke sympathy as the audience
no longer see him as just a Puritan nuisance but as a fellow

Basketball and Soccer
America is a country that loves sports. Two of America s most popular sports are basketball and
soccer. Many children participate in the sports every year. Similarities are abundant between the two.
Both sports require team work. Also the main purpose of both is to put a ball into a netted goal.
However, there are some very important key differences. Soccer is played on a field that is much
larger and there is a goalie that constantly defends the goal. While basketball is played on a smaller
hardwood court with fewer players active at once. Furthermore, soccer is low scoring and more
strategic when compared to basketball, which has final scores in the hundreds. All in all, many
similarities there are huge differences between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Effects Of Environmental Pollution On The Environment
Abstract
Pollutants are impacting aquatic organisms disposed by daily human activities and natural
occurrences. An extensive amount of pollutants such as pesticides, heavy metals, and hydrocarbons
can result in direct significant damage, e.g. death. However lower levels of these harmful substances
can be stored in an organism and increase as it continues and follows up the food chain, a process
called biomagnification or bioaccumulation, having the greatest effect on the top predator of that food
chain. A common result of the pollutants can lead to stress, changing of the immune system, inhibit
lysozyme activity, damage gills, metabolism, and growth. Other factors include an excessive amount
of nutrients in the environment. Nitrogen can make its way into aquatic ecosystems when there is an
increase in nitrous oxide in the air, allowing eutrophication. Algae and bacteria feed off the nitrogen,
so a high number of these organisms appear and use oxygen around them as the feed, causing hypoxic
zones, or dead zones. Acidification, an increase in the ecosystem s pH acidity from acid rain, which
occurs from an increase in CO2 from air pollution. Aquatic organisms have a range of tolerance, and
water with high acidic pH will lead the organism out of the range of tolerance, resulting in stress of
the organism, and eventually death. Further studies are being pursuited to see larger impacts of
globalized pollution on aquatic species and their ecosystems.

Analyzing The Aesthetics Of Figure Skating
Watching Evgeni Plushenko come to his victory for Russia once again in this Winter Olympics in
Vancouver, I found myself realising why figure skating has always been viewed as a very feminine
sport. They swing their arms dramatically with constant hand motions and exaggerate their facial
expressions. Every single routine is punctuated with these moves. The sparkly and rhinestone covered
costumes often look like they were designed for a children s beauty pageant. Dick Button, a gold
medalist in 1948 and 52, describes viewing them as being trapped in a windmill in the Metropolitan
Opera House costume department. 1 No wonder our society has always viewed figure skating as a
softer sport.2
The expressive nature and emphasis on aesthetics of figure skating is what makes it such a soft sport,
otherwise described as a sport for girls in this case, girly men. I felt like these men were constantly
trying to be graceful without being feminine yet their costumes did not help prove their masculinity
whatsoever. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plushenko scores low in this criterion but the notoriously flamboyant American male figure skater,
Johnny Weir, may just be the worst of them all. Weir is known for his over the top performances and
fashion style. He once was dressed in a pink and black costume that was unnecessarily sheer, which he
happened to design himself. Funny enough, Claude Mailhot, a French commentator even thought that
he might have lost points due to his costume and his body language during his performance in the
Olympics3. And in response, Alain Goldberg says, we should make [Weir] pass a gender test at this

The United States believes that Ciudad Juarez is the future because it allows big factories to produce in Mexico and have easy access to America to ship their goods to sell. On top of easy access, Mexico does not have the same minimum wage limit so big businesses are allowed to get very cheap labor, which allows the product to be sold cheaper. In reality Ciudad Juarez is one of the most dangerous cities in the world due to the cartels and police. Since 1993 a pattern of femicides (killing of women) estimates about 400 were women killed between the ages of 11 24 (Stacy L. Mallicoat, 2012, p246). Even though the United States thinks this city is working out for the best; but it is a huge poverty town whose main production is trafficking women and drugs. Femicides have been linked to larger social issues like masculine identity and allowing females to enter the workforce. Some countries believe it is okay for a guy to be violent against a woman. Also when a woman enters the work force it can cause a