Understanding learning theories helps educators know how to communicate content to the students effectively.
Educators will then organize delivery of instruction and help students become successful.

Learning, as a cognitive process, involves acquiring knowledge, skills, understanding, and behaviors through experience, study, practice, or teaching. It's a fundamental aspect of human cognition, enabling individuals to adapt, solve problems, make decisions, and improve their performance in various domains of life. Cognitive processes play a critical role in how we perceive, encode, store, and retrieve information during the learning process.

Andreas Schleicher presents at the OECD webinar ‘Digital devices in schools: detrimental distraction or secret to success?’ on 27 May 2024. The presentation was based on findings from PISA 2022 results and the webinar helped launch the PISA in Focus ‘Managing screen time: How to protect and equip students against distraction’ https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/education/managing-screen-time_7c225af4-en and the OECD Education Policy Perspective ‘Students, digital devices and success’ can be found here - https://oe.cd/il/5yV
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. Learning
Learning is an important part of human
behaviour. It is continuous process. The
capacity of human mind is unlimited. Right
from his birth to the whole life, all men are
engaged in learning process.
Learning refers to a permanent change in
behaviour that is caused by experience.

3. Theories of Learning
Classical Conditioning.
Operant Conditioning.
Social-Learning Theory.
Social-Cognitive Theory.

4. Classical Conditioning
The theory of classical conditioning is developed by
famous Russian Psychologist Ivan Pavlov.
Classical conditioning states that behaviour is
learned by repetition association between a
stimulus and response.
by: Dr Nitin Sharma
5. The next step taken by Pavlov was to link the meat
and the ringing of the bell. After repeatedly ringing
the bell and giving meat to dog simultaneously,
pavlov rang the bell without giving the meat. This
time, the dog salivated to the bell alone.

6. Operant Conditioning or
Reinforcement Theory
B.F. Skinner developed the operant conditioning
theory.
Operant conditioning is defined as behaviour that
produces effects. Voluntary behavious are called
operants. It suggests that people learn to get
something they want or avoid something they don't
want.
They repeat those responses which are rewarded
and will not those which are either not rewarded or
punished.
by: Dr Nitin Sharma
7. Social Learning Theory
Individual also learn by observing their
models whom they admire. Much of what we
have learned so far came from watching our
models like parents, teachers, peers,
superiours, telivisions. Thus learning through
both observation and direct experience has
been called Social-learning theory.

8. • Explicit and Implicit Knowledge/Information
• Explicit: Directly Stated, Clear, Obvious
• Implicit: Non directly stated, clues given
• Inference: Act or process using clues or evidence to
draw a conclusion.

10. • Tacit knowledge (as opposed to formal, codified or explicit
knowledge) is the kind of knowledge that is difficult to transfer
to another person by means of writing it down or verbalizing
it. For example, that London is in the United Kingdom is a
piece of explicit knowledge that can be written down,
transmitted, and understood by a recipient. However, the
ability to speak a language, knead dough, play a musical
instrument, or design and use complex equipment requires all
sorts of knowledge that is not always known explicitly, even
by expert practitioners, and which is difficult or impossible to
explicitly transfer to other people.by: Dr Nitin Sharma
