The Golgi apparatus packages and transports macromolecules and proteins within eukaryotic cells, which is essential for protein transport. It consists of flattened membrane sacs and vesicles that receive proteins from the rough ER and fuse with the plasma membrane to transport proteins outside the cell. The Golgi apparatus is allied with the rough ER and plasma membrane for protein transport and relies on vesicle transport between its structures.
