PEDAGOGY
Professional Learning Communities was a focus in my credential program and has always been a key piece in the
success of my classroom. By engaging colleagues in active discussion and practice of collaborative projects and
assessments, our students have benefited through equitable and well-planned lessons, formative and summative
assessments that make sense for student development, analytical activities, and creative means of engaging students
in endearing learning. By involving teachers across the curriculum in collaborative learning, the students have
benefited from the well-rounded and shared lessons we have produced.
With a Master's Degree in Literacy, I am a believer in the importance of student-centered, standards-based
curriculum that supports and fully implements Common Core ideologies and strategies,. With focus on the State and
Common Core Standards to be addressed, a higher-level thinking focus question to aspire to answer, and a clear,
visible daily and monthly planner to encourage student success, student sin my classroom are made to feel supported
and encouraged. Project-based learning coupled with a strong reading, writing, and analysis curriculum, has
propelled my classroom to a community of active learners who are involved in consistent inquiry-based learning and
a sense of genuine interest and ownership in the process of learning and growing within the Social Sciences. With a
focus on Portfolio development, collaborative learning, and reading and writing proficiency, students at all abilities
and levels are excelling in my classroom, finding a renewed spirit for learning, and gaining valuable preparation for
college, citizenship, and the workplace. Incorporating technology into my lessons as well as student projects has
fostered growth in the use of technology and technology applications in my students, encouraging the development
and use of critical skills for success in today’s technologically advanced world. Equally important, I teach and
reinforce notetaking and reading comprehension skills as well as analytical and expository thinking and writing
through consistent practice and thoughtful feedback.
I believe it is the responsibility of the school’s teachers, administration, and support staff to encourage and support
parent involvement in the process of educating our children and to foster that involvement once it is accomplished. I
work closely with each of my students, especially struggling students, and their parents by utilizing Grade
Improvement Plans, parent contacts, and through student/parent conferences. Equally important, I work to maintain
an active and informative website that includes student expectations and features helpful resources, updated grades,
due dates, and assignment details for convenient parent and student review.
Finally, I am a reflective teacher with consistent focus on building upon my lesson plans in an effort to improve
upon, keep current, and ensure student-centered lessons that turn learning into an experience. I am open to, and
encourage, feedback from my administrators, colleagues, and students, and I work to ensure that new methodologies
that are sound and responsible are incorporated in my daily lessons and activities.
MENTOR TEACHING
It is critical to support student teachers in every step of their training, from observations through their independent
teaching experience. I am an active participant in the classroom, offering moral, academic, and planning support
with consistent and learning-driven, positive reinforcement. In their training, student teachers in my care receive
support in lesson planning, assessment, grading/grade reporting, parent/administrative correspondence, classroom
management, and extracurricular involvement. I am mindful in modeling for student teachers preparedness,
involvement, and student-centered teaching; advocating their involvement in learning communities as well as an
emphasis on employing Backward Planning, SIOP, and Common Core techniques into their classroom practices.
PERSONAL
I am a high-energy person with a special gift of opening people up and putting smiles on their faces. I am a strong
team player and an advocate of and active participant in Professional Learning Communities and Common Core
implementation. I consider teaching a life choice and come to my job with enthusiasm and a sense of pride in my
position in the community every day. As a graduate of Capistrano Unified School District’s elementary, middle,
and high school (SCHS) programs, and a home owner in San Clemente, I feel a sense of deep rooting and belonging
in my area and I strive to participate in my community in an active and positive role by teaching its children to
