Essay On Homelessness In America
Writing an essay on the topic of homelessness in America is undeniably challenging, as it
requires navigating through complex social issues, understanding the multifaceted causes and
effects of homelessness, and proposing viable solutions. The subject itself is sensitive and calls
for a balanced approach that combines empathy with critical analysis.
Researching the extent of homelessness, its root causes, and the impact on individuals and
communities demands a deep dive into various sources, including academic studies, government
reports, and firsthand accounts. The writer must grapple with statistics, legislative frameworks,
and the often heartbreaking stories of those experiencing homelessness.
Crafting a coherent and compelling narrative involves the delicate task of presenting the harsh
realities of homelessness while avoiding stereotypes and oversimplifications. Striking the right
tone is crucial to evoke empathy and understanding without sensationalizing or patronizing the
individuals facing homelessness.
The essay should also explore the societal factors that contribute to homelessness, such as
economic inequality, mental health issues, and systemic issues within the housing market.
Addressing potential solutions requires a thoughtful examination of public policies, community
initiatives, and the role of individuals in making a positive impact.
In addition to the intellectual challenges, emotional resilience is essential when delving into a
topic that involves human suffering and societal neglect. Writers must remain objective while
acknowledging the human stories behind the statistics.
In conclusion, writing an essay on homelessness in America is a formidable task that demands a
combination of research skills, empathy, and the ability to critically analyze complex social
issues. It is an endeavor that requires dedication to understanding the nuances of the problem
and proposing realistic and compassionate solutions.

Occupational Safety And Health Act
The Occupational Safety and Health Act passed in 1970. This act signals an
important moment in occupational safety and health. Prior to 1970, the occupational
safety and health were unsatisfactory. In fact, many accidents occurred in the
workplace because of chemicals, dusts, and dangerous machines. There were many
hazards in the workplace that contributed to terrible injuries and fatalities.
Furthermore, in 1970 an estimated 14,000 workers were killed on the job. After the
Occupational Safety and HealthAct passed, the number of injuries have declined.
Previously, businesses were not concerned about hazards in the workplace The
Occupational Safety and Health Act is an important topic to address because it led
the way for occupational safety and health. I choose to research this law in a
greater depth because I found it interesting how this law changed how businesses
prepare to prevent occupational health and safety hazards. There were minimal
efforts to ensure workplace health and safety. When people were injured or died,
they were easily replaced. In fact, it was cheaper to replace a worker than to actual
implement safety measures. Furthermore, the tort law did not help the survivors of
dead workers or injured employees. Over the years, there were minimal
improvements. Eventually labor unions formed and public anger about poor
workplace safety grew which led to a reduction in employee worker accidents for
some time. After World War II, people were concerned about winning
The Florida Museum Of Natural History
The Florida Museum of Natural History is a government sponsored museum that is
incorporated into the University of Florida in the city of Gainesville. The museum
was established by Frank Pickel, a professor of natural science at the Florida
Agricultural College in Lake City, and was dedicated to understanding, preserving,
and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage. The state of Florida
formally assumed ownership of the museum in 1917 and established it as part of the
state university system. The purpose of the museum is set by Florida State Statue
1004.56 and requires the museum to collect and maintain a depository of biological,
archaeological, and ethnographic specimens and materials in sufficient numbers and
quantities to provide within the state and region a base for research on the variety,
evolution, and conservation of wild species; the composition, distribution,
importance, and functioning of natural ecosystems; and the distribution of prehistoric
and historic archaeological sites and an understanding of the aboriginal and early
European cultures that occupied them. The major weaknesses of the museum are in
the absences of interactive educational displays, adjuncts for the states educational
system, and the inability to reach the vast majority of its target audience. The
collection policy and mission statements require the museum to provide statewide
access of sufficient biological specimens for education and research. The current
museum has
Restaurant Demographic Analysis
Before we can even start a restaurant at all, we have to go for analyzation of the
demographic and psycho graphic of our location. And according to the toronto.ca
/wps/portal/contentonly the location we choose is mostly populated by Chinese,
the Koreans, Cantonese and others Asia, non Asia, immigrant and citizens. The
percentage of those in the neighborhood between the ages of 25 64 is 64.1%,
followed by young youth with 19.3%, followed by seniors with 10.5 %, leaving a
percentage of 6.1% to children. This is good for us because we know that 97% of
the area is a rental apartment and with fewer children in the area, most family will
not worry too much about spending foodoutside. The seniors who are mostly Asian
immigrant who will crave for their homeland foods and our restaurant is an ideal
place for them to come and dine and wine. (http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal

But thing will not always go smoothly especially in our industry. We know that there
will be ups and down depending on what time of the year it is; therefore when this
time comes we decided to start promotional items that will entice the customer into
our restaurant. For example, happy hours, Brunch, Holiday special, and discount.
When people are happy with our restaurant, they will surely come over. There are
also thing we can look up to in other to generate more revenue for our place. For
instance, the Chinese festival celebration. These celebrations like Azure dragon
festival, Shangsi, Qing Ming, Dragon Boat, Double seventh etc. our target market
will like to celebrate these festivals and will take their family members out on a
food outing, and our restaurant is just the perfect place to come to. Something that
will make them feel like they are celebrating it as a big nation just like back home.
That will increase our sales for the
The Revenant
Alejandro GonzГЎlez IГ±ГЎrritu recreates a long time true story of survival and
revenge in his newest film The Revenant. Leonardo DiCaprio plays an experienced
traveler and trapper Hugh Glass who is accompanied by the story s protagonist John
Fitzgerald portrayed by actor Tom Hardy. The time period of the filmis in the early
1820 s located in unmarked U.S. territory during the Louisiana Purchase era. The
film has recently picked up three Academy Awards for Best Director,
Cinematography, and Best Actor. Mr. DiCaprio has been praised continuously for
his past performances, but he achieves a whole new level of on screen suffering
for The Revenant. Many crew members complained and even quit on behalf of the
conditions, but no one endured what Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio endured.
The actor explains that he Can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the
most difficult things I ve ever had to do. Whether it s going in and out of frozen
rivers, or sleeping in animal carcasses, or what I ate on set. [I was] enduring

This film does both. A sense of emptiness fills the viewer but then is washed away
with fulfillment in the end. A fellow reviewer called it One of the best movies I ll
never watch again, this of course is due to the extreme graphic content, but this
aside, I know I would watch this movie for years to come. The movie contains
violence, and graphic content, and is mostly graphic throughout the whole two and a

Cinderella, By Charles Perrault
In Charles Perrault s Cinderella, there are many different ways he conveys
goodness being a magical thing in people s hearts. When reading it, it is easy to
point out how he thinks kindness is the most important thing it one s life. In Maria
Tatar s An Introduction to Fairy Tales, she talks about fairy tales being an escape to
children. She states that there is a world of imagination in fairy tales that takes reality
and makes it exciting and adventurous. She also mentions that fairy tales help
influence the way people look at certain things and the paths they choose. Cinderella,
by Charles Perrault, is a story that inspires all kinds of people to focus on inner
beauty in order to get their happily ever after. Cinderella, by Charles Perrault is a
piece of writing that seems to be an average fairy tale. The name Cinderella is a
name known throughout the world; it is known by a variation of people ranging
from kids to adults. We associate this name with the average fairy tale. When
looking at this particular story of Cinderella, it is clear that it is the story of the
house maiden who ends up living happily ever after. The main point of Cinderella is
that when someone is a good person and they live a life of kindness, good things
happen to them. For example, throughout the story Perrault hints to the idea of
Cinderella being beautiful and having a good heart, Cinderella, in spite of her mean
apparel, was a hundred times more handsome than her sisters, though
The Frontispice And Incipit Of The Gelasian Sacrament
The Frontispice and Incipit of the Gelasian Sacrament, is the art from the first two
pages of the Gelasian Sacrament. While it is impossible to know for certain, since
this piece was neither signed nor dated, it is widely accepted that this piece was
created by nuns in the nunnery at Chelles. The nunnery at Chelles is famous for
having cultivated the art of writing. 1 The story of the journey of this codex is
unknown. From the nunnery in France, this codex spent time in the library of Queen
Christina of Sweden, before heading to the Vatican Library. But other than these three
location, the whereabouts of this book through the century are unknown. What is
known is this codex was made for priest not bishops and was used in Roman churches
in the seventh century. 2 Also, it has not, however, reached us in its original form, but
with modifications and additions made by generation after generation. 3
The two pages are strikingly similar. They both use the same color scheme of red
outlines, with red, blue, green and yellow decorations. The figures used on both
pages are similar, crosses, birds, horses, fish, and felines. Also, the stylistic choice of
putting figures inside circles was reoccurring. In the Frontispice, the image on the
left, there is a decorative arch encasing a cross. It appears that the artist attempted to
make the image symmetrical, with the line of symmetry running vertically down the
middle of the page. There is only one definite difference between the

Power In Afghanistan
Originally Afghanistan was led by the Shah Monarchy elitism and the economy was
stable. Until the Soviets took over although not all the contributions to Afghanistan
were bad most did not help the circumstances. The instability of the political system
and society in general was caused by the medaling of the Russians and other
countries. When the Russians invaded and eliminated the people in power it caused
rebel groups to form. One of the rebel groups were the Taliban. Many people that
were in the government were assassinated by different groups. When the Taliban took
control of Afghanistanthey took the elite out of power and put themselves in that role
becoming the governing power. Problems that happen with instabilities within a

Islam is also used to acknowledge what is right and wrong. Although Islam is a
peaceful religion the Taliban used to justify its extreme behaviors. They did this
by killing people from other religions or religious sector they did not agree with.
Like the Hazara, which Hassan was a part of considered to be of lesser status. The
Taliban also believed that the only way to practice was if it was Pashtun. Since
Hassan was considered lower class he became on of Baba and Amir s servants.
Even though Hassan was technically Baba s child he never claimed him. Part of
this reason he was never claimed could be because of the difference in status.
Hazara cannot go against a Pashtun s word. This comes into play when Amir feels
guilty about not doing anything about Hassan s rape so instead on confronting him
or talking to relive his stress and guilt. Amir plants a watch underneath his pillow to
make it look like Hassan was stealing from them. Although in this case Amir did not
get what he wanted because Baba forgave Hassan for his supposed theft. It is not
until after Hassan dies and Amir saves Sohrab from the Taliban that his guilt