threat to men masculinity. To help allow women to enter the work force without the men feeling that they are taking over their jobs they can open up more jobs for men. • 3. Visual Analysis of the Hall of Supreme Harmony Forbidden city is the imperial palace of China for many decays since the Ming dynasty. The imperial palace was not only the home for the emperor but also the conference hall and workshops for the emperor and his subjects. The Forbidden City is divided into two parts, the outer part and the inner part. The outer part of the city is to the public and the inner part is where the emperor and his family lived. The Hall of Supreme Harmony, Taihedian, is the first of the three halls in the Forbidden City where the emperor sees his subjects. Yongle, one of the Ming emperors, first built the Hall of Supreme Harmony in 1427.1 In both Ming and Qing dynasties there were twenty four emperors held the enthronement ceremony in this hall. Because of many reasons such as fires that the Hall of Supreme Harmony was under many times of construction. The building that visitors see today is not the original from the Ming Dynasty. The Hall of the Supreme Harmony follows Chinese philosophies such as Confucianism and Taoism into structures, setting, and symbols. The Hall of Supreme Harmony has unique structures. Some parts of the architecture of the Hall of Supreme Harmony are based on the Confuses philosophy called Confucianism. Confucianism is the ideology that created the Son of Heaven, a person is given the right by heaven to rule China, which has the equivalent meaning to the Mandate of Heaven. Now, ask yourself this: Did Jeff Bezos become the richest man in the world, by commanding those around him? Did Steve Jobs or Bill Gates change the world of technology. by ordering people around? No one change the world for the better through absolute power, rather, these people changed the world by inspiring everyone around them. However, some people disrespect this, and Take it too far such as, physically destroying the flag, or desecrating the flag by burning it down into a pulp. This is currently illegal in several major countries. I believe that desecration of the flag is not permissible, and should stay illegal in the United States. First of all, the flag, obviously stated in the first paragraph, is a venerated symbol of the country it represents. Burning and desecrating the flag would signify disrespect. Analyzing Searle s Chinese Room Argument Searle s Chinese Room Searle s Chinese Room argument tackles the question if computers can really understand or think for themselves, and if this understanding can be expressed through related terms. It is imperative to comment that this argument challenges the idea of strong AI instead of weak AI. Strong AI is the view that programmed computers can understand natural language along with other mental skills similar to humans. An example of strong AI is a computer that can play a board game intelligently or fathom a language. Weak AI is the understanding that computers are only useful in things like psychology or grammar. The great difference is that weak AI makes no claim that computers actually understand or are intellectual. The Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Searle states in his writing, The point of the argument is this: if the man in the room does not understand Chinese on the basis of implementing the appropriate program for understanding Chinese then neither does any other digital computer solely on that basis because no computer, qua computer, has anything the man does not have. It is important to understand that this computation is just rule based symbol manipulation, and that the manipulation and matching is done purely on the basis of the shape of the symbols, not on their meaning. This is central for the discussion of intelligent AI because it claims that artificial intelligence will never be able to understand and think for its own. It will always rely on a human controller to give it the inputs that it needs to have a matching output. Searle points out that in executing the program not even he would understand the messages. He would only manipulate symbols, on the basis of their shapes, according to the rules in the manual. Therefore, because of the hardware independence of computation, if Searle would not be understanding Chinese under those conditions, neither would any other piece of hardware executing that Chinese Turing Test passing program. This argument directly argues against the theory that cognition is just computation that both humans and AI can achieve. Another way to state this argument in a more simplified manner is that programs are entirely syntactical and because minds have a semantics, programs are not minds because syntax isn t the same as ... Freedom is a fork in the road a trail that leads to fortune in a field of traps. Humans have freedom and hold it as children do crayons, straying beyond the lines of purpose only to get lost in meaningless scribbles. Dante condemns these actions in his poem Purgatory. Dante invents a fictitious location in afterlife, liberating