THE OXYGEN-CARBON
DIOXIDE CYCLE.
Oxygen-Carbon Dioxide Cycle
 Both are important GASSES to all living
things.
 Unlike water which always stays water,
oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2)
convert back and forth as they cycle on
the planet.

Carbon moves
around in
different parts
of the earth.
This is known
as the Carbon
Cycle.
ANIMAL CONTRIBUTION
 During respiration
(breathing), animals
inhale oxygen (O2)
and convert it to
carbon dioxide
(CO2).
PLANT CONTRIBUTION
 During
photosynthesis (the
process where
plants make food for
themselves) plants
breathe in carbon
dioxide (CO2) and
exhale oxygen (O2).
DECOMPOSERS
 Dead organic
material contains
carbon dioxide
(CO2), so as
decomposers break
down the tissue,
carbon dioxide is
released into the
atmosphere.
FOSSIL FUELS
 Oil, Gas, Coal are
examples. When
these fuels are
burned, they release
carbon dioxide
(CO2) and water
(H2O) into the
atmosphere.
Where all is Carbon present?
What is CO2 or Carbon Cycle?
How do plants and snimals have Carbon
in them?
What factors are causing imbalances in
the Carbon Cycle?
What can further imbalance in the
Carbon Cycle/ CO2 cycle lead to?
What can we do to restore the balance of
the Carbon cycle?