Texting and Driving In modern Society Technology is increasingly prevalent. With
82% of 16 year olds owning a cell phone the risks of use behind the wheel are
increasing monumentally. According to research, even using a hands free device to
talk does not completely reduce the risk of getting into an accident. According to the
Highway Safety Association people using a cell phone while driving are 23 times
more likely to get in an accident. Studies show that humans are only able to multitask
to a certain point and while behind the wheel the risks are just too high (Copeland).
The majority legislators understand the hazards of phone use in a car, but
continuously refuse to ban and create laws to prevent it. The statistics back up the
hazards of distracted driving yet the government refuses to prevent the danger.
However, this is not the only reason drivers are distracted. A few examples of
distraction could be anything from changing the song on the stereo, setting up the
GPS, or setting up the Bluetooth headset to answer calls. The Majority of Car
manufactures are putting high resolution big screens with the ability to navigate the
web, and an increasing amount of features. The demand for greater technology can
increase the risks of driving since they will be using the touch screens to navigate
through the system (Vance). Although most companies pride themselves with safety
they ignore the hazards of increasing technology
What Issues Prompted Frontier Hotel And Restaurant
Workers...
What issues prompted Frontier hotel and restaurant workers to take strike action?
There were a lot of issues that prompted employees at the Frontier hotel to take
striking as an action to be heard. When watching this documentary for the first
time I didn t realize how long these workers were on strike for. One word to
describe the owners of these hotels is savages . They started to fire individuals for
no apparent reason it seemed the owners wanted to cut back. There was one girl
that worked in the culinary department for eight years and she was let go. The
hotel also took away health insurance benefits, pension contributions for employees
trying to retire and the most important cutting employee wages for the hotel to save
money and for the owners to profit even more letting these employees work next to
nothing. A lot of workers said they felt their pride was being taken away also trying
to take care of their own family will be even more inflexible. The hotel took away
everything so these employees had no chose but to strike. What tactics (other than
picketing) did the union use to pressure the Elardi family into settling the contract?
Identify at least three. Some other tactics the union used other than picketing was
truly astonishing. These employees really wanted to make a point across all of
Nevada. One tactic that really helped these employees win their strike was getting
noticed across the state by walking thirty miles across the dessert everyday. They

Tertullian Just War Theory
Throughout this course we have gone over numerous different topics and issues that
all relate to the Bible. The topics range from Genesis and the different accounts of
creation to who founded the African Methodist Episcopal Church. A topic that seems
very intriguing is Augustine and Tertullian s theories on war and violence. This paper
will discuss the two main theories on violence in the Christian tradition. Throughout
history, Christians have had different perspectives on violence. Some of the accounts
are on the pacifist side, while others are on the side that violence is necessary in some
instances. The two leading authors on violence are Tertullian and Augustine.
Tertullian seems to base his facts more on the Bible, specifically Matthew s teachings.
These teachings based his thinking as to why a person should not commit violence
under any circumstances. Augustine bases his teachings off of Saint Thomas Aquinas
as well as accounts in the bible. These things helped him create what is known as the
Just WarTheory . In the end, one can see how Augustine s Just War Theory is a
much more viable option grounded in a Christian tradition which allows for one to
practice their faith, but not be pushed around by those looking to forcefully push one
away from God. Tertullian was a pacifist, which means he is completely against
violence and anything that involves violence, including war. He even disagrees with
a military simply for the fact that it involves
Mechanical Engineering And Its Purpose

2015Mechanical Engineering and Its Purpose in SocietyMechanical engineering may
seem like an abstract and unimportant concept to the average person, yet mechanical
engineering has been around since the beginnings of humanity. Mechanical
engineeringis everywhere and we see the results of it in our lives every day. Most
objects that we encounter, such as a pencil or a doorknob, have gone through some
form of mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering
that uses the generation and application of heat and mechanical power to produce,
fix, and design products. This benefits society and improves the lives numerous
amounts of people all over the world. Mechanical engineering is useful to society
through technology and inventions and without it society would be completely
different. Using basic fundamental principles of mechanical movements to create
technology and inventions is key to the process of mechanical engineering. Ever
since prehistoric times, objects have been mechanically engineered to benefit
mankind. This made life easier and more efficient as simple inventions went on to
create more complex ones. These inventions use the 5 basic mechanical movements
which are the lever, the wheel and axle, the pulley, the inclined plane and wedge, and
the screw. Archimedes, a famous Greek engineer, created a screw that
Analysis Of The Philosophical Views Of The Other

Assignment: Final Paper the Other

Professor Martin Gomez
In looking at the philosophical views of the Other presented by Emmanuel Levinas
we will consider whether we act strictly for the good of others without investing
any self interest in what we do or do we do what we desire most at the end of the
day; however, we will find many of our daily interactions including working, caring
for another and just basic interactions are all done in self interest not in the interest of
the Other. According to Rosenstand (2013) Levinas explains the Other as a term seen
in philosophy about a person who is different from oneself; it is when one is facing
something or someone that one is fundamentally unfamiliar with. (Rosenstand,
2013, p. 82) He goes onto explain that this stranger can be a person of a different
sex or race or even someone who has different experiences than oneself. Levinas sees
the bottom line of all human existence as the encounter with the Other. (Rosenstand,
2013, p. 513) When people meet people they will more often than not meet someone
who is different from them. They will be a different color. A different sex. A
different social class. It will be someone who has grown up in a different environment
than them. And instinct will set in and one will try to change the Other; they will
perceive that they are helping the Other but really they are helping themselves. One
person will
The Cause Of Macbeth s War
HOUSE OF DUNKELD Macbeth, King of Scotland, was brutally murdered in a
bloody civil war commanded by the late King Duncan I s son, Malcolm III, with the
support from the Thane of Fife and the Scottish nobles.
The battle took place in Dunsinane Hill when Malcolm III invaded the area and
brought with him an army he raised in England. The civil war was supported by
Scottish nobles, Earl of Northumbria, and Earl of Northumberland as the deceased
King Macbeth was greatly condemned for his paranoia and tyranny.
As Malcolm III and his army advanced towards the king s castle, the soldiers were
instructed to cut down tree limbs from Birnam Wood in order to disguise their
numbers. The army, shielded with boughs cut from Birnam Wood, successfully
Genotypes In Children
Phenotypes driven by DNA from passing of traits from parent to offspring. Before
children are born, they receive half of their traits from their mother and the other half
from their father. That is why the child may have their father s nose and their mother
s eye shape. Other traits could include eye color, hair color, hair texture, weight, and
skin color. Different combinations of traits may cause offspring to appear different
from their parents. However, the majority of traits inherited from parents will be the
same. There are other things that you do not inherit from parent inherited traits.
These are traits that from what the offspring learn or are caused by the environment.
Phenotypes is expressed in part through the processes of transcription and translation.

DNA based information into RNA information. RNA based information is then

Female Sexuality Desire in Chopin s The Storm Essays
Female Sexuality Desire in Chopin s The Storm In Kate Chopin s time traditional
patriarchal notions about women and sexuality deemed sexual passion a negligible,
even improper, aspect of women s lives. Yet Chopin boldly addresses a woman s
sexual desire in her short story The Storm . This story shockingly details a torrid
extramarital sexual encounter between Calixta and Alcee` in the midst of a raging
storm. While this story line could have been presented in a traditional light, perhaps
as a lesson about the evils of uninhibited female sexuality, Chopin maintains a non
judgmental stance by refraining from moralizing about the sanctity of marriage or
impropriety of Calixta s actions. In failing to condemn and even... Show more content

The brief description of the brewing storm and the close, humid heat emanating
from and surrounding Calixta establish an almost palpable sensuality early in the
story. This conceit of the storm continues throughout much of the story with the
storm s crescendo symbolizing a climax in Calixta and Alcee` s sexual encounter.
At first, the obvious desire between the pair is sublimated into a nervous tension,
and the effort to restrain their physical longing for the sake of social mores is
paramount. Calixta exclaims, If this keeps up, Dieu sait if the levees goin to stan it,
which is symbolically indicative of the growing force of their passion and the
weakening of their resistance before that passion. A blinding bolt of lightening
breaks the lovers nervous tension, much as it splits through the air and strikes the
chinaberry tree. This violent crash precipitates Calixta and Alcee` s first embrace
and kiss, and the affair that ensues vividly matches the progress of the raging storm.
The storm reaches a crescendo, which Calixta views as a delightful counterpart to
their passionate love making, for, they did not heed the crashing torrents, and the roar
of the elements made her laugh as she lay in his arms (284). To make the parallel
between the storm and Alcee and Calixta s affair particularly evident, Chopin
consistently uses this conceit until the end of the encounter, for the thunder
Importance Of The Human Genome Project
The Importance Of The Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project(HGP) provided valuable information that changed
biology and medicine. Beginning in the 1990 s a research project was created with
the intent of determining the sequence of nucleotide base pairs that made up human
DNA. The Collaboration was key to completing this project, it was an international
project that required, funding, certain technologies, and research methods. The
Human Genome project provided important information that benefited medical
science. This project helped scientist understand different genetic diseases that
plagued mankind and opened the doors to many other scientific findings. Although
the Human Genome Project was met with initial resistance it has proved to be
significant in many aspects of science. The Human Genome project was widely
anticipated, the possibility of understanding human disease, causes of disease, and
human evolution was at the forefront of science. In 1985 a project was formally
proposed with the goal of determining the complete nucleotide sequence of the human
genome. Although the proposal had the possibility to change science it was met with
much resistance. The main concern was privacy of genetic information, educating
health care professionals, and ethical issues involving the design of genetic research.
Finally, in 1990 under the direction of U.S. department of energy and the national
institutes of health the Human Genome Project was officially initiated in
The Most Vital Functions Of The Nervous System
The most vital functions of the nervous system is to provide information about the
occurrence or threat of injury. One of the ways this is done is in form of pain.
However, sometimes, established pain can go beyond its protective role, thus
becoming a disease in itself than just being a symptom. This condition is called
chronic pain. The injury or the precipitating event can be physical (like in case of
phantom limb pain or post surgical pain), infection (as with post herpetic neuralgia),
systemic disease (like with diabetic neuropathy), drug (chemotherapy induced
peripheral neuropathy) or can sometimes be unknown (trigeminal neuralgia, migraine,
cluster headache, etc.) Even today, the pathological processes involved in genesis,
establishment and continuation of such diseases are poorly understood. Eventually,
such painful conditions usually remain refractory to available treatments.
According to International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), globally, it has
been estimated that 1 in 5 adults suffer from pain and that another 1 in 10 adults are
diagnosed with chronic pain each year. Moreover, according to a recent (2014)
article in the Journal of Pain, chronic pain is the most prevalent and disabling
condition affecting at least 100 million Americans. It is also the most expensive
public health condition with annual cost to society exceeding that of combined costs
of diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. Then, we have set of diseases that follow
chronic pain. This
Evaluation Of Fungicides And Application Timing On
Control...
Introduction The blackleg fungus is a major disease of canola and can cause
significant losses. An experiment to evaluate fungicides effect on blackleg was
conducted by J.P. Damicone et. al. entitled Evaluation of fungicides and application
timing on control of black leg of winter canola, 2015 at Oklahoma State University.
This study involved evaluation of two fungicides, Proline and Approach, applied at
different times throughout the growing season to gauge their efficacy controlling
blackleg.
Blackleg
Black Leg of Canola Blackleg of canola is a disease that affects canola (Brassica
napus) and other Brassica spp. with the causal agent being a fungus, Leptosphaeria
maculans (anamorph= Phoma lingam). Canola is one of many cruciferous crops
that is attacked by blackleg disease and losses from the disease have been
documented for over a century with the disease occurring in every production area
around the world (History occurrence impact, pg. 1).
Symptoms for blackleg include lesions, necrosis, stem cankers, shriveled seeds,
premature ripening, and lodging. When seedlings first emerge they can be killed in
a manner similar to damping off, but if the seedlings develop past emergence,
lesions can develop on both the cotyledons and leaves with a grayish appearance
(History occurrence impact, pg. 1). As the crops get larger, stem lesions called
cankers develop and can restrict water flow causing premature ripening and shriveled
seeds (History occurrence impact, pg. 1). If
The War Of The Revolutionary War
The most fascinating subject to learn about in History is spies. With the ideas of
secret ink and leaving important documents at Dead Drops would be someone s
dream to live. That does not mean that every story of a spy ended up that way.
Several spies during the Revolutionary war were hanged if caught. Though, one major
traitor in the United Statesdid not get hanged. He escaped to England. The life of
spies is quite different then what people imagine. Even the founding fathers of the
United States of America played such a drastic role in spying. Like John Jay
considered the Father of Counter Intelligence . George Washington is known for
creating the most successful operatives. Overall, the interesting parts in regard to spy
is that of Sir Walsingham, the founding fathers, and that of Benedict Arnold, a traitor.
Sir Walsingham began the major influence of spying for the later generations in
England and Revolutionary America. He spied for Queen Elizabeth during her reign.
His major attributes were to find out who tried to threaten Elizabeth s life. Many
assassination attempts are set in action when she is queen. Under Willingham many
spy network in foreign countries will be established. Not only this, but many people
will have worked underneath him. Walsingham is a man that made sure Queen
Elizabeth s life is safe. Through his massive spying in the Babington Plot,
Walsingham uncovered a message a attempt to threaten Elizabeths life. The letter will

