Organogenesis is the process by which the three germ layers (ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm) develop into the internal organs of an organism. Cells from each germ layer proliferate, migrate, and reaggregate to form various tissues that then differentiate into organs. The germ layers develop organs through folding, splitting, and condensation of cells. In humans, internal organ development through organogenesis occurs between 3 to 8 weeks of gestation.
