In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, Quirrell, a professor at Hogwarts, hides behind false
pretenses. He is hired by professor Dumbledore to teach defense against the dark arts. As Harry
begins his first year at Hogwarts he begins to find himself in troublesome situations. Thus, leads
Harry and his peers to learn about the stone that possesses the power to bring back Voldemort.
They believe that someone in the castle is after it. However they have no suspicion of Quirrell s

The Unnecessary Destruction of Hiroshima
On August 6th, 1945, at 8:15 Japan time, the United States dropped an atomic bomb named
Little Boy on Hiroshima, Japan. Little Boy was dropped from the Enola Gay, from 31,000ft and
detonated at 1,900ft above Hiroshima. Dropping the atomic bomb destroyed the city, ruined and
negatively changed people s lives, and killed thousands of people. Some say it was necessary to
drop it because of the lives it saved. It didn t save lives. It was unnecessary to drop the atomic
bomb because of the amount of destruction and lives it ruined.
The atomic bomb caused a lot of unnecessary destruction when it was dropped on Hiroshima. It had
destroyed houses and work buildings in Hiroshima, such as the hospital in which Dr. Fujii lived
and worked. Dr. Fujii s hospital was smashed all around him in a mad assortment of splintered
lumber and materials for the relief of pain (John Hersey, 11). Buildings were blown apart, caught
fire, and completely obliterated. Two thirds of Hiroshima were demolished. Out of the 90,000
buildings in Hiroshima, 60,000 buildings were destroyed within a three mile radius of the
epicenter. The havoc could have been avoided by not dropping the atomic bomb.
Many people had their lives unfairly changed and even ruined from the atomic bomb. The victims
of radiation poisoning and burns had to deal with disfiguring ailments. They had dark burns across
their bodies. Their hair burned off. Skin drooped from the radiation and blast. The bomb also

Prior to taking this course, I had put very little thought into my culture let alone grappled with the
fact that culture is far more complex than something that we simply have. Early in the semester we
touched upon the fact that culture is, in actuality, much more nuanced and is something practiced

In the speech and language section students need to ask meaning of words. This determines
whether or not the child will be involved in the learning process in a classroom setting. The student
must describe pictures and experiences. They must use appropriate verb tenses and grammar.
This will ensure a core of knowledge for the kindergarten curriculum. Also, the student must
recognize simple jokes, riddles, and absurdities. (Gisler and Eberts). The student s gross motor
coordination should also be an important factor in determining the child s readiness for

the nature of love and marriage, but the place marriage holds in society. During this time in
Victorian society and throughout history, many women married for financial security and social
standing. It was only through their husbands that woman could hope continue living in the lifestyle
to which they were privileged to gain political power. Lady Bracknell s marriage was one of the
marriages that was clearly for business and not for love. Wilde shows how Lady Bracknell has
no emotions for Lord Bracknell; she doesn t even really care about him but only uses him to
increase her own social standing. Similarly, Lady Bracknell also does the same when she tries to
arrange for an eligible suitor for her daughter Gwendolyn, not considering whether Gwendolyn
loves the man or not. He must be in the same social standing as they are and must also belong to