sensational experiences and impactful encounters, while others may contain
moments in life that resemble a nightmare. Luckily enough, during my first
eighteen years on this Earth, I ve been dealt a rather great hand. It by no means has
been perfect, but it s put me into a position today, where I can claim that I truly am
happy. The five cards that I chose for my life, included getting accepted to Curry
college, breaking my nose, tearing the labrum in my shoulder, having a great family,
and earning media credentials before becoming an adult. Not each one is exactly a
positive, but they have all impacted me in a significant way, and help form who Tyler
Milliken truly is.
Growing up and playing baseball is a part of my life I will cherish forever, but it did
result in me breaking my nose and being forced to deal with it s crookedness for the
rest of my life. It seems like most people always have at least one physical
characteristic that bothers them on a routine basis. Unfortunately, my nose is the
insecurity I ve been forced to constantly deal with since about fourth grade.
Surprisingly enough, I didn t break my nose in fourth grade, the entire incident had
happened a year prior. When they fixed my nose while at the hospital, I had never put
any thought into it maybe looking different or having some new characteristics.
What My Mother Doesn T Know Essay
What My Mother Doesn t Know by Sonya Jones was written in 2001.The book
consists of events that aren t out of the ordinary in a young freshman life, also it is
solely composed of armature poetry, almost as if it is diary entries. The main
character is Sophie who lives in Cambridge,Massachusetts. She is just entering high
school and going through all the typical stages such as becoming distant from her
mother and boys are always on her mind.As each poem is written it is enviable to
see the maturity that has taken over her.The story really connects with its audience
in the sense that when they were in their freshman year it was okay to be awkward
and fall in lovewith every guy you laid eyes on.It is simply a part of growing up,but
luckily she also shows that after she came

Types Of Hypertension And Secondary Hypertension
In the year 2000 it was estimated that about 25 percent of people worldwide had
hypertension and this number is expected to keep rising further increasing the risk
for millions in developing cardiovascular disease. There are two main types of
hypertension. Secondary hypertension is caused from an underlying disease in the
adrenal or renal systems or by use of certain medications. It is resolved when the
cause is treated or removed. Primary or essential hypertensionis the most common
type with the cause being unclear although the incidence is higher with age and
weight.

Although both of these readings are important after the age of 60 the systolic
reading is more significant due to the association with cardiovascular disease. Two to
three blood pressure readings will be taken at separate appointments before a
diagnosis of hypertension can be determined.
Although the causes of essential hypertension are unclear a number of factors have
been known to increase blood pressure. Changes either from genes, behavioral, or the
environment which disrupt the normal functions of the body may cause a rise in
blood pressure. Other factors that increase blood pressure are kidney fluid and salt
balances, the renin angiotensin aldosterone system, sympathetic nervous system
activity, and blood vessel structure and function (Bolivar, 2013). Since blood pressure
homeostasis is accomplished by multifactorial mechanisms if there is a change in one
of these mechanisms another attempts to correct this change in order to maintain a
normal blood pressure. When this system fails and blood pressure can no longer be
normalized by this method than essential hypertension results.
The kidneys regulate the body s salt balance by retaining sodium and water while
excreting potassium. Any imbalance in the kidneys function will expand blood
volumes causing blood pressure to rise. The renin angiotension aldosterone

Renzo Piano is a well known architect, best known for his phantasmagoric
architectural masterpiece, the Shard in London that constitutes a major landmark in

Kingdom, while being for a while Europe s tallest tower. It lost its title to the
Mercury City Tower in Moscow in 2012 which is Europe s tallest building.
As Renzo Piano said I don t believe it is possible to build a tall building in London by
extruding the same shape from bottom to top. It would be too small at the bottom
and too big at the top. Likewise, symbols are dangerous. Often tall buildings are
aggressive and arrogant symbols of power and ego, selfish and hermetic. The tower is

The architect and Mr. Sellar applied for planning permission. Southwark Council was
an important supporter of the skyscraper, which had been administered planning
permission at the end of March 2002. Nevertheless, the works for the Shard almost
ceased because of the fall of the Twin World Trade Towers, in New York. According
to Mr. Sellar the Shard will have refuges built into its core . Furthermore, when plans
for the Shard of Glass were first considered, environmentalists labeled the Shard as a
spike through the heart of the heritage of London.
Oppositions arose after the plans for the Shard passed through the Council and
conservation groups expressed their concerns about the changing skyline of London
and that the skyscraper would shadow over the Cathedral of St. Paul, the Tower of
London. Renzo Piano stated that St. Paul Cathedral is an extraordinary monument
and an intrinsic part of London s heritage. I believe that the new tower will not
disturb its stateliness. They are breathing the same air, sharing the same atmosphere;
they are nurtured at the same source. . It should be mentioned that St Paul s
Cathedral, which for hundreds of year was the tallest structure, and even today is
protected by laws which protect the sight lines to the cathedral, is a monument to the
glory of God, symbol of hope, strength and resilience of the city of London.
In the light of the above, in July 2002, the then Deputy Prime Minister John Leslie
What It Means To Be Proud Of Place In The United States
I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so
that his place will be proud of him. That is a quote from Abraham Lincoln and it is
a forgotten concept in our culture today. Too many people today feel that they are
entitled to something, and are asking, What is the country doing for me, instead of,
What am I doing for my country? . We have a responsibility to our country to obey
her laws, vote for her leaders, and do what is right, not according to the majority
populous, but what has been commanded to me by my God.
It s our responsibility to keep America s laws. What does this entail? As a Christian
trying to answer this question, I first look to God and His Word. The Apostle Paul
commands us in Romans 13:1, Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.
For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. This
means that we are to submit to our government because God has ordained it.
Submission has been tabooed in our culture. Culture teaches us from a young age
that we are not to submit but do what our heart tells us. I can not tell you how
dangerous this type of thinking is. Jeremiah 17:9 says, The heart is deceitful above
all things, and desperately wicked. Instead of following our own desires, we are to
be held accountable. We are not to simply acquiesce ... Show more content on

How do we do so? Everybody has a different definition than others, but the basics

Saul feared him and tried to kill him. God had already appointed David to become

The Process of Making Beer Essay
The Process of Making Beer
Malting Preparation
The dried grain kernels need to absorb moisture in the softening House so that the
barley can germinate. This process takes 50 hours. Throughout this time the barley is
aired and washed using pumps. Through the water separator, the barely dives as the
brewers like to say into the softening vat.

Round softening vats and water separation prepare the grain during the even and
slow insertion of the barley. (Picture 2/3).
How the Malt is prepared
In every beer, the most important ingredient is malt. Bottom fermenting beers uses
barley malt, while top fermenting beers allow the use of other malts. For example, in

Moisture, Temperature and the length of the drying process determine if light or
dark malt (and with it the ingredients for lighter and darker beer styles) will be made
and give malt its typical malt aroma.
Finished Malt for the Brewery
The finished brewing malt contains only 3 or 4% moisture and is now ready to be
stored. It is cleaned and separated from the germinating malt, dusted and polished and
then stored in silos that are well ventilated and protected from dust development. The
germination sets biological changes within the kernel into action: Enzymes are
activated or newly created. These developments are only interrupted by the kiln
drying. During the mash (the mixing of the ground malt with water) the enzymes as
desired become active again.
The malt is now ready for the brewing process. Production methods will differ from
brewery to brewery, as well as according to brewery equipment and beer types.
Athenian Brewery S.A uses its own production methods; however the main
processes will be similar. The description below applies to the production of a typical
lager beer in a brewery with a lauter tun installed.
Brewing Area
The first stage in the brewing process is the preparation of the wort. After the malt is
crushed to grist of suitable fineness, and preliminary treatment of the adjuncts takes
place to facilitate extraction, the malt and adjuncts are mixed with brewing water to
form a mash.

