3. ORCHITIS
Inflammation of testes & it’s associated
structure & characterized by painful & warm
swelling of the testes
It also involves non specific inflammatory
changes but generally testicular
degeneration.
5. INCIDENCE
It is a rare & sporadic disease of domestic
animals except endemic area of
Brucella abortus or Tuberculosis
Unilateral orchitis is more common than
bilateral orchitis
6. CLINICAL SYMPTOMS
Severe pain of the testes
Visible swelling of the testes
Haematuria
Sometimes there may be swelling in the
inguinal lymphnode
Haematospermia
There may be wound or other lesions in the
scrotal skin
8. EFFECTS
Necrosis of the testicular tissue due to
inelastic tunica albuginea
Thrombosis of blood vessels & produced
heat result in testicular degeneration
The affected testes rapidly loses its activity to
function normally
9. DIAGNOSIS
Observation of the scrotal reveals one testes
to be larger than the others testes
Upon palpation, the scrotal content are
painful hot & edematous
Ultrasonography & Thermography
Culture
11. TREATMENT
Medical treatment of orchitis may not be sufficient
to return the testes to normal function.
Treatment may include-
Cold water application for 30 minutes & 3 times
daily
Prednisolone injectable at 1 mg/kg
Systemic treatment even high doses of antibiotics
never give satisfactory concentration in the testes
therefore antibiotics are of limited value in most
cases
Surgical removal of testicle
