I found a passion for teaching after delivering a one off drumming workshop nearly 10 years ago, So I decided to retrain and share my knowledge with others.
I hope you find my post a useful read and please feel free to use any of the resources that I've created
Summary of the first year of the CSU Channel Islands Online Teaching Preparation Program: Spring 2014-Fall 2014. This faculty development program consists of three fully online courses: How to Humanize Your Online Course, How to Design Your Online Course, and Designing Engaging Online Activities. How did the first years' participants respond to learning to teach online through the lens of an online student? Did they feel the classes were worth their time? How much time did they spend on these courses? What did they learn?

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Kenya Velez
Kenya Velez was one of the
students who participated in
Pace Prep over the summer. Her
academic materials page
showcases the projects she
worked on, as well as her
ePortfolio skills by arranging the
different components of her
summer work aesthetically.
3. • ”[O]verall, I just would like to thank everyone
who made…this course, to enrich and give the
students a better view of…college life.”
~Kenya Velez
4. Sydney Currie
Sydney’s profile
page includes a
great
introduction, tellin
g us who she is
and what her
passions are, as
well as an
awesome snapshot
of the Broadway
sign.
5. "As an incoming freshman I was lucky to
[have] the opportunity to work with professors
over the summer. I do not regret this decision
because it helped me move forward in
experiencing college prior to the fall
semester, and I recommend the summer
courses for all incoming freshman. This
summer I learned so much about myself: how
to balance work, my strengths and
weakness, and how to improve them. During
the course I got to have a one-on-one
connection with the professors because of
their encouragement and challenges. My
biggest change over the summer was finding
my own voice, due to the professors’ openness
of our opinions".
~Sydney Currie
6. Rianna Chase
Rianna’s Academic Materials page
is a great example of the different
ways you can present your course
work on ePortfolio. She included
her class assignments at the
top, as well as in downloadable
files on the side. She enhanced the
page by adding
wordles, videos, and pictures
related to her studies and field of
interest.
7. • “Over the summer I was worried about
academically transitioning to
college, but luckily I was aware of the
Pace Prep Summer Course. After
completing the course, I can definitely
say that it has been a huge benefit. I was
able to brush up on my basic academic
skills and even learn about different
career fields and their majors.
Also, working with ePortfolio and
Blackboard gave me the advantage of
learning how to use those sites.
Overall, I am so grateful and thankful to
have had the opportunity of working
with the Pace Prep Course this past
summer and having it help me transition
into Pace University smoothly.”