Lady Macbeth is an insidious and complex character. Throughout the course of the
novel, she manipulates her husband, Macbeth, and spurs him to commit his first
murder in order for him to ultimately achieve what she believes he deserves. Lady
Macbeth is shown to the audience as a loyal wife who wants the best for his
husband, but at the same time, she is portrayed as a malicious character from the
very beginning of the play. The line between an evil human being, and a scheming

Unlike the witches, Lady Macbeth shows signs of vulnerability, and becomes
wracked with guilt. This is evident in her sleepwalking scene, when she says Out
damned spot! Out, I say! (VI, 1, 31) She, at that point in time, was haunted by the
sight of blood on her hands, and was convinced the blood was still there, showing
signs of madness as she becomes mentally unhinged. Lady Macbeth s recollection
of Macbeth s words after Duncan was murdered also haunted and festered within
her as shown when she starts to echo Macbeth s statements and fears, when she
said To bed, to bed: there s knocking at the gate! (VI, 1, 59) When Lady Macbeth is
sleepwalking and imagines that she is in hell, as shown by her statement Hell is
murky, (VI, 1, 32) she does not appear on stage again, and dies offstage. The two
most likely scenarios for her death would be suicide, or an act involving the doctor
and/or the gentlewoman, as they were the only people that witnessed the truth about
the murders. If suicide was the cause of Lady Macbeth s death, as is likely, an even
deeper level of guilt is shown and this emotional trauma felt by Lady Macbeth is not
felt by the witches. These signs of weakness are contrary to the connection she had
with the evil spirits in her evocation
A Study On Premarital Cohabitation
Premarital Cohabitation
In the late 1980s, only 44% of women cohabited before their first marriage. 67% of
women have cohabited before their first marriage since 2000 (Manning Cohen, 2012).
Premarital cohabitation has become the majority experience in the United States
(Tach Halpern Meekin, 2009; Teachman, 2003). Although cohabitationhas become
the majority experience, premarital cohabitation is still associated with poorer marital
communication quality, lower marital satisfaction, higher levels of domestic
violence, and greater probability of divorce in U.S. samples (Cohan Kleinbaum,
2002; Stanley, Rhoades, Markman, 2006). In a study completed by Cohan
Kleinbaum (2002), researchers found that the couples who did not premarital
cohabitate had more positive problem solving skills and more positive help seeking
methods than couples who did cohabitate before marriage. Despite the negative
consequences, there are still many reasons young couples are choosing to cohabitate.
Researchers have found that young couples cohabitate before marriage in order to
test their relationship and attempt to divorce proof their marriages (Manning Cohen,
2012). Oppenheimer (1988) argued facilitates the kind of interaction that increases
the knowledge of oneself and of a potential marriage partner and of the kind of
mutual adaptations that are so essential to a stable relationship (p. 583) (Manning
Cohen, 2012). The sharing of living expenses was ranked second among important

When I saw my brothers and mom boarding the plane, it felt to me as if a piece of
my heart was leaving with them, in the same plane. However, in the midst of this
feeling, there was also some comprehension because I knew that there was no other
option to prevent this separation. I saw the three of them walking heading to the
plane with destination to Colorado; far, very far away from me and the rest of my
family. During their walk to the plane, each one of those steps they gave were like
laughs of joy that were leaving out with the rhythm of their steps. So, step after step
were just as less and less joy, until I could not see my mom and brothers anymore
and that was when I let my sadness came out accompanied with tears. That moment
completely changed the emotion with which I expected Christmas. It was as if the
girl who waited impatiently for Christmas had disappeared along with the laughter of
joy that disappeared following the rhythm of the footsteps of my mom and brothers
walking to board the plane.
Christmas evening! Another lesson that this holiday taught me was to value more

I say this because in Christmas day I decided to stay with my grandma, aunts,

this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along (Eleanor Roosevelt). It takes
courage to live a life that one truly wants to live. One must be brave and strong

definition of courage is, mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand
danger, fear, or difficulty. Some synonyms of this word include bravery, daring and

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 has helped in the transition to bring it to a state of
equilibrium. However this created a significant amount of hostility in the
workplace. The friends of the white males who were passed over for position
began to despise the minority or woman who was hired. The little things that could
legally be done in retaliation were done. The weapons used to discourage the
instigators of change were things like additional work forcing the new employee
to work nights and weekends or being looked over for public praise. Over time, the
petty knee jerk reactions began to dissipate. However the distain for the invaders
had not gone away it has only changed it outward appearance. The use of education
verses experience has created a legal loophole allowing companies to hire who they
want and reject other qualified employee who simply have not been given the
opportunity to prove themselves.
In an effort to dissolve public perceptions of discrimination token employees have
been hired and put in positions of high visibility. As long as the person conforms to
the public image which has been ingrained on the USA s public psyche as being the
correct way of being, they are kept on. If they step out of line they, publicly

As we approach the millennium, the overall framework of the workforce has been
steadily flourishing. In this era, several individuals would like to think that the
promotional and also hiring processes in the workplace have become fair and also

glass ceilingis a subtle framework that most organizations and employers have
utilized in legally discriminating particular groups of people. Although this action is

advancing to higher positions in their careers due to the concept of the glass ceiling
(Horn, and Schaffner, 2003).
Also, several historical customs have continued to hinder the success of female
individuals in various societies. Due to these customs, the glass ceiling has been
created above females in their place of work. This is a serious impediment that exists
within businesses that have prevented highly qualified and learned women and
people from minority groups from reaching their potential in leadership positions in
various corporations.

Research Paper On Magnets
Levitating is not only for magicians, but for magnets too. Scientist have been using
magnetism to create levitation for years. Recently, they have advanced their
technology and expanded their knowledge about magnetism and levitation and
conformed them to be used in everyday life. Magnetic levitation can be broken down
into so many different topics such as magnetism and levitation, but there is a much
deeper meaning to magnetic levitation. A magnetis an object that has a magnetic field.
It can attract heavy objects such as iron and steel. A magnet can be in many shapes
and sizes. The word magnet came from the elderly Cretan shepherd, Magnes. He
supposedly found a rock that had a strong magnetic force. In the rock was large
amounts of lodestone. The most common magnet used today is the bar magnet. They

Magnetic levitation uses the natural repelling nature of the poles that are of the same
kind to control levitation. This can come in many different forms and all made
differently. One way is permanent magnets, which is the easiest of all the forms
because it does not require any outside material to make the levitation, but it is not
very controllable. Magnetism is the main component in the levitation act. Magnetism
has been around ever since Earth was created. It is the force that is generated by the
motion of electrons within its atoms. Earth spins and has gravity because of
magnetism. It is created within the processes inside of earth, the core. Earths core is
made of iron and ore that is constantly in a spinning motion which forms a pure
magnetic force. Magnetism also creates north and south poles that the earth spins.
The magnetism that earth gives off is called earths magnetic
The s Confessions By Augustine Dismisses The Aeneid
In the first book of his Confessions, Augustine dismisses the Aeneid, describing it
merely as depicting the wanderings of some legendary fellow named Aeneas (Conf.
1.20). However, this is not the only thing that he dismisses throughout the text.
Augustine also rejects other culturally significant texts and the work of both himself
and others in his life. While he does admit there are positive lessons to learn from
each of these pursuits, Augustine argues the only texts or professions that matter are
those that bring an individual closer to God, specifically by mentioning Him and His
teachings. Throughout Confessions, Augustine, in retrospect, rejects many of the
texts he came across in his life. He first exhibits this when he describes how wrong it
was to have reacted emotionally to the Aeneid. He wept over Dido, who died pursuing
her ultimate end with a sword (Conf. 1.21), while at the same time he failed to
realize he was dying by [his] alienation from [God] (Conf. 1.20). Here Augustine
laments the fact he wept over Dido s death while at the same time worsened his
own condition by ignoring God and his own sinfulness. He is highly critical of
himself in the way he approached the Aeneid as a child, describing himself as having
abandoned [God] to pursue the lowest things of [God s] creation (Conf. 1.21).
Because the Aeneid leads Augustine further away from God it cannot have any
significance in one s life. The Aeneid is not the only text Augustine disregards in

the name around (Dellilo 17). The next morning Jack takes a trip to the grocery
store to buy food and surround himself with familiar products. Jacks behavior of
consuming after feeling a loss of identity is a known act in society today.
According to Todd, the empty, unhappy consumers have no choice but to consume
more products with the hopes of finding fulfillment (48). Jack spends time at the
supermarket multiple times in a week searching for items and for his sense of self.
It is known that buyers have the intention of finding products that have specific
meanings towards their identity. Consumption of goods such as food with brand
named colored labels gives Jack s life a sense of purpose and makes him feel as