souls that have become prisoners of their own disarray. With a collection of paradoxes, vivid imagery, and active examples, Dante establishes a thorough process in which souls can be cleansed of the past and stride to their future. Once liberated from one s tainted ability to reason, one must surrender him self to a higher power that will guide him accurately through the trials hurdled toward him. If man alone was responsible to hold himself accountable, he would inevitably taste the savor of some lesser good and chase it, destroying the freedom of [his] will (Dante 173) and fall victim to the seasons of his own desires. Men need some rein or guide (Dante 175) to direct their overhot desires (Dante 265) or they will escalade like weeds growing over a fertile field (Dante 355). Men see the goodness of the matter but cannot do everything by the power of will (Dante 231) allowing their discretion to grow weary in the first battles (Dante 173). Without at least a modicum of respect, the virtues taught by the Lakota would be less valuable to us as a society. • 14. Characteristics Of A Representative Democracy I. Introduction Though the modern academic may describe a political regime as a democracy , what they almost always imply is that said political regime is a representative democracy. A representative democracy obtains its legitimacy from the agency of the people; for a democracy to be representative, officials are elected to represent the interests of their citizens and are thus accountable to both the rules of political institutions and the needs of their constituents. The most basic facets to a representative democracy such as free and fair elections and strong competition between political parties are cornerstones to the structuring of a representative democracy, and yet there are cases within the past century in which representative democracies with elections and competitive political parties descend into authoritarian regimes. So though the election of representatives is paramount to modern democracies, there are other factors that constitute what Leonardo Morlino calls the qualities of democracy. Morlino subdivides the qualities of a democracy into rule of law, electoral accountability, institutional accountability, competition, participation, freedom and equality, and responsiveness. There is no denial that all seven of these criteria Morlino are essential to the establishment and maintenance of a representative democracy. However, I would like to argue that four of the most important aspects to assessing the quality of a democracy are independent branches of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market Shareen Sidhu University of Maryland University College The Affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 was implemented and designed to protect the interests of the investing public and the mission is to set and enforce practice standards for a new class of firms registered to audit publicly held companies (Verschoor, 2012). During the early 2000 s, the world saw an alarming number of accounting scandals take place resulting in many corporations going bankrupt. Some of the major companies involved in these scandals were from Enron, WorldCom, and one of the top five accounting and auditing firms, Arthur Andersen. These companies were dishonest with their financial statements, assuring the public the company was very successful, when in reality they were not. This became a problem because if the public believes a company is doing well, they are more likely to invest in it. That is to say, once these companies were exposed, it caused a number of companies going bankrupt and a major mistrust between the public and the capital market. Consequently, the federal government quickly took action and enacted the Sarbanes Oxley act of 2002, also known as SOX, which was created by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). With knowing all of the hard work that goes into learning a new language, I wanted to see what things were like for those who wanted to learn the English language. A language that is most commonly used around the world and one that is set to help many gain much reward. For my interview I decided to interview my coworker Anastasia. Anastasia was born in Estonia, a small country within Europe. Her father was a military doctor so they moved around a lot throughout the country. When she was six months old Anastasia and her family moved to Moldova. After living in Moldova for the next 25 years she and her husband decided they wanted to give their new born baby girl a better life in the US so they decided to make the move. Anastasia s native language is Romanian which is spoken throughout Moldova as well as Russian. For her she began to learn the English language at a pretty early age. • 28. The Longest Running Fued is the Sunni and Shia Conflict The Sunni and Shia conflict is currently the longest running feud in the world. Both groups possess an extreme hatred for one another. Over the years, these two groups have openly expressed their hatred with one another through violent killings. This