An operating system manages a computer's memory and hardware/software, allowing users to interact without knowledge of its programming language. It consists of a kernel that controls basic functions and system programs, along with application programs. Popular modern operating systems include Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS, Linux, and more, which allow running software, displaying media, internet access and more out of the box through graphical user interfaces navigated by mouse.