Gun Ownership Pros And Cons
Carrying or owning a gun has a lot of pros along with a lot of cons. Why some see
the necessity of owning a gun for reasoning from hunting game to house security, I
personally do not have a true reason to own one. Owning a gun has much more
responsibility than I care to have by spending a fair amount of money and time for
an item that has little to no use for me and would not make me safe. The legality of
owning a gunfar exceeds the mental health of the owner, few things non gun
owners know and what all gun owners should know. A lot of gun owners will say
that non gun owners have little say as to why one should not own guns, well I can
say that gun owning and sales can go far greater than a few old white men at
Cabela s talking about the how the AR can have a swapped .223 barrel to a .556
barrel and how the overload of attachments can put on the gun with rails. When
writing this originally I thought to research a tad to fully understand guns and the
legality of them, until I came across how some states require one to have the firearm
locked up in one s house in case little kids go wondering around the house and
happen to stumbles across a firearm and accidently fires it because the horrid gun
owner did not just leave the gun out but also had a clip ready. As I continued my
research on locking up guns, I saw some states and insurance companies require one
to own a certified gun safe in order to own x amount of guns. This struck me,
personally I m a big safe owner. I have
Tornado Vs Ef4 Tornado
I have learned a lot of different facts about tornadoes, but to better understand a
tornado I needed to know how they are measured. That s when I learned here in the
USA (and Canada) tornadoes are classified by strength and estimated wind speed,
according to the Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF Scale), which assigns a rating of
between EF0 and EF5. After carefully reviewing the EF Scale and getting a better
understanding as to the differences between an EFO EF5 tornadoes, it seems to me
any type of tornadocan leave deadly damage in its path. Although the largest
tornadoes have the reputation for destroying entire cities in just minutes, smaller
scaled tornadoes can be deadly as well. So does this mean that tornadoes are more
deadly when people are
Nanotechnology For Enhanced Solar Conversion
Egbo Kingsley O. PhD in Nanostructures for Enhanced Solar Conversion Research
Proposal Abstract The possibilities of employing a nanoscale metal topography that
will employ surface plasmon excitation phenomena towards improving the light
absorption efficiency of organic solar cells will be investigated. This goal is
achievable by analytically designing and producing optically active nanostructures
which are used to excite surface plasmons at the wavelengths range dictated by the
sun in order to support the confinement of light beyond the diffraction limit, thus
leading to high weighted enhancements over a wider range of the solar spectrum.
This can be achieved by employing nanostructured materials with unique properties
tailored for the materials characteristics of II VI nanorod systems across the solar
spectrum capable of creating significant enhancements while preventing unwanted
thermal losses. Also external quantum efficiency measurements on the nanostructured
cells will be made, this is expected to demonstrate a substantial photon absorption
enhancement across the solar spectrum. Finally, key insights into light absorption and
trapping mechanisms in these plasmon enhanced cells through a combination of three
dimensional finite difference time domain simulations, optical absorption, and
external quantum efficiency measurements will be obtained Introduction The
increasing population of the world is making demands on the availability of energy
supply and research has
Catcher In The Rye First Person Perspective
The use of the first person perspective allows the reader to explore the inner
workings of a character, more so than another other type of perspective, even
allowing them to connect with the character on a more personal level since they are
not separated from their actions and thoughts by a removed narrator. In Catcher in the
Rye, by J.D. Salinger, Salinger narrates the story through the first person by the main
characterHolden Caulfield. The use of first person perspective is critical in the
progression of the novel as most of the conflict is derived from Holden s
psychological struggles. The use of first person perspective allows the reader to see
Holden s metal instability that that people he interacts with might not see. However,
The Threats Of South Korean Interests Essay
What are the greatest threats to South Korea in the early 21st century, and how can
they be addressed? This paper aims to address such questions through identifying the
three main threats to South Korean interests, proposing solutions to protect those
interests, and evaluating the effect of those solutions on the other identified interests
and threats. The state s main interests lie within bolstering its education system,
reforming the economy, and establishing greater military capabilities. Each interest
has its own corresponding threat: widespread decline in personal health from
performing under the current educational system paired with associated social stress,
competing with economic powerhouses in the region, and increased regional
aggression. For contextual purposes, this paper will be organized into five main
sections. The first section will present relevant historical context for South Korea. The
following section will cover the interest/threat pairs, with subsections for each pair.
The third section will more closely examine national security as the interest of
greatest importance and propose a solution to address the regional threat to South
Korea s stability. The fourth section will evaluate the effects of the proposed solution
on the other interests to suggest protocol to prevent negative effects, followed by a
section for final conclusions.

A simple intranet consists of an internal email system and perhaps a message board
service. More sophisticated intranets include Web sites and databases containing
company news, forms, and personnel information. Besides email and groupware
applications, an intranet generally incorporates internal Web sites, documents, and or
databases. The business value of intranet solutions is generally accepted in larger
corporations, but their worth has proven very difficult to quantify in terms of time
saved or return on investment.
An extranet is a computer network that allows controlled access from the outside
for specific business or educational purposes. Typically a company extranet is used
for people to connect to the company to conduct any number of tasks behind a
password protected area. A common application of an extranet is a partner area
where partners and resellers can download sales resources such as graphics and
content to aid in the sales process. Sometimes referred to as a portal, an extranet can
also be used to service clients who need support for products and services purchased
from the organization. An enterprise level extranet application can be built upon most
technology available today, including dot net, asp, php, html, and other systems.
Extranets are extensions to, or segments of, private intranet networks that have been
built in many corporations for information sharing and ecommerce. Most extranets
use the Internet as the entry point for
Similarities Between Hitchcock And Bergman
1. Hitchcock introduced the two principles characters at the very beginning of the
movie, which took place at Ingrid Bergman s house and used some special angels
and. Bergman was serving and greeting with guests of the party in her house. The
whole scene of Bergman social with guests was shot with the back of Carey Grant
taking up the left screen. As Bergman walking around and having conversation with
her guests, the camera followed her, I believe Hitchcock used the technique of
indirect subjective. The camera moves as Bergman moves and having bright light
hitting on her face would have the audience to pay attention to what she is saying and
also brings out the character of Bergman. This technique successfully shown the

The film has the tone of romantic and mystery at the same time. The first part of
the film shows the sweet relationship of Grant and Bergman. As we can see in the
scene of the hotel room, much sweet kissing and whispering in the ears. The
camera has used a very close angel and following them around, much like we are
looking at a couple s private. Mystery start when the scientist in Alex house acting
weird around the dinner table, the music and dark shot provide a creepiness and left
the audience to wonder what is the deal here at Alex house and we care for the
safety of Bergman. The film ends with the rescue for Bergman which finish the
romantic struggle through out the film. I think the most remarkable thing of this film
is when the friends of Alex ask him to come back to the house and have something to
ask him. This left the audience mind to imagine what is going to happen to Alex and
that could be very

Discuss the different kinds of humour in the play. Is it effective today? What is its
purpose?
Much ado about nothing is a comedy written by William Shakespeare.
There are many kinds of humour in the play. The first kind of humour we come
across is the skirmishes of wit between Beatrice and Benedick.
Beatrice and Benedick are both sarcastic people and incidentally are sarcastic about
each other. Sarcasm is a very good kind of humour, which is still effective to this
day. Many people understand sarcasm and it s a good way of putting a point across.
The main purpose of sarcasm is probably mockery. Sarcasm is usually used when
you say something that you don t mean literally, the point of this particular sarcasm is
to tell the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this quote
Dogberry is talking about the watch talking and not paying attention to their duty and
so here he means to say intolerable. Again he says
you, constable, are to present the princes own person this is funny again as he
misses out a key part of the word in which he is meaning to say represent. This
humour with Dogberry continues constantly through the play. It is still effective
today because we have an understanding of what he means to say and so it comes
across as funny where as in Shakespeare s time it may not as been as funny as many
people would have been poorly educated and so wouldn t perhaps understand. The
main purpose of this is just basically adding a bit of extra humour to the play.
The final kind of humour in the play is probably deceit. This is where towards the
end of the play Beatrice and Benedick are fooled by their friends into believing that
they both love each other. Margaret and
Hero leave notes for Beatrice pretending them to be from Benedick telling Beatrice
how much he loves her. Whereas Don Pedro and Claudio do the same for Benedick.
They also leave notes for them both to meet up at the same time. Both Beatrice and
Benedick start to believe it and change their views on each other. This is funny to the
audience as they get to see how both Beatrice and Benedick ponder about these love
letters they have
The Evolution of Digital Film
In order for digital film to exist like it does today it had to evolve from something.
Digital film evolved from Film or celluloid film as it is originally more recognized. I
have a few questions that I wish to cover early on and continue to develop as time
goes on. What is digital Cinema and what are the advantages and or disadvantages of
it over film. What is film celluloid and where did it originate from ? Why did digital
film start ? finally what is next for digital film is there more to come or will it
transition to something else ?.
Firstly celluloid film is a thin sheet of celluloid, created from nitrocellulose and
camphor. Celluloid can be traced back to as far as 1856 to an English man called
Alexander Parkes. Parkes has been found to be the first person who was granted
the first patent which described a plastic material which he called Parkesine . (1)
However it wasn t actually Parkes that patented celluloid. John Wesley Hyatt an
inventor and his brother Isaiah who actually patented their material as celluloid.
So celluloid originated from New Jersey in the United States. Celluloid was
actually created to become a replacement for the use of ivory in many products.
However is made its way into film industry later on. This was primarily down to
the work of John H. Stevens. John H. Stevens was a chemist at the Celluloid
Manufacturing Company . (1) He discovered that a material know as amyl acetate
was a solvent for diluting celluloid (1) This discovery
We Must Spend More Time Outside
Story Name
Clouds loomed overhead as he ran through the forest. Though odd branches and stray
roots hit him and knocked him over, he did not stop for even a second, not even to
catch his breath. Lightning crackled down, like a destructive shot of a giant cannon,
and hit a nearby tree. Thunder boomed overhead, a timely reminder of his mortality.
Though he may outrun his mortal pursuers, he would never flee from the elements.
As he ran, he realised he had been encircled. He would meet a certain death soon...

He first propped his leg in a small but not too small gap, then he reached out with his
hand and grabbed the edge of the top of the bright yellow tunnel. He groaned and

what seemed like an eternity of groaning, he lay on top of the tunnel and rested for a

It seemed like a long way off the ground to the boy, but he was not afraid of heights
and did not feel dizzy at the sight. He carefully turned his body toward the rest of
the playground and saw a few older kids shouting and laughing. He craned his head
toward the right and saw his parents, chatting with another couple. The boy rotated
his head upward and saw the bright sunny day. The clouds were a dreamy,
translucent white. The clouds formed into shapes as the imagination of the boy
raced on. A bird, no, it was a plus sign or even a tower.
The tower shaped cloud reminded the boy of his goal. To climbthe tower. He slowly
stood up and for a few moments, wobbled and lurched like he was about to fall. He
could hear his parents worried calls and then relief. His hand had grabbed the side of
the roof of the tower.
Be careful! That was his my dad.
After the shock of nearly falling wore off, the small boy with black hair decided to
start the second part of the excruciating climb. He placed his foot into a gap and then
hoisted himself upwards. His slim arms
Evolution Scientific Theory
What is a theory in science?
A scientific theory is an explanation of an aspect of the world, based on facts that
have been frequently confirmed through observation and experiment or is often just
speculations. Is evolution just a theory? Evolution is considered a valid scientific
theory as it cannot be expressed in a concise mathematical equation so it is referred
to as a theory, which does not make it more accurate than a law. Natural selection,
comparative embryology, comparative anatomy, DNA and scientific contributions all
support the theory of evolution.
Natural selection
Natural selection is a process in nature by which organisms are better adapted to their
environment tend survive and reproduce more likely than those who are not fit for
their environment. For example, peppered moth used to be a light colour with black
spots but when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, embryos of many animals, from fish to humans each show
similarities, which suggest a common ancestor. In humans, it is obvious that
embryos begin to develop what would have formed into gills that our ancestors
had. Embryos also develop a tail, which by the time they are born it is gone which
shows that ancestors were born with tails but we have evolved to no longer be born
with a tail. Comparative embryology also shows that many different life forms
experience similar stages of development, which points to common origins.
Comparative anatomy is the study of similarities and differences in the anatomy of
different species. It is closely related to evolutionary biology and phylogeny
(evolution of species). Comparative anatomy has served evidence for evolution,
which indicates various organisms share a common ancestor. Comparative anatomy
is the first line of reasoning in determining the connection of
Breaking Bad Stereotypes
Breaking Bad to many Hollywood movies because Season One represents almost
all of the Latino males that are gang members and drug dealers. There is a heavy
stereotype that only male Latinos are involved in gangs and drugs since Breaking
Bad has no other characters that are Latino outside. Crazy 8 and Tuco, two of the
main antagonists, are both Latino drug dealers. Both men come off as extremely
dangerous and violent. Crazy 8 has a desire to kill White and Pinkman and Tuco
was shown beating up Pinkman. Breaking Bad also shows their aggression through
their words. For example, Tuco says, I beat the piss out of your little mule boy to
White showing him as violent. The Drug Enforcement Administration also uses the
words some Mexican super lab which is stereotyping that there are many Latinos
involved in drug related activities (Crazy Handful of Nothin , 2008).... Show more

