This document contains slides from an introductory OpenGL course. It begins with an overview of OpenGL and 3D graphics concepts. It then demonstrates how to draw basic polygons like triangles and quads using OpenGL functions. It also discusses projection and camera concepts in OpenGL. The document contains code for a simple function that draws a triangle and quad as an example of drawing the first polygons in OpenGL.
OpenGL ES 1.1 is the 3D graphics API used by the iPhone and while it is extremely powerful it can often be very intimidating to the beginner. One of the main issues is that while there is a great deal of documentation and tutorials for OpenGL like the “Red Book” and other sources online there seem to be very few available resources for Open GL ES. This session will introduce the concepts of developing with OpenGL ES 1.1 and demonstrate them via sample code.

Exploring Color Spaces with Gesture Tracking and Smart Bulbs (Distill 2014)Daniel Luxemburg
RGB, CMYK, HSV, HSL… We have a lot of ways to write code about colors. One thing they all have in common is that they define a space with more than two dimensions. When visualizing or interacting with these spaces we are forced to flatten them to fit on our two-dimensional screens and to interact with them using our puny, two-dimensional pointing devices. The results fail to convey the reasoning behind different modes of color definition. As a result, it can be difficult to develop an intuitive sense of what the numbers that go with these acronyms represent. In turn, communicating about color with others can be a challenge.

FLTK (pronounced "fulltick") is a cross-platform C++ GUI toolkit for UNIX®/Linux® (X11), Microsoft® Windows®, and MacOS® X. FLTK provides modern GUI functionality without the bloat and supports 3D graphics via OpenGL® and its built-in GLUT emulation. FLTK is designed to be small and modular enough to be statically linked, but works fine as a shared library. FLTK also includes an excellent UI builder called FLUID that can be used to create applications in minutes. FLTK is provided under the terms of the GNU Library Public License, Version 2 with exceptions that allow for static linking. More informations in http://www.fltk.org.

Ultra Fast, Cross Genre, Procedural Content Generation in Games [Master Thesis]Mohammad Shaker
In my MSc. thesis, I have re-tackled the problem of procedurally generating content for physics-based games I have previously investigated in my BSc. graduation thesis. This time around I propose two novel methods: the first is projection based for faster generation of physics-based games content. The other, The Progressive Generation, is a generic, wide-range, across genre, customisable with playability check method all bundled in a fast progressive approach. This new method is applied on two completely different games: NEXT And Cut the Rope.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