split between the Shia and Sunni originates all the way back in the 7th century. Their difference was based on political differences. As a part of my essay I will explain the difference and origins of the split between the Shi a and Sunni and also cover the current issues between them. I have always assumed that the Sunni and Shia conflict is similar to the war between the Catholic and Protestant, however it is much more complex and different. These two branches of Islam share the same Holy Book and all agree that Allah is there God. Sunni and Shia both believe that the last prophet was Muhammad. However, when Muhammad died, there was a disagreement of who would be Muhammad s successor. There were two candidates to be the successor of Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Ali bin Abi Talib. Ali bin Abi Talib was Muhammad s cousin and son in law. Abu Bakr was Muhammad s friend and senior companion. The Sunni Muslims believed that the leadership should be granted to the person with most experience. On the other hand, the Shi a believed the decision should be based purely through Muhammad s bloodline. The majority of Muslim ended up choosing Abu Bakr to be the Caliph (successor). However, Abu Bakr s rule was shortlived when he died in 634 CE. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Autism Is A Complex Disability Essay Autism is a complex disability, as the way it manifests in each child differs in severity across numerous characteristics. Children diagnosed with autism qualify to receive special services and a free, appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment under the federal legislation, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 15). Autism was added to IDEA in 1990 as a new disability category. The legislation defines autism as a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, generally evident before age 3 that adversely affects a child s educational performance (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 301). The Rules for the Provision of Special Education from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction of Washington state also outlines eligibility and individualized education programs for children diagnosed with autism (Rules for the Provision of Special Education, p. 11 46). Furthermore, the DSM diagnoses autism when a child shows qualitative impairments in social interaction, communication, and restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 302). In 2011, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that on average, 1 in 10 children each year are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 304). So to fit more cars into a small space there are lifts. One kind of lift is called the Robotic Parking System. It enables parking from several hundred cars to several thousand in half the amount of space. A person would drive their car into the parking terminal, and sensors would ensure that the car was placed correctly. The driver would exit the vehicle, lock the doors and take a parking card from the kiosk. A computer system then lifts the car and places it on a shelving system. When one is ready to leave they place their parking card into a kiosk and the system locates their car and brings it down. The screen then displays where the driver can pick up their car. This also insures safe parking since it is impossible for someone to break and steal your car. An additional option that is probably the least expensive would be for students to park in parking garages in downtown Silver Spring. Shuttles buses could be provided by the College to pick up students from the garage and at the end of the day the shuttle could bring the students back to their cars. No solution goes without having its issues, whether it is structural, financial or aesthetic. Some of the solutions to expand the parking are more reasonable, while some will cost a pretty penny. Protecting Ip And The Ethical Issues Related In a world where innovation, technology, and the digital age is moving at such a rapid rate, Intellectual Property (IP) becomes a hot button across business, law and ethics. In like manner, the complications with protecting and managing IP increases. The demand on IP policy has grown from the need to protect a simple invention, such as a light bulb, to the need to protect an idea, a slogan, or even a gene (i.e. biotech). To further complicate things, IP protections are no longer just in the interest of preserving a trade secret; it is now focused on monetary gains, economic strength and a means for businesses to compete. By striking the right balance between the interests of innovators and the wider public interest, the IP system aims to foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish. Therefore, IP is a critical piece of our country s economic development, social and cultural welfare. Enforcement of these protections are relied upon in many industries, scientists and not to mention, many artists. It helps to foster competition, betterment, creativity and innovation. In addition, the American consumer benefits as IP ensures they are purchasing