This show has been humble in its use of transmedia and offers an interesting contrast
compared to other television programs. Breaking Bad s primary focus is on
character. According to Jason Mittell, The use of character based transmedia makes
sense given Breaking Bad s genre and narrative strategies: there is no underlying
mythology or complex mystery to parse...transmedia extensions offer virtually no
narrative events that seem particularly relevant to the story as a whole (2015, para.
43). The main focus in this show is entirely on the transformation of the characters;
therefore, the transmedia works well with the narrative span and
Robert Frost 3 Poem Comparison Essay
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , Birches , and The Road Not Taken
Robert Frost was an American poet that first became known after publishing a book
in England. He soon came to be one of the best known and loved American poets
ever. He often wrote of the outdoors and the three poems that I will compare are of
that outdoors type.
There are several likenesses and differences in these poems. They each have their
own meaning; each represent a separate thing and each tell a different story.
However, they are all indicative of Frost s love of the outdoors, his true enjoyment
of nature and his wistfulness at growing old. He seems to look back at youth with a
sad longing.
Each of these three poems are alike in that they are all about ... Show more content on

He talks of when he was a swinger of birches and how he dreams of being one again.
He knows that this is not a reality for him.
Frost also uses the trees in this poem to represent a way to get away from the cares
and trials of life on Earth. He talks of getting away and coming back to start over as
if climbing towards heaven . He desires to be free from it all, but then he says that
he is afraid that the fates might misunderstand and take him away to never return.
This is like most of us today. We want to go to Heaven, but we don t want to die to
get there.
In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , Frost describes a thick patch of woods
that are a long way from anything. He does not go into great detail describing
them, leaving that to the reader s imagination. He merely describes them as lovely,
dark and deep. This lack of detail is to help us focus not so much on all the things
that are there, as the things that aren t. He mentions that the horse must be thinking
that this is strange to stop here, with no barn near. The only thing that is nearby is
nature. The lake is frozen and the trees and ground are covered with snow. During
a snowstorm, sound does not travel very well. It is very muddled and muted. The
only sounds that are mentioned in the poem are the bells on the horse s harness and
the wind. So, the rider is stopping to smell the roses. He is taking a break from the
world around
Gilgamesh Flood Vs Biblical Flood
Global floods have been a shared part of human culture and religion for thousands
of years. A majority of the global flood stories share the same basic framework
which consists of a hero, a means of salvation, and a blessing. The two most popular
flood accounts are the Biblical flood of Noah and the Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh.
. These two ancient flood accounts share various topics and ideas throughout both
storylines such as the reason for the flood, a warning that the flood will happen, the
use of birds, blessings from a god, and an offering given. However, neither Christian
scholars nor secular scholars can determine if the Biblical flood or the Epic of
Gilgamesh share a common link. The discovery of the Epic of Gilgamesh occurred...

Yahweh that there was going to be a massive flood to destroy all life. He was given

cubits and six decks (Genesis 6:15). Noah was also instructed to bring is family
and one or seven pairs of each animal in this warming (Genesis 6:19). Whereas,
Utnapishtim was warned in a more mystical way. He was given a dream that
described a great flood that was to extinguish all living creatures, and was given
instructions on how and what size the boat needed to be. He was also told in his
warning that he need to bring his family, seed of all living creatures, and skilled

  • 1. Essay On Homelessness In America Writing an essay on the topic of homelessness in America is undeniably challenging, as it requires navigating through complex social issues, understanding the multifaceted causes and effects of homelessness, and proposing viable solutions. The subject itself is sensitive and calls for a balanced approach that combines empathy with critical analysis. Researching the extent of homelessness, its root causes, and the impact on individuals and communities demands a deep dive into various sources, including academic studies, government reports, and firsthand accounts. The writer must grapple with statistics, legislative frameworks, and the often heartbreaking stories of those experiencing homelessness. Crafting a coherent and compelling narrative involves the delicate task of presenting the harsh realities of homelessness while avoiding stereotypes and oversimplifications. Striking the right tone is crucial to evoke empathy and understanding without sensationalizing or patronizing the individuals facing homelessness. The essay should also explore the societal factors that contribute to homelessness, such as economic inequality, mental health issues, and systemic issues within the housing market. Addressing potential solutions requires a thoughtful examination of public policies, community initiatives, and the role of individuals in making a positive impact. In addition to the intellectual challenges, emotional resilience is essential when delving into a topic that involves human suffering and societal neglect. Writers must remain objective while acknowledging the human stories behind the statistics. In conclusion, writing an essay on homelessness in America is a formidable task that demands a combination of research skills, empathy, and the ability to critically analyze complex social issues. • 2. Occupational Safety And Health Act The Occupational Safety and Health Act passed in 1970. This act signals an important moment in occupational safety and health. Prior to 1970, the occupational safety and health were unsatisfactory. In fact, many accidents occurred in the workplace because of chemicals, dusts, and dangerous machines. There were many hazards in the workplace that contributed to terrible injuries and fatalities. Furthermore, in 1970 an estimated 14,000 workers were killed on the job. After the Occupational Safety and HealthAct passed, the number of injuries have declined. Previously, businesses were not concerned about hazards in the workplace The Occupational Safety and Health Act is an important topic to address because it led the way for occupational safety and health. I choose to research this law in a greater depth because I found it interesting how this law changed how businesses prepare to prevent occupational health and safety hazards. There were minimal efforts to ensure workplace health and safety. When people were injured or died, they were easily replaced. In fact, it was cheaper to replace a worker than to actual implement safety measures. Furthermore, the tort law did not help the survivors of dead workers or injured employees. Over the years, there were minimal improvements. Eventually labor unions formed and public anger about poor workplace safety grew which led to a reduction in employee worker accidents for some time. After World War II, people were concerned about winning

The museum was established by Frank Pickel, a professor of natural science at the Florida Agricultural College in Lake City, and was dedicated to understanding, preserving, and interpreting biological diversity and cultural heritage. The state of Florida formally assumed ownership of the museum in 1917 and established it as part of the state university system. The purpose of the museum is set by Florida State Statue 1004.56 and requires the museum to collect and maintain a depository of biological, archaeological, and ethnographic specimens and materials in sufficient numbers and quantities to provide within the state and region a base for research on the variety, evolution, and conservation of wild species; the composition, distribution, importance, and functioning of natural ecosystems; and the distribution of prehistoric and historic archaeological sites and an understanding of the aboriginal and early European cultures that occupied them. The major weaknesses of the museum are in the absences of interactive educational displays, adjuncts for the states educational system, and the inability to reach the vast majority of its target audience. The collection policy and mission statements require the museum to provide statewide access of sufficient biological specimens for education and research. The current museum has

While it is impossible to know for certain, since this piece was neither signed nor dated, it is widely accepted that this piece was created by nuns in the nunnery at Chelles. The nunnery at Chelles is famous for having cultivated the art of writing. 1 The story of the journey of this codex is unknown. From the nunnery in France, this codex spent time in the library of Queen Christina of Sweden, before heading to the Vatican Library. But other than these three location, the whereabouts of this book through the century are unknown. What is known is this codex was made for priest not bishops and was used in Roman churches in the seventh century. 2 Also, it has not, however, reached us in its original form, but with modifications and additions made by generation after generation. 3 The two pages are strikingly similar. They both use the same color scheme of red outlines, with red, blue, green and yellow decorations. The figures used on both pages are similar, crosses, birds, horses, fish, and felines. Also, the stylistic choice of putting figures inside circles was reoccurring. In the Frontispice, the image on the left, there is a decorative arch encasing a cross. It appears that the artist attempted to make the image symmetrical, with the line of symmetry running vertically down the middle of the page. There is only one definite difference between the

The Taliban also believed that the only way to practice was if it was Pashtun. Since Hassan was considered lower class he became on of Baba and Amir s servants. Even though Hassan was technically Baba s child he never claimed him. Part of this reason he was never claimed could be because of the difference in status. Hazara cannot go against a Pashtun s word. This comes into play when Amir feels guilty about not doing anything about Hassan s rape so instead on confronting him or talking to relive his stress and guilt. Amir plants a watch underneath his pillow to make it look like Hassan was stealing from them. Although in this case Amir did not get what he wanted because Baba forgave Hassan for his supposed theft. It is not until after Hassan dies and Amir saves Sohrab from the Taliban that his guilt
  • 10. Texting And Driving By Modern Society Ed Bouchard Mrs. Hagburg English III May 12, 2014 Texting and Driving In modern Society Technology is increasingly prevalent. With 82% of 16 year olds owning a cell phone the risks of use behind the wheel are increasing monumentally. According to research, even using a hands free device to talk does not completely reduce the risk of getting into an accident. According to the Highway Safety Association people using a cell phone while driving are 23 times more likely to get in an accident. Studies show that humans are only able to multitask to a certain point and while behind the wheel the risks are just too high (Copeland). The majority legislators understand the hazards of phone use in a car, but continuously refuse to ban and create laws to prevent it. The statistics back up the hazards of distracted driving yet the government refuses to prevent the danger. However, this is not the only reason drivers are distracted. A few examples of distraction could be anything from changing the song on the stereo, setting up the GPS, or setting up the Bluetooth headset to answer calls. The Majority of Car manufactures are putting high resolution big screens with the ability to navigate the web, and an increasing amount of features. The demand for greater technology can increase the risks of driving since they will be using the touch screens to navigate through the system (Vance). Although most companies pride themselves with safety they ignore the hazards of increasing technology
  • 11. What Issues Prompted Frontier Hotel And Restaurant Workers... What issues prompted Frontier hotel and restaurant workers to take strike action? There were a lot of issues that prompted employees at the Frontier hotel to take striking as an action to be heard. When watching this documentary for the first time I didn t realize how long these workers were on strike for. One word to describe the owners of these hotels is savages . They started to fire individuals for no apparent reason it seemed the owners wanted to cut back. There was one girl that worked in the culinary department for eight years and she was let go. The hotel also took away health insurance benefits, pension contributions for employees trying to retire and the most important cutting employee wages for the hotel to save money and for the owners to profit even more letting these employees work next to nothing. A lot of workers said they felt their pride was being taken away also trying to take care of their own family will be even more inflexible. The hotel took away everything so these employees had no chose but to strike. What tactics (other than picketing) did the union use to pressure the Elardi family into settling the contract? Identify at least three. Some other tactics the union used other than picketing was truly astonishing. These employees really wanted to make a point across all of Nevada. One tactic that really helped these employees win their strike was getting noticed across the state by walking thirty miles across the dessert everyday. They

