Global enterprise mobility means
major application performance challenges
© Coevolve Pty Limited 2015
“As companies continue globalizing
their operations, they need to
extend the reach of their business-
critical enterprise … to a broader set
of geographically dispersed
employees, business partners and
customers. The ability to link the
extended enterprise with any IP-
based application without
installing and maintaining more
client software reduces
administrative overhead and
lowers the total cost of
ownership.”
— George Hamilton, Director, Enterprise
Infrastructure, Yankee Group
Mobility is transforming the enterprise
• Internet-connected devices are
becoming more widely deployed in the
enterprise, with BYOD acting as a major
driver
• Tablets are increasingly replacing laptops
for accessing enterprise applications
• Enterprises are making more
applications and services accessible
directly over the Internet than ever
before, replacing legacy VPN solutions
• VDI solutions are increasing in popularity
to address DLP and data sovereignty
issues
• SSL VPNs remain popular for clientless
access to applications
What are the drivers for enterprise mobility projects?
What is driving the increase in IP traffic globally?
© Coevolve Pty Limited 2015
The problem with delivering enterprise applications over the Internet
1. Network performance issues increase exponentially with latency – the further a user travels from
the application, the bigger the performance issue
2. You have no control over the last mile technology, quality or performance for remote users. This is
a much bigger challenge than improving WAN performance
3. End to end Internet performance remains highly variable
4. Application demand for bandwidth and performance continues to increase
5. The Internet-facing application mix is growing: SSL VPNs, VDI, Unified Comms, e-mail, web-based
productivity and reporting tools, ERP systems
6. Installing client software for VPNs or optimization is a challenge on enterprise-owned devices, and
almost impossible in a BYOD environment or where partners / clients are accessing applications
It is almost impossible to deliver a great remote user experience globally without distributing enterprise applications or infrastructure

 Unpredictable traffic flows
 No accountability
 High risk of packet loss and latency variation
 Performance degrades significantly with distance
End result: poor user experience
A better way to deliver
applications to remote users

Coevolve’s approach to optimizing remote user performance
• Our solution leverages DNS-based redirection and Aryaka’s private core network to provide an optimized path for enterprise apps
• Two variants of the solution are available:
Provides an optimized platform to deliver a high quality user experience for globally-distributed remote users
Web Application Delivery
as a Service
• Acceleration and caching solution for
static and dynamic web content
• Redirects traffic to use a private network
for majority of traffic flow
• Provides TCP optimization and
predictable latency
• Focused on B2B websites that have lower
traffic volumes than mass-market
consumer sites
IP Application Delivery
as a Service
• Acceleration solution for all other IP-
based traffic
• Redirects traffic to use a private network
for majority of traffic flow
• Provides TCP optimization and
predictable latency
• Potential applications include FTP
transfers, SSL VPNs, Citrix, remote
desktop, unified communications
• The solution requires no equipment or client software deployed on the remote devices or application hosts
• Significant performance improvements for enterprise applications

Choosing a better path
• Without an optimized solution in place, a request from a remote device to connect to an Internet-facing application will use a
regular DNS lookup and will receive the actual IP address of the application
• There is typically no ability to influence the path that the traffic will take between the client and server
• This results in performance issues common to all Internet-based traffic carried over long distances

Geographic distribution of PoPs
• The service is designed with PoPs
within 30ms of almost every major
business center in the world
• Private core linking PoPs provides
stable latencies for end to end
traffic flows
• Strong ‘outbound’ peering
provides many connectivity
options between PoPs and local
ISPs in each country
• TCP optimization and compression
performed on all applicable traffic
traversing the solution
• Highly effective caching performed
for web content
Traffic visibility &
use cases

Traffic visibility
• The solution provides real-time access into the usage of the service
and the performance improvements that are delivered
• This results in a highly granular view of user activity, with the ability
to quickly identify and address application performance issues

Use cases
Globally-accessed web applications
SSL VPN head-end deployed in single region with
global users Enterprise applications deployed to users with tablets
and smartphones
Virtual Desktop and/or Citrix deployments
Remote users accessing Unified Communications
infrastructure (audio / video / web conferencing)

Where do you start?

Just do it!
• Testing this solution in your environment is extremely low-risk and non-intrusive
• You can create a test hostname that is only used by a controlled set of users during the proof of
concept (e.g., app2.company.com vs. app.company.com)
• We can set up a proof of concept in just a few days – all we need to know is the IP address(es) of the
application(s) you want to optimize, and the ports in use
• All of our real-world deployments have shown significant improvement in the performance of
demanding TCP and UDP applications, including web traffic, unified communications and SSL VPNs
• Real-time portal access allows the performance benefits to be quantified, in addition to user feedback