products that are safe and effective. Given these points, there is no doubt that IP rights must be protected in order for the U.S. to continue to be productive. One key reason protecting IP is important is its impact on the U.S. job market. IP industries put forty million Americans to work and it is expected that as technology continues to advance, those industries will continue to grow and do so rapidly. This is expected to happen not just in the U.S., but globally. In addition, IP intensive positions tend to pay higher salaries averaging about $50,576 per employee in comparison to the national average of $38,768. However, their uses of these themes are different; while Stowe used a precise focus on a Christian polemic against slavery, Melville intentionally de centralized his text in a way that asks the reader to look beyond the medium of expression to the truth which lays behind it, but cannot be contained in it. Neither one of them can be precisely placed in any of the religious categories of the period; Calvinism (both orthodox and reformed), Unitarianism, Transcendentalism, and liberal Christocentric humanism all exerted definite influences on both works, but both works similarly resist direct placement not only because of the syncretic nature of their programs, but the fluidity of these very traditions. Therefore, while some hesitancy is a necessary hazard of such a investigation, it nevertheless preserves a respect for the complexity of the religious history involved. With this much said precautionarily, it is nevertheless possible to place both of these works in the climate of questioning, re definition, and uncertainty which occurred in the American political and social scenes as part of this religious shift. The first important factor in this shift was the Second Great Awakening; while William McLoughlin dates its conclusion at 1830, it had an important influence on both of these works which were composed between 1850 and 1852. This movement established a break from the Calvinism of Jonathan Edwards through both in popular form of revivals and its connection to the more elite movement of Unitarianism, and thus set a precedent for later religious reform. The length of time for the AWR 2010 to be passed emphasises the struggle for the agency worker to obtain the rights within the UK as well as Europe. Despite opposition from British government, other Member States initially supported the Directive. This can be extracted from how the agency worker is viewed as a cover piece, and is only considered from a business perspective, rather than another type of worker who should have more, if not equal rights, to those there on a permanent basis. Although there have same value of $d(q,o)$ between queue entry {8,14,$e_{10}$,$n_{10}$,$c_6$} and {8,8,$e_6$,$n_6$,$c_1$}, we kept the {8,14,$e_{10}$,$n_{10}$,$c_6$} priority in {8,14,$e_{10}$,$n_{10}$,$c_6$}. Because the $d(q,o)$ is not equal to $d(q,n_i)$ means there has objects on the edge of entry {8,14,$e_{10}$,$n_{10}$,$c_6$}. Again, accessing the cell $c_8$, the object $h_2$ is accessed, we put the object $h_2$, the distance between $h_2$ and $q$ ($d(h_2,q)$), and cell $c_8$ into the table $T_{vo}$ and table $T_{vc}$ shown as Figure~ref{f:data structure access}(d) and Figure~ref{f:data structure access}(e). Then, the cell is accessed to get the information of edge $e_3$ and $e_7$ (which connect with $n_1$) and to compute the distance information (as shown in Figure~ref{f:data structure access}(c)). There has two cells ($c_4$ and $c_8$) are accessed, we using the {bf Pruning rules} which is described in section 4.1.2. After the {pruning rules}, the distance between $t_2$ and $h_2$ is smaller or equal than $d$ ($d(t_2,h_2) le d$), so we kept this information in the table ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. How Does Shakespeare Present Malvolio In Twelfth Night Shakespeare presents Malvolio (meaning ill will ) in a way that makes the characters dislike him and feel entitled to subject him to horrific and embarrassing tricks. Perhaps it is a form of release for the characters and audience members; Angela Carter states, Comedy is tragedy that happens to other people. In a way this is true since it is Shakespeare s design to create comedy in Malvolio s misfortune. This type of treatment in the real world would not be funny as it is taken too far; at first they only make fun of him but then they start to humiliate and torture him even in context of Twelfth Night being a comedy. The audience is aware of the tragedy that Malvolio goes through but whether they choose to go on a moral recess or not is up to them. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is comical to the audience and Malvolio is not of high class and the Tudor sumptuary laws state that only upper classes are allowed to wear them. It is hilarious because of how he references the letter and so blatantly shows off, he completely goes against his character and Puritanism. Olivia s reaction highlights how odd she finds it and orders, Good Maria, let this fellow be looked to. The use of the word fellow shows that she pities him as she genuinely thinks he is ill, this is because instead of calling him what he is, a steward, she merely references his gender to show that she is considering him as a human. However, Shakespeare makes the situation so that Malvolio does not fully recognise that he has been tricked and therefore what he cannot understand cannot affect him. He is not aware that everything is just a joke played at his expense, and therefore feeling sorry for someone who is not aware that they are meant to be pitied for seems pointless. It may provoke sympathy as the audience no longer see him as just a Puritan nuisance but as a fellow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Basketball and Soccer America is a country that loves sports. Two of America s most popular sports are basketball and soccer. Many children participate in the sports every year. Similarities are abundant between the two. Both sports require team work. Also the main purpose of both is to put a ball into a netted goal. However, there are some very important key differences. Soccer is played on a field that is much larger and there is a goalie that constantly defends the goal. While basketball is played on a smaller hardwood court with fewer players active at once. Furthermore, soccer is low scoring and more strategic when compared to basketball, which has final scores in the hundreds. All in all, many similarities there are huge differences between ... In America basketball is one of the most popular and highly watched sports. On the other hand soccer is rarely even televised in most areas. Only when the American team is doing well internationally does any soccer attention start to build in America. However, the rest of the world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Effects Of Environmental Pollution On The Environment Abstract Pollutants are impacting aquatic organisms disposed by daily human activities and natural occurrences. An extensive amount of pollutants such as pesticides, heavy metals, and hydrocarbons can result in direct significant damage, e.g. death. However lower levels of these harmful substances can be stored in an organism and increase as it continues and follows up the food chain, a process called biomagnification or bioaccumulation, having the greatest effect on the top predator of that food chain. A common result of the pollutants can lead to stress, changing of the immune system, inhibit lysozyme activity, damage gills, metabolism, and growth. Other factors include an excessive amount of nutrients in the environment. Nitrogen can make its way into aquatic ecosystems when there is an increase in nitrous oxide in the air, allowing eutrophication. Algae and bacteria feed off the nitrogen, so a high number of these organisms appear and use oxygen around them as the feed, causing hypoxic zones, or dead zones. Acidification, an increase in the ecosystem s pH acidity from acid rain, which occurs from an increase in CO2 from air pollution. Aquatic organisms have a range of tolerance, and water with high acidic pH will lead the organism out of the range of tolerance, resulting in stress of the organism, and eventually death. Further studies are being pursuited to see larger impacts of globalized pollution on aquatic species and their ecosystems. Keywords: Pollutants, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Analyzing The Aesthetics Of Figure Skating Watching Evgeni Plushenko come to his victory for Russia once again in this Winter Olympics in Vancouver, I found myself realising why figure skating has always been viewed as a very feminine sport. They swing their arms dramatically with constant hand motions and exaggerate their facial expressions. Every single routine is punctuated with these moves. The sparkly and rhinestone covered costumes often look like they were designed for a children s beauty pageant. Dick Button, a gold medalist in 1948 and 52, describes viewing them as being trapped in a windmill in the Metropolitan Opera House costume department. 1 No wonder our society has always viewed figure skating as a softer sport.2 The expressive nature and emphasis on aesthetics of figure skating is what makes it such a soft sport, otherwise described as a sport for girls in this case, girly men. I felt like these men were constantly trying to be graceful without being feminine yet their costumes did not help prove their masculinity whatsoever. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plushenko scores low in this criterion but the notoriously flamboyant American male figure skater, Johnny Weir, may just be the worst of them all. Weir is known for his over the top performances and fashion style. He once was dressed in a pink and black costume that was unnecessarily sheer, which he happened to design himself. Funny enough, Claude Mailhot, a French commentator even thought that he might have lost points due to his costume and his body language during his performance in the Olympics3. And in response, Alain Goldberg says, we should make [Weir] pass a gender test at this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