  • 14. Tertullian Just War Theory Throughout this course we have gone over numerous different topics and issues that all relate to the Bible. The topics range from Genesis and the different accounts of creation to who founded the African Methodist Episcopal Church. A topic that seems very intriguing is Augustine and Tertullian s theories on war and violence. This paper will discuss the two main theories on violence in the Christian tradition. Throughout history, Christians have had different perspectives on violence. Some of the accounts are on the pacifist side, while others are on the side that violence is necessary in some instances. The two leading authors on violence are Tertullian and Augustine. Tertullian seems to base his facts more on the Bible, specifically Matthew s teachings. These teachings based his thinking as to why a person should not commit violence under any circumstances. Augustine bases his teachings off of Saint Thomas Aquinas as well as accounts in the bible. These things helped him create what is known as the Just WarTheory . In the end, one can see how Augustine s Just War Theory is a much more viable option grounded in a Christian tradition which allows for one to practice their faith, but not be pushed around by those looking to forcefully push one away from God. Tertullian was a pacifist, which means he is completely against violence and anything that involves violence, including war. He even disagrees with a military simply for the fact that it involves

Mechanical Engineering And Its Purpose Kwame Cherukuri Cherukuri 1 Honors English 10Period Seven13 April 2015Mechanical Engineering and Its Purpose in SocietyMechanical engineering may seem like an abstract and unimportant concept to the average person, yet mechanical engineering has been around since the beginnings of humanity. Mechanical engineeringis everywhere and we see the results of it in our lives every day. Most objects that we encounter, such as a pencil or a doorknob, have gone through some form of mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering that uses the generation and application of heat and mechanical power to produce, fix, and design products. This benefits society and improves the lives numerous amounts of people all over the world. Mechanical engineering is useful to society through technology and inventions and without it society would be completely different. Using basic fundamental principles of mechanical movements to create technology and inventions is key to the process of mechanical engineering. Ever since prehistoric times, objects have been mechanically engineered to benefit mankind. This made life easier and more efficient as simple inventions went on to create more complex ones. These inventions use the 5 basic mechanical movements which are the lever, the wheel and axle, the pulley, the inclined plane and wedge, and the screw. Archimedes, a famous Greek engineer, created a screw that
  • 16. Analysis Of The Philosophical Views Of The Other Presented... Assignment: Final Paper the Other Nancy Barahona National University Philosophy 337 August 1, 2015 Professor Martin Gomez In looking at the philosophical views of the Other presented by Emmanuel Levinas we will consider whether we act strictly for the good of others without investing any self interest in what we do or do we do what we desire most at the end of the day; however, we will find many of our daily interactions including working, caring for another and just basic interactions are all done in self interest not in the interest of the Other. According to Rosenstand (2013) Levinas explains the Other as a term seen in philosophy about a person who is different from oneself; it is when one is facing something or someone that one is fundamentally unfamiliar with. (Rosenstand, 2013, p. 82) He goes onto explain that this stranger can be a person of a different sex or race or even someone who has different experiences than oneself. Levinas sees the bottom line of all human existence as the encounter with the Other. (Rosenstand, 2013, p. 513) When people meet people they will more often than not meet someone who is different from them. They will be a different color. A different sex. A different social class. It will be someone who has grown up in a different environment than them. And instinct will set in and one will try to change the Other; they will perceive that they are helping the Other but really they are helping themselves. One person will

Before children are born, they receive half of their traits from their mother and the other half from their father. That is why the child may have their father s nose and their mother s eye shape. Other traits could include eye color, hair color, hair texture, weight, and skin color. Different combinations of traits may cause offspring to appear different from their parents. • 19. Female Sexuality Desire in Chopin s The Storm Essays Female Sexuality Desire in Chopin s The Storm In Kate Chopin s time traditional patriarchal notions about women and sexuality deemed sexual passion a negligible, even improper, aspect of women s lives. Yet Chopin boldly addresses a woman s sexual desire in her short story The Storm . This story shockingly details a torrid extramarital sexual encounter between Calixta and Alcee` in the midst of a raging storm. While this story line could have been presented in a traditional light, perhaps as a lesson about the evils of uninhibited female sexuality, Chopin maintains a non judgmental stance by refraining from moralizing about the sanctity of marriage or impropriety of Calixta s actions. In failing to condemn and even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brief description of the brewing storm and the close, humid heat emanating from and surrounding Calixta establish an almost palpable sensuality early in the story. This conceit of the storm continues throughout much of the story with the storm s crescendo symbolizing a climax in Calixta and Alcee` s sexual encounter. At first, the obvious desire between the pair is sublimated into a nervous tension, and the effort to restrain their physical longing for the sake of social mores is paramount. Calixta exclaims, If this keeps up, Dieu sait if the levees goin to stan it, which is symbolically indicative of the growing force of their passion and the weakening of their resistance before that passion. A blinding bolt of lightening breaks the lovers nervous tension, much as it splits through the air and strikes the chinaberry tree. This violent crash precipitates Calixta and Alcee` s first embrace and kiss, and the affair that ensues vividly matches the progress of the raging storm. The storm reaches a crescendo, which Calixta views as a delightful counterpart to their passionate love making, for, they did not heed the crashing torrents, and the roar of the elements made her laugh as she lay in his arms (284). To make the parallel between the storm and Alcee and Calixta s affair particularly evident, Chopin consistently uses this conceit until the end of the encounter, for the thunder

Beginning in the 1990 s a research project was created with the intent of determining the sequence of nucleotide base pairs that made up human DNA. The Collaboration was key to completing this project, it was an international project that required, funding, certain technologies, and research methods. The Human Genome project provided important information that benefited medical science. This project helped scientist understand different genetic diseases that plagued mankind and opened the doors to many other scientific findings. Although the Human Genome Project was met with initial resistance it has proved to be significant in many aspects of science. The Human Genome project was widely anticipated, the possibility of understanding human disease, causes of disease, and human evolution was at the forefront of science. In 1985 a project was formally proposed with the goal of determining the complete nucleotide sequence of the human genome. Although the proposal had the possibility to change science it was met with much resistance. The main concern was privacy of genetic information, educating health care professionals, and ethical issues involving the design of genetic research. Finally, in 1990 under the direction of U.S. department of energy and the national institutes of health the Human Genome Project was officially initiated in
  • 21. The Most Vital Functions Of The Nervous System The most vital functions of the nervous system is to provide information about the occurrence or threat of injury. One of the ways this is done is in form of pain. However, sometimes, established pain can go beyond its protective role, thus becoming a disease in itself than just being a symptom. This condition is called chronic pain. The injury or the precipitating event can be physical (like in case of phantom limb pain or post surgical pain), infection (as with post herpetic neuralgia), systemic disease (like with diabetic neuropathy), drug (chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy) or can sometimes be unknown (trigeminal neuralgia, migraine, cluster headache, etc.) Even today, the pathological processes involved in genesis, establishment and continuation of such diseases are poorly understood. Eventually, such painful conditions usually remain refractory to available treatments. According to International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), globally, it has been estimated that 1 in 5 adults suffer from pain and that another 1 in 10 adults are diagnosed with chronic pain each year. Moreover, according to a recent (2014) article in the Journal of Pain, chronic pain is the most prevalent and disabling condition affecting at least 100 million Americans. It is also the most expensive public health condition with annual cost to society exceeding that of combined costs of diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. Then, we have set of diseases that follow chronic pain. This
  • 22. Evaluation Of Fungicides And Application Timing On Control... Introduction The blackleg fungus is a major disease of canola and can cause significant losses. An experiment to evaluate fungicides effect on blackleg was conducted by J.P. Damicone et. al. entitled Evaluation of fungicides and application timing on control of black leg of winter canola, 2015 at Oklahoma State University. This study involved evaluation of two fungicides, Proline and Approach, applied at different times throughout the growing season to gauge their efficacy controlling blackleg. Blackleg Black Leg of Canola Blackleg of canola is a disease that affects canola (Brassica napus) and other Brassica spp. with the causal agent being a fungus, Leptosphaeria maculans (anamorph= Phoma lingam). Canola is one of many cruciferous crops that is attacked by blackleg disease and losses from the disease have been documented for over a century with the disease occurring in every production area around the world (History occurrence impact, pg. 1). Symptoms for blackleg include lesions, necrosis, stem cankers, shriveled seeds, premature ripening, and lodging. When seedlings first emerge they can be killed in a manner similar to damping off, but if the seedlings develop past emergence, lesions can develop on both the cotyledons and leaves with a grayish appearance (History occurrence impact, pg. 1). As the crops get larger, stem lesions called cankers develop and can restrict water flow causing premature ripening and shriveled seeds (History occurrence impact, pg. 1). If

The life of spies is quite different then what people imagine. Even the founding fathers of the United States of America played such a drastic role in spying. Like John Jay considered the Father of Counter Intelligence . George Washington is known for creating the most successful operatives. Overall, the interesting parts in regard to spy is that of Sir Walsingham, the founding fathers, and that of Benedict Arnold, a traitor. Sir Walsingham began the major influence of spying for the later generations in England and Revolutionary America. He spied for Queen Elizabeth during her reign. His major attributes were to find out who tried to threaten Elizabeth s life. Many assassination attempts are set in action when she is queen. There are two main types of hypertension. Secondary hypertension is caused from an underlying disease in the adrenal or renal systems or by use of certain medications. It is resolved when the cause is treated or removed. Primary or essential hypertensionis the most common type with the cause being unclear although the incidence is higher with age and weight. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although both of these readings are important after the age of 60 the systolic reading is more significant due to the association with cardiovascular disease. Two to three blood pressure readings will be taken at separate appointments before a diagnosis of hypertension can be determined. Although the causes of essential hypertension are unclear a number of factors have been known to increase blood pressure. Changes either from genes, behavioral, or the environment which disrupt the normal functions of the body may cause a rise in blood pressure. Other factors that increase blood pressure are kidney fluid and salt balances, the renin angiotensin aldosterone system, sympathetic nervous system activity, and blood vessel structure and function (Bolivar, 2013). Since blood pressure homeostasis is accomplished by multifactorial mechanisms if there is a change in one of these mechanisms another attempts to correct this change in order to maintain a normal blood pressure. When this system fails and blood pressure can no longer be normalized by this method than essential hypertension results. The kidneys regulate the body s salt balance by retaining sodium and water while excreting potassium. Any imbalance in the kidneys function will expand blood volumes causing blood pressure to rise. The renin angiotension aldosterone

That is a quote from Abraham Lincoln and it is a forgotten concept in our culture today. Too many people today feel that they are entitled to something, and are asking, What is the country doing for me, instead of, What am I doing for my country? . We have a responsibility to our country to obey her laws, vote for her leaders, and do what is right, not according to the majority populous, but what has been commanded to me by my God. It s our responsibility to keep America s laws. What does this entail? As a Christian trying to answer this question, I first look to God and His Word. The Apostle Paul commands us in Romans 13:1, Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. This means that we are to submit to our government because God has ordained it. Submission has been tabooed in our culture. Culture teaches us from a young age that we are not to submit but do what our heart tells us. I can not tell you how dangerous this type of thinking is. Moisture, Temperature and the length of the drying process determine if light or dark malt (and with it the ingredients for lighter and darker beer styles) will be made and give malt its typical malt aroma. Finished Malt for the Brewery The finished brewing malt contains only 3 or 4% moisture and is now ready to be stored. It is cleaned and separated from the germinating malt, dusted and polished and then stored in silos that are well ventilated and protected from dust development. The germination sets biological changes within the kernel into action: Enzymes are activated or newly created. These developments are only interrupted by the kiln drying. During the mash (the mixing of the ground malt with water) the enzymes as desired become active again. The malt is now ready for the brewing process. Production methods will differ from brewery to brewery, as well as according to brewery equipment and beer types. Athenian Brewery S.A uses its own production methods; however the main processes will be similar. The description below applies to the production of a typical lager beer in a brewery with a lauter tun installed. Brewing Area The first stage in the brewing process is the preparation of the wort. After the malt is crushed to grist of suitable fineness, and preliminary treatment of the adjuncts takes place to facilitate extraction, the malt and adjuncts are mixed with brewing water to form a mash.

Premarital cohabitation has become the majority experience in the United States (Tach Halpern Meekin, 2009; Teachman, 2003). However, this is not the only thing that he dismisses throughout the text. Augustine also rejects other culturally significant texts and the work of both himself and others in his life. While he does admit there are positive lessons to learn from each of these pursuits, Augustine argues the only texts or professions that matter are those that bring an individual closer to God, specifically by mentioning Him and His teachings. Throughout Confessions, Augustine, in retrospect, rejects many of the texts he came across in his life. He first exhibits this when he describes how wrong it was to have reacted emotionally to the Aeneid. He wept over Dido, who died pursuing her ultimate end with a sword (Conf. 1.21), while at the same time he failed to realize he was dying by [his] alienation from [God] (Conf. 1.20). Here Augustine laments the fact he wept over Dido s death while at the same time worsened his own condition by ignoring God and his own sinfulness. He is highly critical of himself in the way he approached the Aeneid as a child, describing himself as having abandoned [God] to pursue the lowest things of [God s] creation (Conf. 1.21). Because the Aeneid leads Augustine further away from God it cannot have any significance in one s life. The Aeneid is not the only text Augustine disregards in

The searching and purchasing of goods affects the psychological make up a person. Consumerism is forced by society through constant advertising on TV, in tabloids, and on the radio; it is a force that causes people to feel the need to follow the voice of society. In Don Dellilo s White Noise , the main character Jack Gladney, tries to discover his identity through consumerism. Jack along with other characters searches for himself while hiding from the extreme fear of death and avoiding reality. Death is unknown and is seen as scary while consumerism provides a certain comfort and sense of identity. Jack escapes white noise and fear through consumerism s affect on his mental state. ... The next morning Jack takes a trip to the grocery store to buy food and surround himself with familiar products. Jacks behavior of consuming after feeling a loss of identity is a known act in society today. According to Todd, the empty, unhappy consumers have no choice but to consume more products with the hopes of finding fulfillment (48). Jack spends time at the supermarket multiple times in a week searching for items and for his sense of self. It is known that buyers have the intention of finding products that have specific meanings towards their identity. Consumption of goods such as food with brand named colored labels gives Jack s life a sense of purpose and makes him feel as though he is doing what is right in

Why some see the necessity of owning a gun for reasoning from hunting game to house security, I personally do not have a true reason to own one. Owning a gun has much more responsibility than I care to have by spending a fair amount of money and time for an item that has little to no use for me and would not make me safe. The legality of owning a gunfar exceeds the mental health of the owner, few things non gun owners know and what all gun owners should know. A lot of gun owners will say that non gun owners have little say as to why one should not own guns, well I can say that gun owning and sales can go far greater than a few old white men at Cabela s talking about the how the AR can have a swapped .223 barrel to a .556 barrel and how the overload of attachments can put on the gun with rails. When writing this originally I thought to research a tad to fully understand guns and the legality of them, until I came across how some states require one to have the firearm locked up in one s house in case little kids go wondering around the house and happen to stumbles across a firearm and accidently fires it because the horrid gun owner did not just leave the gun out but also had a clip ready. As I continued my research on locking up guns, I saw some states and insurance companies require one to own a certified gun safe in order to own x amount of guns. This struck me, personally I m a big safe owner. I have

PhD in Nanostructures for Enhanced Solar Conversion Research Proposal Abstract The possibilities of employing a nanoscale metal topography that will employ surface plasmon excitation phenomena towards improving the light absorption efficiency of organic solar cells will be investigated. This goal is achievable by analytically designing and producing optically active nanostructures which are used to excite surface plasmons at the wavelengths range dictated by the sun in order to support the confinement of light beyond the diffraction limit, thus leading to high weighted enhancements over a wider range of the solar spectrum. This can be achieved by employing nanostructured materials with unique properties tailored for the materials characteristics of II VI nanorod systems across the solar spectrum capable of creating significant enhancements while preventing unwanted thermal losses. Also external quantum efficiency measurements on the nanostructured cells will be made, this is expected to demonstrate a substantial photon absorption enhancement across the solar spectrum. Finally, key insights into light absorption and trapping mechanisms in these plasmon enhanced cells through a combination of three dimensional finite difference time domain simulations, optical absorption, and external quantum efficiency measurements will be obtained Introduction The increasing population of the world is making demands on the availability of energy supply and research has

In Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, Salinger narrates the story through the first person by the main characterHolden Caulfield. This paper aims to address such questions through identifying the three main threats to South Korean interests, proposing solutions to protect those interests, and evaluating the effect of those solutions on the other identified interests and threats. The state s main interests lie within bolstering its education system, reforming the economy, and establishing greater military capabilities. Each interest has its own corresponding threat: widespread decline in personal health from performing under the current educational system paired with associated social stress, competing with economic powerhouses in the region, and increased regional aggression. For contextual purposes, this paper will be organized into five main sections. The first section will present relevant historical context for South Korea. The following section will cover the interest/threat pairs, with subsections for each pair. The third section will more closely examine national security as the interest of greatest importance and propose a solution to address the regional threat to South Korea s stability. The fourth section will evaluate the effects of the proposed solution on the other interests to suggest protocol to prevent negative effects, followed by a section for final conclusions. Historical Background South Korea, formally known as the Republic of Korea or ROK, has become a competitive global

The first kind of humour we come across is the skirmishes of wit between Beatrice and Benedick. Beatrice and Benedick are both sarcastic people and incidentally are sarcastic about each other. Sarcasm is a very good kind of humour, which is still effective to this day. Many people understand sarcasm and it s a good way of putting a point across. Digital film evolved from Film or celluloid film as it is originally more recognized. I have a few questions that I wish to cover early on and continue to develop as time goes on. What is digital Cinema and what are the advantages and or disadvantages of it over film. What is film celluloid and where did it originate from ? Why did digital film start ? finally what is next for digital film is there more to come or will it transition to something else ?. Firstly celluloid film is a thin sheet of celluloid, created from nitrocellulose and camphor. Celluloid can be traced back to as far as 1856 to an English man called Alexander Parkes. Parkes has been found to be the first person who was granted the first patent which described a plastic material which he called Parkesine . (1) However it wasn t actually Parkes that patented celluloid. John Wesley Hyatt an inventor and his brother Isaiah who actually patented their material as celluloid. So celluloid originated from New Jersey in the United States. Celluloid was actually created to become a replacement for the use of ivory in many products. However is made its way into film industry later on. This was primarily down to the work of John H. Stevens. John H. Stevens was a chemist at the Celluloid Manufacturing Company . (1) He discovered that a material know as amyl acetate was a solvent for diluting celluloid (1) This discovery

A scientific theory is an explanation of an aspect of the world, based on facts that have been frequently confirmed through observation and experiment or is often just speculations. Is evolution just a theory? Evolution is considered a valid scientific theory as it cannot be expressed in a concise mathematical equation so it is referred to as a theory, which does not make it more accurate than a law. Natural selection, comparative embryology, comparative anatomy, DNA and scientific contributions all support the theory of evolution. Natural selection Natural selection is a process in nature by which organisms are better adapted to their environment tend survive and reproduce more likely than those who are not fit for their environment. In humans, it is obvious that embryos begin to develop what would have formed into gills that our ancestors had. Embryos also develop a tail, which by the time they are born it is gone which shows that ancestors were born with tails but we have evolved to no longer be born with a tail. Comparative embryology also shows that many different life forms experience similar stages of development, which points to common origins. Comparative anatomy is the study of similarities and differences in the anatomy of different species. It is closely related to evolutionary biology and phylogeny (evolution of species). Comparative anatomy has served evidence for evolution, which indicates various organisms share a common ancestor. Comparative anatomy is the first line of reasoning in determining the connection of

He desires to be free from it all, but then he says that he is afraid that the fates might misunderstand and take him away to never return. This is like most of us today.
